Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Essay
Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Descartes is responsible for the skepticism that has been labeled
Cartesian doubt. Hume critiques this skepticism in his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding.
After his discussion of Cartesian doubt, he offers a different type of skepticism that he considers as
being more effective philosophically. Is Hume right in his characterization of Cartesian doubt and is
the skepticism he offers better? Descartes introduced the idea of universal doubt to philosophy. If there
is even a slight case for doubting something, then it should be doubted. His skepticism was used to
find a basis for knowledge and his aim was to establish truths. He relayed this universal doubt to all
human understanding. Not only does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cartesian doubt does not allow us to advance. We would be in a constant state of doubting. How
would one lay a foundation of truths if it is possible to doubt all? No reasoning could ever bring us to
a state of assurance and conviction upon any subject (Hume Section XII part 1). Hume does give some
credit to this method of skepticism. It can be useful in philosophy when used reasonably. A degree of
doubt should escort every person who reasons. This doubt gets rid of prejudices in judgments and
helps rid closed mindedness brought about by education. It allows philosophy to be brought down to
basic principles and gives a foundation to slowly build upon. This slow progress allows a review of
thoughts and establishes sure steps to truths. Hume s skepticism is limiting but not as limiting as
Cartesian doubt. Hume calls this mitigated skepticism. Another species of mitigated skepticism which
may be of advantage to man kind is the limitation of our enquiries to such subjects as are best
adapted to the narrow capacity of human understanding (Section XII part. 3). We should direct our
focus and studies to experiences of everyday life and to common occurrences. Extraordinary or remote
ideas and thoughts should be left to the imaginations of people of the arts. By looking at the natural
powers of the mind one can find what should be the objects of enquiry and study. Hume writes that are
two enquiries that man

Don t Let Your Dreams Be Dreams
Don t let your dreams be dreams, just do it , Shia Lebouf. Young Lewis and Clark dreamed of
adventures and exploring. They did not let their dreams be dreams. As adults the two would lead an
expedition of historical significance to the United States.
Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774, near Charlottesville, Virginia and was the boyhood
neighbor of Thomas Jefferson. (lewisandclark) Meriwether Lewis spent much of his time as a youth in
the outdoors, and developed an interest in plants, animals, and geology. He enlisted as a private in the
Virginia Volunteer Corps during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. In 1795, he joined the regular U.S.
Army at the rank of Ensign and was later promoted to the rank of Captain. In 1801 Lewis became the
personal secretary to Thomas Jefferson, the newly elected President of the United States.
(Scienceviews) William Clark was born on August 1, 1770. William Clark was a Virginian native who
was four years older than Lewis, (lewisandclark) Clark joined the militia at age 19. In 1791, he
transferred to the regular army as an Ensign, advancing to the rank of lieutenant. William Clark was at
one point, Meriwether Lewis commander during their service in the militia. Clark resigned his
commission in 1796, returning to his family estate which he later inherited. (Scienceviews)
President Jefferson s plans for the nation depended upon western expansion and access to international
markets for American farm products.

The Cloning Debate
Although there are many benefits to cloning and stem cell research, there is much to debate on the
ethics. Many people feel that the scientific community are attempting to play God , while others do
not see the harm if such research and experiments are used to benefit the well being of man kind. I
will attempt to draw a conclusion on the ethics of stem cell research with this essay. Are cloning and
stem cell research ethical?
There is much to be said about creating a human life. It is a miracle that two people can procreate to
populate our planet. When a person dies, they can choose to be an organ donor. This is also a miracle.
A surgeon can take the organs from one person and surgically implant them into another who is a
match and save the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case where on child were to become sick, the parents then can have a savior sibling. This is a
child that is born for the sole purpose to provide the older sibling with means to survive. This can be
done through the donations of organs and tissues and even the use of the umbilical cord blood
(Humber). The concept of a savior sibling is not new, except for the cloning. Cloning ensures that a
new child would be a match for the existing sibling. In cases of Leukemia, the treatment involves
radiation and chemotherapy, this often destroys bone marrow (Humber). For many patients finding a
match is just not possible. This is where a donor sibling would insure the bone marrow needed for the
patient. This causes concerns for children becoming objects of manufacturing rather than as people
born with value and dignity of their own. Per Immanuel Kant s second principle of the categorical
imperative, by treating the donor child as a mere means, rather than as ends in themselves (Manninen).
Some argue that this form of cloning and saving embryos can also lead to a replacement child for one
who was deceased. Although in a way the replacement child would be identical to the child who was
deceased, their soles would not be the same. You cannot replace a child with another. This also leads
to the replacement child being forced to relive the life of the genetic predecessor. Meaning that the
child could not have a life of their own. The argument in this case is that everyone has a right to an
open future. This is disproved in the article in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy on Cloning
where it states that The child s very desire to be different from her predecessor illustrates that she is
not destined to be like her predecessor (Manninen) There are many different arguments against and for
cloning a replacement child. Most say that it is wrong to force a parent to

E Voting
Introduction :
Electronic voting in polling stations is in place of the world s largest E Democracies, and I voting is

his education at Madrid s Royal Academy of San Fernando. Unfortunately, this school was not fit for
Picasso. Carsten Peter Warncke wrote an article called Pablo Picasso Biography In this article it states,
Picasso dropped out of school in Madrid not because he thought he did not have anything to learn
anymore, but because the teachers in Madrid couldn t help him solve the technical problems he had .
Even though he dropped out of school Picasso used his own perspective of reality to paint. After
dropping out of school Picasso moved to Paris with Carles Casagemas, Carles was Picasso s
roommate and a close and dear friend. Picasso s work was not popular, and he was unable to make an
earnings from his paintings in Paris and moved back to Barcelona. Picasso s style of painting was
about to change due to the death of his friend. While back in Barcelona, Picasso found out that Carles
Casagemas committed suicide. Picasso was very upset and troubled by the death of his friend. In
response to the death of his friend, Pablo painted The Death of Casagemas, a portrait of his friend s
head with a bullet wound. The painting has a blue tint to it. The Death of Casagemas, is considered the
first work of Pablo Picasso blue period.

Mate Selection Sociology
Family as a word is not easy to define, because it is so significant and universal to humanity. The
worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common elements.
The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or groups, though,
have family forms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad definition of family is when
certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption.
Human groups have many forms of mate selection, ways to trace descent, and methods to assign
authority and pass on property. Each group perceives its own forms of family as natural.
In the functionalist perspective, they stress that to survive a society, one must meet its basic needs.
They examine family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When ideas are right or wrong change, it leads to new norms that guide behavior in new directions.
Like said above, it was once an aforethought right for a wife who worked full time to also do all the
housework but it is no longer the case. Though there are apparent differences in how husbands and
wives spend their time, in what sociologists refer to it as gendered division of labor, where husbands
still talk the primary responsibility for earning the income and the wives take primary responsibility
for taking care of the house and children; still there is still a shift taking place in the traditional gender
division of labor: wives spend more time than they used to earn family income while husbands spend
more time than they used to on housework and child care so these trends are part of changing thoughts
of gender of what is deliberately the right for husbands and wives. In ushering these new norms and
behavior or what is deliberately appropriate maybe in the future greater marital equality can be

Alka-Seltzer Experiment
The purpose of this project is to test if smaller reactants create a faster chemical change. This test also
will show if hot or cold water affect the time of the chemical reaction. The experiment will show if
reactants are broken down into smaller particles can the chemical reactions speed up, the increase of
CO2 at ten second intervals. This will be done using an experiment with Alka seltzer tablets, varying
their physical composition and timing the release of CO2 over ten second intervals.
Alka Seltzer tablets have ingredients that help with indigestion, stomach aches, headaches, and
inflammation. The ingredients inside of a Alka Seltzer tablet are: 325 mg of aspirin, 1000 mg of citric
acid , and 1916 mg of sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate is a white powder that can be used as a
buffering agent for pH, a cleaning solution, and a electrolyte replenisher.Additionally, sodium
bicarbonate uses ions to increase plasma and create a buffering agent for pH. The molecular formula
for sodium bicarbonate is NaHCO3. Another primary ingredient in Alka Seltzer is citric acid. Citric
acid is a big factor in metabolism. Citric acid can be found in citric fruit. The salt contained in citric

Variables Of The Working Capital Requirements Essay
Dependent variables
1 working capital requirement ( WCR )
The study observes the determinants of the working capital requirements of an enterprise. Working
Capital Requirements (WCR_TA) were included as a dependent variable, as used by Shulman and
Cox (1985), as a measure of working capital management (cash and equivalents + marketable
securities + inventories + accounts receivables) (accounts payables + other payables). Working capital
requirements are deflated by total assets to control the size effect
2 Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC)
Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC) as a measure of working capital management, where a shorter CCC
represents the aggressiveness of working capital management measured by the following Cash
Conversion Cycle = Inventory days + Accounts Receivables days Accounts Payable day
Independent Variable Measures:
1 Operating cash flows deflated by total assets (OCF_TA) the cash flows generated from the routine
operations of the enterprise and obtained directly from the cash flow statement as well as deflated by
total assets. The high value of this ratio shows that the enterprise main operation generating enough
cash this also decreasing operation risk.
2 Size

Tess Being a Victim of Fate in Tess of the D Urbervilles
The president of the Immortals had done his sport with Tess
In his novel Tess of the d Urbervilles Thomas Hardy expresses his dissatisfaction, weariness, and an
overwhelming sense of injustice at the cruelty of our universal fate disappointment and
disillusionment. Hardy puts out an argument that the hopes and desires of Men are cruelly saddened
by a strong combination of fate, unwanted accidents, mistakes and many sad flaws. Although Tess is
strong willed and is clearly educated emotionally and mentally she soon becomes a victim of fate .
Many people would say that Tess was just unlucky, Had a stroke of bad luck, others would prefer to

Whilst on the other hand Abraham blames it on the blighted star. I would say that there is a sense of
fate in this chapter with the discussions between Tess and Abraham with regard to the stars.
Even though realistically the event is an accident, Thomas Hardy writes in such a way that we are lead
to believe that it is a cruelty of fate rather than a, direct sense of cause and effect . In the result to the
death, Tess feels tremendously guilty; this will make her more susceptible to her fathers wishes and
doings.
Tess is a beautiful young girl who oozes sexuality; however in this novel her beauty does not do her
any good. We can see examples of this in many chapters; in chapter eight we can see that Alec is
driving at a reckless speed to perhaps appear more manly in the company of Tess. Her natural instinct
is to grasp Alec s arm. It seems to me that Alec s intention was to have some type of physical contact
with Tess. However the arm holding was not enough for Alec so he asked her to grab his waist with
the excuse that he couldn t steer with her latching on. Alec uses Tess as a, sexual conquest . If Tess
wouldn t have killed Prince she wouldn t be exposed to such danger with Alec, in fact she wouldn t

Genghis Khan And The Great Khan Of The Mongol Empire
Genghis Khan was the founder and the Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. He united many of the
nomadic tribes of Northeast Asia and secured more land than any other conqueror in history. Genghis
Khan and the Mongolians were a leading force that molded much of Eurasia. He was born into
poverty, and experienced the death of his father at a very young age. Genghis Khan eventually brought
improvements to warfare, technology, and tribal relations in his attempt to establish a route to the Silk
Road. He was responsible for significant advancements in communication through bringing the Silk
Road under one cohesive political environment. The Mongol Empire linked Europe and Asia and
established trade between the East and West, creating true global commerce. The Mongol s image as

them had ever done. The Mongols were considered savages because they treated people cruelly and

How The Consumerism Of Buying Changes One s Attitude...
In the United States, companies have created the average American to be a consumer. However, the
consumerism mentality that most Americans have is akin to Godzilla. Rampaging on deals and the
opportunity to take what they think is rightfully theirs. My aim for this project was to discuss how the
consumerism of buying changes one s attitude towards others, ourselves, and our behavior of
responsibility.
Behavior of Others
The Christmas season is upon us, and an event that is always relevant to discuss is Black Friday . This
year, I went pre Black Friday shopping on the night of Thanksgiving before 10 pm. I went to the Wal
Mart, near my home, and I was alarmed; so many people clustered into the same location of the store
hoping to get decent DVDs for $1. I have heard enough horror stories to know that the nickname
Black Friday doesn t always mean good standing for economic numbers. I then went to Target and
The Castle Rock Outlet Mall. When I was at Kohls, I had a strange feeling of consumption, as there
were humorous Christmas shirts for $4.99. Consumerism doesn t just affect how we treat other people;
it also affects how we feel. I felt that certain locations that differ from socioeconomic standing, effects
interaction. At stores where merchandise costs more, there tends to be more friendly engagement; it
felt significantly less hostile.

analyzes how buyers and sellers interact

an organ transplant. Organ Transplantation involves the giving of a healthy body part from either a
living or dead individual to another person. (Fundukian, Organ, p674 678) Medical illnesses do not
discriminate. It doesn t matter about wealth, race, religion, or even age. The types of illnesses causing

up until the transplant and even some times post transplant. Surgeons are the ones who actually
perform the surgery and follow up care for some time after the surgery. Financial coordinators of
course aid patients in the understanding of financial matters. Finally, social workers help patients
understand and cope with issues pertaining. Besides the above groups, United Network Organ Sharing
and Organ Procurement Transplantation Network are essential in organ transplantation. These
organizations make it possible. UNOS created efficient distribution system of deceased organs that
allow for fair and timely allocation, formulated a patient waiting list, and set up a system to publicize

How Language Can Help Your Child Learn Sight Words

How to Use Sign Language to Help Your Child Learn Sight Words
Sign language has many beneficial uses for young children. Not only are you teaching your child a
way to communicate other than talking, but you can also teach them other things. I have found that
using sign language to teach sight words very beneficial. This project is perfect for those parents who
have already started teaching their toddler sign language. Your toddler will first need to have the
alphabet basics of sign language down packed, before moving on to sight words. The first thing that
you will need to do is create a list of sight words. You can purchase sight word flashcards from your
local Walgreens store, or even online at Walgreens.com. Once you have your flashcards you can start
with the first word.
You can start by picking the first word that you will work with for the week. Show your child how to
sign that first word. When you show them the way to make the word with their hands you can also
show them the card. This should be your project of the first week. Stick with one word for at least a
few weeks. Remember you don t want to be in any hurry to teach your child each words. Allow them
to take their time and slowly learn their sign language sight words. Not only will you be helping them
get started on the way to reading, with their eyes, but they will also be learning how to better
communicate with their hands.
Helping them to learn to sign with their hands is a great way to keep learning

penalty, global warming, legalizing marijuana, healthcare, plastic surgery, illiteracy, use of stem cells,
and much more. People will continue arguing about these topics. According to studies, it shows that
four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion (Induced Abortion in the
United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got pregnant and their
process of making the decision to have an abortion or not. These three young women had to make a

First, there is the medical abortion. Medical abortion, sometimes called Mifeprex™, RU 486, is a non
surgical abortion done using medication. There are two different methods of medical abortion
available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol.
Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a
hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or
injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is
either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is
surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical abortion is when a doctor removes a
fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and
is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten
her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me?).
In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the woman s
shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human being. A baby
deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can also severely affect
the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant to be broken. It goes
against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. People should be more

Astral Projection Research Paper
Astral Projection Research Paper
Throughout history, people have been experiencing astral projection. Commonly called out of body
experiences (OBEs), these are events in which one s consciousness actually seems to be separate from
the physical body. These are often described by people who have near death experiences(NDEs). Until
recently, they were kept secret by the people who experienced them for fear of being deemed insane
by society. However, there were those few who pursued this experience with an open, yet sometimes
fearful, mind. These people expanded their minds to become more open and peaceful. More people
than ever are engaging in astral projection, and finding that it can change the overview of life and

It is an escape from our bodies, it is adventurous, and it violates conventional standards of behavior
(Peterson).
Other identical OBEs occur during what are regarded as unconscious periods caused by accident or
injury. Mostly these are categorized as freak events and are tucked away in memory as anomalies or
something that didn t really happen. Human belief systems would not allow it to be otherwise. Some
of the most striking of the spontaneous OBEs are now often identified as near death
experiences(NDEs) (Monroe 8).
The typical NDE often begins as an out of body experience during which the NDEer observes things
that he or she could not possibly see from the location of the inert and unconscious body (Duncan 45).
At age eleven, a subject from a study in Seattle experienced cardiac arrest and was without a heartbeat
for twenty minutes.
I heard a whooshing sound in my ears, he told the doctor. I felt like you feel when you go over a bump
in a car going real fast and you feel your stomach drop out. The next thing I knew, I was in a room,

New Belgium Brewing Company Case Study
The New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) started out as a small beer brewing concept in 1991,
brewing beers out of their basement. Once they determined they had a product that could be
marketable, they opened their first brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado and have been growing ever since,
becoming the third largest craft brewer in the country (New Belgium Brewing Company, 2014). But
just as any business there is always competition and consumer opinion which allows a business to
continue to develop and grow within their market. Competition in the microbrew arena has grown
over the last decade and according to the Boulder, Colorado based Brewers Association, the number of
microbreweries has surged in the past five years 73% nationally (Olson, 2014). For the New Belgium
Brewing Company, they have used their competitive advantage to continue to grow their business in a
market that shows heavy increases of new competition. The concept of competitive advantage is,
strengths possessed by the firm or real weaknesses possessed by rival firms (Ferrell Hartline, 2011). ...

brand distinction to building real brand relevance through social and environmental advocacy. NBB
believes that individuals want to believe and feel good about the products they purchase. They feel
that their most important asset is its image, which is a corporate brand that stands for quality,

Expressiveness In A Youtube Video Of Corelli s Christmas...
Expressiveness is something that communicates a well defined mood. In music, this is done by
making notes mean something. With this, the audience doesn t just hear music. They feel it. In a
Youtube video of Corelli s Christmas Concerto, an ensemble does this through many different ways.
First, they made use of transitions. At 1:02, the players changed over into a faster tempo than before.
The opposite is done at 1:22, where the change of tempo is done with one single note. The legato that
dominates much of the music conveys a sense of calmness. On the other hand, the staccato esque
section and fast tempo from 1:02 to 1:22 creates a sense of tension in the piece. These two moods
contrast each other and add another sense of dimension to the music.

Arranged Marriages In The Nineteenth Century
In the nineteenth century, the marriages were arranged by the parents. The parents would arrange the
marriages by wealth. The women and men do not have the chance to start the relationship as
friendship or girlfriend and boyfriend, so they are able to see if they love each other. Instead they go
straight into man and wife, they do not have the love for each other until later on in the relationship.
Once the women get married their wealth also belongs to the husband. If the women worked later in
the marriage, the earning she received will belong to her husband. The women do not have a say in
their marriage. The women do as their husband tells them. The husbands had the control over the
wives. The man had the power in everything the wife did

A Black And White And Silent Movie Released
Sherlock Jr. is a black and white and silent movie released in 1924. Bister Keaton was responsible for
direction and performance in the forty nine minutes long movie. As the main protagonist, Keaton is a
projectionist in a theater and also longing to be a detective. However, when he is framed by the local
sheik at the home of the girl he likes, the naïve projectionist is unable to prove his innocence by
evidences and leaves. Projecting the movie in the theater, he has a dream of arresting the annoying
criminal, who makes him be a disgraceful person in the front of the family. On the other hand, in

sheik worries that the young man book might discover his evil deed with the aid of the book.
Following the sight of the man, the eye line match offers a close up of the book that reveals the steps

Action Potentials
In physiology, an action potential is a short lasting event in which the electrical membrane potential of
a cell rapidly rises and falls, following a consistent trajectory. Action potentials occur in several types
of animal cells, called excitable cells, which include neurons, muscle cells, and endocrine cells, as
well as in some plant cells. In neurons, they play a central role in cell to cell communication. In other
types of cells, their main function is to activate intracellular processes. In muscle cells, for example,
an action potential is the first step in the chain of events leading to contraction. In beta cells of the
pancreas, they provoke release of insulin.[a] Action potentials in neurons are also known as nerve
impulses or spikes , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One type is generated by voltage gated sodium channels, the other by voltage gated calcium channels.
Sodium based action potentials usually last for under one millisecond, whereas calcium based action
potentials may last for 100 milliseconds or longer. In some types of neurons, slow calcium spikes
provide the driving force for a long burst of rapidly emitted sodium spikes. In cardiac muscle cells, on
the other hand, an initial fast sodium spike provides a primer to provoke the rapid onset of a calcium
spike, which then produces muscle

Blister Agent Research Paper
Blister Agents Blister agent is one of the most used and deadliest chemical weapon ever to be
documented in the last century. The scientific name for blister agent is Vesicants, from the Latin vesica
bladder, or blister. Blister agents or vesicants are chemicals which have severe irritating properties that
produce fluid filled pockets on the skin and damage to the eyes, lungs and other mucus membranes.
Symptoms of exposure may be immediate or delayed for several hours after exposure. Weather plays a
key part in how effective the use of blister agents can be when being deployed on an enemy. There are
three major types of blister agents that can be categorized as such: sulfur mustard, nitrogen mustard,
and Lewisite and halogenated oximes. Blister agents have some very particular traits verses other
chemical weapons that are out there. Sulfur mustard gas is clear to yellowish in color or a brown oily
liquid with a slight garlic or mustard smell. Lewisite contains arsenic and is a dark oily liquid with a
light smell of geraniums. Phosgene, which is one of the most common halogenated oximes, is a
colorless solid or liquid, with an intense irritating odor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gift Giving In Beowulf
Seamus Heaney s Beowulf is a translated literary work from the Anglo Saxon era which puts emphasis
on countless themes, such as, being a warrior, religion and wealth. Over the course of the poem, the
speaker puts emphasis on material possessions, which is shown through the act of gift giving. Some
argue that the importance put gift giving and wealth in Beowulf, is to present a generous attitude
however, it is evident that the purpose of this act is purely selfish. Parts of the poem like, Hrothgar
giving Beowulf gold and treasures after his conquests, Grendel not wanting to pay a wergild, and
Hrothgar paying money to the Wulfings for Beowulf s father are all examples of this.
For insistence, the way in which Hrothgar gives Beowulf all those treasures appear to be out of respect
and honor, however, this could be a manner to gain and retain his support. The King presents Beowulf
with numerous treasures that vary between gold and horses, armor and swords, and he even presents a
reward to the other men who fought with him. The following quotation explains Beowulf s thought on
the matter. So Beowulf drank his drink at ease; / it was hardly a shame to be showered with such gifts
/ in front of the hall troops. (Heaney 1024 1026) Beowulf gladly accepts the gifts that are being thrust
upon him, without putting much thought into it and thinking only about his reputation. This is shown
through the speaker s word choice and the carefree tone of the lines. Regardless of that, it is

Backward Giant Circle Essay
I chose to study the physics of one move in gymnastics, the backward giant circle around a bar
because I have seen quite a few performed and helped to coach people to enable them to do this move.
A Backward giant circle occurs when a gymnast rotates 360° counter clockwise around a single bar
from a handstand on the bar. It appears to be a complete circle, but in fact it is not because of the
forces of gravity, air resistance and friction acting upon the gymnast. However, if you perceive the
skill as a gymnast rotating 360° around the bar in a flat shape, it appears to deny the laws of physics as
we know them. To be able to achieve this move a gymnast is required to alter their center of gravity
around the bar in order to counteract the force of gravity on the upswing, overcome both the frictional
resistance of their hands on the bar and air resistance. We can look at the gravitational pull of the
gymnast s mass to earth and apply some of Newton s laws of motion to ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the exact shape of these parabolas will be determined by the velocity of the gymnast s
center of gravity before commencing the giant, which consequently is affected by both the gymnast s
height and mass. While in the air the gymnast can change their shape and therefore the distribution of
the mass about the center of gravity, but the flight path of the center of gravity will be unaffected
unless acted upon by some external force.
Newton s first law of motion states that a body will remain at rest , and a body in motion will remain
in motion in a straight line and at a constant speed unless acted upon by external forces. So a body will
only accelerate if an unbalanced force is applied. Therefore, to initiate a backward giant circle the
gymnast must first exert a force to set the body in motion, and this is usually done by a

Examples Of Sexism In A Doll s House
Sexism. It is the main theme for the play A Doll s House by Henrik Isben. Henrik Isben has a very
strong opinion on this in his play A Doll s House. He shows how he feels about the theme, sexism.
The main character, Nora, is portrayed as constantly being put down by her husband, Torvald. One
example when she is put down by her husband is on the very first page. Torvald said, ...Has my little
spendthrift been wasting money again? Nora was known to spend a little more than necessary in her
youth. However she has reverted her ways since she has been paying of a loan, taking care of the kids,
and taking care of the house. Torvald has said this because Nora had just gotten back from buying a
christmas tree and presents. She was trying to spoil her family because they would soon be coming in
to a larger sum of money and they could finally afford it. Another larger example of Torvald being
sexist is on page seven. Torvald is wagging his finger at Nora and says, Hasn t Miss Sweet Tooth been

when you know the backstory. Torvald doesn t allow Nora to ... Show more content on

And Torvald responds with Nice? because you as your husband wishes?... This, I found to be one of
the largest points where sexism was portrayed. I find it sexist because if you look very carefully, you
notice the exact choice of words. If Torvald had said me instead of your husband , it would imply that
Torvald is particularly controlling. However since the words your husband were chosen, it implies that

things that go wrong with your automobile. Sometimes a car repair is large and can be expensive to

avoid constantly taking your car into a service center for work is to properly maintain it.
Preventative maintenance is key to having a well functioning motor vehicle. When you take good care

Diego De Valera
The exact birthplace of the next author, Diego de Valera (1412 1488) does not emerge from any
existing documents, but consensus has accepted Cuenca as this place. Although several studies have
been completed that question his paternal lineage, he is believed to be the son of a doctor named
Alonso Chirino and María de Valera and was of noble lineage or minor nobility, which made it easier
for him to enter Juan II s Court (Contreras 27). Valera arrives at Juan II s Court at about the age of
fifteen where he becomes Juan II s and later Enrique IV s doncel; this was around the time that Juan II
first banished Álvaro from Court in 1427. Valera later leaves and goes on to prove himself as a knight
and then returns to Juan II s court in the midst of Álvaro s political strife. In his Tratado en defensa de

This author was a major player in the movement to re envision knighthood. In his Espejo de verdadera
nobleza (c. 1441), Valera criticizes those who become knights to avoid the payment of taxes
(Contreras 35). This emphasis on tax payments is important to consider, as it is precisely tax
corruption allegations against Álvaro de Luna that would play a role in his downfall (Netanyahu 353).
To be sure, Valera demonstrates the importance of a learned knight. Of the three writers, he stands out
by relaying the importance of defining true nobility in a most direct manner. In the process, Valera
emphasizes the importance of Christian, specifically Catholic, values while he makes an argument
against the statement by Seneca that defamers used which claims that good women exist. Valera
quotes the statement as follows Asy commo no ay cosa soberana a la buena muger, asy no ay cosa más

Country Music Analysis
Music will never stop evolving into various styles and sub genres, but over the last 30 years country
music has taken snowballed into a clash of old school country and pop styles. After the third
generation of country music grew past the honky tonk, consisting of a very basic ensemble of guitar,
bass, and vocals, a change was needed to revive the country music industry. Artists had to create new
styles of country, such as Countrypolitan, which aimed towards the mainstream pop markets. Despite
changes in time differences, style, and technological advances, there are parallels between the songs at

  • 2. Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Essay Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Descartes is responsible for the skepticism that has been labeled Cartesian doubt. Hume critiques this skepticism in his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding. After his discussion of Cartesian doubt, he offers a different type of skepticism that he considers as being more effective philosophically. Is Hume right in his characterization of Cartesian doubt and is the skepticism he offers better? Descartes introduced the idea of universal doubt to philosophy. If there is even a slight case for doubting something, then it should be doubted. His skepticism was used to find a basis for knowledge and his aim was to establish truths. He relayed this universal doubt to all human understanding. Not only does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cartesian doubt does not allow us to advance. We would be in a constant state of doubting. How would one lay a foundation of truths if it is possible to doubt all? No reasoning could ever bring us to a state of assurance and conviction upon any subject (Hume Section XII part 1). Hume does give some credit to this method of skepticism. It can be useful in philosophy when used reasonably. A degree of doubt should escort every person who reasons. This doubt gets rid of prejudices in judgments and helps rid closed mindedness brought about by education. It allows philosophy to be brought down to basic principles and gives a foundation to slowly build upon. This slow progress allows a review of thoughts and establishes sure steps to truths. Hume s skepticism is limiting but not as limiting as Cartesian doubt. Hume calls this mitigated skepticism. Another species of mitigated skepticism which may be of advantage to man kind is the limitation of our enquiries to such subjects as are best adapted to the narrow capacity of human understanding (Section XII part. 3). We should direct our focus and studies to experiences of everyday life and to common occurrences. Extraordinary or remote ideas and thoughts should be left to the imaginations of people of the arts. By looking at the natural powers of the mind one can find what should be the objects of enquiry and study. Hume writes that are two enquiries that man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Don t Let Your Dreams Be Dreams Don t let your dreams be dreams, just do it , Shia Lebouf. Young Lewis and Clark dreamed of adventures and exploring. They did not let their dreams be dreams. As adults the two would lead an expedition of historical significance to the United States. Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774, near Charlottesville, Virginia and was the boyhood neighbor of Thomas Jefferson. (lewisandclark) Meriwether Lewis spent much of his time as a youth in the outdoors, and developed an interest in plants, animals, and geology. He enlisted as a private in the Virginia Volunteer Corps during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. In 1795, he joined the regular U.S. Army at the rank of Ensign and was later promoted to the rank of Captain. In 1801 Lewis became the personal secretary to Thomas Jefferson, the newly elected President of the United States. (Scienceviews) William Clark was born on August 1, 1770. William Clark was a Virginian native who was four years older than Lewis, (lewisandclark) Clark joined the militia at age 19. In 1791, he transferred to the regular army as an Ensign, advancing to the rank of lieutenant. William Clark was at one point, Meriwether Lewis commander during their service in the militia. Clark resigned his commission in 1796, returning to his family estate which he later inherited. Many people feel that the scientific community are attempting to play God , while others do not see the harm if such research and experiments are used to benefit the well being of man kind. I will attempt to draw a conclusion on the ethics of stem cell research with this essay. Are cloning and stem cell research ethical? There is much to be said about creating a human life. It is a miracle that two people can procreate to populate our planet. When a person dies, they can choose to be an organ donor. This is also a miracle. A surgeon can take the organs from one person and surgically implant them into another who is a match and save the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case where on child were to become sick, the parents then can have a savior sibling. This is a child that is born for the sole purpose to provide the older sibling with means to survive. This can be done through the donations of organs and tissues and even the use of the umbilical cord blood (Humber). The concept of a savior sibling is not new, except for the cloning. Cloning ensures that a new child would be a match for the existing sibling. In cases of Leukemia, the treatment involves radiation and chemotherapy, this often destroys bone marrow (Humber). For many patients finding a match is just not possible. This is where a donor sibling would insure the bone marrow needed for the patient. This causes concerns for children becoming objects of manufacturing rather than as people born with value and dignity of their own. Per Immanuel Kant s second principle of the categorical imperative, by treating the donor child as a mere means, rather than as ends in themselves (Manninen). Some argue that this form of cloning and saving embryos can also lead to a replacement child for one who was deceased. Although in a way the replacement child would be identical to the child who was deceased, their soles would not be the same. You cannot replace a child with another. This also leads to the replacement child being forced to relive the life of the genetic predecessor. Meaning that the child could not have a life of their own. The argument in this case is that everyone has a right to an open future. This is disproved in the article in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy on Cloning where it states that The child s very desire to be different from her predecessor illustrates that she is not destined to be like her predecessor (Manninen) There are many different arguments against and for cloning a replacement child. This test also will show if hot or cold water affect the time of the chemical reaction. The experiment will show if reactants are broken down into smaller particles can the chemical reactions speed up, the increase of CO2 at ten second intervals. This will be done using an experiment with Alka seltzer tablets, varying their physical composition and timing the release of CO2 over ten second intervals. Alka Seltzer tablets have ingredients that help with indigestion, stomach aches, headaches, and inflammation. The ingredients inside of a Alka Seltzer tablet are: 325 mg of aspirin, 1000 mg of citric acid , and 1916 mg of sodium bicarbonate. Most people go to observe the animals and take pictures while they are there, but what they do not know is that it can be threatening. While people are taking pictures they do not know the proper precautions about being close to them. People do not know how the bears will react based upon spotting you. Although, there would be less attacks, bears should not be removed because it is there natural habitat, people are desensitizing bears, and bears attacking have been a defensive act. First, bears should not be removed because it is their common territory. In article 2 it states, Denali National Park and preserve is home to both black bears and grizzly bears (National Park Service n.p.). Since, Denali is a preserve to the bears that means Yellowstone and Yosemite National Park are preserves to them too. • 32. Blister Agent Research Paper Blister Agents Blister agent is one of the most used and deadliest chemical weapon ever to be documented in the last century. The scientific name for blister agent is Vesicants, from the Latin vesica bladder, or blister. Blister agents or vesicants are chemicals which have severe irritating properties that produce fluid filled pockets on the skin and damage to the eyes, lungs and other mucus membranes. Symptoms of exposure may be immediate or delayed for several hours after exposure. Weather plays a key part in how effective the use of blister agents can be when being deployed on an enemy. There are three major types of blister agents that can be categorized as such: sulfur mustard, nitrogen mustard, and Lewisite and halogenated oximes. Blister agents have some very particular traits verses other chemical weapons that are out there. Sulfur mustard gas is clear to yellowish in color or a brown oily liquid with a slight garlic or mustard smell. Lewisite contains arsenic and is a dark oily liquid with a light smell of geraniums. • 33. Gift Giving In Beowulf Seamus Heaney s Beowulf is a translated literary work from the Anglo Saxon era which puts emphasis on countless themes, such as, being a warrior, religion and wealth. Over the course of the poem, the speaker puts emphasis on material possessions, which is shown through the act of gift giving. Some argue that the importance put gift giving and wealth in Beowulf, is to present a generous attitude however, it is evident that the purpose of this act is purely selfish. Parts of the poem like, Hrothgar giving Beowulf gold and treasures after his conquests, Grendel not wanting to pay a wergild, and Hrothgar paying money to the Wulfings for Beowulf s father are all examples of this. For insistence, the way in which Hrothgar gives Beowulf all those treasures appear to be out of respect and honor, however, this could be a manner to gain and retain his support. The King presents Beowulf with numerous treasures that vary between gold and horses, armor and swords, and he even presents a reward to the other men who fought with him. The following quotation explains Beowulf s thought on the matter. So Beowulf drank his drink at ease; / it was hardly a shame to be showered with such gifts / in front of the hall troops. (Heaney 1024 1026) Beowulf gladly accepts the gifts that are being thrust upon him, without putting much thought into it and thinking only about his reputation. This is shown through the speaker s word choice and the carefree tone of the lines. Regardless of that, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Backward Giant Circle Essay I chose to study the physics of one move in gymnastics, the backward giant circle around a bar because I have seen quite a few performed and helped to coach people to enable them to do this move. A Backward giant circle occurs when a gymnast rotates 360° counter clockwise around a single bar from a handstand on the bar. It appears to be a complete circle, but in fact it is not because of the forces of gravity, air resistance and friction acting upon the gymnast. However, if you perceive the skill as a gymnast rotating 360° around the bar in a flat shape, it appears to deny the laws of physics as we know them. To be able to achieve this move a gymnast is required to alter their center of gravity around the bar in order to counteract the force of gravity on the upswing, overcome both the frictional resistance of their hands on the bar and air resistance. We can look at the gravitational pull of the gymnast s mass to earth and apply some of Newton s laws of motion to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the exact shape of these parabolas will be determined by the velocity of the gymnast s center of gravity before commencing the giant, which consequently is affected by both the gymnast s height and mass. While in the air the gymnast can change their shape and therefore the distribution of the mass about the center of gravity, but the flight path of the center of gravity will be unaffected unless acted upon by some external force. Newton s first law of motion states that a body will remain at rest , and a body in motion will remain in motion in a straight line and at a constant speed unless acted upon by external forces. So a body will only accelerate if an unbalanced force is applied. Therefore, to initiate a backward giant circle the gymnast must first exert a force to set the body in motion, and this is usually done by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Examples Of Sexism In A Doll s House Sexism. It is the main theme for the play A Doll s House by Henrik Isben. Henrik Isben has a very strong opinion on this in his play A Doll s House. He shows how he feels about the theme, sexism. The main character, Nora, is portrayed as constantly being put down by her husband, Torvald. One example when she is put down by her husband is on the very first page. Torvald said, ...Has my little spendthrift been wasting money again? Nora was known to spend a little more than necessary in her youth. However she has reverted her ways since she has been paying of a loan, taking care of the kids, and taking care of the house. Torvald has said this because Nora had just gotten back from buying a christmas tree and presents. She was trying to spoil her family because they would soon be coming in to a larger sum of money and they could finally afford it. Another larger example of Torvald being sexist is on page seven. • 38. Diego De Valera The exact birthplace of the next author, Diego de Valera (1412 1488) does not emerge from any existing documents, but consensus has accepted Cuenca as this place. Although several studies have been completed that question his paternal lineage, he is believed to be the son of a doctor named Alonso Chirino and María de Valera and was of noble lineage or minor nobility, which made it easier for him to enter Juan II s Court (Contreras 27). Valera arrives at Juan II s Court at about the age of fifteen where he becomes Juan II s and later Enrique IV s doncel; this was around the time that Juan II first banished Álvaro from Court in 1427. In his Espejo de verdadera nobleza (c. 1441), Valera criticizes those who become knights to avoid the payment of taxes (Contreras 35). This emphasis on tax payments is important to consider, as it is precisely tax corruption allegations against Álvaro de Luna that would play a role in his downfall (Netanyahu 353). To be sure, Valera demonstrates the importance of a learned knight. Of the three writers, he stands out by relaying the importance of defining true nobility in a most direct manner. In the process, Valera emphasizes the importance of Christian, specifically Catholic, values while he makes an argument against the statement by Seneca that defamers used which claims that good women exist. Artists had to create new styles of country, such as Countrypolitan, which aimed towards the mainstream pop markets.
