Government Control Gun Control
The second part of reforming the Republican Party involves enacting stricter gun regulations to
decrease the amount of gun violence in the United States. The official policy from the Republican
platform believes that all law abiding citizens should have the right to own guns (2016
Republican Party Platform). However, recent mass shootings in California and Texas has called
into question on whether the regulations that are in place are enough, or if there should be tougher
background checks and restrictions on guns. The Republican Party s current stance on these
recent shootings has caused a massive backlash from the media and the public, which is resulting
in a rapid decrease in popularity. The American public is dismayed when they turn on the news
and see reports of another mass shooting causing unnecessary deaths because of gun violence and
Republican politicians are attacked on the media for not taking the necessary action of stricter gun
regulations. However, with this new stance the Republicans will now support more detailed
background checks and restrict the type of guns that can be owned by regular citizens. This will be
heavily supported by most liberal groups but disapproved by the almost all conservative groups.
Groups like the Solid Liberals, Faith and Family Left, and the Next Generation Left believe that the
government controlling gun ownership should be implemented due to the increase of mass
shootings. However, groups that are far right, the Young Outsiders,

Which Social Forces Influence My Choice In A Mate
When I first read the question Which social forces influence my choice in a mate, the first thing
that came to mind was not sex, age, race, or social class. At first I didn t think these were factors
in choosing a mate, but after reading about it more, this is actually the main factors people look at
when choosing a mate. As I began to think which factors matter to me, I quickly realized that sex,
age, race, and social class all matter to me. Also there is another very important factor that matters
when choosing a mate and that is religion. My familyraised me in a Southern Baptist Church all my
life, so religion would be another factor that influenced my choice in a mate.
When I have a child, I don t think I would want to tell them who

Circle of Conflict and the Triangle of Satisfaction Models
Introduction
This paper will discuss two different conflict models and how they may be used to diagnose a
particular conflict. Each model will be described in a way, which better helps understand the
conflict. Potential confidentiality issues within the conflict will be described as well. Both the
Circle of Conflict and the Triangle of Satisfaction Models are both effective tools at assisting a
practitioner at diagnosing and resolving conflict.
Circle of Conflict model The Circle of Conflict model is the simplest method of figuring out the
root cause of a conflict. The circle implements five possible drivers of conflict that are values,
relationships, externals/moods, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Carolyn and Nick would work around the supervisor Nick would accept Carolyn s
decisions, Carolyn believes he did this because his supervisor was around and he wanted to
appear as though he was a team player. The night that Carolyn was asked to be shift lead, not just
by her co workers but also by Nick, Carolyn thought that she would be making the final decision
and be supported by Nick and her fellow co workers. Carolyn and Nicks relationship has been
deteriorating and was now to the point that both asked to be placed on different shifts. The
relationship between Carolyn and Nick had progressed beyond workplace conflict and now
negative personal feelings developed escalating the conflict.
Externals/Moods
On the milieu, there has been change. The inconsistency and negative relationship between the two
staff members have allowed the residents to detect that there is not a leader and when there is no
leader, the resident s mood shifted to suspicion and distrust in the staff. The other co workers chose
not to get involved too much. Since there seems not to be a clear leader for the shift, a resident
becomes argumentative when bedtime is announced. The mood of the whole facility has shifted to
feelings of negativity creating an unsettling atmosphere not only for the staff members but for the
residents as well. Focus must be made on settling this negative mood within the facility or the

Nursing Is A Essential For Care For Individuals, Families,...
Nursing is a valuable profession in which nurses provide care for individuals, families, and
community groups. In order to be a successful nurse, a person has to be able to combine people
skills like communication, compassion, commitment, and trust with an adequate amount of science
and new technology knowledge. On the other hand, nurses are highly responsible for educating
their patients about different medication, diseases, treatments, and healthy lifestyle choices to help
clients maintain and improve their health and well being. Nursing consists of a wide range of
specialties and practices among which every nurse can choose depends on her/his interest and
skills. Personally, I am really interested in working on the Coronary Care unit and eager to learn
more about this specialty. Coronary care unit is a specialty department that provides care for
patients with coronary artery diseases, heart failure, and life threatening dysrhythmias which
requires continued monitoring of the patient s condition. According to J. Edgar Caswell (1967),
the first coronary care area in the United States opened at Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, Kans., in
May 1962. By the beginning of summer 1962, the Heart Disease Control Program initiated major
efforts toward establishing specialized coronary care units for patients with acute myocardial
infarction. It was at that time that the name coronary care unit received its impetus as a specialized
entity. (p. 1105). The invention of coronary care

Persuasive Essay On The Lottery
If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is.
Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of
America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they
can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this
lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where
you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent
of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and
twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket.
The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball
money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on
things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets,
and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be
given to schools.
Initially, the state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of the
Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using that
money on things that we already have. They are using this money for local transportation, teacher
retirement funds, and sports

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia
Insomnia
Sleep is considerably one of the most beneficial things there is for our health. It improves several
functions of our body and affects our overall mood. However, not many people get the amount of
sleep needed every night. Several factors can influence that, including disorders. According to a
study done by Columbia University, 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from a sleeping disorder.
About 30 percent of these people are struggling with insomnia ( What is Insomnia? ). Insomnia is
the inability to get quality sleep during the night.
Insomnia occurs when someone has a hard time falling asleep or sleeping through the night. It can
affect someone for a short period of time; others may suffer for months, or even years. ... Show

Therapy and medications are recommended as treatment.
Stressful events, traveling in different time zones, or illnesses may trigger this disorder because
the person s body is not used to different environments or situations they might have recently
faced. Keeping a constant routine is an ideal way to avoid missing out on the much needed sleep
to feel refreshed (Insomnia). It is also advised that people manage their stress in a healthy way
in order to get the recommended eight hours of sleep every night. Some of these ways include
being social in a more positive way, regularly exercising, taking time for yourself to relax, or
coping in a more spiritual way. It is recommended that you relax by lying down in a comfortable,
quiet room. Focusing on your breathing for several minutes and meditating can help your brain
slow down and the rest of your body will be able to rest.
The National Sleep Foundation found that 90 percent of Americans regularly use electronics before
bed. Smart phones are linked to having trouble falling asleep and interrupting sleep (Helmer). The
unnatural light triggers brain activity, when you are supposed to be winding down for the night.
The phone light fools with the chemicals in the brain that encourage sleep. Melatonin is the
hormone that keeps a constant internal clock in the sleep cycle. Studies have shown that up to two
hours of electronic light exposure decreased melatonin levels by nearly 22

Rhetorical Analysis Essay On Discovery Channel
One with the Planet
Earth is the only planet known to support life. This life has created millions of different species,
all part of a complex food chain and all with a distinct niche. These species all have differing
habitats, ranging from freezing tundras and parched deserts to vast oceans and lavish rainforests.
Among these species, one seems to overpower every other: homosapiens. Humans have made it
their duty to find a way to survive in all sorts of environments, to explore every inch of the planet,
and to make the best of what they discover. There are so many things to do, so many things to
create, that humans are still working to reach their full potential. One such network that shows
everything there is to show is Discovery Channel. In one commercial ad, Discovery Channel uses
strong persuasion skills and rhetorical devices to make viewers feel that the Earth is amazing and
that the entire human race is one large planet loving group of people, all while luring people to
watch their programs.

on the viewers, and somehow all of these sentiments were positively linked with the thought of

Summary Of American Jewry
The American Civil War was, with the exception of the presence of Loyalists during the American
Revolution, the only time in American history that neighbor turned against neighbor in both
widespread physical violence and enmity of the heart. This was true of the entire nation, but even
more so of American Jewry. American Jewry was a very small percentage of the American
population at the start of the war in 1861. During the conflict it was forced to confront its own
differences during the Civil War; the politics, policies and emotions of the war acting as a great
revealer which exposed the fractured unity of the tiny ethno religious group in America. While the
war exposed this fracturing, it simultaneously exposed the commonalities that American... Show

In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaisms
religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue
faced the entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic
sentiments and the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New
York City, whose general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist
sermons of Dr. Morris J. Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be
abolitionist while Southern followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery.
The reason for this kind of outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will
invariably take up the majority culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more
prone to this throughout their stay in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always
championed that the law of the land is the law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would
ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane
Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth century Jews throughout the United States borrowed
and adopted the attitudes common to the regions in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil
War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their majority Christian neighbors (many of whom
regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as such did everything they could to adopt
the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere belief or desire to blend in ]. A state of
war only heightened the differences within American Jewry that had been present all along, and
pushed them forth into the wider

Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality
In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common
war shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For
instance, many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change
the way things are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their
lives are, but there are some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In
My Fair Lady and Miss Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements
intertwined within both films through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting.
The characters of both films are revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza
Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to
Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality. When looking at Eliza and Gracie, not
only do they display the protagonist archetype, but they also show how someone not so ladylike
can be transformed into one of nature s most beautiful creatures a lady. However, becoming a lady

The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills
I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both
my current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University.
In order to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear
people s views. This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken,
taking note both the person s body language and tone of voice.
An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their
packing at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them.
Customers often do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language
and facial expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task,
involves constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s
requirements and needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a
colleague customer relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company.
Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to
other people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes . I use first
names where appropriate, this helps to build a relationship with the person I am talking to, making
them my equal. Effective communication involves good eye contact, I make and maintain eye

Analysis Of Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
A key belief within our society is that there are many sides to any story, and to gain full
understanding, one more confront and engage with all aspects. There are instances, however,
when the scope of the story makes the full truth unattainable. This is the case of World War I. The
Great War was nearly impossible to understand while it was taking place, and although nearly one
hundred years have passed, little concrete clarity has been achieved regarding the overall truths
and experiences of this war. Claire Tylee, a historian who focuses on the woman s role in World
War I, highlights the ineffable aspect of the war even for the most skilled authors, saying that:
reviewing a novel in 1917, Virginia Woolfsuggested that the War was... Show more content on

And the war goes on, indifferent to these human actions, meaningless, destructive, and apparently
endless (Hynes, 127). This was a war that touched every aspect of human life, even diluting
something as pure as love. Living with another but in internal isolation became extremely
common because: all wars divide divide not only our side from theirs, but soldiers from civilians,
men from women, one generation from another, war lovers from war haters. These divisions don t
end with the war s last shot: they continue into the following years... (Hynes, 337). The Great War
created a new kind of love story, thus reflecting the truths and lasting impacts on all corners of
society. After this war, the previous perception of love was no longer attainable, as each individual
lived in the harsh reality brought upon by extreme isolation of experience.
The climate upon returning home can be understood by observing the strain in even the closest
relationships, thus showing the isolation endured within society. Since Septimus and Rezia met
during wartime, their relationship fit within the context of chaos, so when placed in a quiet city, the
relationship that they had built crumbled. This partially was due to inconsistency in experience, as
it was impossible to understand what someone else had gone through. Septimus, for example, had
lost his best friend and lover in battle, yet had never let himself confront these feelings. Rezia, on

that foreigners have on Singapore can be classified in terms of education, economic, social and

Thus, there is no need for local students to worry about the rise in the number of foreign students.
Hence, it is not entirely right to say that the influx of foreign students in Singapore will deprive
our local students of opportunities in the field of academia. Another negative social impact is
that they reinforce prejudices about immigrants in certain quarters. The way of living of some
foreigners leads to the locals becoming upset over. For example, talking loudly in public,
spitting and being unhygienic are some of the habits that Singaporeans find themselves
uncomfortable with. This is especially so for the lowly skilled workers who forget that they are
in a developed country and behave the way they do in their villages or homes. For example, the
Straits Times covered new about social problems brought about by foreign workers. Many locals
respondents mentioned things like workers getting heavily drunk at night and chatting away
loudly at the void decks of Housing Development Board (HDB) flats. They also complained of
workers talking loudly on their mobile phones on public transport and the more severe problem
was that many locals felt that foreign workers like to stare at females. Anger has erupted over
such problems leading to a misunderstanding of locals and foreigners. Locals try to stay away from
foreigners. Thus there is a communication barrier between locals and some foreigners due to such
social problems that arise.

Living on this Earth as long as you have, can you say that there have been memorable moments

Understanding The General Strain Theory On Crime
Understanding the General Strain Theory on Crime
Codie Bastress
University Wisconsin Oshkosh
Abstract This paper explores Robert Agnew s General Strain Theory by helping to explain what
it is as well as research that has been conducted to support it. A majority of the articles used in
this paper help try and explain or define what GST is as well as attempt to define its components.
This paper will then help better understand some of the research that has been done regarding
GST. These studies will help explain why certain types of strain lead to criminal acts as well as the
effect of negative emotions leading to crime. Another aspect introduces the matter of how people
cope with certain strains by committing crime and reasons behind it. The importance of strains
leading to juvenile delinquency is briefly explained. Next, some limitations on the theory are
provided. These will include recommendations for further studies on the GST along with
explanations as to why policy applications are difficult for this theory. Naturally, weaknesses of the
theory will also be provided within the limitations section. Finally, an application of the general
strain theory will be provided for the film Bernie.
Understanding the General Strain Theory An abundance of research has been conducted on how
Robert Agnew s strain theory can help better understand why crime is committed. However,
limitations to this to theory have come to the surface. Some suggest that

“Girl” Barbie Doll
In the past, women were always considered the subordinate gender that was expected to powder
their nose and stay at home to be a homemaker. Even now, despite the movement to liberate
women from stereotypical gender roles, women are still seen as the inferior gender that is
discriminated against in society. As suggested by the popular Barbie doll created by Mattel, the
idealized image of a womanin our patriarchal society is one who takes care of the home and is
flawlessly beautiful with perfect skin, long legs, small waist, and slender figure. The Barbie doll is
used as a tool for patriarchy in that it reinforces the notion that women should be domestic workers
and maintain a feminine outer appearance. Also, patriarchal values affect girls... Show more content

The fact that this notion of femininity is so deeply rooted in our society, affects women in a
negative way, pressuring them to attain an unrealistic body image and a feminine outer appearance.
Ultimately, this notion that is associated with women leads them to feel inferior and weaker
compared to men.
As young girls grow up surrounded by the perfect image of the Barbie doll, they begin not only
to feel pressured to obtain an idealized body image, but also to believe that it is the norm for
women to be domestic workers. The accessories sold with the Barbie doll illuminate the
implication that women should be domestic workers. For example, the Kitchen Barbie doll
comes fully equipped with pots, cooking utensils, apron, oven mitts, and baked goods. She
comes packaged in a mini kitchen with an oven, refrigerator, and sink. As young girls play with
this doll, they build a positive and fun association with working in the kitchen, and this
encourages them to do the same in the future. In addition, the accessories sold with the Babysitter
Barbie doll also suggest that women should be domestic workers. The accessories sold with this
doll include a television set, DVD, stuffed animal doll, and Kelly. Barbie is responsible of taking
care of Kelly, and this reinforces the notion that women should fulfill the domestic role of
housewife and mother. As young girls grow up surrounded by these dolls, they

I believe that Mary genuinely adored her husband and was a loyal housewife who was betrayed by

North Asi A Relationship With The Western Countries
Throughout history, East Asia has had a relationship with the rest of the world. Sometimes it was
not a positive relationship, but other times it was. China in specific had a trade relationship with the
Western countries, such as America and Great Britain, which developed into a war known as the
Opium War. A relationship with the Western countries at times caused tension in Japan with threats
of imperialism when they did not appreciate that Japan was isolated. The threat of imperialism and
isolation in Japan went hand and hand, Chinaquestioned if they should be isolated or not, and Korea
was isolated with a few exceptions. In the 19th and early 20th century, Japan and China looked on
the people of other countries as uneducated people who would die if Japan or China did not help
them. One of the reasons that they believed this was because Japan and China believed that they
had already been through an enlightenment period that brought them knowledge. They believed that
until other countries when through an enlightenment of their own, they were barbarians and needed
to be taken care of by an already enlightened country such as China or Japan. The citizens of China
during this period questioned if isolation was a valuable choice. They saw that everything they
exported to other countries benefited the citizens of that country in some way, such as how other
countries like Britain could not go a day without tea. Although China had goods that other countries

Everything in education is impacted by the perspective of a biblical worldview because educating a
child is teaching them to know and find truth. According to Knight, Much truth exists outside of the
Bible, but no truth exists outside the metaphysical framework of the Bible. (2006, p. 226). The
concepts of the Bible are used to give a unifying foundation for all subjects taught. The Bible also
becomes the integration point. All content knowledge is contextually interpreted with the Bible
because God is the source of all truthand the one who unifies all truth in Himself. The Bible can be

give meaning or significance to life. Meta narratives, or stories that give definition to a culture or
nation, are power plays based upon deceit, in which leaders use language to create their own
interpretation of truth, for the purpose of domination over others. Human beings, as products of an
evolutionary system, are going nowhere, and are incapable of knowing or discovering truth.
Individuals can only pragmatically create a personal truth with no greater purpose than a truth that
works for them (Hoffecker, 2007).
Epistemological Development in Middle School Students
An important component of a biblical worldview is personal epistemology. An individual s
understanding of how knowledge is achieved and truth discovered. As students progress through
school, they progress through specific stages of epistemological development, evolving increasingly
more sophisticated ways of accepting, justifing and understanding truth.
If worldview development is part of cognitive development, then it will be a gradual process by
which reasoning becomes more sophisticated and complex. At each stage, children will actively
structure and restructure their understanding in a significantly different way. According to Jean
Piaget, at sixth grade, a child s

Identity In Invisible Man
In the book, Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison, the story is told by a narrator, who struggles to
understand his own identity. This is an indefatigable effort, despite he is a black man living in a
racist American society. To understand his true identity, the narrator finds himself passing through
a series of obstacles from being awarded a scholarship, being a member of The Brotherhood, or a
member of Society in general. In each instance human nature sanctions a different idea of how
blacks should behave in society. As the protagonist attempts to understand himself through the
expectations and values imposed on him, in each case, he finds that his prescribed role limits his
complexity, and forces him to play a synthetic and delusive part. One instance that truly articulates
this is the protagonist attendance at the black college. At the college in which the main protagonist
attends, the ideology is simply to seek economic improvement, but at the same time not exclaiming
for equal rights. Also the college implies to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Brotherhood s ideology is also of a scientific approach; not for the individual, but for society

ourselves with tonight destroys everything that has been said before. The audience isn t thinking, it
s yelling its head off (Ellison 115). He rejects the Brotherhood s approach to speech making and is a
huge hit. This quote further illustrates the difference in political philosophy between the narrator
and the Brotherhood. Further, this passage shows the narrator s extremely individual approach,

Possible Underlying Determinant Of Depressive Disorder
An Analysis of Possible Underlying Determinant of Depressive Disorder in Eastern Europe
According to the data collected by WHO in 2012, in Eastern Europe the suicide rate is equal or
greater than 15 suicides per 100,000 populations, which is more severe than other parts of the
world. There have been studies done by researchers in different institutes discussing the factors that
cause this phenomenon.
Background
The countries in Eastern Europe were once know as the United Soviet Socialist Republic, which was
formed soon after Vladimir Lenin seized power in 1922. In 1991, due to political and economic
mismanagement, the union collapsed under General Mikhail Gorvachev. Many split countries

controlling for socioeconomic factors.
Depressive Symptoms in Urban Population Samples in Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic
This is another study done by Pikhart and his colleagues to investigate the rates and distributions
of depressive disorder in urban population in the three Eastern European countries. With the same
method of cross sectional studying, the results show the prevalence of depressive disorder differs
between genders. In men, the prevalence was 23% in Russia, 21% in Poland and 19% in the
Czech Republic; in women the percentages were 44% in Russia, 40% in Poland, and 34% in the
Czech Republic. In general, women scored higher on depression scale than men did. The study also
indicated that depressive disorder were positively associated with material deprivation, marital
status (being unmarried), and drinking status

Essay on Renewable Energy
When the new Southeast Polk High School opened they added many new energy saving products.
This included installing geothermal heating under the high school cutting back on the cost of
heating such a large building. Many new windows help save on energy used to light the building
along with automatic lights that turn off after several minutes without movement. The new high
school shows how easy it is to save money and help the environment. Renewable energyis good for

Some may believe that renewable energy is not beneficial.
In contrast, some believe that renewable energy is a key factor involved in helping the
economy to grow. Many jobs are created in the manufacturing and running of renewable energy
plants. The renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies created 8.5 million new jobs
and $970 billion in revenue in the year 2006 (Langwith, Renewable Energy is Economically ).
The American Solar Energy Society says by 2030 it could generate up to $4.5 trillion in revenue
for the U.S and create 40 million new jobs. This would represent one in every four jobs
(Langwith, Renewable Energy is Economically ). This shows how vital it is to get renewable
energy companies in the U.S. It is important to build a stable economy again and do it all while
helping the environment. The environment is negatively affected be the burning of fossil fuels.
The affects of the gases contribute to global warming, along with acid rain and polluted air. This

Unlike today, the absence of e commerce in the early 2000 s when Blackberry became consumer
focused partially led to the inability to offer a direct to market sales model where consumers can
purchase an unlocked phone directly from Blackberry themselves. Therefore, exporting was not
a main concern for Blackberry before when they faced strong demand. One way or another,
carriers and other middle agents would be motivated to figure out a way to get Blackberry
devices into the hands of consumers since they could get a nice piece of the huge profit pie as
well. Manufacturing of Blackberry was outsourced for a while to factories across the U.S, Mexico,
and Europe in order to meet the huge demand they faced at their peak. Blackberry formed strategic
alliances with numerous Electronic Manufacturing Suppliers (EMS) including their major ones
Elcoteq, Jabil Circuit, Multi Fineline Electronix Inc., Qalcomm Inc., and Marvell Technology

The Legal Drinking Age Should Be During The United States
In recent years, debate about what the legal drinking age should be in the United States has been
ubiquitous. People of all ages advocate both for and against lowering the age, and some people
do not even have an opinion. What has led people to their specific convictions, and what facts do
they possess that support these convictions? In the following paragraphs, this popular
controversy will be addressed as each position is thoroughly analyzed. Many people today
advocate for the drinking age to remain where it is, such as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk
Driving) and the president of the American Public Health Association. MADD has been very
active in recent years, whether it be through lobbying or mass media appeals. They often use
scientific evidence, statistics, and their emotional appeal as mothers of dead children to coerce
their audiences into believing that drunk driving and the drinking age correlate. For example,
Since the 21 law was widely enacted, the number of young people killed annually in crashes
involving drunk drivers under 21 has been cut in half, from more than 5,000 individuals in the
early 1980s to around 2,000 in 2005 (Dean Mooney). Using solid numerical evidence boosts their
appeal to logos, not to mention that these statistics are very easily decipherable. It is obvious to
any reader that, according to this passage, a higher drinking age leads to less fatalities. The author
of the piece mentioned here is also the national president of MADD, which

Globalization Assignment
Written Assignment Unit 7
POLS 1503 Globalization
Introduction
As our world becomes more connected, the free travel of people and goods continue to rise in
dramatic fashion. There are many benefits such as increased trade, improved access to imported
goods, increased tourism and exposure to new cultures. With these benefits comes a risk of bringing
diseases across international borders. International travel and trade has brought new challenges to
public health care, and the threat of deadly illnesses spreading rapidly.
If the movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have such a negative impact on
public health, should steps be taken to reduce these flows?
There are always risks with travel and imports. The benefits to the economy and increased access
to goods are worth the risks. However, in cases of emergency, it is completely reasonable to limit
trade and travel from affected areas. When cases of mad cow disease are detected, it is common to
block imports from the affect nations (Levin Institute, 2017a). During the outbreak of ebola in
Africa in 2014, the Obama administration opted for a temporary travel ban from west
Africa (Roberts, 2014). During the threat of an epidemic spreading across borders, extreme
measures have to be taken.
What other options are there for lowering the spread of global diseases?
International public health officials have made recommendations to help prevent the spread of
disease. These actions include a plan to monitor for new

How Did Sargent Became An Artist
Following the tremendous fame that Sargent had achieved, he grew tired of the demands of his
patrons and decided to close his portrait studio. Portraiture involves a great deal of interaction
between sitter and artist, and Sargent particularly disliked this aspect of portrait painting, stating
that it was a nuisance to have to entertain the sitter and to look happy. By leaving portraits behind,
Sargent was provided with the opportunity to concentrate on different genres of art, as well as
some new techniques, and the drastic change in his focus provided an entirely new range of
expression. The art that he produced later in his career is some of the most intriguing. Finally,
Sargent could experiment more freely. Moreover, after decades of attempting to please others, he
was finally unrestrained in creating art for his own enjoyment. This did not mean that he entirely
stopped making portraits, but it did significantly reduce the number of portraits he produced in his
later years. Among the most celebrated works of his later career are his Biblical murals in The

1925, through the gown and hair of the subject (Fig. 19). Aside from the apparel of the sitter, there

Analysis Of The Play A Doll s House
The period of the nineteenth century until the twentieth century was viewed as a patriarchal male
society and female dependence; women had to obey men because in most cases men held all the
resources and women had no independent means of subsistence. Women were solely controlled by
the society crafted by men and expected to act as a feminine ideal of that period, in addition, women
were supposed to live a highly restrictive life with their life centered round their husband and
subsequently their children. Although, women were supposed to be treated with respect by men,
most men viewed women as weak and having no ability to perform any task. In the play A Doll s
House the character Nora shows how these expectations affect her behavior which reflect her desire
to change the traditional genderroles in the demanding society she was obligated to adhere to.
When a couple got married in this period her property was now her husband s and as a result,
married women were barred from making contracts, appearing as witnesses in court, and initiating
lawsuits. Nora like the wives of her time had to subject to her husband and Nora is often treated as
a superior servant not as an equal; therefore, she lives without self identity and gender equality.
At the beginning of the play, Nora appears to be a silly, naive, childish girl, but then the reader
learns that she has made a great sacrifice to save her husband s life by borrowing money. Nora acts
this way because that is how her husband

Why Shakespearian Text Shouldn t be Taught Have you ever read a page of a book in another

Shakespeare texts should not been taught in high schoolis other text with different cultural

Statistics about too much homework are illuminating: too much homework can lead to being
counterproductive. After a school day, kids come home and do their homework that can cause

Ironing Their Clothes By Alvarez Summary
Analysis on Ironing Their Clothes
In the Alvarez, the author depicts to us a child that has much love for their family.
Although there is little time the child has to spend with the family, it has been made very clear that
the child s house keeping responsibilities show the true love for her family. The daughter has no
way of expressing love to her family so the only way she can convey her emotion is through
ironing her family s clothing. Alvarez conveys life to the apparel of her family and additionally to
the task itself of tending to those garments. She portrays the ragged pieces of clothing of her dad
to be a representation of man himself. Worn out by all the work, his garments show the same ideals.
The errands her mom does, the washing,

Silent Film The Artist And Singin In The Rain
The Artist is a film set in the silent film era that is an almost silent film itself and I found it
incredibly effective that a film about the silent film era is practically silent itself. The lack of
spoken dialogue and diegetic sound makes it ever so clear to the viewer that this movie is about
the silent filmera and it is attempting to make a statement about that style of film. Although the
advent and surge in popularity of talkies has been addressed in other films, such as Singin in the
Rain, The Artist is unique in that it addresses the takeover of talkies in the context of a silent
film. Prior to watching The Artist, I read a short synopsis of the plot, so I somewhat knew what
to expect from the plot of the film and it seemed like a film that I would enjoy. My husband had
seen the film previously, and said that he enjoyed it, but because his opinions of films can differ
so greatly from mine, I wasn t sure how to interpret his enjoyment of the film. Before I watched
The Artist, my expectation was that it would be an enjoyable, interesting almost silent film, with
what feels like a stereotypical plot line ( washed up male character has difficulties acclimating to
life out of the spotlight while also having romantic feelings for up and coming female who
reciprocates romantic feelings;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cinematography and cinematic language were quite effective, and although I initially
suspected that the plot would ultimately be satisfying but stale, I was pleased that it surpassed my
expectations. The plot ended up feeling like a fresh take on an old standard, in large part due to the
setting and the cinematic language used. I generally struggle to ascertain anything beyond the
surface when I am watching films, and I found that by watching The Artist with the intent of
analyzing certain aspects of it, I was more engaged and enjoyed it more than I think I would have

Burning Of Our House By Anne Bradstreet
Hard times get to the best of everybody, no matter what the case is. Hard times could include
losing a family member or close friend, a house fire, losing a job, etc.. Some people believe God
can cure anything and help them get through their situations. In the poem, Here Follow Some
Verses upon the Burning of Our House By Anne Bradstreet, Bradstreet loses all over her
possessions as a result of a house fire. Anne shows her agitated feelings through the beginning of
the poem, but towards the end she tries to adjust her feelings. Bradstreet starts to rely on Godand
another house . Most people would take a house fire a ton worse than Bradstreet does. At the
beginning of the poem, she displays her feelings, clarifying how much she was aching

The History of Kodak Essay
Introduction The History of Kodak The Eastman Kodak Company was established in the 1880 s as
a film business, set on establishing its brand name in the marketplace through customer focused
advertising and growth through research and development and low cost mass production. The
founder, George Eastman, described Kodak s competitive philosophy by commenting that nothing
is more important than the value of our name and the quality it stands for. We must make quality
our fighting argument (Gavetti, Henderson Giorgi, 2005). Kodak s competitive advantage began in
black and white film products, even though the company did produce cameras and camera
equipment as well. As the years progressed, Kodak paid progressively less attention to... Show more

Kodak saw its opportunity for increased sales in the digital mini lab and kiosk markets, allowing
for Kodak to change its business model to accommodate the changing technology of the digital
film age. Issues While Kodak has historically been a well established brand name in the
marketplace, it struggled to find a niche when the industry morphed from a film based market to
a digital based market. Kodak has struggled to successfully evolve its film based business
structure to the new structure of digital based technology, which has allowed for competitors to
enter the market, decreasing Kodak s market share. Competitors (such as Canon Inc., Fuji Photo
Film Co., Hewlett Packard Co., Nikon, and Sony Corp.) have posed major threats to Kodak s
livelihood. Kodak faces a 5% drop in film sales (2001 2003) and a 3% reduction in overall
revenues over the same time period. In addition, revenues and net income are expected to be fairly
flat (or decrease) in future estimates. Kodak faces much pressure to revitalize their business
through digital imaging, a radical innovation, or risk being eaten alive in an industry they thought
they controlled. Approach The issues described must be fully understood in order for a strategic
process to be established that embraces digital technology. Porter s Five Forces Model and a
SWOT Analysis will be used to scrutinize the current marketplace. Once fully analyzed,

When visiting the McKissick Museum I was engrossed by the American Folk Art, ceramic Face
Jugs, also known as ugly or grotesque jugs. There are gaps in the history in regards to how the
face jugs were made, what they were used for, and the meaning of the face vessel pottery.
However it is believed that these vessels were original, useful, creative expressions of the African
slave culture of the time created as early as the seventeenth century. Few artists of facejugs have
been identified and their inspirations for producing the vessels are not completely known.
According to Hirst, it is believed that this art form originated in Edgefield County South Carolina,
from African slaves who worked on the plantations as potters. They worked on... Show more

Face Jugs have become more imaginative and peculiar as they became marketable. Today, either
you love them or hate them. I personally find these jugs intriguing. There is a mystery
surrounding them which make them extremely interesting to me. Because South Carolina is a big
tourists attraction face jugs have attracted the attention of tourists. Replications of face jugs are
made for tourists. They are not used as much for functional use today, as they are more of a
decorative or aesthetic art form. The jugs come in all shapes and sizes with a variety of facial
features and expressions. Many of the faces that I like have a symmetrical balance which, throughout
this course, has caught my attention. The glaze used makes the face jugs shiny and smooth.
Ceramic Face Jugs are different, unique, mysterious, and good conversational pieces.
In summation, face jugs are representations of folk art by African American slaves. There is a lot
that we do not know and will never know about the history of face jugs but they are interesting
pieces of art. These jugs are unique and different no matter if they are used for

The Battle Of Poitiers During The Hundred Year War
The next major battle that occurred during the Hundred Year War was the Battle of Poitiers. The
Battle of Poitiers was a battle that occurred after a six year break from war, warfare broke out
again as Edward III s son, Edward the Black Prince had attacked France in 1356. The French had
a line of defense, however Edward was able to break through the defenses and attacked the
French head on. The current king of France was King John II. Edward the Black Prince was able
to cause a disastrous battle in France and the result of the battle was that Edward the Black
Prince was able to capture King John II (Jean II) as well as almost 2,000 aristocracy members of
France. Edward the Black Prince wanted a ransom. France was at a loss without their king and
did not know what to do so they signed the Treaty of Bretigny in 1360 that states that they would
cede a large amount of northern territory and the shoreline to England. In exchange for this deal,
Edward the Black Prince was required to give up his claim to the throne. After the loss of the
two great generals of England, Edward III and Edward the Black Prince, the French regained
control of most parts of France and in 1389 the two sides signed a true as well as extended the
treaty in 1396 for 28 years. In 1964, The Battle of Auray was the battle where the English forces
under John Chandos besieged Auray and the leader of the French army, Bertrand du Guesclin, was
captured. During this time, the French King known as King Jean II died

about The Unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America . The Declaration of
Independence is a juridical and legal document written sometime between June 11 and June 28,
1776. The reason for that lapse of time is because a draft of the declaration was asked to a group
of five delegates of the Continental Congress on June 11, called The Committee of Five , consisting
of John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of
Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut, but it remains

Americans living in the British colonies didn t feel like living in liberty being under the tyranny of
King George III. Their happiness (the one they once thought they d find leaving the Old World) was
far from being achieved under so many taxes. Jefferson defended the idea that these rights must be
secured by governments instituted by men, and that when these governments become destructive of
these rights, the people have the right to abolish those institutions and to create new ones in order
to secure their principles. Further in this same long second paragraph, Jefferson accuses King
George III (he doesn t name him directly, but it is obvious that he makes him responsible because
King George III was the person holding the highest position in the British Government at that
moment) of despotism, and of having established a tyranny over the States. Thomas Jefferson
enumerates a series of facts to prove the right to dissolve the political bands with the mother
country. Summing up some of the next paragraphs Jefferson refers to the lack of Colonial
representation in the governing British Parliament, and many colonists considered some of the laws
of the British Government to be illegitimate and a violation of their rights as Englishmen, due to the
fact that the British Crown adopted the policy that the colonies should pay an increased proportion

Gillette Gillette, originally founded as American Safety Razor Company, is a world leader in
men grooming products as well as of women. It was founded by King Gillette who in 1895 came
up with the idea of disposable razor after being frustrated by dulled old razors that required
professional honing. He envisioned an inexpensive razor blade combination where blade can be
clamped on the razor and once getting dulled can be replaced. After six years of innovation and
engineering finally in 1901 after joining hands with a MIT machinist, William Nickerson,
American Safety Razor Corp was born. In 1903 company was renamed as Gillette.

Reading And Thought By Dwight Macdonlad
Reading and Thoughts In the essay Reading and Thought , Dwight MacDonlad talked about the
kind of poor reading people are attached to in modern society. MacDonald believed reading
materials such as Times and New York Times are too overwhelming for the readers. Readers tend
to skim through the reading materials because most of the reading do not have any connections
with their daily lives. Moreover, MacDoanld claimed that the readings people do these days are
not thoughtful. The readings are rather irrelevant toward the readers. It is because the journalists to
produce dull pieces of readings which are meant to be skimmed through without having too much
thoughts involved. As the journalists do not have much consideration of the materials they
produced. To the journalists the readings they produce are just a series of news that should be
read driftly and left behind with no thoughful idea needed to be informed. These effects caused
modern society to have a poor reading habits because people do not reflect and give time to think
about the readings they did. Readers casually accept the readings even though they do not have
provide any resourceful information for the readers. Through MacDonald s argument, I agree with
his position in modern society s reading and thoughtprocess. People do have poor reading habits as
the quality of reading starts to rapidly decrease. Nowadays the readings are meant to be done in a
fast pace just by skimming and glancing through the text

This poem is happy and cheerful, it is about love and nature. The poem My Love is presumably
written about Lowell s late wife Maria. In it, Lowell writes about how much he loves this
woman and how perfect and awesome her love is. He talks about how selfless and fair she is,
how kind and wide her heart is, and how she is a blessing to be with. The mood of this poem is
cheerful and appreciative. Summer Storm is about the feeling of everything before a storm,
what it s like to be in a storm, and the calm a storm has when it parts. Lowell uses so much
imagery in this piece that it makes the reader feel like they are in the storm. Another poem by
Lowell is called The Moon, he compares the moon to his soul. The tone of this poem is very sad,
angry, and lonely. It seemed like his personal tragedies may have prompted him to write this
piece. Lastly, there is Song, which is about a fair bud of a lily. The sun, wind, and rain take care
of it and it grows into a beautiful woman flower, but sadly and suddenly it is struck by death
during the process of its growth. One may inquire that this poem may have been prompted by
one of his person tragedies. Most of Lowell s works were effected by the joyful and the tragic
events that were afoot in his life. For example. My Love was written about his the love of his life,
and The First Snowfall was prompted by the death of his children. His works were also influenced
by the events in his time,

Compare And Contrast Grant Vs Lee
Grant vs. Lee Amongst the civil war generals, Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee, were the most
famous ones. Lee lead the Confederate Army for 4 years of fighting until their surrender, while
Grant used impressive military tactics to win the war for the Union. These were strong man, these
oddly different generals, which represented the power of two conflicting forces that through them
had come into a final collision that would change the entire direction of a nation. Even though the
two went to West Point, a prestigious military academy, and may seem alike, these two men were
completely different. Ulysses S. Grantwas born on April 27th 1822, in Point Pleasant, Ohio. He was
the first son of the tanner and businessman Jesse Grant and Hannah Grant. Aside from being an
exceptional horseman, Ulysses didnВґt actually possess any great military skills. He was known for

left Lee and his mother alone. This decision affect Robert because he was convinced that he had
to prove his honor and clean the stain that followed his name. He studied at the West Point
Military Academy and graduated second in his class. The generals first met at the Mexican War,
when they took part in General Scott s expedition from Vera Cruz to Mexico City. After war, the
two choose similar paths. In 1854, Grant resigned from the army and went home to his wife and
kids, while Lee also went home to manage his family s plantation, but things wouldn t be this calm
for so long. In 1859, Lee returned to army and was expected to run the Union army if the nation
shall go to war. Grant only returned to the military after the attack of Fort

This includes home and auto loans, as well as personal loans. Another functional area in the

Memorable Villainy In Othello
The concept of villain brings to one s mind as one who is opposite to the hero, creating difficulties
and hurdles for the latter to overcome. A literary villain, on the other hand, is one who is
unchanging with regards to his goals unless an overwhelming force, physical or psychological
compels him to do so. In subtle villainy, the villain is cunning, crafty, intellectual, malicious and
harmful. Rather than merely waiting for a tragedy to happen, subtle villains would have developed
a clear plan based on a definite objective in mind and would ensure the progress of their plans by
devising appropriate strategies, ensuring proper timing, evaluating continuously at various stages
and monitoring its meticulous implementation with enough courage, patience and perseverance.
Iagofrom the famous classic Othello, the Moor of Venice written by William Shakespeare and
Sakuni, from the epic Mahabharata written by Veda Vyasa, are the best representatives of subtle
villainy. Iago can be regarded as the most powerful among Shakespeare s evil characters. He is

best friend, I wasn t worried. Calls down to the office are just usually minor things. That s what I

Ruby ran up to me after school that day with her face creased with worry. She explained that she
was suspected of stealing the 7th grade student files, a crime that was committed a day earlier. I
knew she never did it. She said that Lexi Marker, a girl in our grade was the one that turned her
in. Lexi was a very popular girl, but loved attention (too much), and so probably just wanted to put

  • 2. Government Control Gun Control The second part of reforming the Republican Party involves enacting stricter gun regulations to decrease the amount of gun violence in the United States. The official policy from the Republican platform believes that all law abiding citizens should have the right to own guns (2016 Republican Party Platform). However, recent mass shootings in California and Texas has called into question on whether the regulations that are in place are enough, or if there should be tougher background checks and restrictions on guns. The Republican Party s current stance on these recent shootings has caused a massive backlash from the media and the public, which is resulting in a rapid decrease in popularity. The American public is dismayed when they turn on the news and see reports of another mass shooting causing unnecessary deaths because of gun violence and Republican politicians are attacked on the media for not taking the necessary action of stricter gun regulations. However, with this new stance the Republicans will now support more detailed background checks and restrict the type of guns that can be owned by regular citizens. This will be heavily supported by most liberal groups but disapproved by the almost all conservative groups. Groups like the Solid Liberals, Faith and Family Left, and the Next Generation Left believe that the government controlling gun ownership should be implemented due to the increase of mass shootings. However, groups that are far right, the Young Outsiders, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Which Social Forces Influence My Choice In A Mate When I first read the question Which social forces influence my choice in a mate, the first thing that came to mind was not sex, age, race, or social class. At first I didn t think these were factors in choosing a mate, but after reading about it more, this is actually the main factors people look at when choosing a mate. As I began to think which factors matter to me, I quickly realized that sex, age, race, and social class all matter to me. Also there is another very important factor that matters when choosing a mate and that is religion. My familyraised me in a Southern Baptist Church all my life, so religion would be another factor that influenced my choice in a mate. When I have a child, I don t think I would want to tell them who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Circle of Conflict and the Triangle of Satisfaction Models Introduction This paper will discuss two different conflict models and how they may be used to diagnose a particular conflict. Each model will be described in a way, which better helps understand the conflict. Potential confidentiality issues within the conflict will be described as well. Both the Circle of Conflict and the Triangle of Satisfaction Models are both effective tools at assisting a practitioner at diagnosing and resolving conflict. Circle of Conflict model The Circle of Conflict model is the simplest method of figuring out the root cause of a conflict. The circle implements five possible drivers of conflict that are values, relationships, externals/moods, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Carolyn and Nick would work around the supervisor Nick would accept Carolyn s decisions, Carolyn believes he did this because his supervisor was around and he wanted to appear as though he was a team player. The night that Carolyn was asked to be shift lead, not just by her co workers but also by Nick, Carolyn thought that she would be making the final decision and be supported by Nick and her fellow co workers. Carolyn and Nicks relationship has been deteriorating and was now to the point that both asked to be placed on different shifts. The relationship between Carolyn and Nick had progressed beyond workplace conflict and now negative personal feelings developed escalating the conflict. Externals/Moods On the milieu, there has been change. The inconsistency and negative relationship between the two staff members have allowed the residents to detect that there is not a leader and when there is no leader, the resident s mood shifted to suspicion and distrust in the staff. The other co workers chose not to get involved too much. Since there seems not to be a clear leader for the shift, a resident becomes argumentative when bedtime is announced. The mood of the whole facility has shifted to feelings of negativity creating an unsettling atmosphere not only for the staff members but for the residents as well. • 5. Nursing Is A Essential For Care For Individuals, Families,... Nursing is a valuable profession in which nurses provide care for individuals, families, and community groups. In order to be a successful nurse, a person has to be able to combine people skills like communication, compassion, commitment, and trust with an adequate amount of science and new technology knowledge. On the other hand, nurses are highly responsible for educating their patients about different medication, diseases, treatments, and healthy lifestyle choices to help clients maintain and improve their health and well being. Nursing consists of a wide range of specialties and practices among which every nurse can choose depends on her/his interest and skills. Personally, I am really interested in working on the Coronary Care unit and eager to learn more about this specialty. Coronary care unit is a specialty department that provides care for patients with coronary artery diseases, heart failure, and life threatening dysrhythmias which requires continued monitoring of the patient s condition. According to J. Edgar Caswell (1967), the first coronary care area in the United States opened at Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, Kans., in May 1962. By the beginning of summer 1962, the Heart Disease Control Program initiated major efforts toward establishing specialized coronary care units for patients with acute myocardial infarction. It was at that time that the name coronary care unit received its impetus as a specialized entity. (p. 1105). The invention of coronary care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On The Lottery If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is. Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket. The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets, and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be given to schools. Initially, the state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of the Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using that money on things that we already have. They are using this money for local transportation, teacher retirement funds, and sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Insomnia Sleep is considerably one of the most beneficial things there is for our health. It improves several functions of our body and affects our overall mood. However, not many people get the amount of sleep needed every night. Several factors can influence that, including disorders. According to a study done by Columbia University, 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from a sleeping disorder. About 30 percent of these people are struggling with insomnia ( What is Insomnia? ). Insomnia is the inability to get quality sleep during the night. Insomnia occurs when someone has a hard time falling asleep or sleeping through the night. It can affect someone for a short period of time; others may suffer for months, or even years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therapy and medications are recommended as treatment. Stressful events, traveling in different time zones, or illnesses may trigger this disorder because the person s body is not used to different environments or situations they might have recently faced. Keeping a constant routine is an ideal way to avoid missing out on the much needed sleep to feel refreshed (Insomnia). It is also advised that people manage their stress in a healthy way in order to get the recommended eight hours of sleep every night. Some of these ways include being social in a more positive way, regularly exercising, taking time for yourself to relax, or coping in a more spiritual way. It is recommended that you relax by lying down in a comfortable, quiet room. Focusing on your breathing for several minutes and meditating can help your brain slow down and the rest of your body will be able to rest. The National Sleep Foundation found that 90 percent of Americans regularly use electronics before bed. Smart phones are linked to having trouble falling asleep and interrupting sleep (Helmer). The unnatural light triggers brain activity, when you are supposed to be winding down for the night. The phone light fools with the chemicals in the brain that encourage sleep. Melatonin is the hormone that keeps a constant internal clock in the sleep cycle. Studies have shown that up to two hours of electronic light exposure decreased melatonin levels by nearly 22 ... • 8. Rhetorical Analysis Essay On Discovery Channel One with the Planet Earth is the only planet known to support life. This life has created millions of different species, all part of a complex food chain and all with a distinct niche. These species all have differing habitats, ranging from freezing tundras and parched deserts to vast oceans and lavish rainforests. Among these species, one seems to overpower every other: homosapiens. Humans have made it their duty to find a way to survive in all sorts of environments, to explore every inch of the planet, and to make the best of what they discover. There are so many things to do, so many things to create, that humans are still working to reach their full potential. One such network that shows everything there is to show is Discovery Channel. In one commercial ad, Discovery Channel uses strong persuasion skills and rhetorical devices to make viewers feel that the Earth is amazing and that the entire human race is one large planet loving group of people, all while luring people to watch their programs. • 9. Summary Of American Jewry The American Civil War was, with the exception of the presence of Loyalists during the American Revolution, the only time in American history that neighbor turned against neighbor in both widespread physical violence and enmity of the heart. This was true of the entire nation, but even more so of American Jewry. American Jewry was a very small percentage of the American population at the start of the war in 1861. During the conflict it was forced to confront its own differences during the Civil War; the politics, policies and emotions of the war acting as a great revealer which exposed the fractured unity of the tiny ethno religious group in America. While the war exposed this fracturing, it simultaneously exposed the commonalities that American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his chapter The Rabbis and the Slavery Question , Bertram Wallace Korn notes how Judaisms religious ideals and principles were interpreted in widely disparate ways when a crucial issue faced the entire nation ; in the case of the Civil War that is interpreted according to geographic sentiments and the ideologies that went along with them(slavery). With the exception of New York City, whose general sentiments regarding slavery went along with the anti abolitionist sermons of Dr. Morris J. Raphall and articles of Mordecai M. Noah, Northern Jewry tended to be abolitionist while Southern followed their Christian neighbor s in extolling the virtues of slavery. The reason for this kind of outlook is not surprising in the least, as any minority people will invariably take up the majority culture as a means of survival. However, Jews were [possibly] more prone to this throughout their stay in the early United States, as Rabbinic Judaism has always championed that the law of the land is the law when living in the diaspora; a teaching which would ultimately justify the beliefs and actions of both sides to themselves. In Shifting Veils , Diane Ashton posits that especially in the nineteenth century Jews throughout the United States borrowed and adopted the attitudes common to the regions in which they lived . For years prior to the Civil War no Jew wanted to appear disloyal to their majority Christian neighbors (many of whom regarded them with suspicion) or to their country, and as such did everything they could to adopt the culture and beliefs of their region [either out of sincere belief or desire to blend in ]. A state of war only heightened the differences within American Jewry that had been present all along, and pushed them forth into the wider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common war shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For instance, many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change the way things are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their lives are, but there are some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In My Fair Lady and Miss Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements intertwined within both films through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting. The characters of both films are revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality. When looking at Eliza and Gracie, not only do they display the protagonist archetype, but they also show how someone not so ladylike can be transformed into one of nature s most beautiful creatures a lady. However, becoming a lady was a long, winding road with many bumps in the way, yet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both my current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University. In order to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear people s views. This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken, taking note both the person s body language and tone of voice. An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their packing at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them. Customers often do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language and facial expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task, involves constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s requirements and needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a colleague customer relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company. Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to other people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes . I use first names where appropriate, this helps to build a relationship with the person I am talking to, making them my equal. • 13. Analysis Of Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway A key belief within our society is that there are many sides to any story, and to gain full understanding, one more confront and engage with all aspects. There are instances, however, when the scope of the story makes the full truth unattainable. This is the case of World War I. The Great War was nearly impossible to understand while it was taking place, and although nearly one hundred years have passed, little concrete clarity has been achieved regarding the overall truths and experiences of this war. Claire Tylee, a historian who focuses on the woman s role in World War I, highlights the ineffable aspect of the war even for the most skilled authors, saying that: reviewing a novel in 1917, Virginia Woolfsuggested that the War was... This was a war that touched every aspect of human life, even diluting something as pure as love. Living with another but in internal isolation became extremely common because: all wars divide divide not only our side from theirs, but soldiers from civilians, men from women, one generation from another, war lovers from war haters. These divisions don t end with the war s last shot: they continue into the following years... (Hynes, 337). The Great War created a new kind of love story, thus reflecting the truths and lasting impacts on all corners of society. After this war, the previous perception of love was no longer attainable, as each individual lived in the harsh reality brought upon by extreme isolation of experience. The climate upon returning home can be understood by observing the strain in even the closest relationships, thus showing the isolation endured within society. Since Septimus and Rezia met during wartime, their relationship fit within the context of chaos, so when placed in a quiet city, the relationship that they had built crumbled. This partially was due to inconsistency in experience, as it was impossible to understand what someone else had gone through. Septimus, for example, had lost his best friend and lover in battle, yet had never let himself confront these feelings. Rezia, on the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foreigners are considered to be a double edged sword by many Singaporeans. The impact that foreigners have on Singapore can be classified in terms of education, economic, social and political impact. Thus, there is no need for local students to worry about the rise in the number of foreign students. Hence, it is not entirely right to say that the influx of foreign students in Singapore will deprive our local students of opportunities in the field of academia. Another negative social impact is that they reinforce prejudices about immigrants in certain quarters. The way of living of some foreigners leads to the locals becoming upset over. For example, talking loudly in public, spitting and being unhygienic are some of the habits that Singaporeans find themselves uncomfortable with. This is especially so for the lowly skilled workers who forget that they are in a developed country and behave the way they do in their villages or homes. For example, the Straits Times covered new about social problems brought about by foreign workers. Many locals respondents mentioned things like workers getting heavily drunk at night and chatting away loudly at the void decks of Housing Development Board (HDB) flats. They also complained of workers talking loudly on their mobile phones on public transport and the more severe problem was that many locals felt that foreign workers like to stare at females. Anger has erupted over such problems leading to a misunderstanding of locals and foreigners. Locals try to stay away from foreigners. Thus there is a communication barrier between locals and some foreigners due to such social problems that arise. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understanding The General Strain Theory On Crime Understanding the General Strain Theory on Crime Codie Bastress University Wisconsin Oshkosh Abstract This paper explores Robert Agnew s General Strain Theory by helping to explain what it is as well as research that has been conducted to support it. A majority of the articles used in this paper help try and explain or define what GST is as well as attempt to define its components. This paper will then help better understand some of the research that has been done regarding GST. These studies will help explain why certain types of strain lead to criminal acts as well as the effect of negative emotions leading to crime. Another aspect introduces the matter of how people cope with certain strains by committing crime and reasons behind it. The importance of strains leading to juvenile delinquency is briefly explained. Next, some limitations on the theory are provided. These will include recommendations for further studies on the GST along with explanations as to why policy applications are difficult for this theory. Naturally, weaknesses of the theory will also be provided within the limitations section. Finally, an application of the general strain theory will be provided for the film Bernie. Even now, despite the movement to liberate women from stereotypical gender roles, women are still seen as the inferior gender that is discriminated against in society. As suggested by the popular Barbie doll created by Mattel, the idealized image of a womanin our patriarchal society is one who takes care of the home and is flawlessly beautiful with perfect skin, long legs, small waist, and slender figure. The Barbie doll is used as a tool for patriarchy in that it reinforces the notion that women should be domestic workers and maintain a feminine outer appearance. The fact that this notion of femininity is so deeply rooted in our society, affects women in a negative way, pressuring them to attain an unrealistic body image and a feminine outer appearance. Ultimately, this notion that is associated with women leads them to feel inferior and weaker compared to men. As young girls grow up surrounded by the perfect image of the Barbie doll, they begin not only to feel pressured to obtain an idealized body image, but also to believe that it is the norm for women to be domestic workers. The accessories sold with the Barbie doll illuminate the implication that women should be domestic workers. For example, the Kitchen Barbie doll comes fully equipped with pots, cooking utensils, apron, oven mitts, and baked goods. She comes packaged in a mini kitchen with an oven, refrigerator, and sink. As young girls play with this doll, they build a positive and fun association with working in the kitchen, and this encourages them to do the same in the future. In addition, the accessories sold with the Babysitter Barbie doll also suggest that women should be domestic workers. Sometimes it was not a positive relationship, but other times it was. China in specific had a trade relationship with the Western countries, such as America and Great Britain, which developed into a war known as the Opium War. A relationship with the Western countries at times caused tension in Japan with threats of imperialism when they did not appreciate that Japan was isolated. The threat of imperialism and isolation in Japan went hand and hand, Chinaquestioned if they should be isolated or not, and Korea was isolated with a few exceptions. In the 19th and early 20th century, Japan and China looked on the people of other countries as uneducated people who would die if Japan or China did not help them. One of the reasons that they believed this was because Japan and China believed that they had already been through an enlightenment period that brought them knowledge. They believed that until other countries when through an enlightenment of their own, they were barbarians and needed to be taken care of by an already enlightened country such as China or Japan. The citizens of China during this period questioned if isolation was a valuable choice. According to Knight, Much truth exists outside of the Bible, but no truth exists outside the metaphysical framework of the Bible. (2006, p. 226). The concepts of the Bible are used to give a unifying foundation for all subjects taught. The Bible also becomes the integration point. All content knowledge is contextually interpreted with the Bible because God is the source of all truthand the one who unifies all truth in Himself. The view that truth is subjective and personally defined creates a world without a meta narrative or overarching story to give meaning or significance to life. Meta narratives, or stories that give definition to a culture or nation, are power plays based upon deceit, in which leaders use language to create their own interpretation of truth, for the purpose of domination over others. Human beings, as products of an evolutionary system, are going nowhere, and are incapable of knowing or discovering truth. Individuals can only pragmatically create a personal truth with no greater purpose than a truth that works for them (Hoffecker, 2007). Epistemological Development in Middle School Students An important component of a biblical worldview is personal epistemology. An individual s understanding of how knowledge is achieved and truth discovered. As students progress through school, they progress through specific stages of epistemological development, evolving increasingly more sophisticated ways of accepting, justifing and understanding truth. If worldview development is part of cognitive development, then it will be a gradual process by which reasoning becomes more sophisticated and complex. At each stage, children will actively structure and restructure their understanding in a significantly different way. According to Jean Piaget, at sixth grade, a child s ... People of all ages advocate both for and against lowering the age, and some people do not even have an opinion. What has led people to their specific convictions, and what facts do they possess that support these convictions? In the following paragraphs, this popular controversy will be addressed as each position is thoroughly analyzed. Many people today advocate for the drinking age to remain where it is, such as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and the president of the American Public Health Association. MADD has been very active in recent years, whether it be through lobbying or mass media appeals. They often use scientific evidence, statistics, and their emotional appeal as mothers of dead children to coerce their audiences into believing that drunk driving and the drinking age correlate. For example, Since the 21 law was widely enacted, the number of young people killed annually in crashes involving drunk drivers under 21 has been cut in half, from more than 5,000 individuals in the early 1980s to around 2,000 in 2005 (Dean Mooney). Using solid numerical evidence boosts their appeal to logos, not to mention that these statistics are very easily decipherable. • 31. How Did Sargent Became An Artist Following the tremendous fame that Sargent had achieved, he grew tired of the demands of his patrons and decided to close his portrait studio. Portraiture involves a great deal of interaction between sitter and artist, and Sargent particularly disliked this aspect of portrait painting, stating that it was a nuisance to have to entertain the sitter and to look happy. By leaving portraits behind, Sargent was provided with the opportunity to concentrate on different genres of art, as well as some new techniques, and the drastic change in his focus provided an entirely new range of expression. The art that he produced later in his career is some of the most intriguing. Finally, Sargent could experiment more freely. Moreover, after decades of attempting to please others, he was finally unrestrained in creating art for his own enjoyment. This did not mean that he entirely stopped making portraits, but it did significantly reduce the number of portraits he produced in his later years. • 35. Analysis Of The Play A Doll s House The period of the nineteenth century until the twentieth century was viewed as a patriarchal male society and female dependence; women had to obey men because in most cases men held all the resources and women had no independent means of subsistence. Women were solely controlled by the society crafted by men and expected to act as a feminine ideal of that period, in addition, women were supposed to live a highly restrictive life with their life centered round their husband and subsequently their children. Although, women were supposed to be treated with respect by men, most men viewed women as weak and having no ability to perform any task. In the play A Doll s House the character Nora shows how these expectations affect her behavior which reflect her desire to change the traditional genderroles in the demanding society she was obligated to adhere to. When a couple got married in this period her property was now her husband s and as a result, married women were barred from making contracts, appearing as witnesses in court, and initiating lawsuits. Nora like the wives of her time had to subject to her husband and Nora is often treated as a superior servant not as an equal; therefore, she lives without self identity and gender equality. At the beginning of the play, Nora appears to be a silly, naive, childish girl, but then the reader learns that she has made a great sacrifice to save her husband s life by borrowing money. Nora acts this way because that is how her husband ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Memorable Villainy In Othello The concept of villain brings to one s mind as one who is opposite to the hero, creating difficulties and hurdles for the latter to overcome. A literary villain, on the other hand, is one who is unchanging with regards to his goals unless an overwhelming force, physical or psychological compels him to do so. In subtle villainy, the villain is cunning, crafty, intellectual, malicious and harmful. Rather than merely waiting for a tragedy to happen, subtle villains would have developed a clear plan based on a definite objective in mind and would ensure the progress of their plans by devising appropriate strategies, ensuring proper timing, evaluating continuously at various stages and monitoring its meticulous implementation with enough courage, patience and perseverance. Iagofrom the famous classic Othello, the Moor of Venice written by William Shakespeare and Sakuni, from the epic Mahabharata written by Veda Vyasa, are the best representatives of subtle villainy. • 54. Ruby Mine Short Story Ruby Mines, please come to the office. A voice said over the intercom. Even though Ruby was my best friend, I wasn t worried. Calls down to the office are just usually minor things. That s what I thought. But, as I was about to discover, they could also be major. Ruby ran up to me after school that day with her face creased with worry. She explained that she was suspected of stealing the 7th grade student files, a crime that was committed a day earlier. I knew she never did it. She said that Lexi Marker, a girl in our grade was the one that turned her in. Lexi was a very popular girl, but loved attention (too much), and so probably just wanted to put the spotlight on her. I really didn t want to have to be involved in a mystery, they re ... I got a new phone. she said. Oh, but, why would you need to. Yeah! Why would you do that when you just could go home and use your phone, since you were the one that stole your phone. I retorted. No... she started, but stopped when Mr. Johnston glared at her. Silence. he said. Rose, thank you. I ll talk to you later. The next half hour was Lizzi trying to get out of confessing. Eventually, he found out that she was behind it all just because she wanted to get Ruby kicked off the basketball team. Lizzi was so annoying! She said she didn t like how good Ruby was because she didn t want Ruby to take her spot on the A team. This was probably the only logical thing she ever did, although it was mean. I m sure Ruby will be a little scared when she hears that Lizzi thought she was good enough to kick her off the team! Lizzi was forced to hand everything over, including her spot on the basketball team, but I couldn t sit and ponder that long. I was wondering was how long I would have to wait before telling Ruby everything. Although, I really considered running to tell her right then, I discovered it wouldn t be worth the trouble. Right after Lizzi was sent home for out of school suspension, I heard, Ruby Mines, please come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
