The document describes the development of two microsatellite multiplex systems for the black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and their application in studying genetic diversity in two populations. Ninety publicly available microsatellite markers were assessed, with 19 chosen for initial testing, of which 6 were found to be suitable. Additionally, new microsatellite markers were isolated through a two-step enrichment library process. The suitable markers were combined into two multiplex systems and applied to samples from Australian and Thai shrimp populations to analyze genetic diversity.

We then discuss the methods of manufacture of microarrays and the most common biological applications. The chapter ends with a brief discussion of the limitations of microarrays and discusses how microarrays are being rapidly replaced by DNA sequencing technologies.
