Initial Plans

Remember…
Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
Idea one
• Overture – AJR – The Click (2017)
• Focus on one person listen to the song and all
the themes from the music is happening to
him with creative in camera transitions moving
him from scene to scene.
• The song is a combination of all the songs in
the album so there are many different themes
to be shown in the scenes.
• The name of each song could appear with the
use of AE in each scene. It can be motion
tracked or not depending on how its shot.
• One way it could be shot would be to have the
person listen to it instead of the whole album.
Starts with him waiting outside work and
getting a text to say listen to this whole album.
*SONG PLAYS* Back outside going in
Idea two
• Guillotine – Jon Bellion
• Focus on a guy and his girl and there
struggles. Black and white when
separated and a pink light or could grade
when together
• The song is about how she is always there
for him even in his emotional states
• Special Effects
• Motion track the title and who by an
opening shot with AE.
• Use in camera transitions and so in post to
move from scene to scene.
• I want to try and do a 360 shot of the main
actor
HOME …
Idea three
• Thou Shalt Always Kill – Scroobius Pip
• Sourced footage with my own edits over
the top and most my shot footage.
• The song is modern mick take on pop
culture.
Speed up but in time
Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• Not too complex
• Some adventurous shots
• Can look very professional
• Not a lot of after effects work will be needed
• Not too many actors needed either
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
• Don’t know too many actors
• Editing will take time for idea 3
• Complex transitions could be an issues for idea 1
• The story is on the complex side for idea 2
• Lots of special effects for idea 1
Final idea – artist/title/info
• Guillotine – Jon Bellion
• From Long Island, New York, Jon began his artistic career creating
mixtapes. He made is first album in 2016 and released another after
that.
• Many people like him alongside AJR and Quinn XCII
• His genre of music is very new a sort of indie pop combined with
electronic music. It is very up and coming due to the combination of
meaning full lyrics and bouncy rhythms.
Final idea – track summary
Summary/analysis of track
• Meaning and content: There are 2 short verses and the chorus is
repeated 3 times. This is also a bridge between the 2 chorus's. The
song is about a real love between two people who support each
other through all the emotions and their actions. They both have
issues but still stay too together
• Duration and pace: It is quite a soulful song for the verses and bopy
and dance-y for the chorus. It is 3.29 and cant really be cut down
unlike most songs.
Final idea – your idea
Your creative concept/video synopsis
• The music videos by other artists usually include the artists doing
there stuff but for this one
• I want to tell a story of two people and show there connection
through the video
• I will use the two actors and only two actors show that they only
need each other.
Final idea – techniques and styles
Video techniques/style/conventions to be used
• The speed changes and the video can easily match that with the pace
of the cuts and shot type. So for the slow parts I am going to use
close-ups to create a sense of connection with the viewer, I will use
an 85mm lens as it adds a nice bokeh effect wide open. For the faster
more bopyer parts I am going to quick cuts and wide, between 18mm
and 50mm to give context to the scene.
• I will use subtle changes in colour grade to show any changes in the
characters feelings. For example, I will use pinks when they are in
frame as it is an intermate colour used to show love. When only one
of them are in frame I will use a more bland colour and a low contrast
to show how dull life is without eachother
Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• Easy to do
• Will look good
• Nice use of special effects that aren’t too intensive
• Easy to do the colour grade
• Wont take too long to shoot either
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
• Don’t know too many actors
• Will have to decent to pull of nicely
• Will need a few locations
• The edit will be a nightmare as its going to be cut to the beat
Potential research targets
• Motion Tracking on After effects
• Scene transitions
• Cloning people in premier pro
