Summary Of The NovelThe Assault By Henry Mulisch
In the novel, The assault, Henry Mulisch s narrative style allows the readers to dig a lot deeper than to
just skim through the pages. By allowing the readers to put themselves inside the story, he brings out
in his novel the true meaning of what a human goes through and how they cope with tragedies from a
serious life event; in this case, a violent assault. By reading Mulisch s novel you get to see inside
Anton s miseries and see his life from a different perspective. Anton is constantly looking for
reassurance in his life for what happened to him in his violent childhood. The violence that had
happened to him has made him suppress his memories and he does not seek to find the true answers to
what had happened that horrible day. He tries to numb himself from his past and push through life to
try to live normally while trying to push past his feelings of his violence. While Anton struggles with
life and his suppressed memories, he faces several aspects of life throughout the time has helped him
stitch in the missing pieces of the violent occurrences of the assault. This brings himself one step
closer to coming to piece with all his memories each time he breaks down a piece of that distance that
he has formed between that life event and himself. This being said, Henry Mulisch shows the readers
how Anton eventually comes to terms with his suppressed memories of his violence from his past with
time.
The main aspect of the novel, The Assault, is the violence that has come upon Anton during his
childhood. The night of the murder of his family has been a heavy memory that has been sitting deep
inside his mind over the years. During the night of the assault, Anton mutters the words For I was born
with bad luck and I ll die with bad luck... (13) This passage is significant to the rest of the novel
because it gives an idea to the readers what kind of misery and misfortune Anton will encounter
throughout his life during each page of this novel. At first, Anton does not accept the violence that has
happened to him and is not willing to move on from his past. He does not want to face the memories
that have brought him such misery throughout his life. The memories of the violent assault are much
more painful to Anton

Social Class In To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
Maycomb was in a phase of diversity. In the beginning the story, readers learn about the state of
Maycomb. One of the main things that are apparent is the economic classes of Maycomb. In the story,
Jem tells the reader about social class when he explains it to his sister Scout, There s four kinds of
folks in the world. There s the ordinary kind like us and the neighbors, there s the kind like the
Cunninghams in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the Negroes (page 226).
Maycomb may have been divided because of the trial, but economic class also had to do with it. To

There were two main lower class families in To Kill A Mockingbird. The Ewell s and the Cunningham
s. Both families were very poor. The Ewell s being the lowest of the two. The readers learn about the
Cunninghams after Scout gets in trouble at school with Miss Caroline. Scout notices that the
Cunninghams do not have lunch and that they cannot even borrow a quarter. Scout argues with Miss
Caroline when Miss Caroline tells Walter, Here s a quarter she said to Walter. Go and eat downtown
today. You can pay me back tomorrow. (page 19). Walter did not accept her money. Someone in the
classroom told Scout, Go on and tell her, Scout. (page 19). Scout seemed to not want to tell Miss
Caroline. Especially because Scout already had got into some trouble that day. However Miss
Caroline addressed Scout in front of the whole classroom saying, What is it, Jean Louise? Scout
replied to her by saying, Miss Caroline, he s a Cunningham. (page 20) Scout was attempting to say
that he was lying to her. It was confirmed that they were one of the poorest families in

The Creation Of Nasa On Space Exploration And Its Impact...

Lastly, NASA had to add to the rockets to make them better as well as the command module. The

The Heart And The Heart Of The Human Heart
The human heart is the one organ that powers the entire body. Without it we wouldn t be able to do the
simplest functions. Simple things like talking, walking, and even breathing relies on the heart
pumping. Pumping blood into all the different parts of the body allows the circulatory system to
supply oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide and other wastes.
The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s circulatory
pump. There are four chambers that make up the heart. The upper chambers are called the atrium and
the lower chambers are the ventricle. A wall of muscle called the septum separates the two sides of the
heart. Attached to each chamber is a valve. The valves open and close to let the blood flow in only one
direction. These valves are actual flaps that are located on each end of the two ventricles. The right
side of the heart is responsible for taking all the deprived oxygen blood and making it rich again. The
left side pumps all the oxygenated blood out into the rest of the body.
All the great things the heart does for the body and it only takes one wrong thing to happen to the
heart to affect the entire body. Heart attacks is the leading enemy against the heart, it affects more than
a million Americans each year. The heart needs a constant supply of oxygen rich blood to nourish it.
The coronary arteries provide the heart with oxygen supply. The body produces Calcium, fatty matter,
proteins, and

Conflict And Violence Between Abrahamic Religions
The history of conflict and violence between the Abrahamic religions has a long and tragic tradition.
Despite their reasons for disagreement and differences, these three religions have many things in
common. Followers of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are monotheists, meaning they belive in only
one God. All three religons have overlapping fugures like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Perhaps the
moset notable of these figures is Abraham. jews consider Abraham their founder as well as their
ancestor. CChristians think of Abrahm as an ancestor of Jesus, both spiritually as well as physically

Despite their reasons for disagreementJudaism is almost the same thing as the oOld Testament in the
Christian, or Gospal bible. The Qur;an (Islam) states God revealed the Torah and Gospel as a guide for
people, just as the Qur an is a guide for Muslims. In all three of the religions theirr sacred texts are
ysed for worship and prayer. The sabbath, a day for rest and prayer is celebrated in some form by all
the Abrahamic religions. Anouther way these religions are similar is they all have a holiday, or period
of time when they musst give up something. For cChristians thes period is Kknown as Lent.. Lent is
where each person must give up something to represent Jesus giving jis life for mankind. Islam does
something like Lent, called fasting. This is where Muslims don t eat while the sun is up for the monthe
of Ramadan. Jews have a time called the Days of Repentance where in order to be forgivine by God,
tthey can do good deeds, or sacrifice somthing in a Charitable act. All three of the religions have
similar places of worship, where they either pray, or listen to a religious leader. For Jews this place is

The Importance Of Volunteering In My Community
Community hours; people hear of it and they complain and groan. When people think of volunteering
their time, they would much rather turn a blind eye and walk away. What most people don t know is
that by involving yourself with one s community it can cause a great impact, this impact is necessary
for our communities to grow and become better; however I became one of those individuals who lost
interest in contributing to my community once I began to attend college, I thought to myself that I
didn t have the time or the time that was available I would much rather put it to use doing something
of my liking. Thankfully this semester gave me the opportunity to return to the volunteering in my
community and it made me have a realization. It being an academic necessity to work in my
community I decided to volunteer at a local animal shelter. Taking this opportunity for my classes and
work with animals, it became beneficial for me at the end. Which I have no regret at all. The Humane
Society of Greater Miami was first choice I thought of when volunteering. My friends recommended
me this location after doing their hours in high school. At first I was hesitant of volunteering at this,
because I had no background experience with dogs. Veterinary is my major that I been aiming for ever
since middle school. Living in apartment my only experience was my pet birds and livestock which I
work at a farm. Dogs and birds are completely two different animals as one obviously can fly and the

The Cultural Experience Of The Biennale Of Sydney
If each era posits its own view of reality, what is ours? Stephanie Rosenthal
Sydney s 20th Biennale is entitled The future is already here it s just not evenly distributed, where it
explores the ideas about technology, virtual reality, science fiction and the ways in which individuals
and communities are living in an increasingly digital and technological world. This theme was
inspired by an American Canadian science fiction writer. The artistic director, Stephanie Rosenthal
investigates the relationship we have with technology and the power it holds to transport us to another
world allowing new concepts and opportunities to arise however it also removes us from our
environment and physical bodies.
The aims of the Biennale of Sydney is to allow inventive and creative experimentation to be explored
and to challenge the norms of predictable artmaking practices. The Biennale advocates a real cultural
experience through combining the many different artworks created by many different artists
instigating a global conversation about art. The Biennale occurs every two years in Sydney and brings
such a cultural experience to the Sydney.
The 20th Biennale of Sydney is presented in seven main venues around Sydney and each location is
known as an embassy , where they display different ideas however are connected. Having the
exhibition spread over these venues is beneficial giving the audience variety in choice and a different
experience depending on the venue. The

Can Mindfulness Interventions Help People Who Suffer From...
Can mindfulness interventions help people who suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain?
Matthew Rodda
A literature review
Summary
Sadly, for some patients chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) can feel like a life sentence. All to often
in clinical settings we see patients who psychologically combine chronic pain with resistance, the
outcome often being suffering, this suffering, however, is a choice. Whilst there are behavioural and
psychological components involved, recent research has looked into various patient led forms of self
help or management of pain, one such method being mindfulness. Although limited, the current
evidence in this field suggests that there is a place for such interventions for the acceptance or
management of pain in chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Further research may wish to look at the
quality of research into this area including a superior level of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to
test pain acceptance specific mindfulness interventions in matched subjects.
Key Words. Pain acceptance, Pain management, Mindfulness, Chronic pain, Mindfulness Based Stress
Reduction, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness Based Pain Management, Mindfulness
Meditation.

Comparing Two Cultures As An Insider
This portion will compare two cultures from an emic perspective. I will examine similarities and
differences within the two cultures as an insider, solely based on my personal experiences and
scholarly research. I will express cultural relativism throughout this portion of the paper and will
refrain from using opinionated or judgmental language. Prior to learning about these cultures I had
preconceived thoughts about these cultures with little to no knowledge, not only from an etic
perspective, but also from not being an insider. It took first hand experience for me to understand
practices and rituals of their culture and reasoning s behind them. Having an open mind and not
passing judgment on another social group are two things that enabled me to have a sense of
understanding when learning about different societies and cultures. The people of the Middle East
region live a simple life much like the majority of Americans, except for the lack of electricity,
running water and technology, depending on the locality of the social group. Families farm their land
growing sources of food and poppy to trade and barter with others within the community. The
households that live in the more rural regions rely on their land and harvest for survival. Living with
the local populace of the Helmand Province of Afghanistan from October 2009 to May 2010, I learned
a lot about the Afghani culture and the challenges the members of the Helmand Province community

New Hampshire Republican Primary Election
On September 9, 2014, three individuals voted in the New Hampshire Republican primary election.
Leon Rideout, a candidate for the New Hampshire House of Representatives, proudly photographed
his ballot, indicating that he had voted for himself, and posted it to twitter. Brandon Ross, another
candidate for a place in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, also took a picture of his
marked ballot, a memento he would post as a challenge to Attorney General s Office. Finally, Andrew
Langlois, a New Hampshire voter, posted a picture of his vote, in which he demonstrated his distaste
for the Republican field by writing in the name of his deceased dog. Each individual was promptly
informed that he was being investigated for posting a picture of his ballot on social media, a violation
of New Hampshire s recent amendment to section 359:35, I of the New Hampshire Revised Statutes,
prohibition shall include taking a digital image or photograph of his or her marked ballot and
distributing or sharing the image via social media or by any other means (RSN § 359:35, I). Violating
the statute could result in a fine of up to $1,000 (Hannon). As a result, the American Civil Liberties

The Aeneid Betrayal
A major theme throughout book 4 of The Aeneid is the idea of love. This theme not only deals with
love, but the betrayal of love. Two sisters, Dido and Anna, both feel betrayed respectively. Dido feels
betrayed by the man she loves, Aeneas, when he leaves her for Italy and also Anna by the untimely
death of her sister. While these sisters feel this betrayal by a person they loved, Anna is the more
justified in her feeling of betrayal because of the love she had for her sister and had right reasoning for
her betrayal. The bond that these two sisters had is one reason for Anna s justification. The bond of
siblings is a strong one. Like Paris was to Oenone, Dido was Anna s playmate on the hill (Tennyson
17). Anna and Dido were close to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Dido was betrayed by the man she loved, she believed that they were married. Dido and Aeneas
did engage in the marital act while stuck in a cave one night, but they never actually married. One of
Dido s main reasons for feeling betrayed was because she saw Aeneas leaving as her husband
divorcing her when she asks Aeneas Nec te noster amor ne te data dextera quondam?... Cui me
moribundam deseris hospes , meaning, Will my love not hold you, nor the right hand I once gave
you?... My guest, since that s all that is left of me from the name husband (Aeneid 307 08, 323). While
Dido did love Aeneas, she does not have the right justification for feeling betrayed that her husband is
leaving her, because they were never married. Anna had right reasoning for her betrayal because she
had been doing something Dido wanted her to do, build a funeral pyre. Dido, however, did not tell
Anna that she would never see her sister again and also that she was assisting in her own sister s
suicide when Anna says Hoc illud, germania, fuit? Me fraude petebas? Hoc rogus iste mihi, hoc ignes
araeque parabant? So this was the meaning of it, sister? Did you aim to cheat me? This pyre of yours,

Biblical Viewpoint Research Paper
Biblical Viewpoint Genesis 2:24 (NIV) says, That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is
united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Males and females are different but God made them
different for the purpose of completion and unity rather than any sort of domination over one another.
God created men and women to be partners and to reflect his love. Genesis 1:27 (NIV) says, So God
created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created
them. God did not discriminate when he created men and women; not the were made in His image.

Theme Of Sexism In King Kong

Genre Film Essay
Sexism in King Kong Sexism that occurs in modern cinema today is typically added with intent; done
for the purpose of the movie, as if to set the time of the movie. Sexism can make the audience feel
quite strange and uneasy about a movie, and can greatly affect how the audience perceives it. Older
genre films that include ideals regarding sexism may not have been done for the purpose of setting the
scene of the movie, but rather sexism was incorporated in the script without a second guess, mostly
because of the way society was shaped and normed during that time period. An example of sexism
generated in a film that is derived by the influence of society is in Merian Cooper and Ernest
Schoedsack s King Kong (1933); the basis of the entire movie is off of sexist idealism. In this film,
sexism rides with the plot of the story, for the basic final goal is men trying to save the female. There
are numerous scenes in the film in which a male character is speaking towards a female in a
demeaning tone. Sexism as a general term is discrimination on the basis of a person s gender. At the
beginning of the film, a director, Carl Denham, is on a quest searching for the perfect actress to star in
his documentary. His idea for the documentary is going on an adventure to search for King Kong, and
then to capture him on tape. Denham argues that he absolutely must find a woman specifically to be a
part of his film, but only because of her

Aristotle Voluntary Or Involuntary
Virtue, then, is about feelings and actions. These receive praise or blame when they are voluntary, but
pardon, sometimes even pity, when they are involuntary (Nicomachean Ethics Book III 1109b).
Aristotle believed that every action one partakes in is considered to be either voluntary or involuntary,
and that for each circumstance an action is looked upon differently. Although, Aristotle brings up an
astounding point: some actions may have the ability to be mixed , meaning they are both voluntary
and involuntary actions. But now consider actions done because of fear of greater evils, or because of
something fine ( Nichomachean Ethics Book III 1110a 4 5). Actions performed under threat brought
up many conflicts in Aristotle s argument. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through defining what Aristotle thought to be involuntary, he was able to define the voluntary.
Finding that a voluntary act must be known by he/she performing the act, and must be originated by
him/her. For example, if one is to choose to take an action such as to eat a cookie, this action has been
processed in their own mind, and decided without any outside pressure causing it to be a voluntary
action. ...For, presumably, it is not correct to say that action caused by emotion or appetite is
involuntary. For, first of all, on this view none of the other animals will ever act voluntarily; nor will
children... (Nicomachean Ethics Book III 1111a 24 27). He states a fact to say that if every action done
out of instinct was considered to be involuntary then many actions which are considered voluntary
would no longer be considered so. While involuntary actions are caused by something that could
cause pain, voluntary actions are said to be caused my pleasure. Next, among all the actions caused by
appetite or emotion do we do none of them voluntarily? Or do we do the fine actions voluntarily and
the shameful involuntarily? (Book III 1111a 28 30). Aristotle states that it is absurd to think the things
we want are involuntary. He states that this is because some

The Ethical Theory Of Ethical Theories Essay
Ethical theories are concepts or moral values that dictate whether choices are right or wrong. The two
ethical theories that are the most prominent in society are Utilitarianism and Deontology.
Utilitarianism is a theory that judges the value of the action as good or bad based on the consequences
of the deed, while Deontology believes the motive of the act is more important. When determining the
value of the decisions, the variables are based on the guidelines of each ethical theory. This includes
providing the basis of how to make logical decisions founded on ethical reasoning. Unfortunately,
there are many situations where individual s rights are threatened due to unethical and unmoral
situations like sexual harassment in the workplace. To prevent similar situations from occurring,
individuals must be able to fully understand when to apply the use of ethics to decision making. For
this type of mindset to take place, the public needs to be educated on the different types of ethical
ideologies, and know how to approach situations based on ethical solutions. Once the public is aware
of the ethical theories and how to avoid unethical situations, there will a decreased amount of sexual
harassment in the workplace. Utilitarianism, also known as consequentialism, is a theory where
actions are considered good or bad depending on the consequences of the actions, not the motives. In
Utilitarianism, the main goal of the theory is to maximize the most amount of good for all people.

Essay Juggling
A Princeton researcher, Les Fehme (Brain/Mind Bulletin vol. 8, no. 9. May 1983), suggest we can
optimize our overall performance in life by broadening our focus. Juggling is one excellent way to do
that. He claims most people have a narrow focus, a lack of awareness of their own body sensations or
emotions. This narrow focus can be very absorbing and useful, as when talking on the telephone,
driving a motorcycle or getting a massage. It is as if nothing else exists except that. When learning
how to juggling, the narrow focus can be directed at a certain ball or pin. This narrow focus agrees
with observations that we live in a society which sees things as fragments rather than holistic. But
things are changing. And just maybe, juggling is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only that, but according to a test performed at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, lefties
scored higher in creativity than right handers regardless of age. It went on to explain four aspects of
creativity flexibility, fluency, originality and elaboration.
Since the right hemisphere is normally associated with creativity, then any activity which helps to
awaken this suppressed hemisphere is certainly welcome. Enter juggling. Who could argue juggling
does not use both sides of the brain? Both hands are used in juggling, aren t they? If an accomplished
juggler now wants to learn a new trick, once again the focus must become narrow, the ball or pin must
capture the attention (enter left brain activity). Like a beginning new juggler, he or she must focus on
throwing a double flip with the right hand before the left hand can throw a pin behind the back.
In teaching people to juggle, they learn faster when asked to tell each time they have done something
wrong. At first, they have no awareness of wrong movements. Once they recognize them, they can
eliminate them. Therefore it is essential to practice in order to learn juggling. The simplest movement
requires complex electrical/chemical circuitry within the brain. The study of this circuitry is fast
becoming an important field of neuroscience. Perhaps someday neurosurgeons will electronically
hook up a juggler and a monitor and the neuron action, which travels back and forth between the two
hemispheres

Roy Dicker Feminism
When people hear the term the personal is political, they do not grasp it the same way feminists did
during a time of repression towards women. Most feminists understood the concept and accepted it
whole heartedly, as with the term they believed that it could bring about social change. If this ideal

Chlamydia Trachoma
Chlamydia trachomatis is the bacterium that causes trachoma a chronic contagious infection of the
cornea and conjunctiva and that trachoma is the world s leading preventable cause of blindness.
Trachoma is caused and transmitted through multiple routes, including contaminated fingers, flies and
the use of dirty face cloth (Hopkins et al., 2008, p.476; Dolin et al., 1997, p. 1511; Thylefors, 1992,
p.90; Resnikoff, et al, 2004, p. 844). All of which are hygiene related, such as direct infection by flies,
person to person from clothing used to wipe children s faces and by hand to face contact. Lack of
facial cleanliness, poor access to water supplies, lack of good pit latrines and a high number of flies
are some of risk factors for the disease.

Qualities And Knowledge Of A Successful Restaurant Business
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to help explain some of the qualities and knowledge that are needed to
operate a successful restaurant business. After careful research, there were seven aspects that
identified themselves as the most pertinent concepts in effectively achieving this process, although not
limited. These notions were as followed; having a good chef, concept and location to make any
restaurant astatically pleasing to the demographic of choice, with out these effects no restaurant can
have a successful relevant menu or specialty. Also, the monetary aspects of owning a business and the
mistakes that many have made, incorrect; purchasing procedure being an immense aspect of budgetary
demise. Keeping the customer and employees in thought, as well as pleased, was also a concept that
shined its importance to the execution of a business. This paper also highlights the importance of
leadership and how to conduct ones self competently in a leadership position as well as the difference
characteristics of a leader that set one person aside from another.
How to Own a Successful Concept Restaurant
Restaurants can be a risky business to start up. Fifty nine percent fail in the first three years. That s an
alarming rate. There are even several television shows that are centered on these failures. Why is this
number so high, especially in an age where almost nobody cooks at home anymore? How can we

Vitamin B Pill Synthesis Lab Report
Purpose In this laboratory, the mass of riboflavin in a vitamin B pill was determined by using the
florescence spectrometry technique. Analytically Relevant Chemical Level Processes A photon of
energy is, first, supplied by external light source. This creates an excited electronic singlet state. The
excited state exists for only a finite time. During this amount of this extremely short amount of time,
the fluorophore undergoes conformational changes while also being subject to a multitude of possible
interactions with its molecular environment. This process caused the fluorophore to lose some energy.
This yield a relaxed singlet excited state from which the fluorescence emission originates. A photon of
energy is, then, emitted, turning the fluorophore back to its ground state. The energy of this photon is
lower producing a longer wavelength. Instrumentation Procedure ... Show more content on

How would you feel if your uncle took the throne of a kingdom that your dad was supposed to have,
and wanted to kill you after just being born? This is what the Greek hero, Jason, had to go through. He
was born of royalty, selfless, and had extreme feats. He was accompanied by some heroes on his
journey, including, Heracles and Atalanta. Many people, in the beginning, thought he was a weird

Octavian and Marc Antony- The Duel of Words and Deeds
Octavian and Marc Antony The Duel of Words and Deeds Following the Julius Caesar s death at the
hands of the Senate, Octavian and Marc Antony propelled themselves to the pinnacle of Roman
power. First joining together during the Second Triumvirate, these men represented the true power
players of Roman politics. As their alliance fractured, both Romans resorted to propaganda to gain an
edge over the other. Through insulting the other and polishing their own image, both Antony and
Octavian looked to capture absolute Roman dominance. Even before their eventual war in 32 B.C.E.,
the men engaged in a duel of words in deeds. This paper will first overview the formation and
disintegration of Second Triumvirate between Marc Antony, Marcus Lepidus, and Octavian. Its main
portion will divulge the devious propaganda, leading up to the war in 32 B.C.E., used by Marc Antony
and Octavian to destroy the other politically. Plutarch s Antony and Suetonius The Lives of the
Caesars The Deified Augustus(De Vita Caesarum Divus Augustus) will serve as our main guide to this

Infrared Spectral Ranges For Imaging Application
Abstract: Infrared imaging is widely used in biochemical sensing, medical diagnosis, and astronomy.
In this summer High Scholar program, we will develop reflection microscopy working at wide
infrared spectral ranges for imaging application. Reflection microscopy is based on gold coated
parabolic mirrors which make the microscope accessible to visible, infrared, and even terahertz light
without chromatic aberration. Here, we will design and build a reflection microscope, and obtain
visible and infrared images of simple biological samples such as onion cells to study a resolution and
other potential functions of the home built microscope.
Introduction: An optical microscope is an instrument that allows us to view micrometer scale objects
in a larger image. [Carl Zeiss] The microscope uses a compound lens which allows to get maximum
magnification. The compound lens is made up of multiple lenses that have a common axis, allowing
for a high magnification to be possible. The microscope consists of objective lens and eyepiece. The
objective lens is a vital part of a microscope since the lens provides a few different variations of power
for magnification, and the eyepiece magnification power helps multiply the objective lens power,
which will create a large amount of magnification. However, a microscope image is limited by a lens
material. Glass (fused silica) is only transparent to visible light and it cannot be used for infrared light.
Recently, infrared imaging has been used

The Use of Characters in A Man For All Seasons by Robert Bolt
The Use of Characters in A Man For All Seasons by Robert Bolt
In Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons , there is a significant key to the use of characters. Bolt uses
the characters in this play very well and in an unique fashion. Bolt has the character the common man,
who takes the roles as many other characters. This is what makes this play special in its own way. Bolt
uses the common man as other characters which makes the reader really think. He uses the common
man as the narrator, servant, publican or innkeeper, boatman, foreman of the jury, and the executioner.

This is precisely More s tactic, too (Bryfonski,Harris 90). The publicans pub is where Cromwell and
Rich plot their conspiracy on More. Cromwell tells Rich of his deviant plan but, Rich wanted no part.
Cromwell grabbed Rich, sits him down and gives him a proposition that Rich would not refuse. This is
where Rich betrays More. The common man as the role of the boatman is important where as this is
the point in the play that it is unhealthy to know More. When More is out late trying to get home, he
calls for a lone boatman also on his way home. The boatman is off duty but, is willing to take More
home because he believes More will make it worth his while (Bolt 25). More says that there are fixed
rates and he will pay what he always does. The whole way the boatman would not give up. He hassled
More about the rate but, More did not budge. The boatman is just a common man trying to earn some
fast cash. As foreman of the jury, this common man has more power than any one person should have.
The foreman of the jury has the final say to convict Sir Thomas More of treason. With the jury being
poles with hats on them and the foreman of the jury being told what to say, More has no chance of
getting out of these counterfeit charges. The foreman of the jury sentences More to execution without
a second thought. Even though More is a honest man and sticks to what he believes in, this is Bolt s
way of asserting that even under the greatest of pressures man can exist

Monochronic Culture And Western Culture In The Workplace
1. Introduction Have you ever think about you as an eastern people are going to work in the western
country? Do you think you will face a lot of problems not only the weather but also the culture shock?
As we know that western culture and eastern culture is totally different. Not only the life style but also
the working style. There are many different kinds of examples about the culture in the workplace. To
know all the different culture between your own country and other country is important, so that we
will not offend to other people. Today we are going look at the different between western country and
eastern country. 2. Working style 2.1 Time focus It is very common to see employees pick up their
phones every time or even during an important meeting. This is a normal thing you can see in a
policeronic culture. Taiwan is polychronic culture, Taiwanese are emphasis on personal and doing
work more flexibility, they are willing to change the deadline when there is in need. So they can have
long term relationship with their colleagues, managers and partnership. People with monochronic
culture are more concentrate on time and would like to do a thing in one time. They prefer well
organized and stick on their plain. This is how monochronic culture works. (文匯報, 2012) Sweden is
monochronic culture, so employees do not like to be interrupted by phone calls during the meeting or
going to meet others in the meeting. They think this will influence their working schedule. 2.2

the fact about the single gender classes affected on the grades? According to Dr. Beverly L. Hall,
Byron Barnes released a 148 page report in September 2005. This report review discovered pleasing

The best thing in the world to me I think is my video games because it gives me thrill ride of joy. Well

Video games are well known as violent and gruesome and sometimes even dangerous. The reason why
that is because video game companies can do whatever they want because they have so much money

Foreign Minister Alexander Izvolsky Of Russia Essay
In 1908, the leaders of Russia and Austria Hungary arranged to make an agreement that would help
both nations achieve their international goals. Foreign Minister Alexander Izvolsky of Russia was
looking to re establish his country s authority in Europe, which had been damaged after defeat by
Japan in a previous war in the Far East (Trueman C. N., 2015). One goal for Baron Lexa von
Aehrenthal, Foreign Minister of Austria Hungary, was to gain better control of his nation s Balkan
territory. After the revolt in Constantinople by a group called the Young Turks in which they took
control of the city, Austria Hungary feared that Bosnia Herzegovina would be the next to revolt
(Schmitt, 1970; Hamilton Herwig, 2003). Aehrenthal was also looking to prove that his nation was
more than just a satellite of Germany (Trueman C. N., 2015). To achieve the goals of both parties,
Russia agreed to support Austria Hungary in annexing Bosnia Herzegovina and, in turn, Austria
Hungary was to support the Russian use of the Bosporus and Dardanelle Straits, which had previously
been barred. The latter part of this agreement was significant in that it would give Russia the ability to
mobilize its navy from the Black Sea and, as previously mentioned, gain access to the British
dominated Mediterranean. However, this part of the agreement was never carried out. On October 6th
1908, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia Herzegovina, before Russia was able to make its case for the

The Lost Generation By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Loss, wastefulness, and regret are not words that anyone wants to hear. While reading the works of F.
Scott Fitzgerald in Babylon Revisited and of Ernest Hemingway in The Snows of Kilimanjaro these
three words seem to connect to two stories together. In these stories loss, wastefulness, and regret
intertwine in the stories to better explain the struggles that people have to deal with. Both Fitzgerald
and Hemingway were part of what is called the Lost Generation. The Lost Generation was a group of
American writes who moved to Europe because they believed that America had lost all hope and
could never be fixed. In the Lost Generation by Kate O Connor, she says that, The accusation, You are
all a lost generation, referred to the lack of purpose or drive resulting from the horrific disillusionment
felt by those who grew up and lived through the war, and were then in their twenties and thirties.
Having seen pointless death on such a huge scale, many lost faith in traditional values like courage,
patriotism, and masculinity. The aftermath caused these ex pats to write about common themes such
as, Decadence, Gender roles and Impotence, and Idealized past (O Connor). As audiences read stories
written during the twentieth century, they will be able to see these themes. Babylon Revisited by
Fitzgerald, is an example of the twentieth century sense of loss, wastefulness, and regret because
Charlie had to deal with all of those problems. The reader sees this

Black Death
THE BLACK DEATH
Matthew Brown

April 17, y
Around 1339 in northwestern Europe, the population was beginning to outgrow the food supply and a
severe economic crisis began to take place. The winters were extremely cold and the summers were
dry. Due to this extreme weather, very low crops yielded and those that grew were dying. Inflation
became a common occurrence and as famine broke out, people began to worry. The time period of
approximately 1339 to 1346 is now known as the famine before the plague (history). These seven bad
years of weather and famine lead to the greatest plague of all times. In 1347, endemic to Asia, The

But there were others they had forgotten...the children. They were by all means frequent receivers of
the disease and it killed them almost instantly or within a few hours . The children in plague infested
towns had premature exposures which allowed for the disease to affect them physically and mentally.
Once infected, the parents of the children would abandon them on the streets instead because many
could not bear to watch them die (Science National Geographic). The females who contracted the
plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on the family name for generations to
come. The children could not provide for themselves, so they suffered greatly.
As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving. About sixty percent of
the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The monasteries and the clergy suffered the
greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the Churches finest leaders were quitting and some even moved
far away to avoid the problems they were facing. Since many head officials were parting, the Church
panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As the Monks, Nuns, and Friars
continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements lowered. This caused the monasteries to
be run by less educated people, leading to a decline of vernacular. They knew the townspeople felt that

1. Reviewing GM s financial information in GM Exhibit 1 and its stock price in GM Exhibit 2, when
do you first see signs of GM s impending financial distress?
The sign of GM s impending financial distress is first seen in 2005. GM reported a net loss of more
than $10 billion and has continued to post annual losses since that time with losses reaching almost
$31 billion in 2008. GM s cash flow from operations in 2005 was a negative $16.8 billion.
Reviewing GM s stock price, we can see that the stock price also decreased dramatically started in
2004 to 2008. In 2005, GM s stock traded around $19 per share and reached the lowest of $1.45 per
share on March 2009.

There are some factors existing in the United States during 2008 might have accelerated Deloitte
Touche s decision to issue an audit opinion modified to disclose going concern uncertainties.
The Global Financial Crisis or 2008 financial crisis is considered by many economists to have been
the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It resulted in the threat of total
collapse of large financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments, and downturns in
stock markets around the world.
For fiscal year 2008, in addition to General Motors, seven other Fortune 500 companies (Ausbury
Automotive Group, Charter International, Lear Corp, MGM Mirage, Pilgrim s Pride Corporation,
Sonic Automotive, Inc., and TWR Automotive Holdings Corp.) received going concern opinions; no
Fortune 500 companies had received such opinions in 2007. For a broader universe of companies, the

  • 2. Summary Of The NovelThe Assault By Henry Mulisch In the novel, The assault, Henry Mulisch s narrative style allows the readers to dig a lot deeper than to just skim through the pages. By allowing the readers to put themselves inside the story, he brings out in his novel the true meaning of what a human goes through and how they cope with tragedies from a serious life event; in this case, a violent assault. By reading Mulisch s novel you get to see inside Anton s miseries and see his life from a different perspective. Anton is constantly looking for reassurance in his life for what happened to him in his violent childhood. The violence that had happened to him has made him suppress his memories and he does not seek to find the true answers to what had happened that horrible day. He tries to numb himself from his past and push through life to try to live normally while trying to push past his feelings of his violence. While Anton struggles with life and his suppressed memories, he faces several aspects of life throughout the time has helped him stitch in the missing pieces of the violent occurrences of the assault. This brings himself one step closer to coming to piece with all his memories each time he breaks down a piece of that distance that he has formed between that life event and himself. This being said, Henry Mulisch shows the readers how Anton eventually comes to terms with his suppressed memories of his violence from his past with time. The main aspect of the novel, The Assault, is the violence that has come upon Anton during his childhood. The night of the murder of his family has been a heavy memory that has been sitting deep inside his mind over the years. During the night of the assault, Anton mutters the words For I was born with bad luck and I ll die with bad luck... (13) This passage is significant to the rest of the novel because it gives an idea to the readers what kind of misery and misfortune Anton will encounter throughout his life during each page of this novel. At first, Anton does not accept the violence that has happened to him and is not willing to move on from his past. He does not want to face the memories that have brought him such misery throughout his life. The memories of the violent assault are much more painful to Anton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There s the ordinary kind like us and the neighbors, there s the kind like the Cunninghams in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the Negroes (page 226). • 5. The Heart And The Heart Of The Human Heart The human heart is the one organ that powers the entire body. Without it we wouldn t be able to do the simplest functions. Simple things like talking, walking, and even breathing relies on the heart pumping. Pumping blood into all the different parts of the body allows the circulatory system to supply oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and remove carbon dioxide and other wastes. The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s circulatory pump. There are four chambers that make up the heart. The upper chambers are called the atrium and the lower chambers are the ventricle. A wall of muscle called the septum separates the two sides of the heart. Attached to each chamber is a valve. The valves open and close to let the blood flow in only one direction. These valves are actual flaps that are located on each end of the two ventricles. The right side of the heart is responsible for taking all the deprived oxygen blood and making it rich again. The left side pumps all the oxygenated blood out into the rest of the body. All the great things the heart does for the body and it only takes one wrong thing to happen to the heart to affect the entire body. Heart attacks is the leading enemy against the heart, it affects more than a million Americans each year. The heart needs a constant supply of oxygen rich blood to nourish it. The coronary arteries provide the heart with oxygen supply. The body produces Calcium, fatty matter, proteins, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When people think of volunteering their time, they would much rather turn a blind eye and walk away. What most people don t know is that by involving yourself with one s community it can cause a great impact, this impact is necessary for our communities to grow and become better; however I became one of those individuals who lost interest in contributing to my community once I began to attend college, I thought to myself that I didn t have the time or the time that was available I would much rather put it to use doing something of my liking. Thankfully this semester gave me the opportunity to return to the volunteering in my community and it made me have a realization. It being an academic necessity to work in my community I decided to volunteer at a local animal shelter. Taking this opportunity for my classes and work with animals, it became beneficial for me at the end. Which I have no regret at all. The Humane Society of Greater Miami was first choice I thought of when volunteering. My friends recommended me this location after doing their hours in high school. At first I was hesitant of volunteering at this, because I had no background experience with dogs. Veterinary is my major that I been aiming for ever since middle school. Living in apartment my only experience was my pet birds and livestock which I work at a farm. Dogs and birds are completely two different animals as one obviously can fly and the ... • 10. Can Mindfulness Interventions Help People Who Suffer From... Can mindfulness interventions help people who suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain? Matthew Rodda A literature review Summary Sadly, for some patients chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) can feel like a life sentence. All to often in clinical settings we see patients who psychologically combine chronic pain with resistance, the outcome often being suffering, this suffering, however, is a choice. Whilst there are behavioural and psychological components involved, recent research has looked into various patient led forms of self help or management of pain, one such method being mindfulness. Although limited, the current evidence in this field suggests that there is a place for such interventions for the acceptance or management of pain in chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Further research may wish to look at the quality of research into this area including a superior level of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to test pain acceptance specific mindfulness interventions in matched subjects. • 11. Comparing Two Cultures As An Insider This portion will compare two cultures from an emic perspective. I will examine similarities and differences within the two cultures as an insider, solely based on my personal experiences and scholarly research. I will express cultural relativism throughout this portion of the paper and will refrain from using opinionated or judgmental language. Prior to learning about these cultures I had preconceived thoughts about these cultures with little to no knowledge, not only from an etic perspective, but also from not being an insider. It took first hand experience for me to understand practices and rituals of their culture and reasoning s behind them. Having an open mind and not passing judgment on another social group are two things that enabled me to have a sense of understanding when learning about different societies and cultures. The people of the Middle East region live a simple life much like the majority of Americans, except for the lack of electricity, running water and technology, depending on the locality of the social group. Families farm their land growing sources of food and poppy to trade and barter with others within the community. The households that live in the more rural regions rely on their land and harvest for survival. Living with the local populace of the Helmand Province of Afghanistan from October 2009 to May 2010, I learned a lot about the Afghani culture and the challenges the members of the Helmand Province community face daily with the strong ... • 16. Theme Of Sexism In King Kong Henna Maiwand FTVE 205 Loden Genre Film Essay Sexism in King Kong Sexism that occurs in modern cinema today is typically added with intent; done for the purpose of the movie, as if to set the time of the movie. Sexism can make the audience feel quite strange and uneasy about a movie, and can greatly affect how the audience perceives it. Older genre films that include ideals regarding sexism may not have been done for the purpose of setting the scene of the movie, but rather sexism was incorporated in the script without a second guess, mostly because of the way society was shaped and normed during that time period. An example of sexism generated in a film that is derived by the influence of society is in Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack s King Kong (1933); the basis of the entire movie is off of sexist idealism. In this film, sexism rides with the plot of the story, for the basic final goal is men trying to save the female. There are numerous scenes in the film in which a male character is speaking towards a female in a demeaning tone. Sexism as a general term is discrimination on the basis of a person s gender. At the beginning of the film, a director, Carl Denham, is on a quest searching for the perfect actress to star in his documentary. His idea for the documentary is going on an adventure to search for King Kong, and then to capture him on tape. These receive praise or blame when they are voluntary, but pardon, sometimes even pity, when they are involuntary (Nicomachean Ethics Book III 1109b). Aristotle believed that every action one partakes in is considered to be either voluntary or involuntary, and that for each circumstance an action is looked upon differently. Although, Aristotle brings up an astounding point: some actions may have the ability to be mixed , meaning they are both voluntary and involuntary actions. Next, among all the actions caused by appetite or emotion do we do none of them voluntarily? Or do we do the fine actions voluntarily and the shameful involuntarily? (Book III 1111a 28 30). • 18. The Ethical Theory Of Ethical Theories Essay Ethical theories are concepts or moral values that dictate whether choices are right or wrong. The two ethical theories that are the most prominent in society are Utilitarianism and Deontology. Utilitarianism is a theory that judges the value of the action as good or bad based on the consequences of the deed, while Deontology believes the motive of the act is more important. When determining the value of the decisions, the variables are based on the guidelines of each ethical theory. This includes providing the basis of how to make logical decisions founded on ethical reasoning. Unfortunately, there are many situations where individual s rights are threatened due to unethical and unmoral situations like sexual harassment in the workplace. To prevent similar situations from occurring, individuals must be able to fully understand when to apply the use of ethics to decision making. For this type of mindset to take place, the public needs to be educated on the different types of ethical ideologies, and know how to approach situations based on ethical solutions. Once the public is aware of the ethical theories and how to avoid unethical situations, there will a decreased amount of sexual harassment in the workplace. Utilitarianism, also known as consequentialism, is a theory where actions are considered good or bad depending on the consequences of the actions, not the motives. Juggling is one excellent way to do that. He claims most people have a narrow focus, a lack of awareness of their own body sensations or emotions. This narrow focus can be very absorbing and useful, as when talking on the telephone, driving a motorcycle or getting a massage. It is as if nothing else exists except that. When learning how to juggling, the narrow focus can be directed at a certain ball or pin. Who could argue juggling does not use both sides of the brain? Both hands are used in juggling, aren t they? If an accomplished juggler now wants to learn a new trick, once again the focus must become narrow, the ball or pin must capture the attention (enter left brain activity). • 29. Infrared Spectral Ranges For Imaging Application Abstract: Infrared imaging is widely used in biochemical sensing, medical diagnosis, and astronomy. In this summer High Scholar program, we will develop reflection microscopy working at wide infrared spectral ranges for imaging application. Reflection microscopy is based on gold coated parabolic mirrors which make the microscope accessible to visible, infrared, and even terahertz light without chromatic aberration. Here, we will design and build a reflection microscope, and obtain visible and infrared images of simple biological samples such as onion cells to study a resolution and other potential functions of the home built microscope. Introduction: An optical microscope is an instrument that allows us to view micrometer scale objects in a larger image. [Carl Zeiss] The microscope uses a compound lens which allows to get maximum magnification. The compound lens is made up of multiple lenses that have a common axis, allowing for a high magnification to be possible. The microscope consists of objective lens and eyepiece. The objective lens is a vital part of a microscope since the lens provides a few different variations of power for magnification, and the eyepiece magnification power helps multiply the objective lens power, which will create a large amount of magnification. However, a microscope image is limited by a lens material. Glass (fused silica) is only transparent to visible light and it cannot be used for infrared light. The Use of Characters in A Man For All Seasons by Robert Bolt The Use of Characters in A Man For All Seasons by Robert Bolt In Robert Bolt s A Man For All Seasons , there is a significant key to the use of characters. Bolt uses the characters in this play very well and in an unique fashion. Bolt has the character the common man, who takes the roles as many other characters. This is what makes this play special in its own way. Bolt uses the common man as other characters which makes the reader really think. He uses the common man as the narrator, servant, publican or innkeeper, boatman, foreman of the jury, and the executioner. The common man is used in this play as a symbol of just common everyday people with common jobs. These people are not of high class just common people. The common ... Cromwell tells Rich of his deviant plan but, Rich wanted no part. Cromwell grabbed Rich, sits him down and gives him a proposition that Rich would not refuse. This is where Rich betrays More. The common man as the role of the boatman is important where as this is the point in the play that it is unhealthy to know More. When More is out late trying to get home, he calls for a lone boatman also on his way home. The boatman is off duty but, is willing to take More home because he believes More will make it worth his while (Bolt 25). More says that there are fixed rates and he will pay what he always does. The whole way the boatman would not give up. He hassled More about the rate but, More did not budge. The boatman is just a common man trying to earn some fast cash. As foreman of the jury, this common man has more power than any one person should have. The foreman of the jury has the final say to convict Sir Thomas More of treason. With the jury being poles with hats on them and the foreman of the jury being told what to say, More has no chance of getting out of these counterfeit charges. The foreman of the jury sentences More to execution without a second thought. Even though More is a honest man and sticks to what he believes in, this is Bolt s way of asserting that even under the greatest of pressures man can exist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lion, having been starved for the past few days, was looking for a chance to attack. When the lion jumped out, the girl was not afraid. Instead, she walked up to the lion, and held a hand out. • 35. Foreign Minister Alexander Izvolsky Of Russia Essay In 1908, the leaders of Russia and Austria Hungary arranged to make an agreement that would help both nations achieve their international goals. Foreign Minister Alexander Izvolsky of Russia was looking to re establish his country s authority in Europe, which had been damaged after defeat by Japan in a previous war in the Far East (Trueman C. N., 2015). One goal for Baron Lexa von Aehrenthal, Foreign Minister of Austria Hungary, was to gain better control of his nation s Balkan territory. After the revolt in Constantinople by a group called the Young Turks in which they took control of the city, Austria Hungary feared that Bosnia Herzegovina would be the next to revolt (Schmitt, 1970; Hamilton Herwig, 2003). Aehrenthal was also looking to prove that his nation was more than just a satellite of Germany (Trueman C. N., 2015). To achieve the goals of both parties, Russia agreed to support Austria Hungary in annexing Bosnia Herzegovina and, in turn, Austria Hungary was to support the Russian use of the Bosporus and Dardanelle Straits, which had previously been barred. The latter part of this agreement was significant in that it would give Russia the ability to mobilize its navy from the Black Sea and, as previously mentioned, gain access to the British dominated Mediterranean. However, this part of the agreement was never carried out. On October 6th 1908, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia Herzegovina, before Russia was able to make its case for the use of the Straits ... • 36. The Lost Generation By F. Scott Fitzgerald Loss, wastefulness, and regret are not words that anyone wants to hear. While reading the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald in Babylon Revisited and of Ernest Hemingway in The Snows of Kilimanjaro these three words seem to connect to two stories together. In these stories loss, wastefulness, and regret intertwine in the stories to better explain the struggles that people have to deal with. Both Fitzgerald and Hemingway were part of what is called the Lost Generation. The Lost Generation was a group of American writes who moved to Europe because they believed that America had lost all hope and could never be fixed. In the Lost Generation by Kate O Connor, she says that, The accusation, You are all a lost generation, referred to the lack of purpose or drive resulting from the horrific disillusionment felt by those who grew up and lived through the war, and were then in their twenties and thirties. Having seen pointless death on such a huge scale, many lost faith in traditional values like courage, patriotism, and masculinity. The aftermath caused these ex pats to write about common themes such as, Decadence, Gender roles and Impotence, and Idealized past (O Connor). As audiences read stories written during the twentieth century, they will be able to see these themes. Babylon Revisited by Fitzgerald, is an example of the twentieth century sense of loss, wastefulness, and regret because Charlie had to deal with all of those problems. The reader sees this ... The females who contracted the plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on the family name for generations to come. The children could not provide for themselves, so they suffered greatly. As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving. About sixty percent of the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The monasteries and the clergy suffered the greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the Churches finest leaders were quitting and some even moved far away to avoid the problems they were facing. Since many head officials were parting, the Church panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As the Monks, Nuns, and Friars continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements lowered. This caused the monasteries to be run by less educated people, leading to a decline of vernacular.
