Antisocial Personality Behavior Essay
Antisocial Personality Behavior
When we define abnormal behavior we must keep in mind that normal differs from culture to culture.
What it is normal for a person from India is completely strange for a person from Europe, Colombia or
Japan. To determine whether a person s behavior is abnormal psychologist use three basic criteria as
follows: Deviation from statistical norms and social norms, maladaptive behavior, and personal
distress. If the individual s behavior is considered abnormal , mental health professionals use the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) as a methodical tool to aid in the
diagnosis and treatment of the patient. This paper will focus on the exploration of personality disorder

Axis ? refers to the description of symptoms that causes significant impairment. Axis II defines long
term problems that are unnoticed in the presence of Axis I disorders. Personality disorders can have a
deep effect on how a patient relates to the world, for example antisocial personality disorder. Axis III
offers information about any medical conditions that could be present. Axis IV describes the
psychosocial and environmental factors influencing the person. Axis V allows the clinician to rate the
client s overall level of functioning. It uses a rating scale called the Global Assessment of Functioning
(GAF). This rating scale goes from 0 to 100 and provides a way to summarize how well the person is
functioning overall.

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting operation
productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment can also impact
negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive
impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative
aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints
in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects
of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based
on interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use of
published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes many
disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development, education, psychology,
and studies of social movements and organizations, among others. According to the definition of The
World Bank, empowerment is providing individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them
to make educated choices so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making.
Hopefully these decisions will not

Importance Of Drinking Water Essay
Rural India has more than 700 million people residing in about 1.42 million habitations spread over 15
diverse ecological regions. Meeting the drinking water needs of such a large population can be a
daunting task. The non uniformity in level of awareness, socio economic development, education,
poverty, practices and rituals and water availability add to the complexity of the task. Despite an
estimated total of Rs. 1,105 billion spent on providing safe drinking water since the First Five Year
Plan was launched in 1951, lack of safe and clean drinking water continues to be a major obstacle and
a national economic burden.
Around 37.7 million Indians are affected by waterborne diseases annually; 1.5 million children are
estimated to die of diarrhoea alone in each year.
In our constitution the provision of safe drinking water has been given utmost priority, with Article 47
conferring the duty of providing clean drinking water and improving public health standards to the
State. The government has undertaken various programmes and policies since independence to
provide safe drinking water to the rural population. Till the 10th plan, an estimated total of Rs.1,105
billion spent on providing secure drinking water. One would argue that the expenditure is huge but it
is also true that despite such expenditure lack of safe and secure drinking water continues to be a
major issue and challenge for our country.
On one hand the pressures of development is changing the distribution of

Guys Like Gauguin
In the title of her poem Guys like Gauguin Marsh refers to Gauguin as a guy which is closely followed
by a sarcastic thanks Bougainville without capitalising the thanks. Together the techniques of
anaphora and informal language create a compounding effect, by referring to these colonisers and the
direct address towards Gauguin diminishing his achievements and many other celebrated European
discovers who have exploited foreign countries through invasion. marsh being a tuvaluan and samoan
descent, applies a dismissive yet hostile tone towards the idea highlighting the negative impact of
European control on pasifika ways of life and especially women in Tahiti. Her anger towards these
European civilizations is seen when she s talking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two combined techniques adds to the effect of how women from Tahiti are being over
sexuilised and made out to be animalistic throughout the whole poem in order to give the reader an
overall theme of exploitation of women. Marsh makes ironic use of positive connotations such as
delectably when describing the breasts of the Tahitian girls to heighten the erotic pleasure these men
find in these young girls. However the most unnerving line is when she uses a simile in ripen like paw
paw to add to the already unpleasant objectification of young women as sexual objects through the
metaphor of fruit which are best slightly raw very tempting to them. Marsh uses this to show how
sexually driven these european colonists such as gauguin where to these polynesian women. It also
sets the ideas of how these women women were desirable from a young age and Gauguin states that
for his reasoning behind sleeping with all of these women, as if it was not his fault. This leads me to
believe that Gauguin only sees these women as objects, not as people, which is an indication in a lot of
his artwork. We can also see how in this patriarchal world, men are able to act out their desires
without considering the scale of destruction they unleash on women or heritage cultures. Audre lorde
expresses a similar sentiment in her speech The master s tools will never dismantle the master s
house(1979) where she is telling us to reclaim reclaim our stolen tools, and to not cower in fear of the
master. But instead to stand up and break the false Consensus that limits our options. This showed
how difficult it was for these polynesian women to stand alone in a period where women were being
treated unfairly. The master s tools were in lords vision the inability to see or act beyond the norms of
the culture which despised or at best allowed difference and put

I recommend the book Firestarter because the book has so much excitement. The book also has a lot
of mystery. you don t know what will happen next and you don t know what happened back in the

Depicting on whether the flag burning is protected by the First Amendment the answer would be no

believes the flag is a symbol a representation of its special role to society and political reasoning, there

The sun sets on the port communities and the sky glows orange yellow purple and blue, not the

effecting every port and surrounding community. From the first ships that set sail to the super tankers
of today shipping product by ocean going vessel is the most effective way. With all the positives of
ocean trading the major negative is the fact that the exhaust is polluting the very air we breathe. The
poor air quality is directly responsible for serious health issues and the people in the port communities

Who lives in the ports
The Poor aren t the only ones to live in the ports. Some global estimation has more than half the global
population living on the 10% of land mass near the coasts (Crowell, Edelman and Coulton). By 2025,
that figure is likely to double. Is the sheer number of people the reason for the pollution? No it is not
the reason for the pollution but it does contribute. In fact the population growth is Great for the
shipping industry, just putting a larger demand for the most efficient way to transport goods. The
regulation of air pollution is a constant struggle, the more people the more pollution and the dense
populations of low Socio economic status s around ports should not be overlooked. The people who
live there should not have to worry about the air that they breathe as they go to work to provide a
better life. Too bad here in Southern California the port demographic according to EPA, says that 92

Schivelbusch talks about how those substances have been first introduce to the Western nations and

Herbert Hoover s Time in Office
It was somewhat easy for him to get into the White House in 1929. There were a number of
occurrences that helped him to be the president. Calvin Coolidge, the president in 1928, announced
not to run for another presidency term. Hoover was naturally considered the presumptive Republican
nominee for President. There was no great opposition, and he did not have to invest his time on
campaigning to win the nomination. The election of 1928 went easy for him. The Democrat nominee
was Al Smite, New York governor and a catholic. The country was not ready for a Catholic president.
Hoover won 58% of the popular vote and 40 of the 48 states. He literally dominated the election. If I
were a voter at the time, he would also vote for him without doubt. Simply, there were no better
candidates who could beat over Hoover. He also did impressive public works for the government and
citizens. In 1928, he deserved the result. During his presidency, he had plans for his administration.
Among those plans, I believe the most successful one was building a dam in Boulder Canyon of the
Colorado River, which is now called Hoover Dam. Besides this, there was nothing noticeable and
effective accomplishment. I can see what he tried to do to get away from the Great Depression and to
return the economy to the state before the market crash, but his actions were not smart and effective
enough to save the economy. If I were a part of the society during his presidency, I would feel
betrayed because, according

Living Conditions ( World Bank )
living conditions (World Bank). The rationale behind the large loan is the boost in temporary
employment, the importance of using municipal government agents, and overall implementing
structural changes that in turn would transform the state of Gabon in the long run. Other actions that
have been taken include implementing social safety nets as a form of addressing the poverty
associated with inequality. Programs such as Carte d indigent only focused on short term transfers
such as free medicine, food, family allowance, and cash in order to temporarily reduce the number of
those under the poverty line (World Bank PRE). Unfortunately, these transfers were solely dependent
on government funding and the shrinking social budget made the program practically worthless today.
An emphasis can also be placed on the roots of inequality; poor governance with faulty transparency
and a regime with various ties to privileged inner circles in France and domestically, leads the World
Bank to classify Gabon as a rent based economy (World Bank PRE). The emphasis on rent denotes the
importance of how much inequality actually influence the economy in Gabon, especially when those
additional profits come from manipulation of the rules and institutions to begin with. It is also
important to note that the distinctions between urban and rural poverty have yet to be officially
documented through an effective survey or metric. The reality is that a significant majority of Gabon

Las Vegas Housing Market Crash of 2006, who is to blame?
By
Tina Beach
In the United States, the lending industry s lack of aggressive monitoring was a big part of the housing
market crash of 2006. The Las Vegas housing market, once a booming industry in 2003 to 2005, is
now one of the top 3 cities in foreclosure properties. I sat with Suzanne Pashnick to get her take on
what happened, who is to be blamed and what can be done for the city to recover. Suzanne has been in
the real estate field since 1995 and began her career in Michigan. In 2005, she moved to Las Vegas
and continued her career in real estate and is currently an agent for CENTURY 21 MoneyWorld and

The public was uneducated in how the process worked but seemed not to be bothered because it got
them into the house. They don t want a mortgage, they want a home. A home they can raise a family,
build equity, build a life, have a sense of freedom. That boom market gave it to them. The lenders
probably told them to just sign here for now and we ll get your mortgage down to where you really

would crash as it did, are you prepared? No, because who is thinking that your home is losing value,
that people are going to lose their jobs or that the economy would turn into a recession. Not the banks
or the public thought that. The perception was that the market was going to go up or stay steady, so the
homeowners were going to be able to refinance and get rid of their current payment. People were
going to make more money, they were going to get a raise in a couple years at their jobs and
everything would be better. So when the homeowners refinanced their loan they would get a fixed rate
mortgage for 30 years. But that never happened.

A Clockwork Orange Dialectical Journal Essay
A Clockwork Orange
Journal 1: pages 3 56 I found the first section of the novel, A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
to be confusing, but at the same time interesting. Burgess ideas were organized and thorough in each
chapter. The use of foreshadowing was used at the end of the first chapter implying violent acts
throughout the rest of the section. The constant use of slang called, Nadsat threw off my focus while
reading due to the distraction of flipping back and forth from the glossary back to the novel. Burgess
uses the slang to alienate what is occurring in the novel, especially the brutality of it. I noticed that
even though horrendous events are described I did not stop reading because the use of slang kept me

Acousmatic Sounds In Cinema
Acousmatic sounds in cinema are those sounds that are present without a visible source. The sounds
are aural elements used in the film and embody a spatial quality within themselves. Acousmatic and
non acousmatic sounds are essential in cinema because they provide the spectator with a better
understanding of the film through both visuals and sound. Michel Chion explores the idea of the
acousmatic sound in his essay The Voice in Cinema where he talks about Acousmatic sounds in
conjunction with religion where the priests/ religious leaders would often sit behind a curtain and
deliver speeches. Chion draws ideas from Psychoanalysis and connects it with acousmatic sounds. In
the context of psychoanalysis, the therapist s voice is a substitute of an acousmatic sound when the
patient is in a state of hypnosis. The idea of an acousmatic sound can be understood with the example
of a radio. The voice of a radio jockey is acousmatized since it doesn t have a visible source but the
presence of the radio jockey helps us to imagine a kind of presence through the medium of sound.
Chion points out that if we study a film by only listening to the sound and removing the visuals, it ...

One of the most important reason for Candide to want to marry Cundegonde is that he wants to keep
his promise and doesn t want the society view him as an untrustworthy man. He has sacrificed his

In bildungsroman, the character is usually be able to make a smooth movement away from conformity
throughout major conflicts such as individuality vs. conformity. During his adventures, Candide
acquires wealth and experiences about the world. These factors cause Candide to question his belief in
optimism. After Candide listened to Martin s philosophy of pessimism, he has changed his views from
optimism of Pangloss to Martin s pessimism. At the end of the novel, Candide rejects Pangloss
philosophy and Martin s philosophy. He begins aware of both good things and bad things. He starts to
forms his own life opinions by becoming a gardener. This is an example of individuality vs.
conformity.
In this novel, Voltaire is able to use bildungsroman to moves Candide from an innocence and honest
man to a man of wisdom and maturity. After being forced away from Westphalia, Candide is able to
acquired some knowledge about the world. He is now matured enough to be able to sacrificed his
needs for his reputation. He has gained wisdoms to develop some opinions for himself. Finally, the

Comparing The Office And Parks And Recreation
The Office vs. Parks and Recreation NBC s The Office and Parks and Recreation are quite similar, but
yet so different. Both of these TV shows are comedies. They also both take place in the workplace,
specifically an office. The Office is set in Scranton, Pennsylvania at an office called Dunder Mifflin
Paper Company. Parks and Recreation is set in Pawnee,Indiana in the City Hall building where the
Parks and Recreation office is located. You know what they say. Fool me once, strike one, but fool me
twice... strike three. This was said by the great and wise Michael Scott. Well, maybe not wise... but he

Beginning with both being the protagonist in their shows. Both Michael and Leslie show a
compassionate and caring heart towards most everyone. Michael cares for his friends, as Leslie cares
for her friends and the great city of Pawnee. As seen in the quotes above, both say just about whatever
comes to their mind, which keeps the show very humorous. Although Michael can be a bit more crude
with his jokes. The Office is more negative with their humor than Parks and Recreation. A lot of the
humor on The Office comes from making fun of or bringing down the other characters. This kind of a
comedy makes for a funny and intriguing TV show. Also The Office has a bigger cast. Throughout the
10 seasons, the cast gets bigger. Some of the characters leave throughout the seasons and new ones
will come in. Parks and Recreation is a smaller cast, and does not have as many characters that come
and go through the seasons. Both of these comedies are very similar, but yet they are so different. Both
The Office and Parks and Recreation are so unique in their own way, and are very good TV shows. I
am bias towards The Office though. I believe it is a better quality TV show. To me The Office is more

Stereotypes Essay
To adequately investigate the question as to whether stereotypes are the psychological lubricant on
intergroup behaviour, several areas need to be considered. In the context of this essay the concept of
stereotypes needs to be defined. Although Lippmann (1922) is credited with first using the term
stereotype in this context it is perhaps Brown (1995) who offers the most applicable definition when
he wrote that quot;to stereotype someone is to attribute to that person some characteristics which are
seen to be shared by all or most of his or her fellow group members. quot; (p.83). With this definition
in mind this essay will, firstly, in an attempt to address the question make a brief review of some of

theory (Turner, 1987) as the quot;most coherent contemporary models of motivational biases quot;
(Schaller and Maass, 1991, p.190) in relation to social group membership. One of the key points with
Social Identity Theory is that the very act of categorisation, regardless of group contact, is enough to
produce in group preference and differentiation from the out group. According to the theory an
individual s self esteem is related to his or her social category membership and therefore the
individual seeks to make the social category appear in as positive a light as possible. This group
differentiation can lead to the formation of stereotypes. Turner s self categorisation theory states that
individuals seek to form self categorisations of themselves at many different levels ranging from the
most abstract, as in the perception of the self as human, to the most defined, that of the self as a well
defined individual. As with Social Identity Theory, individuals seek to perceive themselves in a
positive way and seek to establish a positive distinctiveness between the self and other in group

Family Sick Leave Analysis
The leave I requested for October 11th and 12th was family sick leave. My husband was stressed to
prepare some documents. When he gets stressed, his blood pressure goes up. He had to rest, because
of high blood pressure. I requested sick leave since I was not comfortable to talk about his health
issues. I had to stay home and take of him, and help him to prepare all his documents. If I had not
stayed home and taken care of the issue, his blood pressure could get worse and out of control. I had
to monitor his blood pressure and make sure it is under control. Please change those 2 days to family

The Origin Of Smart City Movement
As the world experiences rapid advancement, the continuing population growth and urbanization are
inevitable. More population are now live in urban areas than the rural areas.
54 % of the world s population are residing in urban areas in 2014. It forecast increase to 66 percent or
an addition of 2.5 billion people in 2050 (United Nation, 2014). With this continuing of urbanization,
the cities indicate a suffer on its fundamental functionalities to services citizens as a liveable place
(Borja, 2007; Toppeta, 2010). This rapid transition raises the need in integrated policies to improve
lives (United Nation, 2014). This gives birth of the new urban development concept leveraging new
innovation introduced in the cities (Nam and Pardo, 2011).
The origin of Smart City movement is dated back since late 1990 s (Bollier, 1998). The term has been
adopted and advocated by many technologies services companies such as IBM (2009) and Cisco
(2005). It was a promotion of the integration of information systems into urban infrastructure and
services (Harrison and Donnelly, 2011).
This is a result of globalization and diffusion of technologies; cities growth process has been
influenced greatly by these two factors. Information communication technology (ICT) is now playing
an important role in governance and management of the cities in various sectors e.g. government
services, transport and traffic management, energy, health care, water, innovative urban agriculture
and waste management

Compare and Contrast Trade Unions in Singapore and China
In the following essay I will be investigating if NTUC and ACFTU are really trade unions and present
the evidence that I have collected which has helped to shape my opinions and support my arguments.
Growing up in Singapore, I have heard about NTUC since I was young but never have I scrutinised
the trade union here so closely. I used to think that NTUC was the company that gave Singaporeans
NTUC Fairprice, the supermarket and NTUC Income for subsidised insurance. To be quite honest, I
was largely ignorant about what the NTUC did, but I knew that the NTUC was fundamentally part of
the government. Taking a glimpse into history and the events that shaped NTUC, I have a newfound

In Singapore, the close ties between PAP and NTUC is not a relationship that is kept behind close
doors. In fact, NTUC s Secretary General Lim Chee Onn in 1982 openly stated that the PAP and
NTUC come from the same womb. This elitist society as evidenced goes against the definition of a
trade union, as the members of a trade union should be the common man who isn t part of any elitist
group. The PAP government believes that the NTUC should have elite leadership to guide the non
elite leaders and the ordinary members of the union. The PAP also believed that Singapore would
benefit from appointing the elitist society as, the non elite cannot be relied upon to represent
themselves competently (Barr, 2000, p. 482). This belief reeks of anti democracy however, it has
somehow been accepted with the general public in Singapore. In China, the government usually
appoints the senior officials of the ACFTU. Even if members elect a representative, the union may not
necessarily agree on the elected representative. The top official in ACFTU is also a member of the
leading body of the CCP and usually holds a position more senior in the government than in the union.
As like the NTUC and PAP, the ACFTU and CCP career paths for members are permeable. However,
the status and prospects in the CCP are more desirable than in ACFTU and thus union members are
more prone to associate with CCP s interests than the unions. Both

Art Vs Algebra Class Research
Art was one of my favorite classes, but I wasn t a fan of algebra class. There are many differences and

homework we had. One of the biggest differences between these two classes was the amount of
creative freedom used in art class. Algebra class has more lectures while art class has more hands on
creative time. There is more note taking and homework involved in algebra. In art class, you could

Piaget Theory
Piaget s Theory Cognitive Development Process
From a baby to an adult, the mental of human are changing continuously due to the demographic (age,
gender, and education) and environmental factor (family influence and society influence). There are
many types of cognitive development theory that use to prove the human s mental stages of changing.
In cognitive development theory, the theory that is focused on is Piaget s theory of cognitive
development. Piaget s theory, which is the children cognitive development, is through four single
stages for testing all children commonly. This is used to recognize the ways of development factors
that affect children s grief. Before developing the children cognitively, Piaget uses three common
ways to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept grows completely when the child is capable to recognize the object mentally without its
present (Wood et al., 2006). This development brings the Piaget s theory to the second stage.
Next is the preoperational stage which is the most important stage in cognitive development process.
In this stage, the children learn everything from the natural phenomena such as language and behavior.
This stage is allowed them to start the symbolic thinking. For example, when a box is pushed in front
the children, they imagine the box as a moving car. Then, they make the car sound when they think
that is a car. Besides, children in this stage start to work with the problem solving tasks just like the
ways to get the thing at cupboard and ways to wear shirt. Ojose (2008) mentioned that children s
perceptions in this stage are generally restricted to one aspect or dimension of an object at the expense
of the other aspects (p. 27). For instance, when one 500ml bottle is filled with water fully and one
1500ml bottle is filled with ¼ of water, the children think that the 500ml bottle is more water than the
1500ml bottle. That is because the children can only differentiate the dimension and the height as they
do not know the amount of the water inside the bottle. When teaching the child in this stage, the adults
act intelligently. They give an effective question about the characteristic object for developing their
cognitive. For example, mother, who teaches

Chaos In The Crucible
Order Leads to Chaos: The Irony of the Witch Trials In 17th century Massachusetts the Puritan
government was a theocracy. They did this to restore order and have a Holy Community. In the
Crucible, by Arthur Miller, people are being accused of witch craft and the whole town goes crazy.
There are a series of trials and multiple people are killed. In the Crucible, in an attempt to keep order
and maintain a holy community greater chaos emerges. In the Crucible, the people of Salem are
determined to keep order and to maintain a holy community. For example, Paris says to Abbigail,

Israel. And folks are brought before them, and if they scream and howl and fall to the floor the person
s clapped in the jail for bewitchin them, (Miller 52 53). If people don t confess then they get killed and
if a teenage girl faints in front of them then they are found guilty of witch craft. This displays the
opposite image of a peaceful and godly community. People are lying and being killed for working for
the devil even though both those acts are sins. They are so afraid of the devil yet they are committing
his acts. When Mary Warren was being questioned about lying, Danforth asked her, Do you not know
that God damns all liars? (Miller 101). Even though he is naming God he really means that they will
damn her. He is declaring the government s right to do as they believe God would do. But even though
they believes that those who lie should be condemned he is not condemning the real liars. The real

Collaboration, within interprofessional teams, is fundamental in a maternity setting. The framework of
interprofessional care provides an avenue for women and their families, potentially with complex
needs, to receive holistic and individualised care (D Amour et al., 2009; The Royal College of

The incident occurred during an elective caesarean section, for a woman with type one diabetes
mellitus. Research has shown that maternal diabetes mellitus incurs an increased risk of neonatal
hypoglycaemia (Robson et al., 2014). In response to these findings, a neonatologist is required to be
present at the delivery of the fetus (Local Trust, 2015). Upon arrival of the neonatologist, a thorough
handover of the client s information, including past medical history, as well as neonatal risk factors,
was performed by the student. Following delivery, the infant was placed on the resuscitaire and the
initial neonatal assessment was completed by the neonatologist, as per Local Trust policy (2016). The
results of the assessment were satisfactory and no neonatal abnormalities were identified; the
neonatologist made the clinical decision to discharge the infant from the neonatologists care. Within
the subsequent ten minutes the infant s muscle tone and respiratory rate reduced which prompted the
student to transfer the infant back to the resuscitaire and raise the alarm with the midwife, her mentor.
The midwife proceeded to instruct the student to request a neonatal emergency crash call broadcast.
Once the neonatologist team arrived, they requested a handover and glanced at the student, who at
which point became flustered and unable to share the necessary information, provoking the mentoring
midwife to resume control of the situation. The midwife was able to share the relevant information
and subsequently aided the diagnosis of neonatal hypoglycaemia. This was quickly treated and the
infant was intubated and stabilised prior to being transferred for further treatment and observation in

The Powerful Use Of Abuse In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Sweat Looka heah, Sykes, you done gone too fur. Ah been married to you fur fifteen years, and Ah
been takin in washin for fifteen years. Sweat, sweat, sweat! Work and sweat, cry and sweat, pray and
sweat! Does living with abuse help you gain the strength to become a stronger woman? Also, when
does enough become enough? Such a quote is found in Zora Neale Hurston s short story, Sweat . This
quote expresses the discussion theme better than any story that has ever been told before about abuse
that is endured during a relationship. This quote helped me realize many different things that women
tend to go through in a relationship. A lot of times women take abuse, whether it is physical, mental or
emotional abuse. Society also tends to put women in a category that is beneath a man, which may give
a man the thought of him having power over women, but in actual reality this is called abuse. The
definition of abuse is the improper use of something, and that is exactly what is happening to Delia in
Sweat .
Zora Neale Hurston was considered one of the pre eminent writers of twentieth century African
American literature. Hurston was closely associated with the Harlem Renaissance. She has also
influenced writers such as Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, Gayle Jones, Alice Walker, and Toni Cade

Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle And Thermodynamics
Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle and Thermodynamics
I m writing this research paper for my Thermodynamics class with Professor Roh. I have a big interest
in turbine gas engines and how they operate. My future goal within mechanical engineering is to learn
how to maintain and design turbine gas engines.
How do Turbine Gas Engines operate?
I read this article at Wartsila website which enlightened me that Gas turbines are comprised of three
primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The
compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in
power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air
through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume
of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to
increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and
the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and
imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary
blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of
the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion.
The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator

We decided to keep movies in the dataset that were English and from the USA. We also wanted to
only include movies that were released in USA and abroad. The data we did not need was filtered out
and the data features that were not pre release were removed. When it came to predicting the
worldwide box office revenue, we wanted to use linear regression and SVM. This was because many
researchers had used these techniques. When using linear regression we realised that our data needed
transforming as the linear regression assumptions were violated. The Box Cox transform we used
transformed our dependent variables and worked well. The assumptions of the linear regression were
met. The forward selection procedure used helped identify which variables were good predictors in the
models. Linear regression has certain assumptions, so in order to not violate those assumptions, it is
crucial to pick the best variables for the model. The best model we found using this procedure met all
the assumptions and gave good prediction accuracies. The results obtained from the linear regression
and SVM models indicated that the accuracies all of the models were very high. Linear regression and
SVM achieved similar results with SVM just slightly achieving better accuracy rates As we were
predicting box office revenue using pre release data only, the accuracies of 80% plus were a good
surprise. Transforming the worldwide box office revenue

Opiates Psychology
Opiates imitate physical chemicals in the body that are expected to calm individuals during times of
stress and also help to overcome pain at times of injury or illness. When a person takes an opiate the
drug links with the brain s opiate receptors, causing a calming effect that relaxes and eases physical
pain. When taken at doses higher than medically necessary, opiates produce a strong feeling of
euphoria, overflowing the brain with feel good neurochemicals like dopamine and serotonin, which
activate the reward and pleasure pathways in the brain. This makes the use of opiates pleasurable
while also reinforced the behavior, causing the individual to associate the taking of high doses of

Positive reinforcement receives a reward for good behavior and is likely to repeat it. Negative
reinforcement causes a behavior to be repeated and the action causes a bad feeling or situation to go

when use of the substance is discontinued. Opiates induce physical dependence. Psychological
dependence is a dependency of the mind, and leads to psychological withdrawal symptoms. Addiction
can come from any rewarding behavior and is believed to be associated with particular areas of the
brain s reward system. A dependency of the mind involves a mental association with how a particular
behavior is rewarded. Physiological dependence occurs when the body adjusts to the continued
presence of a drug. These adaptations lead to negative symptoms when the drug is removed or when
the dose is dramatically reduced. Psychological dependence is a change in emotional state that occurs
after using a substance or engaging in a behavior over a period of time. This change in emotional state

Ownership Of Wild And Exotic Animals
Ownership of Wild and Exotic Animals Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals love them. But
those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more, (Teale). This
quote shows that people who keep wild animals as pets do not realize that the native environment
provides the wild animals with the necessities they cannot receive as a pet. Permits should not be
given to people to own wild and exotic animals as pets because it is inhumane and dangerous.
People who keep exotic animals as pets do not realize the danger they are putting on the animals or
themselves. There have been around 2,000 incidents involving captive exotic pets that have been
reported and 75 reported deaths between the years of 1990 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

certificate. These states would include Alabama, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, and
Wisconsin. ( Summary of State Laws ).
Within these categories of B, B*, L, and N there are smaller subcategories that separate the animals

Respondeat superior is latin for let the master answer . This is a doctrine that suggests that an
employer is responsible for an employees actions. In the United States, most employers are liable for
the actions of employees performed during their length of employment. This is necessary and a
favorable way to do business in most cases. This ensures that the employee is adquate training and
attention. Companies are more likely to invest in their employees and provide them with the necessary
training and encourage them to develop their skillset. Respondeat superior is necessary and protects

Life Of Ranofer s Half-Brother In The Golden Goblet
The novel Golden Goblet illustrates the life of a young Egyptian boy struggling against the cruelty of
his half brother Gebu. This novel is the life of Ranofer as he desperately tries to uncover the secrets of
his half brother and the mysterious golden goblet. He eventually discovers that Gebu is a tomb robber
and knows he must tell someone. He ends up telling Queen Tiy herself and receiving great rewards for
his actions. When Ranofer finds the goblet, it sets off a whole new stream of events, each leading to
the next. This lead to him figuring out what Gebu does with his helper Wenamon, what a strange scroll
in the scroll room is for and this all leads to Ranofer finding out and being able to prove that Gebu is a
tomb robber. When Ranofer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He finds a interesting scroll with a room that appears useless, a store room he thought. But no, he
realized. It is much more than a store room, The little room in the tomb drawing, the one for the
Pharaoh s master of storehouses. It was no room at all. It was a passage like this disguised so that the
workmen could hack it out without knowing... . Although he did not find the goblet, he found yet
another clue. One day, the day when Gebu and Wenamon go to rob a tomb, Ranofer follows them.
Wenamon is very nervous, he almost is scared, unlike his evil partener Gebu. Wenamon said, ... you
may regret this day impatient one! It was Wenamons murmuring voice, that was certain. Gebu lashed
back at once, Fool, who would follow us? Even the guards are feasting in Thebes. . Ranofer realizes
that Gebu was planning to rob something, bigger than a gold shop, to rob tombs. In conclusion, the
previous reasons prove my point that the most important event is when Ranofer finds the Golden
Goblet. All these events lead to one another in a river of new mysteries and new finds. Eventually,
poor Ranofers problems are solved. He tells the Queen and they amazingly believe him. He is
rewarded greatly and the goblet is found. Ranofer lives a very happy life after with his beloved friends

Effects Of Deforestation On Amazon Forest Resilience Research
There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump
disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such rise
in temperature leads to lack of rainfall, increase droughts and forest fires to which the fires will disrupt
the water cycle even more. The effects of deforestation on Amazon forest resilience research by Zemp
et al. (2017), build upon previous research done in the field of forestry studies and used similar
methods to collect data. Although they have come to some shortcomings such as the risk of
underestimating the differences which are introduced in evapotranspiration following deforestation,
compared to study using fine scale observations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zemp et al. (2017) s result on forest resilience in their simulation supports that the Amazon s forest
survival also decrease as there is an overlap between reductions of forest resilience with deforested
areas. Despite the evidence showing the detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et al. (2017) s
research focuses primarily on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, as such, the research has a
gap such that other geographical influences like fertilization, greenhouse gases, and water use, are not
accounted for. However, Zemp et al. (2017) had gained more understanding as they had used other
research papers, like [Spracklen and Garcia Carreras, 2015; Lejeune et al., 2015], to close the
unanswered gaps in the deforestation issue. Although the paper has explained the effect of
deforestation on water fluxes, the problem remains that in the short and long term, regardless of any
deforestation, many of the Amazon rainforest regions will continue to lose precipitation and become
more vulnerable to disturbances from fire and droughts, even more so in the dry season (Zemp et al.
2017).
The Drought and Deforestation: Has Land Cover Change Influenced Recent Precipitation Extremes in
the Amazon? By Bagley et al. (2014), argue that current level of deforestation influences recent
drought severity and magnitude of impacts from the land cover change which are altered in drought
relative to pluvial years. They test their hypothesis using the Weather

The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost
Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant
theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe in
such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and turning to
find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the characters in
his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as Calvinism. Once a
human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they are subjected to either
hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his poetry to emphasize the
mindset of such individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his strong
faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a life to live
however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life.
The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem by
stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one can
interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life, however, he
has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a reason and proves that
he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his faith strong, despite believing
he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet/ When far away an interrupted cry/
Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner
voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell him what to do just to remind him that He is
always there watching over him. When the speaker looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or
the moon, he states once again I have been acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the
he believes he has been damned. Frost knows that he technically doesn t have control in any of his
choice, and not even the

The Vignette Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
The vignette Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong of the larger novel The Things They Carried depicts an
innocent young girl becoming tainted by the realities of war. The main issue discussed in this segment
is the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or more well known as PTSD. An article by
CNN reporter, Eric Zillmer, also talks about PTSD but heavily talks about the aftermath of war on the
human psyche. As the author, Tim O Brien, pulls on our heartstrings by showing the forge of such a
mental illness in an innocent girl. Zillmer takes a more scientific route by explaining the cause of such
mental illness and possible ways to prevent PTSD. As both authors depict PTSD as something
appalling each one depicts it in opposite ways. Tim

Countering In Claude M. Steele s Whistling Vivaldi
Joseph Harris, teacher and author of the book rewriting, brings a technique in the academic writing
that talks about how we can rewrite an author s opinion by being generous and not steal their credits.
He names this technique countering. To counter is simply a different way of thinking; how we can use
one author s idea to show another point of view not by dishonoring their way of thinking but by giving
them credit for what they wrote. Countering is a significant movement which is not easily created or
followed. It has a set of rules that should be followed by ethical norms which are based on the purpose
of countering. According to Harris there are three stages of countering in text which are, coming to
terms with another point of view, noting its limits, and constructing your own position in response
(70). Claude M. Steele, one of the few great social psychologists whose impact on the larger culture is
immense, uses countering in his book Whistling Vivaldi to shows different opinion that people agrees
on and shows us the truth about them. He is able to counter other author s work, hypothesis and
theories without offending or subdue their work.
Steele s purpose in his book is to show how we underestimate stereotype threat in our society.
According to Claude M. Steele, in his book Whistling Vivaldi, he explains to us that a Stereotype
threat is a situational predicament in which people are or feel themselves to be at risk of conforming to
stereotypes about their social

To determine whether a person s behavior is abnormal psychologist use three basic criteria as follows: Deviation from statistical norms and social norms, maladaptive behavior, and personal distress. • 5. Importance Of Drinking Water Essay Rural India has more than 700 million people residing in about 1.42 million habitations spread over 15 diverse ecological regions. Meeting the drinking water needs of such a large population can be a daunting task. The non uniformity in level of awareness, socio economic development, education, poverty, practices and rituals and water availability add to the complexity of the task. Despite an estimated total of Rs. 1,105 billion spent on providing safe drinking water since the First Five Year Plan was launched in 1951, lack of safe and clean drinking water continues to be a major obstacle and a national economic burden. Around 37.7 million Indians are affected by waterborne diseases annually; 1.5 million children are estimated to die of diarrhoea alone in each year. In our constitution the provision of safe drinking water has been given utmost priority, with Article 47 conferring the duty of providing clean drinking water and improving public health standards to the State. The government has undertaken various programmes and policies since independence to provide safe drinking water to the rural population. Till the 10th plan, an estimated total of Rs.1,105 billion spent on providing secure drinking water. Together the techniques of anaphora and informal language create a compounding effect, by referring to these colonisers and the direct address towards Gauguin diminishing his achievements and many other celebrated European discovers who have exploited foreign countries through invasion. marsh being a tuvaluan and samoan descent, applies a dismissive yet hostile tone towards the idea highlighting the negative impact of European control on pasifika ways of life and especially women in Tahiti. These two combined techniques adds to the effect of how women from Tahiti are being over sexuilised and made out to be animalistic throughout the whole poem in order to give the reader an overall theme of exploitation of women. Marsh makes ironic use of positive connotations such as delectably when describing the breasts of the Tahitian girls to heighten the erotic pleasure these men find in these young girls. However the most unnerving line is when she uses a simile in ripen like paw paw to add to the already unpleasant objectification of young women as sexual objects through the metaphor of fruit which are best slightly raw very tempting to them. Marsh uses this to show how sexually driven these european colonists such as gauguin where to these polynesian women. It also sets the ideas of how these women women were desirable from a young age and Gauguin states that for his reasoning behind sleeping with all of these women, as if it was not his fault. This leads me to believe that Gauguin only sees these women as objects, not as people, which is an indication in a lot of his artwork. We can also see how in this patriarchal world, men are able to act out their desires without considering the scale of destruction they unleash on women or heritage cultures. Audre lorde expresses a similar sentiment in her speech The master s tools will never dismantle the master s house(1979) where she is telling us to reclaim reclaim our stolen tools, and to not cower in fear of the master. But instead to stand up and break the false Consensus that limits our options. This showed how difficult it was for these polynesian women to stand alone in a period where women were being treated unfairly. • 12. Herbert Hoover s Time in Office It was somewhat easy for him to get into the White House in 1929. There were a number of occurrences that helped him to be the president. Calvin Coolidge, the president in 1928, announced not to run for another presidency term. Hoover was naturally considered the presumptive Republican nominee for President. There was no great opposition, and he did not have to invest his time on campaigning to win the nomination. The election of 1928 went easy for him. The Democrat nominee was Al Smite, New York governor and a catholic. The country was not ready for a Catholic president. Hoover won 58% of the popular vote and 40 of the 48 states. He literally dominated the election. If I were a voter at the time, he would also vote for him without doubt. Simply, there were no better candidates who could beat over Hoover. He also did impressive public works for the government and citizens. In 1928, he deserved the result. During his presidency, he had plans for his administration. Among those plans, I believe the most successful one was building a dam in Boulder Canyon of the Colorado River, which is now called Hoover Dam. Besides this, there was nothing noticeable and effective accomplishment. I can see what he tried to do to get away from the Great Depression and to return the economy to the state before the market crash, but his actions were not smart and effective enough to save the economy. If I were a part of the society during his presidency, I would feel betrayed because, according ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Living Conditions ( World Bank ) living conditions (World Bank). The rationale behind the large loan is the boost in temporary employment, the importance of using municipal government agents, and overall implementing structural changes that in turn would transform the state of Gabon in the long run. Other actions that have been taken include implementing social safety nets as a form of addressing the poverty associated with inequality. Programs such as Carte d indigent only focused on short term transfers such as free medicine, food, family allowance, and cash in order to temporarily reduce the number of those under the poverty line (World Bank PRE). Unfortunately, these transfers were solely dependent on government funding and the shrinking social budget made the program practically worthless today. An emphasis can also be placed on the roots of inequality; poor governance with faulty transparency and a regime with various ties to privileged inner circles in France and domestically, leads the World Bank to classify Gabon as a rent based economy (World Bank PRE). By Tina Beach In the United States, the lending industry s lack of aggressive monitoring was a big part of the housing market crash of 2006. The sounds are aural elements used in the film and embody a spatial quality within themselves. Acousmatic and non acousmatic sounds are essential in cinema because they provide the spectator with a better understanding of the film through both visuals and sound. Michel Chion explores the idea of the acousmatic sound in his essay The Voice in Cinema where he talks about Acousmatic sounds in conjunction with religion where the priests/ religious leaders would often sit behind a curtain and deliver speeches. Chion draws ideas from Psychoanalysis and connects it with acousmatic sounds. In the context of psychoanalysis, the therapist s voice is a substitute of an acousmatic sound when the patient is in a state of hypnosis. The idea of an acousmatic sound can be understood with the example of a radio. The voice of a radio jockey is acousmatized since it doesn t have a visible source but the presence of the radio jockey helps us to imagine a kind of presence through the medium of sound. This development brings the Piaget s theory to the second stage. Next is the preoperational stage which is the most important stage in cognitive development process. In this stage, the children learn everything from the natural phenomena such as language and behavior. This stage is allowed them to start the symbolic thinking. For example, when a box is pushed in front the children, they imagine the box as a moving car. Then, they make the car sound when they think that is a car. Besides, children in this stage start to work with the problem solving tasks just like the ways to get the thing at cupboard and ways to wear shirt. Ojose (2008) mentioned that children s perceptions in this stage are generally restricted to one aspect or dimension of an object at the expense of the other aspects (p. 27). For instance, when one 500ml bottle is filled with water fully and one 1500ml bottle is filled with ¼ of water, the children think that the 500ml bottle is more water than the 1500ml bottle. The compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion. The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator ... The data we did not need was filtered out and the data features that were not pre release were removed. When it came to predicting the worldwide box office revenue, we wanted to use linear regression and SVM. This was because many researchers had used these techniques. When using linear regression we realised that our data needed transforming as the linear regression assumptions were violated. The Box Cox transform we used transformed our dependent variables and worked well. The assumptions of the linear regression were met. The forward selection procedure used helped identify which variables were good predictors in the models. Linear regression has certain assumptions, so in order to not violate those assumptions, it is crucial to pick the best variables for the model. The best model we found using this procedure met all the assumptions and gave good prediction accuracies. The results obtained from the linear regression and SVM models indicated that the accuracies all of the models were very high. Linear regression and SVM achieved similar results with SVM just slightly achieving better accuracy rates As we were predicting box office revenue using pre release data only, the accuracies of 80% plus were a good surprise. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such rise in temperature leads to lack of rainfall, increase droughts and forest fires to which the fires will disrupt the water cycle even more. The effects of deforestation on Amazon forest resilience research by Zemp et al. (2017), build upon previous research done in the field of forestry studies and used similar methods to collect data. (2017) s research focuses primarily on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, as such, the research has a gap such that other geographical influences like fertilization, greenhouse gases, and water use, are not accounted for. However, Zemp et al. Steele s Whistling Vivaldi Joseph Harris, teacher and author of the book rewriting, brings a technique in the academic writing that talks about how we can rewrite an author s opinion by being generous and not steal their credits. He names this technique countering. To counter is simply a different way of thinking; how we can use one author s idea to show another point of view not by dishonoring their way of thinking but by giving them credit for what they wrote. Countering is a significant movement which is not easily created or followed. It has a set of rules that should be followed by ethical norms which are based on the purpose of countering. According to Harris there are three stages of countering in text which are, coming to terms with another point of view, noting its limits, and constructing your own position in response (70).
