Poverty on the Rise
Poverty on the Rise There is a very wide range of income for individuals and families. This is why we
have people that are very wealthy which are referred to as the upper class and there is the middle class
that makes an average income, and the bottom of the income bracket lies the people in poverty.
Poverty is a condition in which a person or family does not have the means to satisfy basic needs for
food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Your race does not matter, every race has people that are in
poverty. But as it is statistically shown, different races have a different number of people in poverty. In
1996, the federal government established a minimum income level below which a person or family is
declared in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of the poverty population is made up of income maintenance programs. I would like to talk about
few of the programs that the government offers for people in poverty. Social insurance programs is the
first. There are many different types to the social insurance program. The first two are OASDHI and
Medicare. OASDHI is also known as social security, which replaces wages lost after retirement.
Medicare provides hospital insurance for the elderly and disabled. The third type is unemployment
compensation which allows workers that are unemployed for a while to collect thirty five percent of
their lost wages. The second program is Pubic Assistance. The first type is Supplemental Security
Income(SSI) this program allows disabled people to receive a minimum income. Aid to Families with
Dependent Children(AFDC) and Medicaid usually are linked together. Medicaid will pay for hospital
bills. AFDC provides certain families with children financial support. Medicaid is also offered to SSI
recipiances. The food stamp program is the last type. It provides Americans with coupons that can be
used for food. The government spends about 736 billion of its dollars on these different types of
programs. Gentry 3

Fairy Tales By The Grimm Brothers
Originally, fairy tales were used to teach children social norms or cultural beliefs within a society,
instead of primarily being used as entrainment. Fairy tales are also known to guide children to accept
the traditional stereotypes of being female and male, as they typically reinforce the idea that women
would be more desirable if they are not only obedient, but pure and beautiful as well. The view of
women as a lessor sex is also a common belief in a patriarchal society, which is commonly found in
most fairy tales. The ideas which fairy tales reinforce needs to be challenged. Written by the Grimm
brothers, the two fairy tales Little Snow White {1819} and Little Briar Rose {1812} will be analysed,
along with Hans Christian Andersen s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film does discriminate against women, as it portrays women to be submissive to a man s will. The
film also displays an attitude that it is perfectly acceptable for a beautiful woman to fall in love with
an ugly beast, but there is no indication that it is okay for a handsome man to fall for an ugly woman.
The film also displays woman solely in the private sphere, and the one occasion where Belle leaves it,
she has to be rescued. This indicates the idea that once a woman leaves the comforts of home, she has
to require the services of man to ensure her safety. Aside from the enchantress, all other female
character are shown as silly and selfish.
The film also displays the idea that if one does not conform to societies guidelines and values, then
they will be deemed as an outcast. Throughout the beginning of the film it is clear to the reader that
Belle is very intelligent, and possesses qualities which are typically reserved for male characters, such
as being adventures, reading, and inventing. Despite her obvious intelligence, the villagers deem her
as an outcast due to her overall longing for adventure. This reinforces the thinking that intelligent
females are a rarity, and to be something to be tolerated, but not encouraged. This is shown when the
villagers attempt to foil her ideas,

Beaver Fur Trade
Envisioning today s world without the events of the seventeenth century is a genuine awakening.
From the conquests of the Americas by the Europeans to traditional isolationist views in Asia, one
could sufficiently argue this period in history as being the catalyst that ushered in the interdependent
society enjoyed by those who presently inhabit the earth. Furthermore, the integration of people and
cultures led to numerous indispensable discoveries of goods in foreign lands. The global market
exploded as trade became prominent, and people s definition of amenity changed to that which meant
they needed it because they wanted it. Slaves, blue and white china, silver, and spices are only a few
examples of what was available on the global market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dish represents much more in the bigger scheme of the world than one might imagine. There had
been bitter conflict in the years prior to the rise in popularity of fine china in Europe between the
Dutch and Spanish. This fact is exemplified in the line, . . . Spain was the [Dutch] arch enemy: Spain
was the state that had occupied the Low Countries in the sixteenth century and had used spectacular
violence to suppress the Dutch independence movement (Brook 64). Being Portugal was in alliance
with the Spanish made their vessels fair game to be apprehended at sea by the Dutch. This occurred
with the Dutch occupying the two Portuguese ships; San Iago and Santa Catarina. Thus, it was by
domination that the inaugural shipments of fine china made its way to the Dutch country. Explaining
the arrival of the acquired Portuguese goods in Amsterdam, Brooks writes, Onto the docks of that city
emerged the first great trove of china to reach Holland, and buyers from all over Europe fought for a
piece (Brooks 63). While some goods were traded or confiscated to appease the masses personal
wants, other exchanges taking place in the time period of Vermeer was solely for survival. This
introduces the need for more than trade to survive. The need for a recognized world currency was at

How Reiki Changed My Life
Reiki energy has had a profound effect on different areas of my life. For starters, I normally offer
myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the
day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in
the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the
best of me.
I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come
out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). For example, I was giving myself
a reading with my Zen cards and my question was in regards to my past life. The first card I drew was
past life. This gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which as time passed, developed to be answers I sought for. It just took patience to see the
answers were already there. Reiki was this factor that allowed me to open my eyes to really see. Not in
the physical sense, but from the heart. And because of this, I understand with patience and gratitude, I
was able to manifest and connect with energies around me. The more grateful I was the quicker
manifesting became. Since last year, I began to develop a better understanding of energies and how
they mirror your vibration. Example: A few months ago, I found myself not wanting to be at work
anymore and felt such pain/resistance being there. I realized my relationship with my supervisor had
become tense and in a way it was disheartening since I was not sure what changed in our dynamic. I
placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in
reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude
for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our
CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. I was surprised she realized it, since
it seemed she did not notice or mind the change. I was able to use reiki to manifest a better
relationship with my supervisor, and was truly grateful that the universe heard me!

Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants
In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began
judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was
held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from
all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently,
there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy
makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a
semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to
wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant ,
contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on
veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the
goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes,
forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty
pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both
physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help
end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls.

Crime And Punishment By Fyrodor Doveskey
The Theorized Extraordinary to the Ordinary Romantic
The human race remembers people in history who fought for something they believed in. For
example, both Neapolitan Bonaparte and George Washington killed other people in battle, because
they had something that they believed worthy to fight for regardless of the established and universal
law against killing. In Raskolnikov`s words from Crime and Punishment, they were extraordinary
men. These men, according to Raskolnikov, had the right to commit any crime, because they were
leading ordinary people into a new and improved society, without any moral repercussions. In Fyrodor
Doveskey`s, Crime and Punishment, his character Raskolnikov`s argument of the extraordinary man
versus the ordinary man, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it becomes clear throughout the novel that he does feel guilty. For example, when
Raskolnikov helps Semyon Zakharovich Marmeladov return to his family after he is ran over,
Raskolnikov walks away feeling like he has somewhat atoned for his sins. Also, proving that
Raskolnikov feels guilty for what he did is that, at the end of the novel, Raskolnikov confesses in the
street, even though there was someone charged with the crime already. If, according to Raskolnikov,
an extraordinary man, which he believes himself to be, should feel no guilt, then why does
Raskolnikov feel the need to atone for his sins by helping Semyon Zakharovick Marmeladov`s family
and then eventually

Health Systems Are Not An Open Society
Today not everyone has equal opportunities and access to health care. Not everyone is respected the
same due to their physical features: skin color, texture of hair, and body type. An open society helps
individuals to respect for diversity, to promote inclusion, to support for national and global initiatives
dedicated to eliminating disparities, and to create open, healthy societies. In order to be an open
society, one must have an open mind of co workers and patients and self discipline to laws.
An open society is considered to be utopia (Nyswander, 1985). Health systems are not an open society,
but are always working to improve and striving to become an open society. In an open society,
workers respects their coworkers and patients, future laws, and abide the rules. Workers in an open
society are all free men , who are self disciplined, respect for rational order, and accept conformity to
laws for the general good, and trust others (Nyswander, 1985). Free men know how to work with
workers efficiently by communicating.
As individuals, we have to promote inclusion. In an open society, people need to always brainstorm
new goals to help the system to improve. Goals are mainly accomplished when everyone works
together comfortably. In some type of way, everyone should be included in the task such as, coming
up of goals or ways to accomplish the goal or being a part of the goal to help accomplish it. By having
everyone work together, it will create a positive

How Does Poe Create An Allegory In The Masque Of The Red...
Whether people acknowledge it or not, most people s greatest fear is death. In the short story, The
Masque of the Red Death, by E. Poe, he shows how people were trying to escape death, but may not
see what was to come. Early in the story, Prince Prospero and his friends were trying to escape the red
death. With this, the Prince throws a masquerade. Instead of seeing what was right in front of them,
they were too caught up in things that they could not see. To strengthen his allegory of life in The
Masque of the Red Death, Poe expresses that avoiding something does not make it go away through
his portrayal of the castle, the courtiers, and rooms one and seven. Prince Prospero lived in a very
magnificent castle due to his immense wealth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Prince Prospero s castle, he had a hallway of seven rooms. The rooms went from one direction to
another, starting in the east, changing by color as they went. Poe mentioned, That at the eastern
extremity was hung, for example, in blue and vividly blue were its windows (84). The symbol of the
rooms one and seven represents new life and death. With this, Poe shows how the room started in the
eastern extremity, just as the sun rises from the east, and is blue just as blue symbolizes life. Poe also
writes, The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung down the
walls (84). In this quote, he shows how the last room was black, which symbolizes death. This last
room was in the far western extremity. This shows that this was the last room, and everything must
end there. Consequently, many people did not notice the two different colors in the room. The first
color of that room was black, which was death. The other color was red which can symbolize blood.
Also, the colors of these rooms showed how the death could not be kept out. Above all, these colors
the stages of life. Therefore, the colors of the rooms showed what was

The Scopes Trial was one of the most famous court cases ever. The case lasted from the 10 21 of July
in 1925. This means that there were eight trial days. This case all started when John Scopes was
accused of teaching evolution in school. In Monkey Trial begins by the History channel stated,

The law, which had been passed in March, made it a misdemeanor punishable by fine to teach any
theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead

This announcement stated that they would offer their service to anyone who would like to go against
the newly passed Butler Law. Rappalye saw this as an opportunity to put Dayton on the map. This
plan did put Dayton on the map just like Rappalye hoped it would. He lured John Scopes a young
science teacher to the drugstore. There he convinced Scopes to teach evolution in the classroom. From
here the trial eventually began and became one of history s most famous court cases ever.
When the trial began on the 10th of July spectators and reporters were quick on the scene. The Streets
of Dayton, Tennessee had a carnival like atmosphere. It lasted for seven more historic days. People
were selling all sorts of things to flame the fire of the court case.
Each day started out with a prayer by different people. On day one the jury was chosen; it consisted
mostly of churchgoers.
According to State v. John Scopes ( The Monkey Trial )by Douglas O. Linder stated, The defense s
goal was not to win acquittal for John Scopes, but rather to obtain a declaration by a higher court
preferably the U.S. Supreme Court that laws forbidding the teaching of evolution were
unconstitutional.. The defense team was hoping that no one was realizing what they were

Shaking Baby Syndrome Essay
Shaken Baby Syndrome
Imagine yourself as a sweet, innocent, precious little baby. You are totally dependant upon adults to
give you what you need and most importantly love. Your only means of communication is crying so
you cry when you need to be fed, when you need your diaper changed, when you aren t feeling so
well, or when you just want some attention. You are crying and someone comes over to you. They
pick you up, but instead of holding you and comforting you, talking affectionately to you, they shake
you violently and vigorously. You are a baby, imagine the fear and pain that the shaking causes you.
This is a form of child abuse and what is even harder to believe is that it actually happens. The correct
term is Shaken Baby Syndrome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(The Epilepsy of Central Florida) The degree of brain damage depends on the amount and duration of
the shaking and the force involved in impact of the head.
Shaken Baby Syndrome is difficult to diagnose, unless someone accurately describes what happens.
Physicians often report that a child with possible Shaken Baby Syndrome is brought for medical
attention due to falls, difficulty breathing, seizures, vomiting, altered consciousness or choking
(Palmer). The caregiver may report that the child was shaken to try to resuscitate it. Physician look for
retinal hemorrhages, (Retinal hemorrhages is bleeding in the retina of the eye), Subdural hematoma
(blood in the brain), increased head size indicating excessive accumulations of fluid in the tissues of
the brain (Palmer). Doctors and physicians also look for damage to the spinal cord, and broken ribs.
This occurs because of the way the baby was held or grasped to hard. Doctors usually get Computed
Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans because they assist in showing
injuries in the brain.
Fifty Thousand cases occur each year in the U.S. (Ramirez, 1996). One shaken baby in four dies as a
result of this abuse (Poissaint amp; Linn, 1997) Approximately 20 percent of cases are fatal in the first

Analysis Of Robert Frost s Poem And The Thawing Wind
In Robert Frost s poem To the Thawing Wind, in the literal sense, he is asking the Southwest wind to
come, melt the snow and bring spring, but symbolically he is tired of the winter and wants warm
weather. He wants to burst out of his cabin and have a good time, not thinking about poetry. The poet
has been confined in his winter cabin and is wanting the wind and rain to melt the snow, so it will
change his winter isolation. He has been longing for the thawing wind because that is when spring is
coming. He is anticipating spring to come because it will bring him inspiration and the freedom
needed to be able to do new things and enjoy everything good that comes with this season. In the
literal sense, Frost speaks to the seasons and describes his distaste for the weather; however,
figuratively he desires to go outside to be a part of the process of spring and feel alive again. In the
first line of Frost s poem, he is ordering the wind to Come with rain, O loud Southwester! Speaking
literally, he is telling the southwest wind to come with rain so it can melt the snow and bring spring.
His use of the word loud means he is asking for the wind to come and wake up his household.
Figuratively, he is wanting spring to come because it will give him the chance to be outside and enjoy
nature. In the next line, he mentions birds when he asks for the wind to Bring the singer, bring the
nester. During spring, birds come and make their nests and sing because of the warmer

The Leadership Practice Of A Nursing Student
As a nursing student, I have had great success forming therapeutic relationships with my clients and
have received positive feedback from clinical instructors about my patient communication. However, I
experience uncertainty when interacting with peers or colleagues. My lack of confidence translates
into difficulty forming effective professional relationships. This assessment is reflected in my Clinical
Leadership Survey as a deficit in the leadership practice of Encouraging the Heart. This practice
includes behaviors such as recognizing contributions, celebrating accomplishments, and providing
feedback (Patrick, Laschinger, Finegan, and Wong, 2011).
The results of my baseline survey support the theory that my weakness is in interprofessional
communication. Alternatively however, I recorded equal strength of fourteen out of fifteen in the other
four leadership practices. Each of these four practices incorporates an element of Emotional
Intelligence and reflective practice. Based on my clinical experiences and feedback from instructors, I
agree with these results and can identify that interprofessional communication is the skill I must
develop to become an effective leader.
Personal Strategies Over the Term
Throughout this semester, I worked through the Unfreeze and Move stages of Lewin s Force Field
Model for change. Similar to the Assessment and Planning steps of the Nursing Process, the
Unfreezing stage occurs when the individual identifies a need for change (Kelly

people could imagine applying to Jim Barton. His energy and outspokenness as head of the Loan
Operations department made him one of IVK s most dynamic executives, a key player and a likely
CEO someday of a different company, if not this one. But the news Williams had conveyed moments
before had left Barton silent, dumbfounded. A few minutes earlier Barton had rushed to William s

down that hallway one at a time, each after receiving a phone call, each on a journey to discover his or

The Inventions from the Bubonic Plague
The bubonic plague, which has gone by many names over the years, has caused millions of deaths and
is still around today. However, after the Plague hit Central Europe, there was a huge increase in
quality of life. Religion was adversely affected as the churches were unable to stop or even slow down
the Plague causing most of the population to lose faith. The economies changed in amazing ways for
peasants with the loss of the feudal system, and life expectancy was improved with the creation of
modern medicine.
What is the Pestilence?
Caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, the bubonic blague, also known as the Black Death and the
Pestilence to Central Europe in the mid 1300s, is named after the buboes that appear on the groin,
armpit, or neck within a week of being infected. Buboes are swollen lymph nodes filled with fluid that
can reach up to the size of a large chicken egg. They are tender to the touch and are black in color. The
onset of symptoms start with a fever and chills and progresses to headache, fatigue, muscle aches, and
a cough that produces blood or sputum. Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer living in Florence in
1348 and said, Soon after this the symptoms changed and black or purple spots appeared on the arms
or thighs or any other part of the body, sometimes a few large ones, sometimes many little ones. These
spots were a certain sign of death, just as the original tumor had been and still remained (Eyewitness
to History, 2001). Most victims of the

The Use Of Adaptive Pressure On Our Memory
ur memory still contain traces from our evolutionary past? To what extent do our operating abilities
involving memory, still prescribe to our distant ancestral selection pressures? These questions have all
been considered, however, the role of adaptive pressures on our memory, have just began to be studied
further by memory researchers. Scholars have attempted to study how our current memory processing
capabilities could have been tailored to achieve specific outcomes from our instinctual past. This
research could be a window into empirical findings that may challenge existing perspectives on
retention. Possibly, even help foster creative memory mnemonics that could assist us in our daily
lives, where memory is concerned. A level of processing is described as the memory recall of stimuli
as a function of the depth of mental processing (McLeod 2007). Levels of processing range from
shallow levels to deeper levels of processing. For example, answering the question Does the word
rhyme with cow? induces a shallow level of processing, whereas answering How pleasant is the word
to you? induces a deep level of processing. Asking if the word is pleasant or not is considered to
invoke a deeper level of processing because it requires the consideration of the meaning of the word
and how you think about that word, while asking whether or not the word rhymes with cow is only
considering the structure or the word in question. Its important to consider these levels, since research

The andragogical model is one s own concept on one s self. | The role the learners experience | Adults
come into an educational activity with both greater volume and a different quality of experience from
that of youths (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). Adults have lived longer than the youth and
therefore their experiences are different. There are some potential effects that are negative in nature
with having greater experience. Mental habits, biases, and presuppositions tend to develop as
experience is accumulated. This may cause one to close their minds to new ideas, fresh perceptions,
and alternative ways of thinking (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). | The difference in the two
models is that is the pedagogical model, the learners experience has little worth. The teachers, the
textbook writer, and the audiovisual aids producer are the only experience that counts. | Readiness to
learn | Adults become ready to learn those things they need to know and be able to do in order to cope
effectively with their real life situations (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). The tasks associated with
progressing from one stage to the next are very rich sources of readiness to learn. One need not wait
around to be ready, there are techniques, such as career counseling, and simulation exercises to help
induce readiness. | In the pedagogical model, if the learner

The World Trade Organization (WTO) deals with the global rules of trade between nations. It is
mainly responsible for ensuring that the trade flows smoothly, predictably and freely. The principal
objective of WTO is upliftment of the standard of living internationally; it does activities surrounding
the same.
When Ministers had adopted the Marrakesh Agreement they had also decided to include a specific
reference to Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Article V: 2. The General Council
additionally clarified the framework for relations with NGOs by adopting a set of guidelines
(WT/L/162) which recognizes the role NGOs can play to increase the awareness of the public in
respect of WTO activities . These guidelines are instrumental for ... Show more content on

NGOs had to demonstrate that their activities were concerned with matters related to those of the

Symposia
Since 1996, a number of symposia have been arranged by the Secretariat for NGOs on particular
issues of interest to civil society, namely, three on trade and the environment, one on trade and
development and one on trade facilitation. These symposia have provided, on a relaxed basis, the
opening for NGOs to discuss certain specific issues with representatives of WTO Member countries.
Day to day Contact
The WTO Secretariat receives a huge number of requests per day from NGOs, from all over the world
and Secretariat staff meets with NGOs on a habitual basis both individually and as a part of NGO
organized events.
The annual report of the World Trade Organization corroborates the growing official relationship
between civil society and trade. Tucked away in a silent corner of the report is the reason that the
number of NGOs attending the WTO ministerial increased many times over, from 108 at the
Singapore ministerial in 1996 to 811 in the Hong Kong ministerial, nine years later.
The growth that occurred in the Seattle ministerial can be attributed to the mobilization of NGOs that
were in fact against the WTO. Indeed, at several points in that ministerial, including its abandoned
inauguration, official NGO delegates attempted to disrupt proceedings.
The role of NGO s in the panel proceedings has been recognized recently but their potential on how

The Importance Of Cancer Cells In Tumours
13It is well documented that many types of tumours contain cancer cells with heterogeneous
phenotypes reflecting aspects of the differentiation that normally occurs in the tissues from which the
tumours arise. The variable expression of normal differentiation markers by cancer cells in a tumour
suggests that some of the heterogeneity in tumours arises as a result of the anomalous differentiation
of tumour cells. Examples of this include the variable expression of myeloid markers in chronic
myeloid leukaemia, the variable expression of neuronal markers within peripheral neurectodermal
tumours, and the variable expression of milk proteins or the oestrogen receptor within breast cancer
For many years researchers have been interested in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Karyotype analyses of parental and clonally derived tumor cells expressed many consistent (clonal),
along with unique chromosomal aberrations, suggesting the presence of chromosomal instability in the
cancer stem cells. Thus, this new model for cancer origin and metastatic progression includes features
of both the hierarchical model for cancerous stem cells and the stochastic model, driven by the
observation of chromosomal instability.
According to the stochastic model, tumor cells are biologically equivalent but their behavior is
influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors and is therefore both variable and unpredictable. Thus,
tumor initiating activity cannot be enriched by sorting cells based on intrinsic characteristics.
A more recent model of cancer, the CSCs Model, covers issues not completely explained by the
Stochastic Theory, such as tumor recurrence after treatment. The CSCs Model states that surviving,
transformed sub clones that form part of tumors have SCs properties that allow them to drive tumor
progression. The CSCs Model is unidirectional in that SCs like cells may generate progenitor daughter
cells (transit amplifying cells) that in turn divide to produce differentiated (nontumorigenic) cells.
Cellular heterogeneity within tumors depends on factors including the already mentioned branching
mutation patterns and on cues from the TME. Thus, the TME can contribute to cell transformation

Write An Essay On The Most Dangerous Game
As I trot the familiar path from the locker room to the stadium, the air begins to thicken and crackle
with static. The sound of cleats scuffing along on the pavement of the track onto the turf, with a faint
cheering off in the distance is not easily recognizable inside the helmet. My heart crescendos its beats

Relationships In Disney s Snow White And The Seven...
Relationships changing in Disney In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the evolution of
relationship expectations portrayed in Disney s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Frozen, and
how closely they mesh with relationship expectations of their time. The movies Snow White and
Frozen seemed like good examples because they have a lot of similarities as well as differences. In
both Disney movies the princess meets a man, but the expectations and interactions between princess
and man are vastly different. They both also have other people in their lives. Snow has the dwarves
and Ana has her sister. Their treatment of them are also vastly different. The men they fall for while
similar in some ways, seem to have different requirements, and different roles for the princess. In
Snow White the Snow and the prince meet, share one song, a kiss and are married. Terri Wright, who
wrote an article on Disney s choice of adapting Snow White talks about how, Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs reflects popular culture of the time through its development of the romantic element
(3). When Snow White came out love was wanted in a relationships but it was not the only factor.
Woman did not work outside the home and didn t move out of their parents house unless they got
married. This is portrayed in the movie with Snow White staying at home to cook and clean up after
the dwarves until the prince comes to take her away.
In Frozen the main princess does have a similar instance of a

Immigrants Come to America During the Gilded Age Essay
1
In the early 1900 s there was a dramatic increase in the number of immigrants coming to the eastern
shores of America. Many were pulled to America because of its economic opportunity, freedom, need
for labor and its beautiful country. Immigrants were excited to come to America and were pushed from
their home countries because of food shortages, overpopulation, war and political instability. This was
going on in an important era in American history called the gilded age . It was a time of economic
growth, and industrialization but also had high percentages of poverty mainly in urban environments.
The majority of the immigrants intended to advance out west but actually settled in the eastern cities.

to work. Since there was no one inspecting the meat at the time, low skilled laborers were forced to

The meat would be shoveled into carts, and the man who did the shoveling would not trouble to lift

a poisoned rat was a tidbit. There was no place for the men to wash their hands before they ate their

Under the system of rigid economy, which the packers enforced, there were some jobs that it only paid

Henrietta, Deborah, and Day. First of all, this central idea is formed in Henrietta being used for

Aboriginal Rights in Canada
There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict can
be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal and non
aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European settlement of
Canada (UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights to land, sea and
resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada (UBC Law, 2009).
Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of
1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals (UBC
Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish relations with
the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was Crown
recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North Americas
new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision was made. The
provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in Canada from the
Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus, the original Royal
Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British Sovereignty.
However, despite British attempts to cement Aboriginal rights, the colonial governments did not
necessarily cooperate. In

Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens
September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows, September
11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone around the world.
The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every nationality. I don t think
that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is something that should have never
happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can tell you that they remember exactly
what they were doing and where they were on September 11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we
were just too young to remember the devastating events that happened on this day. Even though it may
seem as though many people lost their lives in these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds
and thousands were saved. However, weeks after thousands were estimated dead. What is the worst

paper did not really fall from the Twin Towers, it was people. So for that reason we should not let the

that Wallace Stevens is basically saying take your focus from the secondary to the primary. With the
Twin Towers, nobody wanted to accept that it happened and people jumped to their death but we had
to realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that Melinda Hoffman used many objects and
symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened. If you take the time and observe, modernism

The Middle Ages, also known as the Medieval era, though scarred with a history of violence and war,
has given the world some of the most marvelous and beautiful pieces of art, particularly in
architecture. The Middle Ages is the name given to the time period from the late 5th century to the
15th century, particular to European history. The construction of these types of buildings was a
constant for various cultures for a thousand years. They can be categorized into three phases; Pre
Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic. The most important buildings during medieval times were
religious, defensive and governmental or power related.

Much of the architecture in the Romanesque era evolved into Gothic architecture. The Gothic era ran
from the 12th century into the 16th century. There wasn t necessarily a clean break from Romanesque
to Gothic styles of architecture, but rather a gradual shift in design. The main characteristics of Gothic
architecture are the pointed ribbed vaults and arches, flying buttresses and, in place of solid walls, a
cluster of columns. Due to the vertical emphasis of the design, the archways could be redesigned and
stretched or pointed. Four main Figure 5 The depressed arch supported by fan vaulting at King s

supporting the weight of the ceiling through the columns and flying buttresses, there was no need for
walls made of heavy materials. With all the columns and archways in place, the structure took on a
skeletal look. This gave way to expanding the once small openings for windows to an expanse of
window space providing plenty of light to the interior of the structure. This space was commonly

Joe Dimaggio Essay
Joe DiMaggio
Joe DiMaggio was one of the best baseball players of all time. He set many records, including the
longest wining streak in Major League Baseball history, it lasted 56 games. He came to America as the
son of poor Italian immigrants, but grew up to be an American Icon.
Joseph Paul DiMaggio was born on November 25, 1914. His parents were Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio
and Rosalie DiMaggio. He had three brothers and three sisters. His brothers were Michael DiMaggio,
Tom DiMaggio, and Vince DiMaggio. His sisters were Dominic, Nellie, and Marie DiMaggio. His

The Yankees bought DiMaggio in 1936. That season a high school class in Cincinnati was asked to
name the greatest American of all time. George Washington finished second, DiMaggio finished first.
Abraham Lincoln placed third.
During his career Joe DiMaggio played in nine World Series. In 1946, Rosalie DiMaggio died.
DiMaggio hit way below his normal average, hitting only .290. That was his career low in batting
average. The next spring, in 1947, he was almost traded for Ted Williams. The Boston Red socks also
asked for Yogi Berra in a trade. The Yankees turned down both. Yogi Berra was also a great player. Joe
DiMaggio won his third MVP in his career and hit two home runs in the World Series that year. The
New York Yankees won the World Series in 1947. On February 7, 1949, DiMaggio became the first
$100,000 ballplayer in Major League Baseball History. They Yankees were doing excellent, but
unfortunately, in a game before the end of that season, Joe severely injured his

This is why we have people that are very wealthy which are referred to as the upper class and there is the middle class that makes an average income, and the bottom of the income bracket lies the people in poverty. Poverty is a condition in which a person or family does not have the means to satisfy basic needs for food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. • 4. Fairy Tales By The Grimm Brothers Originally, fairy tales were used to teach children social norms or cultural beliefs within a society, instead of primarily being used as entrainment. Fairy tales are also known to guide children to accept the traditional stereotypes of being female and male, as they typically reinforce the idea that women would be more desirable if they are not only obedient, but pure and beautiful as well. The view of women as a lessor sex is also a common belief in a patriarchal society, which is commonly found in most fairy tales. The ideas which fairy tales reinforce needs to be challenged. Written by the Grimm brothers, the two fairy tales Little Snow White {1819} and Little Briar Rose {1812} will be analysed, along with Hans Christian Andersen s ... The film also displays an attitude that it is perfectly acceptable for a beautiful woman to fall in love with an ugly beast, but there is no indication that it is okay for a handsome man to fall for an ugly woman. The film also displays woman solely in the private sphere, and the one occasion where Belle leaves it, she has to be rescued. This indicates the idea that once a woman leaves the comforts of home, she has to require the services of man to ensure her safety. Aside from the enchantress, all other female character are shown as silly and selfish. The film also displays the idea that if one does not conform to societies guidelines and values, then they will be deemed as an outcast. Throughout the beginning of the film it is clear to the reader that Belle is very intelligent, and possesses qualities which are typically reserved for male characters, such as being adventures, reading, and inventing. Despite her obvious intelligence, the villagers deem her as an outcast due to her overall longing for adventure. This reinforces the thinking that intelligent females are a rarity, and to be something to be tolerated, but not encouraged. This is shown when the villagers attempt to foil her ideas, ... From the conquests of the Americas by the Europeans to traditional isolationist views in Asia, one could sufficiently argue this period in history as being the catalyst that ushered in the interdependent society enjoyed by those who presently inhabit the earth. Furthermore, the integration of people and cultures led to numerous indispensable discoveries of goods in foreign lands. There had been bitter conflict in the years prior to the rise in popularity of fine china in Europe between the Dutch and Spanish. This fact is exemplified in the line, . . . Being Portugal was in alliance with the Spanish made their vessels fair game to be apprehended at sea by the Dutch. This occurred with the Dutch occupying the two Portuguese ships; San Iago and Santa Catarina. Thus, it was by domination that the inaugural shipments of fine china made its way to the Dutch country. Explaining the arrival of the acquired Portuguese goods in Amsterdam, Brooks writes, Onto the docks of that city emerged the first great trove of china to reach Holland, and buyers from all over Europe fought for a piece (Brooks 63). • 6. How Reiki Changed My Life Reiki energy has had a profound effect on different areas of my life. For starters, I normally offer myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the best of me. I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. The first swimsuit competition was held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently, there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant , contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes, forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls. ... Not everyone is respected the same due to their physical features: skin color, texture of hair, and body type. An open society helps individuals to respect for diversity, to promote inclusion, to support for national and global initiatives dedicated to eliminating disparities, and to create open, healthy societies. In order to be an open society, one must have an open mind of co workers and patients and self discipline to laws. An open society is considered to be utopia (Nyswander, 1985). Health systems are not an open society, but are always working to improve and striving to become an open society. In an open society, people need to always brainstorm new goals to help the system to improve. Goals are mainly accomplished when everyone works together comfortably. With this, the Prince throws a masquerade. Instead of seeing what was right in front of them, they were too caught up in things that they could not see. With this, Poe shows how the room started in the eastern extremity, just as the sun rises from the east, and is blue just as blue symbolizes life. Poe also writes, The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung down the walls (84). In this quote, he shows how the last room was black, which symbolizes death. • 13. Analysis Of Robert Frost s Poem And The Thawing Wind In Robert Frost s poem To the Thawing Wind, in the literal sense, he is asking the Southwest wind to come, melt the snow and bring spring, but symbolically he is tired of the winter and wants warm weather. He wants to burst out of his cabin and have a good time, not thinking about poetry. The poet has been confined in his winter cabin and is wanting the wind and rain to melt the snow, so it will change his winter isolation. He has been longing for the thawing wind because that is when spring is coming. He is anticipating spring to come because it will bring him inspiration and the freedom needed to be able to do new things and enjoy everything good that comes with this season. In the literal sense, Frost speaks to the seasons and describes his distaste for the weather; however, figuratively he desires to go outside to be a part of the process of spring and feel alive again. In the first line of Frost s poem, he is ordering the wind to Come with rain, O loud Southwester! Speaking literally, he is telling the southwest wind to come with rain so it can melt the snow and bring spring. His use of the word loud means he is asking for the wind to come and wake up his household. Figuratively, he is wanting spring to come because it will give him the chance to be outside and enjoy nature. The economies changed in amazing ways for peasants with the loss of the feudal system, and life expectancy was improved with the creation of modern medicine. What is the Pestilence? Caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, the bubonic blague, also known as the Black Death and the Pestilence to Central Europe in the mid 1300s, is named after the buboes that appear on the groin, armpit, or neck within a week of being infected. To what extent do our operating abilities involving memory, still prescribe to our distant ancestral selection pressures? These questions have all been considered, however, the role of adaptive pressures on our memory, have just began to be studied further by memory researchers. Scholars have attempted to study how our current memory processing capabilities could have been tailored to achieve specific outcomes from our instinctual past. This research could be a window into empirical findings that may challenge existing perspectives on retention. Possibly, even help foster creative memory mnemonics that could assist us in our daily lives, where memory is concerned. A level of processing is described as the memory recall of stimuli as a function of the depth of mental processing (McLeod 2007). Levels of processing range from shallow levels to deeper levels of processing. For example, answering the question Does the word rhyme with cow? induces a shallow level of processing, whereas answering How pleasant is the word to you? induces a deep level of processing. Asking if the word is pleasant or not is considered to invoke a deeper level of processing because it requires the consideration of the meaning of the word and how you think about that word, while asking whether or not the word rhymes with cow is only considering the structure or the word in question. • 23. The Importance Of Cancer Cells In Tumours 13It is well documented that many types of tumours contain cancer cells with heterogeneous phenotypes reflecting aspects of the differentiation that normally occurs in the tissues from which the tumours arise. The variable expression of normal differentiation markers by cancer cells in a tumour suggests that some of the heterogeneity in tumours arises as a result of the anomalous differentiation of tumour cells. Examples of this include the variable expression of myeloid markers in chronic myeloid leukaemia, the variable expression of neuronal markers within peripheral neurectodermal tumours, and the variable expression of milk proteins or the oestrogen receptor within breast cancer For many years researchers have been interested in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karyotype analyses of parental and clonally derived tumor cells expressed many consistent (clonal), along with unique chromosomal aberrations, suggesting the presence of chromosomal instability in the cancer stem cells. Thus, this new model for cancer origin and metastatic progression includes features of both the hierarchical model for cancerous stem cells and the stochastic model, driven by the observation of chromosomal instability. According to the stochastic model, tumor cells are biologically equivalent but their behavior is influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors and is therefore both variable and unpredictable. Thus, tumor initiating activity cannot be enriched by sorting cells based on intrinsic characteristics. A more recent model of cancer, the CSCs Model, covers issues not completely explained by the Stochastic Theory, such as tumor recurrence after treatment. The CSCs Model states that surviving, transformed sub clones that form part of tumors have SCs properties that allow them to drive tumor progression. The CSCs Model is unidirectional in that SCs like cells may generate progenitor daughter cells (transit amplifying cells) that in turn divide to produce differentiated (nontumorigenic) cells. Cellular heterogeneity within tumors depends on factors including the already mentioned branching mutation patterns and on cues from the TME. Thus, the TME can contribute to cell transformation Plasticity another characteristic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My heart crescendos its beats per second as I get a glimpse of the visiting team. Relationships changing in Disney In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the evolution of relationship expectations portrayed in Disney s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Frozen, and how closely they mesh with relationship expectations of their time. The movies Snow White and Frozen seemed like good examples because they have a lot of similarities as well as differences. In both Disney movies the princess meets a man, but the expectations and interactions between princess and man are vastly different. They both also have other people in their lives. Snow has the dwarves and Ana has her sister. Their treatment of them are also vastly different. The men they fall for while similar in some ways, seem to have different requirements, and different roles for the princess. In Snow White the Snow and the prince meet, share one song, a kiss and are married. Terri Wright, who wrote an article on Disney s choice of adapting Snow White talks about how, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs reflects popular culture of the time through its development of the romantic element (3). • 31. Aboriginal Rights in Canada There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict can be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal and non aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European settlement of Canada (UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights to land, sea and resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada (UBC Law, 2009). Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of 1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish relations with the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was Crown recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North Americas new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision was made. The provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in Canada from the Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus, the original Royal Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British Sovereignty.
