Photosynthesis Results
Overall each student made progress. The lowest growth percentage was 5 percent and highest was 50
percent. The learning objective that students were the most successful with was: I can describe the
process of photosynthesis. Two possible reasons for this success was we spent a lot of time reviewing
plants and how they get their food. We also did a virtual lab that involved Elodea plants and students
were able to see the relationship between plants and animals. Students also got extensive review
practice in the area of photosynthesis. I also think the concepts involved in photosynthesis were a bit
easier to master than those of cellular respiration. The work samples reflect that students had an easier
time with photosynthesis and students received more practice in this area. ... Show more content on

Some reasons for this was because it is a complex process that is not as easy to picture as
photosynthesis. I also struggled finding materials that could simplify it and as well as visual aids. It
was also hard to get students to be interested in the material and some of the practice materials related
more to photosynthesis. What I do differently is spend another full day just on cellular respiration and
try to relate it more to the students. I think the food web activity that I did after the unit might have
been good in this section because cellular respiration does help us as humans break down our food and

Tyco Scandal Essay
Part 1 Facts of the Case
Prior to the Tyco scandal, the company was one of America s largest conglomerates, with operating
revenues of 38 billion dollars and 240,000 employees, worldwide. Tyco Laboratories began operations
in 1960, performing experimental work for the U.S. government. The firm went public in 1964 and
quickly expanded, mostly by acquisition, to exploit the commercial applications of its work. Dennis
Kozlowski joined the company in 1975 as an assistant controller. The company subsequently shifted
its focus from growth to profits within its three primary divisions: fire protection, electronics, and
packaging. Kozlowski joined Tyco s board in 1987 and became president and chief operating officer
two years later. Kozlowski ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remainder of the 250 top managers resigned shortly after.
C. How was the scandal uncovered and by whom?
The situation began to unfold when the Securities and Exchange Commission was probing into a
restatement of the company s stock price. Kozlowski s business practices raised some eyebrows. In
1999, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) initiated an inquiry into Tyco s practices that
resulted in a restatement of the company s earnings. In January, 2002, questionable accounting
practices came to light. Tyco had forgiven a $19 million, no interest loan to Kozlowski in 1998 and
had paid the CEO s income taxes on the loan. It was found that he company s stock price had been
overrated, and that the CEO and CFO had sold 100 million dollars worth of shares, and then stated to
the public that he was holding them, which was a misrepresentation and misled the investors.
The major conspiracy was uncovered by Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau, who was
investigating Kozlowski for income tax evasion for some fine art work that he had purchased. As
Morgenthau kept digging into the record keeping of Tyco and Kozlowski, it was determined that there
were other situations that had occurred, such as a 10 million dollar loan that was totally forgiven by
Tyco, and all interest was billed to the corporation. It became apparent on January

Competitive Analysis of Business Cycles
Institutional Affiliation Competitive Analysis Business Cycles Labor is an important factor of
production for all firms. Business information is not perfect at Wal Mart Stores: economic experts are
not dismayed or surprised with the unemployment rates at the stores. Employees at Wal Mart stores
are likely to be affected by frictional unemployment. This occurs at a result of everyday changes in the
company s economic structure, which is likely to lead to the death of the firm. Employees at Wal Mart
are likely to get tired of the old bosses and old jobs. Bosses at Wal Mart find the claim that
subordinates are producing unsatisfactory work: workers are likely to enter and re enter at Wal Mart
(Peterson, Fabozzi, 2009). Structural unemployment occurs frequently at Wal Mart because the firm
does not hire qualified candidates for their jobs. Workers are required to perform any jobs and are paid
less for their jobs. The company s minimum wage is extremely thus precipitating structural
unemployment. Supervisors have a tendency of upsetting other workers and amounts to drop down in
production and amount of work done. Other workers have proven to be mentally retarded: the
company spends much time on supervision than production (Power, 2010). Statistics will not reveal
the rate of structurally unemployed people at Wal Mart. This is because such people are likely to gain
the conviction that they can never be employed by Wal Mart thus stops trying. Wal Mart has realized

Community In The Deaf Community
The Deaf community is comprised of people of a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds, as Deafness
prevails around the world; discriminating against none. The Deaf community grows continually. As a
hearing person learning about the community, it s distinctive culture and how to communicate in ASL,
I am developing myself and discovering my fairly new position within the Deaf community. Firstly, I
feel that the community itself is important in learning societal expectations and background
knowledge. For this, I feel I am beginning to understand the true nature of the community, and why it
is the way it is. For instance, the Deaf community is collective, unlike the hearing community, which
is individualistic. While I understand this as a fact, it is difficult to adjust and truly understand this
idea and the implications it may hold. In addition, I have noticed a sort of hierarchy within the Deaf
community, wherein certain members tend to be cherished to a higher degree, despite Deaf people
generally not bothering to hold a candle to one another s careers, economic ranking, etc. to determine
ranking. I feel that these cherished members are strong leaders and advocates in the Deaf community.
Hearing members of the community do not appear to have much in the way of ranking instead, they
use their position to voice Deaf people s positions, and point the media towards Deaf members of the
community. As well, there are Social Behaviour topics within the Deaf community. While the

respondent was sentenced to eighty four years in prison.
Case History:
The Supreme Court of Montana reversed his sentence. It reasoned: (1) that respondent

the State s evidence on all elements of the offense charged. . ., and (2) that evidence of
respondent s voluntary intoxication was clear[ly]. . . relevant to the issue of whether [respondent]
acted knowingly and purposely. . . Sections 45 2 203 did not allow the jury to consider that
evidence with regard to the issue. The Supreme Court believed the respondent was denied due

History Of Sex Offenders
A sex offender is anyone who is convicted of a sex crime. The crimes that qualify as sex crimes vary
by state, but most states include rape (forced and statutory), sexual assault or battery, child molestation
or any sexual conduct with a minor, production or possession of child pornography, and attempts to
commit any of these crimes. The history of sex offenders has been active since the 1800 s according to
author Philip Jenkins. Jerkins explains that in the Middle Ages, children were constantly coming up
missing and he also explains that sex crime laws have existed as far back as biblical times with a
number of penalties ranging from fines to death for various sexual acts considered deviant at one time
or another in society. (Jenkins, 1998)

Louise Banks. It shows her going through her normal routine until a student tells her to turn on the
news at the beginning of one of her lectures. What is shown is twelve giant alien spaceships landed on
earth at seemingly random locations throughout the world. Confused as everyone else, Dr. Banks
decides that the only thing she can do is go to work as usual. While in her office she is visited by a
military officer named Colonel G.T. Weber. He proceeds to ask her to decode one of the alien s

The Controversy Surrounding The Church Essay
Leithart begins this book by talking about the controversy surrounding the church in the 4th century.
Athanasius, a young man brought up in a pagan household, was taught to fear the Lord from a man
named Alexander from a young age. Athanasius main opponent during his lifetime was to discount
Arianism, a heresy that tried to propose the subordination of the Son to the Father, a view that outright
denied the eternal generation of the Son, making Jesus less than God. The Arians believed that the
Father exists prior to the Son, since the Son is not eternal, that is, not timelessly self subsistent to the
Father. This is to say that the Father does not eternally generate the Son, but instead came into being at
a certain point in history, a blatant heresy that was corrected by Athanasius and the Church council in
the 4th century.
Athanasius believed that Jesus was shepherd, high priest...Passover Sacrafice, which manifests itself
now in the living incarnate son of Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique, however, in the fact that he is the all
sustaining high priest without transition and without succession. Athanasius also believed that Jesus is
eternally generated by the father, and that Jesus, along with the father, is unoriginate, from alpha to
omega. Leithart states that the Arians dishonor God by describing Jesus as originate, while Athanasius
equates Jesus with God and the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity. There are four primary paradigms that
Athanasius finds in

The Pros And Cons Of Life
Everyday technology and scientific discoveries are being made in the field of aging. In a society
obsessed with staying young, one must ask themselves: When is life too long? In these next two
articles, we examine and analyze the benefits, side effects and the complications that come with living
longer lives than we are accustomed too. These articles are Who wants to live forever? Three
arguments against extending the human lifespan. By Martien A. M. Pijnenburg and Carlo Leget and
Science Can Help Us Live Longer, But How Long Is Too Long? by Randy Rieland. The first article
discusses three arguments against the idea of humans living longer lives. While the second article
considers the pros and cons of living a longer life and why most people refuse comply. Even though,
both articles present great arguments and a thorough understanding of the subject they discuss,
Pinenburg s extensive research, experience and credentials make his article the favorable choice to

they demonstrate contrasting styles of writing. The first article Science Can Help Us Live Longer, But

back approach. Rielands article appeals to a wider audience. He includes photos and writes from the
perspective of the average middle class citizen. The first examples he mentions is, While 80 percent of

Cry, The Beloved Country, By Alan Paton
In South Africa, the plight of apartheid tore apart communities, families, and individuals. It was a
social concern that came under increasing attack and response as apartheid reached its zenith in the
middle of the 20th century. It was not unlike segregation and the Jim Crow mentality that prevailed in
the United States; with its ancient roots and adverse effects. Indeed, one is curiously reminded of
Harper Lee s well known novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, and its role in trying to formulate an escape
from that system. An escape with various routes, but an escape that interestingly calls back to the
nature of innocence and child like questions. It is in this way that Alan Paton s enduring novel, Cry,
The Beloved Country, takes on a unique and refreshing approach to a basic question: that of the
equality and dignity of all people. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Paton exudes frequent
references to childhood, a devout religiosity, and of course, a return to simple questions; all of which
contribute the idea of innocence and a certain naiveté that contribute significantly to Paton s message.
Extended and found in abundance, the warmth and almost reassurance of children provides a
foundation and almost stronghold throughout the novel. Both of the central characters around who the
story is centralized are old men, but both of them experience a journey that calls to mind the idea that
one is never quite finished growing up. The newness of Kumalo s journey (with both exciting

Being There By Jerzy Kosinski
Being There is a book that takes a deep dive into philosophical thought and touches on many of the
branches of philosophy. The author, Jerzy Kosinski, tells the story in such a way that many parallels
can be drawn between: epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and politics and events or ideas that are
addressed in the book. By looking at the idea that we don t have to be known by others to exist as well
as that knowledge is in all of us, it is easy to see how the book touches on the fact that we are all
capable of making the right choices and that maybe the best government policies can come from
natural things as well. This is important because Being There dives into the major philosophical ideas
of existence and the decisions made throughout daily life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After exhausting all resources and seeing that there is no information on either him at all they claim
that, The man doesn t seem to have existed until he moved into Rand s house three days ago (131). By
Kosinski creating the idea that Chance doesn t exist at all it makes the reader think about what actually
makes a person. This is where metaphysics comes into to play for the answer to that question. One of
the most famous philosophers, Plato, defined that a person exists as long as he thinks I think therefore
I am . Even though he doesn t exist in any records he still is a being because he is seen throughout the
book thinking and making actions, which according to Plato means he exists. Thus driving home an

As I was thinking about the two companies that I wanted to do for my course project on, I began to

airlines. The reason that I choose to do the merger is because I knew that they were going to go
through many changes within this merger. Both airline companies have a lot to offer to each other with
this merger that they can compete with Delta airlines one of the largest airline in the world. This
merger will bring about several changes within both companies. In this paper I will be providing the

After watching the video I realized how much of an impact English speakers have on an English
dictionary. I enjoyed the video and I think that the speaker explained her information about adding
words to the dictionary well. I try to restrict my acronyms and slang usage unless I m talking to people
who understand them seeing as they are not in the dictionary. I was taught that whatever is in the
dictionary are the only words that I should use. I m sure I heard a teacher say once (or more) that you

Essay on Death Penalty Debate
Why is the death penalty still allowed throughout much of the U.S.? The process of prosecuting and
convicting an individual is astronomical, and there is great debate as to whether the death penalty
actually works as a deterrent. Retribution and biasness have contributed too many that have received
this sentence, considering all this, life imprisonment is best for all, realistically, and most effective.
The advantages of life imprisonment far more outweigh the death sentence. Death Penalty
America has always had a history of using the death penalty, but no subject has received greater

data that shows that the death penalty acts as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole.
Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend
to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection,
and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is
sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and
finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus
many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up
paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making
America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime
fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means,
this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers)
also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. In the end the offender
may die in prison, so there is no reliable data that the death penalty

perspective, internet blogger, JDOWSETT, possessed a similar ability. Not as a result of his skin color,
but from riding a bicycle in a predominantly automobile environment located in Lansing, MI. Instead
of people reacting to him like they would with Staples (downright terrified), drivers and pedestrians

William Shakespeare s The Duchess Of Malfi
John Webster s play The Duchess of Malfi is a Renaissance tragedy. Threats lurk the widowed
Duchess and her forbidden husband Antonio. The Duchess s power greedy brothers, Ferdinand and
The Cardinal forbid her sister to remarry. The play is an unconventional Renaissance tragedy as the
protagonist focuses on a female character rather than a male. (Pacheco, 2012, p69) This essay focuses
on Webster s use of distinctive features of language.
This passage is important because it displays the violent and tragic scene of the Duchess s execution
and torture. The scene occurs after the Duchess encounters a theatrical spectacle delivered by her
brother Ferdinand, as his way of punishing and torturing her (Pacheco, 2012, p169) The dramatic
function this serves is that it reveals a violent and painful death to the audience, made all the more
shocking and tragic with her welcoming death and believing, to meet such excellent company/In th
other world. (Webster, 2004, p159) Webster employs dramatic irony at this point as she thinks Antonio
is dead and the audience know this is an act of torture and so this illustrates the tragedy of the
situation.
The extract starts with the Duchess calming Cariola after it is revealed that the Duchess will be killed
and she says, Peace, it affrights not me. (Webster, 2004, p155) Her response is shocking as death does
not affright (Webster, 2012, p155) her and she is attempting to put Cariola s mind at peace (Webster,

of care and therefore reinforces women s care responsibilities (Molyneux, 2006; Patel Hochfeld,

Child Health and Well Being
Introduction
The purpose of this project is how we can ensure the health and safety of children in a childcare
setting. We have to consider the welfare of every child who will be under our care once we are
working in Childcare. We have to follow some certain guidelines and this project will help me to
outline the requirements necessary to provide for the health and well being of the children, including
their protection and ensuring a safe environment for them. This project will further discuss the Health
and Safety Regulations, some Legislation involved in Childcare and we have to come up with some
policies and procedures.

Childcare Act 1991
The Child Care Act of 1991 was the first piece of Irish legislation to focus on children. It defines a
child as someone who is under 18 years of age (unless they are married). The Act is an extensive piece
of legislation, and it is not within the remit of this text to discuss all aspects of it. For purposes, we
will focus on Part VII of the Act, which defines a pre school child and pre school service.
Pre school child: a child under six years of age who is not attending a national school or school
providing an educational program similar to national school.
Pre school service: any pre school, playgroup, day nursery, crèche, daycare or other similar service
which caters for preschool children. These include sessional, full time and drop in services.
The Child Care Act of 1991 is very important in relation to the protection of children. The Act puts a
legal responsibility on any person charged with the care of any child to act in the child s best interests
this is the most fundamental requirement of every person who works with children with whatever
situation. It is also the primary legislation regulating the childcare policy.
Childcare (Preschool) Regulations 2006
The Childcare (Pre School Services) (No. 2) Regulations 2006 provides for standard of service,
upkeep and care for any setting defined as pre school. The regulations define a pre school child to be
one under the age of six

Media Role Models and the Effect on Children
Media construct our culture, and the media we use to communicate with one another shapes our
perception of reality. Our society is centered on media, it is the most influential factor in constructing
our culture, but is it a positive culture? If we examine the effect that media has on children, we can say
that it breeds a harmful culture, one that throws values and morals out the window. This is because the
media is profit driven and has developed its own code of ethics of anything goes . As a result, children
are exposed to things that they should not necessarily be exposed to yet and as a result it rushes their
mental development and in fact moulds their mentality. This is a scary fact because these children s
minds are susceptible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example we could look at is Britney Spears, young girls who like Britney Spears think that
she is ‘cool and thus they strive to be just like her, and this involves acting like Britney and more
importantly buying Britney Spears products such as her clothing. So in conclusion these media
personalities are popular among children and idolized by them because they are promoted as being
cool and for a child to be cool they must be just like them, which involves buying their products.
These media personalities are in essence products themselves that the media bodies try to sell to
children on the basis of ‘cool , and once they can be sold to the children as being cool, their entire
franchise benefits because their image can create the demand for all products with their likeness.
Now let s look at the effect that these media personalities have on children in the age group 5 and
under. We assume that children are safe watching educational programming such as Blue s Clues ,
Dora the explorer and Teletubbies , but are they really as safe as we think they are. First off, these
types of television shows are educational and do in fact teach young children while keeping them
entertained. This can be seen as a positive influence on our kids and these characters as being positive

The Negative Effects Of Drug Prohibition
Numerous researchers contend that drug prohibition policies actually create more issues than are
solved. The negative effects of drug restriction policies include: negative health effects, increased drug
effects, crimes at home and abroad, increased violence, misuse of assets and resources, violation of
civil rights and excess on criminal and government systems. Heavy emphasis on upholding criminal
restrictions on drug creation and selling was also significantly influencing the productivity of illegal
drug markets and increasing the development and operations of groups that carry out crimes, corrupt
powers, and undermine the rules and laws in numerous countries.
Bertram et al. states that drug related crimes is not necessarily the result of drug use but rather of the
conditions under which people are constrained, by drug prohibition policies, to purchase and sell
drugs. The sorts of unlawful acts and crimes related to drugs are, to a great extent, made by drug
policies. Laws that make drug ownership illegal, create the largest amount of drug criminals. Different
crimes, for example, violent acts and burglary, are created by underground markets (black markets) in
which drugs are traded. Our government is ensuring the monopoly of the black market by restricting
the utilization of non prescribed drugs. There is a great interest for which there must be a great supply
and the present laws prohibiting drug exchange and usage encourage the development of these
underground markets.

The Impact of Global Financial Crisis on the United...
The impact of global financial crisis on the United Kingdom
Introduction
This report will examine the affects of the global financial crisis, which was a result of the collapse of
the sub prime mortgage market in the United States, on the UK economy. First of all, it will look at the
background of the global financial crisis. Secondly, this paper will analyses why the UK economy has
been influenced by the global financial crisis, what effects of the financial crisis on the United
Kingdom have been, especially labour market. Lastly, brief conclusions will be drawn and a number
of recommendations will be made.
* Outline
Financial crisis is a sharp deterioration of a group of financial indicators, such as business and

Thus, when interest rates rose in 2007, most of banks could not put cash back because more and more
homeowners with mortgages were forced to default, and they also could not borrow money from
wholesale market because others were involved in the same situation. Lastly, although Bob Bennett,
the finance director, said the credit crunch that was obviously coming should have led to more
restrained [mortgage] volumes. in February 2007, managers of banks did not believe that rising
interest rates would affect lending (Brummer, 2008, p.10).
Moreover, another reason is the changing of the UK economic structure. From 1945, significant
sectors were run by the state, because the Labour Government stated that the economy must be
centrally managed. However, it was a big challenge for the local government to run them efficiently
because of a limited budget. In order to solve this problem, Conservative governments transferred
some state industries to private sectors from 1979 to 1997. After that, the Labour Government also
accepted privatization. Nowadays, there is a free market economy in the United Kingdom (Oakland,
2006). That means the UK government plays a neutral role in its administration and legislation of
economic activity. It was so difficult for companies, especially for the private sector, to deal with the
negative effects of the global financial crisis of 2007 2008. Furthermore, It is no wonder that the UK
government should take

Health Care For The United States
Health care costs in the United States account for a large portion of the national expenditure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per capita national health
expenditures totaled $9,255 and total national health care expenditures totaled $2.9 trillion in 2013
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).
Despite the substantial amount of money spent on health care in the United States, gaps existed in the
health insurance system that failed to provide adequate coverage to a significant proportion of the
population. The primary avenue for accessing health care is through health insurance; therefore, those
who lacked health insurance lacked access to health care. In an attempt to expand coverage to the ...

In 2013, annual premiums for individual coverage averaged $5,884 and $16,351 for family coverage.
This equated to workers spending $83/month for individual coverage and $380/month for family
coverage (Majerol et al., 2015). Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and
their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes. This begs the
question: was it worth it for workers to spend their limited financial resources on health care
coverage?
Adults less than 65 years of age from low or moderate income families comprise the majority of
uninsured Americans because Medicare covers health insurance for elderly adults greater than age 65.
Furthermore, adults were more likely to lack health insurance than children because Medicaid and the
Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide health insurance coverage for children.
Minorities were much more likely to be uninsured than whites and the majority of the uninsured
population were native or naturalized United States citizens (Majerol et al., 2015). Non citizens
residing in the U.S. had poor access to employer sponsored health care coverage because they were
more likely to be employed in jobs with poor wage compensation and industries that did not offer
health care coverage. In the majority of cases, immigrants who were lawfully present in the U.S. were
considered to be ineligible for Medicaid or CHIP if they had been in

Tourism In UK Tourism
To begin with this could be classed as a positivity as the tourism industry sector is still growing
despite the different impact, however this could also be seen as a negative according to the WTTC
findings because it has meant that within the Brexit it includes that immigrants might have to go back
to their own countries. This is showing as since there are mostly foreigners working in the sector like
working in hotels, there is an opening for more vacancies, this could mean less people are able to
effectively give good tourist services. Whilst focusing on how the sector has boosted the UK s
economy in different ways, there are also somethings which could change for UK travellers.
According to express article for tourists who are going on holiday they would need to keep on top of
the Brexit holiday rules, when travelling to Europe , this suggests that the guide book was made to
ensure they understand the rules, when entering a European country but ensuring rules are being kept.
The studies from this article shows that there is a main focus on passport changes, euros and exchange
rates, visas and healthcare, when it comes to the passport the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
describes it as still giving the British people the freedom to travel but having this passport at all times.
Moreover, when looking at the travelling of the industry within the tourism industry, staycation has
been something else which has become popular over the last year or so as a result of

Dna Isolation Research Paper
DNA Isolation, Quantification, and Visualization
DNA isolation is a process of DNA purification through physical and chemical means. DNA was
protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and cell
wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and solubilize
the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the leaves with a
pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution, broke down the
lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to remove chunks of
debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the collection tube that

Why Was Andrew Jackson Controversial
Should we assume that a president was a tyrant or a champion of the common man based solely on
how they acted or should we step into their shoes first before we judge them? Andrew Jackson s
presidency made him one of the most controversial presidents that has ever existed in the history of
the United States of America. Andrew Jackson for many was a cruel tyrant who reinstated the tax on
British goods with Tariff of 1828 and rejected the renewal of the charter for the Second National Bank
of the United States. Also, Andrew Jackson created the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which end result
would be the Trail of Tears during the presidency of Martin Van Buren. Andrew Jackson was

Andrew Jackson rejected the renewal of the bank charter because Andrew Jackson believed that the
bank was corrupt and was harmful to the common people as shown when he stated in his bank veto
message that, the present Bank of the United States... enjoys an exclusive privilege of banking...
almost a monopoly of the foreign and domestic exchange. Andrew Jackson is showcasing his disgust
for the Second National Bank as he is implying that the bank is a corrupt system which only help the
rich and the bank itself while hurting the common folk. Andrew Jackson further showcases this
mentality by writing that, it is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of
government to their selfish purposes. Andrew Jackson is saying to Congress that he views the Second
National Bank of the U.S. as corrupt. Furthermore, Andrew Jackson believed he was protecting the
common people from a corrupt enterprise by rejecting the charter of the Second National Bank of the
U.S. as he believed that multiple state banks would be much more helpful to the common people.
Andrew Jackson is also suggesting that his idea for the pet banks, however misguided it may have
been, was for the good of the common

  • 2. Photosynthesis Results Overall each student made progress. The lowest growth percentage was 5 percent and highest was 50 percent. The learning objective that students were the most successful with was: I can describe the process of photosynthesis. Two possible reasons for this success was we spent a lot of time reviewing plants and how they get their food. We also did a virtual lab that involved Elodea plants and students were able to see the relationship between plants and animals. Students also got extensive review practice in the area of photosynthesis. I also think the concepts involved in photosynthesis were a bit easier to master than those of cellular respiration. The work samples reflect that students had an easier time with photosynthesis and students received more practice in this area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some reasons for this was because it is a complex process that is not as easy to picture as photosynthesis. I also struggled finding materials that could simplify it and as well as visual aids. It was also hard to get students to be interested in the material and some of the practice materials related more to photosynthesis. What I do differently is spend another full day just on cellular respiration and try to relate it more to the students. I think the food web activity that I did after the unit might have been good in this section because cellular respiration does help us as humans break down our food and create ... • 3. Tyco Scandal Essay Part 1 Facts of the Case Prior to the Tyco scandal, the company was one of America s largest conglomerates, with operating revenues of 38 billion dollars and 240,000 employees, worldwide. Tyco Laboratories began operations in 1960, performing experimental work for the U.S. government. The firm went public in 1964 and quickly expanded, mostly by acquisition, to exploit the commercial applications of its work. Dennis Kozlowski joined the company in 1975 as an assistant controller. The company subsequently shifted its focus from growth to profits within its three primary divisions: fire protection, electronics, and packaging. Kozlowski joined Tyco s board in 1987 and became president and chief operating officer two years later. Kozlowski ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The remainder of the 250 top managers resigned shortly after. C. How was the scandal uncovered and by whom? The situation began to unfold when the Securities and Exchange Commission was probing into a restatement of the company s stock price. Kozlowski s business practices raised some eyebrows. In 1999, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) initiated an inquiry into Tyco s practices that resulted in a restatement of the company s earnings. In January, 2002, questionable accounting practices came to light. Tyco had forgiven a $19 million, no interest loan to Kozlowski in 1998 and had paid the CEO s income taxes on the loan. It was found that he company s stock price had been overrated, and that the CEO and CFO had sold 100 million dollars worth of shares, and then stated to the public that he was holding them, which was a misrepresentation and misled the investors. The major conspiracy was uncovered by Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau, who was investigating Kozlowski for income tax evasion for some fine art work that he had purchased. As Morgenthau kept digging into the record keeping of Tyco and Kozlowski, it was determined that there were other situations that had occurred, such as a 10 million dollar loan that was totally forgiven by Tyco, and all interest was billed to the corporation. It became apparent on January ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Competitive Analysis of Business Cycles Institutional Affiliation Competitive Analysis Business Cycles Labor is an important factor of production for all firms. Business information is not perfect at Wal Mart Stores: economic experts are not dismayed or surprised with the unemployment rates at the stores. Employees at Wal Mart stores are likely to be affected by frictional unemployment. This occurs at a result of everyday changes in the company s economic structure, which is likely to lead to the death of the firm. Employees at Wal Mart are likely to get tired of the old bosses and old jobs. Bosses at Wal Mart find the claim that subordinates are producing unsatisfactory work: workers are likely to enter and re enter at Wal Mart (Peterson, Fabozzi, 2009). Structural unemployment occurs frequently at Wal Mart because the firm does not hire qualified candidates for their jobs. Workers are required to perform any jobs and are paid less for their jobs. The company s minimum wage is extremely thus precipitating structural unemployment. Supervisors have a tendency of upsetting other workers and amounts to drop down in production and amount of work done. Other workers have proven to be mentally retarded: the company spends much time on supervision than production (Power, 2010). Statistics will not reveal the rate of structurally unemployed people at Wal Mart. This is because such people are likely to gain the conviction that they can never be employed by Wal Mart thus stops trying. Wal Mart has realized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Community In The Deaf Community The Deaf community is comprised of people of a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds, as Deafness prevails around the world; discriminating against none. The Deaf community grows continually. As a hearing person learning about the community, it s distinctive culture and how to communicate in ASL, I am developing myself and discovering my fairly new position within the Deaf community. Firstly, I feel that the community itself is important in learning societal expectations and background knowledge. For this, I feel I am beginning to understand the true nature of the community, and why it is the way it is. For instance, the Deaf community is collective, unlike the hearing community, which is individualistic. While I understand this as a fact, it is difficult to adjust and truly understand this idea and the implications it may hold. In addition, I have noticed a sort of hierarchy within the Deaf community, wherein certain members tend to be cherished to a higher degree, despite Deaf people generally not bothering to hold a candle to one another s careers, economic ranking, etc. to determine ranking. I feel that these cherished members are strong leaders and advocates in the Deaf community. Hearing members of the community do not appear to have much in the way of ranking instead, they use their position to voice Deaf people s positions, and point the media towards Deaf members of the community. As well, there are Social Behaviour topics within the Deaf community. While the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Controversy Surrounding The Church Essay Leithart begins this book by talking about the controversy surrounding the church in the 4th century. Athanasius, a young man brought up in a pagan household, was taught to fear the Lord from a man named Alexander from a young age. Athanasius main opponent during his lifetime was to discount Arianism, a heresy that tried to propose the subordination of the Son to the Father, a view that outright denied the eternal generation of the Son, making Jesus less than God. The Arians believed that the Father exists prior to the Son, since the Son is not eternal, that is, not timelessly self subsistent to the Father. This is to say that the Father does not eternally generate the Son, but instead came into being at a certain point in history, a blatant heresy that was corrected by Athanasius and the Church council in the 4th century. Athanasius believed that Jesus was shepherd, high priest...Passover Sacrafice, which manifests itself now in the living incarnate son of Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique, however, in the fact that he is the all sustaining high priest without transition and without succession. Athanasius also believed that Jesus is eternally generated by the father, and that Jesus, along with the father, is unoriginate, from alpha to omega. Leithart states that the Arians dishonor God by describing Jesus as originate, while Athanasius equates Jesus with God and the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity. There are four primary paradigms that Athanasius finds in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Life Everyday technology and scientific discoveries are being made in the field of aging. In a society obsessed with staying young, one must ask themselves: When is life too long? In these next two articles, we examine and analyze the benefits, side effects and the complications that come with living longer lives than we are accustomed too. These articles are Who wants to live forever? Three arguments against extending the human lifespan. By Martien A. M. Pijnenburg and Carlo Leget and Science Can Help Us Live Longer, But How Long Is Too Long? by Randy Rieland. The first article discusses three arguments against the idea of humans living longer lives. While the second article considers the pros and cons of living a longer life and why most people refuse comply. Even though, both articles present great arguments and a thorough understanding of the subject they discuss, Pinenburg s extensive research, experience and credentials make his article the favorable choice to write a research paper on. Both articles present similar arguments on the same subject, nevertheless, they demonstrate contrasting styles of writing. The first article Science Can Help Us Live Longer, But How Long Is Too Long? by Randy Rieland has a more simplistic writing style and takes a more laid back approach. Rielands article appeals to a wider audience. He includes photos and writes from the perspective of the average middle class citizen. The first examples he mentions is, While 80 percent of those ... • 12. Cry, The Beloved Country, By Alan Paton In South Africa, the plight of apartheid tore apart communities, families, and individuals. It was a social concern that came under increasing attack and response as apartheid reached its zenith in the middle of the 20th century. It was not unlike segregation and the Jim Crow mentality that prevailed in the United States; with its ancient roots and adverse effects. Indeed, one is curiously reminded of Harper Lee s well known novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, and its role in trying to formulate an escape from that system. An escape with various routes, but an escape that interestingly calls back to the nature of innocence and child like questions. It is in this way that Alan Paton s enduring novel, Cry, The Beloved Country, takes on a unique and refreshing approach to a basic question: that of the equality and dignity of all people. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Paton exudes frequent references to childhood, a devout religiosity, and of course, a return to simple questions; all of which contribute the idea of innocence and a certain naiveté that contribute significantly to Paton s message. Extended and found in abundance, the warmth and almost reassurance of children provides a foundation and almost stronghold throughout the novel. Both of the central characters around who the story is centralized are old men, but both of them experience a journey that calls to mind the idea that one is never quite finished growing up. The newness of Kumalo s journey (with both exciting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Being There By Jerzy Kosinski Being There is a book that takes a deep dive into philosophical thought and touches on many of the branches of philosophy. The author, Jerzy Kosinski, tells the story in such a way that many parallels can be drawn between: epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and politics and events or ideas that are addressed in the book. By looking at the idea that we don t have to be known by others to exist as well as that knowledge is in all of us, it is easy to see how the book touches on the fact that we are all capable of making the right choices and that maybe the best government policies can come from natural things as well. This is important because Being There dives into the major philosophical ideas of existence and the decisions made throughout daily life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After exhausting all resources and seeing that there is no information on either him at all they claim that, The man doesn t seem to have existed until he moved into Rand s house three days ago (131). By Kosinski creating the idea that Chance doesn t exist at all it makes the reader think about what actually makes a person. This is where metaphysics comes into to play for the answer to that question. One of the most famous philosophers, Plato, defined that a person exists as long as he thinks I think therefore I am . Even though he doesn t exist in any records he still is a being because he is seen throughout the book thinking and making actions, which according to Plato means he exists. Thus driving home an overarching themes that it is not earthly possessions that define a human, but instead our ability to think and not what information the government has on ... I enjoyed the video and I think that the speaker explained her information about adding words to the dictionary well. I try to restrict my acronyms and slang usage unless I m talking to people who understand them seeing as they are not in the dictionary. I was taught that whatever is in the dictionary are the only words that I should use. I m sure I heard a teacher say once (or more) that you cannot make up words or that s not a real word. (NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole. Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection, and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means, this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers) also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. In the end the offender may die in prison, so there is no reliable data that the death penalty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Duchess s power greedy brothers, Ferdinand and The Cardinal forbid her sister to remarry. The play is an unconventional Renaissance tragedy as the protagonist focuses on a female character rather than a male. (Pacheco, 2012, p69) This essay focuses on Webster s use of distinctive features of language. This passage is important because it displays the violent and tragic scene of the Duchess s execution and torture. The scene occurs after the Duchess encounters a theatrical spectacle delivered by her brother Ferdinand, as his way of punishing and torturing her (Pacheco, 2012, p169) The dramatic function this serves is that it reveals a violent and painful death to the audience, made all the more shocking and tragic with her welcoming death and believing, to meet such excellent company/In th other world. (Webster, 2004, p159) Webster employs dramatic irony at this point as she thinks Antonio is dead and the audience know this is an act of torture and so this illustrates the tragedy of the situation. The extract starts with the Duchess calming Cariola after it is revealed that the Duchess will be killed and she says, Peace, it affrights not me. (Webster, 2004, p155) Her response is shocking as death does not affright (Webster, 2012, p155) her and she is attempting to put Cariola s mind at peace (Webster, 2004, p155) rather than ... Our society is centered on media, it is the most influential factor in constructing our culture, but is it a positive culture? This is because the media is profit driven and has developed its own code of ethics of anything goes . • 26. The Negative Effects Of Drug Prohibition Numerous researchers contend that drug prohibition policies actually create more issues than are solved. The negative effects of drug restriction policies include: negative health effects, increased drug effects, crimes at home and abroad, increased violence, misuse of assets and resources, violation of civil rights and excess on criminal and government systems. Heavy emphasis on upholding criminal restrictions on drug creation and selling was also significantly influencing the productivity of illegal drug markets and increasing the development and operations of groups that carry out crimes, corrupt powers, and undermine the rules and laws in numerous countries. Bertram et al. states that drug related crimes is not necessarily the result of drug use but rather of the conditions under which people are constrained, by drug prohibition policies, to purchase and sell drugs. The sorts of unlawful acts and crimes related to drugs are, to a great extent, made by drug policies. Laws that make drug ownership illegal, create the largest amount of drug criminals. Different crimes, for example, violent acts and burglary, are created by underground markets (black markets) in which drugs are traded. Our government is ensuring the monopoly of the black market by restricting the utilization of non prescribed drugs. There is a great interest for which there must be a great supply and the present laws prohibiting drug exchange and usage encourage the development of these underground markets. ... Lastly, although Bob Bennett, the finance director, said the credit crunch that was obviously coming should have led to more restrained [mortgage] volumes. in February 2007, managers of banks did not believe that rising interest rates would affect lending (Brummer, 2008, p.10). Moreover, another reason is the changing of the UK economic structure. From 1945, significant sectors were run by the state, because the Labour Government stated that the economy must be centrally managed. However, it was a big challenge for the local government to run them efficiently because of a limited budget. In order to solve this problem, Conservative governments transferred some state industries to private sectors from 1979 to 1997. After that, the Labour Government also accepted privatization. Nowadays, there is a free market economy in the United Kingdom (Oakland, 2006). That means the UK government plays a neutral role in its administration and legislation of economic activity. Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes.
