blue coloured hue to it. However, I also like
the frequent close ups as I feel it adds
meaning to the video, and helps to show

• I really like the lighting used in this video, as it
has occasional shots with blue/red coloured
lights, which I feel gives an interesting effect to
the video.
• I like the way this shot has been created, with
the character in focus, and the bright colours
that are blurred in the background. I also like
how throughout the video, there is always a
shadow on the same side of the characters
face.
• I really like the CGI used in this video, as it
makes it look more unique.

Genre info – Rusted Root’s music is classed as a fusion
of acoustic, rock, world and other styles of music. They
have a strong percussion section that draws from

I think it is quite difficult to pinpoint the style of this
song, as it has elements from lots of different styles.
However, there is a clear acoustic style to this song. The
song lasts for 4 minutes 5 seconds. This song has a fairly
slow pace, but tends to speed up in certain places. I think
the meaning behind this is to do with freedom, as there
are lots of references throughout the song to leaving a
place, running, and being young.

Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your

I have interpreted this song as a happy song that is
relating to freedom. Therefore, I feel as though the
majority of this video should be filmed outside, to show
the freedom of the character. This is going to include
some scenic shots, to show how free the character
actually is. I am also going to use lots of bright colours
to show the happy tone of the video. This includes the
costume of the character, and the use of coloured smoke
bombs, and powder paint, which will be thrown in the
wind. I am also going to be including lip syncing
throughout the video, as this is seen quite frequently
through other music videos that are similar to this. With
the lip syncing, I will be using coloured gels to place near
the lights, to create a coloured hue, which will change
throughout the video, to show different colours. This is

I will be filming the video, and I will have a friend that will
help with transport and setting shots up. I have another
friend that is going to act in my video also. I will spend 4
days filming the videos at different locations. The locations
are always available so there isn’t a problem there. Also, I
will be using my own equipment which is also always
available. I will spend around 2 days editing the video.
The only problem I can foresee is the powder paint/smoke
grenades not being delivered in time for filming. However, I
can overcome this by ordering them at an earlier date.

Send Me On My Way – Rusted Root (Music Video)
I am going to be making a music video to the song above. I
intend to create a video that is of high quality and is at near
professional level.
I have interpreted the song as mainly being about freedom
and leaving somewhere and being able to go anywhere and
do anything. The song is quite a slow pace, but the mood
seems to be very happy and relaxed. I will be adding in lots
of shots of scenic shots and shots of nature to help show
the freedom of the character. I will also be adding in lots of
lip syncing as the song is 4 minutes long which will help to
break up the video a bit more.
I will not require any equipment as I can use my own, as
that will be more accessible than hiring equipment.
However, I will need editing software to edit the video.

25. LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will
you manage this?
Sutton Bank – this is a 10 minute drive from my house, which will cost to pay for
petrol to travel there. It would not cost to film there but it would cost for travel.
The weather is a huge factor in this location as it would need to be sunny/not
raining to film, as there is no cover which would result in equipment getting
damaged. To film here, I would need to contact North York Moors National Parks,
to find out who owns the area of land I would like to film in, and to ask them for
permission to film here. This would cost around £2 in petrol to get there.
Kilburn Woods – this is located next to Sutton Bank, which would mean that
filming could be done in the same day without travelling. This is an area that is
quite accessible, however the shots will be dependent on the weather.
A field – I have a friend that owns a field, where we could film our shots with the
smoke bombs, as it would mean that it is not in a public place, meaning we would
not be breaking the law by letting them off. Also, this would be really cost
effective, as they’re not charging for us to film there.
My House – I would be using my house to shoot the lip syncing shots with the
lighting gels, which would be free and very accessible and wouldn’t rely on the
weather being a certain way.

Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I have looked into places that we could edit the video in,
however there isn’t many places locally, that would
require us to travel really far to edit the video. Instead, it
would be easier to hire an editor to edit the video for us.
The prices to hire an editor is usually paid by hour, and
the most common price is around £20 per hour. The
video would take around 2 days to edit, with around 6
hours per day which would work out at roughly £240 for
the video to be edited. This would help as if there are
certain ways we would like the video to be edited, but
don’t have the skills for, it would give us the opportunity
to use their skills to our advantage.

29. PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost
implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?
I will be using one of my friends as the main character in my video. They
are available every day apart from Saturdays. Her strengths are that she is
willing to do anything to help out, but a weakness would be is that she
doesn’t have much experience with music videos/being filmed.
I would also need somebody else to help with lighting and setting up
equipment etc. as it would be very difficult to do it all by myself. I have a
couple of other friends that can help, however it depends on the day to
whether they are available to help or not.
I would not need to pay my friend to be in the video, as she is willing to
do it, but it will cost to feed them. I would give them £20 each per day for
food. I am aiming to have the video filmed in 4 days, which would mean
that with 2 people helping, it would cost £160 to pay for their food
throughout.
Also, it would cost to transport them. It would cost around £2 to pay for
the petrol to film at Sutton Bank, however, we would need to pay more to
transport additional people. I would say that £30 would be enough to
transport 3 people and the equipment to the location.

as there may be paths which aren’t suitable to walk on,
which we would need to be sure of. Also, there may be
some issues with carrying equipment, as the paths are
sometimes unsafe, which would mean we would need
extra people to carry equipment.

Filming for the lip syncing shots went
really smoothly as we had an idea of
what we were doing before we started
filming, so this helped us to get the
filming completed. However, we
weren’t too sure on how the lighting
was going to work as I had planned to
use lighting gels to create the colours,
but we used coloured cellophane
instead. At first we had tried to place
the cellophane in front of the lights but
this did not create the bright colour I
was hoping for. We then decided to
place the cellophane in front of the
lens.
