Mythology In Fan Mythology
The definition of the term Myth is that it is defined by its content, context, and/or its function. Most
often when we think or hear the world myth we think of ancient Greek and Roman stories that tell us
tales of gods, heroes, and monsters; in the modern world it is also used to butter up advertisements,
and of course in fan fiction.
When you look at the concept of myth it has been important to the practice and analysis of fan work,
including fan fiction, on three levels: content, form, and theory. In terms of content, traditional tales
including mythologies provide us with characters, narratives, monsters, and story worlds for fans to
use in the generation of new fictions, as proven by the 2,173 stories in the Greek and Roman
Mythology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, mass culture is a method of cultural control, a key part of the workings of capitalist
domination.
However, there is a strong distinction between mass and popular culture that seems to be no longer
defensible to most media scholars and cultural critics, studies of fan creations such as fanfiction have
shown us just how entwined certain popular forms are with mass culture. Describing the texts of
popular culture as myths then becomes a way of claiming profitable culture as common culture and
the basis for a genuine fan culture that exists outside capitalist networks of production, distribution,
and consumption.
Of the 2,173 fics on AO3, around half remain within the Greek mythic historical story world: such fics
set are set within the Iliad world rather than the Odyssey, as well as fics about the Olympian gods such
as the popular Persephone/Hades, to the obscure, Helenus/Neoptolemus. The most common kind of
story that can be found here is a retelling of a myth that fleshes out the description of the classical
gods and heroes according to modern fictional and psychological norms. There are two main kinds of
modern retelling fanfictions on the AO3 site. The first being stories about how the ancient gods and
heroes have survived the modern world, and second, being crossover fics. In certain crossovers, the
characters from modern popular culture texts meet classical gods and heroes, as in liliaeth s The Pet

Redistricting, The Process Of Adjusting States
Redistricting, the process of adjusting states district lines to even the population among said districts,
has transformed into a science. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of agents
represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her own
district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific representative to the
House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution does not specify any
limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been left to the state
legislatures. The issue that we run into is that once placed in legislature hands, those in power have the
ability to draw the congressional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, let s say we have two districts in the same state. District A contains 900,000 people
compared to district B with 100,000. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth of
the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional, and
now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some court
cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of wiggle
room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic minorities,
the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of gerrymandering, but
whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that the current redistricting
process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to take the partisan politics
out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in the democratic process, and
relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces.
The United States of America has been built on a democratic foundation to protect and serve we the
people. The current government has two main parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, and they
will stop at nothing to maintain their positions within the government. Unfortunately, gerrymandering
is an action

The Prince Questions
Genesis Gonzalez Mr.Lee 5 AP European History 29 October 2012 The Prince Project Of the
Qualities for Which Men, and Most of all Princes, are Praised and Blamed 1. Which qualities does
Machiavelli say leaders will reap praise? Blame? a. Praise: courageous, merciful, faithful, religious,
trustworthy, generosity, humane b. Blame: coward, miserliness, cruelty, treacherous, unbeliever 2.
Which kind of qualities does Machiavelli recommend rulers to follow? Machiavelli recommends the
rulers to follow the good qualities, unless needs to protect himself from a vice who would not lose the
state for him or be prudent enough to escape a vice who would lose the state for him. Of Liberality
and Miserliness 3. Why does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prince is respected as well when he is a true friend and a true enemy, meaning that he sides with
another prince against another with no reservation. A prince should show that he that he is a lover of
talent and give recognition to men who have ability. He should encourage his subjects to be free in
trade and reward them because they are benefiting his city or state by aggrandizing it. How Flatterers
Should Be Avoided 13. What is the danger of flattery? The danger of flattery is that it is common that
powerful men become self absorbed, and wanting to defend yourself brings the danger of being
despised. 14. How should a prince go about avoiding flattery? A prince should go about flattery by
making men understand that telling the truth will not offend him. He should only let wise advisors
speak to him and only when he calls for their advice. He should not listen to anyone else and be firm
in his decisions. If the prince is kept from the truth, there will be punishment. Analysis: 15. Describe
the ideal leader, according to Machiavelli. According to Machiavelli, the ideal leader has good
qualities in him unless provoked and in need to protect himself. A leader should not be too generous
because then he will become poor. He will also start himself a reputation that will backfire. If he runs
out of money to give, and can give no longer, he will be hated for not giving.

1. What do you think of the cities plan ? I believe it s a good plan initially. In looking at the co
location of the City of Dallas and Kroeger plan. There, the City of Dallas has sufficient development
moneys, no fiscal constraints. Grandtown however HAS fiscal constraints that have prevented them
from renovating their existing library for years. Where is this money to build a modern new 9,000

Explain how you arrived at your answer. Will it loose some of its publicness ? Not in the full sense of
the definition. As a result of the disadvantages listed above, the Public Library will not

Who Is Thor Admirable
One character that is admirable in the movie Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh (2011) was Thor.
Thor was the proposed king of Aasgard. Right before his crowning his father decides that Thor was far
too ignorant and must be sent to Eearth to learn what it is to be a worthy king.Thor is to be admired
because he is selfless, determined and strong.
One thing Thor is admirable for is his selflessness. The Destroyer was sent by his brother to kill Thor.
Him and his friends fight against the destroyer but it is too powerful and they only end up hurting
themselves and damaging the town. Thor chooses to stand in front of the destroyer and sacrifice his
life so his friends and the town can be saved. Wide camera shots are used to show all the damage and
devastation around Thor. It gives us an insight into what might happen when The Destroyer attacks
and the places the characters can move to. An over the shoulder shot of The Destroyer was also used
to put the audience in Thor s shoes as he stood watching its every move. Thor s selflessness is a great
asset and something that develops throughout the movie, he is ... Show more content on

When Thor and his friends were battling the frost giants in Jotunheim they were outnumbered and
clearly losing. Even when his friends insist they leave Thor continues to fight even more determinedly.
He does not want to be looked upon as a coward who ran away making him an extremely admiral
character. The music at this point is building up to a climax to show the intense situation Thor is in. It
pauses to add suspense when Thor comes to the realisation that they may be outnumbered but rushes
on at a rapid pace when he continues. Thors determination in this scene is very admirable, even when
his friends were insisting they stop he continued to fight because it was what he believed was right.
Although it may have not been for the good of Asgard his self belief and overall determination are

Who Owns the Power to Control Communication
Some theorists seem to suggest that the power to control communication is held by the producers of
messages whereas other theorists argue that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by
the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. Which of these positions is true?
Why?
It can be agreed to a large extent that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by the
consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. However, this is not to refute
completely that producers of messages hold some power to control communication. Previous studies
of the theories of communication provide the set of assumptions that the process of communication is
actually one way. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
345). He felt that while encoders, or the producers of texts, played an important role in
communication, decoders, also known as the consumers who deduce the meaning of the texts, were
marginally more prevailing. The encoding phase is where a common set of codes are used to put
together a message but this phase takes note of the audience as both source and receiver of the
message. An example would be the mindset of a journalist whose main purpose of producing an article
is to provide the reader with something they desire to read. This implies that the consumers of texts
heavily influence the producers into developing texts with messages that the reader wants to derive
from them.
Another reason why the consumers of texts hold power over the producers is simply the copious
amount of texts that are made available to them. This increase in the choice between media and within
media has led to development of narrowcasting and niche audiences. With the advent of mass
consumerism and technology, the production of texts have skyrocketed, leaving the audience spoilt for
choice. Raymond Bauer (1964) placed an emphasis on choice that was anchored in and ensured by an
independent, even obstinate, audience. The active individual was a modern citizen consumer
patrolling the periphery of his or her consciousness with a vigilant consumerism (Biocca, n.d.). Bauer
(1964) felt that the consumers could not

Metaphors In Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God
Throughout the Eighteenth Century, religion fought a battle against science and those who
did not stand with the church were not looked at as ethical people. In the sense that they could not
possibly be good people if the did not live for God instead of themselves. Atheists were not the only
group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were
looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not
go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the
idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as
quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God .
Jonathan Edwards puts fear in all those who do not follow the word of God by talking about hell and
the punishment that unrepentant humans deserve. His metaphors including those about hell, the wrath
of God and the unworthiness of humans is successful in scaring the unrepentant to turn back to God
and as for forgiveness.
In one metaphor Edwards creates a clear image for his congregation when he explains that
unrepentant sinners are like heavy lead plunging toward hell without the help of God.
Edwards writes, Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with
great weight and pressure towards hell; and if God should let you go, you would immediately sink and

Assignment On Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness Assignment
Thinking about which country and culture to choose for this assignment was a difficult process
because there is a plethora to choose from! I decided to choose Spain as I lived there for a short period
of time. Spain, is a country located in western Europe and is bordered by Portugal, France, and
Gibraltar. It lies between the Mediterranean Sea to its east and the North Atlantic Ocean to its west.
When trying to understand a culture from a foreign perspective, it is important to analyze the
geography that makes up that country.
Spain s geography is unique because it is located on the Iberian Peninsula with mountainous terrain
throughout the landmass. The central portion of Spain mostly consists of high plateaus of land
surround by rocky hills. Integrated into these plateaus are rural farm and cattle lands that create much
of Spain s agricultural industry. This industry comes through the harvesting of barley and wheat,
however, the crops that produce the most value consist of citrus fruits such as oranges. The climate of
Spain varies from region to region, but in a majority of the country during the summer months, it is
arid and hot. Temperatures often climb into the triple digits, however there is relatively no humidity.
During the winter, temperatures tend to hover around fifty degrees Fahrenheit. It is difficult to
pinpoint regions of agriculture on a map of Spain, because the country is dotted with various mountain
ranges. Examples of such

Counter Terrorism Laws And Human Rights
COUNTER TERRORISM LAWS AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The moral rule is not when one is about to kill you, pre empt him and kill him first, but rather when
one is about to kill you, do everything necessary in order to thwart his intention. Accordingly, if there
is no alternative to killing him, strike first. If there is an alternative other than killing him, thwart his
intention without striking first, without killing him.
I Introduction
Human rights and national security are at times perceived to be at odds with one another. When
government officials speak about national security, their arguments rest primarily upon the premise
that protecting human rights and civil liberties is at times subservient to protecting national security. In
India, the government has passed stringent laws protecting national security and combating terrorist
threats, but these same laws cannot pass the test of human rights scrutiny. The international human
rights framework, conventions or treaties to which India was a signatory or ratifying party, also
justified the limitations on governmental powers. However, the contemporary reality of Indian
executive governance demonstrates the weaknesses and inadequacies of the treaties and conventions.
As a result, police, military and para military forces continue to violate human rights. This problem
underscores the need to develop a culture amongst law enforcement officials that respects human
rights as a sine qua non for the preservation of the rule of law.

Financial benchmarking involves running a financial analysis and making a comparison of the results
in order to assess a company s overall competitiveness, efficiency and productivity.
The information gained from such a comparison allows firms to determine how well they perform in

improvements or adopting certain best practices. Benchmarking is usually an ongoing process in
which companies continuously seek the improvement of their practices. (Debitoor, 2017)
Trend analysis reviews past data and tries to predict the future . A ratio analysis is a quantitative

Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish
kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for
the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the
life of King Charlemagne to be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of
information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and
proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of
Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to
set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew
that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate
his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his
behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make
Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his
writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

Deaf Culture Vs Deaf People
It is known that hearing people are superior to Deaf people. No one can sit and prove it, but you can
tell how a hearing person acts compared to how a deaf person acts when they walk into a room. The
hearing people are chit chatting and enjoying their time. The deaf person is looking around trying to
read lips but deep down is feeling isolated. Most Deaf people understand that they are equal to hearing
people and should not feel discriminated against. Deaf people sometimes still get treated different, but
most of the world is starting to treat them equally. They have been able to get more employment,
higher education, and higher job positions. In Bernard Bragg s book, Lessons in Laughter: The

Come to find out three years later, Silver was just jealous of Braggs accomplishments. Another thing I
learned about Deaf Culture is that since the Deaf community is usually small in a town, the Deaf
people usually keep up with each other. When Braggs asked about Silver, no one knew where he was
after graduation. At Gallaudet, Braggs had ended up going to the prom with Ruth. His friends joked
with him that he was going with her. Then he ended up being glad he went with her once he had a
good time at prom and she expressed how she was to be blind along with being deaf in six months.
Braggs was not always just all play; he did a load of work as well.
Jobs are more fun when people enjoy them instead of going just for the money. Braggs was a typical
man in changing his mind about what he wanted to do. In the beginning of this book, he is working so
hard on the set of a television show that he forgets his birthday was coming up. He became a teacher
after he graduated at Gallaudet. So glad that he finally graduated, he goes to rub it in his father s face
that he got an education. He ends up going to an empty theatre where Marceau was there and saw his
acting skills. Marceau then invited him to France to act with his troupe. No one in France knew about
Deaf Culture, so they did not understand his breathing and made him work on it for the play. This
book was surprisingly amazing. I tried to put myself in a deaf person s shoes

Klu Klux Klan History
After the infamous Civil War, a small group of young confederate veterans decided to make a little
group to relieve the boredom of having nothing to do. This small group would swell to the dangerous
and unpredictable hate grout known in many names like, white brotherhood, heroes of american,
constitutional union guard, invisible empire. There most famous name was the KKK or Klu Klux
Klan. Their history is of bloodshed, terror and racism that still haunts people to this day. In this paper,
you will read about the three KKK appearances throughout america s history. First, we will have to
start at where it all began.

Simmons after watching a black and white movie called Birth Of A Nation , which was about the
KKK. The movie showed the KKK as a needed and important part of the United States and was a
needed group to keep the United States of America from creating a Black empire in the south. By the
nineteen fifteen, William and others brought back the Klu Klux Klan to a much higher level gaining
about one hundred thousand members by the end of World War One. This is the point when the KKK
used the white sheets and cone shaped hats that made them famous. The Klu Klux Klan stepped up
their attacks not only on the African American population, but to catholics, jews, immigrants, and
alcohol. The end of World War One brought numerous members because skepticism of immigrants
and the loss of jobs for the people who went to go fight after World War One. The Klu Klux Klan s
members swelled from a few thousands in the eighteen hundreds to a massive one hundred thousand
members after World War One. The Klansmen stepped up their attacks by lynching and burning
crosses. This mayhem continued until around the nineteen twenties when the KKK s members were at
its peak with over five million. The KKK also had people in office and had control over part of the
government. Their numbers were so large that the president could not put any restrictions on them or
riots might occur. This all changed when the media and press attacked the KKK. With the help of the
media, public opinion started to change. This continued on until the nineteen forties when the member
count dropped to thirty thousand, a far cry from the five million it had acquired. The Klu Klux Klan
then broke into small groups and disappeared. The prime of the KKK is over but it is not dead

Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale...
The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two
pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and
Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic
female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both
Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted
as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One
sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact
opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and
romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many
different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It
appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each
layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of
sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps,
like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of
cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. The sculpture can be

The Oregon Health Services Commission
The Oregon Health Services Commission addressed budget cuts in 1990 by proposing a list of
Medicaid services. The list was ranked by priority, based on a cost effectiveness analysis. Access to
particular services became limited, but coverage was increased from 67% to 100% of the poverty
line1. Much protest broke out in regards to how the treatments were prioritized on the list. Some of the
dissatisfaction was of preceding events, such as the death of 7 year old Coby Howard following
funding cuts for organ transplants . Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure
enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took
affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay
will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services.
It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for
Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that
priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need
between individuals in resource allocation. Regarding Oregon s Health Services Commission, the
objective of the CEA was to identify and compare the costs and benefits of different health
interventions . The justification for this procedure, in light of funding cuts on Medicaid, was that the

Lab Report Density Lab
The purpose of the Density/Graphing Mini Lab was to determine how the density of a small amount of
a substance relates to the density of a large amount of the same substance. The density of a substance
is determined by the mass (resistance to change in acceleration) and the volume (how much space it
takes up). To calculate density the formula used is, F = m/v. Mass is measured in g, volume is
measured in mL, and density is measured in cm³. The hypothesis, If the density of a small amount of a
substance is compared to the density of a large amount of the same substance then they densities will
be the same because the ratio between mass and volume remains the same, was proven true as when

the results it was discovered that as the number of marbles increase the total volume increased due to
the increase of particles. The graph shows a straight line which also demonstrates how the ratio of
mass and volume will not cause a change in the density no matter how much of the substance is being
used. Possible errors that could have skewed the data include the water not being 30mL at first or a
broken calculator. If the water was not originally 30 mL then the total volume of the marbles would be
incorrect as the number wouldn t be accurate because of uneven starting points. If the calculator used
to find the answers is broken then the answers would all be inaccurate, which would mess up the data.
Possible ways to fix these errors could be making sure that when reading the graduated cylinder, it is

The Effects Of Alzheimer s And Dementia Among Elderly...
Introduction:
Alarming statistics project that by the year 2050, an estimated 115 million people globally will be
diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease. In 2011, the cost of Alzheimer s care in the United States
exceeded $130 billion (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Approximately 90% of older nursing home residents are
estimated to have a psychiatric disorder which includes Alzheimer s disease (Curlik, SM, et al, 1991).
In 2003, the report on the President s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, Achieving the
Promise: Transforming Mental Health Care in America, recommended that mental health must be
addressed with urgency in light of the prevalence of increasing diagnoses of Alzheimer s and dementia
among elderly populations ( President s New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Type 2 diabetes is associated with poor sensitivity to insulin. This had led some some researchers to
suggest that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012).
Discussion:
Alzheimer s disease is characterized by the development of plaque or protein deposits in the brain,
especially areas associated with memory. Brain neurons collapse, crumble, and lose connections with
other neurons which causes disorientation, confusion, erratic behavior, and partial to complete
memory loss. (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). While a poor sensitivity to insulin is associated with type 2
diabetes, some researchers including Dr. Suzanne de la Monte, a neuropathologist at Brown
University in Providence, Rhode Island, have suggested that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be
another type of diabetes. If these scientists are correct in their suppositions about diabetes and
dementia, immediate and troubling concerns are going to present overwhelming challenges to the
medical and senior care systems. Ewan McNay, of the University of Albany in New York states that if
the epidemic of type 2 diabetes continues on its current trajectory, it is likely to be followed by an
epidemic of dementia (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Alzheimer s disease is increased in individuals with
diabetes. Higher glucose levels in individuals without diabetes has also been associated with elevated
occurrences of Alzheimer s disease. These findings

Ancient Roman Home
It is amazing to know that the concept of architectural design to homes had already flourished even in
ancient Rome. The layout and functions of every Roman homes were intricately laid out for the
comfort of its dwellers. The pattern and designs were made susceptible to the heat of the
Mediterranean climate. Therefore, it is typical among the houses of the ancient Rome to have an
atrium and peristylium. These two parts of the Roman house were important. Its primary function is to
ventilate the corridors and rooms. This types of houses were common designs in both urban and rural
areas. On other hand, there were also big houses which refers to villas, where the rich people lived. In
addition, there were also tenement houses where poor people live, particularly to the household
workers or slaves ( The Romans web, n.d).

The spaces in homes designed only for two purposes for dining (triclinium) and for sleeping

of the house were named in Latin, however at the back of the house all parts of it were named in

In conclusion, we can see among the different types of houses in the ancient Rome the distinction and
gaps among the rich, middle class and the poor in terms of their homes. Villas and high end flats are
for the rich; town houses, for the middle class and filthy and dilapidated buildings were for the poor.
One thing I observed that if you are poor you must live in a dirty place and rich to a squeaky clean

The Disadvantages Of Prenatal Testing For Children
Prenatal testing includes an array of tests that give women information about their baby s health and
well being. These tests have established a basis for early detection and treatment of common ailments
during a woman s pregnancy. The tests offer a broad spectrum of information to women about their
baby s state of being; however, they can be dangerous depending on the procedure. Though helpful yet
risky, prenatal testing comes with both advantages and disadvantages. Prenatal testing provides many
advantages to women and their babies. One major advantage is the ability to detect a vast variety of
diseases and disorders before the baby is even born. According to Prenatal Screening and Its Impact
on Persons with Disabilities, The most frequently given reason is that [doctors] are trying to prevent or
ameliorate medical or disabling conditions that are genetically based (Kaplan par.4). By having these
advanced tests, it allows doctors to research and garner information on how to prevent a possible
disorder or disease. As reported by LiveScience, the tests can detect genetic disorders and birth defects
such as down syndrome, Tay Sachs disease, sickle cell anemia, or cystic fibrosis (Nierneberg par.2).
These tests give the parents an advanced notice on some issues they could possibly deal with now or
at a later time. The tests can also determine the sex of the baby which is always thrilling for the
parents to be. Another advantage of prenatal testing is that some

which contain indican. Most of theses plants were discovered independently around the world within

Junk Food And The Food Market
When people think of America they think of an abundance of food. What many do not realize is that
the majority of food produced in America, as well as the world, is thrown out. There is a seemingly
overwhelming food supply, yet there are people who go to bed hungry, most, if not every night. In
America it is known, yet not recognized, that there is a big issue with the food market; not all will
agree though. When it comes to buying food, if the shopper lives below the poverty line, then it is
impossible to buy nutritional healthy food. Junk food and soda are significantly cheaper than
vegetables and water. It does not make sense that food that has to be processed and takes extra effort
to create would be cheaper than the food that simply had to be picked. Yet, while there are people
suffering, food is still thrown out excessively. It would not be hard to change the system, but people
have to start caring. But we can find a solution that reduces waste and prices of healthy food as well,
but only if we first understand where the food is going to begin with. Food is thrown out everyday, it
is thrown out at excessive rates in developed countries, yet at the same time there are children and
people that go hungry every night. According to the United Nations Environment Programme,
Americans waste up to 30% of food or $48.3 billion on food by throwing it out. It is also estimated
that one third of all the food produced in the world gets lost or wasted (Food Waste Products). But

Betty Smith used A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to beat down the sexual stereotypes of the time. The male

Artistic Authenticity And Its Impact On The Middle Of...
Artistic authenticity is a pattern starting with mid nineteenth century French Literature. It stretched out
to late nineteenth and early twentieth century creators. It is the delineation of contemporary life and
the general public as it seems to be. Realist creators selected delineation of ordinary and hackneyed
exercises and encounters, rather than a romanticized or comparatively adapted presentation. In
authenticity the character is a result of social components and environment is the vital component in
the emotional entanglements. It looks for a balanced relationship in the middle of representation and
the subject. This structure is otherwise called mimesis. Realists are concerned with the impact of their
work on the peruser and the peruser s life, a down to earth view. Sober mindedness obliges the
perusing of the work to have some irrefutable result for the perusers that will prompt have a finer life
for the peruser. Authenticity plans to decipher the facts of any part of life, free from subjective
partiality, optimism, or sentimental shade. It is contrary to concerns of the abnormal, the premise of
Romanticism. Stresses the genuine over the awesome. Tries to treat the typical truthfully and utilized
characters from regular life. This accentuation was brought on by societal changes, for example, the
repercussions of the Civil War in the United States and the rise of Darwin s Theory of Evolution and
its impact upon bible based understanding. Authenticity emerged as a

Dl Vs Hl
High density lipoprotein or HDL is a good cholesterol. HDL is good for your body because it helps
remove cholesterol from the arteries and protects against dangerous blockages (plaques) in the
arteries. HDL cholesterol is also less likely than other forms of cholesterol to oxidize and leave sticky
plaques on artery walls. HDL particles are more dense than LDL particles, hence the names high
density and low density lipoproteins. HDL acts as a cholesterol scavenger, picking up excess
cholesterol in the blood and taking it back to the liver, where it s broken down. The higher one s HDL

Racism About Racism
To be honest, I ve only experienced blatant racism once in my life. I was in 7th grade, and I was
getting up to put my food away because my class was leaving. Suddenly, a foot came out of nowhere
and two seconds later, I found myself on the floor with my uneaten school food all over the ground
and me while being called a terrorist by a Caucasian. It wasn t a big ruckus, only both of our classes
saw what happened but it was still terrifying. My friends were about 8 feet away in shock, and not a
single soul helped me not that I expected it. I was a pretty emotionally strong and carefree kid.
Humans didn t scare me. If you poked me once I would just forgive you and move on with my little
life. To this day, I don t consider that a mortifying experience, I am completely fine. The boy that
called me a terrorist was held back the next year so karma came and did my job for me. What did
bother me, however, were the little, almost unnoticed glimpses of racism that would happen to me
which was completely shrouded away because teenagers were just expected to be rude people so it

America believes that racism has been conquered, I don t believe so. But as bad as these instances of

Essay about Understanding Depression
The term depression is widely misused in today s society. All human beings experience periods in life
where they are sad for a relatively short period of time, which is considered normal. Those who
experience sadness for extended periods may be suffering from depression. Two terms used to
reference the classifications of depression, are Major Depressive Disorder, and Dysthymia. Individual
diagnosis of these classifications is dependent on the length of time, and severity of symptoms
experienced by the individual. The causes for these depressive states can be due to genetics or the
insufficient production of neurotransmitters, which provide the brain with the data necessary to
regulate one s psychological well being. Two examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of following story is to introduce the symptoms of depression and an appropriate method
to provide positive intervention to help one who may be suffering from a depressive state. The ability
to recognize the symptoms of depression, and how to address the situation can mean the difference
between life and death. Marybeth and Kenny had been friends for as long as they could remember.
They were like peas and carrots always together. If you saw Kenny, you saw Marybeth and vice versa.
As they grow into young teenagers, this friendship continued. Approaching their senior year in High
school, they began to discuss what colleges they would like to attend. Being from the rural city of
Bumpus Mills in the Blue Grass state of Kentucky, they both had visions of seeing the world and
wanted to attend the University of Kentucky (UK), Located in Boiling Green. Their imaginations ran
wild with what life would be like in the big city. As the year, progressed Kenny and Marybeth excelled
in their studies, and submitted their applications for acceptance to UK. After several weeks Marybeth
received her letter of acceptance. Immediately, she ran next door to Kenny s house and asked if he had
received his letter. Kenny with a sad face expressed that he had received his letter, but the University
denied his application. Marybeth consoled Kenny, as he was her, best friend and

Essay on Incorporating 21st Century Technology into the...
Abstract Technology has become a hot item for school district to implement into the classroom. The
need for this technology comes from an every changing world and because of the way 21st century
students learn. Web 2.0 technology must be used and integrated into the classroom. However, many
problems occur when trying to integrate technology. Question on whether student achievement is
increased, failures of school districts, and new demands placed on teachers have caused a negative
spin on technology. In order to be successful, technology must be implemented correctly by the
community, administrators, and teachers together.

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be integrated
into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century technology
into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of achievement increases
(Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts (Owen 2004). The use of
technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many stakeholders that are on the outside
looking in do not understand how complex this process can be on teachers and the school districts
(Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to explore need for technology into classrooms and
to explain why this can be such a problem. To represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st
century learning styles and successful integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made
for why technology has been so hard to correctly integrate. Finally, correct implementation techniques
on a district, school, and classroom level will be examined to show that technology can and should be
used in today s classroom.
Body Need to move to 21st century Gap between 20th and 21st century learner There is a large
amount of people that support the increase of technology into the classroom. However, many of them
do not understand all of the benefits that technology really does bring. Many just think

Running head: ETHICAL DILEMMA: BRAIN DEATH
Ethical Dilemma: Brain Death
Mike Baker
University of Phoenix
Introduction
There has been an increase in the number of organs donated for transplantation since the development
and acceptance of brain death. (Guidelines for the determination of death, 1981) The strict rules
surrounding the diagnosis and the ability to develop individualized Policy and Procedures in the
determination of brain death has removed the fear of law suite surrounding this definition of death.
(Guidelines for the determination of death, 1981)
Old vs. New
Until brain death was introduced the diagnosis of death was the lack of cardiac function. Without a

In this case AMH has requested the SWOB to responded and recover organs for transplant. Once the
brain death diagnosis is made the attending doctor does not have any more contact with the patient.
This prevents the conflict of interest question from being raised.
The responding organ bank, as well as the centers that receive the organs for transplant, provide on
call doctors to assist in the recovery process. The hospital however maintains control of the patient.
This chain of command is for the protection of all involved in the recovery and transplant process.
In this situation the organ bank was challenging the diagnosis of brain death made by a member of the
professional staff of AMH. Not only was there a challenge but it was being made by some one other
then a doctor. Only a doctor can pronounce a patient dead. So here was another dilemma in that there
was a challenge to the doctor s diagnosis being made by a nurse. This in it self goes against the State
Nursing Rules for licensure. Nurses are not allowed to diagnosis nor practice medicine.
The transplant coordinator nurse needed the support of the organ bank s medical staff. The organ bank
s medical staff was not on scene and thus had to take the word of the transplant coordinator.
In this case the transplant coordinator could have just continued with the recovery and not said
anything. The coordinator could have

Homeschooling Disadvantages
George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach me
what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates
me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have latched onto Shaw
s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there are approximately
1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an alternative to mainstream
public schooling, and it is performed within the home through curriculums, co ops, or online
education systems. Homeschooling is advantageous because homeschooled children are proven to
perform better academically, they can avoid inimical mainstream school situations, and parents can
specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child individually.
First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to
perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have access
to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns, Meehan
and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the parents are
highly encouraging. They also accomplish more socially and academically because adults typically
view their children as advanced in comparison to other kids, causing children to live up to that
expectation (7). Because parents see their

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Optimism is an emotion that inspires hopefulness and confidence about the future. Optimism propels
people and novels forward. Optimism is a driving force in the novel Lord of The Flies by William
Golding and the novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. In the novel Lord of the Flies ,one of the
most important emotions is optimism. Without optimism the boys would have no hope that they would
make it off the island. At the start of the novel things are not going the boys way, their plane crashes in
the middle of nowhere and they do not know what to do. The boys are in a state of chaos and they
need a leader, the leader will soon be known as protagonist of the novel, Ralph. Ralph is elected by the
boys and he is optimistic about the boys survival on the island. I m chief, said Ralph, because you
chose me . [] Besides Ralph the other 2 main leaders are Piggy and Simon. Piggy is the brains of the
group but Simon is something else. Simon is pure and genuine, he believes in the good of all of the
boys on the island and that they will survive. You ll get back to where you came from. (7.15) Ralph
and Simon are the two optimists in a time of peril and without them the group would not be able to
function.
Another important example of optimism in Lord of The Flies are the usages of signs by the boys. The
boys use these signs to help ease the reality of what is really happening on the island. Ralph decides
the boys should make a signal fire to signal air and ship traffic

Anxiety, an unnerving feeling that brings uneasiness to the human mind. Thousands of individuals get
help from friends and loved ones, as they want someone to help them. With a constant source of
comfort, one can go too far, giving birth to an unhealthy need for someone called separation anxiety
disorder. According to the DSM 5 , this disorder is the fear of separation from attachment figures to a
degree that is developmentally inappropriate . Darling in Dorothy Parker s A Telephone Call displays
signs of separation anxiety disorder when talking about her man. The protagonists symptoms include:
an excessive distress when separated from her lover, a constant worry of losing her date, and a
persistent dread of a life without her partner. Parker s Darling stresses out over her separation from her
attachment figure. The plot revolves around the narrator waiting for her boyfriend s call. Patients with
separation anxiety disorder are frightened of not being in close contact to their loved one. These
people are overwhelmed when the person is gone, since they provide hope and joy. The phone call
acts as a stress reliever, a way for the protagonist to feel more secured. Once her stress reliever doesn t
work, Darling goes to God, accusing him for making her feel this way. She exclaims, You don t know
how it feels. You re so safe, there on Your throne, with the blue swirling under You... no one can twist
Your heart in his hands. This is suffering (120). She is infuriated at God,

How Does The News We See On Social Media Differ From What...
How does the news we see on social media differ from what we re being presented with on broadcast?
Which is likely to have more of an influence on citizens?
Throughout this essay I have selected to focus on the difference of news we see on social media
websites such as Facebook and Twitter to what we re being presented with on traditional media
platforms such as television and radio and which of the two is more likely to have an influence on us
as citizens who are consuming the news.
I will discuss the role of both platforms mentioned earlier and how they have had an influence on the
public thus far and how they differ on the deliverance of news and which is more credible. I will also
talk about which has the most influence over citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is all without looking into a news corporations agenda, political stance and reliability.
It s difficult to say whether citizens are more likely to be influenced more by the news they receive on
either social media or on television. A lot of the younger generations are likely to say social media is
more influential, whilst many of the older generations who aren t as, or at all active on social media
would claim broadcast is their most trusted source of information. In his book News and Journalism in
the UK: Fifth Edition, McNair shows that a report commissioned by Channel 4 in 2008 noted that TV
remains the most popular source of news across the British public as a whole. By then, 54 percent of
the 25 34 age group were using online journalism regularly, and the trend was clear further
fragmentation of the journalism market, further migration of audiences from print and broadcast to
online, with young media user moving furthest and fastest. (McNair, 2009, P.142). In earlier editions
of his book, another survey was conducted and people still listed television as their most trusted
source. This correlates with my point earlier, while television may well be the more trusted source,
younger citizens reading the news are likely to be influenced more by what they re reading online and

Chemical Reaction On Chemical Change
Analyzing chemical change
Abstract
Changes can be chemical or physical in nature. If a chemical change is taking place we will be
breaking bonds and forming new bonds and therefore creating a new substance. In a Physical change
we will have the same substance but simply in a new form. (Dickinson et al. 197). In order to collect
evidence to prove a chemical change is occurring we need a change in the indicators. The more active
a chemical is the more likely it will have a chemical reaction with another chemical. (Dickinson et al.
180) The higher the element is on the Activity Series the more reactive it is. (Dickinson et al. 192) A
reactive element will replace an element that is underneath it in the activity series. (Dickinson et al.
192) In this lab we will examine chemical reactions with the activity series, indicators and the type of
chemical reaction it is. The purpose of this lab is to study chemical change and analyze why and how
chemical reactions are created. In this lab we are going to combine certain chemicals with each other
to create a chemical change and we will observe and record any changes. The chemical reactions
listed in the Results had all gone through chemical change and all the indicators have been recorded.
Chemical change is very important and we need to learn more about them because without chemical
change we couldn t perform daily tasks.

Examples Of Three Messages In Tennyson s Ulysses
Not so Known.
(A Discussion on Three Messages in Ulysses.) Alfred Lord Tennyson was a poet during the 1800 s and
during the industrial revolution. He was one of twelve children born in his family. He was a sensitive
kid that was in love with charming words. After the death of Tennyson s friend Arthur Hallam dies, it
gives Tennyson motivation to write several poems relating his death, including Ulysses. The loss of
Hallam, recently engaged to marry Tennyson s sister Cecilia, dealt a serious blow to Tennyson. He
soon drafted Ulysses, Morte d Arthur and Tithonus three poems prompted by the death, but all with
strong classical echoes that spoke to his expressly modern and personal sentiments (Vella). Ulysses is
a story about a famous hero named Ulysses but in this story of Tennyson s, it s about the years later of
Ulysses life, not his hero faze. In Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson represented three messages of
living life to the fullest, There is always something new to learn, and to never give up. The first
message in Tennyson s Ulysses is living life to the fullest. Tennyson explains Ulysses after life saying
he has grown old with age, but his desire to travel and live still burns deep within. I cannot rest from
travel; I will drink life to the lees (6). Living life to the lees means living life to the fullest. Ulysses
doesn t want to grow old and stay in the same place, doing the same things, and he realizes that the
only thing that can stop him from living life

Comparing Hasker And The Star Trek
Upon reading both Hasker and the Star Trek synopsis, I have come to the conclusion that Picard and
Maddox exhibited different views of Data and because of this difference in beliefs tension is felt
throughout their arguments. To begin, I feel the mind/body problem exhibited by Picard is one of a
materialistic view which states, Man is a wholly material being (Hasker, P. 69). Throughout Picard s
argument it becomes apparent that he regards Data, who is an android, as an officer aboard his ship
and deems him more than just a machine. The reading suggest the human brain functions in a way that
resembles a self operating computer similar to the computer found in Data (Hasker, P. 70) Hasker adds
that our thoughts and other functions of the brain are simply the characteristics of complex, highly
organized physical systems namely that of the brain (Hasker, P. 70). Throughout Picard s argument he
repeatedly echoes Data s use of the word my in respect to Data s rights, freedoms and choices and
asserts the idea that Data is comprised of a brain and body working together forming both ideas and
emotions. Picard views him as having the capability to feel the same emotions as humans as well as
the capacity to make decisions in the same way as a human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Within this nature of thinking Picard skillfully argues the mind is not separate from the body though it

  • 2. Mythology In Fan Mythology The definition of the term Myth is that it is defined by its content, context, and/or its function. Most often when we think or hear the world myth we think of ancient Greek and Roman stories that tell us tales of gods, heroes, and monsters; in the modern world it is also used to butter up advertisements, and of course in fan fiction. When you look at the concept of myth it has been important to the practice and analysis of fan work, including fan fiction, on three levels: content, form, and theory. In terms of content, traditional tales including mythologies provide us with characters, narratives, monsters, and story worlds for fans to use in the generation of new fictions, as proven by the 2,173 stories in the Greek and Roman Mythology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, mass culture is a method of cultural control, a key part of the workings of capitalist domination. However, there is a strong distinction between mass and popular culture that seems to be no longer defensible to most media scholars and cultural critics, studies of fan creations such as fanfiction have shown us just how entwined certain popular forms are with mass culture. Describing the texts of popular culture as myths then becomes a way of claiming profitable culture as common culture and the basis for a genuine fan culture that exists outside capitalist networks of production, distribution, and consumption. Of the 2,173 fics on AO3, around half remain within the Greek mythic historical story world: such fics set are set within the Iliad world rather than the Odyssey, as well as fics about the Olympian gods such as the popular Persephone/Hades, to the obscure, Helenus/Neoptolemus. The most common kind of story that can be found here is a retelling of a myth that fleshes out the description of the classical gods and heroes according to modern fictional and psychological norms. There are two main kinds of modern retelling fanfictions on the AO3 site. The first being stories about how the ancient gods and heroes have survived the modern world, and second, being crossover fics. In certain crossovers, the characters from modern popular culture texts meet classical gods and heroes, as in liliaeth s The Pet Whisperer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Redistricting, The Process Of Adjusting States Redistricting, the process of adjusting states district lines to even the population among said districts, has transformed into a science. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of agents represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her own district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific representative to the House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution does not specify any limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been left to the state legislatures. The issue that we run into is that once placed in legislature hands, those in power have the ability to draw the congressional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, let s say we have two districts in the same state. District A contains 900,000 people compared to district B with 100,000. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth of the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional, and now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some court cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of wiggle room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic minorities, the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of gerrymandering, but whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that the current redistricting process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to take the partisan politics out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in the democratic process, and relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces. The United States of America has been built on a democratic foundation to protect and serve we the people. The current government has two main parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, and they will stop at nothing to maintain their positions within the government. Unfortunately, gerrymandering is an action ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He should encourage his subjects to be free in trade and reward them because they are benefiting his city or state by aggrandizing it. How Flatterers Should Be Avoided 13. What is the danger of flattery? The danger of flattery is that it is common that powerful men become self absorbed, and wanting to defend yourself brings the danger of being despised. 14. How should a prince go about avoiding flattery? A prince should go about flattery by making men understand that telling the truth will not offend him. He should only let wise advisors speak to him and only when he calls for their advice. He should not listen to anyone else and be firm in his decisions. If the prince is kept from the truth, there will be punishment. Analysis: 15. Describe the ideal leader, according to Machiavelli. According to Machiavelli, the ideal leader has good qualities in him unless provoked and in need to protect himself. A leader should not be too generous because then he will become poor. • 7. Who Owns the Power to Control Communication Some theorists seem to suggest that the power to control communication is held by the producers of messages whereas other theorists argue that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. Which of these positions is true? Why? It can be agreed to a large extent that the power to control interpretations of texts are held by the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts. However, this is not to refute completely that producers of messages hold some power to control communication. He felt that while encoders, or the producers of texts, played an important role in communication, decoders, also known as the consumers who deduce the meaning of the texts, were marginally more prevailing. The encoding phase is where a common set of codes are used to put together a message but this phase takes note of the audience as both source and receiver of the message. An example would be the mindset of a journalist whose main purpose of producing an article is to provide the reader with something they desire to read. This implies that the consumers of texts heavily influence the producers into developing texts with messages that the reader wants to derive from them. Another reason why the consumers of texts hold power over the producers is simply the copious amount of texts that are made available to them. This increase in the choice between media and within media has led to development of narrowcasting and niche audiences. With the advent of mass consumerism and technology, the production of texts have skyrocketed, leaving the audience spoilt for choice. Raymond Bauer (1964) placed an emphasis on choice that was anchored in and ensured by an independent, even obstinate, audience. The active individual was a modern citizen consumer patrolling the periphery of his or her consciousness with a vigilant consumerism (Biocca, n.d.). Bauer (1964) felt that the consumers could not ... Metaphors In Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God Throughout the Eighteenth Century, religion fought a battle against science and those who did not stand with the church were not looked at as ethical people. In the sense that they could not possibly be good people if the did not live for God instead of themselves. Atheists were not the only group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . Jonathan Edwards puts fear in all those who do not follow the word of God by talking about hell and the punishment that unrepentant humans deserve. His metaphors including those about hell, the wrath of God and the unworthiness of humans is successful in scaring the unrepentant to turn back to God and as for forgiveness. In one metaphor Edwards creates a clear image for his congregation when he explains that unrepentant sinners are like heavy lead plunging toward hell without the help of God. Edwards writes, Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with great weight and pressure towards hell; and if God should let you go, you would immediately sink and ... • 10. Assignment On Cultural Awareness Cultural Awareness Assignment Thinking about which country and culture to choose for this assignment was a difficult process because there is a plethora to choose from! I decided to choose Spain as I lived there for a short period of time. Spain, is a country located in western Europe and is bordered by Portugal, France, and Gibraltar. It lies between the Mediterranean Sea to its east and the North Atlantic Ocean to its west. When trying to understand a culture from a foreign perspective, it is important to analyze the geography that makes up that country. Spain s geography is unique because it is located on the Iberian Peninsula with mountainous terrain throughout the landmass. The central portion of Spain mostly consists of high plateaus of land surround by rocky hills. Integrated into these plateaus are rural farm and cattle lands that create much of Spain s agricultural industry. This industry comes through the harvesting of barley and wheat, however, the crops that produce the most value consist of citrus fruits such as oranges. The climate of Spain varies from region to region, but in a majority of the country during the summer months, it is arid and hot. Temperatures often climb into the triple digits, however there is relatively no humidity. During the winter, temperatures tend to hover around fifty degrees Fahrenheit. It is difficult to pinpoint regions of agriculture on a map of Spain, because the country is dotted with various mountain ranges. Examples of such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Counter Terrorism Laws And Human Rights COUNTER TERRORISM LAWS AND HUMAN RIGHTS The moral rule is not when one is about to kill you, pre empt him and kill him first, but rather when one is about to kill you, do everything necessary in order to thwart his intention. Accordingly, if there is no alternative to killing him, strike first. If there is an alternative other than killing him, thwart his intention without striking first, without killing him. I Introduction Human rights and national security are at times perceived to be at odds with one another. When government officials speak about national security, their arguments rest primarily upon the premise that protecting human rights and civil liberties is at times subservient to protecting national security. In India, the government has passed stringent laws protecting national security and combating terrorist threats, but these same laws cannot pass the test of human rights scrutiny. The international human rights framework, conventions or treaties to which India was a signatory or ratifying party, also justified the limitations on governmental powers. However, the contemporary reality of Indian executive governance demonstrates the weaknesses and inadequacies of the treaties and conventions. As a result, police, military and para military forces continue to violate human rights. This problem underscores the need to develop a culture amongst law enforcement officials that respects human rights as a sine qua non for the preservation of the rule of law. ... The more I have read, the more I have found new ways to keep my readers entwined to what I want to say when using tone or writing style. By reading many books I have found new ways to make my writing exceptional. My most memorable experience started my first day of my Junior Senior year. However, people have to realize that most gun crimes are committed by stolen or illegal fire arms. • 21. Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the life of King Charlemagne to be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive. ... The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. The list was ranked by priority, based on a cost effectiveness analysis. Access to particular services became limited, but coverage was increased from 67% to 100% of the poverty line1. Much protest broke out in regards to how the treatments were prioritized on the list. Some of the dissatisfaction was of preceding events, such as the death of 7 year old Coby Howard following funding cuts for organ transplants . Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services. It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need between individuals in resource allocation. Regarding Oregon s Health Services Commission, the objective of the CEA was to identify and compare the costs and benefits of different health interventions . The justification for this procedure, in light of funding cuts on Medicaid, was that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The density of a substance is determined by the mass (resistance to change in acceleration) and the volume (how much space it takes up). To calculate density the formula used is, F = m/v. Mass is measured in g, volume is measured in mL, and density is measured in cm³. This had led some some researchers to suggest that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). Discussion: Alzheimer s disease is characterized by the development of plaque or protein deposits in the brain, especially areas associated with memory. Brain neurons collapse, crumble, and lose connections with other neurons which causes disorientation, confusion, erratic behavior, and partial to complete memory loss. (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). While a poor sensitivity to insulin is associated with type 2 diabetes, some researchers including Dr. Suzanne de la Monte, a neuropathologist at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, have suggested that Alzheimer s disease may in fact be another type of diabetes. If these scientists are correct in their suppositions about diabetes and dementia, immediate and troubling concerns are going to present overwhelming challenges to the medical and senior care systems. Ewan McNay, of the University of Albany in New York states that if the epidemic of type 2 diabetes continues on its current trajectory, it is likely to be followed by an epidemic of dementia (Trivedi, Bijal, 2012). In America it is known, yet not recognized, that there is a big issue with the food market; not all will agree though. When it comes to buying food, if the shopper lives below the poverty line, then it is impossible to buy nutritional healthy food. Junk food and soda are significantly cheaper than vegetables and water. It does not make sense that food that has to be processed and takes extra effort to create would be cheaper than the food that simply had to be picked. Yet, while there are people suffering, food is still thrown out excessively. It would not be hard to change the system, but people have to start caring. But we can find a solution that reduces waste and prices of healthy food as well, but only if we first understand where the food is going to begin with. Food is thrown out everyday, it is thrown out at excessive rates in developed countries, yet at the same time there are children and people that go hungry every night. HDL is good for your body because it helps remove cholesterol from the arteries and protects against dangerous blockages (plaques) in the arteries. Suddenly, a foot came out of nowhere and two seconds later, I found myself on the floor with my uneaten school food all over the ground and me while being called a terrorist by a Caucasian. It wasn t a big ruckus, only both of our classes saw what happened but it was still terrifying. My friends were about 8 feet away in shock, and not a single soul helped me not that I expected it. I was a pretty emotionally strong and carefree kid. Humans didn t scare me. If you poked me once I would just forgive you and move on with my little life. To this day, I don t consider that a mortifying experience, I am completely fine. The boy that called me a terrorist was held back the next year so karma came and did my job for me. What did bother me, however, were the little, almost unnoticed glimpses of racism that would happen to me which was completely shrouded away because teenagers were just expected to be rude people so it was acceptable. It was the small things that hurt me the most, and even though the greater portion of America believes that racism has been conquered, I don t believe so. But as bad as these instances of racism hurt me, it s what made my mind strong and taught me to be happy. Homeschooling Disadvantages George Bernard Shaw, an influential Irish writer, once said, My schooling not only failed to teach me what it professed to be teaching but prevented me from being educated to an extent which infuriates me when I think of all I might have learned at home by myself. Many parents have latched onto Shaw s beliefs and have made the audacious decision to home educate. Currently, there are approximately 1,642,027 homeschooled children in the U.S.A. alone. Home educating is an alternative to mainstream public schooling, and it is performed within the home through curriculums, co ops, or online education systems. Homeschooling is advantageous because homeschooled children are proven to perform better academically, they can avoid inimical mainstream school situations, and parents can specialize curriculum in the best interest of their child individually. First and foremost, when a student has a positive environment to be surrounded in, they are able to perform better academically. To start, when children are homeschooled, they continuously have access to highly encouraging parents who push them to do their best. In an article by Johnna Burns, Meehan and Stephenson stated that kids tend to achieve greatly as homeschoolers because the parents are highly encouraging. This is all without looking into a news corporations agenda, political stance and reliability. It s difficult to say whether citizens are more likely to be influenced more by the news they receive on either social media or on television. A lot of the younger generations are likely to say social media is more influential, whilst many of the older generations who aren t as, or at all active on social media would claim broadcast is their most trusted source of information. In his book News and Journalism in the UK: Fifth Edition, McNair shows that a report commissioned by Channel 4 in 2008 noted that TV remains the most popular source of news across the British public as a whole. By then, 54 percent of the 25 34 age group were using online journalism regularly, and the trend was clear further fragmentation of the journalism market, further migration of audiences from print and broadcast to online, with young media user moving furthest and fastest. • 48. Chemical Reaction On Chemical Change Analyzing chemical change Abstract Changes can be chemical or physical in nature. If a chemical change is taking place we will be breaking bonds and forming new bonds and therefore creating a new substance. In a Physical change we will have the same substance but simply in a new form. (Dickinson et al. 197). In order to collect evidence to prove a chemical change is occurring we need a change in the indicators. The more active a chemical is the more likely it will have a chemical reaction with another chemical. (Dickinson et al. 180) The higher the element is on the Activity Series the more reactive it is. (Dickinson et al. 192) A reactive element will replace an element that is underneath it in the activity series. (Dickinson et al. 192) In this lab we will examine chemical reactions with the activity series, indicators and the type of chemical reaction it is. The purpose of this lab is to study chemical change and analyze why and how chemical reactions are created. In this lab we are going to combine certain chemicals with each other to create a chemical change and we will observe and record any changes. The chemical reactions listed in the Results had all gone through chemical change and all the indicators have been recorded. Alfred Lord Tennyson was a poet during the 1800 s and during the industrial revolution. He was one of twelve children born in his family. He was a sensitive kid that was in love with charming words. After the death of Tennyson s friend Arthur Hallam dies, it gives Tennyson motivation to write several poems relating his death, including Ulysses. The loss of Hallam, recently engaged to marry Tennyson s sister Cecilia, dealt a serious blow to Tennyson. He soon drafted Ulysses, Morte d Arthur and Tithonus three poems prompted by the death, but all with strong classical echoes that spoke to his expressly modern and personal sentiments (Vella). Ulysses is a story about a famous hero named Ulysses but in this story of Tennyson s, it s about the years later of Ulysses life, not his hero faze. In Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson represented three messages of living life to the fullest, There is always something new to learn, and to never give up. • 50. Comparing Hasker And The Star Trek Upon reading both Hasker and the Star Trek synopsis, I have come to the conclusion that Picard and Maddox exhibited different views of Data and because of this difference in beliefs tension is felt throughout their arguments. To begin, I feel the mind/body problem exhibited by Picard is one of a materialistic view which states, Man is a wholly material being (Hasker, P. 69). Throughout Picard s argument it becomes apparent that he regards Data, who is an android, as an officer aboard his ship and deems him more than just a machine. The reading suggest the human brain functions in a way that resembles a self operating computer similar to the computer found in Data (Hasker, P. 70) Hasker adds that our thoughts and other functions of the brain are simply the characteristics of complex, highly organized physical systems namely that of the brain (Hasker, P. 70). Throughout Picard s argument he repeatedly echoes Data s use of the word my in respect to Data s rights, freedoms and choices and asserts the idea that Data is comprised of a brain and body working together forming both ideas and emotions.
