The Lyme Disease
Lyme disease has been identified as an infection surrounded by complications, starting from its
discovery to diagnosis. The Lyme infection was discovered first during the mid 1970, following the
attribution of juvenile arthritis outbreak to this disease near Old Lyme, Connecticut. The naming of
the disease was established in 1977, although the complications of the causative agent lasted an
additional five years, after which medical scientists identified the deer tickmidgut Borrelia
burgdorferi spirochete as the supposed causative agent (Lyme Research Alliance, n.d.).
In the US, the illness is the most prevalent of all tick borne infections. The disease has been termed
in New York, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New
Jersey, Minnesota, and Maryland an endemic infection. As of 2009, provides the most useful data
regarding the infection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recorded an
approximation of confirmed Lyme disease cases ranging up to 30,000 new cases. The basic
complication of Lyme disease possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Disseminated Lyme disease symptoms are most prevalent in victims of either misdiagnosis or total
lack of prior diagnosis. The difficulty at this stage prevails with the nature of the symptoms, which
could be confusing because of the nature of being persistent or transient (California Lyme Disease
Association, n.d.). The disease finally sets in the chronic stage, characterized by a late infection that
is persistent. However, the complication of the Lyme disease at this point is connected to the lack
of universal recognition of the condition, even by experts in infectious disease. Thus, the diagnosis
of Lyme disease becomes a controversial presentation (Lyme Research Alliance, n.d.). The chronic
stage notably takes up to months and at times years to appear following initial bites by a

How The Geographical, Governmental, And Human Development...
Those considered poor in developing countries often lack the fundamental access to buy
adequate food, water, or other basic needs. Although recent World Bank data has revealed that
world poverty has declined 43 percent since 1990 and 52 percent since 1981, poverty is still a
worldwide phenomenon that is prevalent even among the most highly industrialized countries .
Presently, according to World Bank data, 1.22 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day in 2010
and 2.4 billion people live on less than US $2 a day in 2010. This is almost half of the world s
population. The scope of this study is limited somewhat because povertyis a multidimensional
concept in which a voluminous number of factors can be causally related to this phenomenon.
Therefore, this research will seek to answer what impact does the geographical, governmental, and
human development characteristics have on the rate of poverty in developing countries.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
The existence of poverty is as old as time itself, and still perplexes scholars of the world today. The
conceptualization of poverty is a multifaceted phenomenon in which varying factors contribute to
this worldwide problem. Thus, six arguments of poverty will warrant closer examination: including
culture, gender inequality, economic growth, geographical region, human development, and
government. First, scholars that link culture to poverty argue those countries that are inherently
poor must change their prevailing customs and

What Is The Snapchat-Personal Narrative
When March 5th finally arrived we had a lot of preparations to tend to. We were pretty sure the
Mack s would leave at night, they told Alex they had a family birthday party to go to. Unlike
past Fight Nights no invitations were sent out, everyone was invited. We posted Alex s address
on all forms of social media that morning. I then went to Alex s in the middle of the afternoon to
help him set up for the night. We moved couches, and set up the basement for optimal viewing.
Now all we had to do was wait for the Macks to leave. We hung around the house for the rest of
the day but right around dinner time I left to make it less obvious and met Katie Peters and
Hannah Bouas at subway for dinner. Alex was going to call me whenever his parents left... Show

We expected that the only fight that night would be Chandler vs. Brendan, that was definitely
not the case. Before the main event there were six other fights. We had attracted a lot of the
seniors to Fight Night X and they were definitely down for fighting. These minor fights included,
Alex Mack vs. Zach Diecker, Luke Worley vs. Blake Metcalf, Max Kemper vs. Collin Goveia,
Michael Smith vs. Austin Sweet, Square vs Joe Wolf, Bryce Rutledge vs. Parker McDonald all
leading up to the main event. Will Hogan had been taking cash bets throughout the night and
Brendan was the heavy favorite. (Our event had turned from an underground fight club to an
underground fight club with illegal gambling) Brendan was the favorite due to his size and the
fact that he was getting shipped off to Army basic training in just a few months. But, he was a
wild card, like I stated earlier he was not part of our friend group so we had never seen him fight.
This was unlike Chandler who was a Fight Night veteran with a side of batshit crazy when it came
to wrestling. After a crowd pumping introduction from Joe Wolf the most historic fight in Fight

Civil War Reconstruction Essays
The period after the Civil War was a very difficult time in the United States history. This time was
known as the Reconstruction period and it was a very controversial time. There were many issues
that had to be addressed such as what to do with the free blacks in the south and how states would
be readmitted to the Union. This era saw the rise of the Radical Republicans. The government was
going through changes, southerners were going through changes, and blacks were going through
changes. Whites in the south were left without people to work their plantations. Slavery was indeed
a very important topic during this time. Many of the reconstructionplans that were proposed
required states to prohibit slavery in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson s Plan had nothing to say about the rights of blacks after the war. Most Northern
Democrats favored Johnson s Plan. However Southerners were not so impressed. Many of the
southern states accepted Johnson s plan but some of them attacked the black rights issue. Some
states would not ratify the thirteenth amendment. None of the southern states would allow
blacks to vote. In late 1865 the southern states revised their slave codes into what became know
as the black codes. This basically stripped blacks of every right and justice that was due to them.
Since Johnson s plan did not address the rights and liberties of blacks, the southern states took it
into their own hands to create their own laws regarding blacks. When Congress met again they
began to fight for the rights of blacks. They responded to the black codes by passing the Civil
Rights Act of 1866. President Johnson vetoed the bill but Congress overruled his veto with a 2/3
majority vote. Congress view of President Johnson began to deteriorate.
The Military Reconstruction Acts did not go over well with President Johnson. He vetoed the bill,
however the Radical Republicans passed it over Johnson s veto. These acts began in 1867 and
began what was known as Radical Reconstruction. Under this plan the south was divided into five
districts. Excluding Tennessee because they had already been readmitted into the Union. Each of the

Lousy Sex Summary
The article The Opposite Sex: with Lisa May Stevens excerpted from the book Lousy Sex, by
Gerald N. Callahan dives deep into the concept of gender that we humans have deemed a taboo
subject. This article sought to question what gender is and why humans feel the need to have it.
Callahan explores other species that ignore our strict rules regarding genderand thrive just the
same. This article was extremely fascinating and helped me to open up my perception as to what
gender truly is. It was also surprising to me that so many other people are confused as to what
gender really is. Humans have tried so hard to make gender black and white, but it is often more
flowing and unique to each person. Gender is an amazingly interesting topic that seeks... Show

This gender nonconformity that Lisa May has, was obviously not something that Lisa May
chose, but is something that she has to live with and hopefully can love. I was surprised to hear
that Lisa May lives in Fort Collins, as a lot of the people here are what most would classify as
hegemonic America. I am so appreciative of people who dare to identify as something different
and people like Lisa May, who wear these differences on the outside. I appreciated this article s
description of Lisa May and the way it showed her humanness and I can now understand that we
have more similarities than differences. One of the quotes in the article that really stuck with
me was when Lisa May said, I d rather people see me as sexy than as a dog dressed up. Not only
is this very strong language with a lot of imagery, but it really makes others think about their
actions. To think of any women calling herself a dog is heartbreaking and is something that
should never go through their minds. What is even more unsettling is that in the case of Lisa
May people feel as though they have the right to see her differences as ugly. It then makes sense
that May would feel as though she would have to do extra. People like Lisa May will probably
always be noticed first in a room, but that doesn t necessarily have to be a

Encoding Specificity
Background
For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information
is studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on
paper, computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this
could have an effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of
information. Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be
retrieved that has been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored .
What they are saying is information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of
encoding and recall. Based on this principle it is possible that ... Show more content on

In that experiment they where testing recognition memory. A normal college test doesn t just test for
recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in
other studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers
recall more words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and
Baddeley 1975). This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding
specificity principle. The medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test
score will be higher if the medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking
at associative memory context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or
weak association, they then had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971).
They summarized their results saying, with availability of stored information held constant,
recognition of a previously seen item depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition
being higher if test context matches the input context than if the input context is removed or
altered. Here a different form of context aids recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the
same type of extrinsic context as the environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980)

Policy Suggestions for Vietnam s Gas Industry
Hai Tien Le
CNAPS Visiting Fellow Working Paper
3
Vietnam s gas policy should address and looks at a number of possible solutions. Finally, the paper
concludes with some overall comments regarding gas policy in Vietnam.
II. Overview of Vietnam s gas industry
Natural gas is a critical source of energy for Vietnam, and it plays an important role in the nation
s energy economy. BMI reports that natural gas is the second biggest primary energy provider,
accounting for 18 percent of the nation s energy, followed by coal and hydroelectric power. It is
expected that the use of gas will increase to account for 31 percent of Vietnam s primary energy
demand, and oil demand will be down to 38 percent. 3
Vietnam s natural gas industry has developed a long way from its initial small onshore field
located in Thai Binh province, south of Haiphong, in the 1970s. Today there are three major reserve
basins located in southern Vietnam Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, and
Malay Tho Chu which supply the power generation and fertilizer projects currently under operation.
The modern natural gas industry was born in 1995, with the production of associated gas from the
Bach Ho oil field to the Ba Ria Power Plant, which had an

Poe s Perception Of Himself In The Tell Tale Heart
In a work of literature the perception, or opinion on something, will vary from the reader to the
narrator. The play The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator kills a man because of
his vulture like eye. The narrator views himself as a sane and smart individual because of his
actions. The narrator s perception of himself differs quite a lot from those of the reader as they
interpret his actions differently, leading them to think he is mentally deranged. Poe s writing
style contributes to these perceptions of the narrator. The speaker of the text thinks of himself
as a sane and smart individual. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how
calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1). This example supports the speaker s view of
himself as it shows he does not think he s mad. He believes a mad person could not describe or
tell the story of what he did healthily and calmly , but because he can he must be sane. But you
should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded with what caution with... Show

Poe uses repetition to emphasize some things the speaker did. I moved it slowly very, very
slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man s sleep (Poe 1). This supports the speaker s view
of himself because he was wise and cautious prior to murdering the old man. In favor of the
readers perception of the speaker, Poe writes it as if the speaker was telling the story directly to
the readers. This contributes to the thought that the narrator is mentally deranged because
because Poe s tone and choice of words make the speaker sound as if he was not affected, until
the end, by the event. I smiled, for what had I to fear? I bade the gentlemen welcome... I bade
them search search well (Poe 3). The speaker appears calm because he felt he had nothing to hide
despite the fact he had just recently committed

Character development is seen in almost every character in the play Othello. Most of the
characters are seen tumbling in a downwards spiral of their former self; while other characters
are seen becoming more powerful due to the loss of power from the people above them. One of the
characters that developed from her superior s weaknesses is Iago s wife, Emilia. Emilia spends most
of her time with Othello s wife, Desdemona. Most of their conversation surrounds the topics of
gender roles in society and in their relationships. Desdemona s insecurity in her relationship leads

Although Iago shoots her down; the fact that she even questioned him, shows change between Act
I Emilia and Act III Emilia. Although Emilia gave her husband the handkerchief he so very much
desired for his love; she still wondered what he had in store for her friend, Desdemona. In Act IV,
Othello hits Desdemona and they both continue in a downward spiral. At this time, Emilia and
Desdemona are really good friends and the audience sees a switch between the two.
The outspoken Desdemona is now a reserved housewife; and the reserved Emilia is now the
outspoken confidant that Desdemona relies on. She believes that her friend does not deserve the
treatment that has been served to her; so she speaks out on her problems reversing the roles placed
on them both. As Desdemona begins to settle into the housewife settings, she calls upon Iago and

A Report On Tigers Delight

Tigers Delight The largest tiger in the world has been measured at over ten feet long and over six
hundred and sixty pounds! Tigers are apart of the cat family and are known to be the largest feline
in the bunch. Within just the tiger species there are nine different subspecies and three of which
are already extinct. Their differences are not as drastic in appearance like other animals, such as
dogs for example, but they still noticeable to the trained eye. All tiger subspecies are currently
classified as being endangered but there are many actions being taken to help keep the current
surviving species from going extinct. Most tigers in nature live to be ten to fifteen years old.
Tigers by nature are carnivores and are only found in nature in one continent on earth, which is
Asia. Unlike most cats tiger enjoy swimming and spend the majority of the hot summer days
resting in rivers or lakes. OneKind.org is an animal relief organization and they explain that tiger
s roar can carry more than 2 km and they are most active hunters at night (OneKind). Knowing
information about the six living subspecies of tigers and their differences, whether it be physical
make up or social habits, and what organizations are out there and what they are doing to help the
endangered species, is a brilliant start to having a well rounded knowledge of tigers.
Like all mammals tigers grow up, but what s unique to tigers that is different

There are many different beliefs, problems, and changes that occurred overtime in regards to the
Eucharist.
People throughout the first century began worshipping God before the sun rose. The Christians
would often hold these gatherings in someone s house. However, the location was frequently
changed due to the occurrence of persecutions. During these services the people would read and
interpret the scripture. Later, the president of the brethren would be presented with the bread and
the wine mixed with water. He would take these gifts and offer glory and praise to god. These
people believed that no one was allowed to share the Eucharist unless he or she fully believed in

It isn t until the priests blesses these that they become the Body and Blood. Rightly then, do we
believe that the bread consecrated by the word of God has been made over into the Body of God
of the Word (St. Gregory). When this miracle occurs, the bread that was made over into that
Body is made to change into divine strength (St. Gregory). These two substances are worth so
little before they have been blessed, because they are simply common bread and wine. According
to St. Gregory the bread and wine receive a similar blessing as the men wanting to become priests
do. The power of the Holy Spirit comes down in both of these instances to give a blessing. The man
turns into a priest, while the bread and wine turn into the Body and Blood. (St.

Homosexual Equality In Australia
Homosextual people (someone who is attracted to the same gender as their own eg. gay or lesbian)
have constantly faced discrimination by both the state and society. Through the movement to
equality, more recent generations have strived to create an environment where homosexual people
have more rights than they have had previously. Although globally homosexualityhas become
relatively accepted, there are still many ways in which discrimination and intolerance negatively
impact gayand lesbian lives.
In the past fifty years the movement towards homosextual heterosextual equality has resulted in a
change in the social attitude towards a discriminated minority. Despite this, many homosexual
people still face discrimination today by both the state and society. The first act to end
discrimination was in 1974 in South Australia, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mortgages with terms unfavorable to borrowers, who were often families that did not qualify for

Having the possible risk of being sentenced to death is supposed to be a general deterrence.
The theory within this theory known as the special deterrence theory further states the punishment
for criminal acts should be significantly more severe for convicted criminals to deter them from
ever repeating their acts again.
Although many argue the deterrence theories are not effective, many researchers have
acknowledged that if the expecting costs of committing crimes go up without the increase of
expected benefit, potential criminals will not commit as many crimes (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007).
Although all of these theories have very different points of view on why organized crime and
criminal behavior exist and continue to exist, they all have adopted ways to solve the problem and
those ways have been implemented into our criminal justice system in many ways to deter and
control criminal activity. The variables of the cause of organized crime is still debated by many, but
social institutions and being the product of our environment is clearly a good foundation to start
with.

Critical Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton in 1990, features Burton s distinctive style, themes
and story elements. Moreover, it is influenced stylistically by the German Expressionism;
distortion of objects and bodies, such as the trimmed hedges, Gothic elements, for instance Edward
s castle or his clothes, and the music played throughout the film, curves and crooked lines in the
pathway of the neighbourhood, and the Chiaroscuro lighting (low key lightning) in most of the
scenes. Peg Boggs (Dianne Wiest), a local Avon door to door saleswoman tries to sell her products

One of the most relevant arguments for claiming that the film is good enough to recommend it is
that the film has authorship personality; that is, throughout the movie audience may realise that
there are lots of Burton s characteristic features: such as the visual style, contrasting the pastel
colours (blue, green, orange, and pink) in the houses of Spring Hopes, with the Gothic ones
(mainly black) in Edward s clothes and castle. It seems Edward is brought to the neighbourhood to
show that there is another valid lifestyle; the otherness has to be accepted even though it seems to
be too bizarre at first. Furthermore, the exploration of the otherness and the characters, such as
Edward, who exist outside the boundaries of normality is a topic that is highly relevant, because it
may show the audience that no matter how different a thing is, all that it is important is that is
good enough for you. Edward Scissorhands, summing up, is a good film because it has an interior
meaning, that is, it makes the audience think outside the box, and extract a useful moral from the

Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration
Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for
most of Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well
rounded in many aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a
persuasive politician, glorified military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It
was common ritual for speeches to be given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but
Pericles take on the speech was a little different than the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the
significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the spirits of the fallen soldiers
families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their freedom in
Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed
successful in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but
rather raise their patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor,
freedom, and democracyas a whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and
manipulative speech to capture the fallen spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the
people in the crowd over with a sense of pride over Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique
government for their time, and Pericles takes advantage of his words by proclaiming, Our
constitution does not copy the laws of neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to others than
imitators ourselves. This statement reminds the people of Athens that their community is different
than the surrounding nations, and that they should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of
direction comes into play, though, when Pericles goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they
afford equal justice to all in their private differences...nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man
is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his condition. Comparing this
statement to the laws of the Spartans, it increases even further the sense of patriotism that Pericles
is trying to raise within the crowd. With the Spartans government being very

4-H Positive Youth Development Paper
There are many student programs from which schools can choose to implement in a school year.

and ideas that are addressed include: healthy eating, physical activity, injury prevention, social
emotional health, and the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use (Downey, et al., 2014,
p. 14). By teaching these topics to the youth, they are better able to apply them to their lives and the
decisions they will make concerning their health and well being.
After learning healthy habits in the program, students tend to go home and share what they have
learned with their parents and family. The knowledge that is taught to the youth goes well beyond
their own minds and bodies, but benefits the people around them as well. The 4 H Afterschool
programs seek to not only help the individuals, but their lives as they increase knowledge and
skills necessary for improving physical activity practices and to improve the habits and behaviors
of children, youth, and families (Downey, et al., 2014, p. 14). The goals that have been set forth
should ultimately reduce the health risks that are seen in communities such as obesity and illnesses

The Coexistence Of Good And Evil In Beowulf
Beowulf, is a hundred year old epic poem by an unknown author. It was written down sometime
during the 7th century, and is set during the Anglo Saxon era. The piece follows a Geat named
Beowulf, who journeys to Denmark in order to assist the Danes in vanquishing a terrifying monster.
Beowulf battles the great monster, named Grendel, which results in the Beowulfripping the creature
s arm off. However, peace is not sustained for long, because Beowulf must then fight Grendel s
mother, who attempts to avenge her son s injury. Even after Beowulf defeats the mother, the town
is plagued with more evil. A dragon rages on the Danes, however Beowulf counteracts this evil
because he slays the fire breathing demon. Alas this is Beowulf s final battle, as he dies... Show

In Beowulf, the light is found in the mead hall. However, Tolkien also makes clear goodness can
not exist without evil, and all outside forces want to destroy the happiness. He relates this to the
building of the mead hall, and how its creation calls Grendel into existence. Human civilization
(or heroic warriors) can be seen as light, and Grendel, who is the physical embodiment of
darkness, is the evil trying to destroy mankind. Even after the evil is defeated, one can only hold
back defeat from evil for so long because it always comes back. This concept is similar to the yin

An Essay On Appalachian Culture
Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way
through the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region.
The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The
culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and
avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region
are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders.
Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their
mark in history. According to popular beliefs on Appalachia, many people are led to believe that
Appalachia is a poor and uneducated region. In the town in which I grew up, there is a place in the

What I ve come to see over the years is the lack of respect that we have for the Appalachian
people and the work they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we
need to recognize the craftsmanship that they invest to make things to eat out of or to put
things into. Many of us, like myself, was not born into the Appalachian life but yet it chooses

Michael Lambek s Toward An Ethics Of The Act
In Michael Lambek s Toward an Ethics of the Act, Lambek discusses the ethics of performance and
practice rituals through perlocution and illocution. Anthony Gidden s talks about the duality of
agency (action) and structure and argues that that s two cannot exist without each other. These two
compare and contrast in analyzing social actions. In Toward an Ethics of the Act, Lambek uses the
speeches that are also know as performatives that utter a performance is to do something .
Illocution and perlocution are two of the performatives of speech that Lambek discusses in his work
that are derived from J.L. Austin s philosophy. According to Lambek, Illocution is doing something
in saying something . Perlocution on the other hand, is doing something by saying something .
Lambek uses the terms felicitous and infelicitous from Austin s philosophy to define the illocution

individual s ability to make free choices in society. These choices that they make are not guided by
anything but their own desires, needs and wishes to fulfill. The concept of the agency is free will
and the ability of an individual to make decisions in their world that they want to make as an

but a continuous flow of conduct . Structure on the other hand, is social forces that exist outside of
the individual thoughts that influence the decisions that people make. The structure has a bigger

The United States Vs. United Kingdom
The United States and the United Kingdom have both become industrialized democracies, however
by saying that it may seem as though they have many similarities which is true, but there are many
more differences in the political systems they use and the way the states are governed. Just because
United States and the United Kingdomshare these similarities and differences in their Presidential
System, and the formation of their democracies, the United States is viewed by far as a much
weaker state due to their Presidential System, but this was all deliberate. In Comparative Politics
Domestic Responses to Global Challenges by Charles Hauss the development of the United States
and the United Kingdom becoming democracies are very different. In the late 1700 s moving
toward a democracyhad been building for two hundred years. The New World and the
individualism, capitalism, Protestantism, and scientific revolution, was the new way of thinking.
Thomas Hobbes was one of these thinkers. After his death came the American Revolution. Around
the same time, Adam Smith s book, The Wealth of Nations came out. People began to want
political and economic freedom and with this came laissez faire capitalism, which means allow to
do. There was then two new ideas for democratic thought. First the state should be limited. Second,
rather than telling people how to act in all areas of life, the state should serve as a referee that

The Importance Of Child Labor
We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights
(Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President in order to fight against
the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for

High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to causes
that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of standing up, they all were
fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones was a passionate person who strived to
accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately

and she would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She had tied
the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried, scrambled to find food for
them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and treasured the children (Pinkerton

themselves in order to complete treacherous assignments for little pay, and this broke Mother Jones
s heart. Oftentimes children got hurt in mill accidents, and Mother Jones saw some with their hands

How Darwin Has A Profound Effect Beyond The World Of Science
Darwin once said we all come from monkeys, but not literally. This quote was said by Hal in the
Malcolm in the Middle episode, Flashback. This is one of many examples of how Darwin has
had a profound effect beyond the world of science. Through analysis of several elements of pop
culture, one can see how their underlying themes are related to Darwin. The impact of Darwin s
principles can be seen in video games, literature, and television.
The relevance of Darwin s work can be observed in video games. For example, Darwin s theory of
natural selection can be applied to the general gameplay of PokГ©mon FireRed. Darwin states that
individuals with variations best suited for the habitat survive and reproduce. The protagonist in the

This type of move inheritance is similar to real life traits can be passed down. In a different
example, the Sonic franchise can be analyzed from the developer s point of view. The first Sonic
the Hedgehog game was created in 1991. It was well received because of its groundbreaking colors,
as well as the high speed nature of the game. The Sega company realized that Sonic appealed to a
wide audience, so naturally, future games are going to feature similar characteristics of the original
Sonic game. This concept is comparable to Darwin s idea that a species must survive to pass their
traits to the next generation (Darwin, Foundations 1). Sega essentially implements elements of the
old Sonic games, while at the same time adding new elements to improve the sequels. The theories
of natural selection and heredity provide for a scientific viewpoint of the PokГ©mon and Sonic
franchises beyond the entertainment.
Many literary works portray Darwinan principles. In Jeanne Duprau s The City of Ember, for
instance, a group of scientists known as The Builders create an underground city called Ember,
which has a generator and supplies for the citizens to survive at least 200 years. This city was
intended to protect its inhabitants from impending doom. About 240 years after the creation of this
city, the supplies become scarce, and the generator is decaying. It is up to the central characters,

James Simmons Sonnet For The Class Of 58
Life as the Graduates of the Class of 58
James Simmons poem Sonnet for the Class of 58 displays the conditions and society modern
men live in. The poem develops its idea by giving examples of the graduates lives in adult world
that is completely different from what they expected. As the speaker talks about how the ideal
changes into only basic things in life, his words provoke the reader to think about their lives and
compare them with their lives. The poem suggests the collapse of the ideal that young people have
as they grow older and gain more experiences about reality of life.
The argument is developed through the speaker s attitude toward his friends with realization that
life is not what they expected it to be. In the first line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the poem, life is not easy as the graduates and we thought it would be; there are
obstacles and finally we have to endure and live unhappy. The poem teaches us about cruelty of
real world that breaks our hopes and ideals; this cruelty is a consequence of society that people have
to compete with others. After graduation, the graduates dream big, expect to chaste their dreams
and to be successful. They also have moral principles in life and think that they will never break
their own rule, but modern life doesn t allow them to do that, and then they stuck in the unhappy
modern world as we can see in the poem. Only when they are drunk, life seem as it once seemed
(8); this is a condition of people who have to drink to be happy and forget their miserable life,
and we can see through alcohol sales that people really need to drink to gain their happiness. In
addition, ideal everybody has seems to be destroyed when they grow up, and even people who
are very successful and have power are disappointed with what they have become. This approach
can be seen in the couplet: even those who ve gained more power and sense/ feel sorry when
they feel the difference (13 14). Here the poem suggests that the society crushes their dreams and it
relates to the conditions of the society; people have to fight with energy crisis and weak currency.
Facing these problems to make a living, people are stressful and quit their expectations, and it leads
to the collapse of their ideal. Finally the graduates only want what they think they can

Companzees Speak Cognitively Using American Sign Language
In Thinking without Language, author Herbert S. Terrace suggested that thinking was still possible
without language. Terrace conducted Project Nim, a research study that was aimed at
understanding whether chimpanzees could actually speak cognitively using American Sign
Language. Next, Terrace stated that Nim could combine words, in the same repeat pattern, which
mimicked the way young children first develop speech. However, Nim was only able to produce
results from imitating his instructor. Nim was unable to move beyond imitation to follow the
standard development of language; but he did show clear thought in processing the learning tasks.
Terrace confirmed his hypothesis by testing monkeys with a series of 7 photos that they had to
place in the correct order by trial and error. Overtime, the monkeys could produce the correct
patterns and showed improvement in using logically thinking. Thus, Terrace s experiment proved
you can still think without language. Commentary: After reading Thinking without... Show more

Russel T Hurlburt (2011) expressed that, unsymbolized thinking is the experience of differentiated
thought that does not include the experience of words (Hurlburt, para. 3). To compare, this

thoughts guide us to find answers and to use other ways to learn the answer (Hurlburt, 2011).
This means that if given a problem, we use our minds to find a way to think through an action to
solve it. Lana and Sarah, in Rumbaugh s and Premack s studies, were able to learn which objects

The Impact Of Financial Development On Society s...
Cagetti and Nardi (2006) argue that financial development is beneficial to the individuals who have
higher ability to make investment and then become the entrepreneurs. In contrast, the individuals
who are relatively more common could not make human investment and then become the workers.
Therefore, the whole society s inequality gap will be widen. Maurer and Haber (2003) suggest that
in the process of financial liberalization and financial deepening, the financing channels for low
income people are not have effectively developed, and the difficulties for financing are not have
substantial progress. On the contrary, the rich have more capital and convenience to get access into

A Biography of No Place: From Ethnic Borderland to Soviet Heartland by Kate Brown, reveals
Stalinism and Nazi history from the perspective of those subjected by the ethnic purification and
imposition of nationalism in the borderland region in the Ukraine, known as the Marchlevsk or
Kresy. There is a sense of conflict in the interwar years. Brown notes that throughout the interwar
period, Ukrainians had been accusing Poles of skewing the census to minimize the Ukrainian
population in the Kresy, which is the eastern half of Poland that was seized by the USSR in 1939.
In 1922, Poles living in the Soviet Union accused Ukrainian officials of deliberately undercounting
the Polish population of the western parts of the Soviet Ukraine border.Furthermore, Brown argues
that gender and class were vital in crafting regional identity, she notes that they were: tied to
locality, class, profession and social status, rather than to nationality. The Marchlevsk Polish
Autonomous Region in the Soviet Ukraine demonstrates the complexity of nationality, and the
ambiguity of any line dividing Poles from Ukrainians since around seventy percent of population
Marchlevsk was nominally Polish . According to Jan T. Gross, the most important structural feature
of the twentieth century totalitarianism is the privatization of the public domain. Gross

Essay on Factors Leading to The Collapse of Past Societies
At present day, our worldwide civilization of the human race continues to surpass many
achievements of other past societies. Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved
and the population is growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past
civilizations and analyze them to understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of
progress, human societies create problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to
solve, for fear of short term losses in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements
and sometimes leads to collapse.1 Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into
progress traps and ultimately contributed to the collapse of those... Show more content on

Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their
competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s
collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization
had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political
instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s
history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The
assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after
Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion
and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of
crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding
political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts
in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their
oppressive leaders. Revolting peasants dug into an emperors tomb, stole weapons from his
Terracotta army, and used them to overthrow the existing emperors at the time. Although initially
viewed as a positive event, the overthrowing of their own leaders proved to have a devastating

Japan Defense Essay
The year of 2016 marks dramatic changes in Japan s defense and military actions. According to
the Annual White Paper of Japan s Ministry of Defense, Japan has been facing changes of its
neighboring countries military operations in 2016. Due to North Korea s military provocations,
China s aggression in the North China Sea, Russia s fortified marine and air forces, and
beheaded of two Japanese civilians by the ISIS, the Ministry of Defense (MOD) and the Self
Defense Forces (SDF) have to take up the responsibility of maintaining the well being of Japanese
civilians and security of Japan s territories. Therefore, the Diet passed the legislation for peace and
security and put it into force in March 2016, attempting to construct a better... Show more content

Facing Searching for international allies to counter China s aggression and North Korea s
missile program, Japan started to build up a stronger military and diplomatic tie with the
Philippines as early as in January when Japan s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited
several war memorials to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Japan Philippines diplomatic
normalization. During the visit, the Emperor expressed his renewed sense of sorrow to the
victims of the WWII at war memorials. The imperial couple is known to be aware of Imperial
Japan s past and stated that Japan should not forget the damage it has caused to people from home
and abroad. However, considering the growing military tie between Tokyo and Manila, this visit
might also be a result from the Japan Philippine alliance against China s recent aggressive acts in
the South China sea. Since Japan and the Philippines are seeking a reliable partner besides the
United States in the Asian Pacific region, the military alliance between the two countries will
benefit both sides in terms of national security. Not long after the visit, in February Japan planned
to sign an accord with the Philippines which allows Tokyo to supply military equipments to Manila.
Although the Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin stated

Analysis of Bluewater Shopping Centre
1,Bluewater Shopping Centre, based in Greenhithe, Kent, is used by many people on a daily
basis to get their everyday needs and presents for their loved ones. It is 150,000m2 containing 330
UK and international brands and 50 restaurants and bars. It also has 13,000 parking spaces
surrounding it with 20 hectares of parkland and 7 lakes, so is not like any other shopping centre in
England. (Bluewater, 2008) Below; (BBC/Lion TV, Telegraph, 2012)
2,The idea of Bluewater was developed in 1994 when quarry operator Blue Circle approached
Lend Lease to form a partnership. Construction then started on May 1st 1996 and when it opened

4b,Another way that technology can have an impact on technology is with the technology that
is becoming the new phase in the United States. For example virtual greeters are lately being
assessed in the customer market to see how customers respond which if well will soon be
brought to the UK. Virtual greeters are said to be a lot cheaper to run than to pay employees
which is obviously attracting the business owners as they believe they will save money and
make more profit. Another technology that is being tested is the advice giving mirrors; these
can be used by makeup stools, clothes stores and other personal grooming stores. The mirror will
save companies having to pay employees to give customers advice as the mirror will do it. A
bonus of the mirrors is that a customer can simply hold an outfit up to the mirror and the mirror
will suggest accessories to go with the outfit, although when the mirror is not being used by
customers the retailers can play advertisements or videos via the mirror. Another technology that is
going to affect Bluewater is touch screens; these can be put into stores for customers to compare
different products that are in store without having to search the store itself. This product will be
mostly found in phone stores and retailers that sell more than one brand of the same product, for
example Boots or Superdrug with makeup. (Girard, L,

Civil Service Benefits
Requiring all high school students to spend one year in service after high school is an amazing
idea. A civil service is a great way to teach young adults responsibility and rigor. Civil service
teaches students great responsibilities like tending to wounds and learning how to care for
yourself, as well as others. young adults often have jobs other than just to protect our country in
the civil service, they often clean, serve food, and much more. These jobs are put in place to
teach these new soldiers rigor in their daily tasks that can be put in place for future jobs, therefore
congress should definitely pass this law. In addition to giving some students an idea of what they
would like to do for the rest of their lives, civil service opens... Show more content on

Often learning trial and error, most young adults haven t learned how to take care of themselves.
Not to mention the fact that being in the civil service is highly dangerous. Some families would
be very upset if their child died in the service because they were forced to go there. The
population would significantly decrease if this law was issued because millions of heroes die
every year being in the civil service, and as of now only males are on a list to go. Some student
just aren t in good enough physical shape to join the civil service and may require more effort/time
to be in peak physical shape instructors would like. This would waste valuable time in training than
just letting those students go off to college. Because some students would like to be in fields
requiring many years of school and don t have time to serve in the civil service, only certain young
adults should be required to the civil service for a year. So all together, I think Congress should
pass this law, but put stricter limitations on who has to go into the civil service for a year because
students haven t learned valuable life skills and some have important careers to attend

Negative Long term Effects of Advertising
Advertisements are a way to promote sales of a product or service through visual communication.
Magazine covers, advertisements or any publication embed a set of ideologies. O Shaughnessy and
Standler describe ideologies as sets of social values, ideas, beliefs, feelings and representations by
which people collectively make sense of the world they live in (2012; 174). Ideologies try to
manipulate people into buying a way of life as well as goods (Dyer, 1982:5). Adverts such as the
Pravda vodkaexample above, which appeared in the January 2014 issue of GLAMOUR
magazine add relevance to a product whether it s a certain trend, desire or mutual value in order
for the product to become a highly favoured commodity. Glamour magazine is popular amoungst
young women of all races who are middle class citizens. This specific advert was used to
introduce Pravda s new vodka range aimed at women. It communicates ideologies of feminism,
class, leisure, night life and enjoyment. The purpose of this essay is to use semiology to analyse
the attached article. The Advertiser, should do more than just label or identify the product; it
should also bring flattering associations to mind, associations which will help to sell it. (Dyer,
1982:141) and that is where semiology comes into play.
Semiology is the study of signs and sign systems (O Shaughnessy Standler, 2012). The history of
semiology is further explained and the main cause of intercession: Semiology originated at the end

Polar Express Psychology
Innocence, trust, truth, and calmness are all different feelings that one might have or encounter
in their life. Most of these feelings are felt as a child and as a parent more often. Blue is
conservative and calming in a positive aspect. But blue can also relate to sadness, lonely, cold, or
depressing, in a more negative way. You feel these things when you feel betrayed, lied to, or the
loss of a loved one. Blue can stimulate so many feelings depending on a situation. The Polar
Express and the poem The Side of Truthstimulate different feelings when read but they are
intertwined in some aspects. Though written in different centuries, The Polar Express and the poem

The blue seen in the movie suggests the truth of hero boy s thoughts, and confusion.
Archetypally, blue is contemplated as reserved and quiet, and doesn t like to make a fuss or
draw attention (Color Psychology Web). The film embodies these exact feelings in hero boy. He
is reserved and quite and doesn t draw attention to himself on the train and tries to stay low during
the trip. However, the most significant reference to blue throughout the film is his blue robe,
which represents the reserved person he is because of his beliefs. The train is also exemplifies the
truth that he can only decide for him self what he truly wants to believe in.
Thomas begins with truth and ends the poem with love , there is the silly level of tension simply
the reason in the side of truth, that all will resolve into a unjudging truth which weakens the idea
of truth itself. Truth is not essentially not false . Just like in The Polar Express, it is not a film
that convinces young children to believe in the big man it paints a bigger a picture, to believe in
what you think is true and believe with all your heart and not let others convince you, you are

Biblical Viewpoint Genesis 2:24 (NIV) says, That is why a man leaves his father and mother
and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Males and females are different but God
made them different for the purpose of completion and unity rather than any sort of domination
over one another. God created men and women to be partners and to reflect his love. Genesis 1:27
(NIV) says, So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male

Women are not statistically a minority, but due to the nature of society they are considered a
political demographic. Slowly but surely, women are making their way into the American

goes to show the headway women are making in politics, but there is still more to be done.
According to the Parliamentary Union, America ranks 58th in women s political leadership

where they rank amongst women in political leadership. It is time for voters and politicians to step

Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg
Introduction
An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph
over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and
recorded by a device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various
things initiated by the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible
enlargement. For a healthy individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart
beat which includes a P wave (Atrial depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization),
and a T wave (Ventricular repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the
Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from
the atria to the ventricles is conducted by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart
beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are
placed by the machine and then translated into a linear representation (Boundless). The resting
membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+
and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to contract. This action takes place during
the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex represent when the left and right
ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole. This action normally takes place
at the highest amplitude in the complex,

there and thinking of all that I had seen on the tour and feeling completely at home. It also ironic
because I am in that very class this semester. It is so crazy how much can change in one year.

month equals six regular months. This is a quote from one of my all time favorite books, Fangirl,

trustee of a discretionary trust formed in 1974 for the Hayward family. Minter Ellison Morris
Fletcher s (Minters) had been acting for EC Consolidated Capital Limited (ECCCL) since July
1991, all work in connection with the drafting of the documents relating to the subscription for
preference shares in ECCCL was dealt with by Minters. As part of the subscription agreement
Youyang deposited $500,000 in Minters trust account. Minters was entitled to release a section
of the fund from the trust account to ECCCL for the purchase of a bearer deposit certificate to
be issued by Dresdner International Financial Markets (Australia) Ltd (DAL), which could then
be traded on the money market. When the certificate was obtained Minters then had the right to
release the remainder of the funds to ECCCL based on the subscription agreement. On the 24th
of September 1993 a letter was sent by DAL addressed to ECCCL in confirmation of the
payment of $256,800 from Minters trust account for the term of 10 years with repayment of US
$500,000 at maturity representing $256,800 principal and interest of AUD 243,200. This letter

Since the company is considering a large technology upgrade, I have included two possible laptop

is exploring the option of switching primarily to Apple products. The first option (option A) is a
combination of a Lenovo laptopand Samsung Galaxy Note 8 mobile phone. The second option is a
combination of the iPad Pro and iPhone8. Either option would suit my needs well and could be
chosen based upon if the company switches to Apple or stays with the PC/Android based products.

The chosen computer is the iPad Pro tablet. Functioning as such, the iPad Pro is light, portable,
and has a long lasting battery, suitable for longer trips required for the position. It has a standard
RAM of 256 GB and a quick processor at 2.4GHz with a clear resolution screen that will make
completing tasks easier and faster.
I have also chosen to complete the iPad Pro with the additional keyboard, as it is not included with
the machine (unlike the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510). This is an additional cost, but necessary to
complete the job.
In addition to the computer and keyboard for option B, I have chosen the iPhone 8. The
connectivity between two devices will make transferring information from one to the other
effortless and easy to manage. The iPhone 8 has a faster CPU, which is nearly 70% faster than its
predecessor and this difference means that I will be able to have decision making information for
our customers. While upfront costs are quite substantial, the necessity of a phone is essential.
Above is the comparison table between the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510 and the Apple iPad Pro.
While both computers are impressive, upon further inspection, the Lenovo has a larger screen and
an impressive RAM capability, yet it does not have the battery life of the iPad Pro. However, as
noted before, there is an additional processor. It also has Bluetooth capability that will allow
communication between phone and computer, quite similar to Apple/Mac s feature mentioned

Differences In Blue Penguin By Dr. Seuss And Blue Penguins
Discrimination has been present in society since ancient times. Discrimination is the theme of the
books, The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss and Blue Penguin by Petr HorГЎДЌek.
These two books with a difference of more than fifty years show us, as some of its characters, Blue
Penguin from the book Blue penguin, and a group of plain belly Sneetches from the book The
Sneetches and Other Stories are similarly discriminated, but they face the situation differently. Blue
penguin accepts himself and the plain belly Sneetches, unlike the blue penguin, try to be like the
star belly Sneetches.
The story of the Sneetches and the story of the Blue penguin are both charming. One was written in
1961 and the other in 2015. Both stories with their wonderful characters teach us about the
influence of discrimination. The sneetches made a mistake trying to change their appearances to fit
in the society in which they lived but in the end, both stories showed that it is never too late to
change and begin to accept others and more important to accept ourselves. On the other hand, there
is the story of the blue penguin who was a strong penguin but he was constantly discriminated by
the other penguins to the point of wanting to leave the South Pole. Blue Penguin never wanted to
change its appearance or its way of being, unlike the sneetches he always accepted himself. as a
result, the other penguins had to accept him the way he was.
In the book Blue penguin , Petr HorГЎДЌek

The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story
A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost
story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and emotions don t come easily for me,
but add this gloomy weather to the after holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the
perfect song on the radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is
unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is the ghosts were real. They
were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are
always there.
Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and
ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create
freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to
another level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot
be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have
been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know
what I said. I know what I did. I know where I ve been. I know the power I have over others, and
I know I haven t always wielded it responsibly. I know how to inflict pain. When something hurts
me, I know how to hurt it 10 fold in return via my words, action, or violence, but the words are what
haunt me the most. The

The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Essay
The Struggle in Crime and Punishment
Reading this book makes you ill because from the beginning to the end you watch as psychological
forces eat away at the thoughts and actions of their victim causing him to finally confess to the
hideous crime he has committed. The story is basically the struggle between Raskolnikov s
Napoleon Гјbermensch theory and his conscience which make him confess to his crime. Dostoevsky
s genius is in describing how Raskolnikov struggles in his thoughts and actions. His thoughts
become increasingly disjointed and desperate and his actions show that he has an increasing need
to escape the uncertainty of being convicted, to talk about the crime, to confess, and to suffer for
his crime. It is even at times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lets the criminal incriminate himself. It s uncanny how Profiry manages to keep Raskolnikov
hovering around him until he finally confesses it s also uncanny to realize how natural it is for
Raskolnikov to come under Porfiry s psychological spell. This leads to a central question of the
book: are laws just abitrary human constructs or are there psychological laws which govern our
behavior in societies. Raskolnikov believes (as he wrote in his article) that people can rise above
human laws as Napoleon did, but Profiry (and Dostoevsky) believe otherwise:
What is running away? it s merely formal; the point isn t that he won t run away because he has
nowhere to run to, but that psychologically he won t escape, he, he! What an expression! By a
law of his nature he wouldn t escape, even if he had somewhere to escape to. Have you ever seen
a moth with a candle? Well, he ll be just like that, he ll circle round me as if I were a candle:
Freedom will no longer be a boon to him; he will begin to brood, he will get himself into a
muddle, entangle his own feet in a net, and worry himself to death! . . . More than that, he
himself will provide me with a mathematical proof, of the nature of two and two make four if
only I allow a long enough interval between the acts of the drama . . . And he ll keep on, keep on
circling round me, closer and closer, and then, plop! he ll fly straight into my mouth and

  • 2. The Lyme Disease Lyme disease has been identified as an infection surrounded by complications, starting from its discovery to diagnosis. The Lyme infection was discovered first during the mid 1970, following the attribution of juvenile arthritis outbreak to this disease near Old Lyme, Connecticut. The naming of the disease was established in 1977, although the complications of the causative agent lasted an additional five years, after which medical scientists identified the deer tickmidgut Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete as the supposed causative agent (Lyme Research Alliance, n.d.). In the US, the illness is the most prevalent of all tick borne infections. The disease has been termed in New York, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Maryland an endemic infection. As of 2009, provides the most useful data regarding the infection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recorded an approximation of confirmed Lyme disease cases ranging up to 30,000 new cases. The basic complication of Lyme disease possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Disseminated Lyme disease symptoms are most prevalent in victims of either misdiagnosis or total lack of prior diagnosis. The difficulty at this stage prevails with the nature of the symptoms, which could be confusing because of the nature of being persistent or transient (California Lyme Disease Association, n.d.). The disease finally sets in the chronic stage, characterized by a late infection that is persistent. However, the complication of the Lyme disease at this point is connected to the lack of universal recognition of the condition, even by experts in infectious disease. Thus, the diagnosis of Lyme disease becomes a controversial presentation (Lyme Research Alliance, n.d.). The chronic stage notably takes up to months and at times years to appear following initial bites by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How The Geographical, Governmental, And Human Development... Those considered poor in developing countries often lack the fundamental access to buy adequate food, water, or other basic needs. Although recent World Bank data has revealed that world poverty has declined 43 percent since 1990 and 52 percent since 1981, poverty is still a worldwide phenomenon that is prevalent even among the most highly industrialized countries . Presently, according to World Bank data, 1.22 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day in 2010 and 2.4 billion people live on less than US $2 a day in 2010. This is almost half of the world s population. The scope of this study is limited somewhat because povertyis a multidimensional concept in which a voluminous number of factors can be causally related to this phenomenon. Therefore, this research will seek to answer what impact does the geographical, governmental, and human development characteristics have on the rate of poverty in developing countries. 2. LITERATURE REVIEW The existence of poverty is as old as time itself, and still perplexes scholars of the world today. The conceptualization of poverty is a multifaceted phenomenon in which varying factors contribute to this worldwide problem. Thus, six arguments of poverty will warrant closer examination: including culture, gender inequality, economic growth, geographical region, human development, and government. First, scholars that link culture to poverty argue those countries that are inherently poor must change their prevailing customs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. What Is The Snapchat-Personal Narrative When March 5th finally arrived we had a lot of preparations to tend to. We were pretty sure the Mack s would leave at night, they told Alex they had a family birthday party to go to. Unlike past Fight Nights no invitations were sent out, everyone was invited. We posted Alex s address on all forms of social media that morning. I then went to Alex s in the middle of the afternoon to help him set up for the night. We moved couches, and set up the basement for optimal viewing. Now all we had to do was wait for the Macks to leave. We hung around the house for the rest of the day but right around dinner time I left to make it less obvious and met Katie Peters and Hannah Bouas at subway for dinner. Alex was going to call me whenever his parents left... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We expected that the only fight that night would be Chandler vs. Brendan, that was definitely not the case. Before the main event there were six other fights. We had attracted a lot of the seniors to Fight Night X and they were definitely down for fighting. These minor fights included, Alex Mack vs. Zach Diecker, Luke Worley vs. Blake Metcalf, Max Kemper vs. Collin Goveia, Michael Smith vs. Austin Sweet, Square vs Joe Wolf, Bryce Rutledge vs. Parker McDonald all leading up to the main event. Will Hogan had been taking cash bets throughout the night and Brendan was the heavy favorite. (Our event had turned from an underground fight club to an underground fight club with illegal gambling) Brendan was the favorite due to his size and the fact that he was getting shipped off to Army basic training in just a few months. But, he was a wild card, like I stated earlier he was not part of our friend group so we had never seen him fight. This was unlike Chandler who was a Fight Night veteran with a side of batshit crazy when it came to wrestling. After a crowd pumping introduction from Joe Wolf the most historic fight in Fight Night history was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Civil War Reconstruction Essays The period after the Civil War was a very difficult time in the United States history. This time was known as the Reconstruction period and it was a very controversial time. There were many issues that had to be addressed such as what to do with the free blacks in the south and how states would be readmitted to the Union. This era saw the rise of the Radical Republicans. The government was going through changes, southerners were going through changes, and blacks were going through changes. Whites in the south were left without people to work their plantations. Slavery was indeed a very important topic during this time. Many of the reconstructionplans that were proposed required states to prohibit slavery in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson s Plan had nothing to say about the rights of blacks after the war. Most Northern Democrats favored Johnson s Plan. However Southerners were not so impressed. Many of the southern states accepted Johnson s plan but some of them attacked the black rights issue. Some states would not ratify the thirteenth amendment. None of the southern states would allow blacks to vote. In late 1865 the southern states revised their slave codes into what became know as the black codes. This basically stripped blacks of every right and justice that was due to them. Since Johnson s plan did not address the rights and liberties of blacks, the southern states took it into their own hands to create their own laws regarding blacks. When Congress met again they began to fight for the rights of blacks. They responded to the black codes by passing the Civil Rights Act of 1866. President Johnson vetoed the bill but Congress overruled his veto with a 2/3 majority vote. Congress view of President Johnson began to deteriorate. The Military Reconstruction Acts did not go over well with President Johnson. He vetoed the bill, however the Radical Republicans passed it over Johnson s veto. These acts began in 1867 and began what was known as Radical Reconstruction. Under this plan the south was divided into five districts. • 7. Lousy Sex Summary The article The Opposite Sex: with Lisa May Stevens excerpted from the book Lousy Sex, by Gerald N. Callahan dives deep into the concept of gender that we humans have deemed a taboo subject. This article sought to question what gender is and why humans feel the need to have it. Callahan explores other species that ignore our strict rules regarding genderand thrive just the same. This article was extremely fascinating and helped me to open up my perception as to what gender truly is. It was also surprising to me that so many other people are confused as to what gender really is. Humans have tried so hard to make gender black and white, but it is often more flowing and unique to each person. Gender is an amazingly interesting topic that seeks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gender nonconformity that Lisa May has, was obviously not something that Lisa May chose, but is something that she has to live with and hopefully can love. I was surprised to hear that Lisa May lives in Fort Collins, as a lot of the people here are what most would classify as hegemonic America. I am so appreciative of people who dare to identify as something different and people like Lisa May, who wear these differences on the outside. I appreciated this article s description of Lisa May and the way it showed her humanness and I can now understand that we have more similarities than differences. One of the quotes in the article that really stuck with me was when Lisa May said, I d rather people see me as sexy than as a dog dressed up. Not only is this very strong language with a lot of imagery, but it really makes others think about their actions. To think of any women calling herself a dog is heartbreaking and is something that should never go through their minds. What is even more unsettling is that in the case of Lisa May people feel as though they have the right to see her differences as ugly. It then makes sense that May would feel as though she would have to do extra. People like Lisa May will probably always be noticed first in a room, but that doesn t necessarily have to be a ... • 8. Encoding Specificity Background For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information is studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on paper, computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this could have an effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of information. Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be retrieved that has been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored . What they are saying is information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of encoding and recall. Based on this principle it is possible that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In that experiment they where testing recognition memory. A normal college test doesn t just test for recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in other studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers recall more words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and Baddeley 1975). This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding specificity principle. The medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test score will be higher if the medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking at associative memory context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or weak association, they then had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971). They summarized their results saying, with availability of stored information held constant, recognition of a previously seen item depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition being higher if test context matches the input context than if the input context is removed or altered. Here a different form of context aids recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the same type of extrinsic context as the environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980) experiment on recognition memory on scuba ... Finally, the paper concludes with some overall comments regarding gas policy in Vietnam. II. Overview of Vietnam s gas industry Natural gas is a critical source of energy for Vietnam, and it plays an important role in the nation s energy economy. BMI reports that natural gas is the second biggest primary energy provider, accounting for 18 percent of the nation s energy, followed by coal and hydroelectric power. It is expected that the use of gas will increase to account for 31 percent of Vietnam s primary energy demand, and oil demand will be down to 38 percent. 3 Vietnam s natural gas industry has developed a long way from its initial small onshore field located in Thai Binh province, south of Haiphong, in the 1970s. Today there are three major reserve basins located in southern Vietnam Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, and Malay Tho Chu which supply the power generation and fertilizer projects currently under operation. • 11. Poe s Perception Of Himself In The Tell Tale Heart In a work of literature the perception, or opinion on something, will vary from the reader to the narrator. The play The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator kills a man because of his vulture like eye. The narrator views himself as a sane and smart individual because of his actions. The narrator s perception of himself differs quite a lot from those of the reader as they interpret his actions differently, leading them to think he is mentally deranged. Poe s writing style contributes to these perceptions of the narrator. The speaker of the text thinks of himself as a sane and smart individual. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1). This example supports the speaker s view of himself as it shows he does not think he s mad. He believes a mad person could not describe or tell the story of what he did healthily and calmly , but because he can he must be sane. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded with what caution with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poe uses repetition to emphasize some things the speaker did. In favor of the readers perception of the speaker, Poe writes it as if the speaker was telling the story directly to the readers. This contributes to the thought that the narrator is mentally deranged because because Poe s tone and choice of words make the speaker sound as if he was not affected, until the end, by the event. She believes that her friend does not deserve the treatment that has been served to her; so she speaks out on her problems reversing the roles placed on them both. As Desdemona begins to settle into the housewife settings, she calls upon Iago and Emilia recalls most of the event to her husband herself. • 22. Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for most of Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well rounded in many aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a persuasive politician, glorified military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It was common ritual for speeches to be given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but Pericles take on the speech was a little different than the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the spirits of the fallen soldiers families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their freedom in Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed successful in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but rather raise their patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor, freedom, and democracyas a whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and manipulative speech to capture the fallen spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the people in the crowd over with a sense of pride over Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique government for their time, and Pericles takes advantage of his words by proclaiming, Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to others than imitators ourselves. This statement reminds the people of Athens that their community is different than the surrounding nations, and that they should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of direction comes into play, though, when Pericles goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences...nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his condition. • 33. The Importance Of Child Labor We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Bealsworked alongside eight others to help integrate Little Rock s Central High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to causes that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately told a reporter (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was always there for the children that she met, and she would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried, scrambled to find food for them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and treasured the children (Pinkerton Josephson). • 34. How Darwin Has A Profound Effect Beyond The World Of Science Darwin once said we all come from monkeys, but not literally. This quote was said by Hal in the Malcolm in the Middle episode, Flashback. This is one of many examples of how Darwin has had a profound effect beyond the world of science. Through analysis of several elements of pop culture, one can see how their underlying themes are related to Darwin. The impact of Darwin s principles can be seen in video games, literature, and television. The relevance of Darwin s work can be observed in video games. For example, Darwin s theory of natural selection can be applied to the general gameplay of PokГ©mon FireRed. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game was created in 1991. It was well received because of its groundbreaking colors, as well as the high speed nature of the game. The Sega company realized that Sonic appealed to a wide audience, so naturally, future games are going to feature similar characteristics of the original Sonic game. This concept is comparable to Darwin s idea that a species must survive to pass their traits to the next generation (Darwin, Foundations 1). Sega essentially implements elements of the old Sonic games, while at the same time adding new elements to improve the sequels. The theories of natural selection and heredity provide for a scientific viewpoint of the PokГ©mon and Sonic franchises beyond the entertainment. Many literary works portray Darwinan principles. In Jeanne Duprau s The City of Ember, for instance, a group of scientists known as The Builders create an underground city called Ember, which has a generator and supplies for the citizens to survive at least 200 years. The poem develops its idea by giving examples of the graduates lives in adult world that is completely different from what they expected. As the speaker talks about how the ideal changes into only basic things in life, his words provoke the reader to think about their lives and compare them with their lives. The poem suggests the collapse of the ideal that young people have as they grow older and gain more experiences about reality of life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the poem, life is not easy as the graduates and we thought it would be; there are obstacles and finally we have to endure and live unhappy. The poem teaches us about cruelty of real world that breaks our hopes and ideals; this cruelty is a consequence of society that people have to compete with others. After graduation, the graduates dream big, expect to chaste their dreams and to be successful. They also have moral principles in life and think that they will never break their own rule, but modern life doesn t allow them to do that, and then they stuck in the unhappy modern world as we can see in the poem. Only when they are drunk, life seem as it once seemed (8); this is a condition of people who have to drink to be happy and forget their miserable life, and we can see through alcohol sales that people really need to drink to gain their happiness. In addition, ideal everybody has seems to be destroyed when they grow up, and even people who are very successful and have power are disappointed with what they have become. This approach can be seen in the couplet: even those who ve gained more power and sense/ feel sorry when they feel the difference (13 14). Here the poem suggests that the society crushes their dreams and it relates to the conditions of the society; people have to fight with energy crisis and weak currency. Facing these problems to make a living, people are stressful and quit their expectations, and it leads to the collapse of their ideal. Finally the graduates only want what they think they can ... Terrace conducted Project Nim, a research study that was aimed at understanding whether chimpanzees could actually speak cognitively using American Sign Language. Next, Terrace stated that Nim could combine words, in the same repeat pattern, which mimicked the way young children first develop speech. However, Nim was only able to produce results from imitating his instructor. Nim was unable to move beyond imitation to follow the standard development of language; but he did show clear thought in processing the learning tasks. Terrace confirmed his hypothesis by testing monkeys with a series of 7 photos that they had to place in the correct order by trial and error. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Among those, political instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion and trade disruption. Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg Introduction An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole. One option is Apple products, the other is not, as the company is exploring the option of switching primarily to Apple products. The first option (option A) is a combination of a Lenovo laptopand Samsung Galaxy Note 8 mobile phone. The second option is a combination of the iPad Pro and iPhone8. Either option would suit my needs well and could be chosen based upon if the company switches to Apple or stays with the PC/Android based products. The computer in option A is the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510. The features that this computer owns include a large screen and the capability of using the machine as a laptop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chosen computer is the iPad Pro tablet. Functioning as such, the iPad Pro is light, portable, and has a long lasting battery, suitable for longer trips required for the position. It has a standard RAM of 256 GB and a quick processor at 2.4GHz with a clear resolution screen that will make completing tasks easier and faster. I have also chosen to complete the iPad Pro with the additional keyboard, as it is not included with the machine (unlike the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510). This is an additional cost, but necessary to complete the job. In addition to the computer and keyboard for option B, I have chosen the iPhone 8. The connectivity between two devices will make transferring information from one to the other effortless and easy to manage. The iPhone 8 has a faster CPU, which is nearly 70% faster than its predecessor and this difference means that I will be able to have decision making information for our customers. While upfront costs are quite substantial, the necessity of a phone is essential. Above is the comparison table between the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 510 and the Apple iPad Pro. While both computers are impressive, upon further inspection, the Lenovo has a larger screen and an impressive RAM capability, yet it does not have the battery life of the iPad Pro. However, as noted before, there is an additional processor. It also has Bluetooth capability that will allow communication between phone and computer, quite similar to Apple/Mac s feature mentioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Differences In Blue Penguin By Dr. Seuss And Blue Penguins Discrimination has been present in society since ancient times. Discrimination is the theme of the books, The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss and Blue Penguin by Petr HorГЎДЌek. These two books with a difference of more than fifty years show us, as some of its characters, Blue Penguin from the book Blue penguin, and a group of plain belly Sneetches from the book The Sneetches and Other Stories are similarly discriminated, but they face the situation differently. Blue penguin accepts himself and the plain belly Sneetches, unlike the blue penguin, try to be like the star belly Sneetches. The story of the Sneetches and the story of the Blue penguin are both charming. One was written in 1961 and the other in 2015. Both stories with their wonderful characters teach us about the influence of discrimination. The sneetches made a mistake trying to change their appearances to fit in the society in which they lived but in the end, both stories showed that it is never too late to change and begin to accept others and more important to accept ourselves. On the other hand, there is the story of the blue penguin who was a strong penguin but he was constantly discriminated by the other penguins to the point of wanting to leave the South Pole. Blue Penguin never wanted to change its appearance or its way of being, unlike the sneetches he always accepted himself. as a result, the other penguins had to accept him the way he was. • 54. The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and emotions don t come easily for me, but add this gloomy weather to the after holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the perfect song on the radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is the ghosts were real. They were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are always there. Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to another level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know what I said. I know what I did. I know where I ve been. I know the power I have over others, and I know I haven t always wielded it responsibly. I know how to inflict pain. When something hurts me, I know how to hurt it 10 fold in return via my words, action, or violence, but the words are what haunt me the most. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Essay The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Reading this book makes you ill because from the beginning to the end you watch as psychological forces eat away at the thoughts and actions of their victim causing him to finally confess to the hideous crime he has committed. The story is basically the struggle between Raskolnikov s Napoleon Гјbermensch theory and his conscience which make him confess to his crime. Dostoevsky s genius is in describing how Raskolnikov struggles in his thoughts and actions. His thoughts become increasingly disjointed and desperate and his actions show that he has an increasing need to escape the uncertainty of being convicted, to talk about the crime, to confess, and to suffer for his crime. It is even at times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He lets the criminal incriminate himself. It s uncanny how Profiry manages to keep Raskolnikov hovering around him until he finally confesses it s also uncanny to realize how natural it is for Raskolnikov to come under Porfiry s psychological spell. This leads to a central question of the book: are laws just abitrary human constructs or are there psychological laws which govern our behavior in societies. Raskolnikov believes (as he wrote in his article) that people can rise above human laws as Napoleon did, but Profiry (and Dostoevsky) believe otherwise: What is running away? it s merely formal; the point isn t that he won t run away because he has nowhere to run to, but that psychologically he won t escape, he, he! What an expression! By a law of his nature he wouldn t escape, even if he had somewhere to escape to. Have you ever seen a moth with a candle? Well, he ll be just like that, he ll circle round me as if I were a candle: Freedom will no longer be a boon to him; he will begin to brood, he will get himself into a muddle, entangle his own feet in a net, and worry himself to death! . . . More than that, he himself will provide me with a mathematical proof, of the nature of two and two make four if only I allow a long enough interval between the acts of the drama . . . And he ll keep on, keep on circling round me, closer and closer, and then, plop! he ll fly straight into my mouth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
