Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
system
AFTER
BEFORE
With the right features, BRT is able to avoid the causes of delay that
typically slow regular bus services, like being stuck in traffic and
queuing to pay on board.
BRT Lane & Corridor
 Form the core of sustainable urban corridor.
 Along the corridor, new protected bike lanes and pedestrian
improvement for active transport users – redesigned intersection and
widen the sidewalks.
 Parking management improvement – removed parking spaces along the
corridor and better managed.
Level Boarding
 Safety purpose.
 Convenient for disabled people.
Off-board Fare Collection
 Ticketing is not required - Increase the efficiency as using only 1 touch
card.
 Get a better fare for the trip.
New York City
Department of Transportation • Station locations are based on population and transit
needs.
• Citi Bike has an aggressive safety campaign, with the
cardinal rules of the road printed right on the handle
bars, station kiosks and in multiple language on kiosk
screen.
• DOT giving away more than 75,000 free bikes helmets
and Bike New York increases “learn to ride” classes
across the city.
Citi Bike –- largest bike sharing
program in the United States
Create a nearly zero emissions GHG of transportation modes.
Linked with other type of transportation.
Bike Sharing Program
• Introducing 426 multispace meters to streets where
parking had previously free or informally controlled by
the franeleros.
• Help regulated 6000 parking spaces and requesting an
expansion of the on-street payment and management
zones.
• By applying demand-based parking management
principles using parking meters and a large team of
enforcement officers.
• Earlier stage is focus in commercial zone.

Parking Reformation
Variable Parking Charging System - Mostly funded by the Department of
Transportation’s Urban Partnership Program.
• Taking effects in April, 2011.
• The system uses wireless sensors and digital parking meters to alert
drivers as to where spaces are available.
• The incremental charge adjustment is programmed to aim 15% of the
spaces on a block to be available at any times.
• Drivers can locate available on-street parking spaces using smart
phone, text message or going via the website.

ZipCar (one of the largest car
sharing networks in the world)
operates as a subsidiary of Avis
Budget Group.
ZipCar –- Honda Civic Hybrid: part
of Zipcar’s clean fuel vehicle fleet.
• Avis Budget Group purchased ZipCar on March 14, 2013.
• Help to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road
by replacing with the sustainable sharing car.
• It works little like smart-dock bike-sharing system: the
user can check out Zipcar from one location then return it
to different Zipcar location, but still only designated Zipcar
parking spaces.
• More than 500 Zipcars are available in more than 175
locations in the greater Los Angeles area.
• In mid 2015, Zipcar and Metro announced a partnership
that places Zipcars at selected Metro rail stations.
Car Sharing Program
Presented by:
• The world’s first month-long presentation of an innovative urban transportation culture –
September 2013
• Over 4,300 residents and Festival visitors experienced an ecomobile lifestyle for 30 days by
favouring walking, cycling, and mass-transport (low emission, safe and resource-efficient).
• Through the EcoMobility World Festival, the ancient core of Suwon has learned through direct
experience the challenges and the thrills of closing the doors of their community to cars for an
entire month.
• Prompted with question:
Should they reunite with cars or embrace the ecomobile lifestyle for good??
EcoMobility Festival
• Based on pay-as-you-use principle, motorists are
charged when they use priced roads during peak hours.
• Encourages motorist to change their mode of transport,
travel route or time of travel.
Pay depend on:
1) Passenger Car Unit (PCU) Equivalent
E.g: Motorcycle are 0.5 PCU; big buses are 2PCU
2) Time that enter the restricted zone
During peak hours, charges change every half hour
to take into account traffic volume.ERP Gantry at North Bridge Road,

Green Waves
• Designed and implemented to manage vehicular traffic in
the city. Effort to enhance Smart City development.
• The traffic lights communicate between the intersections
and linked across the eight intersections to the command
centre. Each intersection will have an LTE-equipped
controller which controls cameras with analytical
capabilities (mounted above the traffic lights).
• Camera will analyse the traffic situation and intelligently
direct traffic at the intersection to reduce waiting time at
the lights.
• Data collected from the cameras us wirelessly to
transmitted to traffic management command centre (direct
access to the light’s controller).
• LEZ: most effective measure that towns and cities can
take to improve air pollution.
• Areas where access by vehicles is limited by their
emissions. Implemented in area where air pollution
levels are dangerous to health.
• Operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
• Enforcement mechanism: most LEZs are manually
enforced, but cameras and transponders (electronic
device that transmits payments to the toll stations in
transpondeur) are used, general country by country.Signage: signs at the boundary and
side of the road o see where it

diesel-powered commercial vehicles in London.
Low Emission Zone (LEZ)
• World’s widest avenue with more than 20 lanes of car traffic
in the centre of the city and underwent an impressive ‘transit
makeover’.
• Two largest efforts that the city paid: first is the consideration
of the bike rider by adding protected cycle lanes to the
downtown; second effort is to redesign the dozens of
intersections.
• Improve the safety of the pedestrian by increase the vision of
the pedestrian and reduce the crossing distances for them.

• Parklets: miniature open public spaces that aim to fill
park inequalities in mixed-use neighborhoods with a
high concentration of foot traffic.
• For the owner that plan to reform the space to parklet,
their proposal need to have initial review where the
parklet location need to meets the minimum location
requirement.

• Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF): charges for the loaded

• Part of the trucker switch to off peak period due to the
unwilling to pay the TMF and this will help to reduce
the congestion at the gates and within the terminal
area.
• Successful in term of exceeding objectives of diverting
the truck traffic from day time to off-peak time periods.

• Intention: to create a step change in freight deliveries by
considering the last stage of supply chain when propose
a freight logistics journey.
• To change the behavior of the private industry and
consumer to create a better use of existing transport
infrastructure and networks.
• Aim to decrease the carbon dioxide (CO2) level in the city
centres and freight hubs.
• Very encouraging to utilize more environmentally
friendly and low emission powered transportation for
delivery process.
