A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
4. Idea one
• Dark knight Dummo – Trippie redd ft. Travis scott.
• The video starts in a dark grotto set up which goes well with the initial start of the song, as
the songs get more upbeat the characters start to move quicker and more light comes in. in
the video the characters in side have a lot of money and goods and as you can see they are
looking out for what seems to be monsters outside, there are a lot of traps which they
trigger, this parts could be scary. Army outfits are worn as the people gear up for what
looks like a war. A lot of guns and weapons are used and this part is where the song
reaches the chorus and I think that this works well as it fits in with the fast paced theme of
the song. It seems that they have won the fight and they go back to partying and counting
money. As Travis Scott comes out he is in a big truck as if he is the leader, in this shot there
is a very big moon in the back and I think this fits with his verse, as his verse is slower and
more of a dance beat and as he is mouthing the lyrics to this he is shooting and killing
people while still looking very calm. One of the final scenes if Travis running someone over
in his truck with the moon light shining in on the grave yard.
5. Idea two
• Asap rocky- sundress
• This music video starts with a slow motion video of a very close up shot of asap rocky,
which looks like it has been edited to seem quite old, it also has a bright blue feature I think
that this works well as the beginning of the song is just a simple beat. The next scene is
Asap Rocky in the back seat of a car with two girls and this is the next scene while the song
is starting however the song sounds like it is being played through the radio of the car and I
think this works well as because when the song actually starts it goes into a parking lot
where everyone is stuck in time and stood still , the camera is following a long row of
people as they are frozen and I think this looks good as the song starts of a slow more
mellow beat. Then asap is walking with a few people and sees all these still people, even in
the club everyone is stuck still. One part of the video is when a girl sees asap with another
girl and pulls out a gun everything is in slow motion and we continue to see almost images
of scenes that are happening. We then see some shots through almost like a hole and I
think that this creates almost like a god effect as when it starts to actually focus and the
hole gets bigger the light at the end gets brighter. Throughout this music video we see
many different camera angles for example at one point it looks as if the camera is spinning
and the person is stood still and I think that this works well for the type of song it is.
Towards the chorus of the song there are an image slideshow of a scene which is brushing
the teeth. The camera then pans out and it appears that we were watching on a phone and
the same girl is holding as if it was in the past. At the end there are a lot of old fashion
written words appear on the screen and this is what the video was trying to get the viewer
to think about.
6. Idea three
• SL – tropical
• This music video starts off with what looks like a drone captured scene from very high in
the sky looking down at a very snowy place, this drone is following a car as it drives around,
the next shot is a very high quality shot of a pair of shoes walking as bits of ice and snow fly
around because of the shoes, this is an interesting shot as the sun is beaming in the
background on the ice and I think this is a very aesthic shot. We then go back to the drone
as the car pulls into a house which looks quite far away from others and still in this icy
place. A quick montage of the drone from different areas capturing the same moment as
the car pulls in. we then get some shots of a water fall, then leading on to a character going
to open the car door and get in the car. Now the character is standing out the top of the car
as the drone follows them round. As the lyrics start the male character is sat on top of the
car wearing what looks like ski gear and mouthing the lyrics along with the song, the song
continues as the drone follows this character around in many different settings. There are a
lot of landscape shots in this winter place with the sun rising and setting and I think that
this fits the style of the song as it is very slow and more calm.
8. Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• In my opinion I think that one of my ideas is one about a timeline of one person ‘growing’ up as I feel that this
would go with each of the songs well however I could make it suited towards one song more
• A strength is that I have looked at all the different options for the locations and I feel that the best one is
outside and in/ around cars as I feel that this is a popular choice when it comes to music videos.
• I think using a green screen will be useful as it will allow me to be creative when it comes to the background
and the clothes that they wear, this will also make it easier to make it seem like it has been filmed there
opposed to actually trying to find something.
• One of my ideas is the destruction of things for example smashing things up e.g. mirrors/glass/cars as I think
that this is well known when it comes to music videos and I think that it will attract my audience.
• I have put down filming in different angles to make a different perception for example using a tube to film
through creates almost like a light at the end of the tunnel effect and gives a different feel to the whole video.
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
• A weakness of my ideas is that I haven't ranged out of a wide view point and realistically my ideas all fit under
the same category I think that this is a weakness as it doesn't give that much room for different ideas.
• Another weakness of my ideas is I haven't really got much on the people which will be the main focus as I
initially felt that what the people are doing doesn't matter however I think that this plays big role in the whole
of the music video.
• For one of my ideas I put cars on fire and I think that this would look good however I don’t think that this idea is
appropriate or accessible to do.
• In my mind map I haven't really thought about the different props that I will be using and I think that this is a
weakness as the props are a big part in any music video otherwise there wouldn't be that much to look at.
• A weakness of my ideas is that I did a whole section about a secret party/rave however in the brief it says that
this would be unsuitable for my target audience.
9. Final idea – artist/title/info
• Name of track / name of artist
• Brief biographical background
• Links to other artists
• Genre info
• Sundress – ASAP Rocky
• "Sundress" is a song by American rapper ASAP Rocky , released as a single on November 20, 2018. It
was co-produced by Danger mouse and samples the 2010 tame impala song “ why wont you make up
your mind “ Its music video was released the same day.
• The music video was directed by Frank Lebon and features a woman that is ASAP Rocky's girlfriend ,
pointing a gun at him in a club where everybody is frozen in time. ASAP Rocky always refers to himself as
an artist and his music videos is where you get to see a part of his mind and art.
• ASAP Rocky is an American rapper who came into the music scene in 2011 and soon after released his
chart-topping albums ‘long live asap’ and ‘ at long last asap’ ASAP Rocky is part of the ASAP Mob which
he joined at the age of 19 in this group they all start their stage names with ASAP which stands for
Always Strive And Prosper, ASAP Rocky's net worth is estimated to be $6 million dollars in 2018.
• Other artists – Lil Uzi vert, Travis Scott , Kanye west, Skepta
10. Final idea – track summary
• Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration,
pace and style of the song]
• I have decided to use this track as I feel that it meets a lot of criteria and isn't one specific
genre of music as it has a varied mixture from rap to just a slow mellow beat to pop in just
one song. The meaning of this song is all about his life and relationships with girls and he
addresses a girl who caused him so much hurt after abandoning him, in this song he opens
the song talking about how he’s adjusting to pain after she left him for another man. He
refers to the man she left him for as the wrong man. As the verses continue he goes into
the second verse reminiscing about the wonderful times they had together, he repeatedly
mentions how they often planned about having kids together in the future, while talking
about this he reveals that he has a new girlfriend and this is where the song hits it peak.
The duration of this song is 2:58 however the pace is very slow and mellow and unlike his
more well known songs, I think that this song will work for a lot of people and many
different styles of music videos will go with this track well.
11. Final idea – your idea
• Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation,
use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
• My idea for my final music video is a timeline/flashback video where it is initially
set on the beach as the song is starting and a different use of camera angles for
example the use of a spinning camera into the characters head and as the
camera comes away it looks like an animated game on the beach but the
characters are confused and they start running from their demons. The video will
end in the character acting as if he has someone better now however their will
always be a place in his heart for his past that he has left behind. For the setting
of my video I will be on a beach in gloomy weather and this will be the on going
theme for my video and kind of dull background with dull face expressions as I
feel that this will fit in with the song more. Parts of the song I will have the
character lip syncing the song for example at the chorus but not throughout the
song.
12. Final idea – techniques and styles
• Video techniques/style/conventions to be used [include how you
intend to implement these]
• The video style for my music video will be very mellow and soft with the different
transitions from an edited screen to not it will seem that the character is getting confused
just like the song when ASAP Rocky is sad and confused. The style of editing I will use will
be very colorful parts and patterns on a normal background for example one part where a
character might be wearing a black top in one scene, in another the top will change colour
and the character will be confused. To do some of this I will make sure that I cut some of
the scenes to the same beat as the song as I feel that it will look more professional if the
clips change at the same time. I will also include a wide range of camera movements for
example different angles like a bird and worm eye view to get a different perspective of it
while also using a dropping camera effect/ running/ jumping and spinning the camera. I
may use Chroma key however I want my video to look as realistic as possible as if they are
just out doing what normal humans do and not overally edited.
13. Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• A strength of my ideas is that I have a half edited and half just normal parts of my music video as I feel that this
will keep the viewer entertained and more likely to keep watching.
• I think that a strength will be using a more dull background like the beach as they wont be many other people
there that could effect the recording and that it will fit in with the song that I have chosen as there are high and
low points of the song.
• Another strength of my idea is that I think different styles of filming and camera angles will really make the
video more unique and interesting to actually watch.
• I think that making sure that the song timing matches the videos and when they change and cut will be good as
it means that it wont seem out of time.
• I think that the use of lip syncing and miming will it help the viewer to know that this is a music video however
not all of it will be mimed by the character as I think then there couldn't really be a story behind it.
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
• A weakness of my idea is that I think using just one background could be difficult as it means that there isn't
anything new and exciting to look at its just the same setting throughout.
• Another weakness of my idea is that I think using a green screen will not fit in with the setting as much as it
wont look as realistic.
• In my opinion I think that the animated part could look good however I think that it will be hard to get the right
parts for when it comes to editing it as I only have one chance to get all the recording done.
• I think that shooting my parts at a beach will look good however my video isn't starting with anything
necessarily fun or exciting so this might not entertain my viewers.
14. Potential research targets
• I will need to research the different locations that I will be traveling to so that I
can find the best places possible and to make sure that I make the most out of
this trip. For my video I will also need to research some different camera
techniques so that I can create all the different shots that I am planning to do for
example I am planning to do a spinning shot where the camera is spinning into a
characters head and then it spins back out therefore I need to make sure I do this
the correct and safe way opposed to potentially breaking the camera. I will also
have to research all the different props and resources that I will need and want
to use for my actual music video for example I am wanting to break up
mirrors/doors and other pieces therefore I am going to need to source these
different parts.
Editor's Notes
What techniques, resources, locations, etc will you need to research?
