TALKING HEADS ONCE IN A
LIFETIME
• In the video it has a sense of comedy as the main singer is
almost pretending to be a preacher and dances in erratic ways
making the viewer see it as comedic.
• The camera angles in the video tend to jump around lots with
lots of crash zooms and close ups of the singer.
• The use of layering clips with multiple versions of the singer add
a crazy kooky effect to the video.
• I think the video and its techniques will reflect well on my video
as id like mine to be a bit comedic and not take itself too
seriously as the song itself isn't meant to be something mopey
or depressing.

• This video uses a sort of 60s 70s style to the filming
using retro lights and old cameras to get that old film
look.

• This video also has a small subtle comedic element to it
as it uses the old retro style as like a mockery of the
singer and how it seems he's living in the past.
• I feel this will reflect on the video I choose by picking
one with a style I like and would like to change up.

• The reason I've put this one up is there isn't really a proper
filmed music video for the song its more of a live music video
and id like to believe id be able to make a better version as they
didn't’t do one themselves

video and there'd be lots for me to come up with for this
song.
• I would probably have to cut the time down as it’s a fairly
long song so id have to come up with a way to shorten it

• The music video for this song incorporates animation mixed with real life
and I know it would be very difficult to animate anything like this but the
idea of using some kind of animation in the the music video seems like it
would be a cool idea not to the scale of this band as they would be
impossible
• I like how goofy parts of it are and how there's a funny side to things
that happen and also how grown up it is as usually animation people
would assume to be childish or for kids
• I think this video helps me think of new ideas with incorporating
something aside from just plain video whether it be some small
animations or props to help make it more watchable or comedic

THE LOOK
• This video has been useful in coming up with ideas as its made
me think of using two different styles in one video and
switching between them as in this video there's the clips of the
band playing the song and then all the stop motion parts of the
seagulls and it switches between them making it keep the
attention of the watcher
• I also like how plain the rest of the style is with the cream
backgrounds and the laid back style
• I will take lots of stylistic ideas from this video and its been
useful in the sense of coming up with a theme and using props
and little characters to keep it interesting.

cant change the past. I think its also saying not to let life

good while talking about real life problems.

ON OUTLINE
What I plan to make is a spoof of the original video
where the lyrics are taken literally and its all acted out by
a sock puppet. I'm going to have things in the lyrics
happen to it like near the end there's a lyric that says
“here comes the twister” and id like to make a funny
cutout of a tornado/twister that would scare the puppet
the idea is for it to look homemade and not serious so
I'm going to use a lot of handmade props when I film it
that I can make at home.
I'm going to break it up into having one repeated part
which will be during the chorus where it’s the same lyrics
so ill just replay a certain section of filming during that
part.

Location one: my home. I wont need to travel for this one and I
can film the majority of the parts I need in and around my
house as ill be using a white background for a lot of it.
Location two: a field in my village. This one will be a bit of a
walk for me but as I'm filming it all on my phone I wont have
much to carry or worry about.
The weather could be a problem but either way it doesn’t
matter in terms of the footage its more just if I get wet or if my
phone does.
Location three: college. I need to use the college computers to
edit all my work together I can get here easily so I don’t need to
worry about travel.

PowerPoint. This is only available when I'm on site at
college and in lessons.
2.My phone to use as a camera for filming the actual music
video can use whenever I need to film at home or out.

Ill be editing my video completely at college as I wont
likely be able to get the software on my computer at
home so ill have to focus getting my editing done while
I'm in lesson a college and try do as much as I can at
home with the other bits like filming.

partaking I the video except for my hand as I'm
going to be making the main character a sock

A lot of what I've collected on my concept board is to
remind me what I need to put in my video and help me
keep a scheme of what colors and style of things I want
like the cream colors are for the background and the
earth ,tornados and waves are all of props I'm going to
make to cutout and make little scenes.
There are also some screenshots of the original video fro
the song which I'm basically using a similar style to spoof
the original video but just adding more tings like a
different location instead of just the white background
and making it more of a joke.

I'm splitting down the song and my video into 7
sections being 6 verses, chorus in 2 parts and
the ending the chorus will repeat itself a few
times. I'm making a lot of sections as the song
is long and I don’t want to make it confusing
with not enough sections I will add more if
necessary while filming as I can just come back
and edit it if I need but it will all be mapped out
so I know exactly what I need to put In all
parts.

cutouts

The chorus itself repeats a lot of times during the song with the same
lyrics which is “letting the days go by let the water hold me down” so
I'm going to have a section of video that plays every time the chorus
starts and repeat it through the whole song it does vary in lyrics slightly
in some parts but shouldn’t effect the video.
I'm going to have it where there's cut outs of waves crashing on top of
the sock puppet and when it mentions under the rocks and stones have
big boulders fall on him.
This will have a normal sized small shot where everything's close
together so you an see whats happening without having to look around
the shot too much

Location 1: my home
Most of the filming will be in my home in my conservatory as there
is lots of natural light for filming I am also going to set up my
photography lights to give me a brighter scene if it’s a gloomy day.
The camera is going to be set up central to the big white wall in my
conservatory so I get a nice blank background for my scene so
everything is nice and fitted in a small white square.
Location 2 : a field next to my village
There is a big field near my home where I will be filming the
outdoor section of my video with the tornado I will be allowed to
film there as it’s a common dog walking public footpath so I won't
need to get permission. The camera will be facing out into the
open so I can get a big wide shot and make my prop of a tornado
look like its huge and sweeping across the field. The only issues
with this location is the weather may be a setback on the days and
my props may get wet but I can use certain days to my advantage
to make sure the timing is right

Technical: hopefully not a lot can go wrong as I'm not using much except for some
stand lights which I know how to use properly if not I will be able to manage without or
use a lighter room I'm using my phone to record so I wont have to worry about getting a
camera.
Location: the location is mainly in my home except for one scene which is in a field but
if I cant get what I want outside I will finish it all inside my house as it makes sense to
keep it all to one style anyway
Personnel: I only have one person worry about helping me with the video and they live
with me so I wont have to worry about crew not showing up and me being able to film it
myself so I'm okay if worse came to worse I could ask one of my parents to help me
film.
Organisation: I have made a script and everything is all broken u into easy parts for me
to film in clips so im organised as much as I've planned nothing should go wrong with
the filming as its all pretty simple and I don’t have lots to manage in terms of people
and going places

SCHEDULE
Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for
production, that is for the filming and editing of your
project.

Filming I am going to give myself 3 hours as I am only
filming short clips and I have everything needed to get it
all set up and ready and filmed quickly.
I'm giving myself 2 hours for making my props as I have
to make all the cardboard cut-outs and make them
useable in my video
Then I'm giving myself the rest of my time to edit and
finish my video this should be enough time to get it all
done if everything runs to plan the class days will be the
only time I'll be able to edit my video as I can't get
the software needed at home but I can do all my filming
at home on my home and make all my props at home
which gives me all my lessons to use the software.
