Carson Robison s Song Analysis
One of the most influential wars to the United States s homefront was not one of direct conflict and
bloodshed but rather a battle of perceived threat from Communism and the Soviet Union. This state
of turmoil, known as the Cold War, grew by feeding off the fear that encompassed the general
public. Post World War II, America s atomic monopoly and a booming economy made the people
feel safe and secure. Unfortunately, the quick growth of Communismin the eastern hemisphere
began to make the United Statesrealize the potential of Soviet dominance. Following major events
like the Truman Doctrine in 1947 and the successful detonation of the U.S.S.R s atomic bomb in
1949, citizens were forced to conform to a certain set of standards to avoid being... Show more

Specifically prevalent in the music and movie industries, artists felt unable to express their true
selves. Instead, they felt obliged to prove the country they supported the generalized, anti
communist ideology. Carson Robison s song I m No Communist of 1952, embodies how an artist
thought to present his or her persona. In the song, Robison discusses his love for America s
capitalistic government, disdain towards Communism, and disapproval of Stalin. Rather than being
able to create free music, Robison and his peers felt the need to convey their loyalty to America.
The cinematic industry also mirrored this response with a stream of anti communist movies which
satirized the Soviet Union and ridiculed the principles of Communism. Movies Dr. Strangelove
and Seven Days in May, both released in 1964, are few examples of the movement that sprouted
from Hollywood around 1949. The plots of these movies typically show over exaggerated fighting
between the United States and Soviet Union, depicting the latter always as the villains, and the
Americans as the victors. Why? Spurred by fears like the HUAC, the blacklist, and the creation of
the atomic bomb, producers and artists felt the that if they did not show allegiance to the United
States they would end up being subject to the same treatment that the Hollywood Ten received. The
sole presence of this restricted popular culture stream and the simple fact that members of the
artistic and cinematic industries felt the need to advocate for anti communist ideology to avoid
Communist suspicion shows how freedom of expression was unequivocally marginalized from the
late 1940 s to the

Climate Change Persuasive Essay
OUTLINE:
I recycle my plastic, paper, cans and bottles. I carpool or take a bus to school or work once a
week. I turn off lights and unplug electronics when I leave the house. But I question whether my
individual efforts have any effect on addressing environmental issues like climate change. What do
you think?
What argument would you make to your friend and others in response to the question?
Your efforts affect climate changebut very slightly. I think the results you are looking for are the
type of results you can achieve if you get a big amount of people involved.
Individual efforts do make a difference but the strength of the effect if determined by the effort of
the individual
The things like reduce, reuse, recycle have an effect but in the ever so slightest ways.
How would you support the assertion that individual efforts do indeed make a difference?
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Plant trees
Domino effect
Get communities involved
Beach cleanups
How would you advise your friend and others to expand their efforts to address climate change?
Get your whole family involved
Get community involved
Plan beach cleanups
Petitions to the government
What values would you invoke to support your claims?
The actions we make today will affect those in the future, possibly our children and their children s
children.

Psychological Abuse In Slavery By Harriet Jacobs
Psychological abuse is characterized by non physical acts to affect inner thoughts. As a slave,
Harriet Jacobs experienced a great amount of pain and suffering while her and her family members
were slaves of Dr. Flint. She narrated her experiences after realizing she was a slave at six years
old. From an analysis of Harriet Jacobs experience in slavery, she suffered more from psychological
abuse because she was treated like property, manipulated by Dr. Flint, and emotionally depressed.
One of the reasons why Harriet Jacobs suffers more from psychological abuse was because she
was treated as property. Upon the death of her generous mistress, Harriet Jacobs was later
relocated into her mistress niece s house. The mistress niece was only five years old which made
Jacobs the property of her father, Dr. Flint who made Harriet Jacobs life a living hell while being
a slave in his house. From the time that Jacobs and her brother William first walked into their
new master s home, they knew their lives were about to get worse: When we entered our new
home we encountered cold looks, cold words, and cold treatment, (Ch.2). From the start, Dr.
Flint and his wife treated Jacobs as property. As Jacobs said in chapter four, he occasionally tried to
sell her for high prices but said she wasn t his property to sell: She don t belong to me. She is my
daughter s property, and I have no right to sell her. Once Jacobs was 15 years old and Dr. Flint was

Torres Strait Islander People
The term Indigenous is generally used when referring to both First Nations people of Australia
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (Aboriginal Services Branch , 2009) the term
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is preferred in Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare (AIHW) publications however, the term Indigenous is used interchangeably with
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the essay.
The evidence of existence of the civilization in Australian main land and nearby islands has been
traced of some 44000 years ago. It is generally believed that the aboriginal people are the
descendants of a single migration into the continent, a people that split from the first modern human
population to leave Africa 64,000 to 75,000 years ago. Today s indigenous Australian are mainly the
migrants of Africa, southern Asian countries, genetically some indigenous Australian are closely
related to central and south Asian population.
In 2014, number of Aboriginal and Torres Islander people in Australiawas about 713,600 which

The Truth About Autism And Effects On Children
The Truth about Autism and Effects on Children 2
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a developmental disorder that affects the brain. Many children
are affected by Autism. It limits a child s ability to connect, socialize and relate to others. Autism
is a growing disorder and every year more children are born with autism. There is no cure for
autism; there are no known facts about what causes autism in children at an early age, just possible
causes. ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups (CDC, 2016, p.1).
Autism is a real threat, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls it a public
health crisis and estimates that 1 out of every 88 children and 1 out of every 54 boys in the
United States fits the diagnostic criteria (Melillo, 2013, p. 4). Autism is usually diagnosed in the

spectrum disorders than ever before (Allman, 2010, p. 25).
Signs and symptoms of autism include avoiding eye contact, delayed language, whole body
movements, repetitive motor actions like hand flapping or twisting and sensitivities to loud noises.
Also children with autism are often withdrawn. A child with autism may have problems with social
skills and communication skills.
For example, making friends, understanding feelings and sharing toys. In addition, autistic children
may have trouble with understanding words, learning to read and write and repeating words.

The Northanger Abbey And The Vicar Of Wakefield
One question that comes up in older novels such as Northanger Abbey and The Vicar of
Wakefield is that of the economy of love or more specifically marriage. Today, people take for
granted that people get married for love and little else. The idea of marriage as an economic
decision is a foreign and fascinating idea in today s society, but it was very prominent in Goldsmith
s and Austen s times and that is reflected in their novels.
Take first, Goldsmith s The Vicar of Wakefield and what role romantic loveplays in the novel. The
Vicar himself presents many different arguments about how his daughters should marry throughout
the novel, some of these contradicting each other and very few of them in favor of love as a
motive of marriage. At first, it seems that he wants his daughters to marry men of their own social
class, and discourages his oldest from pursuing Mr. Thornhill on the basis that disproportioned
friendships ever terminate in disgust (Goldsmith 15). He likewise rejects the benevolent Mr.
Burchell as a suitor for his youngest daughter because ...he is poor, and perhaps deserves poverty;
for he has neither the ambition to be independent, nor the skill to be useful (Goldsmith 17). Later,
however, he looks more closely at the characters of his daughters respective suitors and seems to
set aside, if not abandon altogether, the issue of marrying within one s own class. He very
obviously disapproves of Mr. Thornhill asserting that he ...could have been better pleased

The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer was a famed late 14th century English poet and author. Born in London in
1343, Chaucer s early life or education is not well known. Most of what is known about him
stems from his professional work. He is most well known for his works as an author and poet.
Amongst scholars he is accredited the title of Father of English literature and is widely
considered to be one of, if not outright, the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages. Chaucer
would write many well known works over the course of the latter half of his life, his most famous
and critically acclaimed literary work being The Canterbury Tales. With Chaucer starting
composition between 1386 and 1389, The CanterburyTales was originally envisioned by him to be
an anthology of four stories from each of the twenty nine characters that are introduced in the
General Prologue of the book. Unfortunately, either due to revising or his untimely death on
October 25, 1400 at the age of 57, only 24 stories out of a proposed 120 were completed, leaving
The Canterbury Tales far from completion. Nevertheless, its incomplete status did not stop the
work from becoming highly popular. The Canterbury Tales story revolves around a narrator who
joins a group twenty nine people on a spring time pilgrimage to Canterbury. Each character is
described in detail of both their looks and personality by the narrator and at the request of the host
of the inn the group stays at, each character tells an amusing story to spend time

Assess The Impact Of Transnational Cinema
Being an island nation makes us a trading nation, which is an obvious connection between borders.
How we trade with each other allows for transnational cinema to be present and is the basis for an
understanding, which connects people across geographical borders. Following the recent European
referendum it is relevant to mention how this will affect the UK s filmindustry regarding trade. The
MEDIA Scheme/Creative Europefunding will be stopped, co productions with different countries
will be harder to achieve in the short term, British/European co productions may need new
legislation, and fewer UK films will be shown in European cinemas as well as many other negative
outcomes (Follows, 2016). However this shows how much transnationalism affects UK trade,
company distribution and future films success as well as the impact which politics has upon the
film industry. This shows how not only cast/crewmembers nationalities, the location and the
storyline matters in transnational cinema, but the trade and distribution after the film is made all
enhance the transnationality of the piece.
Interestingly, it seems when discussing terrorism in cinema, filmmakers more often than not make
films about terrorism that has happened in their own country. Hollywood cinema noticeably has an
absence of terrorism, whereas European films in contrast have far more. ... Show more content on

Eliminating distance, a film made in a different place to another can be seen as showing different
viewpoints, whether that be from the filmmakers perspective or through the innate customs of the

country, therefore allowing audiences to understand different traditions. Transnational cinema

One application of magnetic fields in household appliances.
One thing that uses magnetic fields is the electric motor, which is used in many household
appliances, such as electric fans, microwave ovens, and other small appliances. In this instance the
electric motor has an electric current, giving it also this magnetic field. An electric motor converts
electricity into mechanical motion. Most electric motors work by electromagnetism, but motors
based on electrostatic forces also exist. The overarching concept is that a force is generated when
a current carrying element is subjected to a magnetic field. In a cylindrical motor, the rotor rotates
because a torque is developed when this force is applied at a given distance from the axis of the
rotor. Most electromagnetic motors are rotary, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamental principle upon which electromagnetic motors are based is that there is a
mechanical force on any wire when it is conducting electricity while contained within a magnetic
field. The force is described by the Lorentz force law and is perpendicular to both the wire and
the magnetic field. In a rotary motor, there is a rotating element, the rotor. The rotor rotates
because the wires and magnetic field are arranged so that a torque is developed about the rotor s
axis. In physics, magnetism is a phenomenon by which materials exert an attractive or repulsive
force on other materials. ... An electrostatic motor or capacitor motor is a type of electric motor
based on the attraction and repulsion of electric charge. ... Piezoelectricity is the ability of certain
crystals to produce a voltage when subjected to mechanical stress. ... In physics, the Lorentz force
is the force exerted on a charged particle in an electromagnetic field. ... Most magnetic motors are
rotary, but linear types also exist. In a rotary motor, the rotating part (usually on the inside) is called
the rotor, and the stationary part is called the stator. The motor contains electromagnets that are
wound on a frame. Though this frame is often called the armature, that term is often erroneously
applied. Correctly, the armature is that part of

Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory
We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity,
however it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to precisely define its presence. Rather than being
ontologically real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a
personal synthesis of our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time s creation are
reflected in our minds, our genetics, and our societies. Thus, by examining how we continue to
advance as a species and society, we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolutionto better
understand the origins, and consequences of the phenomena of time and thought.
Martin Heidegger sums his lecture The Concept of Time with the assertion that Time is Dasein ...

A meme is described by Dawkins as a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation, and the
occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary society. Today, tunes, ideas, catch phrases,
clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches, seemingly last no longer than the
blink of an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than
drifting toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be shifting toward the most fit memes and
ideologies. Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer
our lives as a sacrifice for the propagation of our society s ideology. Consequently, societal and
ideological evolutions appear to closely follow the three main Darwinian tenets of evolution.
What are colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for
their comedic appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon
called memes to show what I am talking about on a small scale. The first of the Darwinian tenets
holds that more individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588).
This applies to memes in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely
shared, or parodied, as others. The second and third tenets of Darwinian evolution provide an
answer as to which memes do get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among
individuals, and if they vary in a way to make them more likely to survive, then they will also be
more likely to propagate themselves into the next generation (Darwin 540). In terms of the
evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own traits, and, should one have some quality
that makes it more appealing to

Long ago, there was a native American called Ishi, he grew tired of eating fruit and vegetables
each day and sought out to find something new to eat. Ishi had always wondered what rabbit
would taste like, because he would see hawks swoop down and catching them. He started by
cutting a few strands of hair from the tail of his horse and braiding it to make cordage. Ishi started
by finding a rabbit burrow, he then cut down a small sapling and pounded it into the ground next
to the rabbit s burrow. Bending the sapling over to the other side of the hole he pounded a smaller

It included a walnut sapling about 4 feet in length, the inner bark of a basswood tree to make

Emission Standards of the Diesel Engine
Diesel engines began to be used in automobiles in the 1930s. They are used in many trucks, ships,
buses and small passenger cars in Europe right now.[1] Many believe that diesel engine are heavier,
noisier and generate black smock when running. However, diesel engine s unique advantages can
make them the engine of the future for vehicles. And with much more stringent standard to take
effect in the future, diesel engines emissions and control technologies are still very much in the
forefront. This paper will cover the developments in diesel vehicles emission regulation and control
technology for NOx, particulate matter (PM) for diesel vehicles.
Regulation
Right now there are two kinds of emission standard in US. One of them is federal standards
established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and another is California standards.
Since the State of California are facing more severe air pollutant problem than most of other state,
they choose to adopt its own emission regulations. The California Air Resources Board (ARB)
establish engine and vehicle emission regulations that are often more stringent than the federal
rules. Other states can make their own decision to either implement the federal emission standards
or to use California requirements.
After the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) on 1990, two sets of standards have been defined
for light duty vehicles. Tier I standard was published in 1991 and was phased in between 1994 and
1997. Tier II standard was

1.Part 1) Describe either human male or the human female reproductive structures and their
functions.
Part 2) Define the hormones involved and the events that take place during the human female
menstrual cycle.
The human female reproductive systems function is for human reproduction which is made up of
internal and external sex organs. The human female reproductive system includes the breasts, vagina
, vulva, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, and mammary glands. Each of these organs play a unique
part in the production and transportation of gametes and the production of the sex hormones. The
process that the human female reproductive system undergoes to carry out the role in the process
of pregnancy and birth is sexual maturation. Let s start with the ovaries. The ovaries are a pair of
small glands the size and shape of grapes that are located on the left and right sides of the pelvic
body cavity lateral to the superior potion of the uterus (The ovaries are highlighted in the image
above). The ovaries have three main functions. The first function is that they shelter and protect the
eggs until they are ready for use. Second, the ovaries produce female sex hormones called estrogen
and progesterone. It also produces lesser hormones called Relaxin and Inhibin. There are three
different types of estrogen. They are called estrone, estriol, and estradiol. Estrogen are hormones
that are important for sexual reproductive development. It controls the development of

What Are The Benefits Of Raising The Driving Age To Drive...
Too Young to Drive
The other night I received a call in the middle of the night from my best friend. Her older
brother, Vijay had been in a terrible car accident, and even though the doctors said he would live,
it was going to be a long and painful recovery. Vijay is 16 years old, and like most kids his age
had eagerly awaited being old enough to get his driver s license. At the time of the accident, two
of Vijay s friends were passengers in his car. The friends admitted that they had been changing the

Calorimetry Of Brass Lab Report
Background Brass is considered an alloy, or a mix of multiple metals. Brass is usually made of
copper and zinc, but there could be some other metals creating 300+ known brass alloys. The
amount of copper in brass will affect basic characteristics of brass like color, strength, conductivity,
etc. To find the amount of copperin brass one can use visible spectroscopy. Spectroscopy is the
study of electromagnetic radiation. It originated as a study of visible light, and wavelength through
a prism. Spectroscopy can show how much copper is in a brass solution by showing how much
visible light is passing through a copper solution

State Vs Rhodes Case Study
The court should not interfere with Mr. and Mrs. Smith s marriage. There has been no significant
or permanent injury inflicted, as well as no major threats towards Jane s life from John. So why
get involved? This case is a matter of family government, something the judicial system shouldn t
try and fix. What s done behind closed doors at home is done and the case of State v. Rhodes
would support that argument. Our conclusion is that family government is recognized by law as
being as complete in itself as the State government is in itself, and yet subordinate to it; and that we
will not interfere with or attempt to control it, in favor of either husband or wife, unless in cases
where permanent or malicious injury is inflicted or threatened,

Airline Passenger Bill of Rights
In 2006 the FlyersRights.org was formed by Kate Hanni because she and her family were
stranded for 9 hours on the tarmac in Austin, Texas. They were not allowed to leave the aircraft
and were forced to endure the heat and smells filling the cabin from the on board lavatories. The
passenger Bill of Rights was not new at that time, FlyersRights.org stated The bill, which had
been stalled in Congress since at least 1999, allows passengers the option of getting off delayed
planes after 3 hours on the ground, and requires airlines to provide adequate food, water,
temperature controls, ventilation and working toilets to accommodate a 3 hour delay
(FlyersRights.org, 2013). Due to Kate Hanni s persistence her congressman Democrat Mike
Thompson introduced legislation which would force airlines to allow passengers to deplane after 3
hours on the tarmac. In 2007 Democrat Senator Barbra Boxer and Republican Senator Olympia
Snowe joined in bipartisanship to introduce S.678 IS AirlinePassenger Bill of Rights Act of 2007
this bill s intent is To amend title 49, United States Code, to ensure air passengers have access to
necessary services while on a grounded air carrier and are not unnecessarily held on a grounded air
carrier before or after a flight, and for other purposes (The Library of Congress, 2013). The major
changes to Title 49 of the U.S. Code include provisions of food and water to the passengers and
also the right to deplane. In 2009, Senators Boxer and Snowe

Argumentative Essay On Phobias
Taking into consideration that all people are unique, we all have different phobias. A phobia is an
extreme or irrational fear of something. Many phobias are in relation to one another. For instance
the phobias agoraphobia, anthropophobia, and stenophobia. These three are related by the reason of
they can correspond with social situations. Agoraphobia is mainly the fearof crowds. It can also be
the fear of bridges or being outside. Anthropophobia is the fear of people and society. It is also
known as an extreme pathological form of shyness. The last phobia, stenophobia, is very rare. It is
the fear of narrow things or places. All phobias are important to understand. Being able to

A Research On Safe Environment Essay
Safe Environment A safe environment allows for a student s basic needs to be met, which can be a
great preventative measure to inappropriate student behavior. This safe environment should be
psychologically safe in that students can feel free to share and explore ideas and knowledge.
Additionally, the environmentshould be physically safe, in the setup of the classroom and behavior
of the students. Without a safe environment, students aren t free to value learning and come to be a
lifelong learner.
Positive Relationships
Contributing factors to a safe environment are positive relationships, including student teacher,
student student, and parent teacher. In developing each of these relations, I will be present and
pleasant.
To develop positive student teacher relationships I will begin the school year by getting to know
each student. I will do this through having the students answer questions about themselves on a
notecard or on a self portrait. These questions might include their favorite color, favorite animal,
favorite subject, and an interesting fact. I would also share my answers with the students so they
can get to know me. Another strategy I will use is greeting my students at the door as they enter
and leave, to develop the relationship in the classroom and show that I continue to care as they
leave. Another crucial part of this relationship is to show your belief in them. I will exemplify this
by calling on all students equally by using the notecards developed at

South Africa s Location Of The Continent Of Africa
South Africa is a located at the very bottom of the continent of Africa. It is surrounded on three
sides by the Atlantic Ocean by the West and South and the Indian Ocean to the East. To the North
it boarders Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Swaziland. One interesting thing is
that there is a landlocked, surrounded on all sides by land, country of Lesotho. This is evident by
Map 1, shown below, that shows South Africa in the red box and the darker brown country within
South Africa being Lesotho. Which still remains true today, Lesotho is still its own country with
an unsettled relationship with South Africa. Map 1: South Africa s location on Africa (South
Africa, 2015) The country has a very long history from our great ancestors to the extremely wide
variety of wild and unique animals. However, this land has been under quite a bit of bloodshed
and insatiability. From its days of slave trade, British control and the bloody revolutions these
people have been through, it has shaped the country as a whole. The one thing that seems to have
impacted the development of the country has been the issue of disease and the mortality rate of
woman and children. One thing that could be done to greatly reduce these issues would be to invest
more in the sanitation of the available water resources. This issue has been in progress of being
improved but is lagging behind due to the decolonization of the country. During negotiations with

Essay on Why I Support Banning Smoking in Public Places
Some businesses prefer that no one smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Most governments
have banned smoking in all public places. Based on personal experience, personality style and
emotional concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be
banned. Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their
actions do not violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking
in public places rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who
breathe in the smoke. The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is
that second hand smoke can cause disease as well as death in adults and children... Show more

Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their
freedom, however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in
danger. Smoking makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants
and other public areas the smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a
smoking section and a nonsmoking section in a building is better than mixing everyone
together. However, if we drop dye into water, doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and
anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking
section all through the building in the air, therefore, spreading the dangers with it. For this
reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The argument I support in the first
paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s Report concluded,
scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to secondhand smoke.
Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become stickier, damage the
lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce heart rate variability,
potentially increasing the risk of heart attack (http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E

The first process of choosing the right information system for SUC is defining the goals of the
organization. The first goal is to provide safe, quality healthcare to patients. The second goal is to
maintain the necessary financial stability to provide that care. Another important goal is to
maintain accurate and secure information within the organization as well as to outside entities as
necessary. Investigating, or attaining a clear understanding of how to achieve these goals is the first
step. Defining what the system must do to achieve these goals, or system analysis, is the next step.
System design will then need to be done to determine how to meet these goals. System
implementation is the next step. This occurs when the components that were determined in the
implementation step are created or obtained. System maintenance and review is the last on going
step that will maintain the organization and determine what modifications are needed to continually
meet the company goals.
To determine the effectiveness of the chosen information system, SUC will use the collective
information gathered by people, procedures, databases, and devices within the organization, which
is known as using the Management Information System (MIS). This process begins with decision
making. There are three stages in decision making: intelligence, design, and choice. Problems are
discovered and information of what has caused the problem or what is needed

Environmentalism In Princess Mononoke
Hayao Miyazaki is an ingenious Japanese animator and film director, and has created many
beloved masterpieces that are both visually enchanting and rich in meaning. Also known as the
Japanese Walt Disney , Miyazaki has won numerous awards, for films including Spirited Away,
Laputa: Castle In The Sky and My Neighbour Totoro. Each of his movies have messages integrated
into the storyline that delve into deeper issues relating to the current world and society. Princess
Mononokeis no exception and the intentions, choices and influences of Miyazaki are instrumental
to understanding his creation.
Unlike Miyazaki s usual entertainment first, lessons second approach, Princess Mononoke was
produced to inspire people to think about the issues within the film. In Princess Mononoke,
Miyazaki explores themes such as the environment and the conflict between humans and nature,
and pacifism.
Environmentalism is often depicted in Miyazaki s films, due to his belief that people are intended
to live amongst nature. The basis of Princess Mononoke is centered around the forest, which is
alive and thriving despite the growing threat of industrilisation. Throughout the movie, beautiful
and enchanting Japanese landscapes are shown, with clear signs of life (such as the Kodama
spirits) in the forest. Kodama spirits are known in Japanese folklore to inhabit the trees, and if one
were to cut down the tree, they would be cursed. The Kodama spirits are also representative of

Ideologies In Mother Courage
Referring to Brecht s time, war was prominent, despair was all around and corruption resided,
hand in hand. People had obviously lost all hope and faith, they just wanted to survive somehow
and that innocent notion is what to led massive corruption. That later turned into selfishness and
carelessness, in short, the battle for survival of the fittest. War led to the growth of business
making, war was fought on the basis of religious bribery, and survival then became dependent on
both. In the play Mother Courage by Brecht, he criticizes all three ideologies, respectively. These
three notions are actually what make her Mother Courage . In scene one she says:

It s basically all a profit making game, with no care for the fate of the lower classes. But then
again, as Mother Courage pointed out before, people are stupid. Everyone needs a motivation to do
something, and that motivation usually comes with a reward in the name of God and the shape of
cash, which ultimately becomes the easiest and most useful survival scheme. And in case of men,
women are also included in the prize package. The Recruiting Officer lures Eilif in joining the
platoons by saying Ten gilders in advance and you re a soldier of the king and a stout fellow and
the women will be mad about you.

Organized Chaos
Society, on the outside, is organized chaos. Take Chicago for instance, if we removed rules and
time, it would be in turmoil. Crime, chaos, disorder; the city would not last more than aday. If we
add in laws, and enforced them with police, much of that chaos would subside. However, the city
would still crumble, and again, would die within the first 24 hours. The fundamental rule which
keeps a society together is time. Time holds society together, but in doing so controls what we can
and cannot achieve in our short lives.

Challenges to commercial Horticulture due to pollution in the uk
A major challenge to the horticulture industry is pollution and the negative effects that may arise
because of it.
As the population grows it is apparent that pollution is unavoidable to some degree, this will

can have a negative effect on horticulture;
Air pollution water pollution soil pollution
the first challenge that commercial horticulture faces due to pollution is not pollution itself but a

Dyslexia Research Paper
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that affects individuals language acquisition skills such
as learning to read and spell. Most researchers have agreed that its core cause is poor
phonological awareness, that is, the poor ability to manipulate sounds in speech. Learning to read
requires the child to establish a set of mappings between the letters (graphemes) of printed words
and the speech sounds (phonemes) of spoken words. Learning to read English poses particular
challenges for children with dyslexiadue to its inconsistent letter sound mappings. Traditional
explicit and intense phonics based (letter sound) multisensory instruction training has shown its
efficacy in helping children at risk for or with dyslexia to learn to read.... Show more content on

TUIs are a computing paradigm where the real world is augmented by embedded physical
objects with digital information. As a computer supported approach, instructions with TUIs can
reduce great workload of tutors. TUIs also have additional benefits in helping children with

learning that is also spatial in nature; (2) TUIs incorporate multiple modalities that can be
simultaneously used to support letter sound learning; and (3) TUIs can leverage the use of
multiple cues such as colour and tactile cues to explicate letter sound relations. While TUIs may
have benefits in learning to read, there is little research exploring how TUIs might be designed to
support children with dyslexia to learn to read. There are no studies that specifically investigate if
using dynamic colour cues or tactile qualities of tangible letters can improve reading outcomes for
dyslexic children. In my research, I present the design of a tangible reading system called

It Might Have Gone Something Like This In Queen of Knives , Neil Gaiman exemplifies how
unreliable our narrator is in dealing with death and derangement. Through this naГЇve narration, we
are presented with a story in which the narrator; a young boy at that time, recalls how a magician
vanishes his grandmother during a magic show. Upon closer analysis we will see that Gaiman
actually implies that the grandmother has died causing the grandfather to go crazy from the death
of his wife. In order for our narrator to cope with traumatic experience of losing a loved one and
witnessing his grandfather lose his mind he blends the story with memories. The poem is set up as

Before the story begins a quote looms above the passage reading The reappearance of the lady is
a matter of individual taste (Gaiman 122). This should be an initial signal to readers that a
woman disappears. What we believe to be the initial act of the show is in fact the entrance of
funeral. Gaiman uses subtle imagery to hint at what is really happening. Early on in the poem
we see a line where the boy recalls a gray walk with his grandmother along a promenade. Then
during the show thunder rolls this is to create a melancholy mood and represent Pearl s sadness
along with depression at the funeral. We are told that the people there are all elderly friends and
family attending the ceremony. The boy references looking at a dancer and seeing flowers appear.
Perhaps what actually happened is that a lady came in to the viewing and brought customary
flowers for the deceased. When the magician, symbolically representing God, appears on stage
with a box that strikingly resembles a coffin both in size and color he points to the boy s
grandmother. In italics the grandfather tells Pearl to go on up with the man (Gaiman 124). This is
a clear hint that he has is dealing with the death of his wife. The scene where she obliges the

Soviet Union. In 1999 Nazarbayev sworn into office for another seven years, although his
political rivals thought he cheated because he won on a technicality. Despite his
authoritarianism, he is a very popular leader. Kazakhstan has the potential for becoming one of
central Asia s richest countries because of its huge mineral and oil resources and its liberalized
economy. In 2000, they discovered oil in Kazakhstan s portion of the Caspian Sea. The largest oil

Lab Report On Boiling Points
Laura Breuning Lab Report 4
Abstract This experiment evaluated and reviewed the concepts used to identify unknown
molecules. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared
spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown
molecules.
Introduction
In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify
unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular
forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what
functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other
intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. The two other factors that affect
boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain (3 Trends
that affect boiling points). Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies,
which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly
tied to certain functional groups (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated
during this lab.
Methods
Part 1: Melting point
First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube. Collect a small amount of the #666
unknown in the capillary test tube approximately enough to cover 2 cm of the capillary test tube.
Then place the capillary test

Financial Crisis By Mainstream And Heterodox Economists
The occurrence of financial crises following financial reforms is attributed by mainstream
economists to economic reforms being incomplete or to their incorrect sequencing. Briefly explain
this argument. Focus your briefing note on the reasons advanced particularly by heterodox
economists to criticize this argument. The purpose of this note is to briefly examine the different
approaches in interpreting the financial crisis by mainstream and heterodox economists. To
emphasize the drawbacks in the neoclassical (mainstream) view, and criticize it from the post
Keynesian (major heterodox) viewpoint. The latest financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 will
definitely become a cornerstone in the history of economic though and, correspondingly, the
development of capitalistic system. It is a turning point as the neoclassical (mainstream) theory
that has seemingly been a driver of the late 30 years of development lacks the ability to
comprehensively explain the causes of frequent economic downturns, and provide policy
implications for preventing crisis from occurring again and again. However, the masterminds of the
neoclassical school have suggested some reasonable arguments in favor of free markets, liberalized
interest rates, trade, foreign direct investments, privatization, deregulation, and property rights
summarized in the list of 10 reforms (John Williamson, 2004) and called for more financial
liberalization policies. While the financial markets are liberalized and the real

Research Paper On Sisters Of The Gion
Sisters of the Gion was an interesting black and white Japanese film by Kenji Mizoguchi. Kenji
Mizoguchi was a director that had themes of female sexual exploitation and male interference
with feminist intimation (Gleich). This film showed how women was treated in the society of the
1930 s. During this time period women did not have a lot of say over there lifestyle. An element
that I found engaging was camera techniques that Mizoguchi used. Sisters of the Gion had a lot of
long shots and slow pacing. This may have been a slow place filmbecause it was contemporary art.
In the beginning of the film Mizoguchi opens Sisters of the Gion with a bunch of men that seems to
be having an auction to collect valuables (women). This camera movement

  • 2. Carson Robison s Song Analysis One of the most influential wars to the United States s homefront was not one of direct conflict and bloodshed but rather a battle of perceived threat from Communism and the Soviet Union. This state of turmoil, known as the Cold War, grew by feeding off the fear that encompassed the general public. Post World War II, America s atomic monopoly and a booming economy made the people feel safe and secure. Unfortunately, the quick growth of Communismin the eastern hemisphere began to make the United Statesrealize the potential of Soviet dominance. Following major events like the Truman Doctrine in 1947 and the successful detonation of the U.S.S.R s atomic bomb in 1949, citizens were forced to conform to a certain set of standards to avoid being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically prevalent in the music and movie industries, artists felt unable to express their true selves. Instead, they felt obliged to prove the country they supported the generalized, anti communist ideology. Carson Robison s song I m No Communist of 1952, embodies how an artist thought to present his or her persona. In the song, Robison discusses his love for America s capitalistic government, disdain towards Communism, and disapproval of Stalin. Rather than being able to create free music, Robison and his peers felt the need to convey their loyalty to America. The cinematic industry also mirrored this response with a stream of anti communist movies which satirized the Soviet Union and ridiculed the principles of Communism. Movies Dr. Strangelove and Seven Days in May, both released in 1964, are few examples of the movement that sprouted from Hollywood around 1949. The plots of these movies typically show over exaggerated fighting between the United States and Soviet Union, depicting the latter always as the villains, and the Americans as the victors. Why? Spurred by fears like the HUAC, the blacklist, and the creation of the atomic bomb, producers and artists felt the that if they did not show allegiance to the United States they would end up being subject to the same treatment that the Hollywood Ten received. The sole presence of this restricted popular culture stream and the simple fact that members of the artistic and cinematic industries felt the need to advocate for anti communist ideology to avoid Communist suspicion shows how freedom of expression was unequivocally marginalized from the late 1940 s to the ... • 4. Psychological Abuse In Slavery By Harriet Jacobs Psychological abuse is characterized by non physical acts to affect inner thoughts. As a slave, Harriet Jacobs experienced a great amount of pain and suffering while her and her family members were slaves of Dr. Flint. She narrated her experiences after realizing she was a slave at six years old. From an analysis of Harriet Jacobs experience in slavery, she suffered more from psychological abuse because she was treated like property, manipulated by Dr. Flint, and emotionally depressed. One of the reasons why Harriet Jacobs suffers more from psychological abuse was because she was treated as property. Upon the death of her generous mistress, Harriet Jacobs was later relocated into her mistress niece s house. The mistress niece was only five years old which made Jacobs the property of her father, Dr. Flint who made Harriet Jacobs life a living hell while being a slave in his house. From the time that Jacobs and her brother William first walked into their new master s home, they knew their lives were about to get worse: When we entered our new home we encountered cold looks, cold words, and cold treatment, (Ch.2). Many children are affected by Autism. It limits a child s ability to connect, socialize and relate to others. Autism is a growing disorder and every year more children are born with autism. There is no cure for autism; there are no known facts about what causes autism in children at an early age, just possible causes. ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups (CDC, 2016, p.1). Autism is a real threat, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls it a public health crisis and estimates that 1 out of every 88 children and 1 out of every 54 boys in the United States fits the diagnostic criteria (Melillo, 2013, p. 4). • 7. The Northanger Abbey And The Vicar Of Wakefield One question that comes up in older novels such as Northanger Abbey and The Vicar of Wakefield is that of the economy of love or more specifically marriage. Today, people take for granted that people get married for love and little else. The idea of marriage as an economic decision is a foreign and fascinating idea in today s society, but it was very prominent in Goldsmith s and Austen s times and that is reflected in their novels. Take first, Goldsmith s The Vicar of Wakefield and what role romantic loveplays in the novel. The Vicar himself presents many different arguments about how his daughters should marry throughout the novel, some of these contradicting each other and very few of them in favor of love as a motive of marriage. At first, it seems that he wants his daughters to marry men of their own social class, and discourages his oldest from pursuing Mr. Thornhill on the basis that disproportioned friendships ever terminate in disgust (Goldsmith 15). He likewise rejects the benevolent Mr. Burchell as a suitor for his youngest daughter because ...he is poor, and perhaps deserves poverty; for he has neither the ambition to be independent, nor the skill to be useful (Goldsmith 17). Later, however, he looks more closely at the characters of his daughters respective suitors and seems to set aside, if not abandon altogether, the issue of marrying within one s own class. • 8. The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer Essay Geoffrey Chaucer was a famed late 14th century English poet and author. Born in London in 1343, Chaucer s early life or education is not well known. Most of what is known about him stems from his professional work. He is most well known for his works as an author and poet. Amongst scholars he is accredited the title of Father of English literature and is widely considered to be one of, if not outright, the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages. Chaucer would write many well known works over the course of the latter half of his life, his most famous and critically acclaimed literary work being The Canterbury Tales. With Chaucer starting composition between 1386 and 1389, The CanterburyTales was originally envisioned by him to be an anthology of four stories from each of the twenty nine characters that are introduced in the General Prologue of the book. Unfortunately, either due to revising or his untimely death on October 25, 1400 at the age of 57, only 24 stories out of a proposed 120 were completed, leaving The Canterbury Tales far from completion. Nevertheless, its incomplete status did not stop the work from becoming highly popular. The Canterbury Tales story revolves around a narrator who joins a group twenty nine people on a spring time pilgrimage to Canterbury. Each character is described in detail of both their looks and personality by the narrator and at the request of the host of the inn the group stays at, each character tells an amusing story to spend time ... How we trade with each other allows for transnational cinema to be present and is the basis for an understanding, which connects people across geographical borders. Following the recent European referendum it is relevant to mention how this will affect the UK s filmindustry regarding trade. The MEDIA Scheme/Creative Europefunding will be stopped, co productions with different countries will be harder to achieve in the short term, British/European co productions may need new legislation, and fewer UK films will be shown in European cinemas as well as many other negative outcomes (Follows, 2016). However this shows how much transnationalism affects UK trade, company distribution and future films success as well as the impact which politics has upon the film industry. This shows how not only cast/crewmembers nationalities, the location and the storyline matters in transnational cinema, but the trade and distribution after the film is made all enhance the transnationality of the piece. One thing that uses magnetic fields is the electric motor, which is used in many household appliances, such as electric fans, microwave ovens, and other small appliances. In this instance the electric motor has an electric current, giving it also this magnetic field. An electric motor converts electricity into mechanical motion. Most electric motors work by electromagnetism, but motors based on electrostatic forces also exist. The overarching concept is that a force is generated when a current carrying element is subjected to a magnetic field. In a cylindrical motor, the rotor rotates because a torque is developed when this force is applied at a given distance from the axis of the rotor. Most electromagnetic motors are rotary, but... • 11. Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity, however it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to precisely define its presence. Rather than being ontologically real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a personal synthesis of our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time s creation are reflected in our minds, our genetics, and our societies. Thus, by examining how we continue to advance as a species and society, we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolutionto better understand the origins, and consequences of the phenomena of time and thought. Martin Heidegger sums his lecture The Concept of Time with the assertion that Time is Dasein ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A meme is described by Dawkins as a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation, and the occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary society. Today, tunes, ideas, catch phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches, seemingly last no longer than the blink of an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than drifting toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be shifting toward the most fit memes and ideologies. Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer our lives as a sacrifice for the propagation of our society s ideology. Consequently, societal and ideological evolutions appear to closely follow the three main Darwinian tenets of evolution. What are colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for their comedic appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon called memes to show what I am talking about on a small scale. The first of the Darwinian tenets holds that more individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588). This applies to memes in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely shared, or parodied, as others. The second and third tenets of Darwinian evolution provide an answer as to which memes do get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among individuals, and if they vary in a way to make them more likely to survive, then they will also be more likely to propagate themselves into the next generation (Darwin 540). In terms of the evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own traits, and, should one have some quality that makes it more appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To help an individual feel more at ease it is our job to know the causes, effects, impacts, and treatments of their phobia. This would help to completely understand the phobia and in the end, help us all to support each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. A Research On Safe Environment Essay Safe Environment A safe environment allows for a student s basic needs to be met, which can be a great preventative measure to inappropriate student behavior. This safe environment should be psychologically safe in that students can feel free to share and explore ideas and knowledge. Additionally, the environmentshould be physically safe, in the setup of the classroom and behavior of the students. Without a safe environment, students aren t free to value learning and come to be a lifelong learner. Positive Relationships Contributing factors to a safe environment are positive relationships, including student teacher, student student, and parent teacher. In developing each of these relations, I will be present and pleasant. To develop positive student teacher relationships I will begin the school year by getting to know each student. I will do this through having the students answer questions about themselves on a notecard or on a self portrait. These questions might include their favorite color, favorite animal, favorite subject, and an interesting fact. I would also share my answers with the students so they can get to know me. Another strategy I will use is greeting my students at the door as they enter and leave, to develop the relationship in the classroom and show that I continue to care as they leave. Another crucial part of this relationship is to show your belief in them. I will exemplify this by calling on all students equally by using the notecards developed at ... One interesting thing is that there is a landlocked, surrounded on all sides by land, country of Lesotho. This is evident by Map 1, shown below, that shows South Africa in the red box and the darker brown country within South Africa being Lesotho. Which still remains true today, Lesotho is still its own country with an unsettled relationship with South Africa. Map 1: South Africa s location on Africa (South Africa, 2015) The country has a very long history from our great ancestors to the extremely wide variety of wild and unique animals. However, this land has been under quite a bit of bloodshed and insatiability. From its days of slave trade, British control and the bloody revolutions these people have been through, it has shaped the country as a whole. The one thing that seems to have impacted the development of the country has been the issue of disease and the mortality rate of woman and children. One thing that could be done to greatly reduce these issues would be to invest more in the sanitation of the available water resources. This issue has been in progress of being improved but is lagging behind due to the decolonization of the country. During negotiations with the African National Congress, the South ... Based on personal experience, personality style and emotional concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be banned. Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their actions do not violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking in public places rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who breathe in the smoke. The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is that second hand smoke can cause disease as well as death in adults and children... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their freedom, however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in danger. Smoking makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants and other public areas the smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a smoking section and a nonsmoking section in a building is better than mixing everyone together. However, if we drop dye into water, doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking section all through the building in the air, therefore, spreading the dangers with it. For this reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s Report concluded, scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become stickier, damage the lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce heart rate variability, potentially increasing the risk of heart attack (http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E b=35422#two). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first process of choosing the right information system for SUC is defining the goals of the organization. The first goal is to provide safe, quality healthcare to patients. The second goal is to maintain the necessary financial stability to provide that care. Another important goal is to maintain accurate and secure information within the organization as well as to outside entities as necessary. Investigating, or attaining a clear understanding of how to achieve these goals is the first step. Defining what the system must do to achieve these goals, or system analysis, is the next step. System design will then need to be done to determine how to meet these goals. System implementation is the next step. This occurs when the components that were determined in the implementation step are created or obtained. System maintenance and review is the last on going step that will maintain the organization and determine what modifications are needed to continually meet the company goals. To determine the effectiveness of the chosen information system, SUC will use the collective information gathered by people, procedures, databases, and devices within the organization, which is known as using the Management Information System (MIS). This process begins with decision making. There are three stages in decision making: intelligence, design, and choice. Problems are discovered and information of what has caused the problem or what is needed

Unlike Miyazaki s usual entertainment first, lessons second approach, Princess Mononoke was produced to inspire people to think about the issues within the film. In Princess Mononoke, Miyazaki explores themes such as the environment and the conflict between humans and nature, and pacifism. Environmentalism is often depicted in Miyazaki s films, due to his belief that people are intended to live amongst nature. The basis of Princess Mononoke is centered around the forest, which is alive and thriving despite the growing threat of industrilisation. Throughout the movie, beautiful and enchanting Japanese landscapes are shown, with clear signs of life (such as the Kodama spirits) in the forest. Most researchers have agreed that its core cause is poor phonological awareness, that is, the poor ability to manipulate sounds in speech. Learning to read English poses particular challenges for children with dyslexiadue to its inconsistent letter sound mappings. The experiment includes a boiling point trial, a melting point trial and an infrared spectrometry trial. All of the following were proved as sufficient methods to identify the unknown molecules. Introduction In this lab, we will be using boiling points, melting points and infrared spectrometry to identify unknown compounds. Boiling points are affect by three key factors the first being intermolecular forces. Inter molecular affect boiling point based on bond strength. This is directly related to what functional group is attached. Ionic bonding is said to cause a higher boiling point then the other intermolecular forces, due to a strong attraction in the bond. The two other factors that affect boiling point would be the number of carbons and amount of branching of carbon chain (3 Trends that affect boiling points). Infrared spectrometry is irradiating a sample with infrared frequencies, which then shows what frequencies were absorbed. The absorbance numbers can then be directly tied to certain functional groups (Klein, 2007). All of these concepts will be used and evaluated during this lab. Methods Part 1: Melting point First collect a melting point apparatus, a capillary test tube.
