2. The concept
• The concept of my song will have a dark theme to it as the music video
does not use a lot of bright colours and the song is all about someone
yearning for human interaction. As her home life is not that great s she
doesn’t have an easy relationship with her parents and does not have a
lot of friends at school.
• My music video will be filmed in two different locations, some of the
filming will be done at my house and other bits of filming will be done at
Ward Jackson Park
• The filming that will take place in my house will show the audience her
home life and what she deals with on a day to day basis, and the climax
until she leaves the household. The filming that will take place in Ward
Jackson Park will follow the narrative storyline as the audience will follow
the character from when she leaves the house to Ward Jackson Park
where she will finish singing the rest of the song. The music video will end
as she walks away from the camera and it will fade out to white.
• The concept of the music video will focus on the real life problems of a
teenager, and therefore this music video may relate to the audience as
their home life my be similar to the home life that I have portrayed in my
music video.
3. Narrative and Performance
• I would like to have my music video to have a narrative as myself
I am not a big fan of music videos that do not have a narrative
storyline as I find it hard to work out the concept of the music
video an what the artist was trying to achieve.
• With majority of music videos it is good as there is a narrative as
it will help the audience connect to relationship between the
visuals and the lyrics. I have watched various Tonight Alive
videos to see if of there music video follow a key concept of
storyline. Two of their music videos “Lonely Girl” and “Come
Home” have a narrative structure to them and they which are not
that complicated to for the audience to follow the storyline. This
is also a key point for me as I want my audience to be able to
understand the narrative of my music video but o to be able to
see the relationship between the visuals and the text.
• In my music video I will try and maintain close ups of the singer
as the audience will be curious into what the look like, but also it
is demanded my the record label.
4. Human interaction
• This is the main theme and the main emotion for my music
video as human interaction is important in society as if we
isolate ourselves we start to become insane. Therefore this is
a very negative emotion as it can have a negative effect on
the human mind. As my character does not have a very good
home life this has left her to become isolated within herself
and has excluded herself from everyone and anyone.
• Another main emotion that my music video will focus on is
hope and self belief. These are two emotions to show within
my video as my character will gain hope that there is a better
life for her and that she needs a better life and therefore she
finds herself leaving her home in search of a better life.
5. Camera and
Editing • The camera shots that I will use will vary from a shallow focus, deep focus,
pan, whip pan, tilt, tracking, pull focus, zoom in and zoom out. If I can use of
these in my music video then I will have achieved the criteria for a music
video, but it will also keep the audience engaged with the music video as if
they get bored of my video they can simply stop watching it.
• I will also try and get as much shooting done as I can as if I shoot to little then I
may struggle trying to edit my final piece, whereas if I overshoot I can
guarantee that I will have enough content to edit.
• The camera that I will use to shoot my music video will be a Cannon DLSR as
it can be used to take pictures as well as recorded. The DLSR camera are
very portable so I can take it to the location where I need to shoot. Also with
the DLSR camera they can be attached to a tripod this will help me achieve a
steady shot as if my camera is hand held that the shot make look shaky.
• I have had great experience at using these camera before as I used this type
of camera last year when I had to take pictures for my magazine which I had to
create for my AS Media. I found this types of cameras very easy to use as it
was very easy to set up and there it ha a number of settings that the camera
could be set to to help me shoot in a certain locations and in certain lighting.
• The editing techniques that I will use will range from a shot reverse shot, eye
line match, match on action, cutaway and an elliptical edit which shows the
passing of time.
• I will use Final Cut Pro to edit my music video.
6. Lighting
• The lighting that I will use will be mainly natural lighting
as therefore I will not have to spend time trying to get
the correct lighting. I could always change the lighting
to suit the mood of the music video as I could put a
grey filter over the film, this will help me to show the
audience that the music video will not be a bright and
colourful video, but a dull and dingy music video.
• As my music video will be filmed outside I need to
make sure that I film when it is bright in order for me
and the audience to see what is going on in the shot.
As well as this I need to consider the best times to
shoot outside as it is starting to get dark very quickly.
So is I film anytime after 4:00pm then the lighting in my
film will not be vey good as I and the audience will
struggle to see what is happening in the film.
