Essay On Healthy Lifestyle
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Diamonique Oseana (MYP5)
Part A
Explanation of the term Healthy Lifestyle:
A healthy lifestyle is part of someone s life to keep their health pristine. This involves a healthy
diet, consisting the accurate amounts of different food types, exercise, on a daily basis, and a
good amount of sleep every day. All together makes the body less stressed, and reduces the risks of
getting any fatal sicknesses. Finally, to make sure this stays, is to keep away from unhealthy habits,
such as smoking, junk food, and alcohol.
Find 2 diseases that could come from an unhealthy lifestyle:
Diseases can occur due to a person s unhealthy lifestyle, for example, a person can be diagnosed

Pocahontas Historical Accuracy
The so called historical based films are evidentially lacking historical accuracy. In fact, it is one of
the most important elements and aspect of an exceptional film. Unfortunately, these types of
enterprises ultimately resulted from the concept of money, finance, and of course profit. Therefore,
modern historic films are focusing on entertainment, and excluded many significant historical
accuracy from the films, such as Disney s animated feature filmPocahontas. The content of this

The film primarily emphasize the love between Pocahontas and John Smith ; however, after the
critical analysis of both primary and secondary source document, many errors were displayed
throughout the movie. One of the major error was in fact: the relationship between Pocahontas
and John Smith. Pocahontas was a young girl of age 10 or 11 when she first became acquainted
with the colonists who settled in the Chesapeake Bay area in 1607, stated by a secondary source
document (Price, 1). At that time, Captain John Smith was at his late 20s; therefore, displays a
huge gap between the two, in terms of age. As a result, it was not practical for them to be in an
intense love, with romance scenes as portrayed by the movie (Gabriel, Pocahontas . Besides,

Death Cab For Cutie Analysis
The alternative rock musical artist that grew up in Seattle has become the forefront of the Indie
Rock scene. This coffeehouse band has evolved and altered their sound after nearly two decades.
Another name they go by is Death Cab for Cutie. DCFC have found a way within their eight
studio album discography to never lose their personal or emotional voice. With six Extended
Plays, over twenty singles and several other appearances, DCFC is an unstoppable force that
preach the ups and downs of life. Listeners feel more in tune with their soul when they venture
inside the minds of Ben Gibbard (Lead Vocalist and Guitarist), Nick Harmer (Bass), and Jason
McGerr (Drummer). They recently lost Lead Guitarist Chris Walla and had two former drummers,

DCFC s most ambitious score is Number Two s, The New Year. This track begins on a high note
and never lets up. The sounds coming from each instrument are as bombastic as fireworks going
off. The epic ensembles that follow Gibbard s calling, so this is the New Year, seem to have
come from the skies of Mount Olympus. The drumming is loud, the bass is like a gong, and the
guitar contrasts as a wind current flowing in reverse. This song departs from the band s normal
flat surface vibes. The lyrics are cheap, but highlight a fun New Year s Eve moment while
describing the anxiety of New Year s resolutions. The New Year, is like a rock opera. Gibbard,
Walla, Harmer, and McGerr must have been listening to Queen before recording this song. This is
possibly one of the greatest openings to any indie rock album. Give DFCF a round of

1. The North had some farming and was full artisans, where mostly free men lived. With the
Protestant work ethnic encouraged hard work and individual economic enterprise. The English
countries of the North were altered in structure from the individualism supported there. Land in the
South was available for the farms and plantations there, many men in the South would own one
with at least 50 acres. But the demand for land from the growing amount of African slaves coming
to America rose quickly, and the need to expand past the Appalachian Mountians began to look

the wealthy didn t dominate others in lower classes, a rough economic equality would be
established, and there would be social equality for all. But in reality the idea didn t happen, the
wealth became unevenly distributed and the middle class nearly vanished, leaving the extrememly
rich and the extremely poor. The richer were able to buy more slaves and purchase more land,
participate in trade. But the poor began to have a hard time afford needed things, like firewood and

System Security Monitoring

Henry Rivera Jr.
Every organization has risks and it is extremely critical for them to identify what these risks are and
to mitigate and avoid further damages in case of disastrous events. These disastrous events can be
prevented by designing and implementing a robust security monitoring system and utilizing
industry proven practices and activities. Information Security refers to safety of information in terms
of confidentiality, integrity, availability, and non repudiation (Byrnes amp; Proctor, 2002). This
document will provide a clear definition about the security monitoring activities that should be
designed and conducted in an organization that has both internal and ... Show more content on

The state monitoring can cover the analysis of security policies, access controls put in place,
password requirements, network security controls, permissions, viruses, and inappropriate files
such as unnecessary image, music, videos, and other multimedia files. The system must also be
able to examine any workstation s current installed applications and determine whether or not
updated versions exist. Any unnecessary or redundant data from the logs must be extracted out as
well.
Security monitoring does not just stop at the monitoring level. The security system must be able to
protect the data collected from the security monitoring system itself. Any vulnerabilities and holes
will leave the security monitoring system ineffective and render it useless, especially in cases of
modification and tampering. Tampered data will never result to meaningful conclusions. Activity
data must be confidential and regarded as sensitive. The system must be able to compare negative
and positive data and figure out which priority levels are given to each data and event. Another
important aspect is that the security monitoring systems and activities do not hinder or get in the
way of the business operations (Fry, amp; Nystrom, 2009).
In an event of intrusion or security disaster, a security audit must be put into action immediately to
avoid further damages. The first thing to conduct is to confirm that a security breach or

Freedom Under Hospitable Captivity Essay
The Matrix (Andy and Lana Wachowski, 1999) appeals to a Western ideology of freedom in its
most general sense by depicting a fight against the enslavement of the human race in a post
apocalyptic world controlled by machines. The machines use the humans, whose minds are trapped
in a computer program, as an energy source. In this world of machines, the Wachowskis expand
upon the totalitarianism seen in other works of fiction, such as 1984 by George Orwell. The
totalitarian state of 1984, Airstrip One, becomes the whole planet in The Matrix, and the oppressed
citizens become nearly the entire human race. Only a group of rebels escape from the machines by
creating a city below the surface of the earth. The main character, Neo (Keanu... Show more content

answer to What is the Matrix? is looking for him. After an encounter with Agent Smith (Hugo
Weaving), Morpheus gives Neo the call to action with a phone call that sends Neo to the Adam s
Street Bridge to meet Trinity and later be freed from the Matrix, entering the belly of the whale.
Morpheus becomes the supernatural mentor during Neo s training the road of trials aboard the
Nebuchadnezzar, the rebel ship. After the agents capture Morpheus in the second call to action, Neo
proves that he is the One by saving Morpheus and dealing with the agents, the ultimate boon. In the
process, he stops bullets in mid air by opening his mind using a supernatural force and makes Agent
Smith explode in a guilt free act of violence. A unique feature of the film is that Neo is not
presented with a situation in which to resist temptation. It is unusual that this classic aspect of the
Monomyth is left out. Frodo has the ring, Buddha has three women, Christ has the three
temptations of the Devil, etcetera.2 Thus, the film follows much of the Monomyth but still
manages to be unique.
Freedom has different definitions and histories in various parts of the world. The most important
definition of freedom in the context of The Matrix is that of the Western World. The desire for
freedom is not inherent to

The Dysfunction Of The Walls Family
Could the dysfunction of the Walls family have fostered the extraordinary resilience and strength
of the three older siblings through a collaborative set of rites of passage? One could argue that the
unusual and destructive behavior of the parents forced the children into a unique collection of rites
of passage that resulted in surprisingly resilient and successful adults. In moving back to Welch,
Virginia, the children lost what minimal sense of security they may have enjoyed while living in
their grandmother s home in Arizona. The culture and climate (both socially and environmentally)
along with an increased awareness of their poverty resulted in a significant loss of identity. As they

importantly created the understanding that their family had hit a new low in their lives. In a sense,
they began to self isolate to prevent further embarrassment. With the arrival of the family in
Welch, the sense of disconnection was furthered by the blending of family politics. The Walls
family, dependent upon the charity of Rex s parents for food and shelter now had to contend
with racism and sexual abuse. The children who had been encouraged to speak freely about their
opinions now had to keep quiet. Jeanette had visited a different neighborhood which her uncle
had referred to as Niggerville, and this blatantly racist attitude was a shock (Walls 143). The
grandmother accosted Jeanette that day, commenting keep this up and people are going to think
you are a nigger lover not only was the word offensive to Jeanette, she told her grandmother You

appreciated; as a result, she was banished to the basement by her grandmother without food. There

wind speed of 4.6 metres per second. The vegetation was very dense with about 80% heather, 10%
tussock grass, 8% bare ground, 1% light green moss and 1% dark moss. This helped me to
understand the effect that heather had on the other vegetation in this area. Scotch Heather was

Look Into Data Mining
Who is Watching, Learning, or Knows Your life?
A Look into Data Mining Today with the ever growing use of computers in the world, information
is constantly moving from one place to another. What is this information, who is it about, and who
is using it will be discussed in the following paper. The collecting, interpreting, and determination
of use of this information has come to be known as data mining. This term known as data mining
has been around only for a short time but the actual collection of data has been happening for
centuries. The following paragraph will give a brief description of this history of data collection.
Data patterns have always been around and in the 1700s a mathematician named Thomas Bayes

By using the same data the retailers use, plus a little more, the government can use its power to
help boost the economy. The government can do this by studying the data and, if it sees fit, it
can regulate how much or how little a retailer can sell in an area. The government could also
offer incentives to a company to open a store in an area that is in need of the products that
company sells. So by using the same mined data the government can help to monitor and make
improvements in how we live. This author does not mean to lead the reader into thinking this is
the only type of data mining that is happening every day, this is just one of the most widely

The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh
Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence
throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop
culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative,
Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound
friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him,
and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand,
Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both
maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV
show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossomgrieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two
were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was
unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and
compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a
meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result.
The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom
and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. Gilgamesh and Enkidu s bond first

The Keystone Xl ( Kxl ) Pipeline
In the October of 2015, oil prices have dropped to their lowest since 2008 and Canada has lost
over 35,000 jobs, and the value of the loonie has dropped to a mere 77 cents compared to the U.S.
Dollar. As Canada desperately clings onto the failing economy, it turns its attention to The
Keystone Pipelines. The Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline was an idea proposed in 2008 by the
TransCanada energy company, to deliver 830,000 barrels of oil each day beginning in Hardisty,
Alberta, and extending south to Steele City, Nebraska. TransCanada claims to bring more jobs,
energy security, and benefit to the Canadian and American economy. Yet, President Obama denied
the proposal in 2015. Although it was a huge disappointment to Canada, the decision to deny

Analysis Of The Movie The Night By F. Scott Fitzgerald...
Dilsey Gibson, a black woman, serves as a mother figure for the children and a caretaker for the
rest of the family. Dilsey feels as though she really is a part of the family. However, Mrs.
Compson and a grown up Jason disagree and feel that she is easily replaceable. It goes against
community and identity in the South to have a black woman step out of place, and Jason feels
that she does step out of place quite often. Dilsey is shown as a stabilizer when she defends Miss
Quentin. Faulkner writes, [Mrs. Compson] come on and lay down now, she said. I find her in ten
minutes. Mrs. Compson shook her off. Find the note, she said. Quentin left a note when he did it
(283). This is showing that Dilsey can figure Mrs. Compson out and wants to protect her. She
believes that Miss Quentin will come back and wants to help spare Mrs. Compson some heartache.
Even though Mrs. Compson treats her poorly, she still looks out for her. I believe that at this time
in the South, black peopleknew white peoplebetter than white people knew black people. White
people could not see past the prejudice. Dilsey also stabilizes the house when she looks after
Miss Quentin. For example, Dilsey says to Jason, Well, you tend to yo business and let her

when it comes to carrying for the children. She knows that she is one of the few people that can

Scarlet Letter Compare And Contrast Essay
Just because books are different does not mean that they cannot entertain the same audience.
The Scarlet Letter is a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne that takes place in the 1700s.
Warrior Cats is a series of novels written by a group of people who call themselves Erin Hunter. I
used to read Warrior Cats when I was younger, but I have a more advanced reading level now.
These books have a lot more differences than similarities. I like both of these books; however,
one was an assignment and the other was just a hobby. These books are different because of plot,
plot size, and content. They are similar because a big part of their content is based off of religion.
These books are completely opposite in terms of book plots. To start off, Warrior Cats is written in
the minds of various cats; The Scarlet Letter follows humans. Warrior Cats is all about cats living in
four different clans: Thunderclan, Riverclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan. All of the books pertain

The Scarlet Letter s source of religion is obvious. Hester Prynne commits a sin and she is

the cats. Their ancestors talk to them and give them prophecies on how to protect their clans.
Cats either believe or do not believe in Starclan. The cats who are not from clans, like house cats,
are usually the ones that do not believe in Starclan. Many of their customs are based off of
Starclan. Some examples are when the clan leaders receive their nine lives from Starclan and when
medicine cats communicate with Starclan and try to interpret their prophecies. These books have

(Absolute advantage, 1776) which was then expanded on by David Ricardo with his theory of the
Ricardian Model (Comparative advantage, 1817). Also including the Heckscher Ohlin model
(relative factor abundance, 1919, 1933) and the ideas of New Trade Theory (Economies of Scale
and Imperfect Competition). These ideas will be evaluated and synthesised to see if these
explanations truly explain the reasons of trade theory.
Absolute advantage was an idea suggest by Adam Smith in 1817. The theory behind absolute
advantage suggests that if a country is highly skilled and efficient in producing a certain good
with the fewer resources, then it is believed that a specific country has an absolute advantage in
the production of that good (Sloman Garratt, 2013). However Absolute advantage can only occur
if the country using its resources for a specific good/service does so efficiently otherwise no gains
are made from trading. Although it can be argued that the idea of Absolute advantage does not
particularly make much sense in explaining trade patterns. As said in Feenstra s and Taylors book,
Absolute advantage does not particularly help to explain the case of why the US imports
snowboards from places like China

The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags
Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in
America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by
the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught
on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry
than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong
incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words,
plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this
convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production,
distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the
convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their
existence.
Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic
made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year
as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene
). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental
consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the
journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two
main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based
transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse
environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity.
To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ).
Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the
form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing
process of Novolex, a maker of plastic packaging products that sells bags under the brand name
Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is described

Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Orwell s Animal farm is an allegory for the Russian revolution specifically and for a variety of
themes, related to power, oppression and politics more generally. Analyse how the narrative of
Animal farm allegorically depicts George Orwell s views on at least three different themes. This
essay will unpack key themes power; violence and tyranny, a great power imbalance shown
throughout the novel, oppression; How Napoleon used manipulation to get the results he wanted,

Statement Of Purpose For Landscape Architecture
Three years ago, if someone asks me if I want to be a Landscape Architect, I would say No, I don

answer is I don t know what else I can be, other than a Landscape Architect. In my last year of

achieve in my life in Landscape Architecture. I realized I have goals which can be achieved and

This shows how important it is, to let the public knows that their actions actually matters to the
world. Especially during my study abroad program, where I travelled to a number of European
countries, it is obvious to me that the Northern Europe is way more aware of this situation and
their way of living is comparably more conscious of their actions than the current situation in the
United States is. Comparably, if the United States can have the same state of mind as these Green
countries, the ripple effect will be way stronger than those countries as well. This gives me a strong
motion to educate my future clients about the impacts they can make and how they can actually do
the world a better good.
The process of writing this paper helped me define my future goals and objectives. Before I

The World s Economy And Lowering Its Credit Rating
Winston Churchill called for the concept of a kind of United States of Europe , and with an ever

Britain s sovereignty has led to the questioning of the so called European super state . Britain

Newton s Laws of Motion
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same
speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force (Newton s First Law).
To determine if a person should run or walk, you will have to understand the Second Law of
Motion. The second law states that force equals mass times acceleration. In order for a person
of a certain mass to accelerate, that person must use some force, so the force must overcome
gravity, friction, and be larger than the mass of the person trying to move (Newton s Second Law
of Motion). If you want to walk or run you will need a bigger force (В¶ 4). To walk is not as hard
as running, so less force is needed to succeed in doing it (Forester). This leads us to the third law
of motion, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton s Third Law).
Another concept of Physics is moving water. For example, flushing the toilet, waterfalls
and dams. Flushing a toilet is a great example of transferring energy. Usually on most toilets
there is tan on the back of it filled with water. Water that is stored is a great example of potential
energy and no kinetic energy. Once toilet is flushed, it gives the water momentum. From
waterfalls and dams we can produce hydropower. It is a renewable energy source that converts
kinetic energy from falling water into electricity. From the water momentum pushes against the

Masquerading Colonial Innocence in Rudyard Kipling s Kim
Kim: Masquerading Colonial Innocence Introduction Rudyard Kipling was one of the most
famous writers of his time, and his popular novel Kim, had first become published in 1901, has

with a potentially company killing problem. They were losing market share quickly to their
competitors. Pepsi was stealing a portion of the younger generation with their advertising
campaign, and they proved that consumers liked Pepsi better with the Pepsi Challenge. To combat
their falling market share Coke decided to introduce a new formula. This formula was based on the
fact that people preferred the sweeter taste of Pepsi. Once the new formula was finished, Coke

Another reason Coke was worried was that when given the choice in supermarkets consumers
were choosing Pepsi. These factors were all considered in the decision to dramatically change
Coke s formula, which had been around for 99 years. The Research After Pepsi began
conducting taste tests, which were showing more and more people were beginning to like
Pepsi, Coke decided that it was time for them to also conduct some market research and see if
there was anything they could change in their formula. The marketing vice president along with
the president of Coke decided to send a team of marketers out on Project Kansas and conduct a
nation wide taste test. With the help of two Atlanta based market research firms, MARC and
Kenneth Hollander Associates, Coke tested their new product in over 30 cities (Fierman, 1985).
The results were overwhelmingly in favor of new Coke, 55% chose the new Coke over the old

Marketing Strategy Concepts, Methodology, And Theory
In this part, related literatures about marketing strategy concepts, methodology, and theory, are
reviewed. These concepts, theory and methodology are the foundations of research design of this
work.
2.1Marketing strategy
The material world is objective while the people s psychologies are very subjective. The same
concepts from different people may mean different implications. The concepts of strategy tend to be
used in many scenarios and embody different meanings. The marketing strategy also has its specific
connotation and extensions. And there are some difference among the academic and practitioner
for this concepts. So, the marketing strategy concept needed clarification.
Grant (2011) defined the strategy as the means by which individuals and organizations to achieve
their goals. From our understanding, the means to achieve goals is the methodology to achieve
their goals. So, the critical part of marketing strategy is the policy and guideline of marketing which
based on the analysis of internal resource and external environments and competitor.
However, many other definitions of strategy are about the goals selection, Recourse allocation,
action procedure, and plans. Such as below definition:
The determination of the long run goals and objectives of an enterprise, and the adoption of
courses of action and the allocation of resources necessary for carrying out these goals Alfred

This same thing happened in the 1960 s with African Americans, when Maya Angelou wrote the
poem Caged Bird . African Americans were seen as property rather than people and they were
being treated as such. However no one considered the fact that we are all birds, yet one is locked
up. We are all birds, yet one has that capability of naming the sky his own (Angelou). We are all
birds, yet one has everything tied up. Though, the one difference that the caged bird has from
the free bird, is the power of its voice. The most valuable thing that one can sacrifice is his voice
(Smith). When people are being beat up because of their sexuality and people don t stop to do
anything, that is weakness (Smith). When people are asking for money, because they are going
through a hard time in their lives, yet no one stops to help, that is greed (Smith). When someone
doesn t have control over the way people will view them and get treated differently than others,
that is oppression. Oppression is still present in this day and age, but isn t seen in the severity that
it was in the past. Undoubtedly, there is still oppression present to this day, but people just don t
take it into consideration. Anyhow, just because society puts this label on people whether it be a

Film Analysis Of Mothlight, By Stan Brakhage
Mothlight, by Stan Brakhage, is also a film heavily focused on the visuals. Released in 1963,
Mothlight s running time of four minutes consists of nothing but what look like pictures of
winged insects and foliage. Further investigation reveals that Brakhage created the film without a
camera, and instead used two strips of splicing tape to press the object enough to emit light
through it (Braunstein 285). No viewer of Mothlight will stop to wonder about a conceivable plot
the film could be trying to convey. The film itself does not express that there is a plot to be
perceived. Instead, audiences view the visuals and think only about the visuals because it is the
only thing being presented. Once the connection to the title of the film is made, the next natural
question to ask is How? The question is no longer directed at the screen in which the film is being
projected. Instead, the question becomes about the physical objects being presented. Brakhage was
able to use film to show or emphasize a part of nature one might not have taken a second to observe.
By directing attention to film as a physical object, Brakhage used Mothlight to enlighten audiences
with a unique technique to showcase the visuals of film. A Movie and Mothlight are both
subverting preconceptions of mainstream cinema at the time, but they both do so by calling the
audience s attention to the film medium. A Movie puts effort into directly reminding audiences that
it is a film while Mothlight gets

The Moral Responsibilities Within A Corporation
Corporations can be large or small but they all have some sort of ethical impact on their employees,
shareholders, customers, community, and surrounding environments. Richard DeGeorge writes, We
can speak of corporations having moral responsibilities to act in certain ways, and they are morally
responsible for the consequences of their actions on people. (p. 200). Large corporations are
comprised of the board of directors, management, and their workers. They also deal with suppliers,
customers, and have competitors. This essay will examine the moral responsibilities within a
corporation.
In large corporations the success or failure of the company is the responsibility of the board of
directors. According to Richard DeGeorge, The members of the board are responsible to the
shareholders for the selection of honest, effective managers, and especially for the selection for
the CEO and of the president of the corporation. (p. 202). The board members have a moral
responsibility to ensure the corporation is run honestly, in respect to its major policies, and to
ensure the interests of the shareholders are satisfied. The next responsibility within a corporation is
the responsibility management has to its board of directors. DeGeorge writes, It must inform the
board of its actions, the decisions it makes or the decisions to be made, the financial condition of
the firm, its successes and failures, and the like. (p. 202). The management of the corporation is

Causing The 2008 Crisis
Causing the 2008 Crisis As the financial system moved forward after the S L Crisis, what later
became known as the parallel banking system began to bloom. In this system, commercial banks
began to act like large investment banks and quickly the financial system as a whole became much
larger, more complex and much more active in securitization. Some industry analysts say that it
was advances in data processing and telecommunication that created economies of scale and scope
in finance, and fostered the need for larger and more diversified financial institutions. As these
banks became larger and much more powerful, they pressured regulators to strip away all barriers
to competition and growth. This began to take hold with the Riegle Neal Interstate Banking and
Branching Efficiency Act in 1994 (RNIBBEA). This allowed bankholding companies to practice
nationwide branching and acquire companies in other states. This led to mass consolidation that
resulted in the top ten commercial and investment banks owning a combined 10.8 trillion dollars by
2007, and a 25% increase in all industry assets. The argument behind this mass deregulation was
that the larger then ever institutions would have strong incentive to protect shareholders and would
carefully regulate themselves. The push to deregulate strengthened when the largest institutions
began to openly attack the Glass Steagall Act that separated commercial and investment banks, by
using recent deregulation to gather beachheads

A Career As A Career In The Music Industry
The process to become a professional singer would have to start when you re young, because it
takes time to actually learn music and to build your voice. Most cited researches I have looked up
reported that many professional singers today usually have begin their training of practicing who
they are at a young age. Singingopportunities can come from anywhere, such as being in a play at
school. It s important for singers to develop a variety of styles. It s good to know more than one
type of musicnow and days for a better position in the music industry. For instance both popular
and classical styles should be considered because employment opportunities exist in each. To get
better results for your outcome most people would consider enrolling in a formal training
program. Once you ve reached your unique voice, continue the process and look for
professional singing opportunities. To get taken seriously you should build up your
professional representation and perform as much as possible. Musicians typically advance in
their careers by seeking an audience for their craft. While performance opportunities may be
offered all over the country, it s noted that many musicians relocate to hub cities for the
entertainment industry like New York, Los Angeles, Nashville or Chicago. These states are
typically where you would find a famous singer or musicians that you can reflect on and learn
from in your experience of making your career a success. For me after this step would be to go

performing opportunities. In addition to choral ensembles and formal recitals and shows,
performing in placing that will allow you to sing or local singing opportunities may be

Analysis Of The Book Fibonacci Rabbits
Leonardo Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who lived from 1170 to 1240. While Fibonacci
was growing up, he was sent to study mathematics with an Arab master. Once he finished studying,
he began to travel to other countries to study their mathematics and calculations (Encyclopedia
Britannica). In 1202, Fibonacci published his book that was entitled Liber Abaci or Book of the
Counting. In this book, he used Hindu Arabic numbers. This is the number system that we are
using today. Prior to his writing, many people did not know or use this system of numbers. In the
beginning, Fibonacci talked about how this system worked, basically how to use, write, and

One area of mathematics that overlaps with the Fibonacci Sequence is the Golden Ratio which is

during his lifetime, became the first to define this ratio. He defined it as extreme and mean ratio
(Wikipedia). Credit is generally given to Phidias hence the symbol phi is used when denoting the
ratio (UIUC). The Golden Ratio is similar to the ratio between each consecutive Fibonacci number.
Fibonacci numbers also overlap with Pascal s Triangle, which is found on the right. The triangle is

which resulted in blessings that they could never have asked for, but some evil and disobedient
which resulted in curses that they would not be able to avoid. In this paper, I will look at three
kings in depth, and analyze how each either received blessings or curses based on their
willingness to obey God. The first king that I will analyze will be king Ahab who ruled for a total
of twenty two years.
King Ahab ruled and he married Jezebel, a princess from Zidon which was a place where
paganism was flourishing. Even though Ahab was happy, marrying a foreigner was forbidden in
the eyes of the Lord, especially Jezebel because of her devotion to other ... Show more content on

Just like Hezekiah Joash also destroyed all forging idols and alters. Joash did what was right in
the eyes if the Lord every year that Jehoiadad was alive. (2 Chronicles 24:17 19). Joash was
determined to repair the Lord s temples (2 Chronicles 24:4) He displayed this action by telling
the chief priests to go and collect the annual quota of silver to repair the temple. (Chronicles
24:5) One ways however he disobeyed the Lord was by not striking the ground 6 times instead
of three, by doing this it symbolized how many victories he would have. Instead of striking the
ground 6 times he only struck it 3 times which showed lack of faith in his side. Joash
consequence for not fully trusting in the Lord was only defeating the Arameans three times.
Joash leadership however was great he listened to God and his commands. This was because
God blessed his rule because he promised to protect the temple, and he did every year that his
prophet Jehoiadad was alive. Once Jehoiadad died he turned to evil and fully turned away from
the Lord. As the Lord got word of Joash evil ways he tries to warn him but Joash did not listen

Before Night Falls Analysis
Before Night Falls tells the story of Reinaldo Arenas, a Cuban writer who suffered for many
years and dealt with tragic circumstances all throughout his life. Living during Fidel Castro s
harsh regime as a homosexual male led to several years of torture, for he was imprisoned, but
ultimately set free. Additionally, his writing was bold and went against everything that Castro
represented, and he took extreme risks to get his work published in other countries. The world
heard the prolific voice of Arenas, while the Cuban government, his fellow writers, and even his
lovers tried to silence him. Arenas was an extremely important figure in Latin culture. This is not
simply because his work was profound; his life gives us a deeper look at the difficulties of
struggling with homosexuality, masculinity, and finding freedom. He embodies resilience,
charisma, determination, and at the same time fragility, weakness and pain. Arenas is not defined
by the typical Spanish embodiment of masculinity. His homosexuality is what truly defines his
character, his shortcomings, his relationships and his writing. From the beginning of the film, it
is clear that he has no interest in women, as we see him as a young man with a female prostitute
in a club, completely void of emotion. Later, we see him meet Pepe who offers him a ride and
fondles his leg which Reinaldo initially brushes off. However, Pepe is the one who provides
Reinaldo with a typewriter, which acted as a catalyst for their

The main purpose of these experiments was introduce various techniques such as the use of
separation, purification and extraction for each organic compound that was obtained. The first
experiment was done on a compound which is commonly known as a triglyceride which contains
three fatty acids and a glycerol backbone. The next experiment was done one a caffeine which is
a hetercylic ring. However, this heterocyclic ring has all oxygens in the place of the carbons. The
third eextraction was done on benzoic acid and acentanilide and the last experiment was done on
acetic acid to purify an ester.
The first of these many experiments was the extraction of trimyristin from nutmeg. Trimyristin
makes up about one fourth of the composition of nutmeg. Compounds such as nutmeg can be used
in a process called natural product extraction which identifies if the natural products obtained from
such and extraction can be used to treat various types of diseases. In this first extraction two
important techniques were used and, these are the use of the rotary evaporator and gravity
filtration. Gravity filtration was used to complete a solid liquid extraction of the nutmeg and ethyl
acetate into a round bottom flask. The rotary evaporator was utilized to evaporate the ethyl acetate
in the flask and leave waxy yellowish trymristin crystals. The crystals underwent recrystallization

Frankenstein, By Mary Shelly
In the story Frankenstein , by Mary Shelly, we are given the perspective of both, creation and
creator, as we get to know them and what drives them to do the things that they do. The story
mainly follows Victor Frankenstein, and his tales from early childhood to his time studying
philosophy and science. This spark for the sciences and for life causes his desire to create life
itself, and after months of studying, creates the creature. It s horrid appearance causes him to
despise the creature. It eventually departs from Victor s home, and lives alone as it continues to
be mistreated by mankind and learns to hate and despise them. He takes his anger and unleashes it
on those close to his creator, killing his beloved brother. It was after this that the creature asks
Victor to create a companion in which he ultimately denies which causes the creature to kill more
of the people that he loves in rage and hatred. These two whom despise one another have many
differences between them, but also share some qualities as well.
The story is mainly focused on Victor Frankenstein, a man greatly influenced by the sciences, which
later led him to create the creature. Throughout the novel, it is constantly shown of the love that
surrounds Victor. He has people who care for him, and worry about his health. Mary Shelley
writes, You will find a happy, cheerful home and friends who love you dearly (144). This portion

Analysis of William Faulkner s Noble Prize of Literature Acceptance Speech William Faulkner
was an often misunderstood writer of many novels and short stories. ( William Faulkner s Nobel
Prize Acceptance Speech ) It was not until 1949 and after his death when he was given the Nobel
Prize in Literature that people began to acknowledge him and his works. ( William Faulkner ) In
his Nobel Prize of Literature acceptance speech, at the city hall in Stockholm on December 10,
1950, Faulkner uses a powerful tone and effective rhetorical devices to convey his purpose. In his
Nobel Prize of Literature acceptance speech, William Faulkner utilizes rhetorical devices such as ...

This device helps him convey that people need to start writing about emotional conflicts with
themselves because that alone can make good writing. He also uses a metaphor to compare the
writing of something meaningful and important to something not when he states, He writes not of
the heart but of the glands . This helps the effectiveness by comparing something major and
meaningful such as the heart to something less meaningful and pity as a gland. These were
effective by helping Faulkner relate to everyday situations and thing we are familiar in life therefore
aiding him in connecting with his audience.
Faulkner uses syntactical strategies throughout his speech to assist him in communicating his
message to his audience. In the third paragraph he emphasizes a syntax device known as anaphora,
when stating, He must learn them again... He much teach himself... He writes not of love...He
writes not of the heart... .The anaphora helps Faulkner be effective in his argument by the
repetition of words to help him get his view of things across to the audience. To also succor his
effectiveness he uses polysyndeton, which is used to draw the audience s attention therefore
adding the effect of persistence and intensity to help keep his audiences attention, making his
speech effective. An example of polysyndeton is when he declares love and honor and pity and
pride and compassion and sacrifice This quote helps signify that authors need to write from their

My Trip To Lake Tahoe Changed My Life
When I graduated in June of 2014 I really wasn t sure what I wanted out of life. I was prepared to
go to the local community college undecided. I was dragging my feet when it came to getting
ready to start school in the fall, and I knew I wasn t ready. I approached my mom with the idea of
flying out to California and get to know my familyand grandparents there better. 3 weeks later I
was on a planeflying to Sacramento, as all my friends began their freshman year of college. I ll
admit it was tough to see all my friends take the next step in life and I was a couple thousand
miles away with nothing planned out. I decided to take that weekend and head to Lake Tahoe. It
literally was a breath of fresh air for me. I was at (debatably) the most beautiful lake on earth.
Things seemed clearer to me after that trip and I was able to remind myself that not everyone
takes the same path in life, and we definitely won t all end up in the same place. I took the rest of
those few months to be outdoorsy, paddleboard, hike and ride horses. When November came and it
was time to come home, I was ready.

Wyoming. Durning my layover in Denver I had a phone interview and when I landed in
Columbus I had a new job. The next day I bought my ticket and flew straight back. As soon as I
started working on the ranch I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I wanted to live in amazing
beautiful, wild places. It was a relief to be so sure about my future for the first time in my life. The

Immigration And Immigration Movement
The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of
railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that
facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new
immigrant settlements in western states and territories.
In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who
defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the
migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans
engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were
motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition
(1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803.
Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s
resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route
to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that awed and dazzled onlookers

Description Of Borderline Personality Disorder
Rationale for diagnosis: I arrived at the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder for several
different reasons. According to the American Psychiatric Association (2013), Borderline Personality
Disorder is defined as A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image,
and affects, and marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of
contexts. One of the defining characteristics within this definition for Borderline Personality
Disorderis Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment . Robin s case states that she
would often verbally downgrade her companions and then a short time later she would end up
worrying that she may have estranged them. Robin would then do something kind for her
companions to keep them close and remain devoted to her. Robin meets this defining characteristic
because, as stated, she becomes frantic when she feels that someone is going to abandon her and
puts forth an effort to do something kind for them to avoid this abandonment. Another defining
characteristic of Borderline Personality Disorder is A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal
relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation .
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Robin s personal relationships with others were said
to be quite abnormal; she would rapidly and with no reason shift from one mood to another. This
seems to describe a pattern between Robin valuing her friends at times, yet also belittling them at
other times in an extreme and alternating manner. Another characteristic that Robin possesses that
is used in describing Borderline Personality Disorder is Impulsivity in at least two areas that are
potentially self damaging . (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The two areas that Robin
portrays acts of self damaging are through substance abuse (in Robin s case, alcohol) and binge
eating due to her having Bulimia Nervosa. On a side note, eating disorders, particularly bulimia,
are common in people with Borderline Personality Disorder; almost 25% of bulimics have the
disorder. (Zanarini, Reichman, Frankenburg, Reich, Fitzmaurice, 2010), and, up to 67% of the
people with this disorder are

Marketing and Ice Cream
Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure
can be made more attractive? (663 words)
The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The
financial crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s
consumption ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who
relied on external market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily
impacted by the financial crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which
intensified the competition in the market. Russian government s value added tax further decreased
the profit of ice cream producers. Beside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to
recoup the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm
houses in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market
was crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be
adopted. Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation
would guarantee the shelf space. A strong brandwith strong customer preference would pull the
demand and increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and
longer quality guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long,
supermarket would have to discount the product as the deadline approaching.
CafГ© and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on

The Essence Of All Art
The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure (Baryshnikov). Music and dance,
whether solo or coupled have the ability to mindfully catapult one through a porthole; where the

occurrence is certain; most civilizations have shared the practice of musicand dance amongst other
complimentary art forms. Humanly relatable, though other cultures were advanced in these forms
of arts or have expounded vividly above others. The mainstream belief of the evolution of
instrument crafting and playing, or folk dance had relied on the recorded information and
archeological findings, which suggest Mesopotamian cultures to have developed instruments along
with the art of dancing. Man made, rustic and harmonic artistic deliverance boomed between 3500
to 500 B.C. (Koopman). However, the reference of where it rooted may be re examined with a
Paleolithic tootle that designates otherwise. Regardless, where the art of music had flourished, The

The Laws Of Sex Trafficking
There are many other types of trafficking other than the stereotypical 17 year old girl. The most
prevalent is labor trafficking. Traffickers exploit punishment through manipulation of laws. Even
now, traffickers are causing psychological and sometimes physical damage on their victims. Many
companies are attempting to rid of trafficking within their plants, there are people working for
cheaper rates, which, result in higher acceptance rates. In 2001, when Germany legalized
prostitution, illegal traffic decreased by 10%. (Reisenwitz, Cathy) Therefore, the laws of sex
trafficking should be fortified because traffickers manipulate laws and legalization of prosecution
dropped illegal trafficking rates, we should focus on helping all victims rather than focusing on sex
trafficking.
Granted that traffickers avoid punishment, they are able to manipulate their victims. A troubled
child s parent did not know what was happening, but her child was introverted and less social.
(Greenlee Donnel, Cynthia) this evidence helps support the fact that this child was so troubled that
he did not confess what was happening despite the discerned alterations. However, many vagrant
individuals are resorting to drugs and sex. This can result in them being pimped due to craving
money. (Picard, Andre) there are many ways that the victims are exploited.
However, some countries want to begin a death sentence for convicted traffickers. China s ministry
of public security also claims that human

I.INTRODUCTION
The growing complexity of today s software demands sophisticated software analysis tools and
techniques to enable the development of robust, reliable and secure software. Moreover, increasing
usage of third party libraries or plugins where source code is not readily available presents
additional challenges to effective software testing [11]. The cost to fix bugs prior to releasing the
software is often times much lower than the cost to fix bugs post release, especially in the case of
security bugs. A number of automated software testing tools and techniques are commonly used in
the industry. While automation significantly reduces the overhead of manual testing, finding
deeply embedded security defects is not always automatable. Furthermore, automated software
testing is prone to false positives or false negatives. Hence, there is a burgeoning need to advance
the state of the art in software testing. In this context, Concolic testing is

How Is John Winthrop Different From A Model Of Puristian...
In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop led the great migration to the New World. On board the ship
Arbella, John Winthrop delivered a sermon titled A Model of Christian Charity. His speech outlined
the objectives he hoped to achieve in the New World. His ideals slightly influenced the Puritans
judgments and philosophy however not as much as he had initially hoped for. It seems the
judgments of the Suffolk County Court were not influenced by the Arbella sermon. Similarly, it
doesn t appear that Winthrop s sermon influenced the testimony against Bridget Bishop either.
However, the Suffolk County Court cases do differ from the case against Bridget Bishop. The
paradox between the two illustrates both Puritansuccesses and failures.... Show more content on

Taken as a whole, Winthrop s message of love was his technique to unite his Puritan followers in
the New World.
The ideals of the Arbella sermon do not seem to influence the judgments of the Suffolk County
Court or the testimony against Bridget Bishop. Michael Johnson, author of Reading the
American Past, notes that, the court records of Suffolk County between 1671 and
1673...illustrate the New Englanders deviated from the highest aspirations of the Puritan
founders and that courts did what they could to curb those deviations (52 53). The theme of love
in Winthrop s sermon must have gone unaffected judging by the type of cases in Suffolk County.
For example, a wife was sentenced to be whipped ten times or pay a twenty Shilling fine to the
County for striking her husband. For being drunk and abusing his wife, John Veering was
punished by being whipped thirty times and humiliated by standing in the open marketplace with
a sign across his chest declaring his guilt. It is obvious that the ideals of the Arbella sermon were
not present in the case against Bridget Bishop. She was accused of witchcraft and eight days after
her trial she was the first accused witch to be hung in Salem. Once again, love is not evident in
either of the two works.
The cases that came before the Suffolk court differ in a variety of ways from the accusations made
against Bridget Bishop. The

This coffeehouse band has evolved and altered their sound after nearly two decades. Another name they go by is Death Cab for Cutie. DCFC have found a way within their eight studio album discography to never lose their personal or emotional voice. With six Extended Plays, over twenty singles and several other appearances, DCFC is an unstoppable force that preach the ups and downs of life. This track begins on a high note and never lets up. The sounds coming from each instrument are as bombastic as fireworks going off. The epic ensembles that follow Gibbard s calling, so this is the New Year, seem to have come from the skies of Mount Olympus. The drumming is loud, the bass is like a gong, and the guitar contrasts as a wind current flowing in reverse. This song departs from the band s normal flat surface vibes. The lyrics are cheap, but highlight a fun New Year s Eve moment while describing the anxiety of New Year s resolutions. The New Year, is like a rock opera. Gibbard, Walla, Harmer, and McGerr must have been listening to Queen before recording this song. This is possibly one of the greatest openings to any indie rock album. Give DFCF a round of ... Land in the South was available for the farms and plantations there, many men in the South would own one with at least 50 acres. But the demand for land from the growing amount of African slaves coming to America rose quickly, and the need to expand past the Appalachian Mountians began to look necessary. System Security Monitoring System Security Monitoring UOPX CMGT/442 November 5, 2012 Henry Rivera Jr. Every organization has risks and it is extremely critical for them to identify what these risks are and to mitigate and avoid further damages in case of disastrous events. These disastrous events can be prevented by designing and implementing a robust security monitoring system and utilizing industry proven practices and activities. Information Security refers to safety of information in terms of confidentiality, integrity, availability, and non repudiation (Byrnes amp; Proctor, 2002). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The state monitoring can cover the analysis of security policies, access controls put in place, password requirements, network security controls, permissions, viruses, and inappropriate files such as unnecessary image, music, videos, and other multimedia files. The system must also be able to examine any workstation s current installed applications and determine whether or not updated versions exist. Any unnecessary or redundant data from the logs must be extracted out as well. Security monitoring does not just stop at the monitoring level. The security system must be able to protect the data collected from the security monitoring system itself. Any vulnerabilities and holes will leave the security monitoring system ineffective and render it useless, especially in cases of modification and tampering. Tampered data will never result to meaningful conclusions. Activity data must be confidential and regarded as sensitive. The system must be able to compare negative and positive data and figure out which priority levels are given to each data and event. Another important aspect is that the security monitoring systems and activities do not hinder or get in the way of the business operations (Fry, amp; Nystrom, 2009). In an event of intrusion or security disaster, a security audit must be put into action immediately to avoid further damages. The first thing to conduct is to confirm that a security breach or ... • 8. Freedom Under Hospitable Captivity Essay The Matrix (Andy and Lana Wachowski, 1999) appeals to a Western ideology of freedom in its most general sense by depicting a fight against the enslavement of the human race in a post apocalyptic world controlled by machines. The machines use the humans, whose minds are trapped in a computer program, as an energy source. In this world of machines, the Wachowskis expand upon the totalitarianism seen in other works of fiction, such as 1984 by George Orwell. The totalitarian state of 1984, Airstrip One, becomes the whole planet in The Matrix, and the oppressed citizens become nearly the entire human race. Only a group of rebels escape from the machines by creating a city below the surface of the earth. The main character, Neo (Keanu... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His life changes when Trinity (Carrie Anne Moss) tells him that he is being watched and that the answer to What is the Matrix? is looking for him. After an encounter with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), Morpheus gives Neo the call to action with a phone call that sends Neo to the Adam s Street Bridge to meet Trinity and later be freed from the Matrix, entering the belly of the whale. Morpheus becomes the supernatural mentor during Neo s training the road of trials aboard the Nebuchadnezzar, the rebel ship. After the agents capture Morpheus in the second call to action, Neo proves that he is the One by saving Morpheus and dealing with the agents, the ultimate boon. In the process, he stops bullets in mid air by opening his mind using a supernatural force and makes Agent Smith explode in a guilt free act of violence. A unique feature of the film is that Neo is not presented with a situation in which to resist temptation. It is unusual that this classic aspect of the Monomyth is left out. Frodo has the ring, Buddha has three women, Christ has the three temptations of the Devil, etcetera.2 Thus, the film follows much of the Monomyth but still manages to be unique. Freedom has different definitions and histories in various parts of the world. The most important definition of freedom in the context of The Matrix is that of the Western World. • 10. The Dysfunction Of The Walls Family Could the dysfunction of the Walls family have fostered the extraordinary resilience and strength of the three older siblings through a collaborative set of rites of passage? One could argue that the unusual and destructive behavior of the parents forced the children into a unique collection of rites of passage that resulted in surprisingly resilient and successful adults. In moving back to Welch, Virginia, the children lost what minimal sense of security they may have enjoyed while living in their grandmother s home in Arizona. The culture and climate (both socially and environmentally) along with an increased awareness of their poverty resulted in a significant loss of identity. The deplorable piggy bank car, with the garbage bag passenger window, and junk tied to the roof could not be ignored. Rose Mary commented, You know you re down and out when Okies laugh at you. In a sense, they began to self isolate to prevent further embarrassment. With the arrival of the family in Welch, the sense of disconnection was furthered by the blending of family politics. The Walls family, dependent upon the charity of Rex s parents for food and shelter now had to contend with racism and sexual abuse. The children who had been encouraged to speak freely about their opinions now had to keep quiet. Jeanette had visited a different neighborhood which her uncle had referred to as Niggerville, and this blatantly racist attitude was a shock (Walls 143). The grandmother accosted Jeanette that day, commenting keep this up and people are going to think you are a nigger lover not only was the word offensive to Jeanette, she told her grandmother You re not supposed to use that word, mom says they are just like us (Walls 143). The site was right next to the car park and the start of the Tongariro crossing track. The temperature was 16.1 degrees C which was a warm enough for a large amount of vegetation to grow. There was a wind speed of 4.6 metres per second. The vegetation was very dense with about 80% heather, 10% tussock grass, 8% bare ground, 1% light green moss and 1% dark moss. Scotch Heather was planted in Tongariro Park from 1912 1922 to provide a habit for grouse, a medium to large game bird. A Look into Data Mining Today with the ever growing use of computers in the world, information is constantly moving from one place to another. What is this information, who is it about, and who is using it will be discussed in the following paper. The collecting, interpreting, and determination of use of this information has come to be known as data mining. This term known as data mining has been around only for a short time but the actual collection of data has been happening for centuries. • 14. The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative, Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him, and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossomgrieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result. • 20. The Theory Behind Absolute Advantage Over many years there has been many conceptual theories devised to help explain the reasons why there is trade within the world accompanied by the possibilities that gains could or could not be made. This piece of work will examine four main theories put forward by Adam Smith (Absolute advantage, 1776) which was then expanded on by David Ricardo with his theory of the Ricardian Model (Comparative advantage, 1817). Also including the Heckscher Ohlin model (relative factor abundance, 1919, 1933) and the ideas of New Trade Theory (Economies of Scale and Imperfect Competition). These ideas will be evaluated and synthesised to see if these explanations truly explain the reasons of trade theory. Absolute advantage was an idea suggest by Adam Smith in 1817. The theory behind absolute advantage suggests that if a country is highly skilled and efficient in producing a certain good with the fewer resources, then it is believed that a specific country has an absolute advantage in the production of that good (Sloman Garratt, 2013). However Absolute advantage can only occur if the country using its resources for a specific good/service does so efficiently otherwise no gains are made from trading. Although it can be argued that the idea of Absolute advantage does not particularly make much sense in explaining trade patterns. As said in Feenstra s and Taylors book, Absolute advantage does not particularly help to explain the case of why the US imports snowboards from places like China ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words, plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production, distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their existence. Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene ). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity. To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ). Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. • 25. Newton s Laws of Motion An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force (Newton s First Law). To determine if a person should run or walk, you will have to understand the Second Law of Motion. The second law states that force equals mass times acceleration. In order for a person of a certain mass to accelerate, that person must use some force, so the force must overcome gravity, friction, and be larger than the mass of the person trying to move (Newton s Second Law of Motion). If you want to walk or run you will need a bigger force (В¶ 4). To walk is not as hard as running, so less force is needed to succeed in doing it (Forester). This leads us to the third law of motion, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton s Third Law). Another concept of Physics is moving water. For example, flushing the toilet, waterfalls and dams. Flushing a toilet is a great example of transferring energy. Usually on most toilets there is tan on the back of it filled with water. Water that is stored is a great example of potential energy and no kinetic energy. Once toilet is flushed, it gives the water momentum. From waterfalls and dams we can produce hydropower. • 33. Film Analysis Of Mothlight, By Stan Brakhage Mothlight, by Stan Brakhage, is also a film heavily focused on the visuals. Released in 1963, Mothlight s running time of four minutes consists of nothing but what look like pictures of winged insects and foliage. Further investigation reveals that Brakhage created the film without a camera, and instead used two strips of splicing tape to press the object enough to emit light through it (Braunstein 285). No viewer of Mothlight will stop to wonder about a conceivable plot the film could be trying to convey. The film itself does not express that there is a plot to be perceived. Instead, audiences view the visuals and think only about the visuals because it is the only thing being presented. Once the connection to the title of the film is made, the next natural question to ask is How? The question is no longer directed at the screen in which the film is being projected. Instead, the question becomes about the physical objects being presented. Brakhage was able to use film to show or emphasize a part of nature one might not have taken a second to observe. By directing attention to film as a physical object, Brakhage used Mothlight to enlighten audiences with a unique technique to showcase the visuals of film. A Movie and Mothlight are both subverting preconceptions of mainstream cinema at the time, but they both do so by calling the audience s attention to the film medium. A Movie puts effort into directly reminding audiences that it is a film while Mothlight gets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Moral Responsibilities Within A Corporation Corporations can be large or small but they all have some sort of ethical impact on their employees, shareholders, customers, community, and surrounding environments. Richard DeGeorge writes, We can speak of corporations having moral responsibilities to act in certain ways, and they are morally responsible for the consequences of their actions on people. (p. 200). Large corporations are comprised of the board of directors, management, and their workers. They also deal with suppliers, customers, and have competitors. This essay will examine the moral responsibilities within a corporation. In large corporations the success or failure of the company is the responsibility of the board of directors. According to Richard DeGeorge, The members of the board are responsible to the shareholders for the selection of honest, effective managers, and especially for the selection for the CEO and of the president of the corporation. (p. 202). The board members have a moral responsibility to ensure the corporation is run honestly, in respect to its major policies, and to ensure the interests of the shareholders are satisfied. The next responsibility within a corporation is the responsibility management has to its board of directors. • 35. Causing The 2008 Crisis Causing the 2008 Crisis As the financial system moved forward after the S L Crisis, what later became known as the parallel banking system began to bloom. In this system, commercial banks began to act like large investment banks and quickly the financial system as a whole became much larger, more complex and much more active in securitization. Some industry analysts say that it was advances in data processing and telecommunication that created economies of scale and scope in finance, and fostered the need for larger and more diversified financial institutions. As these banks became larger and much more powerful, they pressured regulators to strip away all barriers to competition and growth. This began to take hold with the Riegle Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act in 1994 (RNIBBEA). This allowed bankholding companies to practice nationwide branching and acquire companies in other states. This led to mass consolidation that resulted in the top ten commercial and investment banks owning a combined 10.8 trillion dollars by 2007, and a 25% increase in all industry assets. The argument behind this mass deregulation was that the larger then ever institutions would have strong incentive to protect shareholders and would carefully regulate themselves. The push to deregulate strengthened when the largest institutions began to openly attack the Glass Steagall Act that separated commercial and investment banks, by using recent deregulation to gather beachheads ... Living during Fidel Castro s harsh regime as a homosexual male led to several years of torture, for he was imprisoned, but ultimately set free. Additionally, his writing was bold and went against everything that Castro represented, and he took extreme risks to get his work published in other countries. The world heard the prolific voice of Arenas, while the Cuban government, his fellow writers, and even his lovers tried to silence him. Arenas was an extremely important figure in Latin culture. This is not simply because his work was profound; his life gives us a deeper look at the difficulties of struggling with homosexuality, masculinity, and finding freedom. He embodies resilience, charisma, determination, and at the same time fragility, weakness and pain. Arenas is not defined by the typical Spanish embodiment of masculinity. His homosexuality is what truly defines his character, his shortcomings, his relationships and his writing. From the beginning of the film, it is clear that he has no interest in women, as we see him as a young man with a female prostitute in a club, completely void of emotion. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements in western states and territories. In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. • 47. Description Of Borderline Personality Disorder Rationale for diagnosis: I arrived at the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder for several different reasons. According to the American Psychiatric Association (2013), Borderline Personality Disorder is defined as A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image, and affects, and marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts. One of the defining characteristics within this definition for Borderline Personality Disorderis Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment . Robin s case states that she would often verbally downgrade her companions and then a short time later she would end up worrying that she may have estranged them. Robin would then do something kind for her companions to keep them close and remain devoted to her. Robin meets this defining characteristic because, as stated, she becomes frantic when she feels that someone is going to abandon her and puts forth an effort to do something kind for them to avoid this abandonment. Another defining characteristic of Borderline Personality Disorder is A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation . (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Robin s personal relationships with others were said to be quite abnormal; she would rapidly and with no reason shift from one mood to another. This seems to describe a pattern between Robin valuing her friends at times, yet also belittling them at other times in an extreme and alternating manner. Another characteristic that Robin possesses that is used in describing Borderline Personality Disorder is Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self damaging . (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The two areas that Robin portrays acts of self damaging are through substance abuse (in Robin s case, alcohol) and binge eating due to her having Bulimia Nervosa. On a side note, eating disorders, particularly bulimia, are common in people with Borderline Personality Disorder; almost 25% of bulimics have the disorder.
