Buencamino V. Noftsinger Case Study
In Arizona, the decision of the court regarding relocation of a minor child often requires the
application of Arizona Revised Statute 25 408 (I). The application of this statute depends upon two
factors being in place: a written agreement or court order regarding custody of the minor child, and
both parents currently residing in the state of Arizona. In Buencamino v. Noftsinger, the Arizona Court
of Appeals turned to the law to evaluate the trial court s ruling. A Brief History of the Case:
Buencamino v. Noftsinger: The Father (Appellant) and Mother (Appellee) had a child together in
2004. The parents were never married. The child lived at times with each of the parents separately, and
at other times with both parents together in the same

Leslie twiggy Hornby Essay
quot;At 17 Leslie Hornby took hold of the world. At 21 she let it go, she was the original waif, a 60 s
phenomenon a superstar. She was Twiggy quot; (Vogue). Leslie Hornby was the revolutionary woman
who changed the idea of beauty in the eyes of the fashion industry and the entire world.
Twiggy exemplified the androgynous mod look that swept America as it had Britain and much of
Europe in the 1960 s. She healthily maintained a 5 ft 6 1/2 inch 90 lb body. Based on her thin figure, a
nickname of quot;Twiggy quot; was derived. Twiggy s popularity not only produced many people who
tried to look like her but also drastically increased the hourly wages of models.
She paved the way for current top models like Kate Moss, Elle MacPherson, ... Show more content on

Twiggy s success soared when she made her first visit to America. On March 20,1967 the second she
stepped off the plane she was swarmed by fans, and was candy to the media s eyes. She was like a
fever that spread.
Everyone wanted a piece of her. Her pictures were everywhere. Twiggy s popularity allowed her to
charge revolutionary high prices an hour. She charged as much as $240 an hour opposed to a 50 s top
model like Suzy Parker who only received about $40 an hour (Century of Models). Once again
Twiggy set the standard for 90 s top models to earn outrageous sums of money. For example, the 90 s
Twiggy (Kate Moss) earns about 26.3 million dollars a year.
One reason for Twiggy s great success was that the public had never seen anyone like her. She had a
completely new look that took the entire world by surprise. During the 40 s, long limbed, and
sophisticated was the trend. In the 50 s, a more curvaceous womanly look (Marilyn Monroe) was in.
Twiggy set the 60 s waiflike standard. What a leap from Marilyn to Twiggy. They were almost
completely opposite. Twiggy s influence is still seen on today s runways and television.
The current day Twiggy is Kate Moss. Her figure is strikingly similar (Twiggy 31 22 32, Moss 33 22
35) (Century of Models). Remarkably, Twiggy s favorite thing to eat was ice cream, bananas and hot
fudge, she doesn t drink or smoke but quot;eats like a horse quot; (Time). Twiggy is

Beloved Essay
Oftentimes, one can get too caught up in familial matters or personal issues, and as a result, something
as simple as providing another with love and value can be long forgotten. Both novels take place in
Ohio during late 1980 s to the early 1930 s. In Beloved, the protagonist Sethe continuously mentions
how she wishes her mother would have put more effort into their relationship.. Most days, Sethe
would only see her mother for one or two hours. Her mother was always busy working in the hot and
musty rice field. Sethe felt like her mother never really loved her and did not care much for her well
being either. Sethe expresses her sadness: Sunday s she slept like a stick. She must of nursed me two
or three weeks that s the way the others did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quote shows that Sethe never had the opportunity to feel her mother s compassion or affection,
more commonly known as a mother s love . This love is often personified in a mother who will lay
down her life for her child. It is known as a selfless sacrifice. Sethe s mother was always working and
never had time to spend with her, let alone time to nurse her. One could say Sethe s relationship with
her mother was non existent, Sethe constantly reminds herself how she felt abandoned when she was
younger. She had to be nursed by Nan, a women who s job was to breastfeed children of the whites as
well as other fellow slaves. Nan had to nurse white babies and me too because Ma am was in the rice.
The little white babies got it first and I got what was left. Or none. There was no nursing milk to call
my own (Morrison, Beloved, 200). Put differently, Sethe did not have the opportunity to create a
special mother daughter bond that most mothers create with their child, to ensure the child s protection
and enrich their development. Therefore she was not given a shot to be a real daughter to anyone, she
had no support or love from the only family she had, which was her

The Raising of the Age You Can Get Your Driver s License...
Should the age to receive a driver s license be raised and, if not, should graduated licensing be
instituted? This is a growing question across America as well as other countries around our globe. The
percentage of teenage accidents involving automobiles is on a constant rise. Whether caused by the
lack of experience or under the influence of alcohol, death has become all too common among teen
motorists. This problem is not going to go away by itself; action needs to be taken. The state must
raise the age requirement to receive a license or institute graduated licensing because teens are not
mature enough to handle the dangerous responsibilities of driving.
We allow teens to get their licenses at an earlier age than in most countries, ... Show more content on

Any way you look at it, 16 year old drivers represent a growing problem, adds Allen Williams, senior
vice president of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (CNN). Accidents that involve 16 year old
drivers are not like those involving older drivers. For one thing, 16 year old get in trouble trying to
handle unusual driving situations, even small emergencies. More often than when older people drive,
such situation turn into disasters. Eighty two percent of all 16 year old drivers in fatal crashes during
1996 made at least one driving error that contributed to the crash. This compares with 68 percent of
drivers 17 19 years old and 52 percent of drivers 25 49 years old (CNN).
Training and educating programs can help teens learn driving skills, but these programs do not
produce safer drivers. The only thing that s taught in driver education is how to drive legally and not
responsibly. It s often not poor skills that cause the crashes in the first place. Its teenagers attitudes. A
vast majority of teens are thrill seekers, thinking they are bullet proof and invincible. Thus the
potential for death and destruction is great (Grant14). Teens naturally tend to rebel against adult
standards and regulations. Peer pressure influences teenagers much more than advice given by an
adult. Today s teachers have either forgotten or they ignore the fact that 16 year old drivers show off
as soon as they get in the car with their

Toquepala Cave Paintings
This archeological study will define the symbolism of tribal hunter society in the mural paintings of
the Toquepala Caves. These paintings depict the methods of hunting that early human beings utilized
to trap animals as a food source. The prehistoric elements of the paintings define the use of wool
brushes and red ochre paints, which define one of the earliest cave painting depictions of hunting rites.
The Collawa tribal group created these paintings as part of a celebration of the hunting traditions that
sustained the tribe. The method of corralling and controlling a herds of guanaco that provided an

These cave paintings define some of the earliest human paintings that have been preserved showing
the hunting behaviors of early human beings. These methods of hunting involve the collective
entrapment of the animals through the chaco method of hunting, which is still practiced in modern day
indigenous communities in Southern Peru. The use of red colorations for animals and the depiction of
hunters partaking in these scenes reveal the intensive detail that the artist presents. The weapons and
other tools, such as fencing, in these paintings define the exact nature of hunting methods that created
a sustainable food source and way of life for the Collawa peoples during these ancient times. The
Toquepala Cave paintings provide archeologists with some of the detailed observational methods of
the artist, which provide extremely insightful awareness of hunting culture in the prehistoric world.

Effects Of The Reformation In The 16th And 17th Century
I believe the single biggest pressure that caused the most issues for England in the 16th and 17th
century relate to the Reformation. The Reformation effected everyone in the country as they were
forced into a new religion headed by the King. It drastically changed people s lives and it s no wonder
why the change wasn t fully accepted for a long time. Rapid population increase caused a significant
strain on the country as they needed to develop new ways to feed everyone. The abolishment of
common lands in favor of enclosure agriculture strained the poorest people in the country. All of these
created mass amounts of tension and stress within a society transitioning into an economic power. In
1534, the English Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy effectively placing Henry the 8th as the
head of the English Church. His royal prerogative was extended to deciding the religion in which the
country would follow. The need of a male heir played a significant role in this decision, along with the
opinions of many throughout the Christian world that Catholic Church was corrupt beyond repair. The
event left the English citizens in a state of disbelief and resentment as their whole lives seemed to be
turned upside down. There would be a number of consequences resulting from the Reformation. For
starters the government began dissolving the monasteries which provided a number of services to their
communities around them, such as education and several acted as hospitals. The King attempted to
compensate for these lost services by establishing public services to his citizens with the money he
was gaining from the land he acquired from the monasteries. Unfortunately the money was poorly
spend and did not adequately replace the services of the monasteries. Adding on to this a large chunk
of the population refused to follow the newly created church. Several clergymen who didn t recognize
Henry as the new head of the church were executed for not swearing loyalty to him. Furthermore
thousands of people would rise up through the years in rebellion against the state for the reason of
religion. The Pilgrimage of Grace for example rose to 40,000 people demanding the Supremacy Act
be reversed as well as punishing the officials

The Four Frames
To be considered an effective leader, it is known to utilize multiple frames. The four frames: Structural
Leadership, Human Resource Leadership, Political Leadership, and Symbolic Leadership. Each of
these leadership consist of different characteristics, principles, and standards which are practiced to
gain efficient leaders. Rosabeth Moss Kanter, a business professor at Harvard Business School has
expressed how these four frames are effective by examples during her interview.
Structural Leadership involves the leader possessing characteristics, such as, focusing on
implementation, can be powerful and stable, and emphasizes on shared goals. Kanter, concentrates on
strategy, innovation, and leadership for change (57). In addition, she shared her ideas with other
companies of how to implement change to their culture and structure (58). Through these changes,
these organizations would be able to execute the conventional ideas and move from unconventional
ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kanter demonstrated these qualities during her interview. For example, she has high interest in
practicing participative management. Her example of implementing was to participate more while
empowering the people for high productivity (58). Her view of empowerment was to widen the
peoples knowledge base and motivate them to do things they thought they were incapable of
accomplishing. Human Resource Leadership tend to their subordinates and would like to maintain that
relationship. Furthermore, the would like to be known as being accessible to their employees. Kanter s
perspective on this principle was to obtain the peoples inputs to maintain that relationship, by allowing

Deception Of Women In Richard III
A main aspect of Richard s, Duke of Gloucester, personality is his hatred of women, possibly due to
most woman within Richard III holding more knowledge than the men, in regards to Richard s
deceiving nature. The only woman who is outsmarted by Richard is Lady Anne.
Deception, as well as their relationship, is crucial to the overall plot. The character of Lady Anne has
crucial dramatic functions within the play because her character supports Richard s growing reputation
of manipulating and morally wrong motives. When she is seduced by Richard, it shows his success at
manipulation, which eventually does fail in the later acts of the play. After successfully slaying Lady
Anne s husband, King Henry, Richard is still able to gain her hand in marriage using persuasive
language. Through this act, Lady Anne becomes a blocking figure for Richard because he has to
conquer her, but he also has a pre existing disadvantage regarding the situation: Lady Anne is aware
that Richard just killed her husband. Whenever they interact with each other, the use of formal
language is present. Due to this, it has the capability to thoroughly show the tension between them, as
well as Lady Anne s attitude towards him. She tells him Thou mayst be damned for that wicked deed!
(1.2. 102) and then continues by telling Richard that And thou unfit for any place but hell, (1.2. 106)
which isn t only insulting but also portrays him as a supernatural creature for the audience to picture,

Figurative Language Versus Literal Language
The English language is known as being one of the most difficult languages to learn. There are many
reasons for this, a major factor being the use of figurative language. Since the English language is
packed with figures of speech is can be very confusing to truly comprehend what someone is trying to
get across. This doesn t just go for the new comers to the English language but also to native English
speakers. Throughout this paper I will define and give examples for ten different types of figurative
language while providing appropriate usage. These types of figurative language include idiom,
analogy, metaphor, simile, cliché, amphiboly, fame word, hyperbole, euphemism, and lastly
colloquialism.
Idiom
Idioms are words or phrases that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This figure of speech is an expression of how if you re in a bad situation, make the best of it like
lemons into lemonade. Since clichés are used so frequently they lose their effectiveness. It is as the
clichés go in one ear and right out the other because we are used to hearing them too often.
Amphiboly
Amphiboly is a misleading notion on someone s original words structured to confuse or mislead and
audience ( Dictionary.com, 2012). Many candidates during elections use this figurative language in
order to misrepresent their competitor resulting in more votes for them. For example Sarah says I
believe that lowers taxes. It s the best thing to do for our economy right now . If Tom was talking
about raises taxes he could still state that Sarah said It s the best thing to do for our economy right now
. In actuality Sarah wants to lower the taxes, Tom uses Amphibology in order to mislead others about
her actually meaning behind her words. Amphiboly can be extremely confusing especially if you don t
know what the person originally said. It is very easy to be gullible in this situation. It is best to always
do research and check each statement someone said to be sure of their meaning behind their words.
Flame word
Flame words are emotional words that are able get under someone s skin in a negative way. These
words will trigger a reaction from people. For example, calling someone fat instead of calling them
obese. Fat is considered a flame word

Oliver thought that they should alert Charlemagne that way they could easily win the conflict with the

Roland disagreed with this view. Roland thought that it would have been dishonorable to call for help.
Roland said if he called for help his family would be criticized. Roland said the rearguard and his

Roland to sound the horn so that Charlemagne and the primary army would come back and that the
battle would be won with ease. Roland said it would be foolish to sound the horn. He said that if he
sounded the horn he would lose respect in France. Roland said that the Franks were far superior
fighters compared to the Muslims and that their 20,000 troops would be victorious. Oliver continued
to ask Roland to sound the horn for aid. Roland said he would not blow the trumpet because it would
be a disgrace to God and the French. Roland said the French would win because they were superior
fighters and they would not need back up. Oliver asked again, but Roland said it would be a disgrace
to ask for aid in killing weak Muslims. Roland said he would not dishonor his country. Roland said
that even thought the Muslims outnumbered the rearguard 5 to 1, the rearguard would win. Oliver
continued to point out that the odds were against them. Roland said he would not sound the trumpet
because it would dishonor himself and God. After departing for battle Oliver said they would die

drinkers and more specifically, twenty two percent of all students under the age of twenty one are
binge drinkers. There are many beliefs on what is to blame for the irresponsible drinking habits of
these teenagers. One popular belief is that because they re not drinking with other adults or
experienced drinkers they are not being guided into the proper direction to being responsible drinkers.
However, the main reason is the lack of education on the topic. D.A.R.E. ® is a program executed
through local Police Stations that does a Drug Abuse Resistance Education program for a large array

and the harms of drugs and alcohol and they teach students in the elementary, middle, and high

Persuasive Essay On Gender Neutral Rooming
As Gloria Steinem once said, A gender equal society would be one where the word gender does not
exist: where everyone can be themselves . Recently, Lehigh has been implemented something new to
better embrace the meaning of gender inclusion. The newest residence hall building, Farrington
Square Apartment, is now available for all gender rooming, which means girls and boys can live
together in one room. Residence Life, Residential Service, and the Pride Center believe, This is an
active effort to align Lehigh s living options with the Principles of Our Equitable Community . Even
though to some extent, it is hard for people, who traditionally lived in dormitories divided into male
and female, to become accustomed to the gender inclusive rooming, this decision is a huge progress
Lehigh made in giving students a sense of belonging and allowing them to experience more diverse
living styles. It stands to reason that gender neutral rooming is definitely beneficial to give students a
sense of inclusion, especially for transgender and gender non conforming students. Ashley Lemmons,
the director of Residence Life, wrote in an email that : Students at Lehigh should feel a sense of
belonging to Lehigh and should also find micro community within Lehigh where they feel at home.
Providing students with all gender housing options enables them to feel Lehigh cares about their
feelings and emotions indeed. It is a well established fact that if you feel unsure about yourself to be a

George Santayana And Transcendentalism
George Santayana was an influential 20th century American thinker. He was born is Spain in 1836 and
arrived with his family to the United States when a child. Santayana spent a substantial amount of his
time working at Harvard teaching in the department of philosophy. Santayana is often portrayed as a
realist, a materialist, and a naturalist. These entitlements accompany Santayana well with is his mature
philosophy. He was skeptical about religious matters and believed that the pervasiveness of religious
beliefs and faiths are of value of understanding but not accepting or practicing. Being a naturalist or

Either we share Emerson s intuition or we do not. Either we see the beauty of the whole or we do not.
And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the
logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may
emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in
regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson
thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural,
in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is
something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or
epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of
the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were
beginnings to a presented belief. In order to categorize one as such, Santayana describes the mind to
be distressed, and have other radical subjective criticism of knowledge. When these two ideas
disappeared, systems ceased to be sensibly understood. They became only sacred mysteries. Therefore

Robert Nozick s Experience Machine
In this essay, following a brief discussion on Nozick s Experience Machine , I argue that his
assumption that nobody would plug into the experience machine is a false one due to his failure to
fully explore what creates a pleasurable experience. I will then further discuss this idea of pleasure,
suggesting that it is possible that the experience machine could potentially offer an experience that
people would be more inclined to participate in and that more fully imitates reality. However, I will
counter this with the Nozick s affirmation that people desire to connect with reality and mimicry of
reality does not allow a part in the course of our universe.
Robert Nozick suggests in his thought experiment regarding the experience machine that ... Show

unpleasant means. Nozick seems to offer through his examples that his machine may possibly
simulate these things, as long as the experience is ultimately a pleasurable one, and I suspect that this
means the result is an elevated feeling of joy. If we offer this deeper, more complicated view on
pleasure and fulfilment and state that the experience machine could still offer this to us, it seems
possible that people would be inclined to disagree with Nozick s idea that nobody would plug into the

How Does Gray Matter Effects Schizophrenia And Bipolar...
Gray matter, an important constituent of central nervous system includes regions of the brain involved
in sensory perception that includes vision, hearing, memory, emotions, speech, executive functions
like decision making and self control. Gray matter has been a focus of clinical attention and research
as it has been consistently involved in studies to better understand brain pathology, pathophysiology
and neurobiology in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Many meta analytical reviews in structural
neuroimaging studies have persistently shown abnormalities in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Using anatomical likelihood estimation (ALE), a meta analyses of forty two studies demonstrated
extensive gray matter deficits in frontal, temporal, cingulate and insular cortex and thalamus in
schizophrenia (SZ) when compared to healthy controls. Similarly the same meta analyses of fourteen
studies showed gray matter reductions in anterior cingulate and bilateral insula in bipolar disorder
(BD) when compared to healthy controls (Ellison Wright I and Bullmore E, 2010). However the
regions of grey matter reduction were less extensive in bipolar than schizophrenia. Another recent
meta analyses conducted using revised ALE showed consistent gray matter decreases in patients (SZ,
BD) in bilateral anterior insula, dorsal anterior cingulate (dACC), dorso/ventro medial prefrontal
cortex, thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, superior temporal gyrus along with gray matter increases

Should Napoleon Be Considered A Hero Essay
Should Napoleon Bonaparte Be Considered A Hero or tarrant?
A hero is defined as a man who starts from the bottom and climbs the top to achieve greatness based
on his talent. Should Napoleon be considered as a hero? Mostly people would argue that Napoleon is a
hero as his brave nature made France one of the superior countries in the world. I believe Napoleon
was a hero, as his many accomplishments improved the French society and ultimately enlightened the
world. Not only he did better for France through his policy but he also expanded the boundaries of
France with many battles through his strategically planned military. He gave citizens of France the
pride they needed.
Being a military genius, Napoleon won many battles to expand his French territory. His strategic
military plans throughout many wars made him a hero all over the Europe. Although his army was less
than half by Austrians Napoleon s brilliant strategies resulted in a defeat of his enemy armies in the
Battle of Austerlitz. In many other battles that Napoleon won he always used his military ... Show

Ethical Effects Of Albinism
Life is not fair, get used to it, said Bill Gates (2000). Bill is actually true, especially for people who
were born with albinism in Africa. Instead of their sickness, a high number of albinos in Africa are
often tortured by people who do not comprehend about albinism. They treat albinos like just an animal
or a product which is invaluable in the black market. Newman (2016) found that albinism is one of the
genetic diseases that caused by a mutation gene. This gene is the key to create melanin that found in
the color of retinas, hair, and skin. This is why albinos have pale skin, white or blond hair and reddish
eyes. Albino s body is totally sensitivity and fragile. In an unfortunate way, many of witchdoctors in
Africa strongly believe that using parts of albino s body or their bones as an ingredient in the worship

Faith Is A Way Of Knowing
Faith plays a strong role in humanity, however, it is a very controversial subject when it is applied to
as a way of knowing. Faith, or undying trust, can be applied to many areas of life in our pursuit of
knowledge; whether it may be for religious purposes or having confidence in world leaders or family
members. Although it does not require physical evidence, faith is based on such strong beliefs that so
many trust it to be the truth. Unfortunately, as human beings, we may not always be correct in our way
of thinking. Questions concerning faith as a way of knowing arise when regarding morals or ethics, as
well as some have a different faith than others. Faith is a more modern approach to a way of knowing,
however, has played such a large part since the beginning of human existence.
While thinking of faith, religion is usually first to come to mind. And it is true, faith plays a large part
in religion. You must have faith that your way of life is the way you are meant to live. As previously
stated, faith does not require empirical evidence, however not having any evidence is justified in the
individual s life. In many religions, faith offers structure to its follower s lives, which helps guide
them into the right direction. In addition to this, who are we to tell an individual that their faith is not
properly justified, therefore, cannot be absolute truth? Religion and its practices have been carried out
for centuries; it helps individuals understand how and why we are

Letter By Marion Shepardson Summary
Marion Shepardson wrote a letter in 1949 that functions like a time capsule to what Poway looked like
back then. In it she spoke about the trees and little but pleasant breezes until November . (Mary
Shepardson 1.) She wrote about a lot of things but mostly about how how docile life was. The simple
pleasures that Shepardson got from nature is are rare to find now. Poway is no longer a quaint little
farming town, San Diego as a whole is slowly blossoming into a metropolitan area. Now more then
ever it is important to recognize the changes that are coming and prepare for the future. We have two
paths to follow at this crossroad. San Diegians can prepare for the future and protect what Shepardson
once fell in love with or we can ignore the incoming

Literature Review Of Literature On Shark Utilization,...
Literature Review
Based on the article Shark Utilization, Marketing and Trade by Stefania Vannuccini,
Food and Agriculture, the life history of sharks are characterized by slow growth rates, low
fecundity potential, relatively late sexual maturation, long life spans and so they are classified by
ecologists as strong K strategists. Furthermore, they are usually the top predator in their
communities and are therefore comparatively sparsely distributed so, they possess biological
peculiarities and an ecological role that indicates that they could by particularly sensitive to an
increase in fishing.
So this article shows that the life history itself affects their population. The slow growing,
the low potential to produce offsprings and mature late are also big ... Show more content on

For example, the assessment for the Tope Shark Galeorhinus Galeus lists is as
endangered ( South America ), vulnerable ( South Australia ), and near threatened ( New Zealand
and Southern Africa ). This species has valuable flesh, but it has particularly low biological
productivity, and comparing the situation across regions demonstrates how inadequately
managed species can be depleted.
In this IUCN, we can see the increasing percentage of some threatened species not only
in the Philippines but also in the whole world. This only means that the continuous decreasing
number of sharks are widely spreading just like a virus that we need to take action.

Random Acts Of Kindness
For the past thirty days, random acts of kindness were experimented at Galion s track and field. The
purpose of this experiment was to boost the confidence of my fellow track members, in hopes of them
to feel and perform better. The group of people I interacted with were mainly male and females aging
between 15 and 19. The females were most likely to respond verbally by saying thank you. The males
mostly gave facial expressions or did not say anything at all. After awhile, I started to notice that these
RAK s were commencing a domino effect. This domino effect is supported by Durkheim s collective
conscious concept. I also noticed that the peers began to perform better during track meets. The use of
soft skills were a key factor in this experiment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period, a habit can be added or subtracted from one s lifestyle (Cutts, 2011). I am
pleased to announce that the habit of random acts of kindness is one that I now possess. After doing
RAK s for an experiment, I began to notice that these RAK s were becoming more of a natural
routine, not something that I was purposely doing for data. With this becoming a habit, I have helped
create a positive atmosphere at Galion s track and field. For instance, on April 4, I was cheering on
Marisa as she high jumped. I told her encouraging words when she did not jump to her satisfaction.
She repeated my actions towards her by doing the same thing to other high jumpers. The people on the
track team were beginning to develop a sense of natural optimism passed around by others,
unconsciously. By performing these RAK s, I feel that I have initiated social change. Gilmore (2007),
states that there is untapped potential in even the smallest good deed and it can have a multiplier effect
strong enough to change the world (p.133). This quote of hers is true within the experiment that I have
been practicing. The small RAK s I have been doing for my fellow track members are being passed on
to others around the track and field. If these students continue to do so, we can eliminate the
negativity, thus making the world a better

Bach And Liszt Essay
Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt were both renowned for their keyboard proficiency and talent
for composing. Bach was born in Germany and influenced by the Baroque period when music was
centered on religion. Liszt was Hungarian born and influenced by the Romantic period, a time when
composers began breaking away from the traditional and expressing themselves through music.
Coming from different periods the two composers exhibited vast differences and overlapping
similarities. Johann Sebastian Bach was born to a musical family in the Duchy of Saxe Eisenach in
1685. The youngest of eight children, he received a classical education from an early age as well as
being taught the violin and music theory by his father. Bach was a devout Lutheran who composed
many sacred works for the church including masterpiece, The St. Matthew Passion (Sherrane, 2015,
para. 4). As a composer, Bach enriched established German styles through his skill in counterpoint,
harmonic and motivic organization, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms, and textures from abroad,

which was ironic. He was playing where he usually played around when the battle of Chickamauga
began to take over his homeland. He did not seem to have an understanding as to what was going on,
he was blind to his surrounding. He then came home to a burned house and begins throwing things to

The order of this film was not very typical, the audience would not have predicted the final events of

Examples Of Roswell Conspiracy
Roswell Conspiracy Conspiracy theories have always been easy to spread amongst the American
population due to common lack of trust for the American government. An example of which being the
incident of Roswell, New Mexico. On one dreadful summer night in 1947, something crashed in a
corn field in the middle of New Mexico. Little was known of what crashed that night, and it was
because of this lack of identity that caused the common population to assume the worst, an

different stories being told to the public, people started to just say that there was an incident in
Roswell that had to do with an extraterrestrial encounter and the government was covering it up. It
was not until decades later in 1994 that the military decided to come clean. According to their report,
the remains of the wreckage found on that night were not of any kind of spaceship, but instead of a

Should Community College Should Be Free
Should Community College be Free? In the article, As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama s Free
Community College Idea written by Joanne Jacobs, the author states the different arguments between
whether or not Obama s idea of making community college free is a good idea for both the institutions
and for the students planning on attending. This can then lead to colleges not getting any funding
because they won t be getting any money, tuition wise, from the students but rather the government.
Although the idea of free community college is what everyone believes is the best option, I think it
shouldn t be free because tuition for low income students is technically already free, four year
universities cost much more, and lastly because this can then lead to competition between low income
students and upper middle class students. Many Americans today believe that if you are in the lower
class, you won t be capable of attending college and will end up just working tedious jobs your whole
life with no college education. Many don t know if one falls into the category of a low income student,
they are eligible to apply to all the financial help colleges provide in order to go to college for free.
They don t need it written, by law that community college must be free. According to College Board,
tuition at community colleges averages $3,347 per year, and many students are eligible to receive
around $6,000 per year in Pell Grants provided from FAFSA or even the Dream Act. This

Pateman s Argument In The Fraternal Social Contract
Pateman main argument in The Fraternal Social contract is that the social contract is formed by men
as a way to rule over the bodies of women. She argues that during discussions and arguments of the
social contract there is a silent about the part of the story which reveals the social contract is a
fraternal pact that constitutes civil society as a patriarchal or masculine order (Pateman 1989: 33). She
goes on to say to insist that patriarchy is nothing more than paternal rule is itself a patriarchal
interpretation (Pateman 1989: 35) and discussed at a length the transition from a traditional form of
patriarchy to a modern form of patriarchy. In her article, Pateman compares and contrast the views of

themselves to share the women that once belong to their father. She goes on to say that the contract

reformulation of this patriarchal tradition. She argues that the father is dead, but the brothers

The Reform Of A Crusade For Reform
With the turn of the century came a crusade for reform. This municipal movement shifted from
America s second manifest destiny and came to be known as the progressive era. Decades prior,
Americans settled the final part of coastal America and living accommodations finally increased
nationwide. Americans turned to the political parties to legitimize every impulse and vision to improve
life. However, the developing trusts and corporations purged the parties autonomy and hindered
domestic trade growth. In doing so, the trusts and corporations established a codependence and direct
association to United States Congress. Here the trusts blocked a citizens input on Senate and House
and depraved these Americans of an advantageous government. Americans desired to restore the
government they once knew and turned to their political parties for assistance. Within these parties
came leaders garnered and pronounced with the power imparted upon them by the countrymen they
sought to serve. Of these leaders came Woodrow Wilson, the former President of Princeton University
and a man held back by his upbringing in the south. During his campaign to the White House, Wilson
primarily ran on the platform of restricting the control that businesses held on the government. Upon
induction as the 28th president of the United States Woodrow Wilson demonstrated his increasing

The ballista, or shield piercer, was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a bow

Using this relationship assumes that the force constant is constant, or that moving the arms back 2
meters gives twice the force that moving them back 1 meter would do, which is most likely not
correct, but close enough for a general assumption of the force to be made. When the force is applied,
the projectile is accelerated to the end of the ballista, at which point it released with a velocity v and
an angle q from the horizontal. The velocity can be found using the kinematic equation v2=2ax, where
a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile is accelerated upon. Since
F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2 kdx/m. After it is released, the
projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air resistance. Therefore, the range of the
ballista can be given by the equation
R=v2sin2q/g,
where g is the accleration due to gravity.

Is It Better to Be a Human Dissatisfied Than a Pig Satisfied
Oak Trees versus Acorns: Which is better?
It has been argued for centuries now, that people do not grow their full human potential, largely
because they do not participate in a reasonably sophisticated refinement . John Stuart Mill, in his book
Utilitarianism, claims that It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied [Mill JS:
1863]. This essay will show that the advantages of being a human dissatisfied are better than those of
a pig satisfied . But before this can be proven, we have to understand the metaphor that compares
humans to pigs.
Mill compares two types of people: people who prefer to be humans according to his definition, and
those that prefer to be pigs . As pigs would ‘eat up anything that ... Show more content on

Whatever kind of pleasure they prefer is the more worthy kind. Mill uses this concept to show that
knowledgeable, higher order beings prefer the intellectual pleasures:
Now it is an unquestionable fact that those who are equally acquainted with, and equally capable of
appreciating and enjoying both, do give a most marked preference to the manner of existence which
employs their higher faculties. Few human creatures would consent to be changed into any of the
lower animals, for the promise of the fullest allowance of a beast s pleasures; It is better to be a
human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be a Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied.
And if the fool, or the pig, is of a different opinion, it is because they know only their own side of the
question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides.[MillJS:1863]
Mill highlights that a, a fool or pig, can only have a different opinion because it knows only one side
of an issue. But a Socrates or human, knows both sides of an issue, and therefore can have a different
opinion based on valid justification which can only be achieved haven taken all aspects into regard.

Argumentative Essay On Single Sex Schools
Single sex education has been becoming more popular in recent years. In 2002, the No Child Left
Behind Act was passed. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools
because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have been
established (Novotney). Historically, single gender education has been more prevalent in other
countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States.
One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws
concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be financially
funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run many single sex
schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and Signorella 659). With the
advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and controversies have arisen. Parents
began questioning what type of education best suited their child. Should parents send their children to
coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In which environment will students most

  • 2. Buencamino V. Noftsinger Case Study In Arizona, the decision of the court regarding relocation of a minor child often requires the application of Arizona Revised Statute 25 408 (I). The application of this statute depends upon two factors being in place: a written agreement or court order regarding custody of the minor child, and both parents currently residing in the state of Arizona. In Buencamino v. Noftsinger, the Arizona Court of Appeals turned to the law to evaluate the trial court s ruling. A Brief History of the Case: Buencamino v. Noftsinger: The Father (Appellant) and Mother (Appellee) had a child together in 2004. The parents were never married. • 3. Leslie twiggy Hornby Essay quot;At 17 Leslie Hornby took hold of the world. At 21 she let it go, she was the original waif, a 60 s phenomenon a superstar. She was Twiggy quot; (Vogue). Leslie Hornby was the revolutionary woman who changed the idea of beauty in the eyes of the fashion industry and the entire world. Twiggy exemplified the androgynous mod look that swept America as it had Britain and much of Europe in the 1960 s. She healthily maintained a 5 ft 6 1/2 inch 90 lb body. Based on her thin figure, a nickname of quot;Twiggy quot; was derived. Twiggy s popularity not only produced many people who tried to look like her but also drastically increased the hourly wages of models. She paved the way for current top models like Kate Moss, Elle MacPherson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twiggy s success soared when she made her first visit to America. On March 20,1967 the second she stepped off the plane she was swarmed by fans, and was candy to the media s eyes. She was like a fever that spread. Everyone wanted a piece of her. Her pictures were everywhere. Twiggy s popularity allowed her to charge revolutionary high prices an hour. She charged as much as $240 an hour opposed to a 50 s top model like Suzy Parker who only received about $40 an hour (Century of Models). Once again Twiggy set the standard for 90 s top models to earn outrageous sums of money. For example, the 90 s Twiggy (Kate Moss) earns about 26.3 million dollars a year. One reason for Twiggy s great success was that the public had never seen anyone like her. She had a completely new look that took the entire world by surprise. During the 40 s, long limbed, and sophisticated was the trend. In the 50 s, a more curvaceous womanly look (Marilyn Monroe) was in. Twiggy set the 60 s waiflike standard. What a leap from Marilyn to Twiggy. They were almost completely opposite. Twiggy s influence is still seen on today s runways and television. The current day Twiggy is Kate Moss. Her figure is strikingly similar (Twiggy 31 22 32, Moss 33 22 35) (Century of Models). Remarkably, Twiggy s favorite thing to eat was ice cream, bananas and hot fudge, she doesn t drink or smoke but quot;eats like a horse quot; (Time). Twiggy is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Beloved Essay Oftentimes, one can get too caught up in familial matters or personal issues, and as a result, something as simple as providing another with love and value can be long forgotten. Both novels take place in Ohio during late 1980 s to the early 1930 s. In Beloved, the protagonist Sethe continuously mentions how she wishes her mother would have put more effort into their relationship.. Most days, Sethe would only see her mother for one or two hours. Her mother was always busy working in the hot and musty rice field. Sethe felt like her mother never really loved her and did not care much for her well being either. Sethe expresses her sadness: Sunday s she slept like a stick. She must of nursed me two or three weeks that s the way the others did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote shows that Sethe never had the opportunity to feel her mother s compassion or affection, more commonly known as a mother s love . This love is often personified in a mother who will lay down her life for her child. It is known as a selfless sacrifice. Sethe s mother was always working and never had time to spend with her, let alone time to nurse her. One could say Sethe s relationship with her mother was non existent, Sethe constantly reminds herself how she felt abandoned when she was younger. She had to be nursed by Nan, a women who s job was to breastfeed children of the whites as well as other fellow slaves. Nan had to nurse white babies and me too because Ma am was in the rice. The little white babies got it first and I got what was left. Or none. There was no nursing milk to call my own (Morrison, Beloved, 200). Put differently, Sethe did not have the opportunity to create a special mother daughter bond that most mothers create with their child, to ensure the child s protection and enrich their development. Therefore she was not given a shot to be a real daughter to anyone, she had no support or love from the only family she had, which was her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Raising of the Age You Can Get Your Driver s License... Should the age to receive a driver s license be raised and, if not, should graduated licensing be instituted? This is a growing question across America as well as other countries around our globe. The percentage of teenage accidents involving automobiles is on a constant rise. Whether caused by the lack of experience or under the influence of alcohol, death has become all too common among teen motorists. This problem is not going to go away by itself; action needs to be taken. The state must raise the age requirement to receive a license or institute graduated licensing because teens are not mature enough to handle the dangerous responsibilities of driving. We allow teens to get their licenses at an earlier age than in most countries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any way you look at it, 16 year old drivers represent a growing problem, adds Allen Williams, senior vice president of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (CNN). Accidents that involve 16 year old drivers are not like those involving older drivers. For one thing, 16 year old get in trouble trying to handle unusual driving situations, even small emergencies. More often than when older people drive, such situation turn into disasters. Eighty two percent of all 16 year old drivers in fatal crashes during 1996 made at least one driving error that contributed to the crash. This compares with 68 percent of drivers 17 19 years old and 52 percent of drivers 25 49 years old (CNN). Training and educating programs can help teens learn driving skills, but these programs do not produce safer drivers. The only thing that s taught in driver education is how to drive legally and not responsibly. It s often not poor skills that cause the crashes in the first place. Its teenagers attitudes. A vast majority of teens are thrill seekers, thinking they are bullet proof and invincible. Thus the potential for death and destruction is great (Grant14). Teens naturally tend to rebel against adult standards and regulations. Peer pressure influences teenagers much more than advice given by an adult. Today s teachers have either forgotten or they ignore the fact that 16 year old drivers show off as soon as they get in the car with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Effects Of The Reformation In The 16th And 17th Century I believe the single biggest pressure that caused the most issues for England in the 16th and 17th century relate to the Reformation. The Reformation effected everyone in the country as they were forced into a new religion headed by the King. It drastically changed people s lives and it s no wonder why the change wasn t fully accepted for a long time. Rapid population increase caused a significant strain on the country as they needed to develop new ways to feed everyone. The abolishment of common lands in favor of enclosure agriculture strained the poorest people in the country. All of these created mass amounts of tension and stress within a society transitioning into an economic power. In 1534, the English Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy effectively placing Henry the 8th as the head of the English Church. His royal prerogative was extended to deciding the religion in which the country would follow. The need of a male heir played a significant role in this decision, along with the opinions of many throughout the Christian world that Catholic Church was corrupt beyond repair. The event left the English citizens in a state of disbelief and resentment as their whole lives seemed to be turned upside down. There would be a number of consequences resulting from the Reformation. For starters the government began dissolving the monasteries which provided a number of services to their communities around them, such as education and several acted as hospitals. The King attempted to compensate for these lost services by establishing public services to his citizens with the money he was gaining from the land he acquired from the monasteries. Unfortunately the money was poorly spend and did not adequately replace the services of the monasteries. Adding on to this a large chunk of the population refused to follow the newly created church. Several clergymen who didn t recognize Henry as the new head of the church were executed for not swearing loyalty to him. Furthermore thousands of people would rise up through the years in rebellion against the state for the reason of religion. The Pilgrimage of Grace for example rose to 40,000 people demanding the Supremacy Act be reversed as well as punishing the officials ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The four frames: Structural Leadership, Human Resource Leadership, Political Leadership, and Symbolic Leadership. • 9. Deception Of Women In Richard III A main aspect of Richard s, Duke of Gloucester, personality is his hatred of women, possibly due to most woman within Richard III holding more knowledge than the men, in regards to Richard s deceiving nature. The only woman who is outsmarted by Richard is Lady Anne. Deception, as well as their relationship, is crucial to the overall plot. The character of Lady Anne has crucial dramatic functions within the play because her character supports Richard s growing reputation of manipulating and morally wrong motives. When she is seduced by Richard, it shows his success at manipulation, which eventually does fail in the later acts of the play. After successfully slaying Lady Anne s husband, King Henry, Richard is still able to gain her hand in marriage using persuasive language. Through this act, Lady Anne becomes a blocking figure for Richard because he has to conquer her, but he also has a pre existing disadvantage regarding the situation: Lady Anne is aware that Richard just killed her husband. Whenever they interact with each other, the use of formal language is present. Due to this, it has the capability to thoroughly show the tension between them, as well as Lady Anne s attitude towards him. She tells him Thou mayst be damned for that wicked deed! • 10. Figurative Language Versus Literal Language The English language is known as being one of the most difficult languages to learn. There are many reasons for this, a major factor being the use of figurative language. Since the English language is packed with figures of speech is can be very confusing to truly comprehend what someone is trying to get across. This doesn t just go for the new comers to the English language but also to native English speakers. Throughout this paper I will define and give examples for ten different types of figurative language while providing appropriate usage. These types of figurative language include idiom, analogy, metaphor, simile, cliché, amphiboly, fame word, hyperbole, euphemism, and lastly colloquialism. Idiom Idioms are words or phrases that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This figure of speech is an expression of how if you re in a bad situation, make the best of it like lemons into lemonade. Since clichés are used so frequently they lose their effectiveness. It is as the clichés go in one ear and right out the other because we are used to hearing them too often. Amphiboly Amphiboly is a misleading notion on someone s original words structured to confuse or mislead and audience ( Dictionary.com, 2012). Many candidates during elections use this figurative language in order to misrepresent their competitor resulting in more votes for them. For example Sarah says I believe that lowers taxes. It s the best thing to do for our economy right now . If Tom was talking about raises taxes he could still state that Sarah said It s the best thing to do for our economy right now . In actuality Sarah wants to lower the taxes, Tom uses Amphibology in order to mislead others about her actually meaning behind her words. Amphiboly can be extremely confusing especially if you don t know what the person originally said. It is very easy to be gullible in this situation. It is best to always do research and check each statement someone said to be sure of their meaning behind their words. Flame word Flame words are emotional words that are able get under someone s skin in a negative way. These words will trigger a reaction from people. Oliver told Roland to sound the horn so that Charlemagne and the primary army would come back and that the battle would be won with ease. Roland said it would be foolish to sound the horn. He said that if he sounded the horn he would lose respect in France. Roland said that the Franks were far superior fighters compared to the Muslims and that their 20,000 troops would be victorious. Oliver continued to ask Roland to sound the horn for aid. Roland said he would not blow the trumpet because it would be a disgrace to God and the French. Roland said the French would win because they were superior fighters and they would not need back up. Research has proven that those under the age of twenty one are more likely to be heavy or binge drinkers and more specifically, twenty two percent of all students under the age of twenty one are binge drinkers. There are many beliefs on what is to blame for the irresponsible drinking habits of these teenagers. One popular belief is that because they re not drinking with other adults or experienced drinkers they are not being guided into the proper direction to being responsible drinkers. However, the main reason is the lack of education on the topic. • 14. Persuasive Essay On Gender Neutral Rooming As Gloria Steinem once said, A gender equal society would be one where the word gender does not exist: where everyone can be themselves . Recently, Lehigh has been implemented something new to better embrace the meaning of gender inclusion. The newest residence hall building, Farrington Square Apartment, is now available for all gender rooming, which means girls and boys can live together in one room. Residence Life, Residential Service, and the Pride Center believe, This is an active effort to align Lehigh s living options with the Principles of Our Equitable Community . Even though to some extent, it is hard for people, who traditionally lived in dormitories divided into male and female, to become accustomed to the gender inclusive rooming, this decision is a huge progress Lehigh made in giving students a sense of belonging and allowing them to experience more diverse living styles. It stands to reason that gender neutral rooming is definitely beneficial to give students a sense of inclusion, especially for transgender and gender non conforming students. Ashley Lemmons, the director of Residence Life, wrote in an email that : Students at Lehigh should feel a sense of belonging to Lehigh and should also find micro community within Lehigh where they feel at home. And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural, in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were beginnings to a presented belief. Robert Nozick s Experience Machine In this essay, following a brief discussion on Nozick s Experience Machine , I argue that his assumption that nobody would plug into the experience machine is a false one due to his failure to fully explore what creates a pleasurable experience. I will then further discuss this idea of pleasure, suggesting that it is possible that the experience machine could potentially offer an experience that people would be more inclined to participate in and that more fully imitates reality. However, I will counter this with the Nozick s affirmation that people desire to connect with reality and mimicry of reality does not allow a part in the course of our universe. Gray matter, an important constituent of central nervous system includes regions of the brain involved in sensory perception that includes vision, hearing, memory, emotions, speech, executive functions like decision making and self control. Gray matter has been a focus of clinical attention and research as it has been consistently involved in studies to better understand brain pathology, pathophysiology and neurobiology in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Many meta analytical reviews in structural neuroimaging studies have persistently shown abnormalities in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Using anatomical likelihood estimation (ALE), a meta analyses of forty two studies demonstrated extensive gray matter deficits in frontal, temporal, cingulate and insular cortex and thalamus in schizophrenia (SZ) when compared to healthy controls. Similarly the same meta analyses of fourteen studies showed gray matter reductions in anterior cingulate and bilateral insula in bipolar disorder (BD) when compared to healthy controls (Ellison Wright I and Bullmore E, 2010). Faith, or undying trust, can be applied to many areas of life in our pursuit of knowledge; whether it may be for religious purposes or having confidence in world leaders or family members. Although it does not require physical evidence, faith is based on such strong beliefs that so many trust it to be the truth. Unfortunately, as human beings, we may not always be correct in our way of thinking. Questions concerning faith as a way of knowing arise when regarding morals or ethics, as well as some have a different faith than others. Faith is a more modern approach to a way of knowing, however, has played such a large part since the beginning of human existence. While thinking of faith, religion is usually first to come to mind. And it is true, faith plays a large part in religion. You must have faith that your way of life is the way you are meant to live. As previously stated, faith does not require empirical evidence, however not having any evidence is justified in the individual s life. In many religions, faith offers structure to its follower s lives, which helps guide them into the right direction. Decades prior, Americans settled the final part of coastal America and living accommodations finally increased nationwide. Americans turned to the political parties to legitimize every impulse and vision to improve life. However, the developing trusts and corporations purged the parties autonomy and hindered domestic trade growth. In doing so, the trusts and corporations established a codependence and direct association to United States Congress. Here the trusts blocked a citizens input on Senate and House and depraved these Americans of an advantageous government. Americans desired to restore the government they once knew and turned to their political parties for assistance. Within these parties came leaders garnered and pronounced with the power imparted upon them by the countrymen they sought to serve. Of these leaders came Woodrow Wilson, the former President of Princeton University and a man held back by his upbringing in the south. During his campaign to the White House, Wilson primarily ran on the platform of restricting the control that businesses held on the government. Upon induction as the 28th president of the United States Woodrow Wilson demonstrated his increasing command through achieving his campaign goal and restoring the public s control over the domestic trade markets. • 36. Physics of Catapults Essay The ballista, or shield piercer, was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a bow and arrow. Its primary use was to, as the name suggests, pierce enemy shields, since normal bows lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is nothing more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body. http://members.lycos.nl/onager/GastrophetesPic.jpg As time went on ballistas were improved to become larger and more powerful, eventually becoming mounted mechanisms that could be operated by two or more people. Using this relationship assumes that the force constant is constant, or that moving the arms back 2 meters gives twice the force that moving them back 1 meter would do, which is most likely not correct, but close enough for a general assumption of the force to be made. When the force is applied, the projectile is accelerated to the end of the ballista, at which point it released with a velocity v and an angle q from the horizontal. The velocity can be found using the kinematic equation v2=2ax, where a is the acceleration and x is the length of the ballista that the projectile is accelerated upon. Since F=ma and F in this case is kd, the equation can be simplified into v2=2 kdx/m. After it is released, the projectile obeys the laws of projectile motion, disregarding air resistance. Therefore, the range of the ballista can be given by the equation R=v2sin2q/g, where g is the accleration due to gravity. Mangonel History The Romans, finding the ballista difficult to construct, simplified the design and created the onager. It had one arm instead of two, and is what is most commonly identified as a catapult today. http://members.lycos.nl/onager/OnagerPic.jpg During the Dark Ages, the French were able to re invent the onager, and they called it the mangonneau, and it became known in England as the mangonel. • 37. Is It Better to Be a Human Dissatisfied Than a Pig Satisfied Oak Trees versus Acorns: Which is better? It has been argued for centuries now, that people do not grow their full human potential, largely because they do not participate in a reasonably sophisticated refinement . John Stuart Mill, in his book Utilitarianism, claims that It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied [Mill JS: 1863]. This essay will show that the advantages of being a human dissatisfied are better than those of a pig satisfied . But before this can be proven, we have to understand the metaphor that compares humans to pigs. Mill compares two types of people: people who prefer to be humans according to his definition, and those that prefer to be pigs . As pigs would ‘eat up anything that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever kind of pleasure they prefer is the more worthy kind. Mill uses this concept to show that knowledgeable, higher order beings prefer the intellectual pleasures: Now it is an unquestionable fact that those who are equally acquainted with, and equally capable of appreciating and enjoying both, do give a most marked preference to the manner of existence which employs their higher faculties. Few human creatures would consent to be changed into any of the lower animals, for the promise of the fullest allowance of a beast s pleasures; It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be a Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, is of a different opinion, it is because they know only their own side of the question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides.[MillJS:1863] Mill highlights that a, a fool or pig, can only have a different opinion because it knows only one side of an issue. But a Socrates or human, knows both sides of an issue, and therefore can have a different opinion based on valid justification which can only be achieved haven taken all aspects into regard. Therefore Mill s argument is a good one because it logically argues that people who have experienced both types of pleasures (intellectual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ying Ying was born with a Tiger spirit who possessed two ways, black and gold. The gold leaps with its fierce heart. The black side stands still with cunning, hiding its gold between trees, seeing and not being seen, waiting patiently for things to come (Tan 282). • 41. Argumentative Essay On Single Sex Schools Single sex education has been becoming more popular in recent years. In 2002, the No Child Left Behind Act was passed. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have been established (Novotney). Historically, single gender education has been more prevalent in other countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States. One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be financially funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run many single sex schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and Signorella 659). With the advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and controversies have arisen. Parents began questioning what type of education best suited their child. Should parents send their children to coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In which environment will students most succeed? While data has come up inconclusive in this regard, it is still important for certain values to be taught in schools. Parents want their children to succeed in their social skills, be tr. Coeducational schools are the best option for students to be successful in school and in their future. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
