The document outlines initial plans for a music video project, including selecting a song, generating three ideas employing different styles and techniques, and providing additional relevant information. Seven potential songs are listed. The first idea involves a slow-paced video for a slow song using long shots in a gloomy environment. The second idea is more upbeat to match faster songs, using many shots. The third mixes elements of the first two ideas. Strengths and weaknesses of the ideas are discussed. The final idea focuses on interpreting EDEN's "Gold" mysteriously without a clear story. Research targets are outlined regarding editing techniques, shot locations, and analyzing other similar music videos.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
4. Song idea’s
• Song idea- “rock + roll- EDEN”
• Song idea- “Crash- EDEN”
• Song idea- “Way Beyond- Bastille”
• Song idea- “Gold- EDEN”
• Song idea- “West end kids- Vikings”
• Song idea- “99-Barns Courtney”
• Song idea- “Circles-EDEN”
5. Idea one
• For this Idea I am going to try stick to using a slow song and have a slow pace to my music video. For
example for this idea I will use a song like “Gold by EDEN” or “Crash by EDEN” or “Rock + Roll by EDEN”.
This music video will be quite slow paced however I will still have a large amount of shots as well as long
shots in it to match the beat of the music but so that there is a make sift story that goes with the song
however the song Rock + Roll is 5minutes long so I would have to get a much larger amount of shots or
longer shots if I was doing a music video on this rather then if I did a music video about the song Gold
which is 3minutes long. The types of shots that I will use when making my video will mostly be long shots,
very long shots, tilted frame shots and close up shots.
• The environment of my music video will be quite gloomy and dark to match the tone of the music and to
also go with the story that the song is trying to get across to their audience. To do this I will most likely try
to record on days when there’s fog or early in the morning where its still quite dark and gloomy. Luckily I’m
recording my project In a season that already matches the tone of the songs that I might use for this idea.
When collecting the shots that I need I will have a main group of friends and the main character by
himself. When recording the main group of friends I will try to get shots where its just them and there’s no
other bystanders or strangers in the shot however when recording the main character I will do a mix of
shots where he’s with his friends and when he’s surrounded by a range of different people weather this is
in public or not.
• My characters in the music will be wearing casual clothes that they would wear day to day because the
majority of the shots will be based around the main character going out and spending time with friends or
going out in public like normal. This will also help to make my product more attractive to the songs target
audience because its relatable and they’re able to compare themselves to what happens in the music
video.
6. Idea two
• For this idea I will be making a music video that is more upbeat and faster paced then
idea one. For this idea I will try to stick to songs such as “99 by Barns Courtney” or “Good
Thing by Barns Courtney” because they are faster paced, have a faster beat but also try to
have a story throughout the song.
• Because this song is up beat and fast I will have to get a much larger amount of shots
because for sections of the song I would like to have clips changing to the beat of the
song and the main clips that I use will be faster paced instead of slower like idea one to
help get across the idea of being happy to the audience.
• However because of the season most of my clips will most likely end up taking place in a
dark and gloomy environment rather then the bright and colorful tone that would better
suit this song. To sort of avoid this I will try to focus on recording early in the morning
where the environment is naturally gloomy all year round because morning gives the idea
of a new start and happiness which is what both these songs represent at some point.
• The characters in this music video will be wearing casual clothes the same as idea one
however because I will have a lot more shots in this idea the characters will be wearing a
range of different casual clothes because I will have to record my video over a range of
different days if my friends are involved in it a lot more then idea one.
7. Idea three
• For this idea I will be basing my idea off the song “West end kids by Vikings” my
music video will be quite fast paced however the tone of the song is quite sad
meaning this idea will be sort of a mixture of both one and two because the the
music is fast but the tone of the song is sad. When getting the shots for my video
I will try to get shots that match the tone of the song and get a large amount of
them so in some parts of my video shots can change to the beat of the song to
make it more appealing to the target audience and to get their attention. The
environment that I will be taking my shots will be mainly around areas that are
similar to idea one such as
11. Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• A lot of the shots that I need I can easily record in my local area so I don’t need to travel far.
• The tone of the current season matches with the majority of my ideas helping to add more to the music
video.
• I am able to get a large amount of people to help in the making of my video if needed allowing me to do a
lot more then if it was just me.
• I think one of the strength's of my ideas is that for all of them I am using a wide range of different shots
help
• Another one of the strengths is that I’m able to go long distances if I need to get any specific shots that I
need.
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
• One of my weaknesses is that the song I’m using is quite long so I will need more shots then I would if it
was just a regular sized song.
• I have only used a professional camera one or two times so I still don’t fully know how to operate one.
• Because of the weather recently I might not be able to record on certain days because I don’t want rain to
damage any of my equipment.
• my third and second idea are harder to do then my first one because of the time of year it is.
12. Final idea – artist/title/info
• Name of track / name of artist- “Gold” by EDEN
• Brief biographical background- EDEN is a solo singer who was once in
a band called The Eden Project however it was discontinued so he
moved on to making music by himself and calling himself EDEN. He is
a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer.
• Links to other artists-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9gqem723Lk
• Genre info- this artists type of music is often more sad toned then
happy because this artist likes to have a story behind their songs and
likes to make the listener feel something and relate to what the song
is saying.
13. Final idea – track summary
• Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration,
pace and style of the song]
• The song I will be basing my music video off will be the song Gold by
EDEN. This song is about how the singer has changed overtime and
how he is now missing the past but also wants to move on at the
same time. This song lasts for a total of just over 3 minutes and has a
range of different paces in it for example at
14. Final idea – your idea
• Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation,
use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
• For my final idea I want to stick to the plan of making my product
different to many other music videos and trying to make the music
video mysterious so that the audience can also use their creativity to
figure out what the song writer is trying to get across. I will make
sure my music video resembles what the song is saying however I
don’t want to make it too obvious making my music video into some
sort of story and in a way turning the singer into the “narrator” of
that story. This will mean the audience will have to use their own
imagery as well as the imagery given to them to figure out the deep
meaning of the song.
15. Final idea – techniques and styles
• Video techniques/style/conventions to be used [include how you
intend to implement these]
• For my music video I am going to make the style quite dark to suit the
tone of the music and so the music has a larger effect on the
audience. To do this I will get the majority of my clips at night or early
in the morning and for my clips in the day I will change the color of
the clips in post to make them look more faded so they match the
tone more. In my music video I will also have my shots change on
certain parts of the beat to make my music video more interesting. To
do this I will use the technique of using the snipping tool in post on
premier pro to get rid of parts of my clips so that it looks like its fast
forwarding.
16. Potential research targets
• I will need to research different editing styles such as how to add static
effect, how to remove the audio from my clips so it doesn’t cover the
music and how to change certain colours of my shots in premier pro.
• I will need to research places where I could get the shots that I want. For
example I want to get a shot of the sun rising early in the morning in a
rural environment. I would also like to get a shot of certain weather so I
will need to do research on when and where that weather will be.
• Also I will need to do research on other products that have similar style
music to see how they have edited theirs and see if I can improve my
editing skills in any way. This will also allow me to better see what suits
my type of music and what certain techniques don’t making it look
more un-appealing.
