Screening of Maize Genotypes/Hybrids for Identifying Resistant Sources agains...Premier Publishers
The research included field screening of maize genotypes/hybrids for resistance to banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB). The field screening experiment was done in a sick plot maintained at National Maize Research Program (NMRP) of Nepal Agricultural Research Council, Rampur, Chitwan. Fifteen maize genotypes/hybrids were evaluated in the field and replicated three times in randomized complete block design (RCBD). First disease incidence was observed on 60 days after sowing (DAS). Highest disease severity (81.33±1.67) was found in RL-36/RL-197. RML-76/RL-105 and RAMPUR HYBRID-2 had lowest disease severity (66.00±2.00). Also, lowest area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) value (631.67±18.33) was found in RML-76/RL-105, which was at par with P-3533 (660.00±26.67). Cob weight (r = 0.64), cob diameter (r = 0.51) and thousand grain weight (r = 0.50) were negatively correlated with total AUDPC. Total AUDPC value contributed 41.6 percent loss in cob weight, 26.2 percent loss in cob diameter and 25.5 percent loss in thousand grain weight.
INDICATOR SPECIES ANALYSES OF WEED COMMUNITIES OF MAIZE CROP IN DISTRICT MARD...Shujaul Mulk Khan
Weeds are unwanted plant species growing in natural environment. Composition and abundance of weeds are influenced by number of environmental variables as well as farming practices in an ecosystem. Present study was formulated to measure the effect of environmental variables on weed species composition, abundance, distribution pattern and formation of various weeds communities in Union Council Shahbaz Ghari (total area 3956 ha, Agriculture land 1701 ha), District Mardan. Quantitative ecological techniques by adapting quadrat method were used to assess environmental variability and weed species distribution in the targeted region. Nine quadrats of 1×1 m2 size were placed randomly in 65 different fields of the UC. Phytosociological attributes such as density, frequency, relative density, relative frequency and Importance Values were measured for each field. Preliminary results showed that UC Shahbaz Ghari has 29 different weed species belong to 15 different families. Presence absence (1,0) data of 29 species and 65 fields were analyzed using Cluster and Two Way Cluster Analysesvia PC-ORD version 5 resulting four major weed communities. Dominant weed species of the area are Cyperus rotundus, Urochloa panicoides, Brachiaria ramosa, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Commelina benghalensis and Canvolvulus arvensis while Cannabis sativa, Ipomea purpurea, Amaranthus blitoides, Xanthium strumarium, Lactuca dissecta and Cucurbita maxima are rare weed species. Indicator Species Analyses (ISA) of data identified indicators of each sort of micro environmental condition. Based on our findings, it is recommended that awareness can be created among farmers especially about their farming practices to minimize noxious weeds of maize crop

rice genotypes against rice blast disease under DSR condition at
Mid hill during rainy season of 2017. Screening of different
genotypes was carried out in a field against rice blast disease and
checked in one factor RCBD with 3 replication and 9 genotype.
The experiment was conducted to impart knowledge about the
response of different genotype against rice blast disease. The
disease severity, AUDPC was found high in Shankharika
genotype while found low in Sabitri genotype. Thus the use of
Sabitri genotype provide proper resistance against rice blast
disease in rice under the hill region of Baitadi district under
Direct Seeded Rice(DSR) condition.
Abstract— The aim of this study was to attempt to identify elite inbred lines resistant to tropical rust, southern rust, gray leaf spot, northern leaf blight, physoderma brown spot and phaeosphaeria leaf spot. Fifty inbred lines were evaluated, in two seasons, in randomized blocks with 3 replications for AUDPC (Area Under the Disease Progress Curve), obtained by evaluation of the disease at 45, 60, 75 and 90 days after planting. Rating of at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 corresponded to 0, 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and > 80% of leaf symptoms, respectively. The joint analysis of variance had significant differences between inbred lines for tropical rust, southern rust, gray leaf spot and phaeosphaeria leaf spot. There was a significant interaction between inbred lines and seasons for both tropical rust and southern rust. In season 1, tropical rust, southern rust and gray leaf spot differed significantly. In season 2, significant differences occurred for southern rust and phaeosphaeria leaf spot. We found 12 inbred lines with improved levels of resistance to tropical rust, southern rust and gray leaf spot. For phaeosphaeria leaf spot, 38 inbred lines had satisfactory resistance.
Assessment of Genetic Diversity in 13 Local Banana (Musa Spp.) Cultivars Usin...paperpublications3
Abstract: A Study was conducted to investigate the genetic variability among 13 local banana cultivars using 3 SSR primers of Mb1-69, Mb1-113 and Mb1-134. All the primer pairs amplified a total of 29 different marker bands with an average of 9.6 bands per primer. Among the 29 bands only 4 bands were monomorphic and the rest 25 bands were polymorphic. The sizes of the amplified DNA bands in 13 local banana cultivars varied from 200 bp to 600 bp. The primer Mb1-113 amplified the highest (14) number of DNA bands and the primer Mb1-69 amplified the lowest (7) number of DNA bands whilst primer Mb1-134 amplified 8 DNA bands. The values of pair-wise genetic distances ranged from 1.00 to 9.00 indicating the presence of wide genetic diversity. The dendogram constructed based on phylogenetic relationship analysis revealed that the highest genetic diversity (9.00) found between the cultivars champa and jawayta and also the cultivars champa and jahazy whilst the lowest (1.00) between the cultivars doubled haploid and kathaly, doubled haploid and sorishafruity, doubled haploid and amritsagor and doubled haploid and ganasundory. The UPGMA dendogram has segregated the 13 local banana cultivars into two major clusters. Agnishwar and champa formed in cluster 1 and the rest of the cultivars like sobri jesore, sobri, anazy, kathaly, jawayta, sorishafruity, amritsagor, jahazy, bangle, ganasundory and doubled haploid have constituted the cluster 2.
Influence of Various Intercrops on Pod Borers in Black Gramijtsrd
The aim of this study was to observe the influence of various intercrops on pod borers in black gram under rain fed condition. Among the different intercrops studied, marigold recorded the lowest mean population of spotted pod borer (0.74 larvaplant) and gram blue butterfly larva (0.88 larvaplant)and natural enemies like Coccinellids (2.68 beetlesplant) and spider population (1.73 spiderplant) was maximum in black gram intercropped with maize. The maximum equivalent yield was obtained from black gram intercropped with marigold (6.04 qha) followed by black gram intercropped with maize (5.24 qha).In conclusion marigold proved to be effective intercrop to control major pod borer and also enhance the population of natural enemies. Impact of wheat-rapeseed perimeter crop and environmental factors on the occu...Innspub Net
The wheat aphid species individually and collectively cause severe damage to the wheat crop qualitatively and quantitatively. The incidence of these aphids is influenced by a number of biotic factors such as host plant resistance, availability of the natural enemies and the major abiotic factors such as temperature, humidity and rainfall. In the present investigation, the incidence and abundance of wheat aphid species were recorded with rapeseed as a perimeter crop. The results showed that wheat was infested by two major aphid species, bird cherry oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi and green peach aphid, Myzus persicae with rapeseed as a perimeter crop. The results further suggested that the level of infestation in wheat with perimeter crop remained low compared to check, influenced by the presence of natural enemies, however, the level of infestation of M. persicae remained highly influenced by the high level of infestation in rapeseed. In light of the above experimental results we concluded that the rapeseed influenced the population of R. padi and deterred S. avenae, however, encouraged M. persicae to infest wheat crop.

5. Results Pest dynamics Five insect pests, viz ., whorl maggot, hispa, yellow stem borer, leaf folder and green leaf hoppers, were observed at different stages of crop growth period. Among these pests, incidence of yellow stem borer was high in various treatments followed by leaf folder. Others pests occurred at low level. In Rabi 2006, the mean per cent of dead hearts was significantly different at maximum tillering stage for the alternative methods of rice cultivation and also among the varieties.
