Amistad Field Trip
To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all
written requirements because I believed the boat was small and cramped. Jackie, who was the
instructor of the Amistad, who spoke at Options, gave us background history about the boat. It was
from this background history that I interpreted the boat was small and cramped. Even though I had
not seen the boat in person, I believed it was tiny and restricted.
My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin
offered me information about who was going on the trip, the food that was being ordered, and
staff that were going. The Options staff that were traveling to see the ship were my teachers. My
parents persuaded me by stating that this might be the only time I see a piece of history like this

three year old daughter. I observed them for one hour over three weeks, in the evening to fit into

My chosen scene from the film Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, is the scene
where Andy escapes from the prison. The scene begins with the guards discovering Andy has
escaped and transitions into a flashback of how Andy plotted and executed his escape. Key film
techniques in the film are the uses of camera shots/movement, sound, dialogue and symbols. All of
these techniques create an intense atmosphere and draw attention to the hidden meanings and
messages present in this scene and the filmitself, such as what the rocks and posters mean to Andy
on a deeper meaning, outside of just being a distraction. The camera shots and movement in the
film are primarily used to emphasize how characters are feeling, highlighting things that are
important to both Andy and the audience, and to keep the pace of the film. Close ups in this scene
are used to reveal the strong emotions felt by the characters. After the opening of the scene we
see a close up of Red looking to Any s cell. The director does this to show Red s profound concern
for Andy, as it is implied earlier on in the film, when Andy is in his scene holding a length of

In our modern world one of our biggest problems is food, or rather a lack of food. To combat this
problem Quorn was developed in 1925. However Quorn only recently became easily accessible to
South Africans. What I aim to achieve with this project is to establish whether Mycoproteins are
the best way forward. WHAT IS MYCOPROTEIN
Mycoproteins are derived from the fungus Fusarium venenatum . This fungus is grown in a
fermentation vat filled with glucose syrup and minerals and vitamins. To maintain growth oxygen
is pumped in, carbon dioxide is removed and the vat is kept at a temperature between 350C to
420C. To form the all important protein, nitrogen is consistently added to the fungus. The result of
all this optimization is that the fungus can double its mass every five hours.
However even with this fast production rate the fungus must be dried to ~10% water, this was the
main cost in the production of other single cell proteins. Of the dry mass of the fungus
approximately 48% is protein with the remainder being fat, carbohydrates and cell wall. Currently
the best single cell protein production system is unibio s u loop technology which converts natural
gas into a highly concentrated, 71%, protein product. The mycoprotein used in Quorn was chosen
above the natural gas system because the hyphae in the fungus are similar in length and width to

Because I am an Independent student and I provide everything for myself I tend to feel entitled
when it comes to certain things within my family. When I get around these fourth graders and
listen to their problems and frustration I realize that my problems are not merely as frustrating than
what they have to go through at the ages of nine and ten. Although I am not majoring in any child
development or education, I feel that the lessons I have learned and the patience that I have been
taught from them will help me when I study International business and business management.
Both of my majors are ones where it is important to interact with every type of person regardless
of age, gender, and sexuality. Fourth graders are a tough crowd to please but knowing that I can
adapt to any kind of person will give me the confidence I need in my field of
