Essay on The Milgram Experiment
The Milgram Experiment
(Hart) Stanley Milgram s experiment in the way people respond to obedience is one of the most
important experiments ever administered. The goal of Milgram s experiment was to find the desire of
the participants to shock a learner in a controlled situation. When the volunteer would be ordered to
shock the wrong answers of the victims, Milgram was truly judging and studying how people respond
to authority. Milgram discovered something both troubling and awe inspiring about the human race.
Since they were first published in 1963, MIlgram s sensational findings have been offered as an
explanation for mass genocide during the Holocaust and events such as the My Lai Massacre in
Vietnam and the torture of prisoners in Abu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fried convinced him to consider looking into the field of Psychology. (Blass 1 13)
Encyclopedia.com states that Milgram went on to Harvard University where he attained a PhD in
Psychology and was eventually asked to consider a job at Yale University from 1961 until 1962,
where he studied and started his Psychology experiments. In 1961, he married Alexandra (Sasha)
Menkin, and they went on to have two children, Michele and Marc. After working at Yale for about a
year, Milgram remembered that Harvard was an Academic Eden , and wanted to return there and
continue his psychological research. In 1963, he returned to Harvard and began his now famous
experiments. Stanley Milgram died on December 20th 1984 at the height of his career.
(Encyclopedia.com Milgram, Stanley Biography) (Carollo)The Milgram Experiment consisted of 3
participants: the teacher, the learner and the experimenter. The learner, unbeknownst to the teacher,
was always an associate of Milgram. Participants were paired with Milgram s associate and a lottery
of sorts was used to determine who would be the teacher and learner. According to Saul McLeod, The
draw was fixed so that the participant was always the teacher, and the learner was Milgram s associate
(pretending to be a real participant. (McLeod) Milgram found his participants through various
advertisements. He only advertised for men 20 to 50 years old, as such, women were completely

Evaluation Of An Action Research Project
Evaluation of an Action Research Project
In action research, an individual or a group of colleagues applies scientific methods to real life
problems or issues occurring within a work or educational environment (Conscious Educating,
2009a). According to Dr. Waddell, action research seeks to accomplish two goals, which are to
stimulate learning and make a difference (Waddell, 2007). Teachers, researchers, and administrators
all evaluate, investigate, and analyze problems or concepts in hopes of improving them and thereby
benefiting students, the classroom environment, and their own teaching practices.

According to Ary et al. (2015), Action research allows educators to focus on an issue that directly
relates to their learning environment (p. 549).
Step 2, Plan, involves taking action gathering data or information by observing or monitoring the
effects. Ms. Senter set out to find information regarding a fantasy unit. Through her research, she was
able to locate ready made units on science fiction but not on fantasy. The benefit of action research is
that it encourages collaboration and the development of learning communities (Ary et al., 2015, p.
550). Ms. Senter collaborated with fellow English teachers, then realized that she still needs more
resources and support. Accordingly, she drew on the local library for extra support, deepening her
knowledge and gaining materials to help her design her own nine week instructional unit on fantasy to
add to her eleventh grade literature curriculum.
Step 3, Act, sees the practitioner implementing a plan of action. Ms. Senter has completed her unit on
fantasy and has developed her unit based on four major themes: (1) fantasy as a unique literary form
that emphasizes imagination and magic, with stories often set in an imaginary place; (2) fantasy s use
of elements also found in other novels (character, setting, plot, theme); (3) fantasy stories multiple
levels of meaning; and (4) fantasy s use of the usual pattern of narrative progression (background,
build up, climax, resolution). Ms. Senter selected

Virtual Team Advantages And Disadvantages
VIRTUAL ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT
Many scholars have agreed with the assertions that teams are an essential part of any organization.
The concept of virtual teams had emerged during the 1990 s and since then the concept has greatly
evolved. Today, companies create teams of individuals from different diverse backgrounds to meet the
wants of their customers. As today s business environments are dynamic and competitive,
collaboration has become an important aspect to companies, as it helps businesses to adapt and
succeed. Due to the fast paced growth of new technologies, many companies have started the use of
virtual teams. Virtual teams are a benefit to companies, however their usefulness, are depended to the
extent of the members capabilities in the team. This essay would go through the several benefits and
drawbacks of using a virtual team. This essay would also cover different aspects and criteria required
for the selection of members in a virtual team.
The advantages and disadvantages of using a virtual team
There are several key difference between a traditional team and a virtual team. In a traditional team,
communication is continuous, members coordinate, accommodate and work together. In an virtual
team, the communication between team members is asynchronous, members work in different
locations and require less monitoring. The government has considered the option of using a virtual
team to review the great barrier reef program. Virtual teams provides several benefits such as
flexibility, High responsiveness and cost reduction.
Using a virtual team for this project would eliminate several physical team meetings. The time taken
to travel to these meetings could be used in other productive activities and the cost incurred in
traveling could be saved up. As members would have more time, they would also have a better work
life balance.
Virtual teams removes the geographical barriers and improve diversity as Individuals from different
countries and backgrounds can be included in the virtual team. People with disabilities and parents
with children could also be included in the team. As the team can include members beyond the
geographical borders of the country, members from

Samsung Electronics 1. Introduction: With the introduction of new Chinese competitors in the DRAM
market it is necessary for Samung to access their strategy for the future. Looking at past trends in the
DRAM market, current market situation, and projections for the Flash market, the best option for
Samsung is to focus their efforts on growing the Flash technology, while maintaining their DRAM
output. This is the best course of action because Samsung s customer loyalty will carry their market

model, Samsung s competitive advantage and its sustainability considering the current market
situation. 3. Analysis: Considering Porter s model as a framework to analyze the level of competition
within DRAM memory business, the threat of new entrant is high compared to the threat of substitutes
and established rivals in horizontal competition. If we look at rivalry within the DRAM industry
between established players, Samsung has a clear advantage over its competitors. Samsung is the
market leader in DRAM memory business. It has a wide range of products and its products has a
higher brand value. Threat of new entrants is high as Chinese competitors have easier access to large
pool of local engineering talent and have a growing market for these DRAM chips. The government is
also providing all sorts of assistance, like subsidized land, for the initial setup. Samsung has several
options to deter the entry of new Chinese competitors. One option Samsung have is to continue to
explore and increase market shares of flash memory markets which is a new and growing market.
Samsung can also take advantage by lowering the price of DRAM chips. This would force a price war

Theme Of Weather In Tangerine
Weather you like it or not, weather is very important
In many books authors use outside forces to change a story s plot or the way the characters are headed.
In Tangerine weather and natural disasters affect and change the plot and characters. On page 50, Erik
says, He was just standing there in the end zone. He had one hand on the goalpost, leaning on it, and
kaboom! There was a crack, and a flash, and he went flying through the air. He landed right on his
back, right there on the goal line. In this Erik is explaining to his mom the death of Mike Costello, this
is the first time the reader can really see Eriks true colors and the monster that he is. This sets up many
events that happen in the future, one major event that happens becauses of this is Paul telling on the
Tangerine Middle soccer players for breaking a carnival attraction. Another thing that happens because
of this is Arthur getting his dream to be a starter. When Arthur becomes a starter he also becomes loyal
to Erik and kills someone for him. Not only did weather affect the plot, but huge natural disasters also
affects the plot. On page 81, it says, I looked and saw the entire portable being swallowed up by the

The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay
The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in
virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments.
Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would
demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully
trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party authority
generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which is generally
termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of attestation is based on
five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in the earlier phase are
certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to deliver fresh
information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s future behaviour.
This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after the session is over and
for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful information about the target
by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For useful information about the
target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third principle aims that the target system
must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements to be sent to each

How Did Jeremiah s Corrupt Kings
Jeremiah
Judah s corrupt kings
Jeremiah is commonly known as the weeping prophet because of his deep commitment to and
empathy and compassion for the people of Judah; to whom he was chosen to chastise. He was a
prophet during the reign of five kings including: Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and
Zedekiah. King Josiah had brought about reform throughout Judah and Jerusalem, restoring the people
to proper worship of God. However, when the king died, subsequent kings returned to the corrupt
religious practices of: idolatry, child sacrifice, and worship of Baal and other false gods, which had
been established by previous kings. Although God had withheld his wrath during King Josiahs reign;
it would eventually fall upon Judah because of the sins and evil that the other kings had promoted.
Jeremiah s calling
When God first called Jeremiah, Jeremiah argued that he was too young to speak for God. However,
God reminded him of who had been in control of his life and future all along, Before you were born I
set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5). God charged Jeremiah with the purpose to deliver the ... Show more

when the time was right (Jeremiah 23:5). That righteous Branch was ultimately realized through the
life and death of Jesus Christ. Jeremiah knew pain and heartache. He knew what it was like to feel all
alone in this world, to feel that God had forsaken him. Despite his attempts to change the trajectory of
their lives, he helplessly witnessed the people of Judah refuse to heed his warnings and continue in a
life of sin and moral corruption which led to their ultimate collapse and destruction. Yet, throughout
his ministry God offered Jeremiah nuggets of hope for the

The techniques that are used by all fraternities and sororities are called rushing and hazing. Rushing is
the act of popularizing a given fraternity or sorority to attract new members. As mentioned in the
introduction, the alternate forms of rushing cover a large spectrum, but they all have the same goal: be
the best to attract the best. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and
sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes.
Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a
form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. For
example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are responsible for cleaning up
loose garbage on the field after a practice. As mild as this example might be, hazing can be taken to an
extreme and often has poor outcomes that can severely damage the psyche of an individual. However,
a sense of tradition and continuation continually inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities
and sororities especially. Hazing has become a form a bonding that allow new initiates to become
closer as a brotherhood or sisterhood; these two both being the most important part of fraternities and
sororities. To create an everlasting bond, Greek organizations promote ultimate a familial intimacy
that is unparalleled by other social groups. It is in this strive for brotherhood and sisterhood that
mistakes are made and people begin to

An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants
In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot
rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a
critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards
the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not
all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without
having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly
subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative
success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the
ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in
human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of
placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state.
There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract.
For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be,
but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be
criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets

A Literary Analysis Of Six Feet UnderElegy )
Six Feet Under
(A Literary Analysis on Elegy) Have you ever wondered why people are so rude and disrespectful if
we all eventually end up in the same place. Every grave is the same size. The amount of time that you
will spend in your grave is longer than anything you ll ever have to go through. There is a very smart
little boy that is the author of this poem, he imagines dying and questions what wil be put on his
tombstone. He sits under a tree in the cemetary and thinks about life, all different kinds of people and
the way that they live. He compares city life with small town life. There are many different ways of
living and the author Thomas Gray, puts these words together to explain it. You are your education.
You can only go as far as what you know, which means you can only do as much as you re allowed, if
you don t have knowledge of what you re doing it s because you don t have a strong enough education
about it. If you do well in school that means you can go to college and get a decent job with it. If you
don t do that well in school for whatever reason then you will only go as far as a high school diploma
will take you. There are so many opprotunities that you will have and get if you are smart compared to
someone that is not. There are other reasons as to why people aren t doing well in school too like their
life at home, and everything going on around them. There will always be someone with more money
than you. There will always be someone that seems that they are better than you for whatever reason.
You just have to work as hard as you allow yourself to prove that you are just as equal as them. There
are a ton of people that could ve been amazing but were never given the chance to prove it. There are
more problems in this world with money than anything else. If we didn t have to worry about money
though something else would be just as big of a problem if not more. People that lived in the country
don t have the distraction of money, they don t have the loudness of the city. Country people know
what its like to wake up and go to bed with the sun, people in the city don t ever get to experience
something like that and if they did they wouldn t be able to handle everything that comes with it. City

Globalization Vs Neorealism
Globalization is the intensification of networks of interdependence at multi continental distances. It is
the idea that actions in one area of the world affect different areas in the world. The argument, though,
is whether or not globalization is occurring, if countries are dependent or interdependent. When
turning on the news today, one might see more on whats going on in Russia or North Korea than in
their own backyard. This is an example of Globalization. By examining it through Neorealism, one
can better understand its prevalence. Neorealism primarily centers on the importance of the structure
of the international system when explaining the events in international politics. It states that a state s
position in the international system determines its actions and behavior. The father of Neorealism,
Waltz, stated in the Journal of Politics and Society that, different international relation structure permit
and cause the units of a system to change their behavior and produce different outcomes (Waltz p.4).
If that be the case, then Globalization is at the center of politics. The theory of Neorealism itself
defends the argument that Globalization is occurring; one state s capabilities directly affects another s
actions. To better understand this one must accept that the international system s ordering principle is
anarchy, the idea that there is no higher authority or world government. This creates an almost self
help kind of atmosphere for all of the world

best part but not always healthy, is dessert.
One of the staples of the Italian diet are tomatoes because they are packed with vitamins A C,

Adrenal Glands
Adrenaline is a hormone that the adrenal glands produce. They are produced during times of stress or
excitement. This is a powerful hormone that is a part of the body s flight or fight response. It works by
diluting air passages, contracting blood vessels and stimulating the heart. This helps supply the lungs
with more oxygen and increase blood flow to the muscles. What Are The Adrenal Glands? The adrenal
glands can be found above the kidneys. They are about three inches long. Adrenaline is one of the
hormones that these glands release. Dopamine, adrenaline and norepinephrine are catacholomines

Not only does a person notice an increase in performance and strength, but he or she will also
experience increased respiration and heightened awareness. The person may also feel dizzy,

Creationists Proof Of Evolution
Creationists Proof of an Omnipotent Creator vs. Evolutionists Proof of Evolution
Over the past 160 years, the world views of Creationists and Evolutionists have debated against each
other in a struggle to claim ultimate victory over the other ( Carbon Dating. An Encyclopedia). The
struggle over the same evidence and the same proof that both sides say support their claim is endless.
Overall, it comes to which side is the most reasonable and the most believable. Evolutionists say the
universe, earth and its species have evolved over millions of years. Creationists say that the universe,
the earth and its species were created by an omnipotent Creator (Birx. Darwin, Charles. Encyclopedia
of Time). Creationism at one point in our society was the only solution we had for life around us. It is
centered on God as the creator of everything. However on November 24, 1859 a naturalist by the
name of Charles Darwin Published The Book of Origins, which suggested that man evolved from a

Hindu Weddings Essay
Marriage is the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal
dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family. (Webster s Dictionary.) When a
couple gets married they make a vow in front of their loved ones and their God to be together for the
rest of their lives and abide by each other. In the Hindu religion, which is the third largest religion in
the world, weddings are very sacred, therefore a wedding ceremony takes a lot of time and effort and
it is composed of different rituals and ceremonies. The Hindu marriage, Lagna Vivah is the connection
of two human beings in a nuptial ceremony that takes place according to their religion. It s the
connection of not only the man and woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore you can never marry someone outside your caste even if you are truly in love with someone
outside your caste your marriage will never be favored. If a couple still goes ahead and proceeds with
marrying even though they are from two different castes, there family will basically disown them and
so they will have to deal with a lot of public pressure from their family as well as outsiders. Today the
idea of arranged marriages is overlooked as a forced marriage from other society s point of views.
Hindus arrange their children to meet partners they think are well suitable for them but this does not
mean the son or daughter has to automatically marry this person they have been introduced to. They
have a choice whether to go along with it or not. They are not forced at any point to marry this person.
Years ago parents arranged their children marriages while their children were very young and even
babies. They understood that if the kids grew up together over the years they will learn everything
there was to know about each other and so everything will basically work out to their advantage. Even
though the girl was practically married at a very young age she did not have to live with her husband
until she was matured, until then she will just visit him and his family. The wedding will occur before
puberty, so the girl will

The Negative Effects Of Video Games
Introduction
Most of the research done on video games tends to be done on the possible negative effects associated
with the medium. From aggression and violence to the connection to mood disorders, video games
tend to get a bad reputation. However, there are studies that have been done about the possible
positive effects of games as well. There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative, but they
are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in her article
How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety , was not one of those studies.
News Article Purpose and Study Fit (250)
The news article by Kendall Ashley, How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety ,
claimed exactly as its title suggests. The article went into how different types of games, such as
MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games), puzzle games, and games based on
depression supposedly assisted with anxiety and depression. I went into reading this article favorably,
as someone who both enjoys video games and as someone who is diagnosed with anxiety. However,
after comparing what the study said with what the article presented it as, I found myself disappointed.
Ashley either did not understand what the study said or just named dropped the study to make her
article seem more valid. Most of the time when Ashley claims that Studies show that... she is either
referring to an uncited study, or straight out lying about the content of

Vietnam Political Changes
Vietnam was a long bloody stalemate that lasted from 1955 to 1975. In 1954 Vietnamese Nationalist
gained independence from French colonial rule. Communist formed in the north while a non
communist regime supported by America started in the south. The Vietcong from the north would
fight the south s regime and U.S soldiers for years. March 8, 1965 is when the first American troops
hit the ground. America got involved because we feared the spread of communism also known as the
domino effect. After spilling a lot of blood President Nixon knew people of America were upset. On
November 3, 1969 he announced that he was going to start bringing soldiers home. Vietnamization
was the name of the plan. In my opinion I think the U.S shouldn t have ... Show more content on

People were all dividing during the time of war. People who supported war were known as hawks and
people who disagreed with war were known as doves. Congress brought forth the some new laws in
War Powers Resolution, 1973. At the beginning of section 3 in War Powers Resolution it is stated The
president in every possible instance shall consult with congress before introducing United States
Armed Forces into hostilities. That basically states the congress makes the decision to go to war.
President Richard Nixon was in office when congress brought this forth. President Johnson announced
he wouldn t run for a second term in his Address to the Nation March 31, 1968. He talked about
partisanship and how the country s become so divided. Lyndon knew that once he got involved with
Vietnam he wouldn t have any time for programs at home that would feed and shelter homeless, better
education, etc. If he didn t get involved he would have people complaining on why he s ignoring the
situation. The Vietnam war affected a lot of people in the world. In my opinion we shouldn t have
fought that war unless we were looking for territory. To this day it s the congress who has the power to
call on war. After we left Vietnam completely the Vietcong ended up taking it over

Erikson s Psychosocial Theory And Psychosocial Development
Theories and Theorists
Theories are the building blocks of psychology. Theories whether old or new has allowed us to know
what we know now. There are many theories in the field of psychology or educational psychology that
are important to further understand human behavior. However, this paper will focus on only two
theories which are; Erikson s psychosocial theory and Alfred Adler s Adlerian theory.
Erik Erikson s psychosocial development has always been a great contribution to the field of
psychology by Erik Erikson (Berk, 2007). Erikson suggested that everyone experiences a series of
psychosocial stages instead of psychosexual stages as proposed by Sigmund Freud. Despite the fact
that Erikson disagreed with Sigmund Freud in so many areas in his psychosexual theory, it was
actually Freud s psychosexual theory that helped Erikson formulate his own psychosocial theory and
Erikson was very much influenced by Sigmund and his work (Erikson, 1968). So even if Erikson
disagreed with Freud, Sigmund actually contributed to Erikson s psychosocial theory because if it
wasn t for Freud s shortcomings in his psychosexual theory, Erikson would not have come up with his
own psychosocial theory (Erikson, 1968).
Freud and Erikson hold opposite views on many things. However, they did agree on a few things to
like how they both believed that personality develops in a series of set stages. But dissimilar from
Freud s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory depicts the influence of

Juliet killed herself. When Romeo met Juliet, he was only amazed by the pure beauty of her face and

given his new love for Juliet much thought, and dived headfirst into wanting to be with her. Then, a

Millennialism and Apocalypse Thought in S. T. Coleridge...
missing some works cited Tintern Abbey : Millennialism and Apocalypse Thought in S. T. Coleridge
and William Wordsworth s Poetics Storming of the Bastille 1789 [1] During and in the aftermath of
the French Revolution, millennialist thought independent of the myriad of economic and historical
reasons for its precipitation influenced many authors. Many people perceived the French Revolution
as a foreshadowing of an Apocalypse that would usher in a new millenarian epoch, one levelling
social distinctions between people and bringing about what was believed to be Christ s absolute rule.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge was such a writer influenced by millennialist and apocalyptic belief in the
late eighteenth century. His early writings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Messiah s destined victory! (149 151, 161 177) Such examples of sensational and supernatural
depictions of destruction and war, however, are limited to Coleridge s earlier poetry. David Calleo
suggests that by the time the communal experiment of Pantisocracy had come to a close and Coleridge
himself had become slightly older, that he lost much of his earlier political idealism, and [w]ith it . . .
vanished his spontaneous and effortless vision of divine purpose in all things . . . [9] Further
mitigating factors, such as The French Revolution s apparent reversal of many of its former ideals to
foster liberty and democracy to policies of open military aggression, shifted Coleridge s thinking
about a manifest millennial reign of Jesus through a predestined social apocalypse. His focus became
one of criticism and active intervention of the poet as an agent of social change. In contrast to his

Ordinary People and Family Systems
As you read you will learn information of the 1980 movie Ordinary People, the theory of family
systems, and how they relate to one another. I will describe some basic information about the movie as
well as key points that I feel will connect to the idea of family systems. I will also touch base on
strictly the theory of Family systems for a better understand of the characters and plot of the movie.
The movie, Ordinary People, is about a family that is currently suffering the unexpected death of their
son, Buck, due to a boating accident. Shortly after, their youngest son and now only child, Conrad,
tries to committee suicide by slitting his wrists, but was saved by his father, Calvin, who found him in
the bathroom. Conrad was with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie basically did a metaphorical domino affect, as you see the family slowly falling down.
Like I mentioned earlier when a family gains or losses a family member it is now considered a whole
new group. Sadly for the Jarrett family they lost a son and were now dealing with adjustments of
living, in a sense, as a new family. Calvin, the father, does a very good job staying positive but still
recognizing that something horrible happened to their family and things still need to be dealt with.
Beth seems to only worry about the material things as a form of a distraction. You see her focusing on
setting the silver just perfectly; worrying about what clothes her husband is going to wear, and she
worries more about making sure that what is happening inside the family stays between the family.
Conrad is emotionally going through a lot but tries his best to keep it inside. I think the way the Jarrett
family is trying to cope with their new group is a perfect example for how the behaviors in the family
will change because of one person. One of the first things that happens is when Conrad decides to start
seeing Dr. Berger. This brings a sense of relief to Calvin, and embarrassment to Beth. In one scene,
Calvin is talking to a friend about the progress Conrad is making

Ritual In The Lottery
The traditions and the ritual of The Lottery in Shirley Jackson s story seems to be just as old as the
town itself, specifically since most of the residents don t recall any of the old rituals, even old man
Warner, who is celebrating his 77th lottery. By the means of this, they are old fashioned in some ways
and fixed in traditions of superstitions that seemed to involve human sacrifice. The village lottery
culminates in a violent murder each year. A bizarre that suggests how dangerous rituals can be when
people follow it blindly. Before we know what kind of lottery they are conducting, the villagers and
their preparations seem harmless. They have selected a relatively pathetic man to run the lottery, and
children run around gathering stones in the town square. In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson,
Psychoanalytic theory helps the reader come to the conclusion that the townspeople are included in an
act of conspiracy. This conclusion is significant because of the refusal of the townspeople to abandon
tradition and question the lottery ritual suggests the negative consequences of blindly following evil
rituals, the randomness of persecution, and the townspeople are governed by mob psychology and
abandon their reason to act out with great cruelty.
The refusal of the townspeople to abandon tradition and question the lottery s ritual suggest the

Taking a Look at Thermal Cracking
Thermal Cracking:
The simple distillation of crude oil produces various types of products and some of them (heavy
distillates) are not very much useful as a fuel when compared to light distillates. So there is a need for
subsequent conversion of heavy distillates to light distillates. This can be obtained by altering the
molecular structure of hydrocarbons in heavy distillates. One of the ways of accomplishing this
change is by Cracking , a process that breaks the high boiling point petroleum fractions into more
useful products like gasoline, fuel oil, gas oils. Thermal Cracking is the process of converting high
boiling point petroleum fractions to more useful products using high temperature to heat them up and
this high temperature gives them sufficient heat energy to crack.
The first thermal cracking method, the Shukhov cracking process, was invented by Russian engineer
Vladimir Shukhov, in the Russian empire, Patent No. 12926, November 27, 1891and the first thermal
cracking process was developed around 1913. In thermal cracking heavy oils are heated in large drums
under pressure to crack them into small molecules which have good anti knocking properties but this
process lead high coke formation. Thermal cracking of hydrocarbons follows free radical mechanism.
Free radical mechanism has three steps Initiation, propagation, and termination. Cracking happens in
the initiation step and the termination step leads to formation of coke. This process of thermal
cracking evolved

Impressionism And Its Influence On Art
Impressionism is often considered the first, true, modern art style. Do you agree with this statement, or
not? In your post, please refer to both Impressionist images and earlier art to support your discussion.
According to Giuntini the period of modernism began in 1850 and goes to 1960. (2015, para. 2)
Moreover, Giuntini continued that it started with Realist and ended with Abstract Impressionism.
Other sources say that Impressionism was the first truly modern artistic style. I am a tendency to agree
with that statement that Impressionism is the first modernistic style and here is my basis. There were
certain standards that art schools sort of subscribed to, and some ideals were that art be morally
uplifting and of a classic standard. However, there was shift in art with the Romanticism movement,
and while romanticism wanted to evoke emotion and used various methods to do so, realist artists
wanted to be in there here and now, something that was rather new and forward thinking. With the
industrial revolution all around them realists wanted to paint what they saw in everyday life.
Charles Baudelaire proclaimed that an artist must be their own time not stuck in the past. Gustave
Courbet of course embraced this and painted his uncle s funeral and called it A Burial at Ornans, of
course it was rejected for display so he did his own showing.
(Courbet, 1849) A Burial at Ornans
While this was a more modern subject matter still this style seemed harkened to Caravaggio in the

Analysis Of Kelly Clarkson s Piece
Learning to Trust: Kelly Clarkson Piece by Piece
A recent performance that captured not only the audience but also the judges on American Idol by
Kelly Clarkson called Piece By Piece not only had everybody in tears but also in complete awe. This
performance became huge in the world of Facebook, so many people watching the video, sharing the
video, and telling their stories about their feelings related to the lyrics. Throughout this essay I will be
discussing Kelly Clarkson s journey throughout her life, how single family parenting is impacting the
society, how the outlook on single family homes have changed throughout generations because it is
becoming more of a norm and finally the emotional connection to the songs that she has written in
regards to her father and the struggles she has faced throughout her life. To me Kelly has a way of
capturing her audience and pulling them into the songs and really making the lyrics make sense, and
helping people in similar situations realize that they are not alone in their struggles. Watching the
judges including Keith Urban sit and cry at her performance, showed how much this song really spoke
to so many people, and got me crying even harder then I was just listening to the song. Kelly has been
a huge success since winning the first season of American Idol. She came back to perform this
powerful piece on their final show. Even watching Jennifer Lopez reaction was hard to see. Everybody
was just pulled into this song and you

  • 2. Essay on The Milgram Experiment The Milgram Experiment (Hart) Stanley Milgram s experiment in the way people respond to obedience is one of the most important experiments ever administered. The goal of Milgram s experiment was to find the desire of the participants to shock a learner in a controlled situation. When the volunteer would be ordered to shock the wrong answers of the victims, Milgram was truly judging and studying how people respond to authority. Milgram discovered something both troubling and awe inspiring about the human race. Since they were first published in 1963, MIlgram s sensational findings have been offered as an explanation for mass genocide during the Holocaust and events such as the My Lai Massacre in Vietnam and the torture of prisoners in Abu ... After working at Yale for about a year, Milgram remembered that Harvard was an Academic Eden , and wanted to return there and continue his psychological research. In 1963, he returned to Harvard and began his now famous experiments. Stanley Milgram died on December 20th 1984 at the height of his career. (Encyclopedia.com Milgram, Stanley Biography) (Carollo)The Milgram Experiment consisted of 3 participants: the teacher, the learner and the experimenter. The learner, unbeknownst to the teacher, was always an associate of Milgram. Participants were paired with Milgram s associate and a lottery of sorts was used to determine who would be the teacher and learner. According to Saul McLeod, The draw was fixed so that the participant was always the teacher, and the learner was Milgram s associate (pretending to be a real participant. • 4. Evaluation Of An Action Research Project Evaluation of an Action Research Project In action research, an individual or a group of colleagues applies scientific methods to real life problems or issues occurring within a work or educational environment (Conscious Educating, 2009a). According to Dr. Waddell, action research seeks to accomplish two goals, which are to stimulate learning and make a difference (Waddell, 2007). Teachers, researchers, and administrators all evaluate, investigate, and analyze problems or concepts in hopes of improving them and thereby benefiting students, the classroom environment, and their own teaching practices. Step 2, Plan, involves taking action gathering data or information by observing or monitoring the effects. Ms. Senter set out to find information regarding a fantasy unit. Through her research, she was able to locate ready made units on science fiction but not on fantasy. The benefit of action research is that it encourages collaboration and the development of learning communities (Ary et al., 2015, p. 550). Ms. Senter collaborated with fellow English teachers, then realized that she still needs more resources and support. Accordingly, she drew on the local library for extra support, deepening her knowledge and gaining materials to help her design her own nine week instructional unit on fantasy to add to her eleventh grade literature curriculum. Step 3, Act, sees the practitioner implementing a plan of action. Ms. Senter has completed her unit on fantasy and has developed her unit based on four major themes: (1) fantasy as a unique literary form that emphasizes imagination and magic, with stories often set in an imaginary place; (2) fantasy s use of elements also found in other novels (character, setting, plot, theme); (3) fantasy stories multiple levels of meaning; and (4) fantasy s use of the usual pattern of narrative progression (background, build up, climax, resolution). • 8. The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments. Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party authority generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which is generally termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of attestation is based on five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in the earlier phase are certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to deliver fresh information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s future behaviour. This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after the session is over and for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful information about the target by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For useful information about the target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third principle aims that the target system must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements to be sent to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Did Jeremiah s Corrupt Kings Jeremiah Judah s corrupt kings Jeremiah is commonly known as the weeping prophet because of his deep commitment to and empathy and compassion for the people of Judah; to whom he was chosen to chastise. He was a prophet during the reign of five kings including: Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. King Josiah had brought about reform throughout Judah and Jerusalem, restoring the people to proper worship of God. However, when the king died, subsequent kings returned to the corrupt religious practices of: idolatry, child sacrifice, and worship of Baal and other false gods, which had been established by previous kings. Although God had withheld his wrath during King Josiahs reign; it would eventually fall upon Judah because of the sins and evil that the other kings had promoted. Jeremiah s calling When God first called Jeremiah, Jeremiah argued that he was too young to speak for God. However, God reminded him of who had been in control of his life and future all along, Before you were born I set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5). God charged Jeremiah with the purpose to deliver the ... The techniques that are used by all fraternities and sororities are called rushing and hazing. Rushing is the act of popularizing a given fraternity or sorority to attract new members. As mentioned in the introduction, the alternate forms of rushing cover a large spectrum, but they all have the same goal: be the best to attract the best. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes. Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. For example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are responsible for cleaning up loose garbage on the field after a practice. As mild as this example might be, hazing can be taken to an extreme and often has poor outcomes that can severely damage the psyche of an individual. However, a sense of tradition and continuation continually inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities and sororities especially. Hazing has become a form a bonding that allow new initiates to become closer as a brotherhood or sisterhood; these two both being the most important part of fraternities and sororities. To create an everlasting bond, Greek organizations promote ultimate a familial intimacy that is unparalleled by other social groups. • 11. An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state. There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract. For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be, but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Literary Analysis Of Six Feet UnderElegy ) Six Feet Under (A Literary Analysis on Elegy) Have you ever wondered why people are so rude and disrespectful if we all eventually end up in the same place. Every grave is the same size. The amount of time that you will spend in your grave is longer than anything you ll ever have to go through. There is a very smart little boy that is the author of this poem, he imagines dying and questions what wil be put on his tombstone. He sits under a tree in the cemetary and thinks about life, all different kinds of people and the way that they live. He compares city life with small town life. There are many different ways of living and the author Thomas Gray, puts these words together to explain it. You are your education. You can only go as far as what you know, which means you can only do as much as you re allowed, if you don t have knowledge of what you re doing it s because you don t have a strong enough education about it. If you do well in school that means you can go to college and get a decent job with it. If you don t do that well in school for whatever reason then you will only go as far as a high school diploma will take you. There are so many opprotunities that you will have and get if you are smart compared to someone that is not. There are other reasons as to why people aren t doing well in school too like their life at home, and everything going on around them. There will always be someone with more money than you. There will always be someone that seems that they are better than you for whatever reason. You just have to work as hard as you allow yourself to prove that you are just as equal as them. There are a ton of people that could ve been amazing but were never given the chance to prove it. There are more problems in this world with money than anything else. If we didn t have to worry about money though something else would be just as big of a problem if not more. People that lived in the country don t have the distraction of money, they don t have the loudness of the city. • 15. Globalization Vs Neorealism Globalization is the intensification of networks of interdependence at multi continental distances. It is the idea that actions in one area of the world affect different areas in the world. The argument, though, is whether or not globalization is occurring, if countries are dependent or interdependent. When turning on the news today, one might see more on whats going on in Russia or North Korea than in their own backyard. This is an example of Globalization. By examining it through Neorealism, one can better understand its prevalence. Neorealism primarily centers on the importance of the structure of the international system when explaining the events in international politics. It states that a state s position in the international system determines its actions and behavior. The father of Neorealism, Waltz, stated in the Journal of Politics and Society that, different international relation structure permit and cause the units of a system to change their behavior and produce different outcomes (Waltz p.4). If that be the case, then Globalization is at the center of politics. The theory of Neorealism itself defends the argument that Globalization is occurring; one state s capabilities directly affects another s actions. To better understand this one must accept that the international system s ordering principle is anarchy, the idea that there is no higher authority or world government. Theories whether old or new has allowed us to know what we know now. There are many theories in the field of psychology or educational psychology that are important to further understand human behavior. However, this paper will focus on only two theories which are; Erikson s psychosocial theory and Alfred Adler s Adlerian theory. Erik Erikson s psychosocial development has always been a great contribution to the field of psychology by Erik Erikson (Berk, 2007). Erikson suggested that everyone experiences a series of psychosocial stages instead of psychosexual stages as proposed by Sigmund Freud. Despite the fact that Erikson disagreed with Sigmund Freud in so many areas in his psychosexual theory, it was actually Freud s psychosexual theory that helped Erikson formulate his own psychosocial theory and Erikson was very much influenced by Sigmund and his work (Erikson, 1968). So even if Erikson disagreed with Freud, Sigmund actually contributed to Erikson s psychosocial theory because if it wasn t for Freud s shortcomings in his psychosexual theory, Erikson would not have come up with his own psychosocial theory (Erikson, 1968). • 34. Taking a Look at Thermal Cracking Thermal Cracking: The simple distillation of crude oil produces various types of products and some of them (heavy distillates) are not very much useful as a fuel when compared to light distillates. So there is a need for subsequent conversion of heavy distillates to light distillates. This can be obtained by altering the molecular structure of hydrocarbons in heavy distillates. One of the ways of accomplishing this change is by Cracking , a process that breaks the high boiling point petroleum fractions into more useful products like gasoline, fuel oil, gas oils. Thermal Cracking is the process of converting high boiling point petroleum fractions to more useful products using high temperature to heat them up and this high temperature gives them sufficient heat energy to crack. The first thermal cracking method, the Shukhov cracking process, was invented by Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov, in the Russian empire, Patent No. 12926, November 27, 1891and the first thermal cracking process was developed around 1913. In thermal cracking heavy oils are heated in large drums under pressure to crack them into small molecules which have good anti knocking properties but this process lead high coke formation. Thermal cracking of hydrocarbons follows free radical mechanism. Free radical mechanism has three steps Initiation, propagation, and termination. Cracking happens in the initiation step and the termination step leads to formation of coke. This process of thermal cracking evolved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In your post, please refer to both Impressionist images and earlier art to support your discussion. According to Giuntini the period of modernism began in 1850 and goes to 1960. (2015, para. 2) Moreover, Giuntini continued that it started with Realist and ended with Abstract Impressionism. Other sources say that Impressionism was the first truly modern artistic style. I am a tendency to agree with that statement that Impressionism is the first modernistic style and here is my basis. There were certain standards that art schools sort of subscribed to, and some ideals were that art be morally uplifting and of a classic standard. However, there was shift in art with the Romanticism movement, and while romanticism wanted to evoke emotion and used various methods to do so, realist artists wanted to be in there here and now, something that was rather new and forward thinking. With the industrial revolution all around them realists wanted to paint what they saw in everyday life. Charles Baudelaire proclaimed that an artist must be their own time not stuck in the past. Gustave Courbet of course embraced this and painted his uncle s funeral and called it A Burial at Ornans, of course it was rejected for display so he did his own showing.
