Langston Hughes And The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a social and cultural movement aimed to alter the conventional notion of
The Negro and to expound on African American s adversities through literature, music, and visual
arts. After World War I, Harlem, New York became a central location for African Americans for
greener pastures and racial equality. Large quantities of black writers, artists, and intellectuals
emerged within the urban scene and played a pivotal role of defining the movement in their respective
fields. As a result, Harlem became a creative mecca and established a birthplace of black pride in the
United States. Langston Hughes, a prominent poet during the 1920s, helped pave a road for literary
innovation. Langston possessed an ability to portray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1921, Langston Hughes enrolled at Columbia University and studied the field of engineering. It was
a short lived educational process, however Hughes affiliated himself with the prospering cultural
movement within the vicinity of Harlem, New York. In the early 1920s, he commenced on traveling in
foreign countries and continued to publish his poetries. The public exposure of his writing
composition increased by connections of American poet Vachel Lindsey and novelist Carl Van
Vechten. In 1925, Hughes s poem The Weary Blues won the first prize in the Opportunity magazine
literary competition which earned him a scholarship to Lincoln University. The essence of poetry is its
versatility of evoking images and feelings. The Weary Blues appealed to a broad spectrum of audience
for his distinct style of integrating jazz rhythm and dialect in order to delineate urban blacks. Racial
segregation was prolonged for many generations. Due to Hughes s mixed status as Caucasian and
African American, he was unable to immerse himself within the two contradicting ethnic groups.
Hughes expressed his perplexity through his work called Cross. The poem also addressed the
difference of faith between two different racial groups. Case in point, the poem states, My old man
died in a fine big house. My ma died in a shack. Both coexist in the same society, but their death
symbolizes the dissimilar treatment.
Although Hughes was criticized by

The General Theory Of Crime Essay
Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent
criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary
determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general
theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual
possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by
educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime (1990)
essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted
book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from
murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A
General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This
impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking,
drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and
Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory
of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in
relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi
(1990) failed to include the

Pope John Paul II s Eugene Letter
Fr. Joseph Byerley used scripture, St. Pope John Paul II s Apostolic letter on the meaning of human
suffering and practical examples to answer the age old question of why God allows good people to
suffer.
I will attempt to give a summary of his talk here, but will preface that this is just a summary and does
not do justice to the clarity, depth and beauty of his talk.
He started by defining the word Redemption, which means to buy back or ransom. Human suffering,
when united with Christ s, can remit punishment due to sin. This is not connected to forgiveness.
Divine justice requires that the original goodness which existed prior to the offense must be restored.
We may be forgiven of our sins, but there is still damage which must be repaired. ... Show more

It is a real and true participation in the loving sacrifice of Christ that earned our redemption. We
participate in that.
John Paul II said, Thus to share in the sufferings of Christ is at the same time to suffer for the
Kingdom of God. In the eyes of the just God, before his judgement, those who share in the suffering
of Christ become worthy of His kingdom....Christ has led us into His kingdom through His suffering,
and also through suffering, those surrounded by the mystery of Christ s redemption, become mature
enough to enter into His kingdom.
It s not that redemption is not complete. We know that redemption is complete, but we say that
redemption is also continually open to all love that is expressed through human suffering. Suffering
can be offered up for others as an act of love. But as St. Catherine of Siena said, we must not go out
looking for suffering, as in and of itself, it is not good. Enough is sent our way, without searching it
out. Only when it is consumed in love, can it be converted to good. So as we offer up our suffering,
remember what St. Augustine said, A general derives no joy from vanquishing a weak

Baroque Vs Renaissance Music
Every culture and civilization has been impacted in one way or another by music. Music is a universal
phenomenon that continues to grow and develop still to this day. There are millions of people who
connect to music in some way. Some individuals simply enjoy listening to music, others enjoy playing
it, and there are some people who look deep into the trends, history, and evolution of music. In this
paper, I chose to do a comparison on the renaissance and baroque period; to analyze the differences
between the renaissance and baroque musically and socially. Both time periods impacted the
development of music and social tendencies in a crucial way.
The Renaissance was a period in history from the 14th to the 17th century. The term Renaissance
Music refers to the music composed and written during the Renaissance era. These compositions were
a huge impact on music following this time period. The Renaissance era of music began in 1440 C AD
and lasted until 1600 C AD. Through this period rhythms were buoyant, and medieval counterpoints
were further developed by renaissance composers to create fugues. A fugue is a contrapuntal
composition in which a short melody or phrase is introduced by one part and successively taken up by
others and developed by interweaving the parts. Fugues are a very popular technique still to this day,
and were used more and more through the Baroque period. The new counterpoint that was introduced
based on preference for consonance, including thirds and

Public Service Announcements (PSA)
Texting while driving has become a public epidemic especially within these past years . With the
growth of the public texting and driving, the Public Service Announcements (PSA) have been put in
place to help persuade the public to stop. Along with the creation of PSA s, the creation of doubt that
PSA actually work s has also come up. Though the result s of PSA and it s effectiveness are little.
Compared to other law s that have been placed and other methods being used, it s proving to be the
most effective. The Government and committee s, when it come s to stopping a person from texting

Essay On The Dark Sword
The dim moonlight shone through the windows, giving life to the dancing shadows on the cold stone
floors. A small, lithe figure clad in head to toe black, and armed to the teeth strode upon them. The
only sound she made was the faint scuffle of her boots on the frigid flagstone floor. She moved with a
purpose, striding down the halls in the shadows, watching for any approaching figures that might alert
the sleeping castle to her presence.
She slowly rounded the corner, still shrouded in the shadows, ever vigilant for possible guards or
servants passing through the drafty castle halls. She approached the heavy, oaken door at the end of
the corridor that was surrounded by six attentive guards all dressed in the Black Crescent Kingdom s

The sleeping monarch inside the now unguarded chamber had absolutely no idea of their impending
demise. Once the assassin was in the room, she barricaded the door with a heavy wooden chest of
drawers and several chairs.
She advanced towards the bed, careful not to wake the sleeping queen, absentmindedly fiddling with
her daggers, trying to decide which one to use on the queen. At the sight of the woman lying on the
bed, her fiery hair flowing all over the pillow, her hand went to the dark jade stone at her throat. Done
with her moment of remembrance, her scarred hand jerked out and seized the queen s pale, unmarred
throat, pulling her from her slumber, and the assassin dragged her towards the balcony, while the
queen thrashed and clawed at the hands holding her throat in an iron grip. The assailant released her
prey by throwing her to the ground, the queen rolling for several feet before hitting the stone railing on
the balcony, instantly soaked by the pouring rain. As she stepped into the howling wind and beating
rain, lightning flashed and the queen saw her face, the face of someone who should have been long
dead.
You... you should be dead...How? the shocked queen stammered.
You know, Amira, when you try to have your friends killed, you should really be more thorough. the
smirking assassin replied. Maybe in your next life, you ll have the guts to kill me yourself.

The Importance Of Effective To Police Use Of Force
Law enforcement agencies have policies regarding use of force that need reform. There is concern for
the balance of ethical decision making by police officers. There is also an equal concern for the rights
and value of life of civilians along with those of officers. Maintaining stress free standards for
employed law enforcement is detrimental to police use of force directives. Police organizations can
prevent and correct their citizen interaction without the use of excessive force. It is imperative that a
process be found that could identify potential issues prior to use of force events occurring. Measures
can be taken early by police agencies to avoid officers initiating criminal misconduct. Police training
and development of communication techniques will provide the reform needed to subvert the idea of
an excessive use of force police culture. Logic should be administered alongside reasoning prior to the
use of any force, specifically deadly force. There is no reasonable explanation for excessive use of
force so it should be prevented instead of authorized socially and accepted. Most of the police
operations that incite negative outcomes are preventable with the implementation of appropriate
training. In the article by Gross (2017) he discusses several accounts of the excessive use of force by
police in America. Some of these accounts have changed some laws, i.e. The Supreme Court case of
Graham v. Connor (1989). The facts of the case were that a diabetic man named

Reflective Essay On Group Diversity
Through my work in groups, I have had to adjust my feedback and leadership styles based on the
different cultures of my group members. Every organization has its own unique spoken and unspoken
rules that define the culture. Culture is often simply stated as, the way we work around here. Cultures
are formed and change through a variety of environmental events, leadership, and experiences (Weiss,
Tilin, Morgan, 2014, p. 153). I need more here maybe?
When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into
some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all
settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of
others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance
into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it
is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and
beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those
high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some
members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for
results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more
insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of
work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others.
My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from
constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing
what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences.
By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well
as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al.,
2014, p. 141). So far my experiences in providing and receiving feedback within my group have been
mostly positive.

Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises
Causes and Policies in Financial Crises
Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial
Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been
questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro
financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy
(Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups:
Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking
crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the
interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different
types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and
central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to
appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks
have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms
and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to
develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth
and inflation.
The last major financial crises demonstrate that the

The Disillusion Of Middlemarch
This chapter focuses on analyzing and explaining the four main story lines in this novel. It focuses on
describing the disillusion, exploring the reasons and making a short summary. Middlemarch represents
a frustrating scene through these four story lines. In this small town, people deliberately plan,
engineer, elaborate and pursue. But the outcome backfires. The end is frustrated or just passable. Each
person s disillusion is caused by both social reasons and personal reasons. Everyone should be

Give Me Liberty By Eric Foner Summary
In this excerpt from Eric Foner s Give Me Liberty!, he discusses the significance of religion in the
lives of Native Americans, as well as the social relations of Native Americans and the freedom and
liberty they attempted to acquire. As mentioned in the previous discussion, certain tribes in North
America were diverse. Although, they shared a common ideal and that was religion. Despite what
most of us may think, their religion was not quite different to those of Europeans. Moreover, owning
property was also something Native Americans believe as being a common resource, not an economic
commodity, whereas in the United States, the only people that owned land and property were white
males. Like every society, social status played a major role in determining one s reputation. For
instance, kindness and trade were valued tremendously. In addition, the Native Americans valued
attributes like generosity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women s lives were different compared to other countries because women were open to do such tasks,
premarital sex, marriage, and divorce. Men, on the other hand, contributed in communities by hunting
and played a sort of role model of what a successful leader is like. Society wasn t really a patriarch yet
because women contributed in religious ceremonies as tribal leaders. Because of these different ideals
and beliefs, the Europeans perceived the Native Americans as noble savages, as opposed to their first
encounter describing them as beautiful of stature and build. However, as time went on, so did the
Europeans desire for conquest, which resulted in the conquering of their lands. The Native Americans
were then forced to do labor and like many endured throughout history, they were mistreated. The
arrival of the Europeans started the promotion of a patriarchal society, having women do housework
and men taking authority ultimately taking some freedom away from the Native

My Dream Of A Fashion Institute Of Technology
When applying to colleges, everyone has a goal in their mind that they are looking forward to
accomplishing. I also have an aim and plan which I want to execute in the best way possible. The first
and most crucial thing that holds immense importance in fulfilling your dream is the college one
chooses to go to. I chose Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) for many reasons, Starting off by
mentioning the wide variety of business and marketing programs they provide. Moreover, the
community of the college is known to be one of the best in New York, with a beautiful campus and
especially for me, the commute is a great steal. While applying to colleges, FIT caught my attention
the most. This was the only college, whom I see myself graduating from in four years with my dream
of a bachelor degree in marketing. The reason why I chose marketing is that I have always been a
social person who loves talking and most importantly I am an extremely organized person who knows
how to perform her tasks very well. So that is why I see myself working as a marketing manager for
big companies like Google and Apple.
While thousands of students will be applying to FIT, the question is What makes me the perfect
candidate for FIT and what makes me stand out? Well, unlike most students that mainly only are
concerned about their GPA and spend all their high school years in studying, I just did not study but
also took all advantages of my school clubs and community service opportunities. During my

and improvement of plant efficiency thru equipment upgrades. The usage of the technology has

making. Also the use of scrap materials has lessened the purchase of ore for steel making.
Furthermore, joint ventures have given them option to join global market of steel producers. However,
Nucor should be also wary on possible entrants that could offer low cost steel which might be a reason
for a loss of customers which in turn loose potential income and worst cut jobs.
Steel, being a commodity that is dictated by market demand, has been changing continually. But being
a low cost provider, it has resulted to numerous customers entering into non cancellable contracts.

Essay on Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Women are sexually exploited in the media. In today s society if people watch television programs
such as Chingy featuring Snoop Ludacris Holidae; Charlie s Angels; the Z100 commercial with
Britney Spears; or Baywatch they will see that the feminine image is presented differently than the
masculine. In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations fully clothed, while women
are presented in provocative clothing or less. The camera will frequently zoom in on body parts to
focus on the woman s buttocks, midriff, and legs. Society is still dominated by men who control what
people see. As a result women are increasingly portrayed as sex symbols as a way for a media

In 1998, $1billion was spent online on adult content, 69 percent of the total Internet content sales.
In most commercial advertisements on television, women show more skin than men. Commercials use
women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For instance,
Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial for Z100, the
number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in modes such as pop,
rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige outfit consisting of a
tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After talking for a moment, she
starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually drawn to the shape of her body.
As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a marketing tool to attract men and
increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its commercial. Instead the company s
executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass figure because men prefer to look at
young, shapely, nubile women.
Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their bodies
exposed in an effort to increase ratings. The show Baywatch is about lifeguards, both men and
women, working on the beach, but the females wear tight and particularly revealing bikinis. When the
show first came out, it was taken seriously as

How Did World War I s Technology Affected Trench Warfare
Throughout World War I technology changed the way war was fought and new defensives were
created every day to protect each respective side. Weapons were one of the major technological items
that changed the course of the war from soldiers fighting style from trench warfare to the first line of
defense. Artillery was a new piece of technology that impacted World War I especially during trench
warfare. Artillery was considered to be the number one threat to infantry due to its high explosive
power. Artillery s main use was to counter trench warfare to due to it shot at a trajectory in order to

The first American artillery round in World War I was on October 23, 1917. This demonstrates the
start of the use of artillery from the American perspective. Trench warfare seemed to have settled
down; General John J. Pershing insisted that American troops were to be trained in open warfare. By
the time American troops began to appear on the battlefield in significant numbers, the general did this
in order for the American troops to have skills in open warfare allowing for artillery to be moved
closer in order to attack the infantry thus the war had become more mobile. In 1918, American troops
joined in at Chateau Thierry to halt General Erich Ludendorff s offensive. Counterattacking under a
heavy artillery barrage, they cleared the Germans in 2 weeks. This demonstrates the power artillery
had during the war not only on the side of the Allies but also on the German side as well. On July 4,
allied artillery laid down a devastating barrage for an hour before the enemy s guns attacked. The
enemy fell back and a massive Allied attack was launched. Approximately 3,010 guns of 26 calibers
and 46 models poured 74 types of ammunition into the salient in the 4 hours and 45 minutes prior to
the attack. A total of about 900,000 rounds of ammunition

International performance
Resources and capabilities
The two main independent variables that have to be included in the conceptual model are the
management board and the resources and capabilities of the company. It has been discussed in the
literature that two of the four factors that influence the performance of businesses in their
internationalization process are the management level and the control of resource capacity (Zeng,
Tam, Wan, 2009). A distinction between resources and capabilities must be made: resources are the
productive assets of the firm, while the capabilities are what the firm can do. It is the management
board that decides upon the acquisition, development, usage and control of resources and the
development of capabilities. Managers will select a set of resources from those available to the firm
that they believe are responsible for achieving their vision of the business, which will result in the
desired sustained competitive advantage of the company (Kunc, Morecroft, 2010). Furthermore, the
board will have to decide on other matters as well, which can alter the international performance of
the company, whether it be positive or negative.
Background
In the next sections we will elaborate further on the links described in the conceptual framework. An
extensive review of the literature on these subjects will be given, which will be used to support the

Land Of The Dead
The film is set in an unspecified Victorian British village. Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp), son of a
nouveau riche merchant, and Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson), daughter of bankrupt aristocrats, are
engaged by their families to marry. When they meet each other for the first time, they like what they

forest, placing the wedding ring on what looks like a tree branch. The branch is actually the finger of a
deceased bride who is so thrilled by the prospect of marriage that she rises from the grave and spirits
Victor to the Land of the Dead. In the surprisingly festive afterlife, Victor learns that his new fiancee s
name is Emily (Helena Bonham Carter) and that she was murdered in the woods on the night of her
elopement.
Victor, wanting to get back to Victoria, convinces the magical Elder Gutknecht (Michael Gough) to

Victor s parents. Once back home, Victor rushes to see Victoria and confesses his love. Emily feels

Some celebrities and athletes have successfully dodged the media attention on some scandals.
However, Ryan Lochte was not fortunate enough to keep his scandal a secret, and was soon exposed
to the world of his wronging s during the Olympic Games. Soon after his exposure, many companies
that sponsored Lochte wanted out. Speedo was one of the main brands to discontinue Lochte s sponsor
and released an explanation on twitter. In addition, The Atlantic wrote about the issue with Lochte and
the several companies that were quick to end their sponsorship with Lochte. Both texts are different,
but each are a representation of what happens when someone like Lochte makes mistakes. While the
speedo tweet only focuses on Lochte and their brand, The Atlantic expands on the various decisions of
other companies. While both authors do an excellent job of conveying and interpreting their reasoning,

Calamur does not only limit himself to speedo s leaving, he incorporates the other three sponsorships
that have ended their deal with Lochte. Not only speedo ended Lochte s sponsorship, but also Ralph

Vertical Hour, Face
The Vertical Hour, Face, and What It Is are all very different novels with very different genres. The
Vertical Hour is a dramatic play written by David Hare. The play features three people, and one of
whom is a professor in a university who is still trying to figure things out. Face is a compilation of
poems written by Sherman Alexie. The poems are based on some times in Alexie s life and his
identity. What It Is is a graphic novel written by Lynda Barry. The novel features stories and pictures
about growing up. The play, poems, and graphic novel are quite different in terms of their genre, but
what is on the inside of the books is what brings them together. The Vertical Hour, Face, and What It

Focusing on their identity, culture, and lives growing up, they made stories and poems out of it in a
fun and creative way. Alexie and Barry s lives were very different apart from each other, but the same
effect can be made. They both went through tough and difficult times no matter what it was, and
ended up making the most out of it. The Vertical Hour does not have this in common. Instead of
focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it. This can really
compare and contrast the way children handle their lives versus adult s handling their lives. Of course
adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they do can hugely impact them.
But children start the base of their own lives before they become adults, and this ultimately shapes
them. No one can be an adult without first being a child. This is very obvious, but not in a certain way.
Before growing up and being responsible, children have to make dumb and stupid decisions. Alexie
barely wrote about this and Barry definitely did not. But this is a fact, in order to learn from mistakes,
we have to make these mistakes. Otherwise we would eventually just keep repeating the same
mistake. Learning from them is what moves us past them and truly grow up. Nadia, in The Vertical
Hour, learned from her mistake of quitting being a war reporter and went back

Lawlessness And Savagery In Jack And Jack s Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys stranded on an island that must work together to survive and
get rescued. At first, civilization still has a firm grasp on the boys, and they have rules to follow and a
plan to get rescued. However, as time goes on, lawlessness and savagery begins to set in, as they re
just a pack of boys. The death of two of the wisest boys on the island, Piggy and Simon, shows a real
turn of events and signals that the boys have finally turned savage. Evidently, no matter how polished
and civilized the boys may seem, at the end of the day when the boys are stripped to their cores, their
crueler nature shows.
Jack and Ralph work together, at least at the start, to keep everyone fed and happy. They create rules
to keep law and order, and have a conch that they blow to assemble everyone. At the very beginning,
the boys vote for a chief to lead the tribe. Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things...with
dreary obedience the choir raised their hands...every hand outside the choir except Piggy s was raised
(22 23). Showing how the boys want a leader who does things, they pick a leader that s rather
charismatic and represents, at least to the little uns, the government.
Time passes, and cracks begin to show in the tribe. Law and order is starting to break down. Jack and

final step towards the yawning abyss that is human nature. The savages have finally, intentionally,
killed a person. They ve completely and utterly surrendered themselves to the dark side of human
nature, and let go of the light. Piggy fell forty feet...His head came open and stuff came out and turned

of his time. In 1947, Jomo Kenyatta was elected the leader of the Kenya African Union or KAU, a pro
independence rebel group. For the next three years, Jomo Kenyatta toured Kenya, campaigning for
independence. In 1951, The Mau Mau Rebellion, a conflict between the Mau Mau protesters and the
British Military began. In response, the British declared a state of emergency and banned the KAU.
Jomo Kenyatta was arrested in October of the following year with charges of leading and being a
member of the KAU and was imprisoned for nine years. Kenyatta was released from prison in 1959
and immediately began protesting and educating the people again. Kenyatta soon became a part of the
Kenyan Legislative Council where he was elected to be the leader of the pro independence KAU. On
the Twelfth of December 1963, Kenyan independence was declared and Jomo Kenyatta was declared
Prime Minister. The following June, the Constitution was signed and Kenya was declared a republic

If a person would go to the Hinkelfest who is not from the area, would just see it as just another
carnival with rides, food, music, and games, but for locals, the Hinkelfest means something more to
them. Tricia Hartman said, I go to the Hinkelfest every year because it represents something special
about the town we live in. Fredericksburg is known for producing chicken, so when we attend the
Hinkelfest, we learn about chickens and how they are raised in mass quantities. The Hinkelfest has a
special area set up to view the different stages of the life of a chicken. Anyone can see a chicken still

The Pros And Cons Of The FDA
For producers of food animals in the United States this year is not going to be the same as any other
year in the past. Why, you may ask? The Food and Drug Administration created stricter guidelines to
the Veterinary Feed Directive. For example, any beef producer has used or heard of MGA in their
lifetime. Many producers just order MGA, mix it with the feed and feed it. MGA is used to
synchronize heifers or to prevent heifers from coming into heat in the feedlot so they don t waste
energy while in heat. Producers are now going to have to take extra steps to get the antibiotics they
need for their heard. This is going to affect almost all producers of food animals, large and small. The
FDA is going to have to teach and inform producers about how what and why this is put into effect.
FDA and researchers are going to have to explain to and keep producers up to date with information
like the following.
What is the FDA and what does it do you may ask? The FDA stands for Food and Drug
Administration. They are responsible for protecting the public s health, and ensure the safety and
security of human and veterinary dugs. They also regulate the making, selling and distribution of
products. The FDA regulates many things including foods, like additives and supplements, drugs, both

There is a continuing concern in the United States is bacterial resistance to antibiotics. The
government continues to research and analyze the use of antibiotics in animals and humans. It is not a
fact that the use of antibiotics in animals cause resistance in humans. Antibiotics are a necessity in the
production of food animals therefore if they completely band antibiotics it would put animal welfare
and food safety at a large risk. By implementing the VFD the government can assure people that

Inequality In Plato s Phaedo
Reconstruction
Importantly, one needs to recall that Plato holds the human is a union of two distinct entities body and
soul he considers death to be their separation. In Phaedo, he expressly uses our notion of equality to
illustrate the way in which humans recollect knowledge (as Socrates recollection theory of knowledge
holds). His his argument from recollection posits that the soul immortal.
When we (humans) perceive sensible things that are equal in the world, we see these as deficient in
their equality. (74d 74e)
Equal things (which we perceive) and Equality itself are not the same. (74b 74c)
When we see the deficiency in perceived equality, it prompts us to recollect Equality itself. (74c 74d)
Knowledge of Equality itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says these perceptions are deficient, as sensible things suffer from the compresence of opposites
being both F and not F (e.g., equal and unequal) in different respects, or compared to different things.
Plato refers to a stick as an example of a sensible thing. For premise 1, imagine we have three sticks,
the first two are the same length and the third is shorter in length. So, we can say the first two are
equal to one another (in length) and both are not equal to the third stick. Therefore, sticks cannot be
equal full stop, but are equal to one stick and unequal to the other stick. This is the case for all things,
they are both F and not F when compared to different things or objects. Just as Helen of Troy will be
more beautiful compared to some women and less beautiful compared to other women. So, this
deficiency shows there is a distinction between F and F ness, (e.g., equal sticks and Equality itself). In
essence, our perceived knowledge of equal things and objects are distinct from Equality itself, in
premise 2. He says, We say that there is something that is equal. I do not mean a stick equal to a stick
or stone equal to a stone...but something else beyond all of these, the Equal itself.

Join Or Die Summary
In the photo titled Join, or Die , each of the eight cut pieces of the snake are labeled with
abbreviations. By looking at the various abbreviations and knowing what each one stands for, one can
conclude that each of the segments of the snake symbolize the early American colonies. The snake is
separated in pieces to show that the colonies were not yet unified. The phrase Join or die is stating that
the colonies need to unite in order to be strong during the French and Indian war. When each piece of
the snake, or colonies, is cut off, the snake cannot survive. When the pieces are put together, the snake,

who created the photo made a difference and influenced the colonies to unify. During the time period
in which this photo was created, the mid 1700s, the most influential people in America were usually, if

  • 2. Langston Hughes And The Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance was a social and cultural movement aimed to alter the conventional notion of The Negro and to expound on African American s adversities through literature, music, and visual arts. After World War I, Harlem, New York became a central location for African Americans for greener pastures and racial equality. Large quantities of black writers, artists, and intellectuals emerged within the urban scene and played a pivotal role of defining the movement in their respective fields. As a result, Harlem became a creative mecca and established a birthplace of black pride in the United States. Langston Hughes, a prominent poet during the 1920s, helped pave a road for literary innovation. Langston possessed an ability to portray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1921, Langston Hughes enrolled at Columbia University and studied the field of engineering. It was a short lived educational process, however Hughes affiliated himself with the prospering cultural movement within the vicinity of Harlem, New York. In the early 1920s, he commenced on traveling in foreign countries and continued to publish his poetries. The public exposure of his writing composition increased by connections of American poet Vachel Lindsey and novelist Carl Van Vechten. In 1925, Hughes s poem The Weary Blues won the first prize in the Opportunity magazine literary competition which earned him a scholarship to Lincoln University. The essence of poetry is its versatility of evoking images and feelings. The Weary Blues appealed to a broad spectrum of audience for his distinct style of integrating jazz rhythm and dialect in order to delineate urban blacks. Racial segregation was prolonged for many generations. Due to Hughes s mixed status as Caucasian and African American, he was unable to immerse himself within the two contradicting ethnic groups. Hughes expressed his perplexity through his work called Cross. The poem also addressed the difference of faith between two different racial groups. Case in point, the poem states, My old man died in a fine big house. My ma died in a shack. Both coexist in the same society, but their death symbolizes the dissimilar treatment. Although Hughes was criticized by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The General Theory Of Crime Essay Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime (1990) essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the ... • 4. Pope John Paul II s Eugene Letter Fr. Joseph Byerley used scripture, St. Pope John Paul II s Apostolic letter on the meaning of human suffering and practical examples to answer the age old question of why God allows good people to suffer. I will attempt to give a summary of his talk here, but will preface that this is just a summary and does not do justice to the clarity, depth and beauty of his talk. He started by defining the word Redemption, which means to buy back or ransom. Human suffering, when united with Christ s, can remit punishment due to sin. This is not connected to forgiveness. Divine justice requires that the original goodness which existed prior to the offense must be restored. We may be forgiven of our sins, but there is still damage which must be repaired. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a real and true participation in the loving sacrifice of Christ that earned our redemption. We participate in that. John Paul II said, Thus to share in the sufferings of Christ is at the same time to suffer for the Kingdom of God. In the eyes of the just God, before his judgement, those who share in the suffering of Christ become worthy of His kingdom....Christ has led us into His kingdom through His suffering, and also through suffering, those surrounded by the mystery of Christ s redemption, become mature enough to enter into His kingdom. It s not that redemption is not complete. We know that redemption is complete, but we say that redemption is also continually open to all love that is expressed through human suffering. Suffering can be offered up for others as an act of love. But as St. Catherine of Siena said, we must not go out looking for suffering, as in and of itself, it is not good. Enough is sent our way, without searching it out. Only when it is consumed in love, can it be converted to good. So as we offer up our suffering, remember what St. Augustine said, A general derives no joy from vanquishing a weak ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Baroque Vs Renaissance Music Every culture and civilization has been impacted in one way or another by music. Music is a universal phenomenon that continues to grow and develop still to this day. There are millions of people who connect to music in some way. Some individuals simply enjoy listening to music, others enjoy playing it, and there are some people who look deep into the trends, history, and evolution of music. In this paper, I chose to do a comparison on the renaissance and baroque period; to analyze the differences between the renaissance and baroque musically and socially. Both time periods impacted the development of music and social tendencies in a crucial way. The Renaissance was a period in history from the 14th to the 17th century. The term Renaissance Music refers to the music composed and written during the Renaissance era. These compositions were a huge impact on music following this time period. The Renaissance era of music began in 1440 C AD and lasted until 1600 C AD. Through this period rhythms were buoyant, and medieval counterpoints were further developed by renaissance composers to create fugues. A fugue is a contrapuntal composition in which a short melody or phrase is introduced by one part and successively taken up by others and developed by interweaving the parts. Fugues are a very popular technique still to this day, and were used more and more through the Baroque period. The new counterpoint that was introduced based on preference for consonance, including thirds and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the growth of the public texting and driving, the Public Service Announcements (PSA) have been put in place to help persuade the public to stop. Along with the creation of PSA s, the creation of doubt that PSA actually work s has also come up. Though the result s of PSA and it s effectiveness are little. Compared to other law s that have been placed and other methods being used, it s proving to be the most effective. These PSA s if used correctly can be very powerful in it s own way. Using Pathos as it s main persuasive strategy rather then Logo s, inviting families of victim s who chose to text and drive. It can have an affect by showing the reality of it all. • 7. Essay On The Dark Sword The dim moonlight shone through the windows, giving life to the dancing shadows on the cold stone floors. A small, lithe figure clad in head to toe black, and armed to the teeth strode upon them. The only sound she made was the faint scuffle of her boots on the frigid flagstone floor. She moved with a purpose, striding down the halls in the shadows, watching for any approaching figures that might alert the sleeping castle to her presence. She slowly rounded the corner, still shrouded in the shadows, ever vigilant for possible guards or servants passing through the drafty castle halls. The sleeping monarch inside the now unguarded chamber had absolutely no idea of their impending demise. Once the assassin was in the room, she barricaded the door with a heavy wooden chest of drawers and several chairs. She advanced towards the bed, careful not to wake the sleeping queen, absentmindedly fiddling with her daggers, trying to decide which one to use on the queen. At the sight of the woman lying on the bed, her fiery hair flowing all over the pillow, her hand went to the dark jade stone at her throat. Done with her moment of remembrance, her scarred hand jerked out and seized the queen s pale, unmarred throat, pulling her from her slumber, and the assassin dragged her towards the balcony, while the queen thrashed and clawed at the hands holding her throat in an iron grip. The assailant released her prey by throwing her to the ground, the queen rolling for several feet before hitting the stone railing on the balcony, instantly soaked by the pouring rain. As she stepped into the howling wind and beating rain, lightning flashed and the queen saw her face, the face of someone who should have been long dead. You... you should be dead...How? the shocked queen stammered. You know, Amira, when you try to have your friends killed, you should really be more thorough. the smirking assassin replied. • 8. The Importance Of Effective To Police Use Of Force Law enforcement agencies have policies regarding use of force that need reform. There is concern for the balance of ethical decision making by police officers. There is also an equal concern for the rights and value of life of civilians along with those of officers. Maintaining stress free standards for employed law enforcement is detrimental to police use of force directives. Police organizations can prevent and correct their citizen interaction without the use of excessive force. It is imperative that a process be found that could identify potential issues prior to use of force events occurring. Measures can be taken early by police agencies to avoid officers initiating criminal misconduct. Police training and development of communication techniques will provide the reform needed to subvert the idea of an excessive use of force police culture. Logic should be administered alongside reasoning prior to the use of any force, specifically deadly force. There is no reasonable explanation for excessive use of force so it should be prevented instead of authorized socially and accepted. Most of the police operations that incite negative outcomes are preventable with the implementation of appropriate training. In the article by Gross (2017) he discusses several accounts of the excessive use of force by police in America. Some of these accounts have changed some laws, i.e. The Supreme Court case of Graham v. Connor (1989). The facts of the case were that a diabetic man named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Reflective Essay On Group Diversity Through my work in groups, I have had to adjust my feedback and leadership styles based on the different cultures of my group members. Every organization has its own unique spoken and unspoken rules that define the culture. Culture is often simply stated as, the way we work around here. Cultures are formed and change through a variety of environmental events, leadership, and experiences (Weiss, Tilin, Morgan, 2014, p. 153). I need more here maybe? When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others. My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences. By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al., 2014, p. 141). So far my experiences in providing and receiving feedback within my group have been mostly positive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises Causes and Policies in Financial Crises Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy (Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups: Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth and inflation. The last major financial crises demonstrate that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It focuses on describing the disillusion, exploring the reasons and making a short summary. Middlemarch represents a frustrating scene through these four story lines. Each person s disillusion is caused by both social reasons and personal reasons. • 12. Give Me Liberty By Eric Foner Summary In this excerpt from Eric Foner s Give Me Liberty!, he discusses the significance of religion in the lives of Native Americans, as well as the social relations of Native Americans and the freedom and liberty they attempted to acquire. As mentioned in the previous discussion, certain tribes in North America were diverse. Although, they shared a common ideal and that was religion. Despite what most of us may think, their religion was not quite different to those of Europeans. Moreover, owning property was also something Native Americans believe as being a common resource, not an economic commodity, whereas in the United States, the only people that owned land and property were white males. Like every society, social status played a major role in determining one s reputation. For instance, kindness and trade were valued tremendously. In addition, the Native Americans valued attributes like generosity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women s lives were different compared to other countries because women were open to do such tasks, premarital sex, marriage, and divorce. Men, on the other hand, contributed in communities by hunting and played a sort of role model of what a successful leader is like. Society wasn t really a patriarch yet because women contributed in religious ceremonies as tribal leaders. Because of these different ideals and beliefs, the Europeans perceived the Native Americans as noble savages, as opposed to their first encounter describing them as beautiful of stature and build. However, as time went on, so did the Europeans desire for conquest, which resulted in the conquering of their lands. The Native Americans were then forced to do labor and like many endured throughout history, they were mistreated. The arrival of the Europeans started the promotion of a patriarchal society, having women do housework and men taking authority ultimately taking some freedom away from the Native ... I also have an aim and plan which I want to execute in the best way possible. The first and most crucial thing that holds immense importance in fulfilling your dream is the college one chooses to go to. I chose Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) for many reasons, Starting off by mentioning the wide variety of business and marketing programs they provide. Moreover, the community of the college is known to be one of the best in New York, with a beautiful campus and especially for me, the commute is a great steal. While applying to colleges, FIT caught my attention the most. This was the only college, whom I see myself graduating from in four years with my dream of a bachelor degree in marketing. The reason why I chose marketing is that I have always been a social person who loves talking and most importantly I am an extremely organized person who knows how to perform her tasks very well. So that is why I see myself working as a marketing manager for big companies like Google and Apple. While thousands of students will be applying to FIT, the question is What makes me the perfect candidate for FIT and what makes me stand out? Well, unlike most students that mainly only are concerned about their GPA and spend all their high school years in studying, I just did not study but also took all advantages of my school clubs and community service opportunities. Also the use of scrap materials has lessened the purchase of ore for steel making. Furthermore, joint ventures have given them option to join global market of steel producers. However, Nucor should be also wary on possible entrants that could offer low cost steel which might be a reason for a loss of customers which in turn loose potential income and worst cut jobs. In today s society if people watch television programs such as Chingy featuring Snoop Ludacris Holidae; Charlie s Angels; the Z100 commercial with Britney Spears; or Baywatch they will see that the feminine image is presented differently than the masculine. In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations fully clothed, while women are presented in provocative clothing or less. In 1998, $1billion was spent online on adult content, 69 percent of the total Internet content sales. In most commercial advertisements on television, women show more skin than men. Commercials use women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For instance, Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial for Z100, the number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in modes such as pop, rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige outfit consisting of a tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After talking for a moment, she starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually drawn to the shape of her body. As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a marketing tool to attract men and increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its commercial. Instead the company s executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass figure because men prefer to look at young, shapely, nubile women. Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their bodies exposed in an effort to increase ratings. The first American artillery round in World War I was on October 23, 1917. This demonstrates the start of the use of artillery from the American perspective. Trench warfare seemed to have settled down; General John J. Pershing insisted that American troops were to be trained in open warfare. By the time American troops began to appear on the battlefield in significant numbers, the general did this in order for the American troops to have skills in open warfare allowing for artillery to be moved closer in order to attack the infantry thus the war had become more mobile. In 1918, American troops joined in at Chateau Thierry to halt General Erich Ludendorff s offensive. Counterattacking under a heavy artillery barrage, they cleared the Germans in 2 weeks. This demonstrates the power artillery had during the war not only on the side of the Allies but also on the German side as well. On July 4, allied artillery laid down a devastating barrage for an hour before the enemy s guns attacked. The enemy fell back and a massive Allied attack was launched. Pest Analysis Management board decisions International performance Resources and capabilities The two main independent variables that have to be included in the conceptual model are the management board and the resources and capabilities of the company. It has been discussed in the literature that two of the four factors that influence the performance of businesses in their internationalization process are the management level and the control of resource capacity (Zeng, Tam, Wan, 2009). A distinction between resources and capabilities must be made: resources are the productive assets of the firm, while the capabilities are what the firm can do. It is the management board that decides upon the acquisition, development, usage and control of resources and the development of capabilities. Managers will select a set of resources from those available to the firm that they believe are responsible for achieving their vision of the business, which will result in the desired sustained competitive advantage of the company (Kunc, Morecroft, 2010). Furthermore, the board will have to decide on other matters as well, which can alter the international performance of the company, whether it be positive or negative. Alexie and Barry s lives were very different apart from each other, but the same effect can be made. Instead of focusing on her life growing up, it is about her life now and how she is handling it. This can really compare and contrast the way children handle their lives versus adult s handling their lives. Of course adults make the tougher and harder decisions in life, and everything they do can hugely impact them. But children start the base of their own lives before they become adults, and this ultimately shapes them. No one can be an adult without first being a child. This is very obvious, but not in a certain way. Before growing up and being responsible, children have to make dumb and stupid decisions. Alexie barely wrote about this and Barry definitely did not. • 27. The Pros And Cons Of The FDA For producers of food animals in the United States this year is not going to be the same as any other year in the past. Why, you may ask? The Food and Drug Administration created stricter guidelines to the Veterinary Feed Directive. For example, any beef producer has used or heard of MGA in their lifetime. Many producers just order MGA, mix it with the feed and feed it. MGA is used to synchronize heifers or to prevent heifers from coming into heat in the feedlot so they don t waste energy while in heat. Producers are now going to have to take extra steps to get the antibiotics they need for their heard. This is going to affect almost all producers of food animals, large and small. The FDA is going to have to teach and inform producers about how what and why this is put into effect. FDA and researchers are going to have to explain to and keep producers up to date with information like the following. What is the FDA and what does it do you may ask? His his argument from recollection posits that the soul immortal. When we (humans) perceive sensible things that are equal in the world, we see these as deficient in their equality. (74d 74e) Equal things (which we perceive) and Equality itself are not the same. (74b 74c) When we see the deficiency in perceived equality, it prompts us to recollect Equality itself. He says these perceptions are deficient, as sensible things suffer from the compresence of opposites being both F and not F (e.g., equal and unequal) in different respects, or compared to different things. Plato refers to a stick as an example of a sensible thing. For premise 1, imagine we have three sticks, the first two are the same length and the third is shorter in length. So, we can say the first two are equal to one another (in length) and both are not equal to the third stick. Therefore, sticks cannot be equal full stop, but are equal to one stick and unequal to the other stick. This is the case for all things, they are both F and not F when compared to different things or objects. Just as Helen of Troy will be more beautiful compared to some women and less beautiful compared to other women. So, this deficiency shows there is a distinction between F and F ness, (e.g., equal sticks and Equality itself). In essence, our perceived knowledge of equal things and objects are distinct from Equality itself, in premise 2. He says, We say that there is something that is equal.
