Understanding the Economic Recession in America Essay
The economic recession of the late 2000s has been called the greatest economic downturn our country
has faced since the Great Depression. American businesses and banks are failing, foreclosures are
spreading like wildfire, and unemployment numbers have reached double digits. Under our current
president, many are optimistic, but many others are fearful for the future. Economists have different
speculations regarding the causes of the Great Recession . Some blame it on higher prices for
necessities like oil. Others blame the recession on the burst of the real estate bubble, inflation, and
lacking government regulations on big businesses. Economic experts are also debating on possible
solution to end the recession. It is evident that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the housing bubble burst, credit was tightened and fewer loans were distributed. These two events,
along with the global price expansion, helped create a ripple effect that furthered the economic
turmoil. The credit squeeze lowered demand of products from businesses, which led to a decrease in
their profits. As revenues decreased, businesses closed down many of their plants and facilities in
order to reduce costs. The closures of these plants led to layoffs of millions of workers, and finally, a
sharp decline in the US stock market ( What Caused the Recession? ). Although the instability of sub
prime mortgages, the credit crunch, and the expansion of global prices heralded the advent of the
economic crisis, other experts have had their own opinions about the cause of the financial meltdown.
Adam Smith s invisible hand and the American pursuit of self interest played a large role on the onset
of the recession. The invisible hand is an economic theory developed b Adam Smith, a pioneer in
world economics. The theory is that as consumers buy products, companies will adjust their prices and
product distributions to fit the needs of the consumers, thus resulting in mutual satisfaction between
businesses and buyers ( Adam Smith and the invisible hand ). However, as the economy grew strong
during the pre recession years, American consumers became more influenced by greed. They

Domestic Terrorism Related Intelligence.
Domestic Terrorism Related Intelligence
Abstract
Domestic terrorism is like cancer that eats away at the very values and beliefs of the American people.
Instead of combining efforts to peacefully and legally enact change, domestic terrorists take the law
and actions into their own hands. Groups such as eco terrorists use firebombing to make their point
that the Earth will be protected at all costs. That cost even meant human lives. Militia groups feel the
same way. Their goal is not about saving the Earth but rather to change the government. They see it as
too weak to handle the needs of the America people. These individuals use modified firearms,
explosives, and survival tactics. Law abiding citizens are not defenseless, the FBI and NCIRC work
together to help keep America safe.

Crimes are the result of individuals that do not follow established laws of the land. Criminals can
either be individuals or they can be organized groups. The best way for law enforcement to handle the
challenges of criminal element is to understand their strategies and then counter them. The purpose of
this paper is to review domestic terrorism related intelligence and how it is related to criminal
intelligence. Using criminal intelligence is the first step in dealing with criminal elements. The data is

The Pros And Cons Of The Ivy League
The Ivy League is a group of eight private universities located in the Northeastern region of the United
States. The Ivy League has general connotations of academic excellence and elitism, including
universities like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. They are viewed as the most eminent, and ranked
among the finest universities in the world, especially in business, law, and medicine. Each school
receives millions in research grants and other subsidies from federal and state governments, and
universities like Harvard have over $34 billion in endowment funds. With small enrollment rates, that
amounts to a lot of money per student. This allows the Ivy League universities to afford the resources
needed for their academic programs and research endeavors. The Ivy League schools are highly
selective, with low acceptance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This disadvantages bright students who lack upper class resources. Lower class students tend to make
poorly informed, random, or impulse decisions about college: where to go, how to get in, and what
college is about. Given the unlikelihood that their parents have never set foot on a college campus,
academically promising lower class students can become overwhelmed during the application process.
If these students are looking towards applying to top universities like the Ivy League, they are
competing against groomed upper class kids who know how to write application essays by parents,
high school counselors, and professionals paid for by their parents. Low class students find themselves
ignorant about admission requirements, costs of college and possibilities of financial aid, and how to
apply. Most didn t know what to major in to relate to their professional aspirations. Poorly informed
students are more likely to go to college closer to home, like community colleges or junior colleges, or

The Negative Outcomes of Homeschooling
Many people think that homeschooling is a better way to educate their children, but they never stop
and think about the negative outcomes it can bring. Homeschooling has a more negative outcome than
public or private schooling. This is because in many cases parents do not have enough knowledge
about a certain subject or have enough time to home school their children. Another reason why
homeschooling is not the best choice is because children would not grow up as social as other kids
who attend a public or private school. Last but not least, one more reason is the high cost of
homeschooling. These are only some reasons why homeschooling is not a healthy choice for all the
children. Parents have a huge responsibility when they make the tough decision to home school their
children. This is not a simple job for parents to decide whether or not to home school. When parents
make a decision to home school their children, they have to keep in mind that it takes a large amount
of time as well as dedication on both sides. This is because parents have to be sure that their children
are doing their work and not gazing off. Children need to have in mind that they would have to
manage how to schedule their timing correctly. In addition, this might make it harder to manage work
and other household tasks for parents. They have to not only be in charge of their children and how
they re doing their work but also they have to be responsible for their jobs and all the households

What Is The Consequences Of King Arthur In The King Of...
Mordred was born as an illegitimate son from an incestuous relationship between King Arthur and
Morgan Le Fay. Since he was born from such an embarrassing relationship, King Arthur wanted
nothing to do with Mordred and made no attempt at a relationship with Mordred. Arthur would
eventually try to kill all babies that were born in May due to a prophecy he received from Merlin, but
his attempt at changing the future failed because Mordred survived. Mordred would grow to harbor
hate in his heart for King Arthur and wanted nothing but revenge against him and his family. He began
dealings with people of shady natures in order to get to Arthur and became increasingly evil and
caught up in his desires. Arthur eventually became aware of Mordred s desire to kill him and tried to
use his knights such as Sir Lancelot and his wizard Merlin to try to kill Mordred. The men were
unsuccessful in stopping Mordred, so Mordred then met Arthur on the battlefield during the Battle of
Camlann where Arthur was expecting him and was able to best him since Mordred was fighting in a
blind rage. However, Mordred was able to deal a fatal blow that would later claim Arthur s life and
exact Mordred s vengeance on Arthur.

Preventing Teenage Driving In The United States
We as citizens today should do everything we can to protect our youth, after all they are the future
leaders of America. As a mother of a teenager, I worry about when my teenager will begin driving.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Web based Injury Statistics Query and
Reporting System (WISQARS) [Online]. (2013). National Center for Injury Prevention and Control,
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (producer). [Cited 2015 Oct 7]. Motor vehicle crashes are
the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. We as citizens need to take an active role and do more to
prevent our youth from being in harm s way. Allowing our youth to begin driving on the roads at the
age of 15 years, with a learner s permit, we are allowing them to drive as an inexperience driver, a
driver subject to distractions, and the age limit needs to be raised. Due to their inexperience driving
abilities, they might not as easily recognize a bad situation while driving. We have all been there,

The Pathetic Jay Gatsby of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby...
The Pathetic Jay Gatsby of The Great Gatsby
Pathetic is a term used to describe someone who is pitifully
unsuccessful. Success is not necessarily measured in wealth or fame, but
it is measured by how much one has accomplished in life. A successful
person is one who has set many goals for himself and then goes out in life
and accomplishes some of them, but goes on living even if failing on others.
In the novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is a pathetic character because
he wasted his whole life chasing an unrealistic dream.

Gatsby is pathetic because he behaves like a child and he cannot
handle adult situations like an adult. His childish demands show that he
is a pathetic and immature human being. Jordan says, I immediately

Nick s house, his nervousness shows his inability to handle adult
situations. Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in
his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into
my eyes. (Fitzgerald 91) A mature adult would be able to handle this
situation without running around the outside of the house in the rain and
then arriving at the front door as if it was just a coincidence. Even in
the situation of the reunion with the long lost lover, a mature adult would
be able to stay in the house and greet her at the door and not try to lie

short of a complete evolution and transformation. This industry has endured global economic
downturns in advanced economies such as the United States requiring them to branch out of their
comfort zones and expand into emerging markets specifically the BRIC countries. These Asian nations

Gray Markets LVMH has found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or resold
through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more than 40% more
than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray market where groups
from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for resale through parallel
channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems for LVMH. The first is the
dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are watered down due to the
influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop in margins for distributor
(Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding occurs when authorized
distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a product, such as presale
service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This reduction in services causes the
customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon the brand (Sloan). The third
problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships. Manufacturers spend a lot of time
and money establishing relationships with their distribution network. The result of gray markets is
unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a manufacturer s product and therefore
could be very costly (Sloan).

French Culture Research Paper
1. What did you learn about the culture?
From doing this first assignment project, I learned how focused the French culture is on art and how
involved it is in their everyday lives. Art can come in so many forms in the French culture, a few
being paintings, sketches, sculpting, and making music. As well as this, I learned about Impressionism
which is a form of art that specifically came from the French culture in the 1870s and the 1880s. This
form of art was created by a group of Impressionists whom were all French. Lastly, I learned how the
French culture is full of elegance and love, which is also displayed through their artwork as well.
2. How does this compare/contrast to your own culture? The daily life of a French person is very
focused around the topic of art whether it be through food, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

4. What did you enjoy or find frustrating?
I really enjoyed putting together the visual aspect of this project and finding out more about Claude
Monet while connecting it to the French culture. I found it kind of frustrating to put together the
biography of Monet though as I had to read through a lot of information to do so. Although this is the
case, it did interest me.
5. How does what you have learned affect your understanding of this culture?
What I have learned from this project has helped me understand that the French culture is much
different to that of Canadian culture. Also, it has helped to teach me that it s very unique and different,
which makes it special.
6. Do you have any questions about the culture? Do you need to do more research?
As I chose a famous French person who was an artist, it didn t necessarily cover every aspect of the
French culture when I researched Claude Monet for the project, but it did cover a lot for the art portion
of it, which is quite a bit. I do think that I need to do more research on the culture because of

Clinical Decision Support System ( Cdss ) Essay
Background Information Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is gaining increased recognition in
healthcare organizations. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger CDSS is crucial to

Patient data can be input by digital entry, queried from other clinical information systems or
transmitted from medical devices. Patient data are compared against a knowledge base and made

Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All
In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and his
students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All showed an
endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I found myself
personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes Scholar drives a
Cooper and holds himself above politics.
After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to build
a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his extreme
shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with a manual
transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying while relating
her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) graph
with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I could research this
graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of the DJIA using data for
the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the
film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as
pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no substance, just emotion.
Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U shaped
curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity from 1900
to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to
1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than present day and they
want to get back to that time.

Refugee Camps And The United Nations High Commissioner For...
Throughout historical events including modern day occurrences, the conflict between environmental
and humanitarian issues are vouchsafed to be unimportant. Per the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is tasked with
addressing the environmental effects and impacts on refugees, and states that the most significant
problems from refugees [and camps] include deforestation, soil erosions and depletion and pollution
of water resources (UNHCR Social). Yet, after numerous displacements in the Middle East, the world
seemed poised to grant a higher priority to lower issues on the agenda for environmental stability.
However, despite increasing awareness that environmental decline produces and is a byproduct of
conflict, little is known about the linkage between refugee camps and the environment due to a lack of
conceptual clarity. As a result, in the case of refugee camps and their ability to impact our
environment, refugee camps are a global concern that affects everyone and our global ecosystem. By
way of illustration, the dire living conditions in refugee camps [and the harboring diseases that they
can create] are less often a focus for international humanitarian attention. In fact, many who are
uprooted from their homes [during violent conflict] travel countless miles in search of safety [in
refugee camps] only to face new perilous circumstances. Currently, living conditions within refugee
camps are often

Okonkwo s Anger In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
In the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Okonkwo, the main character exhibits anger in many
ways. First, Okonkwo shows anger through abusing his family. Second, Okonkwo tried to portray his
manliness to his tribe but his anger made hi look disrespectful. Lastly, outside influence caused
Okonkwo the most anger. Overall, Okonkwo s anger got the better of him and led to his death.
Okonkwo shows his anger through heavy abuse of his family. Okonkwo constantly beat his son,
Nwoye, for being lazy (Achebe,13). Okonkwo was angered at Nwoye for being lazy because it
reminded him of his father who was also very languorous, which put a bad name to his family.
Okonkwo resented his father for being lazy and causing the rough start to his life. Alo, Okonkwo
would pummel his wife Ekwefi for simple things, one he even shot at her (Achebe,38). Ekwefi had
taken a few leaves from a banana tree which infuriated Okonkwo enough to beat her. If that hadn t
have been enough she back talked him, that vexed Okonkwo and he shot at her, missing. Although

meeting. The most serious time Okonkwo had gotten heated with his tribe was after he had killed the
messenger (Achebe, 205). Okonkwo killed the messenger and walked away when he realized the tribe

keep the car running good for as long as you have it. The instructions they are possibly given tells
them when the car should be serviced. When you hit 3000 miles make sure the oil is changed and
when you reach 10,000 miles you should bring the car in to be full serviced. During the full service
they will check things such as the brakes, wipers, oil, and tires. These checkups are known as

Sandra Comerie Smith lectured on Pastoral and Spiritual formation in global setting. During the
lecture she gave several key points. There was one particular one that stood out to me. Rev. Smith
said, Sometimes as Christians we are not ready to face the full impact of what is happening in the
world. To be mental fit for ministry in a global setting one must possess a healthy and strong mind that
allows us to handle the challenges and opportunities that life puts in from of you. With the new
administration in place in Washington D.C. we are facing many challenges. The challenges of
discrimination, the challenge of seeing a family separated as a result of deportation, and the challenge
of individuals losing health coverage. With the new issues arising people will look to the church for
direction. When this happens we must be mentally prepared to minister to the fear people are
experiencing. Ronald E, Peters says, Urban ministry must also reflect the potential love as the most
effective alternative to fear. As leaders we must demonstrate the heart of compassion to show the love
people need in such a time as this. The best way we can be mentally fit to demonstrate the love of God
is through self care. As leaders we need to manage our situation better to prevent possible burn out.
When we don t take time out to equip ourselves mentally it would be difficult to help others through
their ordeal. The plenary reminded me the importance of self care to help keep me prepared for my

Elvis Presley Influence
Rock and roll music was really started by this one quote: I don t sound like nobody (Marsh). This
quote was said by Elvis when he first met Sun founder Sam Phillips, during a recording session that
Elvis was making for his mother s birthday. Phillips liked Elvis voice and singing style so much that
he thought Elvis was a black man! The public would also have this theory about him until they
actually saw him. Of course, when Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee,
even he could not predict that he was about to change the course of music history forever. Elvis

Presley was also a terrific dancer, and broke the rules in traditional showmanship, which often put him
in the middle of controversy. Presley has already appeared six times on national television, but it is his
appearance on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, that triggers the first controversy of his career.
Presley sings his latest single, Hound Dog, with all the pelvis shaking intensity his fans scream for
(Marsh). Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express himself, and did not see any issues
surrounding it. He did what he felt like doing, and would inspire artists such as James Brown and Jim
Morrison of The Doors to have a breathtaking stage presence. For this reason, several religious groups
were outraged at Elvis chosen form of expression, and started protesting the young singer. Television
critics across the country slam the performance for its appalling lack of musicality, for its vulgarity
and animalism. The Catholic Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined
Beware Elvis Presley. Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the
young find a new target in the popular singer (Marsh). The churches were particularly angered at
Presley s dancing, and rallied against him, much to the chagrin of the teenage fans. In like manner,
newspapers would express public outcries of why Elvis music should be banned from their towns,
leading to a short decline in Elvis record sales. With these two characteristics of performing, Elvis
would go on to inspire countless musicians, all over the

Mutual Symbiosis: A Model for Peaceful Coexistence
Peace, a great necessity in life, the absence of which you cannot fully understand until you have an

Nature does not just provide us with natural resources, it equally gives us a great number of life saving
lessons. Although human civilization has developed by the proper use of nature and its products,
peaceful coexistence, selfless interdependence and mutual relationship are lessons that could be learnt
from nature. A study of the clown fish and the sea anemone reveals to us a few of such lessons.

advancement of our technology and society. Growth can sometimes flourish so fast that it can be hard
to keep track of especially in the areas that it may be easily overlooked until it comes to be necessary,
such as the ethics. This new type of technological development brings ethical concerns upon us, just
how it brought a cultural awakening upon society. For every technological glass ceiling we have
broken through comes an endless cascading effect of technical development in any of the other areas.

And what are the ethics that go with computer use in our society today? There are many inquiries that
arise when looking at the relationship that exists between computers and ethics. But before we can
look at the role computers have with ethics, we first need to understand why it is extremely significant
to acknowledge this connection, along with the possible effects that may come about it if this
relationship is ignored or forgotten. Let s take a look at a unique instance which involves computers
and their association with ethics and social media, something almost everyone is a part of today. This
case revolves around a recent phone app, called Tinder, which has become popular for both males and
females in college campuses. The app allows males and females to log on through their Facebook
accounts, which allows for them to share their pictures, age, and mutual friends with others around
them. Then once one is registered on the app, a picture of the other sex pops up and they either swipe
away or like it, in which it then matches them up with that other person. So essentially this app is
dating app for young college students, where males and females have the potential to stalk and talk to
others of the opposite sex that live a certain radius from them, and maybe possibly actually meet and
date (very unlikely). Tinder is very similar to other dating apps, however it makes it a lot less
complicated for college students so that they are easily able

Locke And Descartes Argument Analysis
Everyone has their own beliefs about where ideas come from and how they are formed. Locke and
Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes
believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born with
all of the knowledge we need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will know how
to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we have to learn
everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have presented.
Being an Education major and being required to study the ways in which children learn and how their
brains are formed has helped me see the flaws in their arguments, ... Show more content on

But in reality children aren t aware of the sky being blue because they have to learn colors when they
go to school for the first time. For instance, it is seen that people in society that don t attend school
only know as much as they have seen in life or have experienced. Individuals evolve based on their
environment. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue, all children are
supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working on colors with them
before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas because we know when
children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also cry when they have a full
diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication, even though they may not
understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. So, it can be said that humans are
born knowing how to cry as a technique to let their loved ones realize that they are distressed. No one
taught them how to cry, babies are just able to come out of the womb with the ability to cry as a
temporary substitute until they can learn how to

Using the Internet and the information you gained from this lesson as sources, select one of the
following areas and provide an explanation of why people from that country came to the United
States. Include a discussion of the typical experience of someone coming from your selected country
once they arrived. You can include where they primarily migrated to, what occupations these new
immigrants were primarily entering into, and the issues or challenges they faced in America.
The Chinese immigrated to America for the economic opportunities offered. Chinese immigrants were
mostly peasant farmers who left because of economic and political troubles because of the British
dominance over China after the Opium Wars. The Chinese also regarded America

Informed Consent In Prisons
One of the greatest problems in medical research in prisons was poor quality of, if any, informed
consent. Many people point to the Tuskegee study on the effects of syphilis, where subjects were
deceived into thinking they were gaining medical treatment and the lack of information violated the
principle informed consent (McDerott 10). Ethics professor Karen Lebacqz explains that informed
consent recognizes the autonomy of subjects (1), as does openness to subject s voice, and
confidentiality. Pont, Capron, and Overholser agree that informed consent is a great necessity and
must be done with clarity (187; 5; 196). The Nuremberg Code explains that all researchers are
obligated to inform subjects of the complete nature and implications of the ... Show more content on

Prison administration and medical researchers need to develop an attitude that is respectful, sensitive,
and seeks to improve and treat inmates. Overholster contends that prisons should aim to rehabilitate
inmates rather than punish them (194). Capron argues that the government should participate both in
forming and regulating policy (4). Perhaps, the government should set quotas on the number of
medical research experiments in prisons in order to invest more efforts and time in setting up a good
environment and regulating research. Depending on how research and treatment fares in prisons, the
government can tighten or relax restrictions on the purpose and nature of medical research in

Overview of the Republic of Ireland and its Business Culture
Executive Summary The Republic of Ireland consists of twenty six counties and is located on the
island of Ireland, along with Northern Ireland. Ireland is a parliamentary democracy, made up of three
branches of government: the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. The
executive branch consists of the President, who is mostly there for ceremonial purposes, the Prime
Minister, who is the head of the government, and the Deputy Prime Minister. The legislative branch
consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate and the Judicial Branch consists of the Chief
Justice and seven other judges. This paper goes over a brief look into the Republic of Ireland s history,
economy, their culture, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the majority of the Irish are Roman Catholic, Catholicism is strongly intertwined into the
everyday life of an Irish person. It influences laws, education and architecture. One example of this is
divorce, which only recently became legal in 1997. Another example is abortion, which is still illegal
today, according to the Irish Constitution (Gall Hobby, 2009, p. 235). A July 2014 estimate of Ireland s
population, puts the population at 4,832,765. Out of the 240 recognized countries, Ireland s population
ranks at number 123 ( Ireland , 2014, Population). About eighty five percent of the population identify
themselves as Irish, two percent as Asian, one percent as Black, less than one percent as mixed and
two percent as unspecified ( Ireland , 2014, Ethic Groups). According to Wilson, Ireland is relatively
peaceful when it comes to ethnic relations since most of nation is Irish and identify with the same
culture. It is typically when the Irish leave their nation, that they are subjected to prejudice and
discrimination (Wilson, 2001, p. 1095). There are two official languages recognized in Ireland, Irish
(Gaelic) and English. About thirty percent of the population speak Gaelic well enough to use it in
daily conversations and only

Space Mission Gone Wrong

Research Paper Rough Draft
My scientifically accurate sci fi paper is going to be about a new space mission gone wrong. The
space program will have just finished a new rocket and space shuttle with better propulsion systems so
that the shuttle can move faster and use less energy. The astronauts on the mission are a small crew
each with a specialty that will help them on the mission. The mission is supposed to be exiting our
solar system and then coming back in with a stop at Jupiter. The launch goes smoothly and the new
propulsion allows the crew to travel very quickly, relatively speaking, to outside the solar system. On
the way back they stop at Jupiter and do some more research. On the last leg of the mission the crew

If we can make all these systems, the next question is how do we get them all on the space shuttle in
the most efficient manner. As I briefly talked about before, NASAs Food Systems Engineering
Facility has already made progress on developing the most effective packaging for food. Missions
started off having bite sized cubes of food, powders, and aluminum tubes of semi liquids. Now,
astronauts use trays that can be attached to them or walls and hold food packages. The food packages
themselves have been redesigned to be as compactible as possible with the new trash compactor on
board the missions. Rehydratable food packages are made from flexible material to let it compress,
with Velcro on the bottom to attach it to the trays. Beverages also have been changed. Many started off
being a square polyethylene package, but are now foil laminate. Each has a septum adapter for after
the powder has been added so that it connects to the galley water dispenser for more water. It also
comes with a straw for drinking. One system that is hard to make small is the waste collection system.
Not only do we need space for the bathroom, but also we need space for all the waste containers.
There is one area that solid waste gets processed and stored, and another area where liquid waste gets
processed. So there are at least two storage areas for waste, although from research we know there s

Growing Up Tall Mountain Research Paper
Often mystical development and advance are depicted as climbing an otherworldly mountain. This is
your very own pile of development and advancement. In the event that you wish, you could call it

mountain and will take a lot of your own push to ace the move to the top. The highest point of this
individual mountain might be perfectly clear to your view or it could be covered in haze or mists,

Spread Of Islam In North Africa Essay
In the years before the Postclassical Period, the northern African region was predominantly influenced
by polytheistic and animistic religions. The region also held a variety of nomadic cultures that had a
major focus on clan and family relationships. In familial roles, men had a different and higher standard
than women. In 610 C.E., the religion of Islam was founded in the northern African region, and the
establishment of this religion effectively revolutionized the region and its effects lasted for years
afterwards. The emergence of Islam was the first instance in world history in which a religion, through
its universal elements, was able to effectively revolutionize social relationships, political institutions,
and economic establishments that helped completely unite societies within the region, and also was
able to effectively spread itself across multiple empires within the Indian Ocean region. The

Before the influence of Islam spread over, the societies within the region lacked concentration of
political power and authority, as they possessed no ruler or kingdom. However, the emergence of
Islam provided political unity. Empire building was a success as Islam existed as an ideology that
supported the missions of expansion and conquest by the state. As societies began to exist as an entire
empire united by Islam. The military fought for Islam by spreading their faith, and government leaders
were united in their faith. The religion of Islam also encouraged that all were equal, which allowed for
more followers to accept the idea of being conquered and brought under new leadership, as they all
would be united by Islam and citizens would be able to identify with their rulers. Islam allowed for
separate political entities to combine under one ideology, effectively revolutionizing the political

The movie, The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and
to feel. That is the purpose of life . Walter Mitty (Movie).
Life is about finding yourself, each other, and being true to one s self. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
is an extremely original and creative story written by James Thurber. The movie, The Secret Life Of
Walter Mitty, starring Ben Stiller, conveys a daydreamer escaping his typical life by disappearing into
a realm of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. In both the movie and the book, the title
character retreats into fantasy as an escape from his mundane reality because in the real world, he is
ordinary, insecure, and passive. In the short story, Walter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good example of this happening is when Walter for example, But she would remember it. Where s
the what s its name? she would ask. Don t tell me you forgot the what s its name. A newsboy went by
shouting something about the Waterbury trial. (Thurber). Walter proceeds to playing defendant in his
daydream. Him acting out this role demonstrated to us that he was very guilty for forgetting what his
wife asked him to get at the store. The transitions happen in a matter of a few words. This causes
surprise and excitement in the reader unlike in the movie. In the movie, you can see that Walter is
going to have a daydream because he seems to be getting hazy and the visual effects cause a
foreshadowing type effect. You can also easily figure out what the dream will be about will be about.
For example in the movie, as Walter is on the phone with an eHarmony consultant, the consultant asks
him What interesting things have you done? in which Walter puts down the phone, the camera zooms
in on his eyes, he runs, jumps off a tower into a building where he is saving a kitten from a burning
building (Stiller). There is this stark contrast where in the movie one can tell that Walter is going to
have his daydream, while in the book it surprises you.
Moreover, the biggest contrast of all that separates the movie and the book is that in the book, Walter
is constantly shifting into his dreams, which symbolize his wife, while in the movie he actively

Using Brute Force Algorithm For The Quality Of Ultrasound...
Abstract: In general, the main problem in ultrasound images is reduction of noise and problem is more
severe when the noise is multiplicative in nature. In this paper, we present a novel method to combine
different filter using brute force algorithm to enhance the quality of ultra sound image. This method is
divided into two parts i.e. pre processing and brute force algorithm. In pre processing median filter
,fuzzy filter which will evaluate the different characteristics as noisy, homogeneous, and edge and
Savitzky golay method were applied which gives smooth image while preserving shape and height of
the Ultrasound image. Secondly, Savitzky golay filtered image and fuzzy filtered image were
decomposed into different wavelet sub bands using directional dependent mask and finding out the
better threshold value of each band by using brute force algorithm. Evaluation of the method based on
different parameters show that proposed method can improve the quality of Ultrasound image. Key
Terms: Directional dependent mask, non decimated wavelet transform, fuzzy filter, Savitzky Golay
filter.

  • 2. Understanding the Economic Recession in America Essay The economic recession of the late 2000s has been called the greatest economic downturn our country has faced since the Great Depression. American businesses and banks are failing, foreclosures are spreading like wildfire, and unemployment numbers have reached double digits. Under our current president, many are optimistic, but many others are fearful for the future. Economists have different speculations regarding the causes of the Great Recession . Some blame it on higher prices for necessities like oil. Others blame the recession on the burst of the real estate bubble, inflation, and lacking government regulations on big businesses. Economic experts are also debating on possible solution to end the recession. It is evident that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the housing bubble burst, credit was tightened and fewer loans were distributed. These two events, along with the global price expansion, helped create a ripple effect that furthered the economic turmoil. The credit squeeze lowered demand of products from businesses, which led to a decrease in their profits. As revenues decreased, businesses closed down many of their plants and facilities in order to reduce costs. The closures of these plants led to layoffs of millions of workers, and finally, a sharp decline in the US stock market ( What Caused the Recession? ). Although the instability of sub prime mortgages, the credit crunch, and the expansion of global prices heralded the advent of the economic crisis, other experts have had their own opinions about the cause of the financial meltdown. Adam Smith s invisible hand and the American pursuit of self interest played a large role on the onset of the recession. The invisible hand is an economic theory developed b Adam Smith, a pioneer in world economics. The theory is that as consumers buy products, companies will adjust their prices and product distributions to fit the needs of the consumers, thus resulting in mutual satisfaction between businesses and buyers ( Adam Smith and the invisible hand ). However, as the economy grew strong during the pre recession years, American consumers became more influenced by greed. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Domestic Terrorism Related Intelligence. Domestic Terrorism Related Intelligence Abstract Domestic terrorism is like cancer that eats away at the very values and beliefs of the American people. Instead of combining efforts to peacefully and legally enact change, domestic terrorists take the law and actions into their own hands. Groups such as eco terrorists use firebombing to make their point that the Earth will be protected at all costs. That cost even meant human lives. Militia groups feel the same way. Their goal is not about saving the Earth but rather to change the government. They see it as too weak to handle the needs of the America people. These individuals use modified firearms, explosives, and survival tactics. Law abiding citizens are not defenseless, the FBI and NCIRC work together to help keep America safe. Keywords: FBI, NCIRC, militia, white supremacy, firebombing, explosives, domestic terrorism Domestic Terrorism Related Intelligence Crimes are the result of individuals that do not follow established laws of the land. Criminals can either be individuals or they can be organized groups. The best way for law enforcement to handle the challenges of criminal element is to understand their strategies and then counter them. The purpose of this paper is to review domestic terrorism related intelligence and how it is related to criminal intelligence. Using criminal intelligence is the first step in dealing with criminal elements. The data is compiled, analyzed, and then sent out in an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of The Ivy League The Ivy League is a group of eight private universities located in the Northeastern region of the United States. The Ivy League has general connotations of academic excellence and elitism, including universities like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. They are viewed as the most eminent, and ranked among the finest universities in the world, especially in business, law, and medicine. Each school receives millions in research grants and other subsidies from federal and state governments, and universities like Harvard have over $34 billion in endowment funds. With small enrollment rates, that amounts to a lot of money per student. This allows the Ivy League universities to afford the resources needed for their academic programs and research endeavors. The Ivy League schools are highly selective, with low acceptance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This disadvantages bright students who lack upper class resources. Lower class students tend to make poorly informed, random, or impulse decisions about college: where to go, how to get in, and what college is about. Given the unlikelihood that their parents have never set foot on a college campus, academically promising lower class students can become overwhelmed during the application process. If these students are looking towards applying to top universities like the Ivy League, they are competing against groomed upper class kids who know how to write application essays by parents, high school counselors, and professionals paid for by their parents. Low class students find themselves ignorant about admission requirements, costs of college and possibilities of financial aid, and how to apply. Most didn t know what to major in to relate to their professional aspirations. • 5. The Negative Outcomes of Homeschooling Many people think that homeschooling is a better way to educate their children, but they never stop and think about the negative outcomes it can bring. Homeschooling has a more negative outcome than public or private schooling. This is because in many cases parents do not have enough knowledge about a certain subject or have enough time to home school their children. Another reason why homeschooling is not the best choice is because children would not grow up as social as other kids who attend a public or private school. Last but not least, one more reason is the high cost of homeschooling. These are only some reasons why homeschooling is not a healthy choice for all the children. Parents have a huge responsibility when they make the tough decision to home school their children. This is not a simple job for parents to decide whether or not to home school. When parents make a decision to home school their children, they have to keep in mind that it takes a large amount of time as well as dedication on both sides. This is because parents have to be sure that their children are doing their work and not gazing off. Children need to have in mind that they would have to manage how to schedule their timing correctly. In addition, this might make it harder to manage work and other household tasks for parents. They have to not only be in charge of their children and how they re doing their work but also they have to be responsible for their jobs and all the households ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is The Consequences Of King Arthur In The King Of... Mordred was born as an illegitimate son from an incestuous relationship between King Arthur and Morgan Le Fay. Since he was born from such an embarrassing relationship, King Arthur wanted nothing to do with Mordred and made no attempt at a relationship with Mordred. Arthur would eventually try to kill all babies that were born in May due to a prophecy he received from Merlin, but his attempt at changing the future failed because Mordred survived. Mordred would grow to harbor hate in his heart for King Arthur and wanted nothing but revenge against him and his family. He began dealings with people of shady natures in order to get to Arthur and became increasingly evil and caught up in his desires. Arthur eventually became aware of Mordred s desire to kill him and tried to use his knights such as Sir Lancelot and his wizard Merlin to try to kill Mordred. The men were unsuccessful in stopping Mordred, so Mordred then met Arthur on the battlefield during the Battle of Camlann where Arthur was expecting him and was able to best him since Mordred was fighting in a blind rage. However, Mordred was able to deal a fatal blow that would later claim Arthur s life and exact Mordred s vengeance on Arthur. Medieval Text Malory, Thomas. Le Morte D Arthur. Gutenberg.org, 2009. As a mother of a teenager, I worry about when my teenager will begin driving. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Allowing our youth to begin driving on the roads at the age of 15 years, with a learner s permit, we are allowing them to drive as an inexperience driver, a driver subject to distractions, and the age limit needs to be raised. Success is not necessarily measured in wealth or fame, but it is measured by how much one has accomplished in life. A successful person is one who has set many goals for himself and then goes out in life and accomplishes some of them, but goes on living even if failing on others. This industry has endured global economic downturns in advanced economies such as the United States requiring them to branch out of their comfort zones and expand into emerging markets specifically the BRIC countries. These Asian nations possess high GDP rates that are anticipated to increase significantly in the upcoming years. Luxury goods were once a possession of strictly the wealthy, brand conscious consumer with a high disposable income. Gray Markets LVMH has found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or resold through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more than 40% more than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray market where groups from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for resale through parallel channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems for LVMH. The first is the dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are watered down due to the influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop in margins for distributor (Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding occurs when authorized distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a product, such as presale service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This reduction in services causes the customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon the brand (Sloan). The third problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money establishing relationships with their distribution network. The result of gray markets is unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a manufacturer s product and therefore could be very costly (Sloan). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. French Culture Research Paper 1. What did you learn about the culture? From doing this first assignment project, I learned how focused the French culture is on art and how involved it is in their everyday lives. Art can come in so many forms in the French culture, a few being paintings, sketches, sculpting, and making music. As well as this, I learned about Impressionism which is a form of art that specifically came from the French culture in the 1870s and the 1880s. This form of art was created by a group of Impressionists whom were all French. Lastly, I learned how the French culture is full of elegance and love, which is also displayed through their artwork as well. 2. How does this compare/contrast to your own culture? I found it kind of frustrating to put together the biography of Monet though as I had to read through a lot of information to do so. Although this is the case, it did interest me. 5. How does what you have learned affect your understanding of this culture? What I have learned from this project has helped me understand that the French culture is much different to that of Canadian culture. Also, it has helped to teach me that it s very unique and different, which makes it special. 6. Do you have any questions about the culture? Do you need to do more research? As I chose a famous French person who was an artist, it didn t necessarily cover every aspect of the French culture when I researched Claude Monet for the project, but it did cover a lot for the art portion of it, which is quite a bit. • 15. Clinical Decision Support System ( Cdss ) Essay Background Information Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is gaining increased recognition in healthcare organizations. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger CDSS is crucial to achieve a high quality of patients care and safety1,2. CDSS is a class of computerized information system that supports decision making activities2. It uses patient data to provide tailored patient assessments and evidence based treatment recommendations for healthcare providers to consider2,3 . Patient data can be input by digital entry, queried from other clinical information systems or transmitted from medical devices. Patient data are compared against a knowledge base and made sense of by an inference mechanism. The knowledge base can be procured commercially or developed in house. The inference mechanism can be highly variable in sophistication ranging from a simple yes no and if then statement to Bayesian prediction techniques and/or fuzzy logic. The output can also take a number of forms and can be delivered to a number of destinations at any time before, during or post interaction with the patient4. CDS is most effective when provided at the time that the physician is formulating her assessment of the patient s condition and is making ordering decisions2. CDS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision making in the clinical workflow. These tools include computerized alerts and reminders to care providers and patients; clinical guidelines; ... • 16. Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and his students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All showed an endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I found myself personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes Scholar drives a Cooper and holds himself above politics. After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to build a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his extreme shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with a manual transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying while relating her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) graph with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no substance, just emotion. Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U shaped curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity from 1900 to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to 1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than present day and they want to get back to that time. News flash gentlemen, that was the World War I and Great Depression era. Capital was devalued or lost at such a tremendous level, we developed a capitalized name for it. We teach school children of these times, but the documentary seems to ignore or gloss over it. Throughout historical events including modern day occurrences, the conflict between environmental and humanitarian issues are vouchsafed to be unimportant. Per the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is tasked with addressing the environmental effects and impacts on refugees, and states that the most significant problems from refugees [and camps] include deforestation, soil erosions and depletion and pollution of water resources (UNHCR Social). Yet, after numerous displacements in the Middle East, the world seemed poised to grant a higher priority to lower issues on the agenda for environmental stability. However, despite increasing awareness that environmental decline produces and is a byproduct of conflict, little is known about the linkage between refugee camps and the environment due to a lack of conceptual clarity. As a result, in the case of refugee camps and their ability to impact our environment, refugee camps are a global concern that affects everyone and our global ecosystem. By way of illustration, the dire living conditions in refugee camps [and the harboring diseases that they can create] are less often a focus for international humanitarian attention. In fact, many who are uprooted from their homes [during violent conflict] travel countless miles in search of safety [in refugee camps] only to face new perilous circumstances. Lastly, outside influence caused Okonkwo the most anger. Overall, Okonkwo s anger got the better of him and led to his death. Okonkwo shows his anger through heavy abuse of his family. Okonkwo constantly beat his son, Nwoye, for being lazy (Achebe,13). Okonkwo was angered at Nwoye for being lazy because it reminded him of his father who was also very languorous, which put a bad name to his family. Okonkwo resented his father for being lazy and causing the rough start to his life. Alo, Okonkwo would pummel his wife Ekwefi for simple things, one he even shot at her (Achebe,38). Ekwefi had taken a few leaves from a banana tree which infuriated Okonkwo enough to beat her. If that hadn t have been enough she back talked him, that vexed Okonkwo and he shot at her, missing. To be mental fit for ministry in a global setting one must possess a healthy and strong mind that allows us to handle the challenges and opportunities that life puts in from of you. With the new administration in place in Washington D.C. we are facing many challenges. The challenges of discrimination, the challenge of seeing a family separated as a result of deportation, and the challenge of individuals losing health coverage. With the new issues arising people will look to the church for direction. When this happens we must be mentally prepared to minister to the fear people are experiencing. Ronald E, Peters says, Urban ministry must also reflect the potential love as the most effective alternative to fear. As leaders we must demonstrate the heart of compassion to show the love people need in such a time as this. The best way we can be mentally fit to demonstrate the love of God is through self care. The Catholic Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined Beware Elvis Presley. Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the young find a new target in the popular singer (Marsh). Locke and Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born with all of the knowledge we need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will know how to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we have to learn everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have presented. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue, all children are supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working on colors with them before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas because we know when children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also cry when they have a full diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication, even though they may not understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. Abstract: In general, the main problem in ultrasound images is reduction of noise and problem is more severe when the noise is multiplicative in nature. In this paper, we present a novel method to combine different filter using brute force algorithm to enhance the quality of ultra sound image. This method is divided into two parts i.e. pre processing and brute force algorithm. In pre processing median filter ,fuzzy filter which will evaluate the different characteristics as noisy, homogeneous, and edge and Savitzky golay method were applied which gives smooth image while preserving shape and height of the Ultrasound image. Secondly, Savitzky golay filtered image and fuzzy filtered image were decomposed into different wavelet sub bands using directional dependent mask and finding out the better threshold value of each band by using brute force algorithm.
