Receiver Of Memory In The Giver, By Lois Lowry
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Giver is a Utopian and Dystopian fiction ; Meaning that the book starts off in a community where
everything is idealistic yet as the story progresses, the setting appears to be an environmentally
degraded one. In this book, there is a boy named Jonas who lives in a community where everyone is
assigned a role at Twelve . Jonas is selected for the role Receiver of memory and receives the
memories of the past through his training to become the Receiver. During his training, he receives
memories that reveal the truth about his community. Jonas dislikes the fact that his community is
hidden from the truth and decides to change it by leaving so that since he is gone, all the memories of
pain, color, love and choices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He passed through forests, rivers, and snow which he only saw in his memories. He finally
experienced it himself. He travelled as far as he could trying to find a new community he could live in.
The community he saw was one he recalled from one of the memories he received. Jonas stared at the
neighbourhood decorated with colorful lights with the snow falling and the people singing. The
memories drifted as he came closer to the neighborhood which meant that the memories were slowly

Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third Essays
Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third
In the play Richard III , Richard s trickery and manipulation ultimately leads to his downfall. His
goals are based on what he can get from others and how they can help him, not on helping himself.
This paper shows how Richard uses his skills of trickery and manipulation to not only move up on the
hierarchy, but to actually get elected king. He uses his trickery to get Anne his wife to help move up
his position on the hierarchy; he uses his trickery to get elected and to get his men to fight for him and
not for the better of the country.
Throughout the play Richard uses his trickery to persuade people to see things his way. In his
conversation with Anne, he makes her believe that her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Making Anne believe him was easy due to his skills to trick and manipulate others into thinking his
way. During the whole play Richard s evil ways are easy to see for the reader, but for other characters
in the play it was not so easy. He tricked and persuaded them to elect him king without even
mentioning it. When there was no one else before him on the hierarchy he had them believe he was a
holy man that was not suitable for the throne. This was all a disguise for them to just hand over the
throne and practically beg him to be king. This is best shown in the conversation between Richard,
Buckingham, Catesby, Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and citizens when Richard tells them Alas, why would
you heap this care on me? / I am unfit for state and majesty. / I do beseech you take it not amiss, / I
cannot nor I will not yield to you. (Act III, Scene vii p.145) Here Richard is using reverse psychology
to make them think he was such a humble man. When actually he is a power hungry and very
conceited man; he only does things when the outcome benefits him. He doesn t care about others, he
represents everything a king should go against: greed, manipulation, and gaining power. In Richard s
last battle he makes his men believe Richmond and Richmond s men are bad by tricking them. His
men do not follow him because they trust him, but rather, they follow him because they are
manipulated

Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are
important works that should be considered when studying medieval literature. They both portray the
style and structure of medieval romance. They also tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his
knights, as well as share the same characters of King Arthur and Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go
over these works and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time.
There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval times, some of
which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and politics. For example, the French
invasion of England, known as the Norman Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At
first, England was ruled by the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though
they did not write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not considered
appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be known as Middle English.
This became the language they used to write, and the act of writing itself became more abundant.
Moreover, the conquest resulted in an increasing tension between England and France. This tension is
apparent in many works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir
Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. Also, Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight has roots

La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis
Here, the poet implies the concept of the life absurdity through using special grammar structures in
order to show trivia and the insignificance of living. As a result of the conditions of the world and the
fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all things
have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including the world.

While Khayyam has a negative and pessimistic viewpoint to the life in some of his ruba is, on the
whole, he comes to terms with life as it is rather than exhausting himself in the futile quest for the
meaning of life and the world. It should be considered that Khayyam was not an illiterate person. He
was a great mathematician and an astronomer who knew a lot about the space and the position of
human beings in the world. In this sense, he as a scholar felt nothingness in the huge area of the
existence and being. Consequently, Khayyam as an active nihilist prefers living even in a purposeless
world rather than committing suicide. He prescribes a general prescription for his fellowmen. One
which motivates them to live but not to think deeply about the existence since it will deteriorate a
common person s life because he will be unable to understand and justifies his presence on the Earth
which can lead to chronic feelings of emptiness and in its extremist form to committing suicide. For
Khayyam, life is enjoyment and carpe diem, which means seizing the day , because you don t know
whether you will be alive tomorrow or not. His idea is that now that we are here and we don t know
anything about our future and we can t change our past, let s live in the moment and be happy. To

Radiotherapy Vs Chemotherapy Essay
In our body we have normal cells that send signals to every cell all the time and our normal cells obey
what the signals are saying. Normal cells know when they have reached their limit and when it is time
to die or to do something to themselves or to others. On the other hand, we have cancer cells, they
override the normal signaling system. For example, cancer cells do not stop dividing and growing
when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a tumor that is
growing. My point is that cancer cells grow and divide in a manner that you are not able to control,
they would invade normal tissues, organs and eventually spreading throughout the body. Cancer cells
lost their control of growth and it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To treat cancer or to remove doctors and scientist use surgery, chemotherapy (drugs), various types of
radiotherapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy might be used to destroy leftover cancer cells and
prevent the cancer from growing back. The exact treatment that will be used depends on like the type
of tumor and the stage of the disease or other things to take into account. Scientists and researchers are
always trying to find new ways to limit the growth, spread, and kill of cancer cells. Most of our
population do not know exactly what cancer is and how it works. I highly suggest that we need to
educate our population with the definition and show them how cancer cells works. In my case, if it
was not for my biology classes I would not have learned how cancer cells works nor the definition.
Cancer cells are really important since they can spread, get to the point of stopping the function of
other cells, killing other cells and finalizing with death or stopping a function in our body. It is
important to know about cancer cells because when you are learning about them you are also learning
about how your cells work and how they function. If they know about this particular topic our
community would be highly educated with not only cancer cells, also with many other diseases that
are associated with

A Guidance Philosophy Statement
A Guidance Philosophy Statement(s): I believe that the purpose and challenge of guidance is to help
the child in the developing process of self control and responsibility in practice. Positive, strong
relationships between adults and children are key to a child s social and emotional development. It is
very difficult to build any relationship without specific purpose and understanding of child
development, without partnerships with family and staff s interactions. Teacher largely combines,
models and directs all of these components for better assisting to the child and his/her family.
Children are the future adults. I belie they not only listen to what we tell them (guide them), but also
look for our actions. We cannot demand respect from children, if we going to treat or guide them
without respect for their rights. Also, any guide techniques will not work without:
Desire to understand a child and situation Listening skills
The ability to get to his/her level Partnership with family

I believe that is a great object to represent the tools of guiding behavior in regards to self regulation
process. A mirror is reflecting the one who looks into it, and those who may be next to the person. For
the children it is an amazing tool, which allows them to see the results of their appropriate or mistaken
behavior. For the each parent a child is a reflection of himself or herself in the small version. For the
teachers, kids are also a reflection of all of the techniques, methods and knowledge. It is not just one
image of the child for all of them. Each of us uses the mirror constantly, repeatedly, and it shows that
it is impossible to remember even our own reflection in the mirror. Similarly, the process of guiding
young children, it is not something that happened once and happened in one particular way, we use the
guidance as a mirror and improve it

Hamlet And Oedipus Comparison
ll of the tragic heroes have unfortunate things in common. They all have certain qualities that make
them a tragic hero. Hamartia is a required trait for the person to be considered a tragic hero. Also,
hubris is needed to complete the tragic hero. The thing is there are multiple definitions of a tragedy.
People believe that regular people are more capable of partaking in a tragedy. Hamlet and Oedipus are
examples of the traditional tragedy. Hamlet s actions were all voluntary. He knew what he was doing
and the consequences. Oedipus suffered from fate of his family. He didn t realize exactly what he was
doing or the consequences. Oedipus is the truest tragic hero according to the traditional definition of a
tragedy, the downfall of his royalty and uncontrollable fate is a perfect example.
There are two definitions for a tragedy. One of them is the traditional version. Aristotle is the creator
of the elements of tragedy. He came up with a basis to analyze tragedies. There are six different parts
to a tragedy. They are plot, character, diction, thought, spectacle and song. Plot is the order of events
in the story. Plot is a huge deal when dealing with tragedies. Character is the people who act in the
play or story. Tragic heroes are a main part of the story. Everything is based around the tragic hero and
his downfall. The hero always has a flaw that characterizes his unfortunate events. Fall of hubris is a
major key in the tragic hero s traits. This means he or she has excessive pride. This restricts them from
getting help from people occasionally. Also, the main character is affected with hamartia. They are
completely ignorant towards certain important facts throughout their downfall. Which causes terrible
things to happen right in front of them without them noticing. Thought is referring to what the tragic
hero is thinking throughout the plot. They express this through lengthy conversations and soliloquies.
Their soliloquies are very popular and usually carry a heavy amount of information about the
character that the audience needs to know. Diction is the vocabulary the characters use. It is important
to know the kind of connotation the words relate to. The characters express their feelings through

King Jr Beliefs
A nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character
(King 18). That was the dream of many black Americans. Many great leaders chose to speak out about
their lack of rights. Some adopted the route of trying to change people s views through peace some
through violence. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. chose to follow the nonviolent path. Dr. King brought
many together for peace, he inspired many people throughout America, and he and his dream still play
a role in our daily lives.
King followed his religious teachings of nonviolence in his civil rights campaign. He used words

relate to the Declaration of Independence When it says that all men are created equal. Today,
everyone, black, white, yellow, male, or female, enjoy equal rights. I believe that unarmed truth and
unconditional love will have the final word in reality. (King 4). Unconditional love for all peoples is a
great quality that King had, and many people today have modeled after. When you suddenly find your
tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why
she cannot go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears
welling up in her little eyes when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children (King 12).
Now, all children are permitted in amusement parks. Many black children also couldn t get an
education. Today everyone from kindergarten to twelfth grade is entitled to acquire a free education. I

Macbeth s Order Of The Universe
Salma Bora
Mrs.Gritte
Pre AP English I
09 March 2017 Macbeth s Order of the Universe
Elizabethan ideologies are based on the Great Chain of Being . The people believe that in an ordered
universe, everything is ranked in order of their superiority. This order coincides with all religious
beliefs as well as the political system. All inhabitants of earth are ranked in the following order: God,
angels, king, man, animals, plants, inorganic material, and lastly, chaos. The king is similar to a God
on earth, so any ill willed acts against the king is a direct attack on God. In The Tragedy of Macbeth
written by William Shakespeare, there is a breakdown of order throughout Scotland when Macbeth
kills King Duncan. This destruction is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, just by wanting to become more manly when she was meant to be a woman by God, Lady
Macbeth is affecting the order of the universe even before the murder even takes place. You lack the
season of all natures, sleep (3.4.140). Sleeping is essential for maintaining health, but since Macbeth
committed unnatural acts of murder against the innocent, his health, along with mentality, is at a risky
state a curse from nature itself all caused by disrupted sleep. Not only is his crime evident in the order
of the universe, but also with his internal order.
The killing of Duncan leads to a very bizarre switch in roles within nature. A falcon, tow ring in her
pride of place,/Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed, (2.4.13 14). This reversal brings
discomfort, since even the animal kingdom is starting to be affected by the unravelling of chaos. An
even worse example, King Duncan s horses, Beauteous and swift, the minions of their race,/Turn d
wild in nature, broke their stalls, flung out,/War with mankind. (2.4.15 16,18). There is nothing a king
trusts more than his valiant steed, and similarly both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were trusted vassals
of King Duncan, who was oblivious of their traitorous nature. However, even the most trusty steed can
turn his back on his master upon smelling the faintest scent of fear. Thus, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
s thirst for power filled to the extent where they were willing to overthrow their master.

Behavioral Aspects of Project Management
Behavioral Aspects of Project Management
Project management is much more than creating a work breakdown structure and tracking a plan. The
hardest part for many is the personal side of project management. In this paper, we will explore how
the organizational culture of a company and basic human behavior influence the success or failure of
projects. In conducting this exploration, we will envision ourselves in the following scenario, and
address the issues presented.
You have just been brought in on a project, as the previous project manager has left. The project is
behind schedule and over budget, and several key team members have quit in disgust, plummeting the
morale of the rest of the team, who fear they will have to do the ... Show more content on

The higher the saboteur scores on the power meter the greater the chance that the project will fail, but
no matter what the case a good project manager finds a way to get things done.
Does project leadership play a role? Leadership also plays a part in managing successful projects. On
the rare occasions when projects run relatively smoothly, the project manager need only manage the
process. However, projects seldom proceed down the WBS path as originally planned. Project
managers often have to deviate from what was originally planned and introduce changes in the project
scope and schedule to respond to unforeseen threats or opportunities. These changes often require the
project manager to do more than simply manage, they require him to step in and lead. That leadership
usually involves recognizing and articulating the need to significantly alter the direction and operation
of the project. It also means aligning people to the new direction and motivating them to work
together to overcome hurdles produced by the change in order to realize the new objectives.
Does this role change under duress? In a situation like the scenario we are discussing, leadership
skills, combined with a more assertive use of the standard interpersonal project management skills,
would need to be put into play. There is an immediate need to gain the trust of the project team
members. They need to feel that they can trust that the new

when counties failed in this regard the state was often hesitant or unable to act as a final third party

the Hatfield/McCoy Feud (Waller, 1998) have analyzed feud violence from a historical perspective.
This paper will bring the tools of economics and rational choice approaches to bear on the problem.
The analysis of violence using economic logic is not novel. Violent conflict, though costly and

The Characteristics Of The Kiowa Tribe Of Native Americans
The Kiowa Indians are a tribe of Native Americans. They migrated from western Montana southward
into the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in the 17th and 18th centuries, and finally into the Southern
Plains by the early 19th century. The Kiowa Indians are from Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and
Texas. The Kiowa tribe was forced to move to a reservation in Oklahoma during the 1800 s, and most
Kiowa people are still living in Oklahoma today. They first lived in what is now called Montana. In
the 1700s they moved to the Great Plains. The Kiowa were powerful warriors. They defended their
land from U.S. settlers and troops longer than most other Plains Indian tribes did. The Kiowa Tribe
had unique characteristics that impacted the United States back then.
Things that made the Kiowa Tribe unique were their calendars. The biannual Kiowa Calendar divides
the year into summer and winter. To differentiate the seasons, the calendar keeper used a pictograph of
the Sun dance lodge for summer and perhaps hand game sticks or zohl ahl sticks for winter. It is
commonly believed that the Johausan was the earlier calendar keeper in the Kiowa tribe. After the
death of Johausan in the winter of 1866 1867, other Kiowa men began keeping calendars as well. As
time progressed into the twentieth century, the number of calendars grew as the calendar keepers
began recording for individual communities. Eventually, calendar keeping fell into nonexistence.
The Kiowa saw great importance in the extended

Taking a Look at Holden Vehicles
The antiquity of Holden can be found back from 1856, as soon as James Alexander Holden started as a
saddlery business in Adelaide, South Australia. The business then evolved over a period of years,
developing from mending cars upholstery to the complete invention of automobile body shells. The
company then became the exclusive dealer of American car manufacturer General Motors in Australia.
By the year of 1920 Holden started to supply trams cars for Melbourne. On 1931, Holden merged with
the American Car manufacturer, General Motors and become General Motors Holden s Limited (GM
H). In 1936, Holden opened a new HQ and assembly plant at Fisherman s Bend in Port Melbourne.
Holden was also considered as one of the only seven fully integrated global GM operations that
designs, builds and sells vehicles for Australia and the world (Holden, 2010).
Reason for The closure of the GM Holden.
Recently on 11 December 2013, Holden announced that it would stop production of Holden vehicles
in Australia. The decision by the auto transnational signals a massive escalation in the assault on the
living standards and social rights of the employed class across Australia. The entire Australian car

Disadvantages Of Calamansi
Powdered Calamansi Anyone?
Numerous Filipino dishes have calamansi as a main ingredient, with the fruit s juice used either as a

Upon reaching the Vatican, Hanno proceeded to stun the papal court and steal Leo s heart in a grand

The increase of knowledge, trade and capital driven by new advancements in technology. There is
fierce debate among scholars about when globalization began. Stated by Investopedia.com.
Economists argue globalization started with the earliest human migratory routes, while others view it
far more modern. The term itself, globalization has seen common use since the 80 s. I believe
globalization started in the post war era when the United States was seen as the most powerful country
in the world. Multinational corporations set off a swell of consequences, both very positive and
negative. Investopedia.com states, The unpredicted ease of travel around the globe and the
development of modern communications are used to support this view of globalization. Capital
flowing from country to country around the world has changed the way businesses increase in size and
power. Thefreedictionary defines industrial capital as Capital advanced to produce surplus value and

Women During The Nineteenth Century
Women both in Europe and America during the nineteenth century were living in a society that was
characterised by gender inequality (Wwnorton.com, 2015). In the early periods of the century, women
were expected to remain passive and subservient to the male counterparts. They were denied many of
the legal, social, or even political rights, which in the modern world we consider as a right
(Wwnorton.com, 2015). Thus, generally speaking women who belonged to the middle and upper
classes remained home; they were expected to care for their children and run the household. In
contrast, lower class women worked more frequently and so had other roles to play in society, which
was outside the home. However they were likely to be poorly paid servants ... Show more content on

The roles of women were undergoing significant change, and so therefore many of the writers reflect
this change in their writing, and so we see different explorations of the roles of women in society.
Many of the writers in the nineteenth century explored the role that women played in society. The
historical changes that occurred in this period prompted much discussion and argument about the
nature and role women played in society. The reform bills of 1932 and 1867 stimulated the discussion
of women s political rights (Wwnorton.com, p. 418). These changes inevitably were reflected in the
works of many of the nineteenth century writers, as the industrial revolution presented a challenge to
the traditional perceptions of the female stereotype. Emily Bronte s Jane Eyre being a very prominent
work of literature at the time, as she challenged stereotypes by creating a female heroine that did not
meet the social conventions of a woman living in the nineteenth century. The female protagonist Jane
articulates passionately the view that women are not different from men, but need a field of action as
much as their brothers (Wwnorton.com, p. 420). Bronte presents to her readers a character that
challenges the notion that women depend on men, and so we see Jane striving for independence.
Bronte challenges the Victorian ideals as her character Jane finds love on an equal basis, and not for
financial security, which was an important feature in Victorian society. This

Karl Marx s Views on Religion
Karl Marx has greatly influenced the creation of the modern world and was one of the first
revolutionary communist. Through his literary works and philosophies he helped to inspire many 20th
century communist regimes including the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and North Korea. Marx s ideas
did not end at communism; his religious ideology also helped shape and mold the 20th century world.
Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Trier, Germany and died in 1883. He was a philosopher who turned to
economics and politics in his mid 20 s. His family was Jewish but they converted to Christianity so
that Marx s father might pursue his career as a lawyer. Marx studied law in Berlin and then wrote a
thesis for his doctorate in philosophy. Marx had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the preface to his doctoral dissertation, Marx adopted as his motto the words of the Greek hero
Prometheus who defied the gods to bring fire to humanity: I hate all gods, with addition that they do
not recognize man s self consciousness as the highest divinity (Marx).
Third, religion is hypocritical. Although it might profess valuable principles, it sides with the
oppressors. Jesus advocated helping the poor, but the Christian church merged with the oppressive
Roman state, taking part in the enslavement of people for centuries. In the Middle Ages the Catholic
Church preached about heaven, but acquired as much property and power as possible.
Martin Luther preached the ability of each individual to interpret the Bible, but sided with aristocratic
rulers and against peasants who fought against economic and social oppression. According to Marx,
this new form of Christianity, Protestantism, was a production of new economic forces as early
capitalism developed. New economic realities required a new religious superstructure by which it
could be justified and defended. In addition to critiquing religion, Karl Marx wrote about the basic
ideologies and principles on socialism and communism. In The Communist Manifesto, Marx
discusses the problems facing society and how the government is responsible for this. According to
Marx, the East Indian and Chinese markets, the colonization of America, and trade with the

Summary Of Paul s Response To Corinthians
Paul makes a response to a letter from the Corinthians that pertained to various critical concerns.
Specifically, the Corinthians had a concern about human sexuality (1 Corinthians 1:1 40), (Harris,
2014, p.343). Interestingly, Paul responded by informing the people that he prefers a single life
without any kind of sexual connection. He also conveys that he wishes that all men, unmarried
women, and single women would choose the single life as he has chosen (1 Corinthians 1:7 8), due to
marriage can be agonizing, demanding, and distracting. Paul believed that the painful experience of
marriage was attributed to the obligations the husband and wife have for one another and the concerns
each of them has for the world, that takes away time from

The Nullification Crisis and Its Effects on the United States
The Nullification Crisis, which transpired under Andrew Jackson s administration created a
controversy not only during its time, but also in the years to follow and ultimately was one of the
many causes of the Civil War years later. The Nullification crisis soon developed in the early 1830 s
when the state of South Carolina began to have issues with the protective tariff (which was designed
to protect the industry in the northern United States by taxing imports). At this point in history, many
of the leaders of South Carolina were under the idea that a state did not have to follow a federal law
and could nullify the law. This was a result that many colonists from South Carolina felt that the
protective tax was benefiting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the more powerful men in advocating of the south was John C. Calhoun, who was an
experienced politician at the time. Many believe that Calhoun s ideas were the precursor to the session
crisis that ultimately triggered the Civil War around 30 years later. Although a solution was established
to resolve the tension between the North and the South, the issue resurfaced over the issue of slavery a
few years later due to the South once again becoming angered at certain actions of the President. In
conclusion, the Nullification Crisis contributed to the Civil War for many different reasons. For one,
President Jackson s main goal was to preserve the Union and avoid war at any cost. However, the
Nullification Crisis created tension between the North and the South, which would later boil over to
the point of war. Furthermore, the North was a manufacturing community, as well as being
significantly larger than the South. The South was an agricultural society, meaning that they were
dependent on the North for manufactured goods. Tensions rose between the North and South because
the North was not only benefiting from the protective tariff, but they were making money from the
South s need for manufactured goods for farming. In the end, the protective tariff showed that if the
North could inflict a tariff on the South, then the North (have a significantly larger population) could
end slavery (which was the South s main form of wealth). Due to

Essay on Chaos Theory Explained
Chaos Theory Explained Traditionally, scientists have looked for the simplest view of the world
around us. Now, mathematics and computer powers have produced a theory that helps researchers to
understand the complexities of nature. The theory of chaos touches all disciplines. Ian Percival, The

In the last years of the 19th century French mathematician, physicist and philosopher Henri Poincare
stumbled headlong into chaos with a realization that the reductionism method may be illusory in
nature. He was studying his chosen field at the time; a field he called the mathematics of closed
systems the epitome of Newtonian physics. A Closed system is one made up of just a few interacting
bodies sealed off from outside contamination. According to classical physics, such systems are
perfectly orderly and predictable. A simple pendulum in a vacuum, free of friction and air resistance
will conserve its energy. The pendulum will swing back and forth for all eternity. It will not be subject
to the dissipation of entropy, which eats its way into systems by causing them to give up their energy
to the surrounding environment. Classical scientists were convinced that any randomness and chaos
disturbing a system such as a pendulum in a vacuum or the revolving planets could only come from
outside chance contingencies. Barring those, pendulum and planets must continue forever, unvarying
in their courses.2 It was this comfortable picture of nature that Poincare blew apart when he attempted
to determine The stability of our solar system... For a system containing only two bodies, such as the

Essay On Defense-In-Depth Strategy
To ensure that the Western Interconnection power grid computer network is properly secured, there
needs to be strong defense in depth strategies in place. Although they may be strong defense in depth
strategies, vulnerabilities may be present and used as an advantage point for hackers to gain access to
the network. Defense in depth strategies will help create risk management to assess certain risks that
may be proven as detrimental to a network.
The idea behind defense in depth is to manage risk with diverse defensive strategies, so that if one
layer of defense turns out to be inadequate, another layer of defense will hopefully prevent a full
breach. This principle is well known, even beyond the security community; for example, it is a ...

Barnum et al, 2005). A firewall alone will not be enough to stop an intruder. You will have to do more
to stop if vulnerability is discovered. If we throw up another firewall, just around the application this
time, then we can protect ourselves from people who can get inside the corporate firewall. Now they d
have to find a flaw in some service that our application s sub network explicitly exposes, something
we re in a good position to control (S. Barnum et al, 2005). A firewall alone is not enough protection
against a cybercriminal. There will be a vulnerability or flaw of some kind within the server that can
be exposed and cause a great deal of destruction. Defense in depth is a practical strategy for achieving
information assurance in today s highly networked environments, as defined by the NSA, which first
applied the long standing military strategy to network security. The basic premise of defense in depth
is that layering security controls within a computing environment helps slow down an attacker s
progress should she/he gain access (K. Teitler, 2016). The defense in depth strategy that was created
by the NSA is very practical in finding information. The steps and processes that are taken into
consideration are for each system to draw out any vulnerability that may be present. Each step has a
different job that delivers different results than the rest. What the NSA Information Assurance based

The Debt And Equity Securities
Prior to 2016, both debt and equity securities could be classified as available for sale and their gains

Standard Update No, 2016 01, all equity securities must now be classified as trading and their
unrealized gains and losses reported in earnings. After examining the history of available for sale

Furthermore, even if management lacks the intention to sell, there remain events and circumstances
beyond the control of management that can force the need to sell. By measuring the changes in fair
value in net income it allows the investors to know the potential effects of these events and
circumstances. Critics of the fair value measurement cite the increase in volatility that it causes in net
income. A distinct disadvantage to reporting the gains and losses on the income statement is that these
gains and losses have not actually occurred and may not ever be realized (Proposed change..., 2009).
The input surrounding the current cost method indicated that the method was not developed enough
nor well defined. The board agreed and discarded the method early on in the deliberations. Those who
favor amortized cost claim that it avoids some of the temporary fluctuations in net income. The
arguments against amortized cost include: 1) It reflects an irrelevant historical transaction price that is
not useful in current investment decisions. 2) Use of amortized cost depends on subjective impairment
models that can be manipulated to smooth earnings. With all things considered, the board decided that
a change in fair value being shown in net income is a more appropriate measurement for equity
investments. The reasoning being that the realizable value of these investments could be realized by

The Major Environmental Cause And Environmental Effects Of...
Approximately 150,000 babies born in the United States every year are affected by birth defects, at
least 25 percent of those birth defects are environmentally caused (Birth Defects Statistics). Not only
do birth defects affect thousands of babies, other developmental problems such as low birth weight
and preterm labor also have an effect on a staggering number of children. Some developmental
problems and birth defects are unavoidable, but environmentally caused issues can and should be
prevented. Factors that are considered to be environmental include smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol,
using illegal drugs, taking prescription medications, having infectious diseases or sexually transmitted
diseases, and having poor nutrition. Environmental factors can cause birth defects and developmental
complications, but due to the limited amount of treatments, making appropriate nutrition and lifestyle
decisions during pregnancy can prevent these detrimental issues.
Birth defects and developmental complications can be caused by non environmental factors, or
environmental factors. Genetics and heredity are known causes of birth defects that are not
environmental factors. Birth defects such as Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis,
Sickle Cell Anemia are examples of genetics and heredity issues, which are unavoidable and can not
be prevented. However, environmental factors including: alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, prescription

Progesterone Essay
Progesterone, a type of female sex hormone which belong to a steroid hormone class known as

ovaries, adrenal gland and in placenta when women get pregnant. In the menstrual cycle, ovary
unceasingly alternates between two phases: the follicular phase, which is characterized by the
presence of maturing follicles and the luteal phase, which is governed by the presence of corpus
luteum. Ovulation occurs in between these phases. Corpus luteum, which is formed through

amount of estrogen.

Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of GnRH, LH and FSH through negative feedback to hypothalamic
pituitary gonadal axis. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of LH and FSH from anterior pituitary and
these indirectly causes a delay in follicle development. Decreased level of LH also lead to delay or
inhibition of LH surge, which then inhibits ovulation. According to Danielsson (2010), when LNG
was administrated at two to three days before LH surge, the LH peak was inhibited or delayed.
However, when LNG was provided one day before or on the day of LH surge, it failed to inhibit
ovulation.
Levonorgestrel has a high level of efficacy to prevent pregnancy as an emergency contraceptive (EC).
It is also relatively safe to use and well tolerated. It is relatively cheaper than other oral contraceptive.
In addition, for women over 16 years old, certain brand of Levonorgestrel can also be obtained
without a prescription from pharmacies. However, Levonorgestrel only effective if taken within 72
hours of unprotected intercourse. It is also only effective before LH level start to rise in follicular

Hence it must be said that the cruelty of their living situation, and not a genetic trait, is responsible for
their dementia. Antoinette suffers another form of solitude because she grows up as an orphan. Her
father died when she was very young, and her mother neglects her, preferring instead to only show
concern for Antoinette?s younger brother, Pierre. Antoinette recalls trying to show her some affection,
but also states, ?she pushed me away, not roughly, but calmly, coldly, without a word, as if she had
decided once and for all that I was useless to her.? Thus the reader recognizes that from a young age,
Antoinette yearns for love and must live with the pain of being rejected by her own mother. This
solitude can again be shown as one of many reasons why Antoinette is mentally unstable. Financial
decline also serves to drive Annette into madness. Annette started out as an affluent socialite and is
now a destitute widow. She is unable to adapt to this new, unfamiliar position in society and longs for
her privileged lifestyle. This becomes evident when Antoinette recalls how her mother ?still planned

The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my
opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability
to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many
endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria,
I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently
ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of
congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to

address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate
students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our
departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested
improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In
this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I

  • 2. Receiver Of Memory In The Giver, By Lois Lowry The Giver by Lois Lowry The Giver is a Utopian and Dystopian fiction ; Meaning that the book starts off in a community where everything is idealistic yet as the story progresses, the setting appears to be an environmentally degraded one. In this book, there is a boy named Jonas who lives in a community where everyone is assigned a role at Twelve . Jonas is selected for the role Receiver of memory and receives the memories of the past through his training to become the Receiver. During his training, he receives memories that reveal the truth about his community. Jonas dislikes the fact that his community is hidden from the truth and decides to change it by leaving so that since he is gone, all the memories of pain, color, love and choices ... • 3. Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third Essays Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third In the play Richard III , Richard s trickery and manipulation ultimately leads to his downfall. His goals are based on what he can get from others and how they can help him, not on helping himself. This paper shows how Richard uses his skills of trickery and manipulation to not only move up on the hierarchy, but to actually get elected king. He uses his trickery to get Anne his wife to help move up his position on the hierarchy; he uses his trickery to get elected and to get his men to fight for him and not for the better of the country. Throughout the play Richard uses his trickery to persuade people to see things his way. In his conversation with Anne, he makes her believe that her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making Anne believe him was easy due to his skills to trick and manipulate others into thinking his way. During the whole play Richard s evil ways are easy to see for the reader, but for other characters in the play it was not so easy. He tricked and persuaded them to elect him king without even mentioning it. When there was no one else before him on the hierarchy he had them believe he was a holy man that was not suitable for the throne. This was all a disguise for them to just hand over the throne and practically beg him to be king. This is best shown in the conversation between Richard, Buckingham, Catesby, Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and citizens when Richard tells them Alas, why would you heap this care on me? / I am unfit for state and majesty. / I do beseech you take it not amiss, / I cannot nor I will not yield to you. (Act III, Scene vii p.145) Here Richard is using reverse psychology to make them think he was such a humble man. When actually he is a power hungry and very conceited man; he only does things when the outcome benefits him. He doesn t care about others, he represents everything a king should go against: greed, manipulation, and gaining power. In Richard s last battle he makes his men believe Richmond and Richmond s men are bad by tricking them. His men do not follow him because they trust him, but rather, they follow him because they are manipulated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are important works that should be considered when studying medieval literature. They both portray the style and structure of medieval romance. They also tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his knights, as well as share the same characters of King Arthur and Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go over these works and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time. There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval times, some of which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and politics. For example, the French invasion of England, known as the Norman Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At first, England was ruled by the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though they did not write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not considered appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be known as Middle English. This became the language they used to write, and the act of writing itself became more abundant. Moreover, the conquest resulted in an increasing tension between England and France. This tension is apparent in many works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. Also, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has roots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis Here, the poet implies the concept of the life absurdity through using special grammar structures in order to show trivia and the insignificance of living. As a result of the conditions of the world and the fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all things have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including the world. ،‫رفتم‬ ‫من‬ ‫چون‬/‫بيم؟‬ ‫و‬ ‫اميدم‬ ‫محدث‬ ‫و‬ ‫قديم‬ ‫ز‬ ‫كي‬ ‫تا‬/.‫عظيم‬ ‫است‬ ‫خطائي‬ ‫معشوق‬ ‫و‬ ‫مي‬ ‫بي‬ ‫پس‬/،‫مقيم‬ ‫دهر‬ ‫درين‬ ‫ما‬ ‫مقام‬ ‫نيست‬ ‫چون‬ )93(.‫قديم‬ ‫چه‬ ‫محدث‬ ‫چه‬ ‫جهان‬ Como no será eterna nuestra estancia en el mundo,/ gran error es vivir sin vino y sin amante;/ ¿qué importa si ha tenido principio el universo?/ ¿qué más da, si me voy, la antigüedad del mundo? While Khayyam has a negative and pessimistic viewpoint to the life in some of his ruba is, on the whole, he comes to terms with life as it is rather than exhausting himself in the futile quest for the meaning of life and the world. It should be considered that Khayyam was not an illiterate person. He was a great mathematician and an astronomer who knew a lot about the space and the position of human beings in the world. In this sense, he as a scholar felt nothingness in the huge area of the existence and being. Consequently, Khayyam as an active nihilist prefers living even in a purposeless world rather than committing suicide. He prescribes a general prescription for his fellowmen. One which motivates them to live but not to think deeply about the existence since it will deteriorate a common person s life because he will be unable to understand and justifies his presence on the Earth which can lead to chronic feelings of emptiness and in its extremist form to committing suicide. For Khayyam, life is enjoyment and carpe diem, which means seizing the day , because you don t know whether you will be alive tomorrow or not. His idea is that now that we are here and we don t know anything about our future and we can t change our past, let s live in the moment and be happy. To transfer a ... • 7. Radiotherapy Vs Chemotherapy Essay In our body we have normal cells that send signals to every cell all the time and our normal cells obey what the signals are saying. Normal cells know when they have reached their limit and when it is time to die or to do something to themselves or to others. On the other hand, we have cancer cells, they override the normal signaling system. For example, cancer cells do not stop dividing and growing when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a tumor that is growing. My point is that cancer cells grow and divide in a manner that you are not able to control, they would invade normal tissues, organs and eventually spreading throughout the body. Cancer cells lost their control of growth and it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To treat cancer or to remove doctors and scientist use surgery, chemotherapy (drugs), various types of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy might be used to destroy leftover cancer cells and prevent the cancer from growing back. The exact treatment that will be used depends on like the type of tumor and the stage of the disease or other things to take into account. Scientists and researchers are always trying to find new ways to limit the growth, spread, and kill of cancer cells. Most of our population do not know exactly what cancer is and how it works. I highly suggest that we need to educate our population with the definition and show them how cancer cells works. In my case, if it was not for my biology classes I would not have learned how cancer cells works nor the definition. Cancer cells are really important since they can spread, get to the point of stopping the function of other cells, killing other cells and finalizing with death or stopping a function in our body. It is important to know about cancer cells because when you are learning about them you are also learning about how your cells work and how they function. If they know about this particular topic our community would be highly educated with not only cancer cells, also with many other diseases that are associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Guidance Philosophy Statement A Guidance Philosophy Statement(s): I believe that the purpose and challenge of guidance is to help the child in the developing process of self control and responsibility in practice. Positive, strong relationships between adults and children are key to a child s social and emotional development. It is very difficult to build any relationship without specific purpose and understanding of child development, without partnerships with family and staff s interactions. Teacher largely combines, models and directs all of these components for better assisting to the child and his/her family. Children are the future adults. I belie they not only listen to what we tell them (guide them), but also look for our actions. We cannot demand respect from children, if we going to treat or guide them without respect for their rights. Also, any guide techniques will not work without: Desire to understand a child and situation Listening skills The ability to get to his/her level Partnership with family ... A mirror is reflecting the one who looks into it, and those who may be next to the person. For the children it is an amazing tool, which allows them to see the results of their appropriate or mistaken behavior. For the each parent a child is a reflection of himself or herself in the small version. For the teachers, kids are also a reflection of all of the techniques, methods and knowledge. It is not just one image of the child for all of them. Each of us uses the mirror constantly, repeatedly, and it shows that it is impossible to remember even our own reflection in the mirror. Similarly, the process of guiding young children, it is not something that happened once and happened in one particular way, we use the guidance as a mirror and improve it ... • 9. Hamlet And Oedipus Comparison ll of the tragic heroes have unfortunate things in common. They all have certain qualities that make them a tragic hero. Hamartia is a required trait for the person to be considered a tragic hero. Also, hubris is needed to complete the tragic hero. The thing is there are multiple definitions of a tragedy. People believe that regular people are more capable of partaking in a tragedy. Hamlet and Oedipus are examples of the traditional tragedy. Hamlet s actions were all voluntary. He knew what he was doing and the consequences. Oedipus suffered from fate of his family. He didn t realize exactly what he was doing or the consequences. Oedipus is the truest tragic hero according to the traditional definition of a tragedy, the downfall of his royalty and uncontrollable fate is a perfect example. There are two definitions for a tragedy. One of them is the traditional version. Aristotle is the creator of the elements of tragedy. He came up with a basis to analyze tragedies. There are six different parts to a tragedy. They are plot, character, diction, thought, spectacle and song. Plot is the order of events in the story. Plot is a huge deal when dealing with tragedies. Character is the people who act in the play or story. Tragic heroes are a main part of the story. Everything is based around the tragic hero and his downfall. The hero always has a flaw that characterizes his unfortunate events. Fall of hubris is a major key in the tragic hero s traits. This means he or she has excessive pride. This restricts them from getting help from people occasionally. Also, the main character is affected with hamartia. They are completely ignorant towards certain important facts throughout their downfall. Which causes terrible things to happen right in front of them without them noticing. Thought is referring to what the tragic hero is thinking throughout the plot. They express this through lengthy conversations and soliloquies. Their soliloquies are very popular and usually carry a heavy amount of information about the character that the audience needs to know. Diction is the vocabulary the characters use. It is important to know the kind of connotation the words relate to. The characters express their feelings through word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many great leaders chose to speak out about their lack of rights. Some adopted the route of trying to change people s views through peace some through violence. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. chose to follow the nonviolent path. Dr. King brought many together for peace, he inspired many people throughout America, and he and his dream still play a role in our daily lives. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. (King 4). Unconditional love for all peoples is a great quality that King had, and many people today have modeled after. • 11. Macbeth s Order Of The Universe Salma Bora Mrs.Gritte Pre AP English I 09 March 2017 Macbeth s Order of the Universe Elizabethan ideologies are based on the Great Chain of Being . The people believe that in an ordered universe, everything is ranked in order of their superiority. This order coincides with all religious beliefs as well as the political system. All inhabitants of earth are ranked in the following order: God, angels, king, man, animals, plants, inorganic material, and lastly, chaos. The king is similar to a God on earth, so any ill willed acts against the king is a direct attack on God. You lack the season of all natures, sleep (3.4.140). Sleeping is essential for maintaining health, but since Macbeth committed unnatural acts of murder against the innocent, his health, along with mentality, is at a risky state a curse from nature itself all caused by disrupted sleep. Not only is his crime evident in the order of the universe, but also with his internal order. The killing of Duncan leads to a very bizarre switch in roles within nature. A falcon, tow ring in her pride of place,/Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed, (2.4.13 14). This reversal brings discomfort, since even the animal kingdom is starting to be affected by the unravelling of chaos. An even worse example, King Duncan s horses, Beauteous and swift, the minions of their race,/Turn d wild in nature, broke their stalls, flung out,/War with mankind. (2.4.15 16,18). There is nothing a king trusts more than his valiant steed, and similarly both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were trusted vassals of King Duncan, who was oblivious of their traitorous nature. However, even the most trusty steed can turn his back on his master upon smelling the faintest scent of fear. The hardest part for many is the personal side of project management. In conducting this exploration, we will envision ourselves in the following scenario, and address the issues presented. The higher the saboteur scores on the power meter the greater the chance that the project will fail, but no matter what the case a good project manager finds a way to get things done. Does project leadership play a role? Leadership also plays a part in managing successful projects. On the rare occasions when projects run relatively smoothly, the project manager need only manage the process. However, projects seldom proceed down the WBS path as originally planned. Project managers often have to deviate from what was originally planned and introduce changes in the project scope and schedule to respond to unforeseen threats or opportunities. These changes often require the project manager to do more than simply manage, they require him to step in and lead. That leadership usually involves recognizing and articulating the need to significantly alter the direction and operation of the project. It also means aligning people to the new direction and motivating them to work together to overcome hurdles produced by the change in order to realize the new objectives. Does this role change under duress? In a situation like the scenario we are discussing, leadership skills, combined with a more assertive use of the standard interpersonal project management skills, would need to be put into play. There is an immediate need to gain the trust of the project team members. They need to feel that they can trust that the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factors that are considered to be environmental include smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, using illegal drugs, taking prescription medications, having infectious diseases or sexually transmitted diseases, and having poor nutrition. Environmental factors can cause birth defects and developmental complications, but due to the limited amount of treatments, making appropriate nutrition and lifestyle decisions during pregnancy can prevent these detrimental issues. Genetics and heredity are known causes of birth defects that are not environmental factors. Birth defects such as Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Anemia are examples of genetics and heredity issues, which are unavoidable and can not be prevented. In the menstrual cycle, ovary unceasingly alternates between two phases: the follicular phase, which is characterized by the presence of maturing follicles and the luteal phase, which is governed by the presence of corpus luteum. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of GnRH, LH and FSH through negative feedback to hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of LH and FSH from anterior pituitary and these indirectly causes a delay in follicle development. Decreased level of LH also lead to delay or inhibition of LH surge, which then inhibits ovulation. According to Danielsson (2010), when LNG was administrated at two to three days before LH surge, the LH peak was inhibited or delayed. However, when LNG was provided one day before or on the day of LH surge, it failed to inhibit ovulation. Levonorgestrel has a high level of efficacy to prevent pregnancy as an emergency contraceptive (EC). It is also relatively safe to use and well tolerated. It is relatively cheaper than other oral contraceptive. In addition, for women over 16 years old, certain brand of Levonorgestrel can also be obtained without a prescription from pharmacies. However, Levonorgestrel only effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is also only effective before LH level start to rise in follicular phase. On examining Antoinette and her mother Annette, the reader gains a new perspective of insanity. One realizes that these two women are mentally perturbed as a result of numerous external factors that are beyond their control. The cruelty of life and people drive Annette and her daughter to lunacy. Antoinette s condition owes its beginnings to the solitude of her childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence it must be said that the cruelty of their living situation, and not a genetic trait, is responsible for their dementia. Antoinette suffers another form of solitude because she grows up as an orphan. Her father died when she was very young, and her mother neglects her, preferring instead to only show concern for Antoinette?s younger brother, Pierre. Antoinette recalls trying to show her some affection, but also states, ?she pushed me away, not roughly, but calmly, coldly, without a word, as if she had decided once and for all that I was useless to her.? Thus the reader recognizes that from a young age, Antoinette yearns for love and must live with the pain of being rejected by her own mother. This solitude can again be shown as one of many reasons why Antoinette is mentally unstable. Financial decline also serves to drive Annette into madness. Annette started out as an affluent socialite and is now a destitute widow. She is unable to adapt to this new, unfamiliar position in society and longs for her privileged lifestyle. This becomes evident when Antoinette recalls how her mother ?still planned and hoped perhaps she had to hope every time she passed a looking glass.? Annette tries to recapture her former _prestige by riding her horse every morning, even after ?her riding clothes grew shabby?. • 39. My Graduate Program At Ladoke Akintola University Of... The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to perform experiments made many students cluster together in the lab to make use of the few available resources. I took on an executive position in my departmental students association in an effort to address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I presented workshops on software, like MATLAB and HYSYS, to over 50 students to help them complete their coursework. Later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
