The Jealous Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights Essay
The Jealous Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights
Throughout Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff s personality could be defined as dark, menacing, and
brooding. He is a dangerous character, with rapidly changing moods, capable of deep seeded hatred,
and incapable, it seems, of any kind of forgiveness or compromise. In the first 33 chapters, the text
clearly establishes Heathcliff as an untamed, volatile, wild man and establishes his great love of
Catherine and her usage of him as the source of his ill humor and resentment towards many other
characters. However, there are certain tensions, contradictions, and ambiguities present in Chapter 34
that establish the true intensity Heathcliff s feelings towards Catherine; feelings so ... Show more

He refuses to eat, absents himself from the company of Cathy, Hareton, or Nelly, disappears
inexplicably for long intervals of time and refuses to explain his absences. Most disturbing, his strange
excitement continues, causing discomfort to all those around him, especially Nelly. When Nelly asks
him where he was the night before his he began to exhibit this odd elation, he tells her, Last night, I
was on the threshold of hell. To day I am within sight of my heaven I have my eyes on it hardly three
feet to sever me (278)! His statement is ambiguous it does little to explain his sudden change of humor
and little to satisfy Nelly s curiosity and wonder at his state. Joy in most characters in Wuthering
Heights is an uplifting state associated with happiness and delighted exhilaration. However in
Heathcliff, as Nelly observes, it is a horrible, frightening thing. In Heathcliff, the mood arouses
wariness and fear in others and indicates some inner change so dramatic that its cause is almost
unthinkable.
Heathcliff offers no coherent explanation for his sudden change of state and the text offers no concrete
solution as to what could have caused his dark exhilaration. Thus, the question of his condition is left
largely unanswered as Heathcliff continues to exhibit such uncharacteristic behavior, inspiring all the
more uneasiness in Nelly, especially. He frightens her greatly several

Lady Antebellum Analysis
Transcontinental Resonance with Lady Antebellum
It was a vernal early summer day in 2010, back in my high school classroom in China. I was doing a
presentation on the 52nd Grammy Awards for my English class project, with the playback of the show
on the projector. The entire class devotedly enjoyed the flamboyant Lady Gaga, the patriotic 21 Guns
by Green Day, the elegant Beyoncé, and the astounding whirling performance by Pink. The
performances on the Grammy s were intense, until a quiescent and soothing piano prelude gradually
emerged. The intro did not sound as intense as pop or rock music, neither did it sound like country
music in any sense. I was astonished, since virtually all the English songs I had heard of were pop,
except for those country songs from the youthful Taylor Swift. The impressionable prelude was
definitely a novelty for me, an ordinary high school student in China, who had not been exposed to a
variety of English music genres by any means, while the opening lyrics Picture perfect memories,

The vocal and harmony in the song sounded both familiar and fresh, with a hint of rock embedded in
the overall country rock style. It was a song that instantly became a favorite of mine once I heard it. I
was resonated by this song, even though I could not tell my exactly feeling at that time, and I did not
know it was Need You Now by Lady Antebellum until I searched the lyrics afterwards. One might be
dumbfounded by how such an American country band could resonate a high school student in the
other hemisphere, but it was a true manifestation of how Lady Antebellum could captivate listeners,
regardless of their background and familiarity with music. In this paper, I shall analyze how Lady
Antebellum have been an influential and unique country music group, with references to their musical
influences and how they have

Define and explain the significance of the term derived demand as it applies to Strategic Human
Resources Planning. (5 marks)
Derived demand is described as a requirement for one product that is produced due to the purchase of
another product. This happens when consumers purchase goods to further their production and their
purchases are due to the demand of a final product. An example of this is when the demand for
housing is high; therefor the demand for lumber and other materials would be high to finish the final
product. If the demand of housing would drop, so would the sales and demand of the needed
materials.
Derived Demand applies to Strategic Human Resource Planning for organizations to forecast the

such as unemployment rate, geographic migration and graduation rates from educational institutions.
Generational Differences

Acute Myeloid Leukemia
This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and
585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the
US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United
States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness
can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current advances
have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of cancer, the
significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking traditional
therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these alternative forms
of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental to patients health than
the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the treatments that a patient is
going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological effects of the treatments themselves,
but also the effects of the disease.
Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are
diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10. Up
until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent.

Privacy And Its Effect On Society
Everyone is entitled to a certain level of privacy in regards to their personal information. However,
there is the constant increase and enhancement in technology and the growing value of information for
use in decision making. Between these two facts, the definition of privacy becomes unclear and allows
people to gather information that one might deem confidential. Privacy has been manipulated in
efforts claiming that as long as it is beneficial in the long run to a wholesome amount of people then it
is allowed. There are multiple forces to maintain personal information and ensure everyone s private
data is not breached. Technology allows culture to evolve by creating solutions to problems by
removing constraints that exist. Every invention or concept is expanded on to create the utmost perfect
solution. Although this process can take decades, or even centuries, to actually develop a proficient
resolution, the end result is what advances society industrially. There are conflicting views, however,
if these advances are beneficially or maliciously affecting society (Coget). New types of data such as
your habits, whereabouts, and daily routines are just a handful of the things that technology can now
track. Samsung and Google are two of the large, renown companies that have encountered legal issues
by tracking such personal information. Samsung was investigated by the US Federal Trade

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay
Gypsies in the Czech Republic
The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their
arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and
other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the
Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not
officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of
Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end
their ethnic marginilization. Though, due to historical circumstances dating back before communism

The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of
permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving.
Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to
the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon
began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in
the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in
society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to
destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many
Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country
(Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the
rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive
aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were
shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children
were instructed in the Christian religion. While many of these policies worked they were not regularly

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an accumulation of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean.
Marine debris is trash that culminates up in oceans, seas, and other sizable voluminous bodies of
dihydrogen monoxide. Its also known as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and the Pacific Trash
Vortex. It s located in a high pressure area between the U.S. states of Hawaii and California. This area
is in the middle of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. For many people, the conception of a garbage
patch displays images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In reality, these patches are
conventionally composed of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics. Microplastics that make up the
majority of garbage patches can t always be visible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, The World s Largest Dump: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch , it mentioned that the
UNEP indicates that today 80% of all marine debris that washes ashore such as trash and toxic matter
originally comes from shore based activities such as fun parties at the beaches and picnics. For
example the cups that gets blown off the beach in San fransicso then it finds its way to the patch. The
inland, rivers and streams carry trash to the sea. Marah Hardt who is fellow from the Blue Ocean

of its size and the fact that it lies closest to the biggest trash on the planet, the United States. Plastic

Students Should Not Be A Classroom
Young people misbehaving in school has become common in the twenty first century in Australia and
around the world. According to Tsouloupas (2013) student behaviour can be described as a form of
distractibility, disengagement, or disobedience in the classroom (p.164). Many students misbehave in
school due to the different events occurring in their lives. However, the way teachers choose to
manage a classroom can have an impact on the student s behaviour. Different factors can lead to
young people misbehaving in school. This paper will draw on various academic articles that will

The Different Aspects of Conflict in a Selection of Four War Poems
Many poems have been witnessed throughout history that show different views on war and the glory
and sacrifices made. Everyone was affected, from the men in the front lines to women and children
working back at home. Men involved in the war effort often wrote poems to record their thoughts and
feelings, or simply to pass the time. Poetry was an outlet through which they could express great depth
of meaning by condensing it into a few words. In this assignment I am going to write about the war

England is personified as being a mother. Brooke s message in this poem is that if he should die, the
place of his death will be made richer by his body. The body will carry these English blessings,
passing them onto the ground on which it lies. Brooke writes his own epigraph and shows a moving
sense of the poet s deep love of England and it s people. The poet feels he can influence the thoughts
of those left behind, with this he will try to cement the continuation of those qualities that he thinks of
as being essentially English. Brooke has transformed the poem into a sonnet, not addressed to a loved
one but to his country.
In this poem the moods of the first few months of the war are summed up. Despite the subject matter
there is a sort of serenity in the poem, even the words If I should die suggests that he expects to
survive.
The reality of the horror had still to be discovered.
This poem mirrors the sentiments expressed in The Charge of the Light Brigade . This event took
place in 1854 and is still remembered as one of the most famous triumphs in British history. The truth

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Odysseus And The Odyssey
The Odyssey, written in 725 BCE. in Greece is a tale of a great warrior Odysseus, trying to return
home to his wife after fighting a great war. The Epic of Gilgamesh, written earlier in 2700 B.C. in
Mesopotamia, is the tale of a King Gilgamesh who goes on a quest to find immortality. Throughout
these two epics both Gilgamesh and Odysseus are required to fight for their survival. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk has to fight Humbaba, a giant beast who is the guardian of the Cedar
Forest. While Odysseus lands in the island of the Cyclopes and is trapped in a cave with a giant.
The first enemy Gilgamesh encounters is Humbaba. After three days and one hundred fifty leagues
they finally arrive at the Cedar Forest. After some fighting in an act of desperation Humababa pleads
for his life, he says O Glgamesh, spare my life! (Foster 60). Following some discussion between
Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Gilgamesh finally gives in and kill Humbaba. But not before Humbaba curses
both of them. The first enemy Gilgamesh kills, later has great consequences. It will kill citizens of his
city, turn the Gods against him and even kill his best friend. The first enemy like in The Odyssey
could ve been avoided all together, but the protagonists kill them because they have too much pride.
The first enemy Odysseus meets on his journey is a Cyclops named Polyphemus. Odysseus and his
men entered the cave, where they helped themselves to some cheese and wine they later fall asleep.

Antivirus programs and Internet security programs are useful in protecting a computer or
programmable device / system from malware.
Such programs are used to detect and usually eliminate viruses. Anti virus software can be purchased
or downloaded via the internet. Care should be taken in selecting anti virus software, as some
programs are not as effective as others in finding and eliminating viruses or malware. Also, when
downloading anti virus software from the Internet, one should be cautious as some websites say they
are providing protection from viruses with their software, but are really trying to install malware on
your computer by disguising it as something else.

Cultural Impact On Cross-Cultural Communication
Introduction
When a company starts to do business in a foreign country, there are often many business practices
that are different and difficult to understand. Cross cultural communication refers to communication
conducted by people from different ethnic, social or gendered backgrounds, that is, communication
between people who do not share the common linguistic or cultural values. Through identifying some
most important influential factors in cross cultural communication, the paper points out some steps
and sugestions which can be use to make a successful meeting between an Australian young business
women and a traditional Japanese manager and discusses how those factors can lead to cross cultural
communication failures. After that, it provides solutions for main types of cross cultural
communication breakdown and strategies for enhancing effective communication. Finally, the paper
ends with a restatement of the main points, which is also the conclusion part.
Influential factors on cross cultural communication
Socio cultural influence
An important factor which also influences cross cultural communication is the socio cultural effect.
From the meaning of culture mentioned above, it is not difficult to see that socio cultural influence is
crucial to a successful cross cultural communication. Gumperz (2002) once wrote that ...socio cultural

What Is The Election Of 1912 Slogan
Presidential Election of 1912 In the presidential election of 1912 the Democrat Woodrow Wilson,
Progressive Theodore Roosevelt, Republican William Howard Taft, and Socialist Eugene Debs all had
their opposing views on the issues that concerning the future of democracy in America. Some of the
issues were; the Conservation of Natural Resources, Direct Democracy, Labor, Race, Tariff, Trusts and
Regulation of Business, and votes for Women. Majority of the people desired change, as would I if I
were to have lived during this time period . My vote would have been for Theodore Teddy Roosevelt,
as the change he promises is fair compared to the other candidates. Labor would be one of the issues
that would be most important to me as a voter. Working is part of life, it s necessary to be able to
provide for your family. In 1912, the working conditions were not safe or healthy. The long working
hours, the dangerous work space, the low pay all would make people desire change. As a voter, I
would want to know that in the future I would be safe at work with good pay to be able not to live in
poverty. There were many strikes that occurred, demanding change in labor in 1912. In the Lawrence
Strike, people fought for higher wages, shorter hours, safer working conditions, regulation of woman
and child labor, and workmen s compensation. Another issue that would be important to me as a voter
would be the tariff. The Tariff is a source of federal revenue. It s a way for the United States

Chemtrails Do you think Chemtrails are made of chemicals? Many scientists say they are just made of
water vapor and the real name is Contrails short for (condensation trails). Some say that they have
chemicals in it has it sprayed all over the clouds to get to the people. But all that is not true because I
have seen videos up close, pictures that s clear, scientist that experimenting and talking about it right
now. Chemtrails are not harmful. The U.S. wouldn t do thing like it. In theory, the scientist Phil Plait

These videos show that the water vapor coming out of the jets are just water droplets crystalizing into
ice then goes into the clouds form as a cloud. As watch a YouTube video it shows that chemtrails are
starting as water vapor because there nothing coming out of it when you turn it on. As a theory, there
are no chemicals based on the videos. In these videos the chemtrails shows that there are no
chemicals. At last, I saw pictures that describes that there are no chemicals because the chemtrails don
t start as one. As I saw a picture up close when a jet is about to release the water vapor they are
forming in to clouds. It would probably take a lot longer for chemicals to form into a cloud. There are
so pictures that look the same it s just water vapor they don t hurt people. Also, they are all the way up
in the air they can t reach you. In conclusion, chemtrails are just water vapor forming into clouds, so
that the air would have more cover, Also, it s to control the weather from disaster, and the population
and our food supplies. These chemtrails help our community, they don t vandalism the country.
Chemtrails are a good thing. Because scientists are researching, pictures that describe it, and videos up

Pros And Cons Of Transgender Soldiers In The Military
Did you know that 87 percent of students not going to college right out of high school do NOT meet
the military recruitment standards? So why would we want to refuse nearly 1 percent of our military
from serving (Feinberg)? Since Donald Trump was inaugurated, transgender recruiting for the military
has decreased (Brook). Then on July 26, 2017, President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. military
would no longer be accepting transgender soldiers in the military (Ingraham). This reverses the policy
Barack Obama established in June 2016 when transgenders weren t allowed in the military
(McLaughlin). Although many believe the medical costs of having transgenders in the military are too
expensive, they are just as accepted and prepared to fight as other soldiers. The main reason President
Donald Trump declared transgenders were no longer going to be accepted in the military was because
our military can t afford the extra costs of transgender medicines and procedures. There was even a
report written on our bad military budget by the Congressional Budget Office in 2014 titled,
Approaches to Reducing Federal Spending on Military Healthcare . Right now in the military, there
are currently 250 transgender personnel transitioning. Altogether, it costs the military $31 million for
the 250 transgender personnel, about $124,000 $140,000 per person (Pulley). A survey conducted by
RAND corporation says that the transgender medical costs would only increase the military budget by

Polycystic Kidney Disease
Introduction: Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic disorder, which means that it is inherited from the
parent and passed on to further generations. It causes uncontrollable cyst growth within the kidneys,
that eventually can lead to kidney failure and the need of a kidney transplant. Five percent of kidney
failure is due to this disease alone, (PKD Foundation). Not only can it affect the kidney, but many
other organs, and cause a lot of painful symptoms, which will be discussed later in the paper. There
are two types of polycystic kidney disease (PKD), one is called Autosomal Dominant Polycystic

Comparing The Book The Hero With A Thousand Faces
The epic poem Beowulf, the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and many other literature works
all have references from the Anglo Saxon period. The Anglo Saxons had a very interesting way of
interpreting their way of life into great stories. Some of those interpretations are as follows: true
calling vs honor and glory, the symbolization of monsters, and the struggle of life. These
interpretations will show how the Anglo Saxon period and the epic poem relate together.
Stories and poems from the Anglo Saxons period have a hero with a true calling. The hero in story
will usually have some kind of a quest they need to complete to fulfill their assumed role. From a

The Death Of Marat
Sydney Hamer English 1030 Stukes Project 1 January 27, 2015 One of the most breathtaking and
fascinating ways someone can author something for me is a piece of art. Whether it is a sculpture,
architecture or a painting it can be very moving. Many details go into a piece of art that can make one
feel someway that one may not feel from reading a book or listening to a song. Throughout history
artists of all types have used their talents to persuade or inform people. The painting The Death of

David also keeps some of Marat s body in shadow that allows for the viewer to feel compassion and

very important in his message reaching a lot of people. In the 18th century there was no radio or

Intersectionality And Intersecting Identities
Intersectionality is a concept that is utilized to better understand the dynamics of oppression and
privilege in regards to an individual s identity. Intersectionality is how different identities align and
cross (intersect) to create more identities and experiences. For example, a black woman who is
homosexual must deal with the prejudices and challenge that both of those identities present.
Recognizing and understanding intersectionality is vital for facilitating a beneficial intercultural
dialogue. A beneficial intercultural dialogue can garber a more advanced and open sense of empathy
and knowledge for intersecting identities that an individual may not have had before. This is due to
their position in relation to other individual s identities, positionality, which plays a significant role in
intersectionality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is positionality in regards to intersectionality. Positionality is totally relational; we can observe
our positions in relation to ours and other intersecting identities. An individual s positionality
influences how they perceive and make sense of the world; a standpoint. Individuals who are lower on
the positional hierarchy usually have a better view on the variety of standpoints beyond their own, as
they need these understandings to survive. I, myself, have a variety of identities that intersect in many
different ways. I identify most strongly with my identities in respect to my age, race, class, and
gender. These four identities are the identities that have contributed the most into making me the
person I am today. These intersecting identities have been both advantageous and disadvantageous to
me in my life. Understanding how these four identities intersect, has helped recognize my

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Given the recent closures of Future Shop stores across Canada, there is significant uncertainty facing
customers, employees, suppliers, and landlords. Customers will have concerns regarding gift cards,
product returns, and warranties. The challenges of dealing with employees include addressing
termination packages, retaining the best personnel, and transitioning Future Shop employees from a
commissioned pay plan to a salaried structure. Suppliers concerns will stem from goods transported to
Future Shop on trade credit, and the loss of future business. Landlords will be concerned with the
status of their lease agreements with Future Shop. Also, the decision on whether to amalgamate or
wind down Future Shop operations will be of utmost importance. Our team has done extensive
research into the failures of Target, and is best suited to help Best Buy navigate through this delicate
transition period. This report analyzes the concerns that Best Buy will face, and addresses them from a
behavioural and legal perspective. In order to maximize the benefits and limit the risk, our analysis
indicates that Best Buy should wind down Future Shop operations and maintain it as an inactive
company.

The Colonial Rule Of Under The United Nations ( Un )...
In 1918, under the United Nations (UN) mandate, Britain occupied Tanganyika and Zanzibar, at the
same time adding subsidies to the education system previously under German control. In contrast, the
people in Tanganyika did not appreciate the colonial education; they instead, viewed it as an
interruption of their agricultural routines, as it favored the colonial regime s benefit, instead of the
indigenous people (Ingham, 2013). In the meantime, education fashioned aristocracies and servers,
where indigenous became servants to the colonial rulers (lords) In addition, the colonial rulers
replaced the tradition of Tanganyikan with foreign values (Nyerere, 1967) through education they
provided. The first Secondary school in Tanganyika opened in 1930, exactly, 50 years after the
colonial powers came to Tanganyika. Fifteen years later, after World War II in 1945, Tanganyika
owned that same a single secondary school offering education for ordinary level in four years and
contained only six students. Additionally, by 1954, less than 10% of children from Tanganyika were in
schools (Nyerere, 1967), and during independence in 1961, the country had 490,000 students with
four years level primary school graduated (Nyerere, 1967). By that time, the Index Mundi website
reports the approximate population of 10,373,270 in Tanganyika (Index Mundi). Among the
population, the UN website specifies that 4, 600,000 or 45% of the population were children at the age
of 0 14 (The UN Website).

The Importance Of Investment In A Website
Why is investing in a website a good step for your business? Here are great reasons why you need to
have a website. The investment you make in your website is a sustainable investment (your site exists
as long as you renew the hosting and the domain name), especially if you opt for a solution that offers
an easy to use interface and allows to evolve your site at the same time as your activity.
In our connected world, many shopping decisions are made at a computer screen. Imagine those
customers you may have lost because you don t have a website. A web page can then become a very
important source of information about everything that affects your products and services for your
customers.
People from all over can find your website and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, it s also easy to use a website to advertise and increase your visibility. Also, by setting up the
right tools (payment buttons, forms, automated procedures, etc.) you can get prospects and customers
at any time of the day and even during the holidays.
It is also an element that will bring you more credibility. Your website is an investment and not an
expense. In the short and medium term, you will see the benefits of a website. And your website can
also help you defeat your rivals.
An about page allows you to tell your readers who you are, the goal of your website and the
experience you have. This is a very important page that can help you quickly win credibility in the
eyes of a surfer who arrives on your website for the first time.
Is there any affiliate program that you would like to promote? For example, a customer s garden is in
great need of landscaping and they have a lot of flyers of landscaping companies. Therefore, the first
reflex may be to check the information that they found on the internet about these landscaping
companies. Imagine your customer who bought 5 years ago at home, do you think he would like new
information?
Your clientele is no longer limited to people in your city or region. Your site is the center of your
online presence. Your website is your anchor, your home on the internet.

Viking Battle Tactics
Viking battle tactics and weaponry continues to impact our world today. From the unique technique
that the Viking performs in battle to the powerful weapons used. The Vikings were the first and
probably the last to introduce their unique battle tactic. Which is that they had no professional
standing army and did not fight regular formations (Viking Weapons and Warfare). The formation was
to charge towards their enemies all at once, catching their enemies off guard and giving the Vikings
the advantage of the upper hand. They were able to win battles with the formation due to the loyalty
bond between the Viking men and women with their lords (Viking Weapons and Warfare). Another
unique battle tactic the Vikings introduced was the spread and lay their weapons in the surrounding
area where the battle takes place beforehand, just in case the formation were to backfire (VIKINGS
MILITARY TACTICS AND FORTIFICATIONS).
This tactic was also an advantage if the enemies were to attack first, they would get injured first before

Analysis Of The Poem Coca Cola And Coco Frio By Martin...
Disappearing Culture Every single individual on this planet has their own distinctive identity and
culture. Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it
appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends, beliefs
and customs spread quickly from one culture to another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco Frio,
Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy encounters
when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is none other than
Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico, Espada tries to prove
that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people incline to neglect their own
cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries. As a child, Espada travelled from
Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his family for the first time. During his
visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and threatened by American values imposed
on them due to the presence of American corporate powers. It is known that Puerto Rican culture is a
mix of many cultures and is strongly influenced by Taino Indians, America, Africa and Spain ( Culture
and Traditions in Puerto Rico ). During the Spanish American War, Puerto Rico became the territory
of the United States when it was conquered on July 25, 1898 ( Puerto Rico: A U.S. Territory ).

Life Coaching Essay
Although I am often referred to as a life coach, I believe perspective coach better describes what I
offer my clients.
I like the word perspective because it means a particular attitude toward something; a point of view.
A life coach is traditionally characterized as someone who counsels and encourages clients on matters
having to do with career or personal challenges; counseling often defined as a form of advice.
Although timely advice can be useful, many of us already have a number of well meaning people
lined up in our lives who are more than eager to dispense their vault of wisdom about the right way for
us to live a happy and successful life.
But if it were really as simple as just getting the right advice, then why would we struggle ... Show

The best things in life are free BUT you get what you pay for. Nothing ventured, nothing gained BUT
better safe than sorry. Slow and steady wins the race BUT time waits for no one. Don t judge a book
by it s cover BUT clothes make the man. Life is what you make it BUT what will be, will be.
So why do we struggle to change?
We don t see things as they are, we see them as we are.
~Anais Anin~
Each of has a very unique perspective of the world we see. Some of us see the macro while others
focus more on the micro. Some see good and others just the bad.
Our point of view is neither right nor wrong, it just is, but what we see is what is ultimately going to
dictate what we get.
Our attitudes are not based on what we think about a situation, but how we feel about it, and those
feelings arise from our beliefs.
What we believe about the world, and our place in it, it what will ultimately determine our results. It

To what extent did Stalin s rule mar the key turning point in Russia s political development 1856
1953?
In an historical context, a turning point can be categorized as an event o impact caused by an
individual that, had it not occurred, would have altered the final outcome of a period of history. In the
period of Russian history 1856 1953 there is no doubt there was a huge amount on political change, at
the bringing of the period Russia was a state ruled by an autocratic Tsar and by the end it had seen
provisional governments, local and national assemblies and a whole variety of rulers, some more
autocratic and reactionary than others. Stalin s period of rule in Russia could be seen as the most

These purges allowed him to remove any political opponents to himself or the party. He has been
judged very harshly but a number of historians, including Steve Phillips judge that enormous human
costs of the policy and Stalin s personal manipulation of policy to his own advantage 5 where some of
the reasons as to why he is viewed in such a bad light, others see what he did as necessary. Martin
McCauley wrote that the future is built on the bones of the past 6 taking a more Marxist view of the
long term result being of greater importance than the short term impacts. There are also questions over
Stalin s objectives, as at times they seemed contradictory, economically Stalin was building Socialism,
but politically he was destroying it 7. A number of historians contest this and consider Stalin to be a
product of his time rather than a genuine key individual, Stalin s rise to power was not based on
human qualities; it resulted from the functioning of an inhuman machine, the bureaucracy 8 . Stalin
and Lenin took very different stances; Lenin followed Socialism in one country whilst Stalin wanted
international socialism. Stalin was also far more brutal than Lenin. My judgment is that the turning
point in this period (1916 17) was Lenin dissolving the Constituent Assembly as it was the true

Pros And Cons Of Pay For Equal Pay
The Guardian article The USA women s national team are demanding equal pay. Is it realistic? written
by Beau Dure discusses the interview held by CBS s 60 Minutes about the USA women s national

representatives for the women s team, and even less knowledge of what is being discussed within
these meetings. As of now all that anyone knows for sure is that the women s team current deal is
coming to an end. Dure points out that the debate at hand includes all forms of equality between the
US men s team and the US women s team; such as equality in pay, travel amenities, and field location
accessibility. However, while there are many parts to this debate Dure choses to focus on the
difference in pay. Dure emphasizes the difference in the payment systems, bonuses for championships,

Discussion of the Article The Influence of Economists on...
Discussing the Federal Reserve After reading the article, The Influence of Economists on the Federal
Reserve Act, it is apparent the author is trying to suggest that the economists played a major role in the
banking reform which led to the development of the Federal Reserve Act. During the late 1800 s and
early 1900 s, issues regarding the framework for which the bank operates on was inconsistent and did
not perform as projected in foreseeable emergency situations. For this reason, economists developed
strategies and offered a plan that would deter the U.S. from the current sub tier banking system
currently in place into a more reliable centralized banking system. The author gives evidence to this
by including an array of economists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With copious amounts of supporting details, the author s point of view may be one that focuses on
economists in relation to the Federal Reserve Act and less on political agendas. The economists were
the ones responsible for providing research and acknowledging different solutions to the crisis of
1907. The author depicts economists in the article as direct advisors and policy makers which gives
the reader a better understanding of their roles in which they were perceived by the Senate and
Congress (Caporal, 2003). These were individuals that strived for excellence and would go to great
means to make an impact in the economy that would alter the banking system forever. Whether a
reader agrees or disagrees with how the centralized banking system was created, the foundation for
which it was built off of has continued to grow over a century with key fundamentals still in place
today. The author s implications demonstrate that an economists, the intellectuals, were responsible for
the banking reform that led to a structured banking system. Could this all have been possible without
the influence of the economists? In my opinion, the author has provided enough evidence that would
allow the reader to properly analyze and have confidence in the integrity of the article. The conclusion
of the article signifies the influence the economist s had on the Federal Reserve Act and the

Contextual Theory. The Overall Purpose Of This Brief Paper
Contextual Theory The overall purpose of this brief paper is to characterize the main concepts, main
techniques, and any current research that supports contextual therapy in relation to contextual theory.
While the purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories not addressed
in class sessions, contextual therapy (which has also been referred to as contextual family therapy in
prior literature) is not per se a theory as much as it is a method of therapy based on Ivan Boszormenyi
Nagy s contextual theory. In his determination that there is more to understanding an individual s
challenges in relation to others, Boszormenyi Nagy designed contextual therapy to draw attention to
his empirically based findings from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excluding such information could lead to misrepresenting the factors by which the client experiences
the world and bankrupt the influence of culture on development. Boszormenyi Nagy stretches facts to
include those details about world views that are a product of our own created reality that is culminated
by choice and agency. While a child certainly does not have a choice into what family they are born
into, the parents do have a choice into how they will interact with each other around that child, such
that, inconsistencies or neglect of that healthy relationship could create for the child a fact that
unhealthy conflict is normal or that they must choose sides of affection (Goldenthal, 2005). Since
there is an underlying foundation of psychotherapy present, contextual therapy accounts for facts that
may be present that the client may not be able to bring to their conscience or that they may be
unwilling to acknowledge that were out of their control, but nevertheless, still occurred (Ruzgyte,
2011).
Psychology. The functioning of the person within was also heavily regarded by Boszormenyi Nagy,
such that his reflections from psychoanalytical theories would illuminate the need to connect the parts
of the individual psyche: cognitive abilities; emotional functioning; instinctual drives; internal
conflicts; moral and intellectual development; and concepts of object relations theory

Gender, Race, And Ethnicity And Power Essay
Society is complex and diverse. In such a diverse society, individuals may have different life
experiences to one another. While some individuals have positive viewpoints in the society, others
may differ in an negative aspect. In this socio autobiography, I argue that the society is an nightmare
as humans develop a whole range of complex sociological concepts. The following paragraphs will
explain the struggle of my life experiences being influenced by using the concepts of gender, race and
ethnicity and power.
My journey began the moment I entered the world on May 25, 1996. I was born and raised in a small
developed country called New Zealand. At birth, my biological sex was quickly determine as I was
category as a baby girl. My parents, both immigrant from Hong Kong, China in the 1980 s. As a
result, I automatically associates with an East Asian background which is dissimilar from the Western
culture in New Zealand. I grew up as the youngest member in the family, among with one older
sibling.
The concept of gender has a strong social impact on me. When I was born, I was immediately
assigned to a biological sex as a female with two X chromosomes. I was then socially classified as a
girl in the society with feminine gender roles. Gender is defined as a social principle which attribute to
the roles and expectations of males and females through the years of different societies (Phillips,
2005). Gender can be considered as behavioural, cultural and psychological traits

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Essays
Describe: (i) how induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are isolated (ii) how iPSCs can be used to
study human development (iii) how iPSCs can be used to model human disease and to develop
therapies for degenerative disease i) iPSCs are adult stem cells that have been genetically
reprogrammed to behave like the pluripotent stem cells found in embryos, i.e. can differentiate into
any cell type in the human body. This was first completed successfully in mice in 2006 by Shinya
Yamanaka and his team (Takahashi et al., 2006), then in humans in 2007 both by Yamanaka
(Takahashi et al., 2007), and by James Thomson and his team in America independently (Yu, et al.,
2007). Yamanaka and Thomson s methods were similar. In the report by Yu et ... Show more content

964 965). ii) Human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are pluripotent cells isolated from blastocysts, and
are highly useful in studying human development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). Although the
National Institute of Health states that it is not known if iPSCs and embryonic stem cells differ in
clinically significant ways , iPSCs are already being used to achieve the same results as ESCs in some
applications without the use of embryos, removing the ethical concern associated with ESCs (National
Institutes of Health, 2009). ESCs are capable of differentiating into all cell types, and can be used as a
source of differentiated cells. In the report by Itskovitz Eldor et al., they discuss the induced
differentiation of ESCs in suspension into embryoid bodies, including the three embryonic germ
layers. The authors state that the ability to induce formation of human embryoid bodies that contain
cells of neuronal, hematopoietic and cardiac origins will be useful in studying early human embryonic
development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). This is invaluable in terms of studying the early
stages of human foetal development. As iPSCs are better understood, and the methods of generating
them are refined, they have the potential to play an increasingly integral role in our study of human
development, in place of ESCs. In the report by Itzkovitz Eldor et al. it is noted that the ability

A Very Brief Biography of Alexander Dubcek
Alexander Dubček was the leader of Czechoslovakia in 1968. He was a communist, yet he wanted to
transform Czechoslovakia into a democratic nation. He was born in Uhrovek, Slovakia on November
27th, 1921. His family moved to the Soviet Union in 1925. Dubček received an early education in
Kirgiziya and became a loyal communist. In 1944, he moved back to Slovakia and secretly joined the
Communist Party. After World War II, very loyal communists were appointed to high government
posts. Moscow wanted all these countries to be loyal without question. Dubček was not at the point to
be offered these jobs, but did become a Communist Party official in 1949. He was then sent to
Political School from 1955 till 1958. When he returned, he became a Chief secretary of the regional
committee in Bratislava in 1958. Dubček was known as a reliable member who did not want to mess
up the system. He eventually became a full member of the Central Committee s Presidium in 1962.
After he attained this position, he permitted himself to be known as the mortal who would succeed
Antonin Novotnÿ. Novotnÿ could not solve the very difficult economic situation that Czechoslovakia
was facing. Dubček succeeded Novotnÿ on January 5th, 1968. In early 1968, the people of
Czechoslovakia were given more freedom. This arrived as a shock to most Communist leaders in
Moscow, since earlier he had been known as a devoted communist. Soon after this he publicly
pronounced that he wished to make the largest

Rape Culture
#RapeCultureIsWhen
These past two weeks, we have focused on the prevalent rape culture in the United States and how that
affects society. We found that sexual violence has become somewhat of a norm in the U.S., and that it
is no longer broadcasted in the media like the atrocity it is. This, along with the inherent gender
stereotypes within society, contributes to rape culture, which is defined by the Oxford Living
Dictionary as a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing
or trivializing sexual assault and abuse. Our society bombards us with acts of sexual violence, through
music and visual media. It is treated like a despicable act that must not be tolerated, one where the
perpetrators must be held accountable. Yet, at the same time, it is tolerated, and the perpetrators are
often allowed to roam free without punishment, while their victims are tortured with what happened to
them for the rest of their lives. This is rape culture, and although the term is circulating more and
more, the populous does not regard it as a serious issue, but as a problem made up hysterical feminists
(Rape Culture is When, Maxwell).
One of the works that we analyzed in this unit was a 2013 article by Roxanne Gay, titled The Careless
Language of Sexual Violence. Gay discusses how the media is desensitizing us to the rape and sexual
violence that runs rampant. She tells us about an eleven year old girl who was gang raped by eighteen

The Muslim Brotherhood By Donald Trump
President elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to jumpstart a bill in Congress that would ban
the Muslim Brotherhood by declaring it a terrorist organization. During Donald Trump s campaign to
run for President of the United Stated, he stated that he would ban Muslims. The terrorist attacks our
country has endured in the past by a few who were represented as an Islamic terrorist group, began a
stereotype that all Muslims are terrorist. Trump openly contributes to this stereotype and blankets all
Muslims into the same category of a terrorist, and he uses that scapegoat to get support behind his
attempt to ban them. The problem with this is that it is putting a lot of the people who are not involved
in terrorism but identifies as Muslim in fear for their lives. Muslims should not have to live in fear of
being banned for what religion they are apart of, Trump also needs to not be ignorant when it comes to
the problems he is causing by scapegoating the Islamic religion and all Muslims. Now that Trump is
the President Elect he needs to reassure everyone that he has the best interest for all people and will
not blindly ban Muslims simply because of their religion and the stereotypes placed on them. The
Islamic religion must be better understood before people can begin to speak about it intelligently. The
stereotypes that people think about when Muslims are brought up, cannot be what defines them as a
group. If you only know one religion you know none this quote has

Lewis Life Span Observation
On October 5, 2016, our Life Span Development class had the opportunity to observe the physical,
cognitive, and social development of Lewis, a three month old male infant. The observation was
conducted at Dordt College in Room CL 1143 and the infant s parent consented to participate in the
live observation. From the instant that Lewis and his mother walked into the classroom, the pair
exemplified Santrock s concept of bonding (Santrock, 2014). The front facing carrier sling allowed the
infant to benefit from the physical contact of being secured against his mother s chest. The carrying
device also served to satisfy what Freud would call the Oral Stage, as he theorized that infants become
attached to the person or object that provides them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis didn t show any signs of a reflexive or a social smile during the observation, but his mother said
that he is easily able to giggle in response to external stimuli in various forms (Santrock, 2014). Lewis
is exposed to ample stimuli for social development that not all infants his age have the opportunity to
be experienced by like he does. This factor comes in the form of his lifestyle with two older siblings,
as described by Santrock on page 179 (Santrock, 2014). Birth order might be a strong predictor of
behavior, contributing to why Lewis s temperament was described as extremely laid back, a quality
that wasn t as prevalent in his other siblings (Santrock, 2014, p. 179). Perhaps because of his naturally
high exposure to social stimuli, Lewis displayed a healthy reaction to the Strange Situation, defined by
Santrock as, a measure of infant attachment in which the infant experiences a series of introductions,
separations, and reunions with the caregiver. When Lewis s mother handed him to a student, thus
causing an object permanence discrepancy in which his mother disappeared and he was abruptly
exposed to a stranger, Lewis still remained calmly

Argumentative Essay On Honey Bees
Bees, commonly referred to as a nuisance, actually play an important role in the world, bees may seem
like just another bottom of a food chain useless Anthophila on planet Earth, but they play a vital part
in the food system that keeps us alive. Honey Bees are natural pollinators, and pollinate 30% of our
crops. Unfortunately Bees are dying off in Large colonies at a time,This is called Bee Colony collapse
disorder (CCD).Many studies relate this disorder to the use of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides.
Monsanto, being the largest producer of genetically engineered (GE) seeds on the planet; also create
chemicals to preserve crops at the agricultural level. Monsanto s is greatly affecting our agriculture in
two different ways. One way is creating GE seeds in a lab to make the crops more superior, and the
other by killing our Number one pollinators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus having lab created predators that are unnatural make pollinating a lot harder. Most people have
an aversion to bees, that probably goes back to childhood. Bees in general have created a bad outlook
of them, but they all play an essential role, especially the honey bees. Bees live in a matriarchal
society and everyone of them has their own duties. Without the Queen bee, bees don t know what to
do and can lose a colony of 50,000 80,000 bees. They live in nests called Hives and within the hive
are 3 branches of bees. The drones are males that come and go through different hives to mate with
queens, they have no stinger and once they mate with a queen then they will die. The worker bees are
90% females that live to work in the hives by producing wax layers called Honeycomb and supply the
queen with anything she needs, they live up to 45 days. The Forgers are the bees that leave the hive
and collect pollen and honey. Bees only travel about 3 approximately miles of their hive, and usually
create hives near pants that create

  • 2. The Jealous Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights Essay The Jealous Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights Throughout Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff s personality could be defined as dark, menacing, and brooding. He is a dangerous character, with rapidly changing moods, capable of deep seeded hatred, and incapable, it seems, of any kind of forgiveness or compromise. In the first 33 chapters, the text clearly establishes Heathcliff as an untamed, volatile, wild man and establishes his great love of Catherine and her usage of him as the source of his ill humor and resentment towards many other characters. However, there are certain tensions, contradictions, and ambiguities present in Chapter 34 that establish the true intensity Heathcliff s feelings towards Catherine; feelings so ... He refuses to eat, absents himself from the company of Cathy, Hareton, or Nelly, disappears inexplicably for long intervals of time and refuses to explain his absences. Most disturbing, his strange excitement continues, causing discomfort to all those around him, especially Nelly. When Nelly asks him where he was the night before his he began to exhibit this odd elation, he tells her, Last night, I was on the threshold of hell. To day I am within sight of my heaven I have my eyes on it hardly three feet to sever me (278)! His statement is ambiguous it does little to explain his sudden change of humor and little to satisfy Nelly s curiosity and wonder at his state. Joy in most characters in Wuthering Heights is an uplifting state associated with happiness and delighted exhilaration. However in Heathcliff, as Nelly observes, it is a horrible, frightening thing. In Heathcliff, the mood arouses wariness and fear in others and indicates some inner change so dramatic that its cause is almost unthinkable. Heathcliff offers no coherent explanation for his sudden change of state and the text offers no concrete solution as to what could have caused his dark exhilaration. Thus, the question of his condition is left largely unanswered as Heathcliff continues to exhibit such uncharacteristic behavior, inspiring all the more uneasiness in Nelly, especially. He frightens her greatly several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lady Antebellum Analysis Transcontinental Resonance with Lady Antebellum It was a vernal early summer day in 2010, back in my high school classroom in China. I was doing a presentation on the 52nd Grammy Awards for my English class project, with the playback of the show on the projector. The entire class devotedly enjoyed the flamboyant Lady Gaga, the patriotic 21 Guns by Green Day, the elegant Beyoncé, and the astounding whirling performance by Pink. The performances on the Grammy s were intense, until a quiescent and soothing piano prelude gradually emerged. The intro did not sound as intense as pop or rock music, neither did it sound like country music in any sense. I was astonished, since virtually all the English songs I had heard of were pop, except for those country songs from the youthful Taylor Swift. The impressionable prelude was definitely a novelty for me, an ordinary high school student in China, who had not been exposed to a variety of English music genres by any means, while the opening lyrics Picture perfect memories, scattered ... It was a song that instantly became a favorite of mine once I heard it. I was resonated by this song, even though I could not tell my exactly feeling at that time, and I did not know it was Need You Now by Lady Antebellum until I searched the lyrics afterwards. One might be dumbfounded by how such an American country band could resonate a high school student in the other hemisphere, but it was a true manifestation of how Lady Antebellum could captivate listeners, regardless of their background and familiarity with music. In this paper, I shall analyze how Lady Antebellum have been an influential and unique country music group, with references to their musical influences and how they have ... (5 marks) Derived demand is described as a requirement for one product that is produced due to the purchase of another product. This happens when consumers purchase goods to further their production and their purchases are due to the demand of a final product. An example of this is when the demand for housing is high; therefor the demand for lumber and other materials would be high to finish the final product. Acute Myeloid Leukemi Symptoms And Treatment Connor Stockman Bio 325 12/2/14 Acute Myeloid Leukemia This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and 585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current advances have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of cancer, the significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking traditional therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these alternative forms of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental to patients health than the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the treatments that a patient is going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological effects of the treatments themselves, but also the effects of the disease. Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10. Up until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poet feels he can influence the thoughts of those left behind, with this he will try to cement the continuation of those qualities that he thinks of as being essentially English. Brooke has transformed the poem into a sonnet, not addressed to a loved one but to his country. In this poem the moods of the first few months of the war are summed up. Despite the subject matter there is a sort of serenity in the poem, even the words If I should die suggests that he expects to survive. The reality of the horror had still to be discovered. Some of the issues were; the Conservation of Natural Resources, Direct Democracy, Labor, Race, Tariff, Trusts and Regulation of Business, and votes for Women. My vote would have been for Theodore Teddy Roosevelt, as the change he promises is fair compared to the other candidates. Labor would be one of the issues that would be most important to me as a voter. Working is part of life, it s necessary to be able to provide for your family. In 1912, the working conditions were not safe or healthy. The long working hours, the dangerous work space, the low pay all would make people desire change. As a voter, I would want to know that in the future I would be safe at work with good pay to be able not to live in poverty. There were many strikes that occurred, demanding change in labor in 1912. In the Lawrence Strike, people fought for higher wages, shorter hours, safer working conditions, regulation of woman and child labor, and workmen s compensation. • 21. Pros And Cons Of Transgender Soldiers In The Military Did you know that 87 percent of students not going to college right out of high school do NOT meet the military recruitment standards? So why would we want to refuse nearly 1 percent of our military from serving (Feinberg)? Since Donald Trump was inaugurated, transgender recruiting for the military has decreased (Brook). Then on July 26, 2017, President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. military would no longer be accepting transgender soldiers in the military (Ingraham). This reverses the policy Barack Obama established in June 2016 when transgenders weren t allowed in the military (McLaughlin). Although many believe the medical costs of having transgenders in the military are too expensive, they are just as accepted and prepared to fight as other soldiers. The main reason President Donald Trump declared transgenders were no longer going to be accepted in the military was because our military can t afford the extra costs of transgender medicines and procedures. There was even a report written on our bad military budget by the Congressional Budget Office in 2014 titled, Approaches to Reducing Federal Spending on Military Healthcare . Right now in the military, there are currently 250 transgender personnel transitioning. Altogether, it costs the military $31 million for the 250 transgender personnel, about $124,000 $140,000 per person (Pulley). Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends, beliefs and customs spread quickly from one culture to another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco Frio, Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy encounters when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is none other than Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico, Espada tries to prove that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people incline to neglect their own cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries. As a child, Espada travelled from Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his family for the first time. During his visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and threatened by American values imposed on them due to the presence of American corporate powers. It is known that Puerto Rican culture is a mix of many cultures and is strongly influenced by Taino Indians, America, Africa and Spain ( Culture and Traditions in Puerto Rico ). Stalin and Lenin took very different stances; Lenin followed Socialism in one country whilst Stalin wanted international socialism. Stalin was also far more brutal than Lenin. My judgment is that the turning point in this period (1916 17) was Lenin dissolving the Constituent Assembly as it was the true rejection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Discussion of the Article The Influence of Economists on... Discussing the Federal Reserve After reading the article, The Influence of Economists on the Federal Reserve Act, it is apparent the author is trying to suggest that the economists played a major role in the banking reform which led to the development of the Federal Reserve Act. During the late 1800 s and early 1900 s, issues regarding the framework for which the bank operates on was inconsistent and did not perform as projected in foreseeable emergency situations. For this reason, economists developed strategies and offered a plan that would deter the U.S. from the current sub tier banking system currently in place into a more reliable centralized banking system. The author gives evidence to this by including an array of economists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With copious amounts of supporting details, the author s point of view may be one that focuses on economists in relation to the Federal Reserve Act and less on political agendas. The economists were the ones responsible for providing research and acknowledging different solutions to the crisis of 1907. The author depicts economists in the article as direct advisors and policy makers which gives the reader a better understanding of their roles in which they were perceived by the Senate and Congress (Caporal, 2003). These were individuals that strived for excellence and would go to great means to make an impact in the economy that would alter the banking system forever. Whether a reader agrees or disagrees with how the centralized banking system was created, the foundation for which it was built off of has continued to grow over a century with key fundamentals still in place today. The author s implications demonstrate that an economists, the intellectuals, were responsible for the banking reform that led to a structured banking system. Could this all have been possible without the influence of the economists? In my opinion, the author has provided enough evidence that would allow the reader to properly analyze and have confidence in the integrity of the article. The conclusion of the article signifies the influence the economist s had on the Federal Reserve Act and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories not addressed in class sessions, contextual therapy (which has also been referred to as contextual family therapy in prior literature) is not per se a theory as much as it is a method of therapy based on Ivan Boszormenyi Nagy s contextual theory. Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Essays Describe: (i) how induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are isolated (ii) how iPSCs can be used to study human development (iii) how iPSCs can be used to model human disease and to develop therapies for degenerative disease i) iPSCs are adult stem cells that have been genetically reprogrammed to behave like the pluripotent stem cells found in embryos, i.e. can differentiate into any cell type in the human body. This was first completed successfully in mice in 2006 by Shinya Yamanaka and his team (Takahashi et al., 2006), then in humans in 2007 both by Yamanaka (Takahashi et al., 2007), and by James Thomson and his team in America independently (Yu, et al., 2007). Although the National Institute of Health states that it is not known if iPSCs and embryonic stem cells differ in clinically significant ways , iPSCs are already being used to achieve the same results as ESCs in some applications without the use of embryos, removing the ethical concern associated with ESCs (National Institutes of Health, 2009). ESCs are capable of differentiating into all cell types, and can be used as a source of differentiated cells. In the report by Itskovitz Eldor et al., they discuss the induced differentiation of ESCs in suspension into embryoid bodies, including the three embryonic germ layers. The authors state that the ability to induce formation of human embryoid bodies that contain cells of neuronal, hematopoietic and cardiac origins will be useful in studying early human embryonic development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). This is invaluable in terms of studying the early stages of human foetal development. As iPSCs are better understood, and the methods of generating them are refined, they have the potential to play an increasingly integral role in our study of human development, in place of ESCs. • 48. Rape Culture #RapeCultureIsWhen These past two weeks, we have focused on the prevalent rape culture in the United States and how that affects society. We found that sexual violence has become somewhat of a norm in the U.S., and that it is no longer broadcasted in the media like the atrocity it is. This, along with the inherent gender stereotypes within society, contributes to rape culture, which is defined by the Oxford Living Dictionary as a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse. Our society bombards us with acts of sexual violence, through music and visual media. It is treated like a despicable act that must not be tolerated, one where the perpetrators must be held accountable. Yet, at the same time, it is tolerated, and the perpetrators are often allowed to roam free without punishment, while their victims are tortured with what happened to them for the rest of their lives. This is rape culture, and although the term is circulating more and more, the populous does not regard it as a serious issue, but as a problem made up hysterical feminists (Rape Culture is When, Maxwell). One of the works that we analyzed in this unit was a 2013 article by Roxanne Gay, titled The Careless Language of Sexual Violence. Gay discusses how the media is desensitizing us to the rape and sexual violence that runs rampant. She tells us about an eleven year old girl who was gang raped by eighteen men in ... • 51. The Muslim Brotherhood By Donald Trump President elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to jumpstart a bill in Congress that would ban the Muslim Brotherhood by declaring it a terrorist organization. During Donald Trump s campaign to run for President of the United Stated, he stated that he would ban Muslims. The terrorist attacks our country has endured in the past by a few who were represented as an Islamic terrorist group, began a stereotype that all Muslims are terrorist. Trump openly contributes to this stereotype and blankets all Muslims into the same category of a terrorist, and he uses that scapegoat to get support behind his attempt to ban them. The problem with this is that it is putting a lot of the people who are not involved in terrorism but identifies as Muslim in fear for their lives. Muslims should not have to live in fear of being banned for what religion they are apart of, Trump also needs to not be ignorant when it comes to the problems he is causing by scapegoating the Islamic religion and all Muslims. Now that Trump is the President Elect he needs to reassure everyone that he has the best interest for all people and will not blindly ban Muslims simply because of their religion and the stereotypes placed on them. The Islamic religion must be better understood before people can begin to speak about it intelligently. The stereotypes that people think about when Muslims are brought up, cannot be what defines them as a group. If you only know one religion you know none this quote has ... Lewis Life Span Observation On October 5, 2016, our Life Span Development class had the opportunity to observe the physical, cognitive, and social development of Lewis, a three month old male infant. The observation was conducted at Dordt College in Room CL 1143 and the infant s parent consented to participate in the live observation. From the instant that Lewis and his mother walked into the classroom, the pair exemplified Santrock s concept of bonding (Santrock, 2014). The front facing carrier sling allowed the infant to benefit from the physical contact of being secured against his mother s chest. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lewis didn t show any signs of a reflexive or a social smile during the observation, but his mother said that he is easily able to giggle in response to external stimuli in various forms (Santrock, 2014). Lewis is exposed to ample stimuli for social development that not all infants his age have the opportunity to be experienced by like he does. This factor comes in the form of his lifestyle with two older siblings, as described by Santrock on page 179 (Santrock, 2014). Birth order might be a strong predictor of behavior, contributing to why Lewis s temperament was described as extremely laid back, a quality that wasn t as prevalent in his other siblings (Santrock, 2014, p. 179). Perhaps because of his naturally high exposure to social stimuli, Lewis displayed a healthy reaction to the Strange Situation, defined by Santrock as, a measure of infant attachment in which the infant experiences a series of introductions, separations, and reunions with the caregiver. When Lewis s mother handed him to a student, thus causing an object permanence discrepancy in which his mother disappeared and he was abruptly exposed to a stranger, Lewis still remained calmly ... Honey Bees are natural pollinators, and pollinate 30% of our crops. They live in nests called Hives and within the hive are 3 branches of bees. The drones are males that come and go through different hives to mate with queens, they have no stinger and once they mate with a queen then they will die.
