Globalization And Its Impact On Modern Society
Since the early 1990 s, the term globalization has become a bit of a buzzword, prevalent in the speech
of policy makers, popular press, and academic journals. It is used frequently to describe the .... . Its
consistent use has led many people to a certain understanding of it most basic meaning, but it is an
immensely complex concept that can not be truly understood at the top layer of meaning which is
prevalent among general society. There are multiple varying definitions for the globalization
phenomenon.
Many people argue that the process of globalization has contributed to a metaphorical flattening of our
world, destroying absolute spatial differentiation. The hyperglobalist economists believe that we have
come to live in a global village society in which is close to the destruction of spatial differentiation
and thus, the study of geography. The idea is that our differences are declining and our culture is
homogenizing. However, this belief relies on the assumption that modern globalization mechanisms
can be considered completely global. It is difficult to refute the argument that there are currently
millions of people who have not seen or been affected by even the most fundamental advancements
and compression that go along with globalization. Looking meticulously at the geographical
distribution of the causes and effects of...contemporary processes of economic globalization shows
that there is in fact a clear differentiation of these processes along recognizable and

The Existence of a God Essay
The Existence of a God
Throughout history, the worship of gods has been a part of daily life even amidst those cultures that
have been considered savage . The reactions, movement, existence, comparisons, purposes, and
common beliefs of the world show that there must be a god. The existence of a god is an irrefutable
fact. Sir Isaac Newton stated that every action has a reaction. Therefore every reaction is formed from
an action which #8364;in and of itself is a reaction to a previous action. If this theory is followed far
enough back, there must be an original action, something that starts all actions, and causes all
reactions. Since nothing can cause its own action, because to do so would mean that it would have to

Once again, by following this path to its origin one will find that something must always have existed
in order for anything further to exist because for something to exist, it will one day cease to exist and
in order for it to cease to exist it must at one point not have existed. Thus it must have been created
since that which does not exist comes into being by something that exists (Knowledge, 134). And, as
we saw in relation to movers and to causes, so we cannot but postulate the existence of some being
having of itself its own existence and not receiving it from another, but rather causing in others their
existence. Thus, one may observe evidence of the existence of god . Comparisons between things
using more or less show that there must be something to which the thing is being compared. To say
that something is better than something else which is good is to show that one has the extreme
resemblance of the most . Thus, there must be a being that is the most good, something to which
everything is compared. As the ultimate good would likely be found in a perfect being, and it is said
that god is perfect , than this ultimate good must be the supreme being which is known as god . Thus
for the comparisons to be used and found to be truthful, there must be a god. The purposes for which
things exist also provide proof of the existence of god . Everything acts with a purpose

The Case of Phar Mor Inc
ACCT 525
October 31, 2012
Case Summary
The case of Phar Mor Inc was one of the biggest pre Enron frauds that have been uncovered. Phar Mor
Inc established in 1982 Phar Mor was a small little known discount drugstore. Phar Mor became well
known for offering medications at a 25 40% discount rate compared to your normal pharmacy store
prices. Phar Mor s first six years of existence seemingly were fraud free and saw the company grow at
a decent pace for their field. By 1987 Phar Mor almost had 100 stores and was expanding even more
rapidly at this point.
The first hint of fraud came up and was discovered being a billing type scheme ... Show more content

At the time of discovery Phar Mor was overstated by over a $150 million dollars and had no other

Could SOX have prevented the Phar Mor fraud? How? Which specific sections of SOX?
During the time period that the Phar Mor fraud took place it was one of the most elaborate frauds of
the 1980 s so could SOX prevented the fraud? The answer is debatable because of the extent that Phar
Mor went to cover up the fraud it may have taken several years still to uncover it however, in the long
run I do believe SOX would have prevented the fraud from lasting almost a full decade without being
detected, and would not have been uncovered had it not been for a whistle blower. I think the most
important sections of SOX that would have helped uncover the fraud at Phar Mor are as follows
Section 203 Which deals with the auditors and any possible conflict of interest if they had worked
with Phar Mor in the last calendar year they would have not been able to be the same auditors doing
final audits of the company.
Section 206 Which states that any auditor who had previously worked for the firm and now works for
Phar Mor would cause the firm to not be able to have Phar Mor as a client. Phar Mor had 3 former
employees of the audit firm who worked for them which allowed them the knowledge to know that the

Analysis Of Darius Milhaud, A French Composer
When Africans were sold as slaves to Central and South America in the 16th and 17th centuries, they
continued to make marimbas there. The instruments underwent further development on the American
continent, especially in Mexico, Guatemala and Brazil ( Marimbaphone , 2003). In these countries the
calabashes were replaced by precisely tuned wood resonator chambers.
In Latin America, the name marimba refers to every kind of large xylophone with calabashes as
resonators of the type that originated from Africa. The name marimba was eventually applied to the
concert and orchestra instrument that had been inspired by the Latin American model ( Marimbaphone
, 2003). Darius Milhaud, a French composer, made the marimba popular and gave it ... Show more

Steel Drum. The steel drum is a skillfully hammered 55 gallon oil barrel which has been carefully
tuned by hand to produce perfect musical tones ( Steel Pan History , 2017). It was developed on the
Caribbean island of Trinidad during the early years of the 20th century. Old rubbish tins, care parts,
and garbage can lids formed the first Iron Bands , which led to the realization that a dented section of
a barrel head could produce a musical note. Careful refinement of this discovery produced the modern
steel drum that is now often seen being played by street musicians.
Conclusion
Percussion has evolved throughout its history into what it is today. Melodic instruments have several
origins, the two main origins being Eastern Asia and Africa. In each culture their first intended use
was for religion and war. Melodic percussion instruments, like most instruments, are now used for less
serious events than their original uses. Rather than being linked to war and religion, a majority of
melodic percussion is used for entertainment. Along with the change of melodic percussion s
contributions in war and religion, comes the advancement melodic percussion has made for
entertainment. Today they are played in most places around the world in ensembles or even on streets
during street performances. Although the instruments belonging to melodic percussion can be played
and enjoyed on their own, the main purpose of a melodic percussion instrument now usually lies

The Veldt by Ray Bradbury
Were there lions in the room? Ray Bradbury was raised in a small town in Illinois. He gets the setting
for many of his stories from Green Town. When Bradbury was young, he spent time listening to the
radio and going to the library. He received inspiration from a magician, Mr. Electrico. Bradbury wrote
many science fiction books and short stories. Some of his most famous works include Fahrenheit 451,
The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way, and more. The Veldt is about a family who
lives in a technological house. The parents, George and Lydia Hadley, bought the house because they
wanted the best for their children, Wendy and Peter. The house does all of the normal activities people
do for themselves, such as tying their shoes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the realistic part of the nursery. It was real for the reader as well as the characters in the
story. Imagery also shows the family situation at home. George and Lydia only want the best for their
children, however sometimes they give in too much. That sounds dreadful...And brush my own teeth
and comb my hair and give myself a bath? (Bradbury). Peter was afraid that he would actually have to
do work. This describes how spoiled they are at home. Moreover, his description of the veldt also
conveys an atmosphere of menace and hostility mirroring the psychological state of the Hadley family
(Bernardo). This shows how the family has trouble getting along with each other because of the
hostility caused by the veldt. Lastly, it portrays the dreamlike quality of the house. They describe the
room as being easy to dream. How often had he seen Pegasus flying in the sky ceiling, or seen
fountains of red fireworks, or heard angel voices singing (Bradbury). This also shows that the children
enjoy going into the nursery to dream very often. Hence, the story has an air of unreality about it as if
it were simply a child s daydream of a world in which children have the power and competence given
to adults and adults have the helplessness of children (Bernardo). The nursery depicts a dreamlike
quality and it gives the children the freedom to live in a world they would imagine. Imagery helps
move the plot further along in the story. The

A Paper On Tattoo Culture
Maddie Edwards
Humorous Discourse
Foundations Paper
Tattoo Culture When defining a term it first has to be understood, which is why American studies can
be incredibly difficult to define. Although using different ways of studying popular culture, in this
case tattoo culture, a better understanding of American studies can be formed. Specifically by using
the ideas of researching context to understand the time and surrounding area, self reflexivity to
understand how oneself is affected by this, and studying how the material and visual cultures of
everyday lives. Tattoos are one of these forms of popular culture, and the culture surrounding tattoos
exemplifies many of the characteristics of American Studies. When studying tattoo culture context is
significantly important, because a majority of the time this art form means something to the
individual. As Nash Smith discusses literary analysis only gives us part of the information that is
necessary in understanding where ideas stem from and how they became relevant. He also talks about
how the informations gathered from these sources needs to be interpreted in the light of a thorough
knowledge of class structure, of the stratification of taste according to levels of sophistication, and of
the different audiences in which different magazines and publishing houses addressed themselves. 1
While tattoos are not regulated by publishing houses and different magazines it is still helpful to
interrupt them based on the environment.

Jury System
The Jury System
CLU 3M1
By: Khalil Meghji
The jury system has been used for thousands of years to fairly determine innocence or guilt in a trial.
Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil cases. This
leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the ancient Greeks
thousands of years ago[1]. Though the system was the fairest way to produce a verdict, it cannot apply
today because society has endured a change which taints the foundation of a fair trial by jury. Juries
are much more open to tampering by interested parties through which can be undetected by the ...

This can alter the impact of evidence or testimony and the juror cannot make an informed decision.
The jury is not familiar with the law which can lead to confusion about different legal terms, what
evidence is considered circumstantial and how to exclude that from their decision after seeing it in
court. A jury comprised of the general public are also much more open to being influenced by how a
lawyer presents their case and not by evidence. Since the jury does not have any knowledge of
forensics they can be influenced by expert witnesses put on the stand by both the defense and the
prosecution which are completely contradictory.
The jury system has been used for thousands of years however, there are more logical and economical
methods to judge innocence or guilt fairly. While the jury system is not only taxing on the government
s resources it is also very difficult for the juror s. A juror in Canada is not compensated for trials under
10 days, if a trial runs from 11 49 days they get forty dollars a day, after 49 days the juror s receive
one hundred dollars per day[6]. To put a working citizen in the position of losing up to ten days pay to
serve in jury duty is very difficult. Being put into jury duty potentially carries other costs such as
childcare and transportation which is not covered by the government.
The jury system has been in use for thousands of years and has produced many fair verdicts. This

Bad Girls Don T Die Essay
Ghosts or spirits are scary in movies. They make someone jump but, imagine being possessed by an
evil one. That is what my book Bad Girls Don t Die By: Katie Alender was about. Just to give a small
idea about the book, a high school girl is living the normal life when her little sister, Kasey, gets
possessed by a spirit in her home. The spirit tries to kill a cheerleader going to Alexis s high school.
They decided to go after the spirit and try to kill it. Throughout the entire book, they find different
evidence of who the spirit is and what happened. The author wrote the book giving emotions of scare
or terror, frightened or startled, and disgust. To do so she used lots of words and examples that you
would see in horror movies. But instead of a horror movie, it was a horror novel. Has anyone ever
changed their attitude or the way they acted? Did it scare you? One way that the author showed this to
be in the horror genre is throughout the book there was many parts that gave someone terror or made
someone scared. One way she did this was having Kasey be possessed. In ... Show more content on

die on the piece of notebook paper. Then there was the showing of how Megan s mom died. Katie
showed the entire death of Megan s mom and what truly happened to her. There was also the spirit s
death which was told twice in the story. Then the almost death of Alexis at the end of the book. So as
you are reading the book, you find lots of death and it gives you the vomiting feeling of nausea.

Dedication And Dedication Of Dedication
Bryce Curtis Mr. Moore Senior English December 14, 2015 Dedication Have you ever wanted to just
give up on something or just wish you had never started it in the first place? We ve all experienced this
feeling at least once in our lifetime. I have felt this through the thick and thin of my school career, and
sadly I have tended to be the one who wants to gives up a lot more often than I d like to admit.
However, it is always the fear of failing, and in my case, not graduating that reignites my dedication in
order to succeed. Dedication is when you absolutely devote yourself to something, doing whatever it
takes to keep pursuing your goal. It s more than a pursuit, it s a passionate perseverance. In order to be
good at something, truly good at it, you have to be dedicated to it. It s more than trying to achieve the
impossible, just so you can be the best. Everyone has that one thing that they are dedicated to. When
you are dedicated, you don t care about the parties, or going out with your friends; you will stay at
home on a Saturday night to accomplish your goal. Dedication is what leads you to success. Without
it, you will never succeed. However, dedication doesn t always kick in right away. For example, my

Analysis Of 2016 At T
Over the course of 2016 AT T has found itself at the center of many business and news articles.
However, they are not stories of praise or of the bright future that AT T faces but yet stories of concern
and challenges that lie ahead for the large world renowned telecommunication company. Here we will
take a deeper dive into the growing concerns of AT T and form an environmental analysis of the three
most significant factors, in my opinion that AT T is currently or will face in the near future.
One of the biggest concerns for AT T falls into the category of Threat of Substitution and is the same
concern that many other cable companies have and that is the waves and waves of cord cutters that are

only positive that AT T can take away from this is that almost every other cable company is facing the

differentiated services.
Another looming concern posing a threat to AT T ties in with the first concern of AT T s new cable
plan through Direct TV, Direct TV Now and the free streaming feature the service offers. Federal
regulators raised new concerns about AT T Inc. s practice of excluding its new DirecTV Now
streaming service from data charges and, for the first time, lobbed similar questions at Verizon

mobile video services not affiliated with the carriers, such as those from Netflix Inc. or Hulu, which is

1.3 Analyse how national and local guidelines, policies, and procedures for safeguarding affect day to
day work with children and young people
The Government set out legislation and laws for the safeguarding of children and this is passed on to
organisations on a local level for settings to access on a more personal level. This means the setting
has access to a more tailored support that they might benefit from, as well as working with
professionals who are more familiar with the setting in question.
The Suffolk Safeguarding Board is an informative website where all safeguarding policies and
procedures can be accessed. A setting could use this information as guidelines for writing their own
policies and be certain they are implementing information from a national level for use on the ground.
The list of policies they offer include working with children in need to mental health and fostering,
among many other topics, all under the umbrella of safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Its aim is to

Global Warming And Its Impact On Our Earth
In many parts of the world, there are an abundance of factors that add to the destruction of our Earth.
These issues include air, water, and environmental problems that we, as a global society, contribute to
everyday. These concerns create major impacts that pertains to much of the globe and the world in
which we inhabit today, compared to the world we lived in 50 years ago. Frequent statements that
contribute to the overall thought of global warming include the following: how the community
supplies detrimental factors to the Earth to cause global warming, and how can the community
contribute to the repair of our vanishing Earth. Global warming is a serious issue facing everyone on
our Earth. There are ways to decrease this threat, but if they are not implemented soon, there will be
irrevocable consequences to our Earth. This topic needs to be addressed immediately in order to
preserve what we have left of our Earth.
Global warming is the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere (Bradford). This
issue has been a constant worry around the world for as long as the world has been around, along with
humans occupying it. Many people tend to believe that global warming is an issue that cannot be
solved. However, this is a false accusation about the overall health and condition of our world, due to
how society views global warming. Global warming affects our entire world. Air, water, and
environmental factors are basic key points in regards to this global

The Cost Of A Large French Fry
Fries are one of the many trademark foods of McDonald s restaurants, with millions of people
flocking to their local McDonald s every day to enjoy the delectable potato side dish. The fries are
also quite cheap only costing $1.39 for a small, or $2.29 for a large at McDonald s in the United States
(not including tax), making them a very desirable purchase. However, many may ask themselves if
they are receiving an amount of fries that makes the low price actually low, especially when looking at
the almost one dollar difference between a large and small french fry. This reasoning inspired me to
investigate; I wanted to see if the higher cost of a large french fry is justifiable. My question lead me
to coming up with the idea of purchasing large and small fries, counting the number of fries, then
calculating the average cost per fry. I then hypothesized that large fries are actually not the greatest
bargain because it costs more per fry than a small. In numeric terms, H0:L=Svs. Ha:L S 0 where L=
the true mean cost per fry for a large french fry at the Waukee location, and S= the true mean cost per
fry for a small fry at the Waukee location. It is necessary to collect raw data in order to draw
conclusions, so, for this population an observational study was used to obtain data. The collection
process is actually quite simple, as McDonald s french fries are all that are needed. However, around
fifteen samples of large and small fries is the recommended minimum number of

Yolo Bypass Wildlife Environment
For almost as long as humans have been on Earth, we have changed landscapes drastically to suit our
needs, historically often without regard to the damage caused in the process. This has changed over
time, with the passing of legislation like the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act, the
creation of national and state parks, and efforts being made to restore degraded ecosystems. While we
may never see perfect natural systems again, especially in areas heavily populated by humans,
reconciliation is possible. Reconciliation ecology takes the concepts of restoration ecology, in which
managers seek to restore an ecosystem to how it used to be at a particular time, and combines them
with inevitable human presence. It uses these factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While providing a source of money needed to accomplish management programs at the YBWA, the
rice fields also provide a food source for ducks and temporary habitat for waterfowl, as the fields are
re flooded post harvest. This is a vast improvement from the previous strategy of burning the fields
post harvest, as that was a source of air pollution. Most of the 15,000 acres of the YBWA is
inaccessible to recreational hikers, though there are a few trails scattered throughout. Provided hikers
are conscientious, their impact is likely to be minimal and come incidentally from car runoff. Most of
the species I saw at the YBWA seemed to not mind the presence of cars or hikers much, though the
blackbirds continuously flushed as I hiked along the parking lot C trail. Hunting impacts individual
ducks immediately, but may be compensatory. In addition to these uses of the YBWA, the ecosystem

Relationship Between Adam And Eve
Humans are an extraordinary creation by God. Adam, is seen as the leader and dominant figure, due to
being the first man in human existence created by such a supreme and mysterious power. Then the
Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and
the man became a living being (Holy Bible NRSV Gen. 2.7). God then creates animals as fellow
companions for Adam, as well as Eve, made out of Adam s rib, so that he can have a helper suited for
him. Eve is not seen as submissive to him, as her gesture is out of kindness, similar to how God helps
his own people. Innumerable critical readers, tend to postulate ideas of gender stratification in the
creation story using the logic of domination. Factors such as assumption of domination and value
dualism (Warren, 32), formulate an apprehension of the relationship between Adam and Eve in the
Genesis story. The proposal of a dominant and subordinate sex, is exhibited by their attitudes that
result in their misguided decisions. In the beginning of the book of Genesis, the concern for Eve being
created last, displays subordination based on the chronological sequence. On the other hand, a literary
analyst would know that the last, means the first, the beginning and ending is equivalent as with man
and woman. She is not a postscript to this creation story, but solely the pinnacle of the development of
human kind. Another aspect that makes man and woman equal are the delicate materials God creates
them from. God creates Adam from dust, where his life hangs by a breath that is out of his control,
making him remain and silent and passive. The rib of Adam from which Eve comes from, portrays
unity and egalitarianism. Before the establishment of Eve, God would address Adam as adham
meaning male and female. The male and female connect and depend on one another. Eve was sent to
be a helper towards Adam. It is not good that adham should be alone; I will make a helper fit for him
(Trible, 141).Conveyed in the Old Testament, God is seen as a helper to Israel, someone who loves
and saves his people. This gives a disadvantage to man, as Adam will rely on Eve to make decisions,
such as eating the forbidden fruit from

Group Communication And Group Analysis
Within the groups that I have been facilitating, as well as individual meetings, I have been very
mindful of my communication with those whom I have been interacting with. I am constantly working
to use open ended questions, being reflective and summarizing what I hear. The group topics that I
choose are on a multitude of subjects. When considering what groups to hold I take into consideration
the topic I feel they would benefit from, I speak with staff and get input from them as well as the
clients who participate in the groups. I follow the same routine with topics that I present to individuals
as well. I feel that the individuals as well as the groups will be more receptive and engaged when they
are interested in the topics. I personally

Essay on Humorous Wedding Toast by the Bride s Brother
Humorous Wedding Toast by the Bride s Brother
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.
Firstly, on behalf of the bridesmaids, I d like to thank Mike for his kind words and reiterate how
wonderful they look and what a fantastic job they have done today. I would also like to say that Sallie
looks stunning as I m sure you ll all agree. Which really isn t that much of a surprise given we are
related.
Sallie is of course my sister, so I ve known her much longer than I ve known Mike. But I have been
sternly warned not to delve into any of her terrible past relationships, her horrible pre and post teen
attitude, her early problems with alcohol and the short spell she spent in a Singapore jail for drug
trafficking. Instead, all I ll say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So just who is this man Sallie is marrying?
Well, he is a highly responsible executive ... he s responsible for lower profits, he s responsible for
inefficiency and he s responsible for a terrible corporate scandal.
Previous to this he attended Exeter University. I have very little material with regard to Mike s 3 years
as a student there, and everybody I ve spoken to has no memory of it either including Mike. He did
return an excellent poker (snooker) player though.
He s also a very keen golfer and is a member of a club. But sadly, he is not blessed with the natural
ability to play the game well. On one occasion, following a very disappointing round with me, he
asked the club professional for some tips and pointers. After observing his swing, he advised Mike to
cut 6 inches off the length of his clubs. Thinking that he had been struggling all these years with the
wrong equipment, Mike asked why. He replied, The smaller clubs will fit in the trashcan (dustbin)
better!
Above all else, though, Mike is perhaps the only person who could possibley make an honest woman
out of my sister. So, I think I speak for my parents when I say, Thank you!
Seriously, Sallie has given me, and all my family, some incredibly happy moments over the years. And
Mike, you fit right in with our family. Welcome! You bring happiness to Sallie, and for that we thank
you.
Now Mike, some people will tell you that marriage is a 50/50 partnership. I don t know who made

Indo European Societies
The Indo European and Bantu peoples were great societies who advanced well during their years. The
articles, The Indo European Migrations and Bantu Migrations and Early Agricultural Societies of sub
Saharan Africa both featured in the book In Traditions and Encounters: A Global Perspective on the
Past by (Jerry Bentley) both explicate information about the two societies. Additional information will
also be applied by the book, World Civilizations: The Global Experience by (Peter N. Stearns).
Although the Bantu and Indo European Societies were in different locations, common similarities
occurred which allowed both societies to advance.
The Indo Europeans started off in their homeland, Eastern Europe (Ukraine and southern Russia) and

According to Bantu Migrations and Early Agricultural Societies of sub Saharan Africa the Bantus
shared a common language, although differentiated, this unified them as a society; likewise, the Indo
Europeans also shared a common language that had been branched off into different subgroups. The
article also reveals to us that After about 1000 BCE... Bantu peoples began to produce iron tools and
weapons, (Pg.6); According to the article The Indo European Migrations , the Hittites in the Indo
European migration had also used iron to produce tools and weapons. Over time, agriculture became
more popular in Bantu speaking regions and was combined with pastoralism; in relation, the Indo
Europeans also included agriculture and pastoralism in their society. According to the account Bantu

The Appeal of the Mystery Genre Essay
Question One: At the beginning of the semester I wrote in my personal information handout that I felt
what made the mystery genre stand apart from all other genres was its ability to keep the
reader/watcher on the edge of their seat wanting more information. That mysteries are unpredictable,
making the reader/watcher stay until the end because they must know the ending. I still feel this way,
but my understanding of this concept has certainly evolved and sharpened. First and foremost, the
concept of keeping the audience on the edge of their seat wanting more is driven by epistemic
sequencing. This concept, described by Talmy, is the idea of who knows what when and is very crucial
to the mystery genre and in keeping the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states in Chapter One, Part Four, for one thing, we know that narrative in all its forms is a dialectic
between what was expected and what came to pass. For there to be a story, something unforeseen must
happen (15). Unforeseen is the key word in this quote by Burner and is crucial to the mystery genre.
Within mystery twists and turns occur, red herrings take the audience down the wrong path, and the
audience plays detective, but for it to be a true mystery, something unforeseen must occur. This
unforeseen occurrence is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seat and coming back for more.
It is common knowledge that the detectives cannot find the murderer only 20 minutes into the episode
or 50 pages into the book and while the audience certainly enjoys being correct when the killer is
revealed, continuously being correct would ruin the allure of the genre. It is stories such as The
Murders in Rue Morgue by Edgar Allen Poe that keep the readers on their feet with the unforeseen.
When first reading Poe s story, I would have never guessed that an orangutang committed the murder
and I am sure many other readers felt the same way, which draws us into the story. Further, Stockwell
s concept of cognitive deixis also plays an important role in keeping the audience on the edge of their
seat. Their are five types of cognitive

Theme Of Homes In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald clearly describes Tom and Gatsby s homes in a way that shows their love and
loyalty to Daisy. When introduced to Tom s house though a mansion, it was almost empty, We walked
through a high hallway into a bright rosy colored space....twisting them up toward the frosted wedding
cake ceiling.....The only completely stationary object in the room was an enormous couch (12). In the
fragment sentences we read that in a enormous room with a vaulted ceiling and enormous space sits
only a couch in the room. An object to sit upon maybe recline, but just the bare minimum does Tom
give Daisy to fill the spacious room. He doesn t care how much she wants, he gives what he thinks she
needs and is content with doing no more for her. Yet when

My Views On My Land Ethic
When I think about what my land ethic a few different things come to mind. First I think about how I
love technology and how much my life benefits from having it. Second I think about my love for
nature, specifically hiking and camping. I try to image what my life would be like without the
Vermont mountains and everything else wonderful about nature. My ideal land ethic would be similar
to that of the time period when the US was first being settled. A time before the industrial revolution
hit the US, before all the devastation to the environment for the betterment of the human race. My
land ethic is a give and take with nature in order to sustain human life and the life of other flora and
fauna. Humans have a built in need to survive and a desire to thrive. This trait is ultimately what has
leas us to where we are today, destroying the environment for the betterment of people now, rather
than the betterment for the people in the future. My land ethic is too only take as much from nature as
needed without exhausting the resources in one single area. It consists of three main ideas, take only
what is needed from nature, if you take somethings life, then use all of it, and lastly keep the
waterways clean and pollution free. I imagine it from around the time of the colonization of the United
States or when people migrated west. People had what they needed for the most part and they did not
have all the technology we have today which allows us to destroy the environment. In my

Summary Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Cultural Legacies Final Paper In chapter seven and chapter eight of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell
effectively claims that acknowledging cultural legacies betters the chance of success. In chapter seven
of Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell entices readers on the topic of plane crashes in the aviation world,
while commendably and credibly synthesizing the controversy around the question of how and why
plane crashes occur. When illustrating the terrible crash of Korean Airlines Flight 801 in 1997,
Gladwell intricately describes the language, words, actions, and psychology of the pilots and crew
members associated with the plane crash to better the authenticity of his claim. Combining these ideas,
Gladwell forms a theory that arguably proves to be true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While I was there, I saw firsthand the importance of cultural legacy and the effect it had on the
communication between groups of different cultural legacies: Haitian and American. Having the
cultural legacy of a native American (not referring to ethnicity), I wore a bracelet on my ankle. In
Haiti, the primary cultural legacy of Haitians assumes that anklet bracelets is a symbol for prostitution.
Not only does Haiti s cultural legacy induce the tradition of this assumption, it also induces the
assumption that prostitution is an act of Satan. Further into the story, I walked past a young orphan girl
living at the orphanage I was staying at. As I walked past her, she stopped me in my tracts and yelled
at me, Satan! . The communication barrier between me and the young girl, resulted in
miscommunication. This is another example of how interaction between different cultural legacies
results in a communication barrier. These examples of cultural legacy, are only but a few examples
from my trip to Haiti. Because I experienced the interaction between myself and people of different
cultural legacies, I agree with Gladwell s theory that cultural legacies are important and effective in
acquiring

Application of a Differentiation Strategy in an Organization
Technology Strategic Analysis
Porter defines cost leadership, differentiation and focus, as the basic business strategies for an
organization to gain competitive advantages. An effective competitive strategy should be based on the
organization s goals and objectives as well as the market situation (Allen Helms, 2006). Hotel ICON
is an independent teaching hotel focusing on creative and innovative design and services. As the
slogan Unlike Any Other illustrates, Hotel ICON strives to create a unique hotel experience for
customers instead of a stereotype one that they can gain in most chain hotels. This indicates that the
hotel is following a differentiation strategy to gain competitive advantages in the Hong Kong hotel
market by providing stylish design supplemented by the revolutionary technology trend (Hotel ICON,
2011).
An organization applying differentiation strategy may focus on providing unique product or services
which emphasizing on quality service, innovation as well as the revolutionary technology trend (Allen
Helms, 2006). By applying differentiation strategy, organizations usually could achieve higher
customer loyalty by providing customers unique and high quality services. They are also likely to gain
higher revenue because customers may be willing to pay more for the value added experiences. Since
Hotel ICON mainly adopts differentiation strategy, high technology elements are involved throughout
almost all aspects of Hotel ICON s operations, such as the

Donne s Poetry
Write a close reading of John Donne s The Relic . Think about what the poem is about (content), how
it is written (form and structure), and why, to what effect (the relation between form and content). You
may like to refer to Cleanth Brooks essay, The Formalists, for inspiration.
This essay will look at the form, structure and content of The Relic in an attempt to offer an
explanation as to what the poem is about. It will examine the metaphysical poets, and discuss the
techniques employed by them to express their views. The Relic consists of three 11 line stanzas which
incorporate tetrameter (four metrical feet), pentameter (five metrical feet) and two tri meter (three
metrical feet) lines per stanza. It is written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This telescoping of images and multiplied associations [...] is one of the sources of the vitality of their
language. (p 1099) If we look again at line 8 of The Relic , it is noticeable that the gravedigger would
only think that there a loving couple lies, (l.8). It would be logical to assume that a husband would be
buried with his wife, so the use of think (l.8) is puzzling. By following this with the apparently
polysemous lies, (l.8) the poem could be read differently, altering the entire meaning to suggest that
their love was only a fantasy. Another characteristic of metaphysical poetry is its tendency to use
religious imagery to express its views. Towards the end of the first stanza, The Relic introduces the
concept of their souls, at the last busy day, (l.10). This has been interpreted as a veiled reference to
judgement day and leads the reader smoothly into the second stanza where the images of death are
replaced with a high lexical density of religious vocabulary. Donne uses lexis such as mis devotion
and doth command (l.13); Bishop (l.15); relics (l.16); Mary Magdalen (l.17); and miracles (ll.20 22) in
order to extend the religious metaphor, introduced at the end of the first stanza, to evoke powerful
images in the mind of the reader. Donne raises the question, in line 17,

  • 2. Globalization And Its Impact On Modern Society Since the early 1990 s, the term globalization has become a bit of a buzzword, prevalent in the speech of policy makers, popular press, and academic journals. It is used frequently to describe the .... . Its consistent use has led many people to a certain understanding of it most basic meaning, but it is an immensely complex concept that can not be truly understood at the top layer of meaning which is prevalent among general society. There are multiple varying definitions for the globalization phenomenon. Many people argue that the process of globalization has contributed to a metaphorical flattening of our world, destroying absolute spatial differentiation. The hyperglobalist economists believe that we have come to live in a global village society in which is close to the destruction of spatial differentiation and thus, the study of geography. The idea is that our differences are declining and our culture is homogenizing. However, this belief relies on the assumption that modern globalization mechanisms can be considered completely global. It is difficult to refute the argument that there are currently millions of people who have not seen or been affected by even the most fundamental advancements and compression that go along with globalization. Looking meticulously at the geographical distribution of the causes and effects of...contemporary processes of economic globalization shows that there is in fact a clear differentiation of these processes along recognizable and ... • 3. The Existence of a God Essay The Existence of a God Throughout history, the worship of gods has been a part of daily life even amidst those cultures that have been considered savage . The reactions, movement, existence, comparisons, purposes, and common beliefs of the world show that there must be a god. The existence of a god is an irrefutable fact. Sir Isaac Newton stated that every action has a reaction. Therefore every reaction is formed from an action which #8364;in and of itself is a reaction to a previous action. If this theory is followed far enough back, there must be an original action, something that starts all actions, and causes all reactions. Since nothing can cause its own action, because to do so would mean that it would have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once again, by following this path to its origin one will find that something must always have existed in order for anything further to exist because for something to exist, it will one day cease to exist and in order for it to cease to exist it must at one point not have existed. Thus it must have been created since that which does not exist comes into being by something that exists (Knowledge, 134). And, as we saw in relation to movers and to causes, so we cannot but postulate the existence of some being having of itself its own existence and not receiving it from another, but rather causing in others their existence. Thus, one may observe evidence of the existence of god . Comparisons between things using more or less show that there must be something to which the thing is being compared. To say that something is better than something else which is good is to show that one has the extreme resemblance of the most . Thus, there must be a being that is the most good, something to which everything is compared. As the ultimate good would likely be found in a perfect being, and it is said that god is perfect , than this ultimate good must be the supreme being which is known as god . Thus for the comparisons to be used and found to be truthful, there must be a god. The purposes for which things exist also provide proof of the existence of god . Everything acts with a purpose ... Watching the enormous flock sail upon the currents and individuals swoop down every so often was beautiful, they seemed to move as one entity. Noticing smaller ones resting on larger ones he wondered what life what be like being born in the air and to live and die there. Kohen drew himself away from the flock watching and did a radar scan of the immediate area looking for the thinnest part of the flock and set co ordinates for there, he still wanted to get some water. She had always loved them, and when times were stormy throughout her life these always made her feel better. Growing up in Minerva she wanted for nothing. Her mom was an ambassador and her father was the head of the engineering department of the most prestigious university in the city. They were fairly well off and she had gotten pretty much anything she wanted, but being rich wasn t all it was cracked up to be. She remembered that most of her friends always seemed to be of the same sort, shallow, spoiled, rich kids, she did her best to have fun and why not but inside she always felt that that wasn t really her scene. When her parents had parties at their place she had to dress up and mingle with the high rollers and make polite conversation, she indeed detested most of the parties that she was forced to attend. • 5. Essay about Phar Mor Inc Case Study Sean Russi The Case of Phar Mor Inc ACCT 525 October 31, 2012 Case Summary The case of Phar Mor Inc was one of the biggest pre Enron frauds that have been uncovered. Phar Mor Inc established in 1982 Phar Mor was a small little known discount drugstore. Phar Mor became well known for offering medications at a 25 40% discount rate compared to your normal pharmacy store prices. Phar Mor s first six years of existence seemingly were fraud free and saw the company grow at a decent pace for their field. By 1987 Phar Mor almost had 100 stores and was expanding even more rapidly at this point. The first hint of fraud came up and was discovered being a billing type scheme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time of discovery Phar Mor was overstated by over a $150 million dollars and had no other choice but to file bankruptcy. Could SOX have prevented the Phar Mor fraud? How? Which specific sections of SOX? During the time period that the Phar Mor fraud took place it was one of the most elaborate frauds of the 1980 s so could SOX prevented the fraud? The answer is debatable because of the extent that Phar Mor went to cover up the fraud it may have taken several years still to uncover it however, in the long run I do believe SOX would have prevented the fraud from lasting almost a full decade without being detected, and would not have been uncovered had it not been for a whistle blower. I think the most important sections of SOX that would have helped uncover the fraud at Phar Mor are as follows Section 203 Which deals with the auditors and any possible conflict of interest if they had worked with Phar Mor in the last calendar year they would have not been able to be the same auditors doing final audits of the company. Section 206 Which states that any auditor who had previously worked for the firm and now works for Phar Mor would cause the firm to not be able to have Phar Mor as a client. Phar Mor had 3 former employees of the audit firm who worked for them which allowed them the knowledge to know that the

  • 7. Analysis Of Darius Milhaud, A French Composer When Africans were sold as slaves to Central and South America in the 16th and 17th centuries, they continued to make marimbas there. The instruments underwent further development on the American continent, especially in Mexico, Guatemala and Brazil ( Marimbaphone , 2003). In these countries the calabashes were replaced by precisely tuned wood resonator chambers. In Latin America, the name marimba refers to every kind of large xylophone with calabashes as resonators of the type that originated from Africa. The name marimba was eventually applied to the concert and orchestra instrument that had been inspired by the Latin American model ( Marimbaphone , 2003). The steel drum is a skillfully hammered 55 gallon oil barrel which has been carefully tuned by hand to produce perfect musical tones ( Steel Pan History , 2017). It was developed on the Caribbean island of Trinidad during the early years of the 20th century. Old rubbish tins, care parts, and garbage can lids formed the first Iron Bands , which led to the realization that a dented section of a barrel head could produce a musical note. Careful refinement of this discovery produced the modern steel drum that is now often seen being played by street musicians. Conclusion Percussion has evolved throughout its history into what it is today. Melodic instruments have several origins, the two main origins being Eastern Asia and Africa. In each culture their first intended use was for religion and war. Melodic percussion instruments, like most instruments, are now used for less serious events than their original uses. Rather than being linked to war and religion, a majority of melodic percussion is used for entertainment. Along with the change of melodic percussion s contributions in war and religion, comes the advancement melodic percussion has made for entertainment. Today they are played in most places around the world in ensembles or even on streets during street performances. Although the instruments belonging to melodic percussion can be played and enjoyed on their own, the main purpose of a melodic percussion instrument now usually lies ... When Bradbury was young, he spent time listening to the radio and going to the library. He received inspiration from a magician, Mr. Electrico. Bradbury wrote many science fiction books and short stories. Some of his most famous works include Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way, and more. The Veldt is about a family who lives in a technological house. The parents, George and Lydia Hadley, bought the house because they wanted the best for their children, Wendy and Peter. George and Lydia only want the best for their children, however sometimes they give in too much. That sounds dreadful...And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath? (Bradbury). Peter was afraid that he would actually have to do work. This describes how spoiled they are at home. Moreover, his description of the veldt also conveys an atmosphere of menace and hostility mirroring the psychological state of the Hadley family (Bernardo). This shows how the family has trouble getting along with each other because of the hostility caused by the veldt. Lastly, it portrays the dreamlike quality of the house. They describe the room as being easy to dream. How often had he seen Pegasus flying in the sky ceiling, or seen fountains of red fireworks, or heard angel voices singing (Bradbury). This also shows that the children enjoy going into the nursery to dream very often. Hence, the story has an air of unreality about it as if it were simply a child s daydream of a world in which children have the power and competence given to adults and adults have the helplessness of children (Bernardo). The nursery depicts a dreamlike quality and it gives the children the freedom to live in a world they would imagine. Imagery helps move the plot further along in the story. The ... Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil cases. This leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the ancient Greeks thousands of years ago[1]. That is what my book Bad Girls Don t Die By: Katie Alender was about. Just to give a small idea about the book, a high school girl is living the normal life when her little sister, Kasey, gets possessed by a spirit in her home. The spirit tries to kill a cheerleader going to Alexis s high school. They decided to go after the spirit and try to kill it. Throughout the entire book, they find different evidence of who the spirit is and what happened. The author wrote the book giving emotions of scare or terror, frightened or startled, and disgust. To do so she used lots of words and examples that you would see in horror movies. But instead of a horror movie, it was a horror novel. Has anyone ever changed their attitude or the way they acted? • 16. Dedication And Dedication Of Dedication Bryce Curtis Mr. Moore Senior English December 14, 2015 Dedication Have you ever wanted to just give up on something or just wish you had never started it in the first place? We ve all experienced this feeling at least once in our lifetime. I have felt this through the thick and thin of my school career, and sadly I have tended to be the one who wants to gives up a lot more often than I d like to admit. However, it is always the fear of failing, and in my case, not graduating that reignites my dedication in order to succeed. Dedication is when you absolutely devote yourself to something, doing whatever it takes to keep pursuing your goal. It s more than a pursuit, it s a passionate perseverance. In order to be good at something, truly good at it, you have to be dedicated to it. It s more than trying to achieve the impossible, just so you can be the best. Everyone has that one thing that they are dedicated to. When you are dedicated, you don t care about the parties, or going out with your friends; you will stay at home on a Saturday night to accomplish your goal. Dedication is what leads you to success. Without it, you will never succeed. However, dedication doesn t always kick in right away. For example, my Sophomore year I realized I wasn t going to pass my English class unless I did something. I talked to my teacher and asked what I could do. And after looking at the grade book this was her reply, Well Bryce, unless you can get a 121% on this next essay, I don t see you ... The fries are also quite cheap only costing $1.39 for a small, or $2.29 for a large at McDonald s in the United States (not including tax), making them a very desirable purchase. However, many may ask themselves if they are receiving an amount of fries that makes the low price actually low, especially when looking at the almost one dollar difference between a large and small french fry. This reasoning inspired me to investigate; I wanted to see if the higher cost of a large french fry is justifiable. My question lead me to coming up with the idea of purchasing large and small fries, counting the number of fries, then calculating the average cost per fry. I then hypothesized that large fries are actually not the greatest bargain because it costs more per fry than a small. In numeric terms, H0:L=Svs. Ha:L S 0 where L= the true mean cost per fry for a large french fry at the Waukee location, and S= the true mean cost per fry for a small fry at the Waukee location. It is necessary to collect raw data in order to draw conclusions, so, for this population an observational study was used to obtain data. • 25. Relationship Between Adam And Eve Humans are an extraordinary creation by God. Adam, is seen as the leader and dominant figure, due to being the first man in human existence created by such a supreme and mysterious power. Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being (Holy Bible NRSV Gen. 2.7). God then creates animals as fellow companions for Adam, as well as Eve, made out of Adam s rib, so that he can have a helper suited for him. Eve is not seen as submissive to him, as her gesture is out of kindness, similar to how God helps his own people. Innumerable critical readers, tend to postulate ideas of gender stratification in the creation story using the logic of domination. Factors such as assumption of domination and value dualism (Warren, 32), formulate an apprehension of the relationship between Adam and Eve in the Genesis story. The proposal of a dominant and subordinate sex, is exhibited by their attitudes that result in their misguided decisions. In the beginning of the book of Genesis, the concern for Eve being created last, displays subordination based on the chronological sequence. On the other hand, a literary analyst would know that the last, means the first, the beginning and ending is equivalent as with man and woman. She is not a postscript to this creation story, but solely the pinnacle of the development of human kind. Another aspect that makes man and woman equal are the delicate materials God creates them from. God creates Adam from dust, where his life hangs by a breath that is out of his control, making him remain and silent and passive. The rib of Adam from which Eve comes from, portrays unity and egalitarianism. Before the establishment of Eve, God would address Adam as adham meaning male and female. The male and female connect and depend on one another. Eve was sent to be a helper towards Adam. It is not good that adham should be alone; I will make a helper fit for him (Trible, 141).Conveyed in the Old Testament, God is seen as a helper to Israel, someone who loves and saves his people. This gives a disadvantage to man, as Adam will rely on Eve to make decisions, such as eating the forbidden fruit from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Appeal of the Mystery Genre Essay Question One: At the beginning of the semester I wrote in my personal information handout that I felt what made the mystery genre stand apart from all other genres was its ability to keep the reader/watcher on the edge of their seat wanting more information. That mysteries are unpredictable, making the reader/watcher stay until the end because they must know the ending. I still feel this way, but my understanding of this concept has certainly evolved and sharpened. Within mystery twists and turns occur, red herrings take the audience down the wrong path, and the audience plays detective, but for it to be a true mystery, something unforeseen must occur. This unforeseen occurrence is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seat and coming back for more. It is common knowledge that the detectives cannot find the murderer only 20 minutes into the episode or 50 pages into the book and while the audience certainly enjoys being correct when the killer is revealed, continuously being correct would ruin the allure of the genre. It is stories such as The Murders in Rue Morgue by Edgar Allen Poe that keep the readers on their feet with the unforeseen. When first reading Poe s story, I would have never guessed that an orangutang committed the murder and I am sure many other readers felt the same way, which draws us into the story. It would be logical to assume that a husband would be buried with his wife, so the use of think (l.8) is puzzling. By following this with the apparently polysemous lies, (l.8) the poem could be read differently, altering the entire meaning to suggest that their love was only a fantasy. Another characteristic of metaphysical poetry is its tendency to use religious imagery to express its views. Towards the end of the first stanza, The Relic introduces the concept of their souls, at the last busy day, (l.10).
