Poor Ethnic Groups
Poor ethnic groups in the United States According to the Census Bureau one in seven people in the
United States live in poverty. Today, more than 45 million people in the United States are living in
poverty. Those 45 million people in poverty are constantly struggling with getting nutritious food, safe
shelter, and proper clothing for the weather. Throughout the United States, there is a dilemma that
certain ethnic groups are in deeper poverty than another. Here we will look into why one ethnic group
is better off than the next. The United States uses the Census Bureau to determine which ethnic groups
are in poverty. Using an economic poverty measure calculating the minimum amount of income
needed to meet the basic needs. This varies my family size and compensation also. The four groups
we will look into are African American, Hispanic, white, and Asian doing this will determine why
each group is in more poverty than another. According to the Census Bureau, African Americans make
up roughly 22% of the poverty rate, annually making an average of $39,490 a year. This is the lowest
poverty rate out of all of the ethnic groups. Why is it that African Americans have a higher poverty
rate than others? One problem holding African American people back from having a better lifestyle
are the three norms that most successful people have. The three norms are to have a high school
degree, work full time, and have a child (if you want to) after age 21. Without having these three

Flowers For Algernon Essay
Flowers for Algernon Daniel Keyes was born on August 9, 1972. He grew up in New York and
attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Maritime Service at 17,
working as a ship s purser on oil tankers. Many of his works were published in the New York
newspapers. The inspiration for Flowers for Algernon struck while he was waiting for a train in 1945.
His book was created on the single thought, What would happen if it were possible to increase a
person s intelligence? Fifteen years later, the thought grew into a novella which was published in the
Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1959. It also won the Hugo Award for best short story in
1960. In 1966, Keyes expanded it into a novel which tied for the Nebula ... Show more content on

But that doesn t stop him. HE has incredible motivation. Three times a week, he goes to Beckman

mouse, Algernon, can beat him at the maze games. But after his procedure, everything begins to
change. Although he becomes amazingly smart, he finds a slip in Professor Nemur s work showing
that his intelligence to be only temporary. Algernon soon loses his intelligence, but before Charlie
completely loses his, he makes a point to tell the reader to leave fresh flowers for Algernon. When
Charlie begins to feel only as another lab animal to Professor Nemur, he takes Algernon and they flee
to New York where Dr. Stratuss and Professor Nemur can t find them. While there, Charlie does some
of his own research showing that Nemur made a mistake. The intelligence that Charlie gained through
the operation will only be temporary, and he would lose it as quick as he gained it. Charlie calls this
the Algernon Gordon Effect. After losing his intelligence, he quickly forgets everything. He decides to

Rap And Rap
I m pretty sure that if you are reading this than you probably already know what rap is and according
to dictionary.com rap is a type of popular music of US black origin in which words are recited rapidly
and rhythmically over a prerecorded, typically electronic instrumental backing. but first you need to
understand that rap and Hip Hip are not the same they just are so similar that they often get confused.
agree strongly with that definition Indeed It s perfect. I m here today to inform you on how the genre
of rap correlates directly with the English language and how it has played a role in not only mankind
but also me and my life specifically. To know about rap first you must have a little knowledge on
music and the history it here s a little background on it. Music has a vast history and with it being
around so long you d figure that it has had an impact on lots of people. Music has impacted our culture
s history since the start of mankind according to John black in his article The origin of music, he went
very deep into the history of music itself and stated The oldest musical instrument ever discovered is
believed to be the Divje Babe flute, discovered in a cave in Slovenia in 1995, though this has been
disputed. The item is a fragment of the femur of a cave bear, which has been dated at 60,000 43,000
years old, which had been pierced with spaced holes. so I figure that if music has been around for that
long then it has had an impact on a great deal of people in

Analysis of the Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing Essay
Analysis of the Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing
For my shot analysis I chose a shot from the Spike Lee Movie Do the Right Thing. This is the second
shot following the climactic riot scene. It features Da Mayor and Mother Sister reacting to the
hellacious events of the previous night. The block was just devastated by a melee that broke out
because the police killed Radio Raheem after he and Sal got in an altercation that was triggered by the
volume of Radio Raheem s boom box. Though at a very superficial level the fight was about the loud
stereo, the real significance of the fight had more to do with the culmination of anger and tension
between the characters of the film caused by prejudice and ignorance. This paper will analyze ... Show

The camera follows the elders of the block, Da Mayor and Mother Sister, as they talk in her bedroom.
For a rare moment in the film Da Mayor s and Mother Sister s eyes are at exactly the same level,
showing that as different as the two may have seemed, they are very much the same. Then the camera
slowly pulls out as the two stand and sluggishly walk down a hallway toward a window. Now, where a
director would typically have to cut and setup a new shot, Lee pulls the camera straight out of the
window as Mother Sister and Da Mayor survey the block. The audience would expect to see next
exactly what Da Mayor and Mother Sister are looking at, but instead Lee quickly pans over in the
opposite direction to reveal Mookie standing in the street bellow. By doing this Lee makes a
connection that both the elders and Mookie are, in the words of Mother Sister, still standing. The shot
is not particularly tight but still has a cramped feel due to the clutter of things in the background, the
heavy shadowing, and the red tint on the lighting. The red lighting gives sense of volatility to the shot,
which is contrasted by the slow camera and character movements. These slow movements are
analogous to the block as, regardless of how slowly, it too will go on and life will continue. This shot
is in the tradition of mise en scene advocates like Bazin in that,

Civil Rights Lawyer
As a first generation black immigrant, I have experienced several encounters in my life that have led
me to believe our justice system is broken. For this reason, I would like to become a Civil Rights
lawyer so I can aid those in the corrupt justice system in the U.S and allow them to express their
inalienable rights that is so granted to all by our constitution. Civil Rights lawyers advocate for equal
protection under the law regardless of race, gender, region and many more factors. These types of
lawyers do this by protecting and urging for justice by the rights and liberties stated in the U.S.

how since she works for the government and does not own her firm, her schedule is not as flexible as

clients. Transactional lawyers work mainly in the office and leave workfree as they head home, thus

A Brief Biography of Lord Byron Essay
Lord Byron Biography
Since the dawn of humanity, many individuals significantly impacted the world. These scholarly
impacts pertain to categories such as science, mathematics, literature, politics, music, and athletics.
However, of all things, literature has the most powerful influence on the global society. The
achievements of literature are known to strike deeper into the hearts of people than any other
intellectual creation of man. In fact, many of the most compelling works of literature come from
George Gordon Byron (The sixth Lord Byron) , who is considered one of the most instrumental
Romantic Writers of all time and in his era was incredibly renowned for his dramatic, lyrical, and
narrative works. He is famous for writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George Gordon Byron was born on January 22, 1788 ( Lord Byron Biography ). He suffered from
burdensome birth defects, including a clubbed right foot and an injured Achilles tendon. Forced to
walk on the balls of his feet, Byron was challenged in his movements for the entire duration of his life
(Minser). His physical limitations ultimately shaped his determined character. Byron was conceived
from the conjoinment two aristocratic families. His father, Captain John Mad Jack Byron was a
descendent of William the Conqueror. George Byron s mother, Catherine Gordon of Gright , was a
short tempered and bluntly spoken heiress who enjoyed boasting about her direct ancestry to King
James I of Scotland ( Lord Byron (George Gordon) ). John Byron and Catherine Gordon did not get
along due to conflicting views on personal finance. John favored accumulating a good number of
debts to appear upper class, as opposed to Catherine, who preferred to spend within the means of the
family s income. As a result, later down the road John Byron abandoned his wife and young George to
escape creditors and perished in 1791 (Valenciennes, France), when his son was merely three years of
age (Minser). Subsequently to the fact that John had wasted away the Gordon

The Effect Of Parapsychology On The Existence Of Science
Not a lot of people can say they have had a paranormal experience. It is the kind of thing that happens
once in a lifetime, and usually it is not anything big. But those who do have these experiences pertain
that belief in the supernatural, and it is these documented experiences that have brought about the
study of parapsychology. Is there something to these claims or is it due to mental illusions?
Parapsychology is a highly debated branch of science because of the existence of phenomena that
cannot be explained, the main argument being in the existence of physics and whether there is
something beyond or not. s Parapsychology is the study of supernatural phenomena or more
specifically, psychic phenomena. Most parapsychologists divide ... Show more content on

Even the learned expressed interest in these, however, the wide acceptance of these occurrences may
have been due to the insufficient education of the general public. After the Enlightenment, which
occurred in the 18th century, the existence of deities and magic was more widely contested and
doubted, leading to the discrediting of these phenomena as science. One of the first scientists to
attempt a scientific study of psychic phenomena was Franz Anton Mesmer in the 1700 s; he
experimented with and attempted to patent the mesmerism technique, more commonly known as
hypnotism. Even though his method did not achieve scientific recognition, shifting religious beliefs
allowed for the widespread Spiritualism movement, which allowed for the use of mediums and the
like (Psychicscience.org). Modern parapsychology came about in the 1920 s with the invention of
statistical tools and the efforts of a researcher by the name of J.B. Rhine. Rhine had three aims through
his experiments: to provide data on parapsychological phenomena rather than to attempt to prove their
existence, to achieve scientific recognition and to prove that psychic ability was not limited to certain
people and was a part of human psyche all along just waiting to be discovered. Though he was not
necessarily successful in his goals, Rhine did change his field in that now psychic study is not limited
to individuals with psychic talent, rather a

The Khmer Rouge And The Cambodian Genocide
Sisowath Doung Chanto was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and lost his life to the Cambodian
Genocide, an unfortunate event that caused the death of around one and a half million people (Leslie

genocide as well as the accompanying famine, rebellion, and war. In 1975 1979, an infamous
communist regime, called the Khmer Rouge, headed by Pol Pot, brutally killed twenty five percent of

Chanto was in the category of the old generation, so he attempted to remain at home along with his
family. This led to the Khmer Rouge s forcible removal of Chanto from his home where he was
physically abused and sentenced to death instead of going to the labor camps, which were known for
their abhorrent conditions.
Chanto was seized from his family s home by the Khmer Rouge, restrained, and thrown with a few
other men into a decrepit church. During his final days, he was starved and subjected to beatings from
his brutal captors who made him pay for his bravery in standing up to Pol Pot s soldiers. The
viciousness of Chanto s treatment at the hands of Khmer Rouge officials can be summarized in one
sentence from his daughter, which she is quoted as saying after her mother had tracked down his
captors in the years after the massacre. She asserted that the guards had seen him with, or inflicted
upon him these injuries, as can be assumed, without reason or provocation other than their power and
his helplessness. As she said, [Chanto had received] bruises from the beating. His back and ribs were
broken by the constant beating by the young Khmer Rouge Cadres. The beating was so severe that it
paralyzed his speech and consciousness. By this time, he was just lying on the floor, unable to move

allows us to have the necessary understanding of the person and the situation so a proper resolution
can be reached. With the proper communication in place trust can be established, respect will be
added, environment that support creative ideas, affection, problem solving and caring can grow.

The Similarities and Differences between American Federalism and Indian Federalism
Being the largest democratic countries in the world, both United States and India are based on
federalism in their political structure. US became a Federal Republic State by promulgating its
constitution in the year1789; whereas India became a Socialist, Sovereign, Secular, Democratic

5)Powers of Checks and Balances:
Though there exists a clear cut division of labor known as separation of powers into executive,
legislature and judiciary in both countries, still there is a threat. to democracy. A strong and dynamic
leadership at the helm of powers as the executive and acting with unlimited powers may lead to
arbitrariness. After all power corrupts power; absolute power corrupts absolutely; in the result
democracy may become a laughing stock and virtually unworkable. Hence, in order to prevent
unwieldy growth of any one of these three divisions, a fantastic mechanism known as powers of
checks and balances has been maintained in both countries. In other words, each division of power is
somehow or other checked and controlled by other divisions of power.
In the US, the President as the chief executive power appoints his members of Kitchen Cabinet and he
is the Supreme Commander in Chief of Army,Navy and the Air Force. He appoints the Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court of the US. He enters into treaties with other countries. However, his treaties must
be approved by the House of Senate.Otherwise, the treaty will not come into force. Though President
Woodrow Wilson was the chief architect of the League of Nations that came into being after the first
world war,US could not become a member of it since the House of Senate did not approve it.Thus
important policy decisions must be necessarily approved by the House of Senate, which

Empowerment in the Workplace
Introduction
I am actually going to look at two areas, Empowerment in combination with Delegation. Not only do I
think I can improve in these areas but it will also improve the well being of my employees. I want
people to feel about work how I did a few years back. You learnt and contributed as much as you
could. You did not ‘clock watch and you were eager and hungry for more work I believe I was an
empowered employee.
The long hours I have been working has lead me to believe I need to empower my employees and also
delegate successfully to them. When I actually go on holiday I find myself at work very late trying to
‘tidy up so I can go with a clear conscious. I find myself sharing more information in the day before I

Basically the mission statement is trying to raise my awareness and skill in the area of empowerment,
being more conscious of the techniques used and needed to raise employee empowerment.
When preparing the mission statement it was interesting to take note of the following:
Both management and employees interpret empowerment from their own viewpoints to suit their own
needs and build up expectations of what the programme will bring. For management, empowerment
promises a more committed and involved workforce who are willing to take responsibility at lower
levels. Whilst for employees, empowerment pledges autonomy and the ability to move to a more
equitable position within their organization. The failure of these expectations to share similar
intentions or goals means that the psychological contract between management and worker could fail,
promoting feelings of is trust on both sides (Hill Huq, 2004)
So when developing this mission statement I need to account not only management s perspective but
the alternate view of the employee s perspective.
Personal Mission Statement
My name is x and my mission is to empower my employees.
I want the individuals to become a team. I want my team to make personal sacrifices, perform beyond

The Aztec Empire Essay
Who were the Aztecs? Why were they considered to be an empire even greater than the Romans? And
how was Hernan Cortes able to defeat them? These are some of the questions that people ask about
these indigenous people. These people are known as the Aztecs but originally called themselves
Mexica. They came to Mexico in the early thirteenth century and from there they started to develop a
social structure and government consisting of priests, kings, peasants, and soldiers. Besides having a
very organized society the Aztecs had a very large and intimidating army consisting of full time
soldiers and peasants. By 1427 A.D. the Aztec empire became the dominant group and controlled most

They had cannons to bring down the Aztec homes and temples, they had swords that easily cut
through Aztec spears, but what I think gave the Spaniards such a great advantage was the armor they
wore and the horses they rode on. The reason being that wearing armor would make killing the
Spaniards that much harder and being mounted on a horse only made them more intimidating in the
eyes of the Aztecs as well as giving them the fighting advantage.
The second reason that the Aztecs fell to the Spaniards is just as important as the first and it s the
Indian tribes that assisted the Spaniards in finding and defeating the Aztecs. Although there were a few
Indian tribes that became allies and assisted the Spaniards it was the Cempoala Indian tribe that helped
them set up a base on a shore of a village that Cortes named Vera Cruz when he claimed it in the name
of Spain. It was at this base that supplies could come in with less danger to the Spaniards and also it
was the same shore where Cortes burned his ships in order to keep his men from retreating to Cuba.
Besides the Cempoala tribe the Tlaxcalans after being defeated by the Spaniards gave food, water,
translators, and gifts to Cortes and his men as well as one thousand Indians when the battle against the
Aztecs began. The reason for the Tlaxcalans and the rest of the Indian tribes giving so much support

Glaciers Climate Change
The Glaciers and Climate Change lecture notes begin with a section about Glaciers: Indicators of
Climate Change. In it, students are introduced to the definition of what glaciers are and some basic
facts about them. Specifically, glaciers are thick masses of ice that originate on land and form from an
accumulation, compaction, and crystallization of snow formed over many years. Presently, glaciers
cover about 10% of the earth s land area and hold a significant amount of fresh water. These masses
can be powerful agents of erosion and interrupt the hydrologic cycle. Glaciers are made up of two
main zones: accumulation, in which glaciers grow from snow and ice, and ablation, in which glaciers

This first section also discussed the last ice age during the Pleistocene Epoch during which glaciers
covered around 30% of the earth and enabled migration across land bridges they formed and created

includes land formations such as U Shaped valleys moraines, and drumlins; marine microfossils that
can reveal a lot of information about past glaciation; and ice core records in the Antarctic and
Greenland. Finally, the last section of the video discussed Causes of Ice Ages. Among these are
Milankovitch cycles, plate tectonics and ocean circulation, and changes in atmospheric composition.
The Greenhouse effect was also addressed in this section, with manmade and natural causes being
presented. An explanation of the concern regarding the Greenhouse effect was also discussed: more
melting sea ice will impact several areas of human life including health, agriculture, our forests, our

them when in reality the captors have only given them skewed freedoms. Yet, the captives begin to
want to be a part of their community and begin to hate themselves for those thoughts. The narrator of
Captivity strikes the earth uselessly in her dream where she yearns to be a part of a Native American
ritual, because she knows she never can truly take part. Though the captee s vision can be blurred by
their closeness to the situation, the readers can see that the captors treat the captured with no human
understanding by taking away their families. Ultimately, captors are portrayed negatively, even if their
captives begin to want to be like them by eating their foods and yearning to be a part of their
traditions. In Mary Rowlandson s. A Narrative of the Captivity, Rowlandson becomes more
comfortable with her captors and their culture, by feeling comfortable with the people, though she is
still in captivity and has limited freedoms. The captive becomes comfortable enough with her
surroundings to ask one of the Native Americans to pay her for her services. She has lost some of the
fear she once had. She goes into wigwams without fear of being hurt by the unknown tribe members.

Women In Athens Research Paper
The great city state of Athens was established around 3000 B.Cš and was named after the Greek
goddess of wisdom and military victory, Athena. The Athenian empire lasted until its defeat in the
Peloponnesian war in 404 B.C², but despite its defeat Athens is still the capital of modern day Greece.
Greece is considered to be the cradle of western civilization, but the city in Greece that most lives up
to that claim is Athens as it was the home of democracy, philosophy, and free thinking. Although some
would argue that Sparta was the greater city state do to its skilled army and progressive views in
respect to women, Athens also had a strong army and the strongest navy in the ancient world, one that
was used to drive out the Persians and protect all of Greece⁴. In spite of the fact that women did not
have the same liberties as Athenian men, women were still valued by the Athenians and were
considered to be an important part of society, especially when it came to religion. According to the
World History textbook: Athen Evolves Into a Democracy Women in Athens , Women participating in

North American And Indian Societies
North American and Indian societies may not have a lot of things in common, but they do have
similarities in how their population is separated. India has the caste system and North America has the
social class or class system to divide their population. These two systems are similar but they also
have their differences. According to, Sociology: The Essentials, caste system is defined as a system of
stratification (characterized by low social mobility) in which one s place in the stratification system is
determined by birth. This is also known as an ascribed status. This system in found in the traditional
Hindu population of India (Haviland 256). Although it is found in other parts of the world, India is the
most well known.
The caste system in India is divided into five different levels. Each caste possesses a different dharma,
which specified spate duties and abilities depending on the caste into which you were born. At the
summit was the dharmas of the priestly Brahmin caste, which granted these people control over all
spiritual and religious aspects of society, They also possessed the sacred power of the word, and were
the only caste permitted to read and write. Next there was the warrior Kshatriya caste, whose dharma
was to command the military and to rule the secular world as kings. The merchant Vaishya caste
follows in the traditional ranking. The Vaishyas were viewed by some of their betters as a caste of
thieves who are not called by the name of thief. But

Allegory In The Giver
Allegorical messages appear often in the giver because they are broad with different meanings. The
Giver is a book about a controlled community. This community is based upon sameness which means
everything is the same. They have many rules and things like climate control to maintain the
sameness. There are no individual birthdays either; at the end of the year all the babies born that year
turn one whether they were born the week before or 5 months before, this also helps maintain
sameness. When children turn twelve, at The Ceremony of Twelve, they get their assignments and this
will be their jobs from then until they became an elder. There is one person of the community who
holds all the memory about the past and this person is The Receiver. The protagonist, Jonas, becomes

This book is filled with life lessons, motifs and allegories. It is also about importance of memory, right

experience pain; if nobody had memory of the past then they would have no one to tell them what the
outcome would be, therefore everyone would continue to repeat their mistakes. Jonas knew that it was
wrong to leave the community but he also felt it wasn t right to stay there and felt as though it was
only right for the others to have memory as well. Jonas took Gabriel with him on his journey because
he loved Gabe and he didn t want him to be released. Jonas was determined to make it to Elsewhere

Analysis Of The Film Waco-Rules Of Engagement
A cult, a term widely utilized within popular culture and American society to describe contemporary,
arguably, religious groups has garnered an extremely negative stigma. These media portrayed,
dangerous groups have over time been accumulating and growing amongst other religions. It is
definite that though, historically, these cults have been victims of marginalization, invalidation of their
beliefs and media/government harassment, many of these organizations are minimally nothing of the
demonized ameliorated image, that is enveloped by American society. Hence, from this point forward,
within the briefing piece , it is only with a deep understanding/a religious study interpretation to
acknowledge these groups as new religious movements (NRMs). As a standoff between the FBI and
the religious organization is inevitable, considering illegal acts may be occurring within the NRM, it is
with a better approach to look at the film Waco Rules of Engagement , directed by Amy Sommer, to
avoid any unlawful procedures that could possible occur with the group. Additionally, by gaining
insight with the help of Catherine L. Wessinger s article, How the Millennium Comes Violent the
agency could better handle the situation and avoid the effects of acting too hostile against the
organization. Apparent through watching the entirety of the film, Waco Rules of Engagement ,
extreme measures were enacted upon The Branch Davidians religious followers of David Koresh, by

Porter Argues That If a Firm Is to Attain Competitive...
Porter argues that if a firm is to attain competitive advantage; it must choose between the types of
competitive advantage it seeks, discuss using an industrial example? An industry can be defined as a
group of companies offering products that are closely substituting for each other in order to satisfy
customers. Competitive advantage can be defined as when a firm sustains profit which exceeds the
company s average; it automatically possesses competitive advantage over rivals. The business
strategy for most companies is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. This essay aims to
discuss why firms must choose between types of competitive advantages using an industrial example.

Porter states that there are 2 types of competitive advantage a firm can possess as mentioned above
however , there are 3 generic strategies for achieving competitive advantage in an industry; cost
advantage/leadership, differentiation and focus. The first type of competitive advantage is cost
advantage /leadership, it is when a firm becomes low cost producer in its industry. It minimizes the
cost to the organization of delivering products and services. According to Porter (1985) , there are two
ways of achieving cost leadership either by increasing profit by reducing costs while charging the
average price. Or by increasing market share through charging lower prices while still achieving a
reasonable profit on each sale because your cost has been reduced. Furthermore, companies that are
successful in achieving cost leadership usually have an access to the capital needed to invest in
technology which helps reduce the cost. Also, they have very efficient logistics and a low cost base
such as labor, materials and facilities (Ibid, 1985). Essentially, if a firm can achieve and maintain cost
leadership, it can obtain above average performance whilst the prices are still affordable in that
industry. Hence, the cost leader does not try to be the industry innovator, it seeks to position its
products to appeal to the average customer taste. The aimed goal is to increase efficiency and lower its
costs in relation to competitors. Some of the

The first traits that you can notice on both of the highly descriptive characters is that they are both

David (Goliath; Jonathan; Bathsheba; Absalom) David was the youngest out of 8 brothers and the one
God chose to be the next king of Israelites after King Saul, the current ruler. The Israelites did not get
along with the Philistines and in the Philistines, there was a giant named Goliath who challenged the
people of Israelite to fight him so they there would stop being conflict. No one wanted to fight this
scary giant but David volunteered. He grabbed a sling shot and 5 stones and as Goliath was teasing
him for being so little, he shot Goliath between the eyes and Goliath fell, defeating the giant. Then,
David met Jonathan, and as soon as they finished talking, their souls were entwined. Since Jonathan
loved him, he gave David his sword, bow, and belt and as a result whenever David was sent out on the
missions that Saul put him in, he was very successful. However, in the spring time when all the kings

Bathsheba, who unfortunately was married to Uriah the Hittite. David tricked Uriah into staying at the
kingdom where he got him drunk and placed Uriah in the line of fire, killing him. David told
Bathsheba where she mourned her husband but then she slept with David and bore him a son. While
all of that was happening, Absalom was up early and greeting the townspeople, receiving their trust
and loyalty. Whenever there were sounds of trumpets, the townspeople would say that Absalom

How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a
structural functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can help
physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a school not only
build friendships between team members, but could also give them that competitive edge to become
better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to continue playing basketball for a
school, he ll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to keep the grades above average.
Academically, at a college level, basketball is a good and bad thing. Majority of universities pay
attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades, just to ensure the schools success.
Paragraph 5 = From a structural functionalist perspective, you realize that by the game of basketball,
you can build friendships easily just by having something in common like loving the game. You also
notice how job opportunities can be given by playing the sport or becoming a trainer in the game and
help the athletics stay in shape. By having more job opportunities, it expands the economy. From a
young age, basketball can not only help you academically, but help you get into colleges. Paragraph 1

The Importance Of The Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984
Safety is a fundamental right that we all deserve. Most of us rely on the government to provide this
security. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we getting
what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the authority to
choose the service we are getting back. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) is an Act
of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police officers in England
and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the exercise of those powers.
PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the police and the rights and freedoms
of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of PACE. These powers have been given to
the police to insure our safety however how much power the police really hold is limited by the
PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching the rights of individuals. the question of
whether or not these rights should be abolished is a debatable one.
The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the rights
of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not protected
by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police stop and
search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially breaching
international law.

The Secession Crisis Of 1860-1861
Between 1846 and 1861, many events had impacts on the United States that lead up to the secession
crisis of 1860 1861. Slavery had great impacts on the country, such as the economic effect of the
South overestimating its importance due to the prevalence of slave grown cotton. Westward expansion
had the social effect of the citizens of territories wanting statehood to get into arguments and civil
wars due to popular sovereignty. States rights had the political effect of the southern states believing
that since they agreed to become part of the United States, they could just as easily leave the country.
Without a doubt, the social, economic, and political effects of slavery, westward expansion, and states
rights lead to the secession crisis of 1860 1861, with the political effects being seen the greatest.
Slavery had major economic and social effects that lead up to the secession crisis of 1860 1861.
Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis, as compared to westward expansion and states
rights. Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis because economically, it made the South
overestimate its importance. With large number of slaves working on plantations, the plantations could
produce a lot of goods to send to the North. One major export from the South to the North was cotton.
Since the North was heavily reliant on Southern cotton, the South believed that if they would secede
they would cripple the North s economy, making the North more likely to

Nursing Conflict In Nursing
Introduction
No matter where we find ourselves in life, there will always be some conflict(s) that we will need to
face. Some may be simple issues of miscommunications or more complex, involving several factors,
considerations, and implications that must be accounted for when solving the conflicts at hand.
Settings such as nursing homes, clinics, and hospitals are especially susceptible to high numbers of
conflicts of various natures due to the numerous parties involved in each environment. Nurses, face an
increased risk of getting into conflicts due to the multiple roles they could hold, such as manager,
caregiver, and instructor. According to Dr. Higazee, These roles lead to various types of interactions
among nurses and other healthcare team members, which significantly increase the probability for
conflict to arise in hospital settings among nurses (Higazee, 2015). Therefore, conflicts are not
something that can be eliminated from the lives of nurses; however, nurses can be given the skills and
techniques to manage the conflicts that do arise. Although the word conflict has a negative
connotation attached to it, there is a positive perspective that can be viewed as Finkelman (2016) says,
It can be used to improve if changes are made to address problems related to the conflict (p. 324).

Analyzing Kate Chopin s The Storm

The Storm In the story, The Storm, Kate Chopin tells a reader about what had occurred during a storm

Even though Kate gets into detail of The Storm, she begins the story of Bobinot and Bibi at the
Friedheimer s store during the storm. They decided to stay at the store until the storm had passed. Bibi
is a four year old little boy, and he looked very clever. Also, Bobinot was Bibi s father. They were told
to go to Friedheimer s, a wooden store, to buy shrimp for their dinner. Bobinot explained that this
storm were somber clouds that developed in the west of part, along with a threatening roar of lighting
invading the area (Chopin, 335). While they were at Friedheimer s, they sat by the door on two empty
kegs. Bibi laid his little hand on his father s knee while they watch the storm to pass together (Chopin,

Religion Of Islam In America
Muslims have been treated horribly throughout the history of the United States. The attacks on
September 11, 2001 only further put Muslims in a negative standing with other Americans. Many
Americans view all terrorists as Muslims because of the terrorists claiming the religion of Islam for
their actions. The attacks put fear into the hearts of all Americans eventually leading to the war on
terrorism. With a renewed sense of nationalism many Americans joined the armed forces to take down
the terrorist threat. Americans gained strong feelings of resentment towards Muslims due to the
terrorist threat. Because of this misunderstanding many Muslims are shunned by American society as
a result. Many Muslims due to being shunned stray away and practice their religion in seclusion to
avoid scrutiny. The true terrorists and the contributions that many Muslim Americans make to aid the

Short Essay On Bedbugs
Bedbugs may be little creatures but they are great hitchhikers, very much capable of moving from one
infected site to another. They secretly hide on bedding, clothing, boxes, luggage, and furniture. But if
you really want to sleep like a baby at night and not undergo another bed bug war, here are some tips
to keep the little bloodsuckers out of your bed and hopefully out of your house too.
1. Make Sure that Your Bed Frame Has Feet
One of the most important things that you need to do is to ensure that your bed has feet. If it currently
doesn t have feet, you can always go to a nearby home store and purchase an affordable and simple
bed frame. Believe it or not, your bed frame will serve an important part in bedbug proofing your bed.
2. Put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the purpose why having a bed frame is suggested. The bed bugs may attempt to get inside the
bed bug coasters but will end up being trapped inside. Once the bedbugs are inside, they can no longer
climb up the bed frame. Choose the bed bug coasters that contain compartments because you can track
where bed bugs are coming from or how they go up from the ground and hide under the sheets.
3. If Possible, Move Your Bed Away from Walls or Furniture
This tip is not always possible for every homeowner as some are living in a small space. So,
depending on the size of your room, you can opt to position your bed away from the wall or the
furniture. If you can also put it away from anything that touches the bed, it would be much better. The
reason is simple: these walls or furniture linked to the bed is giving bed bugs a way to cross and reach
your bed while you are sleeping, which of course spells nightmares.
You can keep the bed at least one foot away. Also, bed bugs are not really capable of jumping from the
wall to your bed. So, even if the gap is just one inch, it would also be okay as long as your bed covers
do not also touch the furniture or wall around the bed.
4. Don t Let the Bed Cover Touch the Floor or

  • 2. Poor Ethnic Groups Poor ethnic groups in the United States According to the Census Bureau one in seven people in the United States live in poverty. Today, more than 45 million people in the United States are living in poverty. Those 45 million people in poverty are constantly struggling with getting nutritious food, safe shelter, and proper clothing for the weather. Throughout the United States, there is a dilemma that certain ethnic groups are in deeper poverty than another. Here we will look into why one ethnic group is better off than the next. The United States uses the Census Bureau to determine which ethnic groups are in poverty. Using an economic poverty measure calculating the minimum amount of income needed to meet the basic needs. This varies my family size and compensation also. The four groups we will look into are African American, Hispanic, white, and Asian doing this will determine why each group is in more poverty than another. According to the Census Bureau, African Americans make up roughly 22% of the poverty rate, annually making an average of $39,490 a year. This is the lowest poverty rate out of all of the ethnic groups. Why is it that African Americans have a higher poverty rate than others? One problem holding African American people back from having a better lifestyle are the three norms that most successful people have. The three norms are to have a high school degree, work full time, and have a child (if you want to) after age 21. Without having these three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Flowers For Algernon Essay Flowers for Algernon Daniel Keyes was born on August 9, 1972. He grew up in New York and attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Maritime Service at 17, working as a ship s purser on oil tankers. Many of his works were published in the New York newspapers. The inspiration for Flowers for Algernon struck while he was waiting for a train in 1945. His book was created on the single thought, What would happen if it were possible to increase a person s intelligence? Fifteen years later, the thought grew into a novella which was published in the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1959. It also won the Hugo Award for best short story in 1960. In 1966, Keyes expanded it into a novel which tied for the Nebula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But that doesn t stop him. HE has incredible motivation. • 5. Rap And Rap I m pretty sure that if you are reading this than you probably already know what rap is and according to dictionary.com rap is a type of popular music of US black origin in which words are recited rapidly and rhythmically over a prerecorded, typically electronic instrumental backing. but first you need to understand that rap and Hip Hip are not the same they just are so similar that they often get confused. agree strongly with that definition Indeed It s perfect. I m here today to inform you on how the genre of rap correlates directly with the English language and how it has played a role in not only mankind but also me and my life specifically. To know about rap first you must have a little knowledge on music and the history it here s a little background on it. Music has a vast history and with it being around so long you d figure that it has had an impact on lots of people. Music has impacted our culture s history since the start of mankind according to John black in his article The origin of music, he went very deep into the history of music itself and stated The oldest musical instrument ever discovered is believed to be the Divje Babe flute, discovered in a cave in Slovenia in 1995, though this has been disputed. The item is a fragment of the femur of a cave bear, which has been dated at 60,000 43,000 years old, which had been pierced with spaced holes. so I figure that if music has been around for that long then it has had an impact on a great deal of people in ... • 6. Analysis of the Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing Essay Analysis of the Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing For my shot analysis I chose a shot from the Spike Lee Movie Do the Right Thing. This is the second shot following the climactic riot scene. It features Da Mayor and Mother Sister reacting to the hellacious events of the previous night. The block was just devastated by a melee that broke out because the police killed Radio Raheem after he and Sal got in an altercation that was triggered by the volume of Radio Raheem s boom box. Though at a very superficial level the fight was about the loud stereo, the real significance of the fight had more to do with the culmination of anger and tension between the characters of the film caused by prejudice and ignorance. This paper will analyze ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camera follows the elders of the block, Da Mayor and Mother Sister, as they talk in her bedroom. For a rare moment in the film Da Mayor s and Mother Sister s eyes are at exactly the same level, showing that as different as the two may have seemed, they are very much the same. Then the camera slowly pulls out as the two stand and sluggishly walk down a hallway toward a window. Now, where a director would typically have to cut and setup a new shot, Lee pulls the camera straight out of the window as Mother Sister and Da Mayor survey the block. The audience would expect to see next exactly what Da Mayor and Mother Sister are looking at, but instead Lee quickly pans over in the opposite direction to reveal Mookie standing in the street bellow. By doing this Lee makes a connection that both the elders and Mookie are, in the words of Mother Sister, still standing. The shot is not particularly tight but still has a cramped feel due to the clutter of things in the background, the heavy shadowing, and the red tint on the lighting. The red lighting gives sense of volatility to the shot, which is contrasted by the slow camera and character movements. These slow movements are analogous to the block as, regardless of how slowly, it too will go on and life will continue. This shot is in the tradition of mise en scene advocates like Bazin in that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this reason, I would like to become a Civil Rights lawyer so I can aid those in the corrupt justice system in the U.S and allow them to express their inalienable rights that is so granted to all by our constitution. Civil Rights lawyers advocate for equal protection under the law regardless of race, gender, region and many more factors. These types of lawyers do this by protecting and urging for justice by the rights and liberties stated in the U.S. Constitution or legislation (Thompson). • 13. The Effect Of Parapsychology On The Existence Of Science Not a lot of people can say they have had a paranormal experience. It is the kind of thing that happens once in a lifetime, and usually it is not anything big. But those who do have these experiences pertain that belief in the supernatural, and it is these documented experiences that have brought about the study of parapsychology. Is there something to these claims or is it due to mental illusions? Parapsychology is a highly debated branch of science because of the existence of phenomena that cannot be explained, the main argument being in the existence of physics and whether there is something beyond or not. s Parapsychology is the study of supernatural phenomena or more specifically, psychic phenomena. After the Enlightenment, which occurred in the 18th century, the existence of deities and magic was more widely contested and doubted, leading to the discrediting of these phenomena as science. One of the first scientists to attempt a scientific study of psychic phenomena was Franz Anton Mesmer in the 1700 s; he experimented with and attempted to patent the mesmerism technique, more commonly known as hypnotism. Even though his method did not achieve scientific recognition, shifting religious beliefs allowed for the widespread Spiritualism movement, which allowed for the use of mediums and the like (Psychicscience.org). Modern parapsychology came about in the 1920 s with the invention of statistical tools and the efforts of a researcher by the name of J.B. Rhine. Rhine had three aims through his experiments: to provide data on parapsychological phenomena rather than to attempt to prove their existence, to achieve scientific recognition and to prove that psychic ability was not limited to certain people and was a part of human psyche all along just waiting to be discovered. Though he was not necessarily successful in his goals, Rhine did change his field in that now psychic study is not limited to individuals with psychic talent, rather a ... The reason being that wearing armor would make killing the Spaniards that much harder and being mounted on a horse only made them more intimidating in the eyes of the Aztecs as well as giving them the fighting advantage. The second reason that the Aztecs fell to the Spaniards is just as important as the first and it s the Indian tribes that assisted the Spaniards in finding and defeating the Aztecs. Although there were a few Indian tribes that became allies and assisted the Spaniards it was the Cempoala Indian tribe that helped them set up a base on a shore of a village that Cortes named Vera Cruz when he claimed it in the name of Spain. The captives become more comfortable in their environment, they begin eating their food and enjoying their culture. The captives forget their situations when their captors show even a little compassion, they begin to praise them when in reality the captors have only given them skewed freedoms. Yet, the captives begin to want to be a part of their community and begin to hate themselves for those thoughts. The narrator of Captivity strikes the earth uselessly in her dream where she yearns to be a part of a Native American ritual, because she knows she never can truly take part. Though the captee s vision can be blurred by their closeness to the situation, the readers can see that the captors treat the captured with no human understanding by taking away their families. Ultimately, captors are portrayed negatively, even if their captives begin to want to be like them by eating their foods and yearning to be a part of their traditions. In Mary Rowlandson s. A Narrative of the Captivity, Rowlandson becomes more comfortable with her captors and their culture, by feeling comfortable with the people, though she is still in captivity and has limited freedoms. Porter states that there are 2 types of competitive advantage a firm can possess as mentioned above however , there are 3 generic strategies for achieving competitive advantage in an industry; cost advantage/leadership, differentiation and focus. The first type of competitive advantage is cost advantage /leadership, it is when a firm becomes low cost producer in its industry. It minimizes the cost to the organization of delivering products and services. According to Porter (1985) , there are two ways of achieving cost leadership either by increasing profit by reducing costs while charging the average price. Or by increasing market share through charging lower prices while still achieving a reasonable profit on each sale because your cost has been reduced. Furthermore, companies that are successful in achieving cost leadership usually have an access to the capital needed to invest in technology which helps reduce the cost. Also, they have very efficient logistics and a low cost base such as labor, materials and facilities (Ibid, 1985). Essentially, if a firm can achieve and maintain cost leadership, it can obtain above average performance whilst the prices are still affordable in that industry. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we getting what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the authority to choose the service we are getting back. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) is an Act of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police officers in England and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the exercise of those powers. PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the police and the rights and freedoms of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of PACE. These powers have been given to the police to insure our safety however how much power the police really hold is limited by the PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching the rights of individuals. the question of whether or not these rights should be abolished is a debatable one. The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the rights of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not protected by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police stop and search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially breaching international law. • 31. The Secession Crisis Of 1860-1861 Between 1846 and 1861, many events had impacts on the United States that lead up to the secession crisis of 1860 1861. Slavery had great impacts on the country, such as the economic effect of the South overestimating its importance due to the prevalence of slave grown cotton. Westward expansion had the social effect of the citizens of territories wanting statehood to get into arguments and civil wars due to popular sovereignty. States rights had the political effect of the southern states believing that since they agreed to become part of the United States, they could just as easily leave the country. According to Dr. Higazee, These roles lead to various types of interactions among nurses and other healthcare team members, which significantly increase the probability for conflict to arise in hospital settings among nurses (Higazee, 2015). Therefore, conflicts are not something that can be eliminated from the lives of nurses; however, nurses can be given the skills and techniques to manage the conflicts that do arise. Although the word conflict has a negative connotation attached to it, there is a positive perspective that can be viewed as Finkelman (2016) says, It can be used to improve if changes are made to address problems related to the conflict (p. 324). The Problem I used to work in a small community hospital that had 100 beds in total, 50 for admitted patients and 50 for the emergency department. One of the significant issues ... The attacks on September 11, 2001 only further put Muslims in a negative standing with other Americans. With a renewed sense of nationalism many Americans joined the armed forces to take down the terrorist threat. Americans gained strong feelings of resentment towards Muslims due to the terrorist threat. Because of this misunderstanding many Muslims are shunned by American society as a result. • 36. Short Essay On Bedbugs Bedbugs may be little creatures but they are great hitchhikers, very much capable of moving from one infected site to another. They secretly hide on bedding, clothing, boxes, luggage, and furniture. But if you really want to sleep like a baby at night and not undergo another bed bug war, here are some tips to keep the little bloodsuckers out of your bed and hopefully out of your house too. 1. Make Sure that Your Bed Frame Has Feet One of the most important things that you need to do is to ensure that your bed has feet. If it currently doesn t have feet, you can always go to a nearby home store and purchase an affordable and simple bed frame. Believe it or not, your bed frame will serve an important part in bedbug proofing your bed. 2. Put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the purpose why having a bed frame is suggested. The bed bugs may attempt to get inside the bed bug coasters but will end up being trapped inside. Once the bedbugs are inside, they can no longer climb up the bed frame. Choose the bed bug coasters that contain compartments because you can track where bed bugs are coming from or how they go up from the ground and hide under the sheets. 3. If Possible, Move Your Bed Away from Walls or Furniture This tip is not always possible for every homeowner as some are living in a small space. So, depending on the size of your room, you can opt to position your bed away from the wall or the furniture. If you can also put it away from anything that touches the bed, it would be much better. The reason is simple: these walls or furniture linked to the bed is giving bed bugs a way to cross and reach your bed while you are sleeping, which of course spells nightmares. You can keep the bed at least one foot away. Also, bed bugs are not really capable of jumping from the wall to your bed. So, even if the gap is just one inch, it would also be okay as long as your bed covers do not also touch the furniture or wall around the bed. 4. Don t Let the Bed Cover Touch the Floor or ...
