Urinary Tract Symptoms
1. Introduction Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which may include storage symptoms (urinary
urgency, nocturia), or voiding symptoms (urinary hesitancy, weak stream, straining, and prolonged
voiding), can have a significant negative impact on quality of life.(1, 2) An estimated 45.2% of the
worldwide population is affected by at least one urinary symptom. (3) Out of 19,165 individuals
surveyed in a cross sectional, population based, multinational study conducted by Irwin and
colleagues, 64.3% reported at least one urinary symptom, with nocturia being the most prevalent
(men, 48.6%; women, 54.5%). (4) Similarly, in a national study conducted by Herschorn and
colleagues in Canada on 1,000 respondents, approximately half of the individuals ... Show more

Comparing Fortune In Hamlet And The Prince
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about a prince who needs to get revenge for the
murder of his father. The Prince, written by Niccolò Machiavelli, is a treatise on how to take and hold
on to political power. Both Hamlet and The Prince contain the concept of fortune as a common theme
throughout each work. Fortune is talked about in similar ways in both, including how fortune is a
woman, how much control fortune has over people, and how fortune is like water. Fortune is
associated with the goddess Fortuna from Roman mythology in both Hamlet and The Prince. Fortuna
is the Roman goddess of luck, fate, and fortune. Fortuna is referred to in a sexual manner by both
Shakespeare and Machiavelli. In Hamlet she is referred to as a strumpet: ... Show more content on

Again, Fortune is called a strumpet, as First Player pleads with all the other gods to destroy her wheel,
sending the hub of the wheel rolling down from heaven into hell. Fortune is also personified in The
Prince:
My opinion on the matter is this: it s better to be impulsive than cautious; fortune is female and if you
want to stay on top of her you have to slap and thrust. (Machiavelli 136 137)
Machiavelli is using sex as a metaphor to say that to subdue Fortune, one must be impulsive and assert
their dominance over her. Hamlet believes he leaves too much up to fortune because he thinks too
much without taking enough action. In his to be or not to be soliloquy, he reflects on how he
overthinks things, saying conscience does make cowards of us all . Hamlet wishes he wasn t like this
and admires people like Horatio and Fortinbras for taking action and not letting fortune control them.
Hamlet praises Horatio for the way he deals with fortune:
A man that fortune s buffets and rewards
Hast ta en with equal thanks: and blessed are those
Whose blood and judgment are so well commingled
That they are not a pipe for Fortune s finger
To sound what stop she please. (Shakespeare

Epilogue To Romeo And Juliet
Now that I am five my chief will tell me how the sky lit up, Long Ago, before you and I were born,
the sky chief sent his son down to earth, where there was no light at night... Now since all of you are
all five I have to tell you the story my chief told me forty years ago when I was your age. Now lets
begin, Long ago, before you and I were born, the sky chief ordered his son down to earth, where there
was no light at night. The sky chief s son was named Lusio which means light. Lusio s job was to find
something that would light the sky up. The great fireball in the sky only lit up the sky for half of the
day. At night, the fireball went away and the sky turned dull and black like the fur of all the black

her way down she asked the birds flying her down if they have seen anything lighting up but they said
that they are asleep when everything glows at night. Learning from her brothers mistakes she asked a
rabbit that was hopping around, Do you know where to find something that is capable of lighting up
the night sky? The rabbit replied, You should try to find an owl. They are awake at night and can tell
you what lights up. Hakidonmuya went on a search for an owl that took her all around the world just
to find one owl. Once she found an owl she asked, Do you know of anything living or nonliving that

Domestic Surveillance During The United States
Domestic Surveillance in the Unites States has been going on for decades without the public s
knowledge. Domestic Surveillance didn t seem important in the eye of the American government.
After the September attacks (9/11) congress started to treat Domestic Surveillance as a number one
priority. After September 11th Congress passed a law to use military force for those responsible for the
attacks in New York, NY. The go ahead with using military force did not give the President to use
surveillance without a warrant. Congress started to pass legislation against counterterrorism efforts.
The most controversial measures, including the 2001 USA Patriot Act that gave the US federal
government the ability to collect and analyze private information that has identified itself with the
United States of America.
With new found ways of viewing American citizens personal information the federal government had
to learn how not to get caught. American citizens have right to their privacy and with all the new
Domestic Surveillance programs many were warrantless. In 2002 Bush signed a presidential order
allowing the National Security Agency to monitor without a warrant. This presidential order applied to
international telephone calls and e mail messages of thousands of citizens and legal residents inside
the United States. This program never had the requirements to obtain or produce a warrant from the
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court but, as the 4th Amendment to the Constitution

Carl Rogers Person Centered Theory
The person centered theory was created by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. At the time when this approach
began it was considered radically different than those that were available. All theories were
predominately therapist centered, symptom focused, or orientated to making personality changes.
Rogers approach let the clients take charge and lead their direction of change. Rogers was the first to
use the word client to refer to an individual seeking psychotherapy. Implicit in his theory is the basic
premise that people are essentially good. The person centered theory views an individual from a
different perspective than other theories in that what is important is an individual s perception of their
reality rather than the event itself. This is so central to his theory that it is often referred to as self
theory. In order for a healthy self to emerge, people need genuine and positive regard. However, if in
childhood an individual receives conditional acceptance, it teaches them to feel valued only when they
conform to others wishes (GCU, 2014; Murdock, 2013). In using the person centered theory approach
there are considerations to apply such as goals and interventions, theory duration, counselor s role,
client s role, appropriate populations, social and cultural needs, and risks..
Goals and Interventions The goals of the person centered theory include focusing on the client as a
person, not their problems. Clients are assisted in learning how to cope with the

Raps Extremely Powerful Influence Essay
Raps Extremely Powerful Influence
Rap music has been a part of this world since the 1960 s, and it has gone through hundreds of different
stages in its time. However, the number one thing that people think of when they hear rap music is
crime, violence, alcohol, drugs and other negative influences. Despite these common beliefes on what
rap music is about, it can be an extremely positive influence. Educating the youth and community
about the bad things happening around us and how they re affecting people. It can also be used to give
people ideas on how they can help better these negative happenings. Generally rap music, whether you

Rap music is easily accessible by the means of television, newspapers and other media these days, and
because of the high percentage of negative rap music, it shows how influenced people are by this.
Another major issue with the influence in rap isn t the rap music itself, but the lyrics associated with
the music. For example, Time Warner should stop its sponsorship and promotion of lyrics that
celebrate rape, torture and murder....Our appeal is to a sense of corporate responsibility and simple
decency. This shows that, lyrics in these mass produced albums and records of rap music are the main
purpose for this bad influence on people who listen to rap music. This also shows that, the themes
commonly used in rap music are vulgar and unappealing but people could and have been seen to be
extremely influenced by them. In addition, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R, Kan.) condemned
gangsta rap artists for producing music extolling the pleasures of raping, torturing and mutilating
women and songs about killing policemen and rejecting law. This shows that, people are largely
against rap culture and what it has become. This also shows that companies nowadays are publishing
and releasing this music to the public, even though they are fully aware of the behavior it promotes.
This is especially affective in influencing young teens who look up to these rap

The East India Company
The East India Company was a British joint stock company establish on the 31st of December, 1600
under the original name The Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies. Over the
next hundreds of years the Company set a sail attempting to find riches in trade on their journeys to
these new lands. They found value in crops such as indigo, salt, cotton, silk, opium and other cash
crops that the barren land of Europe lacked. This would be the company that would set sail to the land
of India and dominate its soil from the middle of 1700 s to the middle of the 1800 s. In a little over
fifty years the East India Company was transformed from a body of traders controlling a scattered
group of commercial settlements round the coasts of India into the rulers of provinces with a
population popularly supposed in Britain to contain fifty or sixty million inhabitants. The Company
was able to find its growth and power from wealthy merchants and aristocrats that would invest their
money into the Company after seeing how successful they were becoming. A healthy amount of these
wealthy investors were part of the British Parliament. This intertwined government views and beliefs
with the business side of views and beliefs. With more and more backing though, the Company slowly
grew a ship or two every now and then until they were a full fleet of trade ships moving massive
amounts of crops. Colonies were eventually set up and the land was taken for the new Englishmen,

The 2nd Vatican Council Essay
The 2nd Vatican Council
Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of
ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent
Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground
breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they
enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today.
Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and
unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and accepting of
other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined.
Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the
breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary
man. That concern would soon be dispelled.
In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s
bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest
of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However,
despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That
was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the
council.
On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real
introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat
of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre
selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that
happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber
stamp council.
That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or
consensus found. Of

Shonio.Session1.Journal I took both the Personality Quiz (which says I am an Adventurer ISFP A) and
the Resiliency Quiz (I scored an 82). Both quizzes seem to be pretty accurate. I find being around a lot
of people and being in stressful situations are sometimes difficult for me to handle. I do better with a
group of a few people that I know. I tend to stay in my comfort zone. I watch and listen to how people
act. I trust my instincts on whether or not I should open up about myself and things I have gone
through in my personal life. This is definitely both a blessing and a hindrance. I often keep people at
an arms length distance as to not let myself be used and taken advantage of yet at the same time I try
to see the good in everyone.

5 Major Compounds That Make Up the Human Body
The Five Major Compounds That Make Up the Human Body
The human body is one of the most complex and fascinating things on this planet. There are five
major groups of compounds that compose the human body. These are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins,
nucleotides, and water. These compounds are all very important to humans and without them humans
would not be able to survive. Compounds have many functions that encourage a human cell and a
human body to function.
Compounds are pure substances made up of atoms of two or more elements chemically combined
together in fixed ratios determined by mass. When a compound is formed from its components, a
chemical change takes place through chemical reactions. Elements form compounds to ... Show more

The lipid molecules are most well known as forming basic structures of cell membranes and as energy
storage molecules as well. There are various types of lipids, three main types include: true fats
(triglycerides), phospholipids, and steroids.
Lipids are also described as fatty acids. Fatty acids are merely carboxylic acids with long hydrocarbon
chains. The fatty acid structure is one of the most fundamental categories of biological lipids, and is
commonly used as a building block of more structurally complex lipids. Fats that include these
molecules are unsaturated fats. Other fatty acids have no double bonds. Fats that include these fatty
acids are saturated fats. In most human health situations, the consumption of unsaturated fats is
preferred to the consumption of saturated fats. Like carbohydrates, lipids can also be categorized into
simple and complex.
Simple lipids are defined as those that are on hydrolysis yield at most two types of primary product
per mole; complex lipids yield three or more primary hydrolysis products per mole. Hydrolysis is a
chemical process in which a certain molecule is split into two parts by the addition of a molecule of
water . Alternatively, the terms neutral and polar lipids respectively are used to define these groups,
but are less exact. The complex lipids for many purposes are best considered in terms of either the
glycerophospholipids which contains a

At this point, Family Dollar was probably a better stock to invest in. Dollar General had also
experienced a decrease in total assets over this period while Family Dollar s assets increased by nearly
25 percent. The accounting errors that took place accompanied with lawsuits that followed played a
major role in some these numbers for Dollar General. I believe that both companies performed well
financially. If it wasn t for the lawsuits, Dollar General probably would have performed much better
financially then Family Dollar. Based on the factors mentioned above, it s hard to say who performed
better financially. Dollar General s net income may have been higher but they had a loss in total assets
and also had a much lower EPS. 2. What is your assessment of the accounting problems at Dollar
General? Did anything unethical occur? What evidence indicates that the misstatements were simply
errors, with no deliberate intent? What reasons can you think of that would account for why the
misstatements might well have been deliberate and not simply inadvertent errors? The accounting
restatement was unfortunate for Dollar General but I don t believe it will have had that big of an
impact when they look back on it in the future. Their strategies allowed them to keep a profitable

Mrs Bennet Married In Today s Society
In the 19th century, it was a common practice for families to marry off their daughters for wealth and
security rather than love. Mrs. Bennet, a character who lives in that century wanted her daughters to
get married so that she can live a secure and comfortable life. However, as time progress people
viewed marriage as a way to express one s feeling towards each other. Fewer people relied upon
marriage as a way of boosting their status. And eventually, many western cultures and societies today
adopted the concept of marrying for endearment rather than security. If Mrs. Bennet lived in today s
society it becomes difficult for her to get integrated due to the way her character is portrayed, and how
little regards she has for her daughters.

her daughters. When Mrs. Bennet first hears about Jane s invitation to Mr. Bingley s home

Jane severely sick, she disregards it and proceeds with her scheme. From this, it shows Mrs. Bennet as

Some argue that Mr. Bennet s eventual death caused Mrs. Bennet to risk Jane s health. It makes sense
because if Mr. Bennet dies, then Mrs. Bennet loses her comfortable lifestyle. On the other hand, most
people that read this novel and delve deep into Mrs. Bennet s character understand that her actions

Moreover, her disregard for Jane shows that she is not suited to be a mother. Overall, Mrs. Bennet s

Herodotus Analysis
In the beginning of the book The Essential Herodotus the author Herodotus describes the process
through which he crafted his history. Herodotus mentions that he never intended to write a history of
Greece, but rather a historie, consisting of research and investigations that he had conducted
throughout his travels. Herodotus is known as the father of history ; he was the first person to begin to
create a formal, documented account of the history of Greece. Throughout his travels, Herodotus
acquired new knowledge of geography as well as the belief systems of foreign civilizations. Herodotus
writing style is unique compared to the other ways historians craft histories. For example, Herodotus

landscape was to show how impressive Cambyses army was. Egypt is a mostly desertious region, with
the Nile being the only major source of water. According to Herodotus, the reason Cambyses and his
men were successful in their assault because there had been water jugs placed throughout the desert to
prevent people from dying of dehydration. Overall, I feel that Herodotus crafted his history the way he
did because there wasn t a set guideline on how to write history to begin with. Traveling to other
countries was the only way to completely validate the facts, and certain countries proved to have
different information than what Herodotus had grown up learning. Herodotus makes it a point to
include mythological references to his history to extend his credibility and give this writing a reliable.

Classical Music Comparison
What is classical? Serious or conventional music following long established principles rather than a
folk, jazz, or popular tradition. This is the universally accepted definition of what classical music is.
But what is classical music defined as in my opinion? Well, classical music for myself falls within the
serious category, same as the first definition. A serious composition of music without vocals. Classicl
was also a time period, and that is what I will focus primarily on for the subject and question at hand,
what is classical? Classical music has had different periods which includes romantic (1804 1910), but
classical itself as a period (1750 1820) was a clear un textured form of music in comparison to the
others. One well known artist that fell under the classical period was Mozart. Mozart was and is one of

The Ongoing Energy Debate
The Ongoing Energy Debate As we all know, the energy debate has been ongoing for decades. There
is a laundry list of opinions concerning energy use and production. When it comes to oil we are all too
aware of the price and demand for what has proven to be the most valued resource on the planet.
Advocates of alternate energies insist that the end of oil is nearer than most of us may think, while
proponents of petroleum assure us that due to technological advancements there are still large
untapped reserves which promise to see us through the next century despite our increasing demand for
this black gold.
One proponent of alternate energies, James Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency outlines the need
for an alternative fuel source, but also explains the pit falls of alternate energy sources. The reason oil
is such a valued and highly used commodity is because of its efficiency and wide range of uses
compared to other energy sources. The truth is that no matter what proponents of alternate energies
say, there is no good substitute at this time for oil which is largely the reason we re still using it.
Kunstler explains the pitfalls of hydrogen energy, coal and solar. The hydrogen used in fuel cells is
largely derived from natural gas resources, coal is less versatile and solar energy is expensive to
produce. Considering the cost of oil at the consumer level it seems common sense that if there was a
cheaper, comparably efficient substitute we would be jumping at the

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The film American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a film about imprisonment and escape from
imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man
whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost
of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this film
such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, Mendesʼ use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the filmʼs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the audienceʼs

Interestingly, as the film progresses and Lesterʼs relationships evolve, the camera angles also evolve in
reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like Carolyn are shot
in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera angles give Lester a
triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by
film directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as
Mendes (1999) states when referring to Lesterʼs work setting. As Lesterʼs quest for escapement gains
momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this film through subtle
furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with Lesterʼs sexual fantasies. The use of
the vibrant, red rose petal is first introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend Janeʼs cheer
performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his first tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999).
Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion
and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is repeatedly seen throughout the film in
house furnishings such as a bouquet of

Wind Chill
Wind chill is the perceived decrease in air temperature felt by the body on exposed sin due to the flow
of cold air. Wind chill temperatures are always lower than air temperature. The human body loses heat
through convection, evaporation, conduction and radiation. The rate of heat loss by a surface through
convection depends on the wind speed above that surface. As a surface heats the air around it, an
insulating boundary layer of warm air forms agains the surface. Moving air disrupts the boundary
layer, allowing for new, cooler air to replace the warm air against the surface. The faster the wind

Although high winds can make those of us with a pulse feel more miserable than normal, they don t
have the same effect on inanimate objects. Lower wind chills mean that inanimate object to the
temperature more quickly, but even high winds can t force the object s temperature below the air

chil factor you hear reported assumes that your exposed face is roughly five feet off th eground, it s
night, and you re walking directly into the wind in an open field at a clip of about 3 mph. Remember,
the basic concept behind wind chill is that stronger winds will cause exposed skin to cool more
quickly. The faster skin cools, the faster frostbite can set it. As wind chills drop south of 50 or so, the
onset of frostbite can take as little as five minutes, so it s worth keeping an eye on the wind chill even
if the notion of your skin feeling like a certain temperature may be a bit misleading. Space blankets

The Social Impacts Of The Gilded Age
The rapid growth of the economy in the United States the Gilded Age generated a lot of wealth. The
growth of the railroads, telegraph and later telephone lines stretching across the country created new
opportunities for entrepreneurs and the people looking for work; and gave cheaper goods to
consumers.
The Gilded Age was a term used in the 1920s and 1930s derived from Mark Twain s novel of the same
name, which mocked an era of serious social problems. Mark Twain and Charles Darwin saw the
corruption in the politics, the ineffectiveness of the politicians, the frenzy in the marketplace and the
widespread greed among the people. The society showed a huge difference in regard to who had

Because with growth in the economy comes the growth in income inequality. But this doesn t
necessarily mean that there is a huge inequality in the concept of consumption in our society. Over
time, the consumption among the less fortunate has become similar to that of the wealthier in some
ways. There are now new technologies and knock off fashions that spread down the price scale too
fast to distinguish the rich from the aspiring for long. There are also more available in regard to leisure
activities for both the poor and the wealthy that are quite similar that makes the inequality a lot
narrower. For example, if you would like to watch a movie, the wealthy can go to an expensive movie
theater and spend lots of money on it but the poor can also catch the same movie in a different theater
for literally nothing in comparison and get the same outcome. So the biggest difference in this
situation is the experience of enjoying this movie, but they both accomplish what they intend to do.
Also, there are now companies that turn out higher quality goods at low prices which helps close the
gap between the rich and the poor. But for example, access to a good education is a way that the
increasing income inequality affects people

Poor Living Conditions In The 1800s
In the 1800s and 1900s one problem was the poor living conditions in New York City and other cities.
In the 19th century, more and more people began crowding including immigrants seeking a better life
than the one they left behind. In New York City, buildings that had once been single family dwellings
were increasingly divided into multiple living spaces (known as tenements) to accommodate this
growing population. These buildings were most often cramped from the number of people who lived
there, poorly lit and and lacked indoor plumbing and proper ventilation.
Jacob August Riis was a Danish American social reformer, muckraking journalist and social
documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help the
impoverished in New York City. While living in New York, Riis experienced poverty and so he
attempted to reduce the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to the
middle and upper classes.
In 1890, Jacob Riis published his most famous work, How the Other Half Lives, a book that used

When the Industrial Revolution started, many families had to find someone to work or they wouldn t
survive. When European immigrants came, they brought opinions that said children should work. That
s when children really started working. When it all started it went widespread and no one became
concerned when children were not getting a modest education. By 1900, millions of children were
working so as their families could survive. Immigration only made the child problem worse. Children
worked at many jobs, anything that gave them an income to give to their family. The most popular
were factories and mines. Other jobs were working in fields picking cotton and working in the streets.
Working in the street jobs included shining shoes, selling newspapers, canning fish, making clothes

The Impact Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a period in the 18th century in Europe where and emphasis of mass
production using machinery were at a peak due to large numbers of factories and workers. The
Industrial Revolution allowed for innovation to spread rapidly throughout the 18th century in Britain
then throughout the rest of the world. Inventions such as the sewing machine, cotton gin, as well as the
telephone were invented during this time period. Modern society was then able to build upon the
strides made during this time to create the urban metropolises we see today. Without a period of
development for technology, the modern world would possible be in a farm based system where rural
agriculture is prominent as it was prior to machinery. But with speculation there is no true way to find
out what the impact of a world without the Industrial Revolution would look like. Despite goods being
made easily and quickly in factories, there were many negatives brought along with this that tainted
the image of the Industrial Revolution. As stated in document 2 the condition of these factories were
poor. Employees had to work in cluttered, unsanitary conditions for long hours. Despite working for
around 15+ hours per day, workers were paid inadequately. This caused parents to have their children
work in these unsanitary factories and mines to help support the family. This caused for them to be
delicate and sickly , but since more income was coming in, parents around Europe has more kids

Major Key Roles Of Social Media In The 21st Century
Social Media plays a huge and major key role with our lives as human beings in this day and age of
the 21st century. The role that social media plays is that millions of people could connect and meet all
over the world on one website or one app to meet others of the same interest, and other topics that they
enjoy or love such as video games, reading, board games, mathematics, etc. . Horrifically, over the
years criticism began on the dawn of social media has caused a spread of rumors, fear, and disgust into
these social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, parents worry about
their children s protection and fear that one wrong post could spell disaster for the family of the child.
Families have proposed that adult link protection should be linked onto children s social media to
watch them to make sure that they don t look or do mischievous or horrific acts to other older or of the
same age, but i believe that with this thesis and action of choices, we could make the internet a safer
and child friendly place or all. Three ideas that could help with supporting my thesis is 1. Sort social
media by age groups and types of cultures, 2. Have people not be able to post their location or address
without extensive security question and material, and 3 make usernames and passwords for social
media websites more secure, and to protect people s valuable information from criminals. My First
reasoning to support my thesis is that we should have different types

Barack Obama as an Agent of Change Essay
I believe the nation is not in peril per se, but the country is notably stagnant economically,
educationally, and in a war that has been severely mismanaged. I believe a change, a new circulation,
and fresh thinking is in order and I believe Sen. Barack Obama is currently the most viable agent of
change. It seems as though his often repeated platform banner of CHANGE seems to be exactly what
most citizens are yearning for. In pouring through and examining countless research for this paper, I

cannot hope to shape a world where opportunity outweighs danger unless we ensure that every child

back to a general principle. This is one of the great (and unfortunately rare in politics) things about
Obama. He speaks so eloquently, but instead of sounding like a drone that has been fed speeches to

hard to get the audience to feel like they have a stake as well. It will indeed be interesting as to who

Lunch Break Research Paper
Lunch is a big problem in this school. I have noticed that we don t have long breaks every day. My old
school used to have two breaks of half an hour each. I think that system will be better for students, if
we get a longer lunch instead of one 30 minute lunch break and a small nutrition break.
http://www.todaysparent.com says that lunchtime is the time to socialize and talk with your friends.
Socializing is an important thing in school and the more we have it the better. Also you have to eat

two 1.5 hour periods. For a long day like that only 45 minutes of breaks is too short. The new plan
would have a 1.5 hour period followed by a 15 minute nutrition break. Then you will have another

that contains an hour and 15 minutes and finally the last 1.5 hour period. You will still have a start at

class so the periods are actually 1 hour and 25 minutes and 1 hour and 15 minutes for third period.
This new schedule will work much better in my opinion. Students will have more time to relax and eat
their lunch during lunch break. This will cause for a healthier life turns out of research on

A Brief Note On Remote Sensing And Gis Technologies
3.2 Incorporation of Remote Sensing Remote sensing and GIS technologies were initially developed
for different purposes. However, both these resources can provide information about the earth s
natural resources. Advancements in computer hardware and software technology now make it possible
for data from these sources to be easily integrated. Most GIS software packages allow remotely sensed
data to be imported, or at least viewed, within the software application. This ability allows the analyst
to overlay remote sensing data layers with other 5 spatial data layers. Analysts use remotely sensed
imagery with GIS data sets for a variety of reasons, including providing a continuous regional view of

Nurses are exposed to the most dangerous diseases, harmful and hazardous drugs. This is why they
tell nurses to read carefully through the basic guidelines. I came across the important qualities as a
nurse. There are several things they need: critical thinking skills, compassion, detail oriented,
emotional, organizational skills, patience, and speaking skills. The median annual wage of registered
nurses was $64,690 in May 2010. That s enough to buy a house or even a brand new car. The median
wage at which half of the workers in a nursing earned more than that amount and half earned less. The

it will also be more need for home healthcare. Now that means more back problems and even more

The Impact Confucius, Gandhi, and Western Ideas had on China, Japan, and India The future depends
on what you do today (Gandhi). In Japan, China, and India each country was faced with similar
opportunities, and chose a different path that has impacted their future, setting them aside from one
another. When Western countries came into China, India, and Japan, each country reacted differently
to the Western ideas that these foreigners brought which would then change the culture. Japan and
China secluded themselves from other countries, while India stayed open, inviting modern ideas into
its culture. Trade then increased in India s economy, while it broke apart China with the Opium War.

Pros And Cons Of Rf-Deforestation
Ra is equal to the total revenues obtained from the harvest (paya) minus the costs on labour (wla),
capital (qka), and transportation (vad) Note that the distance is included in the transportation costs. In
the case without and alternative use, which ensure keeping the forest stand, the agricultural frontier
expands until the distance where Ra equals zero. Transportation costs may be too high at this point.
Thus, to reach markets is too costly and deforestation stops.
The relation Rf deforestation is exactly the opposite of the relation Ra deforestation: the higher the Rf,
the lower the deforestation. Rents coming from forest activities vary with respect to the aggregation
level. At the local level, forest rents include the same variables agricultural rents do. However, at
bigger aggregation levels, such as regional/national, or global, other forest ES are included. Provision
costs at such level are zero since they are provided directly by the forest ecosystem.
To achieve forest conservation requires making the forests profitable enough to compete with
agricultural activities. This appears as an obvious conclusion of this model. To find the way to

A Report On A Government
A government should always be open to criticism, be held accountable for their actions, and be honest
when notifying the public of any events. This creates government transparency and allows its citizens
to hold their leaders accountable for their actions. In order to create this transparency in today s
society, a technical system must be set in place. This technical system needs to contain government
documents which are easily accessible to the public. But, not all documents should be housed in this
accessible database. Some government knowledge should be kept secret and inaccessible, because it
could fall into the wrong hands. Documents containing economic information, such as budgets and
spending should be readily available on a database for the public to access. Without a transparent
government, citizens can become unruly and no longer trust their government due to the high volume
of secrets or hidden documentation.
Solution I My first solution to this issue is to open a cloud database which would house any
documents containing government budgets, spending, and/or salaries. This database would be
accessible to everyone with the means to access a cloud database. The database could be accessed via
an application downloaded onto a computer or mobile phone. There is already an app with these
specifications available for Montgomery County in Maryland. The app was built by Socrata, a Seattle

Essay on The Tests for Market Efficiency
During the 20th century, academic financial economists extensively accepted the efficient market
hypothesis. Almost everyone was alleged that stock markets and securities market are highly efficient
in response to any new information in the market. It was argued that when information regarding
factors influencing market arises, the information spread like wild fire in the market and the prices of
stocks adjust accordingly without any delay. This means that neither the fundamental analysis related
to analysis of financial information of the company such as earnings, capital stock etc nor the
technical analysis related to the analysis of historical performance of the stocks of the company

Most of the investors try to select the securities which are mis priced undervalued due to the reason
that in future price of these securities will increase and they are able to outperform the market. The
portfolio managers identify the securities which are able to outperform the market and they use variety
of different techniques to predict the performance of the securities and stock. The financial analysis
gives comparative advantage to the investors which results in substantial profits. The efficient market
hypothesis argues that any technique is not capable to generate excess due to dependable predictability
of stock and securities return. The efficient market hypothesis argues that it is very difficult to predict
the future stock return and also the predictions are not consistent. The important and main force
behind the price change is the arrival of new information. It is a presumption that market is efficient if

Christianity And Christianity In Beowulf
Even though Christianity has been around for quite some time, not all Christians really act uniformly.
And so it goes with Christianity with the early Icelandic and Anglo Saxon peoples. Since all of their
literature was written by Christian monks, the stories and sagas have Christian spins on them.
Beowulf, one of the major texts to be referenced here, was written down after the Anglo Saxon
conversion to Christianity and has many Christian quips written in it, even though the story was
transmitted orally long before the conversion. It contains no information on what the Anglo Saxons
were like pre conversion and whether or not Christianity actually changed the ways their society
operated. Njal s Saga, on the other hand, has the narrative of Iceland s conversion embedded within it.
This lends for a better examination of the people before and after the incident. Even with the evidence
of the conversion of the country, though, it can seem hard to determine how Christianity changed the
then current Icelandic culture. To shape the idea of how biblical Christianity works, Ephesians 4:22 24
gives a good idea of how somebody should behave post conversion. It says, You were taught, with
regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful
desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like
God in true righteousness and holiness (NIV). Once a person or country in the case of

Juvenile Delinquency Is Not Acceptable
Juvenile delinquency is when minors commit criminal acts or offenses that are against the law and in
which adult prosecution is not acceptable. It is interesting to note that this was not always the case.
Before juvenile delinquency was established, juveniles were trialed and treated as adults. There was
no such thing as a juvenile court, juvenile correctional facilities, or juvenile support groups, when the
juvenile deviated. Later, many believed that when juveniles deviated that it meant that they needed
guidance and support to help them. This change was made mainly because the value of children
increased due to the fact that children were beginning to live longer and were healthier. Throughout
the semester it has been intriguing to learn more about this topic and learn different theories related to
it, as well as delinquency triggers. There are four theories that relate to juvenile delinquency. Strain
Theory is when the juvenile experiences strain, or stress, which as a result causes them to commit
delinquent acts. Strain can be caused by the juvenile failing to achieve goals, and/or the loss of
positive stimuli or the presentation of negative stimuli. Social Learning Theory is when juveniles learn
to engage in delinquent acts by being reinforced, positively or negatively, in some way. Control
Theory is when the juvenile varies with the levels of control, which causes them to commit delinquent
acts. Labeling Theory is when juveniles are labeled as bad or delinquent ,

War Era, we engaged in some pre Rev War work, with the events leading up to the Revolutionary War,
then went into Historical Fiction book clubs, watched and discussed the Sons of Liberty and through
all of this I have come to believe that... One of the ways I have seen Retaliation throughout my notes
is in Sons of Liberty . For example, After the Boston Tea Party, the British retaliated by killing
multiple colonists in the village, and whipping Sam Adams. Next, After the colonists stole the gun
powder from the British, The british than declared war and killed multiple americans. My third piece
of evidence is, In Sons of Liberty, when Thomas Gage s wife had an affair with Dr. ... Show more

Looking through history, I ve noticed that riots and protests now, are close to the riots and protests
back in the late 1700 s. For example, Now there are women s rights protests and african american
protests vs back then, when people were fighting for freedom. In the article The Taxing King King
George had this idea to teach the colonists a lesson. They levied taxes, and didn t listen to the colonists
complaints. The colonists got angry and retaliated with a war called The War of Independence.
Although this was different to the Revolutionary War, it was one of the many events leading up to it. I
am starting to think my book My Brother Sam is Dead , relates to Beth s book Glory Field because In
my book Mr. Meeker, Sam s dad, get shipped off on a boat to England after he gets kidnapped and
gets killed, I see this as a connection because, in Beth s book Mohammed was a slave, he also got
shipped on a different boat to America. I ve realized that both characters were taken from their

Who Is Leopold A Conservationist
Leopold starts by comparing conservationists to hunters by saying conservationists use laws and other
methods to make animals to stay put and take advantage of them, much similar to hunters.
Conservationists include those who use the land for recreational use. They are there to make money
and use the animals as properties and ways to make money. Another comparison brought up by
Leopold is between the duck hunter and the operatic singer. They are both used as a form of
entertainment and thus, self pleasure. Although both the conservationists, those who take advantage of
animals by watching or taking pictures, and hunters are similar in different ways, they disagree on
laws concerning their actions. They both use the animals for recreation and

Strategies For An Employee From A Tax Perspective
ISOs are often preferred by startups as it s supposed to be better for an employee from a tax
perspective. This assumes that (1) AMT won t be triggered and (2) you ll get low long term capital
gains rate by holding the stock for the appropriate holding periods. However, often you either run
afoul of the AMT trap, or don t hold the stock long enough with the complicated 1 year + 2 year
requirement, or the spread at exercise is zero or small, so the difference wouldn t matter anyway.
NSOs do have a slightly higher tax because of the employment taxes. Overall, it s not clear the ISO is
that much better for employees, so many people argue for NSOs instead. Even more confusingly, ISOs
can make it harder to meet the long term capital gains holding period. Many people expect early
exercise together with an 83(b) election will help them hold the stock longer, to qualify for long term
capital gains. While this is true for NSOs, there is a murky part of the rules on ISOs that implies that
even with an 83(b) election, the capital gain holding period does not begin until the shares actually
vest. So, if you want to immediately exercise an option and file an Section 83(b) election, and you
might have liquidity soon, it s better if you can have it be an NSO.
Taxes on RSUs
If you are awarded RSUs, each unit represents one share of stock that you will be given when the units
vest. When you receive your shares you are taxed on their value at that time. If you are an

David Sedaris Laugh Kokaburra
Laugh Kookaburra . Even the name sounds intriguing. An essay of only about 3300 words, and yet
more powerful and thoughtful then some work 100 times as long. David Sedaris, the author and a
professional writer to boot, submitted this story as an essay to the popular magazine and blog, The
New Yorker, in August of 2009. He has written a number or essays, plays, and the like, and has a
recognizable style in similar pieces of his work. Laugh Kookaburra is a complex tale that is written in
this unique style; which is that of a simple tale that draws the reader in. It starts off in the current day,
at a family gathering, which the events of remind the author of the events that took place.
At this gathering, Sedaris and his father argue about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He essentially writes this essay to tell another story. He wants to talk about his family, but in order to
fully explain the depth of the meaning of his of what he has written, he has to frame it in such a way to
give the reader a sense of awe surrounding the discovery of this story. The best way to describe it is to
liken it to a joke. He spends most of the time on the build up , and on the delivery . However, he winds
it all up with the punch line which culminates in the understanding of the build up by the reader.
Sedaris, from my limited reading and understanding, tends to follow this style in many of his essays.
He spends most of his time on the backstory, building his world, and in doing so describing his
character as a writer and as a person. This gets the reader used to his style quickly, they feel like they
understand and are a part of the story. However, when he delivers his punch line or his meaning right
at the end, which is usually only a few sentences or a paragraph or two, he sucker punch s the reader.
He hits the reader right in the stomach, which, when the stars clear from their eyes, lets them see the
full picture, or the point of his essay. In this instance, the story about Australia is what the reader
believes to be important, with really the only important part being the burner analogy. Sedaris then
throws the child story at you, with the direct quote I didn t have the analogy of the stovetop back then,

The Accidental Tourist By Anne Tyler
The Accidental Tourist Recognized with a National Book Critics Circle Award in 1985, Anne Tyler s
The Accidental Tourist explores the complex relationships within families and their long term effects
on the quality of our lives. The Accidental Tourist introduces us to Macon Leary, a kernel of a man
that nothing real penetrates until he meets Muriel Pritchett, with whom he opens up and shares his
pain over the death of his son (Tyler 180). Their relationship transforms Leary s emotions and brings
him out of his cocoon of sadness and isolation. Macon comes to see that Muriel has dealt with a great
deal of pain in her life, helping him realize that he is not unique in his struggle to cope with his own
loss. Considered by many critics to be her best work at its publishing, as in many of Tyler s other
novels, The Accidental Tourist explores the idea that our family, the same people who should bring us
happiness, are just as likely to grieve us deeply, drive us mad (Schaeffer). Consistent with her previous
novels are the characters messy, quirky, and so predictable we want to shake them (Schaeffer).
Demonstrating the skill that later earned her a Pulitzer Prize for Breathing Lessons, Tyler develops the
idea that the highest stakes in life, are in the family where through struggle and compromise and daily
courage, we learn to persist and endure (Schaeffer). Above all, The Accidental Tourist is a story about
how the loss of a loved one at an early age, and

What Is Significant About Developments in Post-Cold War Ir...
What is significant about developments in Post Cold War IR theory?
This essay will explore the significance of developments in post Cold War International Relations
theory. It wasn t surprising that the collapse of the Soviet bloc, arguably the third greatest cataclysm of
the Twentieth Century and an event which drew a line under the Two World Wars, would pose some
serious theoretical questions for International Relations. In order to do this the essay will be broken
down into two sections. The first will analyse globalisation and the effect of it on Realism. The second
the will analyse culture and its effect on Liberalism. As a result this will demonstrate, theoretically,
that issues in post Cold War international relations can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to globalisation,
is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain access to knowledge
and services from around the world in a way that would have been unimaginable previously. The
internet and technologies such as mobile telephony allow developing countries to leapfrog steps in
their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone system in the Philippines, for example,
is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet access. The spread of globalisation on this
scale would have been unthinkable if the Soviet bloc hadn t collapsed opening up new markets and
cultures.
Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of the
League of Nations, is concerned with the individuals within the state. In other words the state is the
‘servant to the people s thoughts. Francis Fukuyama in his book The End of History and the Last
Man says that he could see no major competing ideology to the ‘liberal idea after the Cold War but
only localised resistance. (Fukuyama 1992: 45 46). During the Cold War cultural differences had to
take a backseat to the global geopolitical struggle between the US and USSR. Both the US and USSR
offered their way of living, either democratically or totalitarian, to the rest of the worlds states. When
the Cold War ended the way at which the liberal politics of the West were

(3) Out of 19,165 individuals surveyed in a cross sectional, population based, multinational study conducted by Irwin and colleagues, 64.3% reported at least one urinary symptom, with nocturia being the most prevalent (men, 48.6%; women, 54.5%). • 3. Comparing Fortune In Hamlet And The Prince Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about a prince who needs to get revenge for the murder of his father. The Prince, written by Niccolò Machiavelli, is a treatise on how to take and hold on to political power. Both Hamlet and The Prince contain the concept of fortune as a common theme throughout each work. Fortune is talked about in similar ways in both, including how fortune is a woman, how much control fortune has over people, and how fortune is like water. Fortune is associated with the goddess Fortuna from Roman mythology in both Hamlet and The Prince. Fortuna is the Roman goddess of luck, fate, and fortune. Fortuna is referred to in a sexual manner by both Shakespeare and Machiavelli. In Hamlet she is referred to as a strumpet: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Shakespeare 121) Again, Fortune is called a strumpet, as First Player pleads with all the other gods to destroy her wheel, sending the hub of the wheel rolling down from heaven into hell. Fortune is also personified in The Prince: My opinion on the matter is this: it s better to be impulsive than cautious; fortune is female and if you want to stay on top of her you have to slap and thrust. (Machiavelli 136 137) Machiavelli is using sex as a metaphor to say that to subdue Fortune, one must be impulsive and assert their dominance over her. Hamlet believes he leaves too much up to fortune because he thinks too much without taking enough action. In his to be or not to be soliloquy, he reflects on how he overthinks things, saying conscience does make cowards of us all . Hamlet wishes he wasn t like this and admires people like Horatio and Fortinbras for taking action and not letting fortune control them. Hamlet praises Horatio for the way he deals with fortune: A man that fortune s buffets and rewards Hast ta en with equal thanks: and blessed are those Whose blood and judgment are so well commingled That they are not a pipe for Fortune s finger To sound what stop she please. Epilogue To Romeo And Juliet Now that I am five my chief will tell me how the sky lit up, Long Ago, before you and I were born, the sky chief sent his son down to earth, where there was no light at night... Now since all of you are all five I have to tell you the story my chief told me forty years ago when I was your age. Now lets begin, Long ago, before you and I were born, the sky chief ordered his son down to earth, where there was no light at night. The sky chief s son was named Lusio which means light. Lusio s job was to find something that would light the sky up. The great fireball in the sky only lit up the sky for half of the day. On her way down she asked the birds flying her down if they have seen anything lighting up but they said that they are asleep when everything glows at night. Learning from her brothers mistakes she asked a rabbit that was hopping around, Do you know where to find something that is capable of lighting up the night sky? The rabbit replied, You should try to find an owl. They are awake at night and can tell you what lights up. Domestic Surveillance didn t seem important in the eye of the American government. After the September attacks (9/11) congress started to treat Domestic Surveillance as a number one priority. After September 11th Congress passed a law to use military force for those responsible for the attacks in New York, NY. The go ahead with using military force did not give the President to use surveillance without a warrant. Congress started to pass legislation against counterterrorism efforts. The most controversial measures, including the 2001 USA Patriot Act that gave the US federal government the ability to collect and analyze private information that has identified itself with the United States of America. With new found ways of viewing American citizens personal information the federal government had to learn how not to get caught. • 6. Carl Rogers Person Centered Theory The person centered theory was created by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. At the time when this approach began it was considered radically different than those that were available. All theories were predominately therapist centered, symptom focused, or orientated to making personality changes. Rogers approach let the clients take charge and lead their direction of change. Rogers was the first to use the word client to refer to an individual seeking psychotherapy. Implicit in his theory is the basic premise that people are essentially good. The person centered theory views an individual from a different perspective than other theories in that what is important is an individual s perception of their reality rather than the event itself. This is so central to his theory that it is often referred to as self theory. In order for a healthy self to emerge, people need genuine and positive regard. However, if in childhood an individual receives conditional acceptance, it teaches them to feel valued only when they conform to others wishes (GCU, 2014; Murdock, 2013). In using the person centered theory approach there are considerations to apply such as goals and interventions, theory duration, counselor s role, client s role, appropriate populations, social and cultural needs, and risks.. Goals and Interventions The goals of the person centered theory include focusing on the client as a person, not their problems. Clients are assisted in learning how to cope with the ... In addition, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R, Kan.) condemned gangsta rap artists for producing music extolling the pleasures of raping, torturing and mutilating women and songs about killing policemen and rejecting law. • 8. The East India Company The East India Company was a British joint stock company establish on the 31st of December, 1600 under the original name The Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies. Over the next hundreds of years the Company set a sail attempting to find riches in trade on their journeys to these new lands. They found value in crops such as indigo, salt, cotton, silk, opium and other cash crops that the barren land of Europe lacked. This would be the company that would set sail to the land of India and dominate its soil from the middle of 1700 s to the middle of the 1800 s. In a little over fifty years the East India Company was transformed from a body of traders controlling a scattered group of commercial settlements round the coasts of India into the rulers of provinces with a population popularly supposed in Britain to contain fifty or sixty million inhabitants. The Company was able to find its growth and power from wealthy merchants and aristocrats that would invest their money into the Company after seeing how successful they were becoming. A healthy amount of these wealthy investors were part of the British Parliament. This intertwined government views and beliefs with the business side of views and beliefs. The 2nd Vatican Council Essay The 2nd Vatican Council Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today. Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and unable to relate to contemporary man. That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined. Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary man. That concern would soon be dispelled. In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However, despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the council. On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber stamp council. The lipid molecules are most well known as forming basic structures of cell membranes and as energy storage molecules as well. There are various types of lipids, three main types include: true fats (triglycerides), phospholipids, and steroids. Lipids are also described as fatty acids. Fatty acids are merely carboxylic acids with long hydrocarbon chains. The fatty acid structure is one of the most fundamental categories of biological lipids, and is commonly used as a building block of more structurally complex lipids. Fats that include these molecules are unsaturated fats. Other fatty acids have no double bonds. Fats that include these fatty acids are saturated fats. In most human health situations, the consumption of unsaturated fats is preferred to the consumption of saturated fats. Like carbohydrates, lipids can also be categorized into simple and complex. However, as time progress people viewed marriage as a way to express one s feeling towards each other. Fewer people relied upon marriage as a way of boosting their status. Knowing that the rain will make Jane severely sick, she disregards it and proceeds with her scheme. From this, it shows Mrs. Bennet as a selfish person. She hardly ever considers her daughter s well being unless it benefits her financially. Some argue that Mr. Bennet s eventual death caused Mrs. Bennet to risk Jane s health. It makes sense because if Mr. Bennet dies, then Mrs. Bennet loses her comfortable lifestyle. On the other hand, most people that read this novel and delve deep into Mrs. Bennet s character understand that her actions remain inexcusable. • 18. Classical Music Comparison What is classical? Serious or conventional music following long established principles rather than a folk, jazz, or popular tradition. This is the universally accepted definition of what classical music is. But what is classical music defined as in my opinion? Well, classical music for myself falls within the serious category, same as the first definition. A serious composition of music without vocals. Classicl was also a time period, and that is what I will focus primarily on for the subject and question at hand, what is classical? Classical music has had different periods which includes romantic (1804 1910), but classical itself as a period (1750 1820) was a clear un textured form of music in comparison to the others. • 19. The Ongoing Energy Debate The Ongoing Energy Debate As we all know, the energy debate has been ongoing for decades. There is a laundry list of opinions concerning energy use and production. When it comes to oil we are all too aware of the price and demand for what has proven to be the most valued resource on the planet. Advocates of alternate energies insist that the end of oil is nearer than most of us may think, while proponents of petroleum assure us that due to technological advancements there are still large untapped reserves which promise to see us through the next century despite our increasing demand for this black gold. One proponent of alternate energies, James Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency outlines the need for an alternative fuel source, but also explains the pit falls of alternate energy sources. The reason oil is such a valued and highly used commodity is because of its efficiency and wide range of uses compared to other energy sources. The truth is that no matter what proponents of alternate energies say, there is no good substitute at this time for oil which is largely the reason we re still using it. Kunstler explains the pitfalls of hydrogen energy, coal and solar. The hydrogen used in fuel cells is largely derived from natural gas resources, coal is less versatile and solar energy is expensive to produce. Considering the cost of oil at the consumer level it seems common sense that if there was a cheaper, comparably efficient substitute we would be jumping at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this film such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack. Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience. Interestingly, as the film progresses and Lesterʼs relationships evolve, the camera angles also evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera angles give Lester a triumphant image. Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by film directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes (1999) states when referring to Lesterʼs work setting. As Lesterʼs quest for escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this film through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with Lesterʼs sexual fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is first introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend Janeʼs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his first tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion and love. • 21. Wind Chill Wind chill is the perceived decrease in air temperature felt by the body on exposed sin due to the flow of cold air. Wind chill temperatures are always lower than air temperature. The human body loses heat through convection, evaporation, conduction and radiation. The rate of heat loss by a surface through convection depends on the wind speed above that surface. As a surface heats the air around it, an insulating boundary layer of warm air forms agains the surface. Moving air disrupts the boundary layer, allowing for new, cooler air to replace the warm air against the surface. The faster the wind speed, the more readily the surface cools. Remember, the basic concept behind wind chill is that stronger winds will cause exposed skin to cool more quickly. The faster skin cools, the faster frostbite can set it. As wind chills drop south of 50 or so, the onset of frostbite can take as little as five minutes, so it s worth keeping an eye on the wind chill even if the notion of your skin feeling like a certain temperature may be a bit misleading. The growth of the railroads, telegraph and later telephone lines stretching across the country created new opportunities for entrepreneurs and the people looking for work; and gave cheaper goods to consumers. The Gilded Age was a term used in the 1920s and 1930s derived from Mark Twain s novel of the same name, which mocked an era of serious social problems. Because with growth in the economy comes the growth in income inequality. But this doesn t necessarily mean that there is a huge inequality in the concept of consumption in our society. Over time, the consumption among the less fortunate has become similar to that of the wealthier in some ways. There are now new technologies and knock off fashions that spread down the price scale too fast to distinguish the rich from the aspiring for long. There are also more available in regard to leisure activities for both the poor and the wealthy that are quite similar that makes the inequality a lot narrower. For example, if you would like to watch a movie, the wealthy can go to an expensive movie theater and spend lots of money on it but the poor can also catch the same movie in a different theater for literally nothing in comparison and get the same outcome. So the biggest difference in this situation is the experience of enjoying this movie, but they both accomplish what they intend to do. In the 19th century, more and more people began crowding including immigrants seeking a better life than the one they left behind. In New York City, buildings that had once been single family dwellings were increasingly divided into multiple living spaces (known as tenements) to accommodate this growing population. These buildings were most often cramped from the number of people who lived there, poorly lit and and lacked indoor plumbing and proper ventilation. Jacob August Riis was a Danish American social reformer, muckraking journalist and social documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help the impoverished in New York City. While living in New York, Riis experienced poverty and so he attempted to reduce the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to the middle and upper classes. The Impact Of The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was a period in the 18th century in Europe where and emphasis of mass production using machinery were at a peak due to large numbers of factories and workers. The Industrial Revolution allowed for innovation to spread rapidly throughout the 18th century in Britain then throughout the rest of the world. Inventions such as the sewing machine, cotton gin, as well as the telephone were invented during this time period. Modern society was then able to build upon the strides made during this time to create the urban metropolises we see today. Without a period of development for technology, the modern world would possible be in a farm based system where rural agriculture is prominent as it was prior to machinery. But with speculation there is no true way to find out what the impact of a world without the Industrial Revolution would look like. Despite goods being made easily and quickly in factories, there were many negatives brought along with this that tainted the image of the Industrial Revolution. As stated in document 2 the condition of these factories were poor. Employees had to work in cluttered, unsanitary conditions for long hours. Despite working for around 15+ hours per day, workers were paid inadequately. This caused parents to have their children work in these unsanitary factories and mines to help support the family. Pros And Cons Of Rf-Deforestation Ra is equal to the total revenues obtained from the harvest (paya) minus the costs on labour (wla), capital (qka), and transportation (vad) Note that the distance is included in the transportation costs. Transportation costs may be too high at this point. Thus, to reach markets is too costly and deforestation stops. The relation Rf deforestation is exactly the opposite of the relation Ra deforestation: the higher the Rf, the lower the deforestation. Rents coming from forest activities vary with respect to the aggregation level. At the local level, forest rents include the same variables agricultural rents do. However, at bigger aggregation levels, such as regional/national, or global, other forest ES are included. This creates government transparency and allows its citizens to hold their leaders accountable for their actions. In order to create this transparency in today s society, a technical system must be set in place. This technical system needs to contain government documents which are easily accessible to the public. But, not all documents should be housed in this accessible database. Some government knowledge should be kept secret and inaccessible, because it could fall into the wrong hands. Documents containing economic information, such as budgets and spending should be readily available on a database for the public to access. Specifically, when it comes to the story, Modest Proposal , the story discusses the issue of the way that rich people handle things, and the issue of poverty. Also, the author talked about how the classification of eating children can benefit others. Furthermore, when discussing Why I Want A Wife , the daily activities that are discussed about the roles that women are seemingly expected to perform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel like the reason the story fits into the category of a satirical device, because although, at first it seems like a disturbing story discussing the thought process of eating children, and the thought of it being a good thing the furthermore, you get into the story it s irony on the issue shields light on the issues of poverty and also the irony that is spoken of is the author s way to get the readers, like mine attention to furthermore discuss the issue at hand, seemingly making this story s irony to me the most effective out of logical fallacies, satirical and rhetorical devices, because of the ... • 38. Christianity And Christianity In Beowulf Even though Christianity has been around for quite some time, not all Christians really act uniformly. And so it goes with Christianity with the early Icelandic and Anglo Saxon peoples. Since all of their literature was written by Christian monks, the stories and sagas have Christian spins on them. Beowulf, one of the major texts to be referenced here, was written down after the Anglo Saxon conversion to Christianity and has many Christian quips written in it, even though the story was transmitted orally long before the conversion. It contains no information on what the Anglo Saxons were like pre conversion and whether or not Christianity actually changed the ways their society operated. Njal s Saga, on the other hand, has the narrative of Iceland s conversion embedded within it. This lends for a better examination of the people before and after the incident. Even with the evidence of the conversion of the country, though, it can seem hard to determine how Christianity changed the then current Icelandic culture. To shape the idea of how biblical Christianity works, Ephesians 4:22 24 gives a good idea of how somebody should behave post conversion. It says, You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (NIV). • 39. Juvenile Delinquency Is Not Acceptable Juvenile delinquency is when minors commit criminal acts or offenses that are against the law and in which adult prosecution is not acceptable. It is interesting to note that this was not always the case. Before juvenile delinquency was established, juveniles were trialed and treated as adults. There was no such thing as a juvenile court, juvenile correctional facilities, or juvenile support groups, when the juvenile deviated. Later, many believed that when juveniles deviated that it meant that they needed guidance and support to help them. This change was made mainly because the value of children increased due to the fact that children were beginning to live longer and were healthier. Throughout the semester it has been intriguing to learn more about this topic and learn different theories related to it, as well as delinquency triggers. There are four theories that relate to juvenile delinquency. Strain Theory is when the juvenile experiences strain, or stress, which as a result causes them to commit delinquent acts. Strain can be caused by the juvenile failing to achieve goals, and/or the loss of positive stimuli or the presentation of negative stimuli. Social Learning Theory is when juveniles learn to engage in delinquent acts by being reinforced, positively or negatively, in some way. Control Theory is when the juvenile varies with the levels of control, which causes them to commit delinquent acts. Labeling Theory is when juveniles are labeled as bad or delinquent , ... They want to adapt to advance in technology so that the best work would always be produced to make their pastime experience more significant than the others. They also want to expand more internationally. I believe that the stability of the family brand industry is not just to be passion based, but to combine other things like media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer products, and interactive media (pg.276). This acknowledges Walt Disney to become more different. This is not only a children named brand, it s for the entire family including adults because they own ESPN. In our study of the Revolutionary War Era, we engaged in some pre Rev War work, with the events leading up to the Revolutionary War, then went into Historical Fiction book clubs, watched and discussed the Sons of Liberty and through all of this I have come to believe that... One of the ways I have seen Retaliation throughout my notes is in Sons of Liberty . For example, After the Boston Tea Party, the British retaliated by killing multiple colonists in the village, and whipping Sam Adams. The colonists got angry and retaliated with a war called The War of Independence. Although this was different to the Revolutionary War, it was one of the many events leading up to it. Who Is Leopold A Conservationist Leopold starts by comparing conservationists to hunters by saying conservationists use laws and other methods to make animals to stay put and take advantage of them, much similar to hunters. Conservationists include those who use the land for recreational use. They are there to make money and use the animals as properties and ways to make money. Another comparison brought up by Leopold is between the duck hunter and the operatic singer. They are both used as a form of entertainment and thus, self pleasure. Although both the conservationists, those who take advantage of animals by watching or taking pictures, and hunters are similar in different ways, they disagree on laws concerning their actions. • 43. Strategies For An Employee From A Tax Perspective ISOs are often preferred by startups as it s supposed to be better for an employee from a tax perspective. This assumes that (1) AMT won t be triggered and (2) you ll get low long term capital gains rate by holding the stock for the appropriate holding periods. However, often you either run afoul of the AMT trap, or don t hold the stock long enough with the complicated 1 year + 2 year requirement, or the spread at exercise is zero or small, so the difference wouldn t matter anyway. NSOs do have a slightly higher tax because of the employment taxes. Overall, it s not clear the ISO is that much better for employees, so many people argue for NSOs instead. Even more confusingly, ISOs can make it harder to meet the long term capital gains holding period. Many people expect early exercise together with an 83(b) election will help them hold the stock longer, to qualify for long term capital gains. While this is true for NSOs, there is a murky part of the rules on ISOs that implies that even with an 83(b) election, the capital gain holding period does not begin until the shares actually vest. So, if you want to immediately exercise an option and file an Section 83(b) election, and you might have liquidity soon, it s better if you can have it be an NSO. Taxes on RSUs If you are awarded RSUs, each unit represents one share of stock that you will be given when the units vest. When you receive your shares you are taxed on their value at that time. David Sedaris, the author and a professional writer to boot, submitted this story as an essay to the popular magazine and blog, The New Yorker, in August of 2009. He has written a number or essays, plays, and the like, and has a recognizable style in similar pieces of his work. Laugh Kookaburra is a complex tale that is written in this unique style; which is that of a simple tale that draws the reader in. It starts off in the current day, at a family gathering, which the events of remind the author of the events that took place. At this gathering, Sedaris and his father argue about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He essentially writes this essay to tell another story. He wants to talk about his family, but in order to fully explain the depth of the meaning of his of what he has written, he has to frame it in such a way to give the reader a sense of awe surrounding the discovery of this story. The best way to describe it is to liken it to a joke. He spends most of the time on the build up , and on the delivery . However, he winds it all up with the punch line which culminates in the understanding of the build up by the reader. Sedaris, from my limited reading and understanding, tends to follow this style in many of his essays. He spends most of his time on the backstory, building his world, and in doing so describing his character as a writer and as a person. This gets the reader used to his style quickly, they feel like they understand and are a part of the story. However, when he delivers his punch line or his meaning right at the end, which is usually only a few sentences or a paragraph or two, he sucker punch s the reader. He hits the reader right in the stomach, which, when the stars clear from their eyes, lets them see the full picture, or the point of his essay. In this instance, the story about Australia is what the reader believes to be important, with really the only important part being the burner analogy. • 45. The Accidental Tourist By Anne Tyler The Accidental Tourist Recognized with a National Book Critics Circle Award in 1985, Anne Tyler s The Accidental Tourist explores the complex relationships within families and their long term effects on the quality of our lives. The Accidental Tourist introduces us to Macon Leary, a kernel of a man that nothing real penetrates until he meets Muriel Pritchett, with whom he opens up and shares his pain over the death of his son (Tyler 180). Their relationship transforms Leary s emotions and brings him out of his cocoon of sadness and isolation. Macon comes to see that Muriel has dealt with a great deal of pain in her life, helping him realize that he is not unique in his struggle to cope with his own loss. Considered by many critics to be her best work at its publishing, as in many of Tyler s other novels, The Accidental Tourist explores the idea that our family, the same people who should bring us happiness, are just as likely to grieve us deeply, drive us mad (Schaeffer). Consistent with her previous novels are the characters messy, quirky, and so predictable we want to shake them (Schaeffer). Demonstrating the skill that later earned her a Pulitzer Prize for Breathing Lessons, Tyler develops the idea that the highest stakes in life, are in the family where through struggle and compromise and daily courage, we learn to persist and endure (Schaeffer). This essay will explore the significance of developments in post Cold War International Relations theory. It wasn t surprising that the collapse of the Soviet bloc, arguably the third greatest cataclysm of the Twentieth Century and an event which drew a line under the Two World Wars, would pose some serious theoretical questions for International Relations. In order to do this the essay will be broken down into two sections. The first will analyse globalisation and the effect of it on Realism. The second the will analyse culture and its effect on Liberalism. As a result this will demonstrate, theoretically, that issues in post Cold War international relations can be ... Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to globalisation, is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain access to knowledge and services from around the world in a way that would have been unimaginable previously. The internet and technologies such as mobile telephony allow developing countries to leapfrog steps in their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone system in the Philippines, for example, is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet access. The spread of globalisation on this scale would have been unthinkable if the Soviet bloc hadn t collapsed opening up new markets and cultures. Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of the League of Nations, is concerned with the individuals within the state. In other words the state is the ‘servant to the people s thoughts.
