IPhones have changed the way we work and conduct business. We are able to be connected to the

My Experience At The Multicultural Dinners
Growing up in a small mountain town there wasn t very much diversity to be spoken of. However,
thanks to my parents, I was always encouraged and raised to never judge people who may seem
different from myself because no matter the race, religion, gender or appearance, we are all the same
on the inside. My first memorable experience that opened my eyes to the diversity that this world
contains was in high school during a special event called the multi cultural dinner. The dinner
consisted of different families that brought food, danced cultural dances, brought cultural costumes,
spoke about their religion and more all based on their country and culture. I was blown away at all of
the different things that go into each culture, or religion. I quickly discovered that I loved learning
about cultures that were very different from mine. The more obscure the culture, the more I wanted to
learn. From the connections I made and the people that I met at the Multicultural dinners, I was able to
travel to Spain for a month the summer after high school. I can truly say that is an experience that I
will never forget. I not only had to improve my Spanish, because my language was no longer the
majority but the minority. I also had to learn a lot about the etiquette of the spanish culture, try
different foods and much more. This all caused me to step outside of my comfort zone but also helped
me to grow as person and to cultivate friendships and experiences that will last me a

Essay on slyvia plath
Sylvia Plath s quot;Mirror, quot; shows a truly thoughtful look into the different sights and feelings a
mirror would have if it were a live conscious being, unable to lie. By showing the thoughts and
emotions that a mirror would emit, Plath makes you look inward towards how you present yourself
not only to your mirror but also to yourself. This is an eye opening poem because of its truthful
descriptions of the relationship between the inner feelings of people and how their outward
appearances that they portray of themselves affect them in and out of the public realm. Examples of
this are put throughout the poem quot;Mirror, quot; and can be found in just about every line of the
poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next section of the poem introduces a woman into the life of the mirror. She look toward the
mirror seeking to find what she truly wants to discover (beauty), and the mirror truthfully reflects back
to her what it sees. She turns from the reflection as if to look for the quot;truth quot; in something else,
not excepting what she has just seen. Unable to find it, the mirror sees her agitation and depression
after seeing her true self within it. She is always looking into the mirror to make sure everything is
perfect and to put everything in it s place, so to speak. In this the mirror, as the years seemingly pass,
sees the young girl transform from her youth into an old woman and lose all that she has fretted over
and over about throughout her life. Each day, she is reminded by the mirror of her lost youth and
beauty that was once projected back at her so faithfully.
The mirror in the poem is a representation of the truths in life that as a person is difficult to come to
terms with in one s self. The woman s view of herself and her reluctance to accept her natural and God
given beauty, shows how we all (as a society or as an individual) find it hard to accept ourselves for
who we truly are. How we try to make ourselves into a conformed object of quot;popular beauty quot;
based upon our outward appearance, instead of going by how our personal feelings that come from
within us.

Royal Alexandra Theatre
On Friday September 22nd, I traveled downtown to King Street to attend the evening show of North
by Northwest, directed by Simon Phillips, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. As I approached the
theatre, it stood out amongst the busyness of Toronto streets due to a large, vibrant red poster that
immediately caught the eye allowing for no mistake to be made about where the show was located.
The roof above twinkled with hundreds of light bulbs, making any audience member feel the sense of
glamour as they entered the building. The box office, although dimly light, had a friendly and
respectful atmosphere with two kind ladies happy to help each person who entered their doors. The
detailed and archaic design of the box office created a feeling of ... Show more content on

A variety of classic sound effects replicated the projection on screen in order to specify even further
the actions being performed such as using the telephone, riding in an elevator, arriving at a train stop,
and driving in a car. The sound effects created a connection to a more traditional sense of theatre
amongst the new technological addition of projectors. With the busyness of the opening scene, a
spotlight was used to appear on each actor as they spoke. This made it clear to the audience where
they should be looking and it lessened the overwhelming feeling of multiple people being on stage at
once. After the opening, the actors took off their own set pieces making for a quick and smooth
transition into the next scene. The cage surrounding the stage was diversely used as walls, doors, and
even an elevator. A separate cage piece was often lowered from above to divide the stage in half from
left to right when the whole stage did not need to be used. I specifically admired that many of the set
pieces had versatile purposes, such as the couch also being used as the back seat of a taxi or the front
seat of a car as other cast members pushed it around on stage in order to create the sense of driving . In
addition, the hotel lobby walls were reversible flats that were able to be living room bookcases in a
matter of seconds. The police station benches were

King Henry Manipulation
Good morning/afternoon English teachers. All representations of people and politics are indeed acts of
manipulation as true political agendas must be hidden behind a misleading facade. Language plays a
particularly powerful role in portraying in these political representations. However ambiguous the
political motive may be, control is the ultimate goal in the world of politics. Contrary to popular
belief, not all acts of manipulation are inherently immoral or solely pragmatic. King Henry IV: Part 1
(1596 1597), the second historical play of the Henriad, by William Shakespeare, provides insight into
these ideas as his own work is as such a representation of people and politics of the Elizabethan Era,
two hundred years before his own time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The portrayal of Prince Hal is exemplary of Shakespeare s use of manipulation to position the
audience to favour a political figure. Initially he sets himself a bad impression to the audience by
being brash and irresponsible. Prince Hal s relationship to Falstaff and company was a tool for him in
order to create for himself a notorious image which he could later shed and expose his true valor. At
the end of Act 1, Scene 2, Hal, through his soliloquy, shows that he has a completely different
perspective on his own actions, conceding that they are unsuitable for a King but that he is engaging in
this behaviour for a clear political purpose. Hal uses the central metaphor of the sun in his speech: Yet
herein will I imitate the sun (1.2.157) and creating imagery of the sun appearing from the clouds,
symbolising his glorious rise from his behaviour: Being wanted, he may be more wondered at/By
breaking through the foul and ugly mists (1.2.161 62). He ends with a rhyming couplet I ll so offend,
to make offence a skill,/ Redeeming time when men think least I will (1.2.176 77). The conclusive
effect of the rhyming couplets establishes Hal s intent to exploit the tendency of humanity to
appreciate a change or reformation by behaving poorly

How does the language used by Lord Sugar and the Apprentice Contestants reflect on their role in the
boardroom?
The language used by Lord Sugar and the Apprentice contestants reflects on their role in the
boardroom in a variety of ways; Lord Sugar s language portrays him as being totally in charge and the
vocabulary used by the candidates shows their anxiety. The body language they display also helps to
reinforce their roles.
Lord Sugar is obviously in control of the entire boardroom, he shows this through his choice of
spoken language and body language; by saying can I clarify one thing . This reminds the candidates of
Lord Sugar s powerful position and where the future employee will stand with him; this also provides

I can tell he is very defensive in his speech because he says Lord Sugar with the greatest respect that s
an exaggeration . Jim is trying to persuade Lord Sugar he is incorrect in his thinking. However, Lord
Sugar is not taking what Jim has said into account. Even though Jim is trying to tell Lord Sugar he is
wrong in his thinking, he still addresses Lord Sugar in a formal way, this is most likely because he
feels threatened by Lord Sugar and knows he has the power to fire Jim, this is due to the control Lord
Sugar has over the contestants. So Jim knows he must consistently respect Lord Sugar, even though he
can say what he wishes to. Jim uses a very anxious tone to say this quote; this suggests he is trying to
cover up he has done something wrong. Jim accuses the other contestants, trying to get himself out of
trouble, he knows that if he takes the blame Vincent is more likely to take him back in to the
boardroom. The word exaggeration means Lord Sugar is making a bigger deal out of a situation than it
actually is. This could also suggest Jim is trying to show up Lord Sugar as someone who over
exaggerates.
Lord Sugar comes across as being a very controlling person, however by doing so he keeps everyone
on task. We re in this task later on, he proceeds to say yeah I want you to focus on this task . Lord

Sexual Orientation
Introduction
Homosexuality is defined or characterized as attraction towards the same gender either male or
female. It came from the Greek language, where homo means the same or similar, hence referring to
the attraction between two beings of the same sex. Homosexuality is also referred as a clinical term.
Most male homosexuals generally prefer to be called gay men and most homosexual women generally
prefer to be called lesbians. Homosexuality is one of the three main categories of sexual orientation,
alongside bisexual and heterosexual. The longstanding consensus of the behavioral and social sciences
and the health and mental health professions is that homosexuality is an example of normal and
positive variation in human sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nurture concept of homosexuality include elements which influence a human s sexual relationship
likes social, parental and environment variables. A total opposite from the idea of the nature concept, a
nurtured homosexual person is one that is made gay or lesbian.
While I don t believe the environment can make someone gay , it certainly can influence their
willingness to accept their sexuality and/or to come out to others. In communities where intolerance is
frowned upon and society in general is gay friendly , a gay child is more likely to feel comfortable
both with his/her own sexual orientation, and with sharing this information with family or friends. On
the other hand, in places where homosexuality is frowned upon or even punished, they are more likely
to keep it hidden, or even deny it to themselves.
The most controversial questions that arise in relation to sexual orientation are targeted towards how
one s sexual orientation forms, what factors go into it and most importantly whether individuals have a
choice in this process. According to the American Psychology Association, one s sexual orientation is
not adopted via an individual s choice, but rather develops as a result of cognitive and biological
factors and as well as by interacting with the surrounding environment. In simpler terms, there is a
possibility in everybody even you and me being a homosexual.

How The Oceans Can Feed The World
What if saving the oceans meant we could bring food to the hungry? Or something we re doing
because in return it creates jobs for local fishermen and preserves fishermen s jobs around the globe?
It s even more than an economical quest as well. Saving the oceans can feed the world. As you already
know, there are more than a billion people on this planet right now suffering from hunger.
Unfortunately, we re expecting this problem to worsen as the world s population continues to grow,
which will cause an immediate increase of stress on our food resources. Now that is a huge concern
for all of us, since our operational land per capita is already on the decline in both developed and
developing countries. Since climate change is happening, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing we need to do is locate the fish, which Oceana has done a great job of doing, fish are
conveniently located in the coastal zones of countries, these coastal zones are under the control of
national jurisdictions, which means each country can manage their own fisheries. It s a good thing that
these zones are controlled by national jurisdictions, because if it were done internationally, it would be
a lot more difficult for these changes to be put into action. The reasons why we should focus in on
these coastal zones, is simply because the fish. There are seven times as many fish in these zones
compared to the high seas, which means for us we have seven times more of a change to reestablish a
lot of our fisheries, and to feed hungry mouths. There are over 80 different coastal countries
throughout the world, which makes it hard to focus on all of them. However, not all 80 coastal
countries have a tremendous amount of coastline, so if we were to narrow it down to European
countries and 10 more countries with coastlines, it ends up being 90% of all the world s fish catch.
Based on Oceania s work here in the United States, we know that there are three key components we
have to do in order to bring these fisheries back to their full capacities, and they are: to set limits on
how much fish each country can take per

What doesn t kill you makes you stronger. Or that s at least what Kelly Clarkson says. However, I
highly disagree. For two long, straight years, I endured agonizing pain for what the doctors referred to
as an idiopathic disorder. This experience gave me a totally new prospective on life. One cloudy day,
in early September, I was walking around our property. All of the sudden, a scrawny orange cat slowly
and painfully crept up to me. I began to play with him for a while, but as I started walking back
towards my house the cat followed me. He followed me all the way up to the door. I went inside and
grabbed can of tuna and fed it to him. While the cat was eating I tried to pet him. I regret that decision.

Tim Burton uses camera angles and movement to create an intimidating and distressed mood in his
films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Vincent. One example of this is in the scene where a
small candy store that sells the heavily desired Wonka Bars is at the verge of opening up and there its
a zoom on an enormous crowd that is waiting outside ready to barge in and then a zoom on a little
cashier inside the store. The zoom emphasizes how small and petite the cashier is and then emphasizes
how huge and wild the massive crowd is. It overwhelms one s mind because there is no way that she
will be able to attend to them all and the audience can just hope that the cashier can handle the

Similarities And Differences Between The Zero And...
Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse 5 (1969) and Jess Walters novel The Zero (2006) share a series
of similarities not only in the formal aspects of the novel but also in their contents. Both authors create
a fictional narrative in order to present their experiences of two of the most traumatic events related to
the contemporary history of the United States: the participation of the United States in the Second
World War and the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11. Thus, both works can be seen as attempts to
re write reality after a traumatic experience.
First of all, both authors utilize autobiographical materials for their novels. In Slaughterhouse 5,
Vonnegut, like Billy Pilgrim, was an American soldier during World War II that was prisoned ... Show

In Slaughterhouse 5, as Rigney signals, Billy goes on to become a fairly successful businessman but
finally has a nervous breakdown that makes him become unstuck in time such that all past and future
moments in his life are always simultaneously present (Rigney 14). Nevertheless, it is important to
notice that the sense of fragmentation is more present in The Zero because from the very beginning,
the first sentence initiates the pattern of narrative interruption due to it is already fragmented: the first
five words do not become meaningful until five lines afterwards. If we apply this to a larger scale, the
same happens with a significant amount of scenes where the ending is not concluded but interrupted.
It is the case, for example, of the first sentence, whose ending is uncompleted: Mrs. Lubach opened
her mouth to answer but (Walter 7); and the next line starts another scene where Remy is at the
hospital waiting to be attended. Another example can be found some scenes afterwards, where the
sentence does not reveal what Remy found: Remy reaching for the falling glass and finding (Walter
22). For this reason, these breaks represent leaps in time or space that simulate the dissociative
episodes of the textbook PTSD with which Remy s psychiatrist diagnoses him after 9/11 (194) (Miller

Cane Toads
Are They All From Down Under? When you think of animals in Australia, you think of koala bears
and kangaroos, but you do not think about the species that have migrated there. Most animals in
Australia are originally from there and do not live anywhere else in the world. Wombats, can toads,
and kangaroos are three great examples, native or not, of how these fascinating animals who live
down under survive. Wombats are native animals of Australia and over the years they have had to
adapt in many ways to survive in their environment. According to Source 1, wombats have four
powerful legs that they use for digging . Wombats are burrowing, nocturnal creatures, their powerful
legs allow them to burrow in the ground all day and come out at night. ... Show more content on

Source 2 discusses, these toads were brought to Australia from Hawaii to try and lower the cane beetle
population. However, these toads had no effect on these creatures, but they do have some physical
attributes which are deadly to other native creatures of Australia. These toads are toxic, predators who
are native to Australia do not have any immunization to this poison (Source 2). The cane toads
poisonous abilities allow it to protect itself from predators it may have in Australia. These abilities
also allow the toads to capture their prey with more ease because their prey are not immune to their
poison. Source 2 states, cane toads kill native predators such as the quoll, a cat like marsupial . These
toads feed on native animals of Australia, whether they are eating the right animals is another debate.
Since these animals feed on native predators of Australia, there is not a shortage of them in their
habitat. The cane toad can easily find food in Australia, therefore they can easily stay healthy and
survive in Australia. Therefore, their reproduction rate is very high. According to Source 2, the cane
toad population has reached beyond two hundred million. Their high reproduction rate shows the cane
toads have not struggled to mate whilst living in the conditions of Australia. Therefore, since cane
toads have easily been able to adapt to life in Australia, they have been able to continuously
reproduce, generation after generation. Even though cane toads are not native to Australia, they have
not struggled to adapt to life

Analysis Of Local Search Algorithm For STP
From the tree SP we presented in the algorithm that we have obtained via Local Search Algorithm for
STP, we have generated the matrix of cost. This is done by assigning a cost to all the edges of tree SP
and by assigning a cost on n no. of nodes to all the other edges in graph. This assignment of cost helps
in recognizing the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning tree is n−1
(i.e. it passes n−1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair of nodes without using of
SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge). Consequently, the 802.1d protocol will produce the
intended spanning tree SP .

that we can get a bi connected graph. The bi connected graph has a significance that if any of the edge
becomes down then also the network will be connected via another edge. This gives us assurance of
always up time for a network. This means in case of link failure alternate link will always be present

Shrek Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The movie, Shrek, displays several examples of symbolic interactionism through fictional creatures.
The symbolic interactions in this movie explain the relationships between ogres and society, ogres and
fairytale creatures, and fairytale creatures and society, as odd as they may be in the fictional world.
The founders of symbolic interactionism, Charles Horton Cooley and George Herbert Mead, defined
this perspective as symbols things to which we attach meaning are the keys to understanding how we
view the world and communicate with one another. Shrek s first relationship was with society. In this
relationship, Shrek was the monster, ugly, evil, dangerous, and different creature, while society, the

In the medieval period, the Old English elegies use unnamed speakers that offer similar descriptions
of devastated landscapes and immense personal hardships. However, where the unknown authors of
the Old English elegies often present smilier descriptions and themes across their respective works,
they do not present similar opinions on larger concerns like religion and the role of community. This is
a concept that is interwoven into the framework of the Old English elegies The Wanderer and The

descriptions of the landscape being bound by ice (9), he does not focus on these descriptions to dwell
on the loss of an earthly community. Instead, the narrator in The Seafarer finds the landscape that he
inhabits wonderfully abundant with natural even spiritual elements that are commonly associated with
an earthly community. In the barren landscape, the seafaring narrator discovers the wild swan s song /

The Human Need For Personal Thoughts
The story was told by a non participant selective omniscient narrator speaking in third person point of
view, which was perfect because it enabled reader to understand the human need for personal thoughts
and feeling of each character clearly by jumping from one to another. The narrator guided the readers
to the thought of Alcee, wrote that he had unthinkingly drawn her into his arms, had aroused all the
old time infatuation and desire for her flesh. (Chopin 112) Alcee, the He in this sentence still loved her
, Calixta, since their separation. Due to the physical contact, Alcee did not want to hide his desire to
Calixta anymore. When they kissed, the narrator stated the thought of Calixta Oh! She remembered;
for in Assumption he had kissed her (Chopin 112). The narrator disclosed that they had been in love in
Assumption and both were passionate. Because of this evidence, reader was able to understand that
Calixta was in struggle between traditional family value and the desire of adultery. Apparently, Calixta
was inviting his lips (Chopin 112) and crushing on Alcee. Calixta betrayed her morality proactively
and brought the massive harm to her innocent family. At this moment, woman held the dominant right
emotionally. It critiqued women in general did not restrict from marriage but try to seek freedom from

The EAS brought together the ten ASEAN Leaders and their counterparts from Australia, China,
India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand to discuss crucial strategic, political and economic issues. On
the other hand, China, Japan and Korea joined their ASEAN colleagues in the APT.
In 20017 2008, the world suffers one of the most disastrous global economic crises in history.
ASEAN, reeling from the financial crisis, suffered a little over a decade ago, did not escape this global
phenomenon. Bolstered by numerous agreements such as the Vientiane Action Programme (VAP) in
2004, to further liberalize trade of goods and services, as well as the Enhanced Dispute Settlement
Mechanism, which provide a mutually accepted framework among member states to maintain
compliance in trade agreements, these efforts did not insulate the group from the global financial
crisis. In spite of the ASEAN s effort to ward off the effects of the crisis, ASEAN s important
economic endeavors were shortfalls due to their delayed implementation largely because of the
flexibility and consensus principles.
And in the wake of the global financial turmoil, the ASEAN member countries took the form of
significant monetary and fiscal stimulus to help the suffering businessmen affected by the crisis. In
Singapore, the government implemented the $20.5 billion Resilience Package to assist badly damaged
companies to stay afloat. In Malaysia, a RM700 million

Goals Of Diversity In The Workplace
Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it has been illegal to discriminate in regards to hiring, firing or
promotions based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability (U.S. Equal Employment,
2016). Organizations have adhered to this federal regulation, some more than others, by incorporating
this law into their policies and procedures for personnel. Adhering to the law through the hiring
process and during orientation by informing them that these practices are prohibited in regards to their
performance and work. In all fairness, most organizations have done a good job in adhering to this
law. If not only because by not doing so would cause potential for serious lawsuits. However, many

This can be measured through employment satisfaction surveys and analysis of human capital in

be easier to assess and implement strategies and goals to address these barriers. The second goal
should be to ensure that the current workforce is a reflection of the community in which the
organization serves. This can be measured by ensuring that the organization has a solid affirmative
action and equal employment opportunity plan in place then by assessing the data collected through
hiring to the relevant data from the surrounding demographic of the area to ensure that the
organization compares favorably. The third goal should be to attract, develop and retain a diverse
workforce in an inclusive manner that values and respects differences. This can be measure over time
by analyzing the retention rates of each demographic group in your organization. Employment
satisfaction surveys will also measure the effectiveness of this goal on employee happiness and
whether they feel that their differences are appreciated in the organization. The last goal should be to
increase the diversity of the top management team and senior level management of the organization.
The can be measured effectively by evaluating the senior positions to ensure that there is an equal
representation of women and minorities in top level positions of the organization. This particular goal
is extremely important in ensuring that the organization values and continues diversity and inclusion

Transnational Corporations And Human Rights Violations Essay
Introduction
This essay s thesis is that there is currently a lack legal apparatuses that can be used to hold
transnational corporations liable for human rights violations; specifically violation of labour rights.
This paper seeks to discuss various legal instruments that are applicable to transnational corporations
and human rights violations. It will also provide theoretical framework for understanding the nature of
human rights and legal framework of labour laws. This essay will address the following questions:
What is the legal status of transnational corporations? How can current legal apparatuses be used to
hold transnational corporations accountable for human rights violations? This essay will also consider
the case of human right violations by Nike Corporation in order to show that external pressures can
produce development and accountability.
2. Transnational Corporations
Current legal mechanisms of accountability fail to account for the fluid nature and power of influence
that transnational corporations possess. Transnational Corporations are not static in nature and have
tremendous economic and political influence over government policies. These factors result in a lack
of due diligence for transnational corporations to uphold human rights. TNCs are economic and legal
entities. In theory, TNCs are subject to the law of a country, to the jurisdiction of its courts, but often
this is abandoned by the government of countries. TNCs have tremendous influence

Negative Connotation Of Control
Control is a negative term that is thrown around too often in today s society. Everyone needs the right
amount of self control, but it s unhealthy to control the way others live. Control can be described
through many different situations. We see an excessive amount of control when it comes to interacting
with others. Control is factored into many family problems such as domestic violence and divorce
complications, which allows us to understand the negative connotation of control.
Domestic violence is becoming prominent in interpersonal relationships. Many celebrities have shared
their experiences with the public describing their controlling relationships. Tina Turner spoke with
Oprah regarding her abusive husband in 2005 (Scott). Turner explained the abuse she received from
her husband by sharing, He liked to show the public that he was in control and that he was a woman
hater. He also liked for his women to get up and walk across the floor for display so that other men
could see what he had. I didn t know how to get out of the whole situation. There were many times
when I picked up the gun when he was sleeping (Scott). Turner lived her life feeling like she was
owned by her husband because he restricted what she could do and say. She felt as if the only way to
escape the abuse was to end his life, but she pulled through and now shares her experiences to help
stop this nuisance. Mariah Carey also spoke out about her experience in an abusive relationship in

Cretaceous Mass Extinction
The Cretaceous mass extinction had two theories on how and why it happened through the impact
hypothesis. The first one was suggested that an asteroid collided with Earth 65 million years ago. Luis
Alvarez and his son, Walter Alvarez found high levels of the rare metal iridium in the layers of the
Earth during the periods of the Cretaceous and Tertiary located in Italy. Their proof is that it was the
cause of extinction by an asteroid the size of 10 kilometers. The second impact hypothesis was from a
crater that was found buried off the coast of Yucatan, Mexico. Due to the material that was thrown
from the crater into the air, plant life could not receive sunlight to survive. The same goes for animals

Is Cooking Really Freedom in Jim Sollisch’s Article,
Is Cooking Really Freedom?
According to Jim Sollisch s article, cooking is an outlet of expression and is not limited to one gender
(Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). Sollisch communicates of how his newfound interest and love of
cooking came out of an act of rebellion to allow the enrollment of boys in Home Economics classes
(Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). He effectively uses an informal tone and an abundance of short,
simple sentences appropriate for his audiences of NY Times and blog post readers. His copious
amounts of personal anecdotes provide credibility in the subject. His use of incomplete sentences and
colorful, easy to understand word choice puts him in the level of the reader establishing a personal
connection.
Sollisch s article is found on the New York Times website in the Private Lives section on the Opinion
Pages. Private Lives is a section for personal essays about real people s lives and problems they may
have encountered. This explains Sollisch s subject choice and why this is mainly an opinion essay. He
starts off with a personal story of how he first came upon the art of cooking (Sollisch, Cooking Is
Freedom ). He tops off his anecdote with similes such as when he describes the power cooking gives
him as similar to the power some kids feel when they get a driver s license (Sollisch, Cooking Is
Freedom ). Sollisch engages the readers with this simile because he makes himself very relatable to
his intended audience.

Acceptance In Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicle
An individual s feeling of acceptance is directly affected by their sense of belonging in the world,
through coming to terms upon where they truly do and do not belong. This sense of acceptance is
heavily reliant on an individual s attitude and experiences, as it revolves around where they seem to
belong in a society, culture, or environment, and their realization of place in the world. This
relationship between belonging and a sense of acceptance is explored through Peter Skrzynecki s
Immigrant Chronicle a series of poems published in 1975 depicting the struggle of an immigrant
family establishing themselves in post WWII Australia. The struggle for finding his place is explored
vividly through his works St Patricks College and Postcard , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both texts effectively explore and convey that an individual s sense of belonging lies fundamentally
with their acceptance and place in the world.
A sense of place and acceptance in the world often can only be accomplished through previously
feeling disconnected or alienated; finding where an individual does not belong before recognising
where they do. This cultivated sense of alienation, due to disconnection and displacement, is solemnly
conveyed throughout Peter Skrzynecki s poem St Patrick s College , as the poet struggles to find
connections emotionally, spiritually, or physically to the prestigious school he attends, evidently due
to having no place in that particular environment. Skrzynecki stresses through the first two stanzas his
immediate alienation through his forced enrolment to the impressive school by his Mother... wanting
only What was best , seemingly condemning her for expecting him to flourish in an environment he
did not relate with. The

Morality and Spirituality in The Book Bhagavad Gita Essay
In the book Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches Arjuna how to reach the highest stage of spirituality, and
ultimately the divine God. Krishna gives Arjuna a clear road map to follow so he can reach this goal.
Yoga is the main tool to obtain spirituality and it takes a lot of hard work and true determination to do
so. The main part of reaching spirituality is to depart this world and sense objects, and build strong
morals. Upon giving up worldly desire, one cannot but seek the Devine and by seeking God, one will
become spiritual. In the book The Last Days of Socrates, Plato describes Socrates reaction to the court
s decision of condemning him to death and how he spent his last few days awaiting death. Throughout
the entire court and while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some of the lessons in The Bhagavad Gita are different from what Socrates believed in, they
ultimately preach the same principles. The principles that Socrates held dear and described in The Last
Days of Socrates can be used to reach the spirituality described by Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita.
Socrates learned through the oracle of Apollo that he is the wisest man, and so he started to cross
examine other scholars to find a wiser man than him and prove the oracle wrong, but he fails every
time. He explains his actions as in obedience to the divine command (Plato 46). Socrates claims that
all the actions he did were to obey the mission God had appointed to him. Socrates believed in his
mission and duty in life, and was brought to death because of that. In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna to
love him, worship him, and obey the God so he can reach the ultimate joy. Know what your duty is /
and do it without hesitation (Bhagavad Gita 51). There is an obvious connection between what
Krishna was preaching and what Socrates was doing. Socrates was completing his duties.
In The Bhagavad Gita, Krishna emphasizes on doing actions and being detached of the fruits of
actions and tells Arjuna that: the wise man lets go of all / results, whether good or bad, / and is focused
on the action alone (Bhagavad Gita 55). Socrates followed this principle and did his duty without
caring about the results

Leonard Shelby s Use Of Narrative Techniques In Memento
Memento is one of the more unique mainstream films of the 2000s. In this film, we see the
protagonist, Leonard Shelby, in search for the man who raped and killed his wife. This is no typical
detective tale as Leonard s investigation is complicated by his anterograde amnesia, which he
develops from a blow to the head. Leonard cannot make new memories, which makes remembering
new facts about the murder impossible. As a result, Leonard relies on an extensive photograph record
and tattoos of facts about the case to stay focused on his investigation. Even with his methods,
Leonard is not able to keep up with all new information. Consequently, he is manipulated by a corrupt
cop (Teddy) who eventually tells Leonard that his wife did not die in the attack, and that he had
actually killed his wife s killer long ago but forgot about it. As a result of being manipulated, Leonard
writes on a picture of Teddy that He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The backward story telling implemented in Memento leaves the audience disoriented as the audience
experiences events without knowing the causes of those events (because Leonard s short term memory
forgets the causes of the event that takes place). The narrative structure of Memento truly accentuates
the condition of Leonard. Furthermore, the editing of certain sequences further disorients the audience
because the sequence of events is edited to fit the character of the fragmented mind of the protagonist.
Thus, the editing helps to reveal the mindset of Leonard. Finally, the color changes experienced from
certain scenes to other scenes highlight Leonard s forgotten parts of the story being told, which, again,
further complicates and disorients the audience to fit the disoriented protagonist. All in all, certain
elements of film can tell interesting and non traditional stories. No film can better exemplify this fact

Mark Antony s Use Of Persuasion In Julius Caesar
Persuasion is often more effectual than force (Aesop). Nearly 600 years before the assassination of
Julius Caesar, the famous Greek fabulist Aesop knew the power of persuading others. From then until
now, persuasion is a huge part of everyday life. Examples of persuasion include advertisements incall
forms of media: books, billboards, and especially speeches. One of the most celebrated speeches in
literary history is the one given by Mark Antony at the funeral of Julius Caesar in William

Repetition is a powerful form of persuasion that reinforces the speaker s message by repeating words,
sentences, and information. This can influence the reader s attitude toward a particular character or
event. During Mark Antony s speech, he continuously exclaims, But Brutus says he [Caesar] was
ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man... Yet Brutus says he [Caesar] was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
(III.ii.14,15,21,22)
Antony constantly reminds the crowd that Brutus was an honorable man while proving to the people
of Rome that Brutus was actually wrong about Caesar s ambition. This shows how Antony s repetition
as a form of sarcasm was so effective. He clearly states that Brutus is an honorable man, but when he
states this, he is simply mocking him and proving to the crowd that he, in fact, is not an honorable
man. Not only was Brutus wrong about Caesar in general, he was also wrong about killing Caesar.

Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept;
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;...

  • 3. My Experience At The Multicultural Dinners Growing up in a small mountain town there wasn t very much diversity to be spoken of. However, thanks to my parents, I was always encouraged and raised to never judge people who may seem different from myself because no matter the race, religion, gender or appearance, we are all the same on the inside. My first memorable experience that opened my eyes to the diversity that this world contains was in high school during a special event called the multi cultural dinner. The dinner consisted of different families that brought food, danced cultural dances, brought cultural costumes, spoke about their religion and more all based on their country and culture. I was blown away at all of the different things that go into each culture, or religion. I quickly discovered that I loved learning about cultures that were very different from mine. The more obscure the culture, the more I wanted to learn. From the connections I made and the people that I met at the Multicultural dinners, I was able to travel to Spain for a month the summer after high school. I can truly say that is an experience that I will never forget. I not only had to improve my Spanish, because my language was no longer the majority but the minority. I also had to learn a lot about the etiquette of the spanish culture, try different foods and much more. This all caused me to step outside of my comfort zone but also helped me to grow as person and to cultivate friendships and experiences that will last me a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on slyvia plath Sylvia Plath s quot;Mirror, quot; shows a truly thoughtful look into the different sights and feelings a mirror would have if it were a live conscious being, unable to lie. By showing the thoughts and emotions that a mirror would emit, Plath makes you look inward towards how you present yourself not only to your mirror but also to yourself. This is an eye opening poem because of its truthful descriptions of the relationship between the inner feelings of people and how their outward appearances that they portray of themselves affect them in and out of the public realm. Examples of this are put throughout the poem quot;Mirror, quot; and can be found in just about every line of the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next section of the poem introduces a woman into the life of the mirror. She look toward the mirror seeking to find what she truly wants to discover (beauty), and the mirror truthfully reflects back to her what it sees. She turns from the reflection as if to look for the quot;truth quot; in something else, not excepting what she has just seen. Unable to find it, the mirror sees her agitation and depression after seeing her true self within it. She is always looking into the mirror to make sure everything is perfect and to put everything in it s place, so to speak. In this the mirror, as the years seemingly pass, sees the young girl transform from her youth into an old woman and lose all that she has fretted over and over about throughout her life. Each day, she is reminded by the mirror of her lost youth and beauty that was once projected back at her so faithfully. The mirror in the poem is a representation of the truths in life that as a person is difficult to come to terms with in one s self. The woman s view of herself and her reluctance to accept her natural and God given beauty, shows how we all (as a society or as an individual) find it hard to accept ourselves for who we truly are. How we try to make ourselves into a conformed object of quot;popular beauty quot; based upon our outward appearance, instead of going by how our personal feelings that come from within us. ... • 5. Royal Alexandra Theatre On Friday September 22nd, I traveled downtown to King Street to attend the evening show of North by Northwest, directed by Simon Phillips, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. As I approached the theatre, it stood out amongst the busyness of Toronto streets due to a large, vibrant red poster that immediately caught the eye allowing for no mistake to be made about where the show was located. The roof above twinkled with hundreds of light bulbs, making any audience member feel the sense of glamour as they entered the building. The box office, although dimly light, had a friendly and respectful atmosphere with two kind ladies happy to help each person who entered their doors. The detailed and archaic design of the box office created a feeling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A variety of classic sound effects replicated the projection on screen in order to specify even further the actions being performed such as using the telephone, riding in an elevator, arriving at a train stop, and driving in a car. The sound effects created a connection to a more traditional sense of theatre amongst the new technological addition of projectors. With the busyness of the opening scene, a spotlight was used to appear on each actor as they spoke. This made it clear to the audience where they should be looking and it lessened the overwhelming feeling of multiple people being on stage at once. After the opening, the actors took off their own set pieces making for a quick and smooth transition into the next scene. The cage surrounding the stage was diversely used as walls, doors, and even an elevator. A separate cage piece was often lowered from above to divide the stage in half from left to right when the whole stage did not need to be used. I specifically admired that many of the set pieces had versatile purposes, such as the couch also being used as the back seat of a taxi or the front seat of a car as other cast members pushed it around on stage in order to create the sense of driving . All representations of people and politics are indeed acts of manipulation as true political agendas must be hidden behind a misleading facade. Language plays a particularly powerful role in portraying in these political representations. However ambiguous the political motive may be, control is the ultimate goal in the world of politics. Contrary to popular belief, not all acts of manipulation are inherently immoral or solely pragmatic. King Henry IV: Part 1 (1596 1597), the second historical play of the Henriad, by William Shakespeare, provides insight into these ideas as his own work is as such a representation of people and politics of the Elizabethan Era, two hundred years before his own time. ... Initially he sets himself a bad impression to the audience by being brash and irresponsible. Prince Hal s relationship to Falstaff and company was a tool for him in order to create for himself a notorious image which he could later shed and expose his true valor. At the end of Act 1, Scene 2, Hal, through his soliloquy, shows that he has a completely different perspective on his own actions, conceding that they are unsuitable for a King but that he is engaging in this behaviour for a clear political purpose. Hal uses the central metaphor of the sun in his speech: Yet herein will I imitate the sun (1.2.157) and creating imagery of the sun appearing from the clouds, symbolising his glorious rise from his behaviour: Being wanted, he may be more wondered at/By breaking through the foul and ugly mists (1.2.161 62). He ends with a rhyming couplet I ll so offend, to make offence a skill,/ Redeeming time when men think least I will (1.2.176 77). Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse 5 (1969) and Jess Walters novel The Zero (2006) share a series of similarities not only in the formal aspects of the novel but also in their contents. Both authors create a fictional narrative in order to present their experiences of two of the most traumatic events related to the contemporary history of the United States: the participation of the United States in the Second World War and the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11. This assignment of cost helps in recognizing the cost of the longest possible path between a pair of nodes in any spanning tree is n−1 (i.e. it passes n−1 edges) while the cost of the shortest path between any pair of nodes without using of SPT edges is at least n (i.e. passes one edge). Luis Alvarez and his son, Walter Alvarez found high levels of the rare metal iridium in the layers of the Earth during the periods of the Cretaceous and Tertiary located in Italy. Their proof is that it was the cause of extinction by an asteroid the size of 10 kilometers. The second impact hypothesis was from a crater that was found buried off the coast of Yucatan, Mexico. Due to the material that was thrown from the crater into the air, plant life could not receive sunlight to survive. The same goes for animals as the atmosphere was filled with dangerous ... • 27. Is Cooking Really Freedom in Jim Sollisch’s Article, Is Cooking Really Freedom? According to Jim Sollisch s article, cooking is an outlet of expression and is not limited to one gender (Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). Sollisch communicates of how his newfound interest and love of cooking came out of an act of rebellion to allow the enrollment of boys in Home Economics classes (Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). He effectively uses an informal tone and an abundance of short, simple sentences appropriate for his audiences of NY Times and blog post readers. His copious amounts of personal anecdotes provide credibility in the subject. His use of incomplete sentences and colorful, easy to understand word choice puts him in the level of the reader establishing a personal connection. Sollisch s article is found on the New York Times website in the Private Lives section on the Opinion Pages. Private Lives is a section for personal essays about real people s lives and problems they may have encountered. This explains Sollisch s subject choice and why this is mainly an opinion essay. He starts off with a personal story of how he first came upon the art of cooking (Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). He tops off his anecdote with similes such as when he describes the power cooking gives him as similar to the power some kids feel when they get a driver s license (Sollisch, Cooking Is Freedom ). Sollisch engages the readers with this simile because he makes himself very relatable to his intended audience. The essay itself contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Acceptance In Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicle An individual s feeling of acceptance is directly affected by their sense of belonging in the world, through coming to terms upon where they truly do and do not belong. This sense of acceptance is heavily reliant on an individual s attitude and experiences, as it revolves around where they seem to belong in a society, culture, or environment, and their realization of place in the world. This relationship between belonging and a sense of acceptance is explored through Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicle a series of poems published in 1975 depicting the struggle of an immigrant family establishing themselves in post WWII Australia. The struggle for finding his place is explored vividly through his works St Patricks College and Postcard , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both texts effectively explore and convey that an individual s sense of belonging lies fundamentally with their acceptance and place in the world. A sense of place and acceptance in the world often can only be accomplished through previously feeling disconnected or alienated; finding where an individual does not belong before recognising where they do. This cultivated sense of alienation, due to disconnection and displacement, is solemnly conveyed throughout Peter Skrzynecki s poem St Patrick s College , as the poet struggles to find connections emotionally, spiritually, or physically to the prestigious school he attends, evidently due to having no place in that particular environment. Skrzynecki stresses through the first two stanzas his immediate alienation through his forced enrolment to the impressive school by his Mother... wanting only What was best , seemingly condemning her for expecting him to flourish in an environment he did not relate with. • 30. Morality and Spirituality in The Book Bhagavad Gita Essay In the book Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches Arjuna how to reach the highest stage of spirituality, and ultimately the divine God. Krishna gives Arjuna a clear road map to follow so he can reach this goal. Yoga is the main tool to obtain spirituality and it takes a lot of hard work and true determination to do so. The main part of reaching spirituality is to depart this world and sense objects, and build strong morals. Upon giving up worldly desire, one cannot but seek the Devine and by seeking God, one will become spiritual. In the book The Last Days of Socrates, Plato describes Socrates reaction to the court s decision of condemning him to death and how he spent his last few days awaiting death. Throughout the entire court and while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some of the lessons in The Bhagavad Gita are different from what Socrates believed in, they ultimately preach the same principles. The principles that Socrates held dear and described in The Last Days of Socrates can be used to reach the spirituality described by Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita. Socrates learned through the oracle of Apollo that he is the wisest man, and so he started to cross examine other scholars to find a wiser man than him and prove the oracle wrong, but he fails every time. He explains his actions as in obedience to the divine command (Plato 46). Socrates claims that all the actions he did were to obey the mission God had appointed to him. Socrates believed in his mission and duty in life, and was brought to death because of that. In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna to love him, worship him, and obey the God so he can reach the ultimate joy. Know what your duty is / and do it without hesitation (Bhagavad Gita 51). There is an obvious connection between what Krishna was preaching and what Socrates was doing. Socrates was completing his duties. In The Bhagavad Gita, Krishna emphasizes on doing actions and being detached of the fruits of actions and tells Arjuna that: the wise man lets go of all / results, whether good or bad, / and is focused on the action alone (Bhagavad Gita 55). Socrates followed this principle and did his duty without caring about the results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Leonard Shelby s Use Of Narrative Techniques In Memento Memento is one of the more unique mainstream films of the 2000s. In this film, we see the protagonist, Leonard Shelby, in search for the man who raped and killed his wife. This is no typical detective tale as Leonard s investigation is complicated by his anterograde amnesia, which he develops from a blow to the head. Leonard cannot make new memories, which makes remembering new facts about the murder impossible. As a result, Leonard relies on an extensive photograph record and tattoos of facts about the case to stay focused on his investigation. Even with his methods, Leonard is not able to keep up with all new information. Consequently, he is manipulated by a corrupt cop (Teddy) who eventually tells Leonard that his wife did not die in the attack, and that he had actually killed his wife s killer long ago but forgot about it. As a result of being manipulated, Leonard writes on a picture of Teddy that He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The backward story telling implemented in Memento leaves the audience disoriented as the audience experiences events without knowing the causes of those events (because Leonard s short term memory forgets the causes of the event that takes place). The narrative structure of Memento truly accentuates the condition of Leonard. Furthermore, the editing of certain sequences further disorients the audience because the sequence of events is edited to fit the character of the fragmented mind of the protagonist. Thus, the editing helps to reveal the mindset of Leonard. Finally, the color changes experienced from certain scenes to other scenes highlight Leonard s forgotten parts of the story being told, which, again, further complicates and disorients the audience to fit the disoriented protagonist.
