The Degradation Of Coastal Wetlands
Introduction
There is rapid destruction of salt marshes and wetlands due to dredging operations and filling. In
Boston, almost eighty one percent of the salt marshes have been lost. For the Canadian Maritimes,
almost sixty four percent of the coastal wetlands have disappeared due to agricultural reclamation.
Approximately, ninety three percent coastal marshes have been lost along the Pacific coast in the
United States. In addition, there is a degradation of coastal wetland due to invasive species, nutrient
enrichment, and storm water discharge. It is critical to preserve and restore coastal salt marshes so that
carbon can be sequestered, and fish and bird populations can be preserved (Roman et. al. 2012). It is
estimated that coastal wetlands are being lost at the rate of two times the rate at which they are being
restored. Salt marshes are found amid human developments and coastal areas and play an important
role in protecting these communities from the threats posed by being close to the coast. Depending on
the density of vegetation, production of biomass, and the size of the marsh, salt marshes provide many
critical ecosystem services, such as, stabilization of the shoreline, weakening of the waves, and
reduction of floodwater (Shepard et. al. 2011). Wetlands include boreal peatlands and tropical
mangroves. They provide critical ecosystem services by acting as reserves for carbon, conserving
biodiversity, purifying water, enhancing fish production, and

Globalization Vs Globalization
Twenty first century is defined by globalization, something Thomas L. Friedman unquestionably
agrees with in his book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty first Century. Globalization
can immediately be correlated with businesses, but such should not be the case in this circumstance.
Globalization, as a matter of fact, also takes its effect on cultures worldwide. For example, thanks to
globalization, western cultures are able to perceive the cultures of other countries around the world,
some of which are found to be exotic. However, when this occurs, there is a certain concern that must
be brought up: the issue with looking at the world from a western lens. Chandra Talpade Mohanty
writes in her work Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses that the
definition of colonization she wishes to invoke here is a predominantly discursive one, focusing on a
certain mode of appropriation and codification of scholarship and knowledge about women in the
third world by particular analytic categories employed in specific writings on the subject which take as
their referent feminist interests as they have been articulated in the U.S. and Western Europe. It is
worth mentioning that the safety measure of identifying the lens through which one looks at another
culture or subject is a necessity. I, for example, can talk about the Western culture and the Indian
culture without such notice because I have been indigenously part of both. However, the

The Moon Landing Was A Hoax Essay
What if the first moon landing by America was all a hoax? Three American Astronauts named Neil
Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. These men flew on the Apollo 11 and are famous for
being the first men to step on the moon. One of the biggest conspiracy theories is that the whole 1969
Moon landing was all faked and filmed in a studio in Hollywood, California. The Moon landing in
1969 supposedly did not happen and there is documentation evidence, experts testimony, and physical
evidence to prove that it did not happen. There is physical evidence that can prove on how the moon
landing is a hoax. One of the popular evidences that it is a hoax is that in the videos and pictures of the
men on the moon, in the distance of space there is absolutely no stars in sight. The photographs on the
moon don t show any stars in the sky, (5 Goofy Moon landing Hoax Theories, 2017 p.30). That is why
a lot of people believed this was faked and filmed in a studio. The second piece of physical evidence is
how when they stuck the American flag in the ground it was waving like there is wind in space. There
s no wind on the moon, so how come the flag was blowing in a breeze? (5 Goofy Moon landing Hoax
Theories, 2017 p.30). On the moon there is no atmosphere like here on earth so there can t be any
reasonable explanation as to why the flags moving but NASA has tried. The final part of my physical
evidence is one of the most famous. In a picture from the astronauts there is a moon rock

The Unknown Of D Day
Matthew Fear Ms. Williams English 1 S1 18 April 2016 The Unknown of D Day June 6th, 1944 will
be a day forever remembered in history as the beginning of the end for Nazi Control in Western
Europe. D Day, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, was a combined effort of allied forces
consisting of Americans, British, Belgium, Canadian, French, Danish, and Norwegian military
branches to free Europe from notorious German control. Many questions involving D Day have yet to
be answered, such as the ones to be listed. How did the French Underground/French Resistance assist
in the invasion? Why were paratroopers crucial to the push inland from the beaches? Why were the
German Panzer tanks kept in reserve when they could ve pushed the allied advance back? What were
the tactical failures committed by the Germans? And what was the aftermath for the French following
the invasion? Only a small amount of information has shed light on the topic of the German s tactical
blunders that occurred on and around D Day. As stated by historical documents collected by Cornelius
Ryan, who was an Irish author who followed allied units in Europe and the Pacific during WWII, And
so it was that, one by one, senior officers from Rommel down had left the front on the very eve of the
battle. All of them had reasons, but it was almost as thought a capricious fate had manipulated their
departure. (Ryan 106). Based upon the actions of these commanding officers taking leave to visit

How Is Hawaiian Culture Intertwined
Cultures Intertwined Two cultures intertwined in Hawai i, but which lifestyle will help succeed in the
modern day Hawai i? Hawaiian lifestyle has been with the Islands since the day the Tahitians first
arrived to Hawai i. In the book Hawaiian History, Richard Lighter states traditional hawaiian culture
consists of many life lessons that helped the natives thrive (pg 24). Wealth wasn t redundant by
money; it was weighted by the abundance of food, water, and love. The three things that is needed to
live a healthy life. In Hawai i, there is also a lifestyle that is modernized. This lifestyle is adequate by

Their work ethic took time and required patience. According to the book, Hawaiian History, the
natives would work together to prosper throughout time. It took years to finish a project like a

lava rocks from the North shore to the South East shore (Summers 34). There were hundreds of
thousands of rocks that the Hawaiians had to carry over, but it was all for the fishponds. Fishponds
were the source of life to the Hawaiians. The work ethic instilled into the fishponds shows that the
Hawaiians are patient, humble, and hard working. To keep a fishpond running, it takes years upon

The Influence Of The English Language
French is the eleventh most widely spoken language in the world. It is the official language of 33
countries in the world and it is spoken in two of the G7 countries. 200 million people around the world
understand, speak, read or write French and the language is the mother tongue of 75 million people.
French is the official language of postal services across the world and is one of the official languages
of the International Red Cross. The French speaking Africa represents an area larger than the USA.
French is the most widely taught second language after English and over 20,000 English words have
their origins in French. In terms of number of words, French is the second largest language after
English. In the humanities and the social sciences many of the most important writings have come
from France.
Students and researchers who know French have access to these works for several years before they
are translated into English. Many significant works are never translated and remain accessible only to
those who know the language.
Historically France and the French language have had an enormous influence over American society.
France was the United States first ally. French thought played a dominant role among the founders of
the United States in the 18th century, and it continues to shape America today through the influence of
such intellectual currents as post structuralism and post modernism. In the humanities and the social
sciences, many of the most important writings have

The Effects Of Withdrawal On Biological And Social Health
Tolerance and withdrawal of an addictive substance is what I believe causes the most damage to the
biological and social health of an individual because, with tolerance, a person needs more of a drug in
order to achieve the same effects they felt previously with smaller amounts. And with withdrawal, a
series of symptoms that may appear when a drug on which a user is physically dependent is stopped or
significantly reduced. The withdrawal symptoms vary depending on a range of factors including the
drug type and tend to be opposite to the effects produced by the drug. The body is always trying to
maintain a state of balance. When the body has become accustomed to the drug for normal function
and use is ceased, the body will try to counterbalance

Poetry from Linda Thomas and Joan Didion on The Santa Ana...
The Santa Ana Wind
Linda Thomas and Joan Didion are both natives of Southern California and wrote about the Santa
Ana, a wind that blows from northeast to Southern California every year. Didion, the author of The
Santa Ana, mostly writes about the area where she was born in 1934. Thomas, the author of Brush
Fire, was also born in Southern California. She has been writing poems, stories and essays for 25
years. Her writing has appeared in numerous print journals like American Poetry Review. Both writers
approach the topic of the Santa Ana winds very differently, although they both wish to inform
different people about the effects of the winds. Each author has a different point of view and purpose
than the other. Didion wanted to write ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Didion s tone was serious, ominous, and dark, and was very different from Thomas s tone which was
more positive. Although acknowledging the destructive nature of the fires caused by the Santa Ana
winds, Thomas generally talked about positive results of the fires. She describes the amazing sight of
the fire as she watches the flames lick up a hillside and ends the essay by reminding the reader that the
chaparral will return. By this, she means that many of the plants in chaparral country need the heat of
the flames to reproduce, so within a few weeks, new plants will rise from the ashes. The fire also helps
get rid of the dead plants that need to be burnt so they can get out of the way for new plants to come
in. Didion has a very different tone regarding the winds. She describes the various hints of change
with dark words. To her, there is an eerie absence of surf and the heat was surreal, instead of it simply
being hot with no waves in the water. The author particularly chooses words with creepy connotations
to make the reader feel a similar feeling to the uneasiness that the Southern California natives feel.
These contrasting tones make the authors opposing views on the winds very evident. Both writers use
immense amounts of imagery to describe the Santa Ana Winds. Since Santa Ana is believed to be a
terrifying wind, each author used imagery to either prove or refute the terror. Thomas proved the
beauty in Southern California that occurred because of

Dna And Tissue Extraction Kit Essay
In this study we extensively extracted deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from an unidentified segment of
flesh distributed amongst different lab groups. In order to do this, we dissolved the tissues and
extracted only the genetic material desired using the Qiagen DNeasy Blood Tissue extraction kit. We
then used forensic methods of genome identification in order to determine the genus and species of the
animal These methods include gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction, and Cycle Sequencing
Reactions. After isolating the DNA, we gathered electropherograms from the CSRs to determine the
nitrogenous base frequencies of the extracted sample using a genome alignment software program
called GENEIOUS. Using this aligned data, we compared the results to the online genome index
GenBank using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST).
After analyzing the results of the alignment programs and the genome index, I determined the genus
and species of my group s sample as being Crotalus durissus, a pit viper located in Southern and
Central America. This data was determined with an E value of 2 x 10^ 5 and was taken from the
mitochondrial gene with a 97% accuracy match out of 187 nitrogenous base groups.
Introduction: Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, is the polymer of nucleic acids that make up the
foundation of all life. It is the necessary code from which an organism is derived, including all amino

Reality And Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Have you ever thought how much of your life is distracted and even controlled by technology? Ray
Bradbury emphasizes how this debilitating distraction can manifest in the future by writing about it in
the The Veldt. Bradbury uses imagery and characterization to allude to the fact that the use of tech as a
supplementary parenting technique can cause child development problems in many forms. In the
beginning of the story, Bradbury uses imagery like ...you could feel the prickling fur on your
skin...your mouth was stuffed.... Which gives the impression that the difference between reality and
technology are unrecognizable. Ray Bradbury uses imagery and characterization to allude to the fact

In the beginning of the story, Bradbury uses imagery like ...you could feel the prickling fur on your
skin...your mouth was stuffed.... Which gives the impression that the difference between reality and
technology are unrecognizable. The border between ethical enjoyment and living in an artificial reality
is washed away in The Veldt, because of these types of technological advances that caused humans,
especially the Hadley family, to pass the line where technology should not mess with a human s
mental emotions, however a remnant will remain where ethical enjoyment met its boundary which is

Three Goal Setting Tips That Will Change Your Life Essay
Three Goal Setting Tips That Will Change Your Life
By Jim Klein
Aug 17, 2007
If you use these three goal setting tips you will be on your way to creating the life you desire.
Goal Setting Tip #1: Where are you going?
This goal setting tip can be summed up with the title of a book my father bought me on goal setting
quite a few years ago. The title of the book was If you don t know where you re going you ll probably
end up somewhere else . Those words have stuck with me all these years.
When you think about the title and realize that most people have no idea where they re going or what
they want. It s really sad. Our minds are goal seeking computers. Just give it a specific goal and it will
work to complete it. However, all most people have is vague wandering thoughts of what they want. ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carry the list with you and continue to write down more goals as you think of them. It may take
several hours or days to complete this list. However, it s essential that you do it.
Goal Setting Tip #2: Let s get specific
The second goal setting tip, get specific about the things that you want. Take your top 100 list and start
with the easiest ones and write a more specific description of what you want. If it s a car, what make
and model, what color, leather or cloth seats. If it s a trip, where are you going, how will you get there
and what will you see. If it s money, be specific. How much, why do you want it and what will you do
with it when you get it. Remember, BE SPECIFIC!
Goal Setting Tip #3: It s in the want to, you ll find the how to.
Now let s discover the key to successful goal setting. Why do you want it? Think about and write on
paper why you want each of the dreams on your Top 100 list. Get specific and dig deep to the
emotions and feelings that are behind each one. It s in this step you ll find which ones you truly are
willing to pay the price to get and which ones are not really

Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus

Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper
Ms. Annabelle Anglo
3/16/2015
EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1
Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that
forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of
insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the
insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar
remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more
damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes
Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are:

PERSONAL HISTORY
The narrator in this story is a 1. Person narrator and the story is therefore told from the narrator s point
of view. An example of the first person narrative is already in the opening line: Yes I m from New
York I say shifting my drink to my other hand. This in medias res opening throws us right into the
story without telling when or where we are. It informs us that the narrator is from New York, and
indicates that she isn t there at the moment. The setting of this dialogue is probably a bar somewhere
in England, seeing that she has a drink, and that the one who answers her in the end has an accent that
reeks of Cambridge. Because the narrator is not in her hometown, the interior monologue following

They can t really be together very much, because of all the people trying to get them to go to functions
and debutant balls.
Another pattern in the family s behavior is all the moving. The great grandparents moved to NY from
Great Britain. Their son and daughter in law moves out of NYC and the narrator s parents had a baby
in a hospital in New York and raised it on the Upper West Side. Then they moved out of the city, and
later the narrator moves to NY.
Througout the story we hear about this elegant lifestyle with a state room and a carriage, tea served by
uniformed maids, elegant silk slip gowns. The narrator is the only one in the family that isn t living the
glamorous life in NY. She is living in a flat with cockroaches and a mattress on the floor. She is the
one who breaks the pattern by living a humble life. She is also the only one described as going to an
event with a date. We went to studio 54. She is the first one who isn t going to functions and has tea
served in the afternoon.
Therefore I think this story is mainly about concepts of time, and about the evolution of a family and a
city. We start off with this traditional, wealthy, British family who is welcomed to the new world with
a carriage and tea in a large room. Their child is wearing sailor s outfits from a gentlemen s outfitter
and there are fruit sellers and dairymaids in the streets every morning. They

man gave them the police the address of the house that he was currently staying at. Therefore, if
anyone was to report him as an impostor or state that he had broken into the house, the police would
not have to investigate, as he had already come in to expose his situation. Later on, no one really

Rhitorical Appeals in Literature Essay
Throughout the Three pieces of literature I read Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, Crazy Courage
by Alma Luz Villanueva, and Theme for English B by Langston Hughes, multiple claims are implied
on the subject of knowledge and individual power. Whether it is about Race, being different, or the
struggle to survive, they all point towards the same direction. They all show that being strong, proud,
and courage is what makes you individually powerful, even if others may look down upon you or
think of you as weird. Through the use of the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, these three
authors truly move the readers to really accept what they are trying to prove. In Superman and Me by
Sherman Alexie, the narrator s claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, the author talks about a man named Michael that
she met in her fiction class, who, as she later finds out, is a cross dresser. Using the rhetorical appeal
Pathos, the author truly proves her point that other people s opinions do not matter so long as you are
courageous and confident about yourself. In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he
is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all

person in front of them considering his situation that they couldn t even speak. In fact, even those who
would kill him were impressed at the level of courage he must have had, and the fact that he seemed
even happier in the seemingly odd clothes and outfit he was wearing (Villanueva 27). Last but not
least is the poem Theme for English B by Langston Hughes. The author Langston Hughes seems to
use more of a Logical appeal. While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a
doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to
knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. In my opinion, the
author is trying to show that even though he is of a different race than his white teacher, and even

Elvis is most known for his music. Many people think he invented Rock and Roll, but he didn t. He

Relationship Between Science And Religion
The relationship between science and religion is an arguably rigid one, the two topics presently posing
contrasting ideas in modern society. However, this relationship has been varied over the course of
time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not necessarily as
simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each other; rather the
two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between science and religion can often
be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It can also be seen that
there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it merely reductionist to
say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the extent that both these
concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them to clash.
During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which we
can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a predominantly
protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers, from which he
concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a town might attend
religious services. The period also saw the revival of the evangelical movement, from which people
believed that religion should inform every aspect of daily life, and we must spend our lives

Susan Blackmore The Memes Machine
Susan Blackmore s idea of memetics is controversial because not many believe it is scientific at all. A
meme is an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture
(Blackmore, 7). Blackmore describes this as singing Happy Birthday to someone or a handshake could
be a meme. A meme is a form of imitation. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some
differences between the two. The idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like
memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in the ways that they
see fit. Throughout the book Blackmore makes valid points about how memes have coexisted with
evolution, which indeed would make the memetics a science. ... Show more content on

This is defined as imitation from one person to another. Humans are capable of imitation from birth.
Children are taught from imitation, more specifically memes. According to Charles Darwin s Theory
of natural selection, creatures evolve because adaptations in the environment change and the offspring
of these species survive and better adapt, which is evolution. Blackmore then refers to the
evolutionary algorithm as described by Dennett. Evolution in general in the science world relies on
three requisites variation, selection, and heredity. The algorithm solely relies on something being
copied and this is referred to by Dawkins, as a replicator. Specifically, a replicator relies on something
being copied. It is defined as any unit of information which is copied with variations or errors, and
whose nature influences its own probability of replication (Blackmore,

Holistic Percpective Study
1. A holistic percpective What the text basically tells me about a holistic perspective is that
anthropologist will study anything that are human or similar to human. They will continue to study
Homo sapiens for as long as they have a human state and they will study anyware back to the time
when humans were only just starting to adapt to tool use and social behavior. 2. Fieldwork What I read
from the text about A anthropologists fieldwork is pretty interesting. The fieldwork that is done by an
anthropologist is to completely immerse oneself the culter of another. Doing that is the only true way
to understand that culters way of life and to truley gane insight about it. A anthropologist will
completely forget about there own culter and act as if there culter they are studying is the there own.
This is usually done by living with the people that the anthropologist is studing, completely
surrounding themself by there culter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Shared Knowledge And Personal Knowledge
Shared knowledge and personal knowledge, although they may come from the same concept of
acquiring them through a variety of situations, it differs on the process of gaining them. Thereupon,
such approach is seen through human sciences and natural sciences. Human sciences portray shared
knowledge through socio psychological experiments and theories created from personal experiences
and circumstances, as well as a set of collective norms and values that change depending on a group of
society or culture. On the other hand, natural sciences are made up of theories, formulation of
hypothesis and through experiments; which are obtained from paradigm shifts where it involves
perception, reasoning, language, and memory. But how does shared knowledge and personal
knowledge differ or are similar in both natural and human sciences?

Soft Media And Soft News Media Essay
Just how influential are soft news outlets in informing the american people? I approached this topic
with an interest in the answer because soft news media is one of the early ways that I was introduced
to politics. It is through this medium of media that I have seen many people increase their political
participation. There have been some studies in this topic but I want to see how prevalent these studies
are to today s soft news media. One of the more useful resources that I had while writing this paper is
that of Matthew A. Baum. He has written many studies regarding soft news in the media throughout
the years. I believe that soft news outlets are a great way for the politically uninformed to become
better informed rather than watching the more hard news outlets. What does the term soft news
actually mean? Well one great way of defining it is as a style and genre that blurs the line between
information and entertainment. (Lisa Mills Brown 2014) A few examples of some of the more well
known soft news programs are The Daily Show and The Tonight Show hosted by a variety of anchors.
In my opinion, what makes these shows so popular is how each show is able to combine jokes and
lighthearted humor to news that would otherwise be serious. Accordingly, many people probably feel
the same way. By moving away from the more traditional hard news, people are probably looking
more towards soft news media as a way to get their daily political news. With a variety of different

Dr. Greg Forbes
Dr. Greg Forbes
What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is
greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary
powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of
people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a
tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes.
Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so
maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded
the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of
tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex
tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field
manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts
and microbursts. Clearly by his involvement in so many research projects, Forbes had an open and
creative mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Weather Channel, especially over the spring and summer. Since joining The Weather Channel in 1999,

The Negative Chain Of Effects Of Violence In The Media
No one can be protected from the constant bombardments of violence in the media. Violence has been
apart of our world ever since the beginning of time, and therefore has become a part of our daily lives.
Acts of violence are ubiquitous and can be witnessed in myriad forms; whether it s on the news, social
media, films, shows, video games and even cartoons. A young child can watch gory films as well as
play violent video games without any adult supervision easily with no problem if he or she wanted to.
Trying to avoid this scenario from happening would not only be fatuous but also preposterous.
Advanced technology has facilitated the access to any sort of violent content for any individual, with
little to no boundaries. Violence manifested in the media has caused a negative chain of effects in our
society by promoting violence to children, changing our morality and encouraging violence in real
life.
With this object in mind, violence in the media is negatively influencing our society by constantly
promoting vicious behavior to children in ample forms, with no regulations what so ever. Violence has
become one of the most popular and most favorite form of entertainment for young people from these
past generations. Currently, video games like Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto are some of the
popular gruesome video games among today s youth. I have two younger siblings, who both happen to
enjoy playing these two video games. I ll sporadically play Mortal Kombat with my brother,

Advertisement Is The Super Bowl
An advertisement is a paid notice that tells people about a product or service(Advertisement). One of
the biggest platforms on TV for an advertisement is the Super Bowl. It is by far the most watched TV
event every year. A platform this big cost a lot of money. Super Bowl XLVII and Super Bowl XLVIII
cost on average $4 million for only thirty seconds of airtime (Schwartz). Toyota used this platform to
introduce the all new Prius 4 during Super Bowl 50 when they broadcasted their commercial, The
Longest Chase. This ninety second commercial cost Toyota a bunch of money, but, the company
believed that it was worth the price. This advertisement presents to us that the Hybrid group, like the
Prius, are the way to go now. And the car s power and performance are enough to turn any drive into
an event worth sharing with the entire world. This Toyota commercial uses reasoning (logos) and
emotion (pathos) to show why everyone should own the all new Prius 4. The advertisement begins
with four inept friends escaping a bank that they had just robbed. Once they get outside the building,
they soon learn that their original getaway car had been towed. They quickly slipped past the cops and
came across a Prius. With no hesitation, they take the car and leave behind a pile of cash for the
owner. They soon realize that the Prius has enough speed and power for them to outrun the cops. Soon
enough, the scary police chase turns into a joy ride. The friends narrowly escape the cops more than

The Use Of Qualitative Research Techniques For Treating...
After reviewing several studies a common use of qualitative research techniques focused on
developing understandings about fatigue on physicians in their real time environment and the
processes involved. The results from Dula s et al. (2001) study were astonishing (see Appendix A for
more information on the KAIT results). Of the 16 emergency physicians tested, KAIT scores showed a
significant difference in day shift and night shift emergency physicians. The conclusion was a decline
in cognitive performance after working five night shifts. Some legislation in New York was created for
residents who had been working 100 to 180 per week and an 18 year old died due to medical error.
Residents are only allowed to now work 80 hours a week, with no shift longer than 24 consecutive
hours (Eddy, 2005, p.177). The findings were that even with this legislation residents were still
working more than 95 hours per week. What good is legislation made to protect patients and
physicians, if it is not enforced. Another factor that was introduced in a review by Nimmo and
Huggard (2013), specifically focused on compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatisation, and secondary
traumatic stress. The emotional impact on emergency physicians based on the large amount of trauma
cases. The study used the following instruments for measuring fatigue, the Compassion Fatigue Self
Test (CFST), Compassion Satisfaction and Fatigue Test (CSFT), and Compassion Fatigue Scale

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Central Valley
The Central Valley is about 450 miles long and 60 miles wide. In a figurative way, it is like an empty
pool surrounded by the Sierra Nevada to the east, coastal ranges to the west, cascades to the north, and
transverse ranges to the south. The Central valley Geographic s feature allows its residents to
experience different climates throughout the year. The central Valley s residents depend on the water
from the Sierra Nevada and from its aquifer.
The central Valley s soil is some of the most fertile soils in the world. Seven of the Central Valley s
Counties rank as the top produce producers in the world. Rich minerals and sediments in the San
Joaquin soil allow yearly crops. The agricultural sector offers jobs to thousands of immigrants and
long term residents in California. As a result, towns like Arvin, Delano, Wasco, and Shafter continue
to grow. Most of the people working in the fields are Hispanic, and this is probably the main reason
that California has such a high Hispanic population.
Central Valley has its negative side also; air pollution is a big issue in the Valley. Many residents get
affected by the bad air and suffered from illness like asthma, bronchitis, nausea, eye problems,
headaches, valley fever, bronchitis and even birth defects. My son William has asthma, and he has
been hospitalized a couple of times. Thank God he has been doing better as a young adult, but he still

Romantic And Romanticism In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
There is nothing more important than a good, safe, secure home .There s no question that the
Victorians were advocates of this viewpoint. Creating a safe and righteous home was one of their most
important social values that took precedence over anything else. However, this moral belief falls short
in comparison to Bronte s Wuthering Heights. The novel generates irony and unfamiliarity because of
all that attention given to the two houses. One would expect the novel to be only about devotion to
home and that the focus is on domesticity, when in fact it was absent. The Heights, a house which
opens to the living room ,suggests that the novel s main concern is managing a well ordered home
while it turns out to be at odds with the domestic ideals.

The novel reveals elements of realism and romanticism which qualifies it as a hybrid. There are many
features in that novel that exemplify the Romantic period like the settings and the characters. Despite
the fact that the novel did not indicate a happy ending, it still delivers a romantic story that deals with
a strange, yet original love story of underlying human passion and untamed human nature, which is a
conspicuous Romantic effect. As we all know Romantics appreciate nature to a great extent, and
nature / landscapes in that novel are exclusively given the central scope of symbolism, where the
settings carry expressions of themes and emotions. Wuthering Heights in its gothic setting alone is a
feature of Romanticism. Whether it was the Moors, the Grange or even the Heights, each setting was
described explicitly in relation to the inhabitants and their feelings towards those places. For example
Catherine rejecting a Christian heaven and her longing to inhabit an earthly one which is Wuthering

Problems Associated With Ageing Human Skeletal Muscle
Quadriceps and Hamstring group of muscles play a very important role in everyday activities. These
group of muscles help us to walk, run, jump, squat etc1 Ageing however is an unavoidable
phenomenon. Aging is known to decrease muscular strength. (Grimby and Saltin,1983;Borges 1989)
.It is associated with increase in the subcutaneous fat, intramuscular fat and non muscle tissue.(Rice et
al). Ageing human skeletal muscle has shown increase in the proportion of type 2 fibers (glycolytic)
along with decrease in the contractile ability. On the other hand training has shown to improve the
strength in elderly (Annianson Gustafsson), 1981; Frontera et al 1990;C. L Rice et al). The muscle
weakness and wasting has been evaluated by dynamometer and compound ultrasound imaging,
Nuclear magnetic resonance etc.
One of the most common condition seen due to quadriceps weakness in old age is knee osteoarthritis.
The presence of this condition leads to pain , stiffness and reduction in range of motion. A study done
by Stephanie et al stated that reduction of muscle fiber and muscle size and increase in fat and
connective tissue is seen thus reducing the force generation capacity in old individuals.

Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Without the fire of anger, there would be no sparks of happiness. The theme of anger can be found in
the poems Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, and an untitled poem by
Alexander Bentley. The conflicting theme of Happiness can be found in the poem A Child s Laughter
by Philip E. Bentley. The poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas portrays
the theme of anger. A line from the poem shows anger, because of a particular word choice made by
the author. The author writes, Old age should burn and rave at close of day (Thomas 2). Dylan
Thomas incorporates the words burn and rave into this line. Both of these words signify rage and
madness, which are both related to anger. Another segment from Dylan Thomas s ... Show more

One way the poem portrays anger, is through its powerful word choice. One line of the poem states,
Burned my soul/ on your gasoline words (Bentley 1 2); and Burning hot embers/ fueled my angry
pride (Bentley 11 12). The word choosing in this stanza gives off an atmosphere of rage. The entire
poem has a common theme of fire, but these two stanzas hit the reader the most. This stanza involves
burning and gasoline, which represents rage. This represents anger, because often times, fire can be is
in synonymous to anger. This line portrays that, because it shows how when you throw gasoline onto a
fire, it doesn t stop it. In fact, it makes it grow. Another way that the poem portrays the theme of anger,
is how the powerful imagery dominates the reader s mind. Bentley writes, Burned my soul/ on your
gasoline words/ Combusted into flames/ like a fireworks show. These lines give the reader an image of
burning fire, the faintest whiffs of gasoline, and a searing pain in the heart. The last piece of textual
evidence that proves shows a portrayal of anger in Alexander Bentley s poem is in the subtle pattern in
the text. In every stanza of the poem, there is at least one word that can be relatable to anger. The
poem reads, Burned/ combusted/ bullet/ shattered/ losing/ embers/ darkened (Bentley

Mitsubishi Pajero
Good morning/afternoon. Buying a new product can be stressful at the best of times, but when the
product is a new car worth $70,000, this stress can become overwhelming. When our client, Mark,
came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to
either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the
liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a

per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will
drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000

Effects Of The Amistad Revolt
On July 2, 1839, 53 hostage Africans on board the Amistad, a slave ship, broke out of their chains and
snuck up to the primary deck, where they overpowered and killed two crewmembers and incapacitated
the rest. Having hence seized control of the ship, they endeavored to cruise back to their country, just
to be deluded into traveling north rather than east. Throughout the following two months, they went
around 1,400 miles from Cuba to Long Island, New York, until the point when the Naval force lifted
them up and re imprisoned them. The Amistad was not the only slave revolt, but one of the most
significant. This revolt was an integral part of slave history because it brought attention to the issue of
slavery, inspired many, and helped establish laws and court systems today.
This Revolt brought attention to the issue of slavery. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries,
approximatelyn expected 12 million Africans were persuasively dispatched over the Atlantic Sea to
the New World. Of those, no less than 1.5 million are said to have died before reaching shore. Many
states had made the importation of slaves illegal. However, since bondage itself stayed lawful in the

next destination. Upset that on his last week of deployment he was again tasked to go clear buildings.
Agitated at his current position, he was furthermore irritated that the team tasked to replace Alpha
team was late. Growing more and more impatient SPC Tate got in his vehicle and started listening to
music when he felt the truck start up and begin to roll out the gate. He drifted off to sleep and before
he knew it the convoy had reached it s destination. Every one assumes their positions, stacks the door,
and before you know if they ve cleared two buildings. A successful day of hard work, almost another
day down. He can taste it, one step closer to his goal of finally making it back on U.S. soil. His
euphoric daydream was interrupted with a loud BANG!! He realized that a solider from Alpha Team
has been injured by an IED and he quickly rushes to aid him and drag him into safety. He picks up the
soldier and rushes him back to the MRAP ripping off his vest and cutting off his shirt. SPC Tate
freezes in shock...HE was a SHE!!! So many thoughts ran through his head. How do I care for her ,
what is she doing here , she doesn t belong here , this would have never happened if she was a male .
All the training that he received suddenly became a blur. SPC Tate had never witnessed a female
soldier on the battlefield. He was used to them supporting the infantry being the cooks,

The Role Of Social Mobility In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is the opportunity of social mobility, however since the 1930s the dream has
been dead. The opportunity of social mobility is ultimately the mental image that is associated with
The American Dream. The dream has evolved slowly, eventually grinding to a halt over the past
century due to the financial changes that have continued to reform our nation s economy. In the
process of America developing, the dream became harder to grasp and the goal has become ever
harder to attain. While the dream used to be fairly practical, now it is in essence truly a dream. The
chances of obtaining the goal and moving classes, dropped miraculously in the past century. Using the
article The American Dream Is Leaving America and the Book The ... Show more content on

Jay Gatsby was in the pursuit of wealth even though he was born into a very poor family. His parents
were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people his imagination had never really accepted them as his
parents at all. (Fitzgerald, 104). In this quote you can see that Gatsby wasn t born into wealth, yet he
was able to move into the higher class achieving The American Dream. The class mobility was still
accessible at the time Fitzgerald wrote his book, and it continued to show in the character Gatsby.
Another example is when Fitzgerald was explaining the character of Nick. The Carraways are
something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we re descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch, but
the actual founder of my line was my grandfather s brother, who came here in fifty one, sent a
substitute to the Civil War, and started the wholesale hardware business that my father carries on to
day (Fitzgerald, 7). Fitzgerald shows that Nick s family actually achieved the American Dream of
wealth and respectability through hard work. This is yet another example of how Fitzgerald expressed
how the American Dream was still alive at the time of writing the

Modern Revolution Research Paper
Intro: The world has seen drastic changes throughout its history, from micro bacteria, dinosaurs, and
eventually humans. No change has been as large or as fast as the modern revolution. In the short time
of 200 years we have gone from a dark, electricity stripped world to a world were we can travel in
outer space, have instant connection from around the world, and extend the average life expectancy.
Although the modern revolution has been a dominantly positive force, it has its flaws and down sides.
Overall, the modern revolution has been a positive force on the world because of disease prevention,
complex inventions, and increased literacy.
Body Paragraphs:
Body Paragraph One: Disease Prevention, to begin, has been a positive force in the modern
revolution.
Many vaccines have been created in the past 200 years, increasing survival chances, and controlling
disease spread (Text 5). Most diseases that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mention connectivity and globalization. In 1800 we had no internet, television, or even electricity. 218
years later, we have machines that can almost job we tell them to, or tablets that have more power then
the computer on Apollo 11 did. All of these inventions hap everyday human life, imagine your day
without a plastic, or computers. Almost everything we use has plastic or a computer, maybe even both.
As one may see, all of the complex inventions we see today is a positive impact of the modern
revolution. A positive impact of the modern revolution, equally important, is the rise of literacy all
across the world. In 1800, only 10 percent of the world could read, compared to over 80 percent
now(Text 3). Even though literacy rates and numbers are growing, there are still many places across
the world where literacy is uncommon, or women are often illiterate(Text 3). A couple more sentences

Position Paper On Abortion
The topic of abortion has become an issue today in the U.S. They have the authority to rule on
whether laws governing abortion are Constitutional or not. The Legislative Branch is, for the most
part, in favor of legalizing abortion because the Senate and the House of Representatives all want
women and fetuses to be protected. The Executive Branch favors abortion because they feel no child
should be terminated in the late stage of a pregnancy. I will now explain how each branch played a
role in making abortion legal under the constitution. First, the judicial branch has seen that laws
blocking abortions are unconstitutional. The case Roe v Wade was the landmark case that contributed
to women being able to have abortions. The United States Supreme Court came down with the
decision of allowing a woman to terminate her pregnancy. The decision was based upon the
Fourteenth Amendment which refers to privacy rights. Also, a judge, Myron H. Thompson, has
declared the Women s Health and Safety Act unconstitutional. The Women s Health and Safety Act
was related to the doctors performing abortions. In the case Planned Parenthood Southeast v. Strange
the right to an abortion is constitutional like any other due process. However, the legislative branch
finds having an abortion unconstitutional in certain circumstances. As early as 1981, the abortion
debate shifted from the courts to Congress. This is when legislative hearings were held on human life

The Life of Carl Friedrich Gauss
Mathematicians have always formed a very important role in history. From the Greeks to the modern
era, mathematicians have made spectacular discoveries and critical contributions to the world of
mathematics. Because of great mathematicians, the human race is exploring and discovering unknown
boundaries of space and technology. The life of Carl Friedrich Gauss was full of phenomenal
adventures and discoveries. He was born in Brunswick, Germany on April 30th, 1777 to poor working
class parents. Gauss father was known as a hard worker and an honest man but heavily discouraged
Gauss from attending school to follow a family trade. On the other hand, Gauss mother and uncle
recognized his remarkable intelligence at an early age. Gauss intelligence was so powerful that one
day at the age ten solved the problem that his arithmetic instructor gave him with one number, 5,050.
The simple math problem for Gauss was to write all whole numbers between one and 100 and add up
their sum. Furthermore, he first went to college at the age of fourteen and was financially sustained by
Carl Wilhelm Ferdinand who was the Duke of Brunswick. While studying language at Caroline
College, he discovered that a regular polygon with seventeen sides could be drawn with a compass
and a straight edge. He was so impressed with his discovery that he turned to study mathematics.
Mathematics composed a vital part of the life of Friedrich Gauss. All of his contributions and
advancements were so

Dependency on Technology in a Modern World
Dependency on Technology in a Modern World
Introduction
Technology has virtually defined the human condition since the early stages in the species evolution.
First there were rudimentary tools such as arrows and hammering utensils which allowed humans a far
great range in manipulating their environment. Further developments such as fire, clothing, and shelter
and so on changed the way humans lived and every aspect of their lives. Today s societies have more
advanced tools such as a laptop, IPod, GPS, cell phone, a seemingly infinite number of other gizmos
and gadgets that shape their lives. This essay will question whether these devices will add to our
wellbeing and improve our lives or if the development of technology has hit a threshold point in which
further developments are of little practical value or even of negative consequence.
Communications
Of all the advancements in technology from its inception, the advancement in communication has to
be one of the most revolutionary forces that have come about. People now can communicate with
nearly anyone else in the world for very little cost and instantaneously through a variety of mediums.
People are free to move around the globe and never lose contact with the people that they care about.
Students can live video chat with other student half way around the world and can even form
interactive classrooms with a wide range of participants. Professors can record a lecture that can be
hosted on a site for anyone to

  • 2. The Degradation Of Coastal Wetlands Introduction There is rapid destruction of salt marshes and wetlands due to dredging operations and filling. In Boston, almost eighty one percent of the salt marshes have been lost. For the Canadian Maritimes, almost sixty four percent of the coastal wetlands have disappeared due to agricultural reclamation. Approximately, ninety three percent coastal marshes have been lost along the Pacific coast in the United States. In addition, there is a degradation of coastal wetland due to invasive species, nutrient enrichment, and storm water discharge. It is critical to preserve and restore coastal salt marshes so that carbon can be sequestered, and fish and bird populations can be preserved (Roman et. al. 2012). It is estimated that coastal wetlands are being lost at the rate of two times the rate at which they are being restored. Salt marshes are found amid human developments and coastal areas and play an important role in protecting these communities from the threats posed by being close to the coast. Depending on the density of vegetation, production of biomass, and the size of the marsh, salt marshes provide many critical ecosystem services, such as, stabilization of the shoreline, weakening of the waves, and reduction of floodwater (Shepard et. al. 2011). Wetlands include boreal peatlands and tropical mangroves. They provide critical ecosystem services by acting as reserves for carbon, conserving biodiversity, purifying water, enhancing fish production, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Globalization Vs Globalization Twenty first century is defined by globalization, something Thomas L. Friedman unquestionably agrees with in his book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty first Century. Globalization can immediately be correlated with businesses, but such should not be the case in this circumstance. Globalization, as a matter of fact, also takes its effect on cultures worldwide. For example, thanks to globalization, western cultures are able to perceive the cultures of other countries around the world, some of which are found to be exotic. However, when this occurs, there is a certain concern that must be brought up: the issue with looking at the world from a western lens. Chandra Talpade Mohanty writes in her work Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses that the definition of colonization she wishes to invoke here is a predominantly discursive one, focusing on a certain mode of appropriation and codification of scholarship and knowledge about women in the third world by particular analytic categories employed in specific writings on the subject which take as their referent feminist interests as they have been articulated in the U.S. and Western Europe. It is worth mentioning that the safety measure of identifying the lens through which one looks at another culture or subject is a necessity. I, for example, can talk about the Western culture and the Indian culture without such notice because I have been indigenously part of both. However, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Moon Landing Was A Hoax Essay What if the first moon landing by America was all a hoax? Three American Astronauts named Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. These men flew on the Apollo 11 and are famous for being the first men to step on the moon. One of the biggest conspiracy theories is that the whole 1969 Moon landing was all faked and filmed in a studio in Hollywood, California. The Moon landing in 1969 supposedly did not happen and there is documentation evidence, experts testimony, and physical evidence to prove that it did not happen. There is physical evidence that can prove on how the moon landing is a hoax. One of the popular evidences that it is a hoax is that in the videos and pictures of the men on the moon, in the distance of space there is absolutely no stars in sight. The photographs on the moon don t show any stars in the sky, (5 Goofy Moon landing Hoax Theories, 2017 p.30). That is why a lot of people believed this was faked and filmed in a studio. The second piece of physical evidence is how when they stuck the American flag in the ground it was waving like there is wind in space. There s no wind on the moon, so how come the flag was blowing in a breeze? (5 Goofy Moon landing Hoax Theories, 2017 p.30). On the moon there is no atmosphere like here on earth so there can t be any reasonable explanation as to why the flags moving but NASA has tried. The final part of my physical evidence is one of the most famous. In a picture from the astronauts there is a moon rock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Unknown Of D Day Matthew Fear Ms. Williams English 1 S1 18 April 2016 The Unknown of D Day June 6th, 1944 will be a day forever remembered in history as the beginning of the end for Nazi Control in Western Europe. D Day, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, was a combined effort of allied forces consisting of Americans, British, Belgium, Canadian, French, Danish, and Norwegian military branches to free Europe from notorious German control. Many questions involving D Day have yet to be answered, such as the ones to be listed. How did the French Underground/French Resistance assist in the invasion? Why were paratroopers crucial to the push inland from the beaches? Why were the German Panzer tanks kept in reserve when they could ve pushed the allied advance back? What were the tactical failures committed by the Germans? And what was the aftermath for the French following the invasion? Only a small amount of information has shed light on the topic of the German s tactical blunders that occurred on and around D Day. As stated by historical documents collected by Cornelius Ryan, who was an Irish author who followed allied units in Europe and the Pacific during WWII, And so it was that, one by one, senior officers from Rommel down had left the front on the very eve of the battle. All of them had reasons, but it was almost as thought a capricious fate had manipulated their departure. (Ryan 106). The Santa Ana Wind Linda Thomas and Joan Didion are both natives of Southern California and wrote about the Santa Ana, a wind that blows from northeast to Southern California every year. She has been writing poems, stories and essays for 25 years. Her writing has appeared in numerous print journals like American Poetry Review. Didion s tone was serious, ominous, and dark, and was very different from Thomas s tone which was more positive. Although acknowledging the destructive nature of the fires caused by the Santa Ana winds, Thomas generally talked about positive results of the fires. She describes the amazing sight of the fire as she watches the flames lick up a hillside and ends the essay by reminding the reader that the chaparral will return. By this, she means that many of the plants in chaparral country need the heat of the flames to reproduce, so within a few weeks, new plants will rise from the ashes. The fire also helps get rid of the dead plants that need to be burnt so they can get out of the way for new plants to come in. Didion has a very different tone regarding the winds. She describes the various hints of change with dark words. To her, there is an eerie absence of surf and the heat was surreal, instead of it simply being hot with no waves in the water. The author particularly chooses words with creepy connotations to make the reader feel a similar feeling to the uneasiness that the Southern California natives feel. These contrasting tones make the authors opposing views on the winds very evident. Both writers use immense amounts of imagery to describe the Santa Ana Winds. Since Santa Ana is believed to be a terrifying wind, each author used imagery to either prove or refute the terror. Thomas proved the beauty in Southern California that occurred because of ... • 11. Dna And Tissue Extraction Kit Essay In this study we extensively extracted deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from an unidentified segment of flesh distributed amongst different lab groups. In order to do this, we dissolved the tissues and extracted only the genetic material desired using the Qiagen DNeasy Blood Tissue extraction kit. We then used forensic methods of genome identification in order to determine the genus and species of the animal These methods include gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction, and Cycle Sequencing Reactions. After isolating the DNA, we gathered electropherograms from the CSRs to determine the nitrogenous base frequencies of the extracted sample using a genome alignment software program called GENEIOUS. Using this aligned data, we compared the results to the online genome index GenBank using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). After analyzing the results of the alignment programs and the genome index, I determined the genus and species of my group s sample as being Crotalus durissus, a pit viper located in Southern and Central America. This data was determined with an E value of 2 x 10^ 5 and was taken from the mitochondrial gene with a 97% accuracy match out of 187 nitrogenous base groups. • 15. Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus Nathalie Dao Med 2056 VN FT030 Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper Ms. Annabelle Anglo 3/16/2015 EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies. Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the following three factors. Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the glucose into the tissues and cells. Incorrect glucose production in the liver. The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are: The three P s  Polyuria Urinating often and having to urinate frequently at night  Polydipsia Always feeling very ... In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all MTV crowd / into silence (Villanueva 20 23). While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. • 21. Relationship Between Science And Religion The relationship between science and religion is an arguably rigid one, the two topics presently posing contrasting ideas in modern society. However, this relationship has been varied over the course of time, in particular the nineteenth century. We can put forth the argument that it was not necessarily as simple as the two being mutually exclusive concepts that continuously opposed each other; rather the two held a complicated relationship. These apparent conflicts between science and religion can often be resultant of more complex debates, for example concerning political power. It can also be seen that there was a continually shifting boundary between the two subjects, making it merely reductionist to say the two were in conflict. Science and religion were in conflict to the extent that both these concepts were adapting to the contemporary world, sometimes causing them to clash. During the nineteenth century, religion still remained a prevalent influence in Britain, from which we can argue that there was no widespread conflict caused by the sciences. Britain was a predominantly protestant country, with an estimation of attendance being made by Dr Chalmers, from which he concluded that five eighths, or sixty two and a half per cent., of the people of a town might attend religious services. The period also saw the revival of the evangelical movement, from which people believed that religion should inform every aspect of daily life, and we must spend our lives ... A meme is an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture (Blackmore, 7). Blackmore describes this as singing Happy Birthday to someone or a handshake could be a meme. A meme is a form of imitation. I say a form of it because Blackmore points out some differences between the two. The idea of memes is criticized by scientists because they do not feel like memes are able to comply with the scientific method and prove to be a theory in the ways that they see fit. Throughout the book Blackmore makes valid points about how memes have coexisted with evolution, which indeed would make the memetics a science. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Charles Darwin s Theory of natural selection, creatures evolve because adaptations in the environment change and the offspring of these species survive and better adapt, which is evolution. Blackmore then refers to the evolutionary algorithm as described by Dennett. Evolution in general in the science world relies on three requisites variation, selection, and heredity. The algorithm solely relies on something being copied and this is referred to by Dawkins, as a replicator. Specifically, a replicator relies on something being copied. Doing that is the only true way to understand that culters way of life and to truley gane insight about it. • 25. Soft Media And Soft News Media Essay Just how influential are soft news outlets in informing the american people? I approached this topic with an interest in the answer because soft news media is one of the early ways that I was introduced to politics. It is through this medium of media that I have seen many people increase their political participation. There have been some studies in this topic but I want to see how prevalent these studies are to today s soft news media. One of the more useful resources that I had while writing this paper is that of Matthew A. Baum. He has written many studies regarding soft news in the media throughout the years. I believe that soft news outlets are a great way for the politically uninformed to become better informed rather than watching the more hard news outlets. What does the term soft news actually mean? Well one great way of defining it is as a style and genre that blurs the line between information and entertainment. (Lisa Mills Brown 2014) A few examples of some of the more well known soft news programs are The Daily Show and The Tonight Show hosted by a variety of anchors. In my opinion, what makes these shows so popular is how each show is able to combine jokes and lighthearted humor to news that would otherwise be serious. Accordingly, many people probably feel the same way. By moving away from the more traditional hard news, people are probably looking more towards soft news media as a way to get their daily political news. With a variety of different ... A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes. Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts and microbursts. Violence has been apart of our world ever since the beginning of time, and therefore has become a part of our daily lives. Acts of violence are ubiquitous and can be witnessed in myriad forms; whether it s on the news, social media, films, shows, video games and even cartoons. A young child can watch gory films as well as play violent video games without any adult supervision easily with no problem if he or she wanted to. Trying to avoid this scenario from happening would not only be fatuous but also preposterous. Advanced technology has facilitated the access to any sort of violent content for any individual, with little to no boundaries. Violence manifested in the media has caused a negative chain of effects in our society by promoting violence to children, changing our morality and encouraging violence in real life. With this object in mind, violence in the media is negatively influencing our society by constantly promoting vicious behavior to children in ample forms, with no regulations what so ever. After reviewing several studies a common use of qualitative research techniques focused on developing understandings about fatigue on physicians in their real time environment and the processes involved. The results from Dula s et al. (2001) study were astonishing (see Appendix A for more information on the KAIT results). Of the 16 emergency physicians tested, KAIT scores showed a significant difference in day shift and night shift emergency physicians. The conclusion was a decline in cognitive performance after working five night shifts. Some legislation in New York was created for residents who had been working 100 to 180 per week and an 18 year old died due to medical error. Residents are only allowed to now work 80 hours a week, with no shift longer than 24 consecutive hours (Eddy, 2005, p.177). The findings were that even with this legislation residents were still working more than 95 hours per week. What good is legislation made to protect patients and physicians, if it is not enforced. • 37. Romantic And Romanticism In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights There is nothing more important than a good, safe, secure home .There s no question that the Victorians were advocates of this viewpoint. Creating a safe and righteous home was one of their most important social values that took precedence over anything else. However, this moral belief falls short in comparison to Bronte s Wuthering Heights. The novel generates irony and unfamiliarity because of all that attention given to the two houses. One would expect the novel to be only about devotion to home and that the focus is on domesticity, when in fact it was absent. The Heights, a house which opens to the living room ,suggests that the novel s main concern is managing a well ordered home while it turns out to be at odds with the domestic ideals. 2 Emily Bronte spent her early years in the Romantic period, and adulthood ... • 47. The Role Of Social Mobility In The Great Gatsby The American Dream is the opportunity of social mobility, however since the 1930s the dream has been dead. The opportunity of social mobility is ultimately the mental image that is associated with The American Dream. The dream has evolved slowly, eventually grinding to a halt over the past century due to the financial changes that have continued to reform our nation s economy. In the process of America developing, the dream became harder to grasp and the goal has become ever harder to attain. While the dream used to be fairly practical, now it is in essence truly a dream. The chances of obtaining the goal and moving classes, dropped miraculously in the past century. Using the article The American Dream Is Leaving America and the Book The ... His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. (Fitzgerald, 104). In this quote you can see that Gatsby wasn t born into wealth, yet he was able to move into the higher class achieving The American Dream. The class mobility was still accessible at the time Fitzgerald wrote his book, and it continued to show in the character Gatsby. Another example is when Fitzgerald was explaining the character of Nick. The Carraways are something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we re descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch, but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather s brother, who came here in fifty one, sent a substitute to the Civil War, and started the wholesale hardware business that my father carries on to day (Fitzgerald, 7). Fitzgerald shows that Nick s family actually achieved the American Dream of wealth and respectability through hard work. This is yet another example of how Fitzgerald expressed how the American Dream was still alive at the time of writing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Modern Revolution Research Paper Intro: The world has seen drastic changes throughout its history, from micro bacteria, dinosaurs, and eventually humans. No change has been as large or as fast as the modern revolution. In the short time of 200 years we have gone from a dark, electricity stripped world to a world were we can travel in outer space, have instant connection from around the world, and extend the average life expectancy. Although the modern revolution has been a dominantly positive force, it has its flaws and down sides. Overall, the modern revolution has been a positive force on the world because of disease prevention, complex inventions, and increased literacy. Body Paragraphs: Body Paragraph One: Disease Prevention, to begin, has been a positive force in the modern revolution. • 50. Position Paper On Abortion The topic of abortion has become an issue today in the U.S. They have the authority to rule on whether laws governing abortion are Constitutional or not. The Legislative Branch is, for the most part, in favor of legalizing abortion because the Senate and the House of Representatives all want women and fetuses to be protected. The Executive Branch favors abortion because they feel no child should be terminated in the late stage of a pregnancy. I will now explain how each branch played a role in making abortion legal under the constitution. First, the judicial branch has seen that laws blocking abortions are unconstitutional. The case Roe v Wade was the landmark case that contributed to women being able to have abortions. The United States Supreme Court came down with the decision of allowing a woman to terminate her pregnancy. The decision was based upon the Fourteenth Amendment which refers to privacy rights. Also, a judge, Myron H. Thompson, has declared the Women s Health and Safety Act unconstitutional. The Women s Health and Safety Act was related to the doctors performing abortions. In the case Planned Parenthood Southeast v. Strange the right to an abortion is constitutional like any other due process. However, the legislative branch finds having an abortion unconstitutional in certain circumstances. As early as 1981, the abortion debate shifted from the courts to Congress. This is when legislative hearings were held on human life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Life of Carl Friedrich Gauss Mathematicians have always formed a very important role in history. From the Greeks to the modern era, mathematicians have made spectacular discoveries and critical contributions to the world of mathematics. Because of great mathematicians, the human race is exploring and discovering unknown boundaries of space and technology. The life of Carl Friedrich Gauss was full of phenomenal adventures and discoveries. He was born in Brunswick, Germany on April 30th, 1777 to poor working class parents. Gauss father was known as a hard worker and an honest man but heavily discouraged Gauss from attending school to follow a family trade. On the other hand, Gauss mother and uncle recognized his remarkable intelligence at an early age. Gauss intelligence was so powerful that one day at the age ten solved the problem that his arithmetic instructor gave him with one number, 5,050. The simple math problem for Gauss was to write all whole numbers between one and 100 and add up their sum. Furthermore, he first went to college at the age of fourteen and was financially sustained by Carl Wilhelm Ferdinand who was the Duke of Brunswick. While studying language at Caroline College, he discovered that a regular polygon with seventeen sides could be drawn with a compass and a straight edge. He was so impressed with his discovery that he turned to study mathematics. Mathematics composed a vital part of the life of Friedrich Gauss. All of his contributions and advancements were so ... • 52. Dependency on Technology in a Modern World Dependency on Technology in a Modern World Introduction Technology has virtually defined the human condition since the early stages in the species evolution. First there were rudimentary tools such as arrows and hammering utensils which allowed humans a far great range in manipulating their environment. Further developments such as fire, clothing, and shelter and so on changed the way humans lived and every aspect of their lives. Today s societies have more advanced tools such as a laptop, IPod, GPS, cell phone, a seemingly infinite number of other gizmos and gadgets that shape their lives. This essay will question whether these devices will add to our wellbeing and improve our lives or if the development of technology has hit a threshold point in which further developments are of little practical value or even of negative consequence. Communications Of all the advancements in technology from its inception, the advancement in communication has to be one of the most revolutionary forces that have come about. People now can communicate with nearly anyone else in the world for very little cost and instantaneously through a variety of mediums. People are free to move around the globe and never lose contact with the people that they care about. Students can live video chat with other student half way around the world and can even form interactive classrooms with a wide range of participants.
