Essay on RalphВґs Metamorphosis in the Lord of the Flies
The novel, Lord of the Flies, is a compelling story displaying the metamorphosis of an individual
when faced with external and internal conflicts. Ralph is the first character to be introduced in the
book. He is the most likeable as he is charming, athletic, and displays strong leadership qualities.
However, as the novelprogresses, Ralph loses his sense of civilization and undergoes a change in
characterdiscovering the evil man is capable of. Ralph s metamorphosis is captivating and displays
the inevitable loss of innocence.
To start off, Golding displays Ralph s character development with a deeper meaning connecting
Ralph with Adam in Garden of Eden. In the beginning of the book, Ralph takes his clothes off and
goes swimming. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Ralph argues, You haven t got the conch, Sit down (102). Following his displeasure at
Jack s point he tells the boys, Hasn t anyone got any sense?... don t any of you want to be rescued
(102)? The reader sees the start of abandoning civilization among the boys, although Ralph still
believes in the conch. Therefore Ralph believing in the conch shows that he is still civilized. It is
not until the very end of the novel where Ralph goes down hill with the rest of the boys when the
conch is broken. Mass chaos erupts on the island as Jack and his crew chase Ralph with the island
burning in flames. When the boys are rescued Ralph acknowledges the fall through of civilization.
The officer mentions that they should have put up a better fight. In response, Ralph argues, It was
like that at first... before things (202). The conch breaking represented the end of civilization on the
island.
In addition, to the conch revealing Ralph s abandonment to civilization, Ralph s transformation
in hair coincides with the growth of savagery within him. In the beginning of the novel, Ralph is
a well kept boy. He is described as, The boy with fair hair (7). However, as the novel progresses
and Ralph starts to face internal and external conflicts on the island the reader sees the meaning
behind his hair. When the rules on the island are put aside, the other boys start to hunt and use their
power for killing. In the midst of the

1. What led to the success of Maine and Kentucky s Temporary Assistance to Needy families Post
Secondary Reform movements?
Maine is a small state that is not terribly diverse in it s population. Ethnic and racial minorities
make up just less that 2 percent of its population (U.S. Census Bureau). Maine has also been
considered one of the more poorer states. Maine s economy relies heavily on tourist seasons and
with a slow economy, unemployment, under employment and low paying jobs occur. (Price, 2005).
When is came to challenge the Temporary Assistance to Needy families reform movement, Maine
was the first state to successfully do so. Maine is state that is committed to education. Under the
Reagan administration there was a federal Work Incentive Demonstration project ,which allowed
women on welfare the chance to go to college, the state s advocates convinced the Department of
Human Services to take advantage of this program. Fortunately for Maine, the state tends to
promote accessibility to all citizens, which is not common amongst state welfare bureaucracies. The
advocates recognized that education was a way to get rid of poverty, not to mention empower
women and potentially stimulate their economy. Eventually, this demonstration came to be known
as ASPIRE. (Price, 2005).
Interestingly, the road to reform in Maine started when a woman overheard a

Deviation Of Height
I am confident that my results are correct because when I was doing my research to find the
mean of heights of males in the United States, I found similar sites that gave the same mean
average. The results of the average mean of males in the US is relatively close to the result I
found during my research, which made me feel pretty confident that I was headed in the right
direction. To find the standard deviation of heights of males in the US is impossible because you
would have to measure everyone s height, which no one has done before. When I found my
confidence interval the values was consistent with the data I collected. Most of the data that I
found were between the numbers 68 and 70 with very few of them falling above and below the

The reader most remember that I am using the male s height in the US, not around the world and
not using the female s height either. The one mean hypotheses shows that the relationship between
the two quantitative variables I chose and after finding the p value it showed that they are not
compatible. Since my p value was less than alpha I had to reject my null hypothesis. So after
conducting my experiment I realize now that your age does not affect your height. When
conducting this experiment, the two types of errors type 1 and type 2 could have occurred
throughout the whole thing. For example, type 1 error could have occurred if my p value was
greater than alpha, and I falsely rejected my null hypotheses because I thought it was less than
alpha, but if I don t reject the null hypotheses when it is lower than alpha I would have made a
type 2 error. If both of these errors occurred during the experiment than the whole entire project
would be wrong and the reader would have a hard time understanding what is going on throughout

General Motors North America market share in 2005 fell to 25.5% compared to 26.7 in 2004.
Decreased in market share also due to sales declines in segment where GM has high volume
such as large sport utilities, mid sized utilities, and mid sized cars. The unfavorable results of
GM s consolidate net loss in 2005 were driven primarily by losses at GMNA due largely to
unfavorable volume and product mix. Health Care Health Care in the United States becomes
one of the biggest competitive challenges for General Motor Corporation. In 2005, GM was
challenged with the compound impact of escalating health care cost rates and falling discount
rates used to determine future health care liabilities. As a result of these factors, most of the
expenses increased to one billion from 2004. Since the legacy cost are primarily related to the
cost of benefits provided to retired employees and their dependents, this becomes one of the
cause a sharp decline in sales. According to the article, GM s health care spending alone is
expected to rise to $ 5.6 billion in 2005, up from $ 5.2 billion last year. Over 1.1 million
Americans including current workers, retires and their families are presently covered by GM
health care obligations which making the company the largest private health care provider in the

Video Games do more than entertain
Fully 72% of all teens play video games on a computer, game console or portable device like a
cellphone, and 81% of teens have or have access to a game console. (Lenhart 1) When most
people read this, they might assume it is a bad statistic and something that needs to be lowered,
however it actually has many positive attributes that usually go unreported. The positive effects
of video games outweigh the negatives in the bigger picture. Video games help to develop the
social skills that people think teens lose nowadays. Teenagers who do play video games do better
in school than those who do not. They are the most beneficial form of entertainment there is. Not
all digital media should be seen as a group of items that go hand in hand. Digital media consists of
useful tools that can be, with proper facilitation, used to young society s advantage. Every form of
entertainment provides us with something, whether it be just a time killer or a couple of laughs,
video games however, provide us with the potential to experience more than just sitting and
watching something. Video games can be the most beneficial form of entertainment there is. When
compared to something like watching a TV show, completing a video games takes up less time as
well as provides more mental stimulation. A person does not watch a game, they play it, they have

Learning Through Play Analysis
Before exploring the benefits of learning through play, it is important to grasp an understanding of
Huizing (1950) states that if an activity is fully absorbing, includes an element of uncertainty and
involves a sense of illusion then it is play. Groos (in Hyder, 2005) argued that play is a means
through which children make sense of adult roles within society. According to Piaget (1969) playis a
way for children to unify experiences, knowledge and understanding. Vygotsky (1966) considered
play to be important for an individual s cognitive development.
Bruner et al (1976) found that play reduces stress. They viewed play as a form of problem solving
which required self initiation, therefore increasing a child s problem solving ability. Additionally...

All see it as an integral factor in supporting and promoting children s social and emotional
development. Much recent research on play cite the work of Piaget, Vygotsky and Bruner. Both
Piaget and Vygotsky believed through play children can discover the world, formulate opinions
and impart some meaning to their ever changing view of the world. Piaget argues play parallels
development, while Vygotsky puts forward that play promotes development. Piaget (in O Hara
and Smith, 2004) believed that children were actively in control of their own learning, with their
major task being that to develop an ability to organise their experiences and learn from them, thus
enabling children to make sense of the world. Piaget s play theory reflects his focus on the
intellectual development in children, concentrating on the child s construction of reality rather than
on the social context of learning. Piaget perceived play as a method which children use to develop
their cognitive abilities and to practise their emerging cultivated capabilities. He also saw play as a
child s adaptation to the world around them through application of assimilation. Piaget claimed
there are three stages in the development of play;

but for those that wish to seek employment after their time in service. Now employers look more
favorable toward both the experience that men and women get from the service and to include the
education they receive during or after their enlistment. Mostly due to the fact that they are driven to
always do better for themselves and their career. They also have the discipline and respect to adapt

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the
meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely
exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World
War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In
the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the
meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box.
Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be
or not to be speech. Both of these works of literature seem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death.
Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To
die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To
him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as
nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But
that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus
conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares
Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is
nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how
a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to
believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism.
Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge
impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet
does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play
allows the readers to see his

Developing A New Product Development
The Key to Success or Failure in Developing a New Product
Introduction
In the sustainable growth strategies of businesses, new product development plays an important
role increasingly. Many successful firms stay ahead of the competitors by creating innovations in
order to avoid a reduction in their sales and profits. Despite these extremely exertions of companies,
many new products cannot become successful in the marketplace and businesses become suffering
from their failures. The common mistakes are eventually repeated by several careless companies.
Thus, this article will expose some of the main reasons for these failures and suggest some
productive approaches to succeed in a new product. The overall structure of the paper takes the
form of four parts, including this introductory section. The second part begins by presenting the
causes why many new products fail, focusing on the three key themes as follows: market
orientation, planning and timing. Subsequently, it proposes the methods and critical factors to
pursue the goal of winning in new product development. The paper ends with a conclusion in the
last section. Common Reasons for New Product Failure
To begin with, there are some of the mistakes leading to new product failure which should be learnt
from and avoided in the future. Cooper (2001) claims that one of these deficiencies is a market
orientation of the new product. Inadequate concentration on the marketplace, misunderstanding of

Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between
Ignatius Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of
Dunces. The correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the
beginning, Ignatius feels a specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has
put some distance between reality, and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius
wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on
how to better his life. In three separate endeavors to calm her unwavering feedback and
recommendations, he considers her advice, each time completely failing and causing more
trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a comedic irony, she spares him
from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic medievalist who rejects the
cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again, pursues each hipster
person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she really needs to
engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being fixated on sex
is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets a
progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).

How Did Zephaniah Influence King Josiah
Zephaniah may describe itself in the time of King Josiah, but it was influenced by the kings
before him as well. The two previous kings before Josiah were Manasseh and his son Amon.
Both of these kings were wicked in the eyes of Yahweh and worshiped other gods. In the book of
II Kings, we are introduced to Manasseh and his reign, He rebuilt the high places his father
Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king
of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them (II Kings 21:3). We
see in the first chapter of Zephaniah that this behavior is directly mentioned, I will stretch out
my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will destroy every remnant of
Baal worship in this place, the very names of the idolatrous priests those who bow down on the
roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the Lord and who also swear
by Molek (Zephaniah 1:4 5) We can see that the action of the previous kings effect the book
Zephaniah because their actions are being directly referred to. This behavior changed with the reign
of King Josiah.

The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
A relationship provides refuge, love and trust between two partners but every relationship has flaws
that can permanently taint the two individuals and their bond. A major conflict that occurs in many
relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is
usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as
physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). However, there are many cases
in which women should stay in an abusive relationship rather than evade it because of contributing
factors that revolve around societal views. In the novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns written by

do, but that attempt is exactly why leaving an abusive relationship is dangerous because the
chances of survival for the victim is very slim. To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents
were reported to the police about spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were
females and more than half of these women were killed after they had separated from their abusive
partners. The pattern is that the most dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes
the decision to leave her abusive spouse (The Facts About ViolenceAgainst Women). Fran is
almost murdered by her abusive husband when he confronts her after she escapes which
demonstrates that women should not escape from the abusive relationship because their lives are
threatened by their abusers especially after they leave. In both of the novels, the deadly
experiences that the battered women face are when they are in the process of leaving or after they
leave. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, instead of the women being murdered, Rasheed is murdered

The Perspective On Income And Privilege Essay
I agree with the interactionist perspective. Certain races or ethnicities are advantageous when
obtaining power and privilege. For example, White households have a higher income than non
White Hispanics or Blacks. The data provided on page 82 illustrates the income gap, Black
household had the lowest median income in 2013 ($34,598), non Hispanic White households
($58,270). Median income for Hispanic households was $40,963 (Leon Guerrero 2016). This
data obtained from the U.S. Census reveals there are differences in income and wealth
depending on race. Employment is also important when discussing wealth. According to the
textbook, Blacks and Hispanics have not been able to achieve the same earnings of level of
wealth as White Americans have (Leon Guerrero 2016). One of the consequences of wealth
disparity is lower access of home ownership. As a result of race or ethnicity people have limited
housing options. Leon Guerrero says, Minority groups have been denied similar access because
of structural barriers such as discrimination, low income, and lack of credit access (2016). This
results in a large home ownership gap which allows Whites to own their home as opposed to the
minorities who are denied credit and cannot purchase a home of their choice. Lower aces to
health care and the quality of care once in the system for minority groups are examples of
privilege and power. Depending on race, minorities have less medical care coverage as opposed to
non Hispanic

The Dysfunctional, Deranged Society In 1984 By George Orwell
The dysfunctional, deranged society of George Orwell s classic novel, 1984, is more relevant today
to United States citizens than ever. In the book and in our country currently, the ruling governments
both attempt to dominate their people through consistent force. The United States is constantly
policing its citizens to maintain order, which is similar to the Party s actions in 1984. As our
present day society continues to progress, certain aspects of citizens lives mirror those found in
1984, such as the overbearing control of the government, the limited language amongst the people,
and the new security methods. The Oceania community, as portrayed in 1984, affects United
States citizens of today because both in the book and in reality, the governments believe they are
allowed to control the actions of their people. Always the eyes watching you and the voice
enveloping you.....Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters inside your skull
(Orwell 27). 1984 portrays a society where it is never acceptable to stray from the routine of
government rules, so the only freedom you have is your own capacity to think. In our society
today, citizens are supposed to have freedom of thought, but, similar to Orwell s novel, the people
are illegitimately restricted by the governing authority. For instance, our current president, President
Trump, disagreed with football players actions to kneel during the National Anthem because he
believed it corrupted the civil peace. He

between the latent and visible evidence are as follows According to Saferstein, R. (2011),
Latent evidence is evidence at a crime scene that cannot be seen with the eyes. Examples might
be a blood stain that was bleached out, or semen stains that can t be seen without special
lighting, or a fingerprint on an on even surface, such as a tree (pp. 400). Saferstein, R. (2011),
also argues that visible evidence are made when an object touches a surface after the ridges have
been in contact with a colored material such as blood, paint grease, or ink, (pp. 400, para. 1). I do
not believe that there was a secure chain of custody due to the fact the crime scene had already
been contaminated. However, once the evidence was collected the

Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show
The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman
Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the
public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life,
following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven
and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single
interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and
views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of
blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film
story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches
viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else.
Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very
real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is
hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality
and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant
state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show
in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and
that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it
leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since
Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal
town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has
occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth
of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once
Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This
proves that although

Carburettors Advantages And Disadvantages
In order for an internal combustion engine to operate correctly, a mixture of fuel and air needs to
enter into the combustion chamber, pressurised and then ignited by a spark ignition which then
drives the piston to rotate. The way that the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber has
evolved over the decades. Before electronic fuel injection, carburettors were the primary method of
mixing air and fuel. Carburettors work on the Bernoulli s principle: the faster the air moves, the
lower its static pressure and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle actuates carburettor
mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pulled into the engine, the speed of this flow and
therefore its pressure determines the amount of fuel drawn into the airstream.
Carburettors consist of an intake of air being pushed into the intake manifold to the engine. The
build up of fast dynamic pressure will initiate fuel delivery action by providing a vacuum for fuel
to enter the intake with the manifold propagating as a mixture chamber to atomise the fuel into the
air to create an ideal mixture. Carburettors use Bernoulli s principle, where the speed of air intake
entering the engine intake manifold in relation to the potential difference of pressure will meter the
correct amount of fuel to be sucked in. The disadvantage of a carburettor is that the amount of fuel
being delivered cannot be fully controlled and carburettors tend to have higher fuel to air ratios and
sometimes flood the engine

The Hierarchal Culture Of The Mississippian River Valley...
The Mississippian culture of the Mississippian River Valley is a collection of numerous Native
American tribes that maintained their individual identities while being incorporated into
changing centralized polities from the beginnings of Cahokia in 800 AD to the decline of
Moundville in 1400 AD (Blitz 2008: 38). The social complexities and economic systems of the
Mississippian peoples have been highly contested (Wilson et al. 2006; Marcoux 2007; Byers
2013; Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). Some scholars have argued that the social
structure was inherently hierarchal, while others have argued that the polities of Cahokia and
Moundville were defined by their heterarchical structure (Beck 2003; Byers 2013). In addition,
the tendency for archaeologists to define Mississippian polities as chiefdoms has been in flux in
recent years due to the rigid nature of the term in past scholarship (Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and
Scarry 2016). The Mississippian peoples are known for using a corporate kinship based system of
group construction (Wilson 2016: 52). A corporate model assumes the distribution of power across
all the social groups of a society (Trubitt 2000: 670). Often these relationships are reinvigorated
through the use of ritual events and monument construction (Trubitt 2000; Wilson 2010; DeMarrais
et al. 1985). In Cahokia, kin groups would come together to participate in feasting events that would
reinstate the bond between the different groups (Blanton et al. 1996:

Essay on Watershed Management Plan for Portland, Oregon
Watershed Management Plan: Portland, Oregon Portland, Oregon is one of the most sustainable
cities in the U.S and is well known for its urban appeal. Various bureaus within the city have
consistently found ways to incorporate sustainability at a time when managing economic pressures
and increased demands for natural resources have otherwise been challenging. It comes as no
surprise then, that efforts in restoring watershed health play a large role in the city s overall
agenda. Every watershed within Portland s jurisdiction serves an important purpose; and, while
individual management plans do exist, a comprehensive plan has been created to give perspective
of watershed health on a city wide scale. Not only does this allow the city to... Show more content

Levees were built, wetlands were drained and filled, and waterways were channelized (City of
Portland Environmental Services, 2005). As a result, the overall health of the watershed
diminished. There is an urgent need to improve water quality of the Columbia Slough Watershed.
Urban development has resulted in an extensive loss of vegetation and habitat which has
resulted in increased water temperature and decreased capacity to filter pollutants and sediments
from runoff (City of Portland Environmental Services, 2005). The watershed also serves as an
important wildlife corridor, especially for migrating salmon. However, upstream passage of
salmon is prevented due to levees. Johnson Creek Much like the Columbia Slough, the Johnson
Creek Watershed has also been severely altered and urban development has contributed to its poor
health. In the 1930s, a trapezoidal channel in 15 of the 25 stream miles was created to control
flooding (City of Portland Environmental Services, 2005). However, this action did the complete
opposite. Disconnected from its floodplain, stormwater runoff has overwhelmed the confined
stream channel and has flooded 37 times since 1942 (City of Portland Environmental Services,
2005). Algae growth due to altered flow and growth of invasive species has severely degraded the
Johnson Creek Watershed. Creek sediments are contaminated with pesticides and stream banks

Slavery In The Founding Brothers
Slavery, an underlying theme throughout the first chapter of Founding Brothers, takes center stage
in the second chapter. Ellis blames Congress for not appropriately addressing the issue. Congress
failed the nation by refusing to either seek a compromise or acknowledge the compromise s
impossibility.
Shortly after the dinner party, some Quakers presented petitions that called for an end to the African
slave trade. Southern representatives insisted that the Constitution prohibited Congress from
passing laws that abolished or restricted the slave trade until 1808. Benjamin Franklin signed the
Pennsylvania Abolition Society which claimed that the Constitution allowed Congress to take
whatever action to eliminate human trafficking. The House of Representatives, formed committees
to debate what they should do next. This caused a breakdown of decency in the House.
Compromise, another reoccurring theme, was absent during the slavery debate. It was the first ...

Thomas Scott argued that slavery was not protected by the Constitution and suggested that
Congress should use the Declaration as a guide since it declared that all men were created equal.
On the other hand, James Jackson supported slavery through both Biblical verses and the fact that it
was the power source of the Southern economy.
The question of slavery divided the United States so significantly that it grew more unsolvable
every time the decision was postponed. Abolishment of slavery in the South would mean a
complete economic and cultural upheaval. Some of the northern states had already made slavery
illegal, while other states in the region permitted its practice. The idea of freedom for all men was
always appealing to Jefferson, so he believed that all slaves born after 1800 should be freed. He

Resolving Work Conflict Dementia
Resolving Work Conflict
Dementia often forces family members to admit their loved ones into long term care facilities.
Unfortunately, a variety of issues commonly arises after admission. For instance, family members,
especially those who have previously taken care of the resident, are sometimes reluctant to allow
changes in the residents routine, medication regimen, diet, etc. This can create conflict because
sometimes changes are necessary in order to create a plan of care capable of enhancing the
resident s quality of life.
Furthermore, health outcomes are individualized. Therefore, what constitutes an optimal plan of

there are two scenarios where graffiti played a crucial part. Once was when Bay and Emmett got

Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to
have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not
uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is
an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps
unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is
thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get
to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is
talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something
transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very
socially engaged via social media. They develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact
and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a teenager off from their device is to socially exile
them from the world. In other words, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the
day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to
unwind, think about your day, come up with possible resolutions.to

First off, the size of the farm will strongly determine the longevity of the farm s success. There
are several different categories of farms and they all have specific criteria to be part of that
category. The broadest of the categories is the small family farm (sales of less than $250,000).
Then under this category is several sub categories which comprise of: limited resource farms
(gross sales of less than $100,000, total farm assets less than $250,000, and total operator house
hold income less than $20,000), retirement farms (small farms with the operator being retired),
residential/lifestyle farms (small farms with the operator having a major occupation other than
farming), farming occupation/lower sales (sales less than $100,000), farming occupation
/higher sales (sales between $100,000 and $249,999). The other types of farms include large
family farms and very large family farms. The final category is non family farm; these types of
farms are more like corporations and cooperatives. The reason why the size of a farm is so
important to the success is that it all depends on the amount of income that is flowing into the
farm. The limited resource, retirement, and lifestyle family farms will have a better chance of
prolonging its existence because of its off farm income. These types of farms do not need to
worry as much about low prices and low yields because of the other source of cash flow. This
brings us to the farming occupation with

Human behavior is not always easily understood. In Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener this

Regardless of the stance on the danger of Bartlebys behaviorhis actions prove him to be an

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy ( Rebt )
Abstract
A literature review on rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). A discussion of the REBT
founder Albert Ellis and the concepts that influenced the formation of REBT. Also, an in depth
description of the concepts and theories behind REBT as well as examples of the types of
therapies that are commonly used in REBT. Next, an explanation of some of the changes that have
occurred during the history of REBT and a call for some future developments. Finally, some
criticisms of REBT are debated.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: Past, Present, and Future Rational emotive behavior therapy
(REBT) was first developed by Albert Ellis in 1955 (Dryden, David, Ellis, 2009). Albert Ellis was
influenced by the teachings of many different stoic philosophers, including Epictetus, which taught
that humans are not disturbed by the actual things that happen to them but by their perception of
those things (Dryden et al., 2009). Hence, Ellis termed this therapy rational psychotherapy in order
to emphasize the cognitive aspect of his therapy and to differentiate it from other psychoanalytic
therapies (Dryden et al., 2009). However, he had to change the name of his therapy to rational
emotive therapy in 1961 due to critics accusations of the therapy ignoring clients emotions, and
then again in 1993 to rational emotive behavior therapy in order to emphasize the behavior aspect
of therapy (Dryden et al., 2009). Another influence to Ellis was Alfred Alder; Alder s belief that an

The main topic of study is to determine whether there is a correlation between mental health
problems and violence among criminal offenders. The purpose of the study conducted by (Felson,
Silver and Vaneseltine) was to examine whether criminal offenders with mental health problems
were more likely to commit violent crimes in comparison to offenders without mental health
problems. (p 405). There are elements which will be critiqued and analysed further.
There is a focus of a particular type of study which is the relationship between mental health
problems and violence against criminal offenders. The problem is researchable and can be
investigated through the collection and analysis of data this is evident in the article which ... Show

The text is organised very clearly with sub headings for different elements which were researched
by the authors.
One of the key issues is the generalisation of the data produced. Although there were approximately
17,000 participants, all of the participants were criminal offenders, who had not been committed to
a psychiatric institution; therefore it is difficult to determine whether there is any connection with
individuals with mental health problems and the violence committed by them. There are
researchers who will agree with the hypothesis put forward in this journal article however there are
researchers who claim that there is not strong enough evidence to suggest whether or not the
hypothesis can be held true. Moreover, the important elements have been excluded from this study
such as, alcohol and drug use.
In addition, the method used had variables which could not be controlled. In the instance of the
participants, it is quite common for the participants of the study to lie about whether or not they
suffer from mental health problems. This may be due to the participants being aware of how they
may be perceived by society and the general public. The data provided by the participants can be
affected by social desirability,

Animal Persuasive Speech
Hiding behind a big boulder in the hot and sunny Africa is a man holding a shotgun, he spots the
large male lion that he has been tracking for two whole weeks, he aims and you hear the gun
sounding and the male lion falls to the ground. All the man wanted was to say that that was the
was the lion he killed. As of being a kid, I have more of an imagination which makes me think
more and want to come up with ways to help solve problems and figure out how they affect us. As
well, I like animals a lot, so if the animalsthat are endangered are or have been being killed I am
or would like to have a say or help stop it. When I was researching my topic, I had been finding
the perfect articles and videos to get important and correct information. How many animals die
each year. Do they have any laws or anyone to stop the animal poaching? This was my driving
question: How can I convince people to help stop others from killing the animals for no reason?
Once I finished my research, I understood that in some way it is possible to help stop animal
poaching. One of the biggest problems going on right now is that illegal hunters are killing
endangered animals just because of their skin or just as a trophy hunt. It may not seem like it more
and more animals are becoming close to being endangered to almost extinct. This is happening all
because of one thing that makes a chain of events, that is just killing the animals. The problems that
it causes is lack of food, extinction, and lack in reproducing. The reasons that those are problems
is because the lack of food means that the animals in the food chain that die that are supposed to
be food for other animals are dying and can t feed the other animals, and they die from starvation
and it will eventually destroy the whole food chain. With the food part being said the animals
have less and less reproduced because males are dying and it is not possible, with this cause is
less and fewer offsprings each year. As well, both these problems lead to one exact thing,
extinction. I think that the world should try and help stop this because it is a serious problem and
it is illegal. As well, with no animals, the world is not complete and all the things that the animals do

Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper

EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type
1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering
condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the
pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was
already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive
and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects
of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by
the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes
Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are:

The Destructive Nature of the American Dream in F. Scott...
The concept of the American dream has been related to everything from religious freedom to a nice
home in the suburbs. It has inspired both deep satisfaction and disillusioned fury. The phrase elicits
for most Americans a country where good things can happen. However, for many Americans, the
dream is simply unattainable. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds Winter Dreams, Dexter Green, a hardworking
young man born into the middle class, becomes wrapped up in his pursuit to obtain wealth and
status in his life. These thoughts and ideas represent Dexter s fixation on his winter dreams, or, the
idea of what the American Dream means to him: gaining enough wealth to eventually move up in
social class and become somebody, someday. As Dexter attempts... Show more content on

Because Dexter s life is unintentionally controlled by these dreams, he does not realize that he
is being driven toward material success. He is unaware that these dreams are leading him to fall
in love with the woman who stands at the core of his materialistic fantasies. His complete focus
in life becomes geared toward gaining the love of a beautiful woman who expresses the glamour
and promise of the exclusive world (Perkins). Dexter begins to strongly believe that Judy Jones is
his key to unlocking the world of the rich and wealthy. By illustrating the luxurious lifestyle of
Judy Jones, Fitzgerald reveals how she represents, to Dexter, what life is like for the rich and
prosperous. As well as representing the upper class lifestyle, Judy, through her beauty and manner,
represents Dexter s dream of obtaining a higher status that he has wished for ever since he was
young. After passionately kissing Judy and realizing that the
color and the mobility of her mouth gave a continual impression of flux, of intense life, of
passionate vitality, he discovers that he had wanted Judy Jones ever since he was a proud,
desirous little boy (Fitzgerald 1013). This life and passion that she presents shows that she offers
more than just wealth, but beauty and love as well. Malcolm Cowley, author of The Romance of

The first method matches characters of a string to the alphabet and returns a numeric value, the
second method is used to return a char which is located at the position int pos.
Class Hill has an object basic of the class basic so as to access the methods from the basic class,
this is done later on in the program.
Class Hill also contains method Hill, this ensures that the matrix we are using is a 2X2 matrix, that

The method reads the key matrix. The user will enter in the first number and press enter and do this

Symptoms A Person Who Is Infected By The Hiv Virus
The signs and symptoms a person who is infected by the HIV virus shows are directly related to
the stage of infection they are currently in. There are three stages of infection classified by the
CDC, and those are acute infection, clinical latency, and AIDS. The World Health Organization, or
WHO, however, breaks it down into 4 different stages which are primary infection, followed by a
clinically asymptomatic stage, then a symptomatic stage, and lastly progression to AIDS. The US
uses mostly the CDC system and for this reason this is how I will break the phases down in order
to describe each.
Acute infection is the initial stage at which point viral load is highest due to large amounts of viral
particles being produced. Some people but not all develop what can be described as influenza like
symptoms a couple of weeks after initial exposure. Symptoms can include fever, throat
inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, rashes, sores, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
These symptoms usually last no more than a couple weeks at most.
During clinical latency, very low levels of the virus are being produced and most people infected
are completely asymptomatic. This is the stage in which people may remain and live for many
years if on treatment. Even without treatment, this stage tends to last for a wide range of years for
most, averaging at about 8 10 years, although some speed through it faster than others. With
treatment, of course, life expectancy is markedly greater.

President Machiavelli Bush Essay
President Machiavelli Bush George W. Bush, our current President, must keep a copy of
Machiavelli s most celebrated work, The Prince (1513), on his desk in the Oval Office. In my
opinion, Bush and his administration s actions mimic Machiavelli s advice to the Prince on the
tactics that he should use to stay in power. I am going to discuss how President Bush uses
Machiavellian principles. My first example is of Bush s War on Terror . In 2001, the President
stated that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and Saddam was going to use them
against the U.S. and other nations even though he did not have concrete proof . He also said Iraq
had ties to Al Quaida and this was a threat to our security and the security... Show more content on

Yet, it is only the appearance of religion that is helpful . George Bush claims that not only is he
saved, but is called upon by God to political office. He also uses extensive references to scripture
during his public speeches and he promises to bring freedom as a gift from the Almighty to
benighted regions of the world like the Middle East. His so called strong morality and grounding
in faith was one of the major reasons for his widespread public appeal, and according to some
estimates, they are among the most important factors in the 2004 election(Urban, #130). This
good ole boy painted a virtuous image of himself that the people loved and he has quickly fallen
from grace after being in office for two terms. His positive popularity diminished, not only in the
United States, but all over the world as well. I found the following fact interesting: a poll
conducted in Britain named Bush the second biggest threat to world peace after Bin Laden,
beating North Korean president Kim Jong il (Wikipedia, #203). I guess appearance isn t
everything. The last comparison I will make is the Patriot Act and the fear that it created in the
American public. The Patriot Act was passed immediately after 9/11. It was meant to protect
American s and to obstruct acts of domestic terrorism. The act gave the government the right to
invade American s privacy by increasing the ability of law enforcement agencies have to

Vanessa George has been an employee for 3 years at Little Ted s day nursery in Plymouth.
Neighbours describe Miss George as a respectable member of the community, co workers and
parents describe her as being a fun and bubbly person who was easy to get along with. Before
starting at Little Ted s she worked as a classroom assistant in an unnamed school for 6 years.
To make a little extra on her time off she would child mind for local parents in the community. In
2008 Miss George joined a Facebook group against child abuse and was still a member of this
group while committing her crimes. Miss George has 2 teenaged daughters whose names were not

The nursery promised they had done all the legal checks required by the law this was later proven
to be true by the police but the damage Due to the incident involving Miss George was already
done and quite a few members of society lost faith in the schools and nursery s which in turn had a
huge impact on the businesses which owned them many children were removed from them for a
time until society were more confident to return their children to the nursery s.
An apology was made but this still presented the issue of the decision of why Miss George was
employed in the first place, the police reassured parents that the checks were made but Miss
George had no prior offences or records on file as this was a first time offence.
Testimony provided by the school which for security reasons remains unnamed stated that they
never even had any suspicions about Vanessa George in all the years she was working for them.
This testimony supports the possible defence that she had no prior record and that she was not
suspected until evidence was found just prior to her arrest.
My personal opinion would be that phones should be kept in the staff office for use only in
emergences and personal break times. This eliminates the temptation for any staff to get distracted
from there duties of care for the children. As for school/ class trips phones should be turned off at
all times only to be used in an emergency to contact parents and or emergency services. Each

Simon Bolivar has been considered by many historians as the liberator of the Americas, he lead an
army that liberated Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia from the Spanish rule. Bolivar
dreamed in having these countries unified as one big country called The Gran Colombia . These
countries would have shared a centralized government and would have had the city of Bogota as its

With magnanimous sincerity, San Martin offered to place himself and his soldiers under
Bolivar s command if he would send the full Colombian army to drive the Spanish out of Peru.
Unfortunately for the patriot cause, Bolivar apparently regarded San Martin as a rival and an
antagonist rather than as a comrade in arms, an obstacle to be removed before his own fame and
glory were compromised by sharing them with another. Bolivar refused the incredibly selfless
offer, saying that his delicacy would not allow him to command San Martin, and that the
Colombian Congress would not permit him to leave Colombia to pursue the war in Peru. San
Martin also indicated in an interview that he San Martin, a keen reader of men, immediately
perceived the arrogance and raw ambition that lay behind the mask of courtly civility and empty
excuses. Years later, in 1840, while living in voluntary exile in France, the general confided his
candid assessment of Bolivar s character to a visitor, Captain Lafond de Lurcy of the French navy:
At first sight his personal appearance prejudiced me against him. He appeared to have much pride,

Native Son Research Paper
Gruesome allegations swarming against black men in the mid twentieth century has created a
sense of fear concerning blacks from the white community. White people have always had an
idealistic stereotype on how they have viewed the African American race. In the case of the
Scottsboro Boys and the events in Native Son by Richard Wright, it is evident that there are many
things to be cautious of as a young black man in America. Richard Wright s novel Native Son is a
fictional text which he uses to convey character development, themes, and an explanation for why
things occurred. Wright touches greatly on the way history repeats itself and it shows the unjust
actions of the law toward people of color which relates to the Scottsboro Boys Case.... Show more

With the things going on in America during present day it is clear that every event in history
comes around full circle and repeats itself. It caught my attention as a reader of Native Son, when
Bigger kills Mary and he reacts in a way that fear only strikes him because he is a young black man
and she was white. A young black man s biggest fear has always been to be accused of a crime
against a white person because laws were made in favor of the white race. There were many times
where the author of the text Richard Wright distinguished the differences between white crime
and black crime in the judicial system. He was a murderer, a Negro murderer, a black murderer.
He had killed a white woman 3. During this time laws were made solely in favor of white
america and capitalists. Nine years before the publication of Native Son the trial of The
Scottsboro Boys took place which caused great controversy across the United States. Although the
actions of Bigger were different from The Scottsboro Boys, the cases were similar in the way that
Bigger was an automatic suspect due to his race in the eyes of the detective

Fatality In Othello
[Bradley presents an overview of Othello, in an attempt to discover what makes this the most
painfully exciting and the most terrible of Shakespeare s tragedies. He highlights aspects of the play
which reinforce its emotional impact: the rapid acceleration of the plot, the intensity of Othellos
jealousy, the passive suffering of Desdemona, and the luck and skill involved in Iagos intrigue.
According to Bradley, these features combine to produce feelings of confinement and dark fatality
that suggest that the characters cannot escape their destinies. He then discusses three scenes
Othello s striking of Desdemona in IV. i, Othello s treatment of Desdemona as a whore in IV. ii, and
her death in V. ii and maintains that the emotional intensity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I mean the suffering of Desdemona. This is, unless I mistake, the most nearly intolerable spectacle
that Shakespeare offers us. For one thing, it is mere suffering; and, ceteris paribus [other things
being equal], that is much worse to witness than suffering that issues in action. Desdemona is
helplessly passive. She can do nothing whatever. She cannot retaliate even in speech; no, not even
in silent feeling. And the chief reason of her helplessness only makes the sight of her suffering
more exquisitely painful. She is helpless because her nature is infinitely sweet and her love
absolute. I would not challenge Mr. [Algernon Charles] Swinburne s statement [in his Study of
Shakespeare] that we pity Othello even more than Desdemona; but we watch Desdemona with more
unmitigated distress. We are never wholly uninfluenced by the feeling that Othello is a man
contending with another man; but Desdemona s suffering is like that of the most loving of dumb
creatures tortured without cause by the being he

  • 3. Massachusetts And Kentucky s Temporary Assistance For... Stephanie Steele Final Exam Amna Osman State and Local Government Upper Iowa University April 23rd, 2015 1. What led to the success of Maine and Kentucky s Temporary Assistance to Needy families Post Secondary Reform movements? Maine is a small state that is not terribly diverse in it s population. Ethnic and racial minorities make up just less that 2 percent of its population (U.S. Census Bureau). Maine has also been considered one of the more poorer states. Maine s economy relies heavily on tourist seasons and with a slow economy, unemployment, under employment and low paying jobs occur. (Price, 2005). When is came to challenge the Temporary Assistance to Needy families reform movement, Maine was the first state to successfully do so. Maine is state that is committed to education. Under the Reagan administration there was a federal Work Incentive Demonstration project ,which allowed women on welfare the chance to go to college, the state s advocates convinced the Department of Human Services to take advantage of this program. Fortunately for Maine, the state tends to promote accessibility to all citizens, which is not common amongst state welfare bureaucracies. The advocates recognized that education was a way to get rid of poverty, not to mention empower women and potentially stimulate their economy. Eventually, this demonstration came to be known as ASPIRE. (Price, 2005). Interestingly, the road to reform in Maine started when a woman overheard a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Deviation Of Height I am confident that my results are correct because when I was doing my research to find the mean of heights of males in the United States, I found similar sites that gave the same mean average. The results of the average mean of males in the US is relatively close to the result I found during my research, which made me feel pretty confident that I was headed in the right direction. To find the standard deviation of heights of males in the US is impossible because you would have to measure everyone s height, which no one has done before. When I found my confidence interval the values was consistent with the data I collected. Most of the data that I found were between the numbers 68 and 70 with very few of them falling above and below the intervals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader most remember that I am using the male s height in the US, not around the world and not using the female s height either. The one mean hypotheses shows that the relationship between the two quantitative variables I chose and after finding the p value it showed that they are not compatible. Since my p value was less than alpha I had to reject my null hypothesis. So after conducting my experiment I realize now that your age does not affect your height. When conducting this experiment, the two types of errors type 1 and type 2 could have occurred throughout the whole thing. For example, type 1 error could have occurred if my p value was greater than alpha, and I falsely rejected my null hypotheses because I thought it was less than alpha, but if I don t reject the null hypotheses when it is lower than alpha I would have made a type 2 error. If both of these errors occurred during the experiment than the whole entire project would be wrong and the reader would have a hard time understanding what is going on throughout the ... Video Games Do More Than Entertain Moises Flores English 1A Professor Daniel Rice September 14, 2016 Video Games do more than entertain Fully 72% of all teens play video games on a computer, game console or portable device like a cellphone, and 81% of teens have or have access to a game console. (Lenhart 1) When most people read this, they might assume it is a bad statistic and something that needs to be lowered, however it actually has many positive attributes that usually go unreported. The positive effects of video games outweigh the negatives in the bigger picture. Video games help to develop the social skills that people think teens lose nowadays. Teenagers who do play video games do better in school than those who do not. They are the most beneficial form of entertainment there is. Not all digital media should be seen as a group of items that go hand in hand. Digital media consists of useful tools that can be, with proper facilitation, used to young society s advantage. Every form of entertainment provides us with something, whether it be just a time killer or a couple of laughs, video games however, provide us with the potential to experience more than just sitting and watching something. Video games can be the most beneficial form of entertainment there is. • 11. Learning Through Play Analysis Before exploring the benefits of learning through play, it is important to grasp an understanding of Huizing (1950) states that if an activity is fully absorbing, includes an element of uncertainty and involves a sense of illusion then it is play. Groos (in Hyder, 2005) argued that play is a means through which children make sense of adult roles within society. According to Piaget (1969) playis a way for children to unify experiences, knowledge and understanding. Vygotsky (1966) considered play to be important for an individual s cognitive development. Bruner et al (1976) found that play reduces stress. They viewed play as a form of problem solving which required self initiation, therefore increasing a child s problem solving ability. Much recent research on play cite the work of Piaget, Vygotsky and Bruner. Both Piaget and Vygotsky believed through play children can discover the world, formulate opinions and impart some meaning to their ever changing view of the world. Piaget argues play parallels development, while Vygotsky puts forward that play promotes development. Piaget (in O Hara and Smith, 2004) believed that children were actively in control of their own learning, with their major task being that to develop an ability to organise their experiences and learn from them, thus enabling children to make sense of the world. Piaget s play theory reflects his focus on the intellectual development in children, concentrating on the child s construction of reality rather than on the social context of learning. Piaget perceived play as a method which children use to develop their cognitive abilities and to practise their emerging cultivated capabilities. He also saw play as a child s adaptation to the world around them through application of assimilation. Piaget claimed there are three stages in the development of play; ... • 12. Higher Education for Military Personnel Education has always been a huge benefit for military personnel. Not only too further one s career, but for those that wish to seek employment after their time in service. Now employers look more favorable toward both the experience that men and women get from the service and to include the education they receive during or after their enlistment. Mostly due to the fact that they are driven to always do better for themselves and their career. They also have the discipline and respect to adapt to whatever the future may bring. • 13. Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Founded by SГёren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World War II, existentialismgained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box. Similarly, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be or not to be speech. Both of these works of literature seem... Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism. Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play allows the readers to see his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality, and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again, pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes). The two previous kings before Josiah were Manasseh and his son Amon. Both of these kings were wicked in the eyes of Yahweh and worshiped other gods. In the book of II Kings, we are introduced to Manasseh and his reign, He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them (II Kings 21:3). We see in the first chapter of Zephaniah that this behavior is directly mentioned, I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place, the very names of the idolatrous priests those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the Lord and who also swear by Molek (Zephaniah 1:4 5) We can see that the action of the previous kings effect the book Zephaniah because their actions are being directly referred to. A major conflict that occurs in many relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents were reported to the police about spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were females and more than half of these women were killed after they had separated from their abusive partners. The pattern is that the most dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes the decision to leave her abusive spouse (The Facts About ViolenceAgainst Women). For example, White households have a higher income than non White Hispanics or Blacks. The data provided on page 82 illustrates the income gap, Black household had the lowest median income in 2013 ($34,598), non Hispanic White households ($58,270). Median income for Hispanic households was $40,963 (Leon Guerrero 2016). This data obtained from the U.S. Census reveals there are differences in income and wealth depending on race. Employment is also important when discussing wealth. According to the textbook, Blacks and Hispanics have not been able to achieve the same earnings of level of wealth as White Americans have (Leon Guerrero 2016). One of the consequences of wealth disparity is lower access of home ownership. As a result of race or ethnicity people have limited housing options. Leon Guerrero says, Minority groups have been denied similar access because of structural barriers such as discrimination, low income, and lack of credit access (2016). This results in a large home ownership gap which allows Whites to own their home as opposed to the minorities who are denied credit and cannot purchase a home of their choice. Lower aces to health care and the quality of care once in the system for minority groups are examples of privilege and power. The Dysfunctional, Deranged Society In 1984 By George Orwell The dysfunctional, deranged society of George Orwell s classic novel, 1984, is more relevant today to United States citizens than ever. In the book and in our country currently, the ruling governments both attempt to dominate their people through consistent force. The United States is constantly policing its citizens to maintain order, which is similar to the Party s actions in 1984. As our present day society continues to progress, certain aspects of citizens lives mirror those found in 1984, such as the overbearing control of the government, the limited language amongst the people, and the new security methods. The Oceania community, as portrayed in 1984, affects United States citizens of today because both in the book and in reality, the governments believe they are allowed to control the actions of their people. Always the eyes watching you and the voice enveloping you.....Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters inside your skull (Orwell 27). 1984 portrays a society where it is never acceptable to stray from the routine of government rules, so the only freedom you have is your own capacity to think. In our society today, citizens are supposed to have freedom of thought, but, similar to Orwell s novel, the people are illegitimately restricted by the governing authority. For instance, our current president, President Trump, disagreed with football players actions to kneel during the National Anthem because he believed it corrupted the civil peace. He ... Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life, following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else. Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This proves that although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Carburettors Advantages And Disadvantages In order for an internal combustion engine to operate correctly, a mixture of fuel and air needs to enter into the combustion chamber, pressurised and then ignited by a spark ignition which then drives the piston to rotate. The way that the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber has evolved over the decades. Before electronic fuel injection, carburettors were the primary method of mixing air and fuel. Carburettors work on the Bernoulli s principle: the faster the air moves, the lower its static pressure and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle actuates carburettor mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pulled into the engine, the speed of this flow and therefore its pressure determines the amount of fuel drawn into the airstream. Carburettors consist of an intake of air being pushed into the intake manifold to the engine. The build up of fast dynamic pressure will initiate fuel delivery action by providing a vacuum for fuel to enter the intake with the manifold propagating as a mixture chamber to atomise the fuel into the air to create an ideal mixture. Carburettors use Bernoulli s principle, where the speed of air intake entering the engine intake manifold in relation to the potential difference of pressure will meter the correct amount of fuel to be sucked in. The disadvantage of a carburettor is that the amount of fuel being delivered cannot be fully controlled and carburettors tend to have higher fuel to air ratios and sometimes flood the engine ... The Mississippian culture of the Mississippian River Valley is a collection of numerous Native American tribes that maintained their individual identities while being incorporated into changing centralized polities from the beginnings of Cahokia in 800 AD to the decline of Moundville in 1400 AD (Blitz 2008: 38). The social complexities and economic systems of the Mississippian peoples have been highly contested (Wilson et al. 2006; Marcoux 2007; Byers 2013; Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). Some scholars have argued that the social structure was inherently hierarchal, while others have argued that the polities of Cahokia and Moundville were defined by their heterarchical structure (Beck 2003; Byers 2013). In addition, the tendency for archaeologists to define Mississippian polities as chiefdoms has been in flux in recent years due to the rigid nature of the term in past scholarship (Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). The Mississippian peoples are known for using a corporate kinship based system of group construction (Wilson 2016: 52). A corporate model assumes the distribution of power across all the social groups of a society (Trubitt 2000: 670). Often these relationships are reinvigorated through the use of ritual events and monument construction (Trubitt 2000; Wilson 2010; DeMarrais et al. 1985). In Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener this notion is demonstrated through the characterisation of Bartleby. From the first instance of defiance the lawyer s intuition told him that Bartleby meant no harm and his compassion drove him to study Bartleby in hopes of helping the man who was so clearly not well. In any other case of similar behavior the lawyer would not have tolerated the resistance but he knew there was something different about Bartleby. A discussion of the REBT founder Albert Ellis and the concepts that influenced the formation of REBT. Next, an explanation of some of the changes that have occurred during the history of REBT and a call for some future developments. Finally, some criticisms of REBT are debated. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: Past, Present, and Future Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) was first developed by Albert Ellis in 1955 (Dryden, David, Ellis, 2009). Albert Ellis was influenced by the teachings of many different stoic philosophers, including Epictetus, which taught that humans are not disturbed by the actual things that happen to them but by their perception of those things (Dryden et al., 2009). Hence, Ellis termed this therapy rational psychotherapy in order to emphasize the cognitive aspect of his therapy and to differentiate it from other psychoanalytic therapies (Dryden et al., 2009). However, he had to change the name of his therapy to rational emotive therapy in 1961 due to critics accusations of the therapy ignoring clients emotions, and then again in 1993 to rational emotive behavior therapy in order to emphasize the behavior aspect of therapy (Dryden et al., 2009). Animal Persuasive Speech Hiding behind a big boulder in the hot and sunny Africa is a man holding a shotgun, he spots the large male lion that he has been tracking for two whole weeks, he aims and you hear the gun sounding and the male lion falls to the ground. All the man wanted was to say that that was the was the lion he killed. As of being a kid, I have more of an imagination which makes me think more and want to come up with ways to help solve problems and figure out how they affect us. As well, I like animals a lot, so if the animalsthat are endangered are or have been being killed I am or would like to have a say or help stop it. When I was researching my topic, I had been finding the perfect articles and videos to get important and correct information. How many animals die each year. Do they have any laws or anyone to stop the animal poaching? This was my driving question: How can I convince people to help stop others from killing the animals for no reason? Once I finished my research, I understood that in some way it is possible to help stop animal poaching. One of the biggest problems going on right now is that illegal hunters are killing endangered animals just because of their skin or just as a trophy hunt. It may not seem like it more and more animals are becoming close to being endangered to almost extinct. This is happening all because of one thing that makes a chain of events, that is just killing the animals. The problems that it causes is lack of food, extinction, and lack in reproducing. The reasons that those are problems is because the lack of food means that the animals in the food chain that die that are supposed to be food for other animals are dying and can t feed the other animals, and they die from starvation and it will eventually destroy the whole food chain. With the food part being said the animals have less and less reproduced because males are dying and it is not possible, with this cause is less and fewer offsprings each year. As well, both these problems lead to one exact thing, extinction. I think that the world should try and help stop this because it is a serious problem and it is illegal. • 42. Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus Nathalie Dao Med 2056 VN FT030 Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper Ms. Annabelle Anglo 3/16/2015 EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies. Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the following three factors. Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the glucose into the tissues and cells. Incorrect glucose production in the liver. The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are: The three P s пѓ Polyuria Urinating often and having to urinate frequently at night пѓ Polydipsia Always feeling very ... There are three stages of infection classified by the CDC, and those are acute infection, clinical latency, and AIDS. The World Health Organization, or WHO, however, breaks it down into 4 different stages which are primary infection, followed by a clinically asymptomatic stage, then a symptomatic stage, and lastly progression to AIDS. The US uses mostly the CDC system and for this reason this is how I will break the phases down in order to describe each. Acute infection is the initial stage at which point viral load is highest due to large amounts of viral particles being produced. Some people but not all develop what can be described as influenza like symptoms a couple of weeks after initial exposure. Symptoms can include fever, throat inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, rashes, sores, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms usually last no more than a couple weeks at most. During clinical latency, very low levels of the virus are being produced and most people infected are completely asymptomatic. This is the stage in which people may remain and live for many years if on treatment. Even without treatment, this stage tends to last for a wide range of years for most, averaging at about 8 10 years, although some speed through it faster than others. With treatment, of course, life expectancy is markedly greater. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
