• The lighting is very well done and professional. It is important to have good lighting when animating so it looks more realistic. Even when its got a more cartoonish style. Making it look more realistic and detailed makes it look more
professional. Looking professional is important when attracting players, viewers or customers. The more customers it can attract the more money it will make.
• Opens with age rating then goes to bioware logo. The age rating is important because it’s a legal requirement so parents know not to get their underage child a game they shouldn’t be playing. The bioware and EA logo is important so that
people know whos making it and the quality they can expect. It also helps people associate good well made games with the name of the studio. This can help a studios success in the long run.
• Smooth animation is important because it makes the animation look really good and satisfying. A satisfying animation will attract customers to the product.
• Very detailed. This makes it look very professional and as I said before a professional looking product makes customers more likely to buy the product.
• Custom made models. All the models in this trailer are made specifically for this trailer and will probably never be used again. This is expensive but it does vastly improve the quality as its all in the same style choice and they can make it look
what ever way you want and are not confined to the already constructed models.
• Little to no music. This can either take away or add to the experience depending on the tone you are trying to go for. In this I don’t think it works as well as it could.
• Cinematic. The cinematic quality is expensive but it looks really well done and because its so short its affordable. Doing this as a full time animated movie or TV show would have cost a lot more. Looking cinematic gives the viewer a really
good first impression to the game or movie. A good first impression can make people very interested in the product and likely to buy.
• Possibly Made by a 3rd
party. This is an advantage because it allows the studio to work on the game or movie without having to worry about. However, it would probably cost them more money than producing the cinematic in house. Using
a third party might not create it in the way you would like.
• Very professional looking. As I have said several times before looking professional is very important especially as a first impression. it gives it a sense of quality as it shows it has a lot of money behind it and a lot of people working hard on it.
• Misleading about the games story but sets up some of the characters and the enemies of the story without giving anything away. This is an advantage because it can make the viewers enjoy it more if they don’t have any spoilers. Enjoying a
product will increase the likely hood of a customer buying another or a similar product again.
• Logo at the end. This makes sure people know what the trailer is for. People knowing the product and associating the good trailer with that will increase the likely hood of them buying the product.
• Gives you a peak at what the game will be like without spoiling the game. As I said before this is an advantage because spoiling the story or product can ruin someone's enjoyment of it
• Camera moves very well and very realistically. This makes it seem very well done and people like it when things look realistic and detailed. This can make people more interested
• The trailer has a very Mysterious feeling to it. Because you don’t know who they are fighting or who these people are. Especially after the last game ended after you stopped the reapers.
• Looks like it was all made in Maya or a similar 3D software. This software makes it look a lot better than something made in blender as it has a lot more tools and effects which can vastly improve the trailer to industry standard
• The voice acting is done extremely well in this. Good voice acting can be as important as good animation. A poor performance can unimmerse people and remove the enjoyment. Enjoying the game is important because enjoying your
product will most likely make the customer want more
• Lens flares and other good lighting effects make the trailer and animation look so much better. The problem is it can be tempting to overuse lensflares. Overusing lesflares can detract from the experience. A good example of this is 2009 star
trek where lensflares were way overused in an attempt to make it look futuristic, this was parodied and laughed at so much JJ then regretted overusing them and it became a joke. It would be best not to repeat this mistake on any products
produced.
• The Characters look interesting and unique. They are mostly different from characters we have seen before, even with some being new species. Having cool and very interesting characters is very much needed in a product with a story.
Poorly written characters can seriously effect the quality of the product because it is important that these characters feel real so the customer is immersed in the story. If the customer is not immersed in the story it can take away from their
enjoyment and they might not return to buy the next or another product from the same producers or developers.
• The Costumes look really good and the animation really shows them off. Being digital it gives the developers a whole lot more freedom with what the characters can wear. It can be absolutely crazy or as unique as they would like. But being
digital can also cost a lot and take a lot of time. Something as simple as walking can cost a lot more than getting someone and dressing them up in costume for a short scene.
• The Weapons and props used in the trailer look unique but there are some things that can easily be recognized from the last game that have been recreated here. The M8 Assault rifle is just one of them. The new weapons very much look
similar to the already established weapons but they go very well in the new artstyle of the mass effect brand that they went for. These weapons look very futuristic but still stays similar to something that could work in futuristic warfare that
is inspired from real war in modern day.
• The Artstyle looks beautiful. It tries to go for a semi realistic look with a cartoon, simplified side. I think this helps it feel very action packed but very fun and humorous at times. This is something that can only really be established in digital
form because you cant really have an artstyle when recording something live action. Digital artstyles became a essential part of digital media because at the moment we cant 100% replicate how the real world looks like and a lot of the time
to make things super realistic costs a lot of money. A lot of the time the artstyle can look and feel a lot better than a realistic look too. Looking good is important for many products because it helps persuade the customer to buy the product
because of its charm.
• The Colours look really good for this trailer and they are really well picked, each scene has its overall colour but it knows when it have a different colour from time to time. I find colours are more important than we know as they can overn
change a scene based on what we associate with those colours. A sad scene can be overall blue where as an evil scene can be overall red. It can very much help sell the emotion of the scene and this can be really important for the
enjoyment for the customer. As I keep saying the enjoyment is important because it will help decide whether they will buy the next product or if they will simply move on to something else
• The Locations look unique. From the illusive mans base to tutanka, to horizon. Each scene looks different though horizon and tutanka have a similar colour palet in some areas. But the difference is in the changes from tutanka being
surrounded by ancient ruins of a city, to the prefab abandoned buildings of the horizon coleny its very easy to tell the places apart. Telling the places apart helps the viewer or player identify and remember the location better so it doesn’t
just blend in with all the other locations. Remembering parts of the game will help the player be more likely to come back to it for those good memories
• The Fonts they went for in this is different. Especially in the logo. The logo uses a customized bold font at the top with a hole cut into it, bolder fonts are associated with sci-fi thanks to successful franchises like star wars, battlestar galatica
and many more. But the lower half uses a more thinner font, thinner fonts are more used in medieval fantasy or magic thanks to successful franchises like harry potter, lord of the rings and the whitcher. The lower font is still different
though, it still looks a little bold and it doesn’t have any charp edges that spike outwards in New roman times font kinda way. The logo/franchie name is unique and it defiantly helps it stand out from others
• It very much tries to make people want to play the game by intriguing them into it by baiting them with things to try and interest them. This trailer is very effective at that
• This trailer is very much for sci-fi gamers who havent played the previous game before. Targeting these people to try and tempt them to join the already existing fanbase. Expanding the fanbase is a very good idea because it increases the
amount of people who will buy your products.
• Uses lines recorded specially for the trailer. as I talked about before this helps the trailer not give away too much. Specially recorded lines can be very good but it will cost more than it would to re use lines from the product. For this
cinematic trailer style though it works better than reusing audio because it gives them more freedom to do what they want and it very much adds to the scene.

• Opens with the lucasfilm ltd logo. Since the logo is associated with a big and very professional company, when it appears on the screen the audience knows they are in for something good.
This association is very good to get people interested in the product before they have seen it, its like an automatic stamp of quality.
• The trailer Mysterious is very mysterious so it doesn’t give too much away to the audience before the audience views it. This is an advantage because it doesn’t spoil anything and leave the
viewer to wonder and try to piece everything together in their heads until they see it.
• Uses scenes from the upcoming season. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage depending on the way they use it. If they use it correctly it can be better than a cinematic trailer
because because it makes people wonder about it if they don’t give too much away. As I said, the audience thinking about it a lot is a good thing; But, if they give too much away by accident, it
can make the story predictable and ruin the enjoyment for the viewer, while also saving money. Thankfully here in this trailer it doesn’t give too much away and it really works in its favor.
• Uses combined music from the movies and the clone wars. Using existing music can save money while also using iconic music to excite the fans who are watching it.
• The clone wars is a anthology series, meaning that each 1-5 set of episodes are a self contained 20min to one and a half hour story. As said by the director of the show dave feloni ”each arc of
the clone wars is like a self contained animated movie about stories in the galaxy during the clone wars era”. The next set of episodes will be another story including either the same or other
characters and not many of the story arcs are In chronological order. One arc can be the umbaran arc about the clones who are under a general who is carless with their lives and turns out to
be evil. Its also about following orders even when the clones know they are wrong, then the next arc can then be the Slaves of the republic arc which is about how the jedi have been so
focused on the war they have lef the underworld to flourish the slave trade have risen again, it also touches on how the jedi and clones could also be counted as slaves and is seen as a
development of the 4 main characters of the show, Ahsoka, Anakin, Obiwan and Captain Rex. The trailer takes parts from story arcs to tease the audience and the audience doesn’t know
which parts of the trailer are from each arc over the season.
• The trailer is action packed. This attracts the audience very well because it makes them more interested in whats going on and the context behind the battles seen and going on.
• The trailer uses voice clips from the season to advertise the show. I don’t know if this is an advantage or disadvantage because I don’t know what else you could do other than use recordings
from the show, you could get the voice actors to come in and record again but it would cost money and well what would they say? It’s a kinda advantage because as I said it teases the
audience but I suppose it depends on how they use the voice clips and where. The voice clips could also be a disadvantage because it could give too much of the plot away, especially since
these clips arent made in mind for the trailer, its made in mind for the impact of the show.
• The trailer has beautiful and professional looking lighting, of course this is from the show but you can see there is a lot of talent behind creating the show. The lighting is very important when
working in 3D because it has to look polished and realistic so the audience can believe the scene is real. It also goes to show how much love, effort and dedication went to making sure each
scene was the best it could be to the budget they had.
• The animation of the characters is extremely well done. You can tell the amount of time that went into making sure they moved perfectly, this talent is on par with industry giants like Monty
Oum or even better than something disney would make. Having good animation works really well because it moves so smoothly the audience cant help but look in awe at how good the action
is in the show.
• The Beautiful explosions looks amazing, and this level of detail and work will defiantly attract the audiences attention. This will help people get more interested to watch the product.
• Ends quietly after the action leaving the audience wanting more. This is a very effective though over used technique to try to make the audience desperate to come back to watch the whole
thing, it acts more to tease than anything else .
• Very well done camera work. As I found out while working on my own animations, shoddy camera work can ruin the quality, even when everything else is great. This just helps show that the
camera work is as important as the special effects. Good camera work can also make things different to how they actually seem and can make something look huge and spectacular or small
and pathetic. The camera works to immerse the people watching as much as possible.
• Looks action packed. This action helps show they audience that they will enjoy this and makes them more likely to be attracted the to product. attracting the audience is very important because
that is where the money will be coming from. The more money made from a project the more successful it is and the longer it can continue with boosting quality.
• This trailer is very professional. You can tell how much time and effort the animators have put into this and they must have been payed a lot. Everything from the soundtrack to the near perfect
animation, to the amazing voice acting helps sell this as a quality lucafilm production. Its easy to tell that nearly 1.5 million was spent of each 20min episode. Looking and sounding great does
a good job of selling your product but the problem is that it might not be sustainable at the price tag of this level of quality.
• The Unique art style cartoon like, dirty a bit roughed up look, looks very well in each scene its in. it also sells it very much as a anthology story about a full scale war between the factions of the
Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Indepenant Systems. This is very much different from the rest of star wars where its more about a rebellion and an uprising than a war. The rebellion
isnt two sides clashing throwing the best they got at each other. They hit and run crucial targets. This is all helped by the different artstyles of the shows compared to each other. The artstyle
also very much interests viewers, and it helps everything fits in well with each other and immerses the viewer and helps boost their enjoyment.
• All the models for the show and all the assets are made specially for this show. This is an advantage because it allows them to create the objects and characters in their artstyle and in anyway
they want. But this can be expensive, especially for high quality models.
• The costumes of the characters look really good and well detailed. As I have said before in animation it allows them to do a lot more with the costumes than they can irl. This is an advantage
because it allows you to be as crazy with them as you want.
• The Props and scenes in the clone wars look really good within the artstyle. Instead of having constraints on how big the scene can be or how physics work they can make a lot of scenes and
objects work better than what would require special effects or Greenscreen. Everything feels like it works and fits in and there is a lot of detail put in, especially in the Specular and bump maps
that you never even really notice when watching but vastly impove the quality of the models and how light interacts with it.
• To my knowledge the show is almost completely made in a professional software called MAYA. Maya allows for some very spectacular animations and effects. Its one of the best animation
and 3D production software that you can get on the market. Though it can be difficult to learn and requires some very good hardware to do the best stuff
• You can tell the show High budget by the quality that has been put into it. I know personally that it is really hard to create quality animations and models and requires a lot of time and effort.
The people behind clone wars have a large team and lots of animators and render farms working hard to make sure its quality and it really shows.
• The Fonts used in the clone wars logo is the same iconic font that has been on every star wars title since its first movie. Having something so iconic to the franchise is a really good way to stay
true to it. Bold fonts are associated with sci fi in large part because of star wars.
• It makes the audience want to watch the serise because it tries to impress and intrigue the audience by impressing them with the animation and make them interested with the story
Existing Product
• Rendered models specially posed for this poster but the renders are used for other
things like magazines. This is an advantage because it gives them more options for what
they want to do with the poster.
• Rendered with maya with alpha channel. This is an advantage because it doesn’t require
to be cut out from the background. Cutting out from the background can have mistakes
and makes the poster look really unprofessional and that’s bad when your trying to sell a
professional product
• Teases the series by showing the characters who are involved. This is an advantage
because it makes it seems more interesting and action packed
• Series title/logo in the center bottom of the poster. This is an advantage because people
usually look at something from top to bottom; this means they see the action and the
characters which interests them, then they see the logo so they know what it is
• The Big bold font of the logo makes it stand out and the font is very iconic to star wars.
• The angle of the camera is straight on towards them, it doesn’t seems to be rendered all
at the same time, more like they rendered each image individually then put it together in
photoshop. This is an advantage because they are able to control each character
individually, it also makes it look more like the iconic star wars poster style because the
way they made them was that they took photos and cut them out and posted them onto
the image. This stays true to star wars iconic roots while being unique and new
• The lighting is very good but because they are rendered separately the light doesn’t
effect the other characters. The huge advantage of amazing and smooth lighting is it
makes it look very professional, more professional looking products are more likely to
gain good attention.
• Looks impressive and grand so it makes it more appealing to the person who will be
looking at it when they come across it. This is an advantage because if the poster can
make someone look impressed and interested in it, that’s a new viewer for the show
• A very Interesting and unique art style. This dirty, kinda painted with a brush and rough
style fits very well with the fact that this is a war, compared to the show which came after
it ‘star wars rebels’ which art style is very smooth and clean. This ‘War’ look is very good
and interesting and gives the show more feeling and character. Plus It just looks
amazing.
• It makes the audience want to watch it more because of how impressive and action
packed it looks. This is an advantage because the more people watching the more the
money the show gets
• The contrast between the colours works very well because they all stand out while not
standing out too much and being so distracting it makes the viewer not interested
Existing Product
• The simple design is common in most shirts but it works really well here. Not only
is it good but its also cheep to print this way.
• Inspired from the SG1 patches from the series. The inspiration works well here
and fans of the show will be really interested in this product.
• Looks like they uses a fractal cloud to add texture to the image. This makes it
look a lot better than a plain colour, and it adds texture and detail to the image
improving the quality.
• Slim font but iconic to the series. Since the first stargate movie the fonts have
tended to be very slim despite being a Sci fi show. The slim font may come from
the fact its based a lot of Egyptian legend and gods. It was intended to be a sci fi
with no actual space or anything and its set in modern day. At least modern day
in the time it was made
• Looks like it was created in photoshop. Photoshop isnt a bad software and it can
be used to make a lot of really cool things but with photoshop being so widely
accessible its become a lot easier to identify something made in the software.
• The image is all one part but the black parts are transparent and are not printed
onto the shirt but the image is printed around it so it makes the text the game
colour as the shirt itself and seems more professional as the printer doesn’t have
to print a black on top of the already black background
• Image is on the chest. Having the image centered on the chest is a good idea
because that’s where a majority of the focus will be on. It makes it look a lot tidier
too.
• The contrast between the dark green and the black make it stand out very well.
Standing out is important when you have a lot of lines of clothes in a store that
look very much the same
• It appeals to the audience because it appeals the the fans love of the stargate
franchise. The fans are most likely going to be the people buying this product
Existing Product
The angle is front and center. This is the standard for most posters. Keeping everything facing the front. This
angle looks well because it looks like its facing towards the viewer. This “connection” helps give the viewer a
good impression as it looks like its reaching out to them to try and get them to see this film
There are few effects in this poster but there is a snow effect in the background. This snow is most likely a stock
image rather than a particle effect, as particle effects weren’t as good in the 90’s.
There are not many lighting effects going on in the poster. This is because it’s a collection of images put together
and not any 3D or any special effects going on in it.
There is the title at the bottom, then the kid (main element), then a digitally created blue window, then the wet
bandits(film characters), and then a background (interior scene from film). This teases the audience as to who
the villains are.
There are no props in the poster but the costumes look bland and not different or special in any way. The kids
wearing a jumper, they are wearing robber outfits. Its hard to tell the location because you cant see much of
what’s around them but it looks like the kid is inside a home and the bandits are outside of the house trying to
get in
The fonts used are kinda thin but the edges kinda stick out on the end of the letters.
The main colours used here are red, blue black and a little yellow on the title. These colours are interesting
colours to use. Red is a very festive colour for its Christmas theme. Im not sure how the yellow and blue fit in but
it might just be because they are bright colours and they stand out from the red and the black night outside.
This is meant to appeal to the audience by trying to peak their interest in the movie. Once the audience buy a
ticket or the DVD of the movie the poster has achieved its purpose.
Research Analysis•
What common features do the researched products have
•
The 3D products had very good and very professional and realistic looking lighting. Lighting is surprisingly very important to how something looks, and the way it acts with the objects. A good looking
3D production is likely to attract a large audience
•
The fonts used tends to be big and bold to attract the attention of someone in the target audience. However some of the products had thinner writing and that may have to do with the style of the
show. Fonts tend to be unique to certain shows or movies to help them stand out.
•
All of the products are very professional, this is very good because it shows how much effort that has been put into it and the effort and money shows.
•
The shirt designs normally are very simple, the one i looked at had two colours but then had a graduate fractal cloud ontop to add some depth to the simple image placed at the front of the shirt
•
They make sure it doesn’t spoil anything from the main product. This is something the client will oftern request so it doesnt decrease any enjoyment of the product while making sure it gets
advertised
•
The trailers often have music going along with it as it plays, the scenes often change with the beats of the music.this keeps the audience more interested because it connects them better to the trailer
•
The posters tend to use colours with a good contrast to help it stand out from each other. But contrast is something you have to be careful with because having it too high can ruin the image.
•
They all try and intrigue the audience to watch or play the main product that it is advertising. This is the main Purpose of the product and they all do it very well
•
What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
•
I will try to make it as professional as possible, but i wont have the money or skill to make it as good as the clone wars TV series or the Mass Effect Cinematic Trailers. However I will be using high
quality professional software such as Maya and After Effects. I will also be using high quality images and models where I can within the production of the trailer and the additional surrounding
products.
•
I will try to make the camera movement as realistic as possible. Camera movement is more important than most people know. A small bump in the camera can make it look all too odd and the
animators and VFX artists work very hard to try and make sure there are no bumps. I wont have as much time to make sure its as perfect but I will try to the best of my ability
•
i will try to make the animation as smooth and as realistic as possible. I want it to look the best it can be and the best of my ability. Smooth and realistic animation is important in 3D products because
the viewers/players want it to look as realistic as possible.
•
the trailer will be action packed to intrigue the audience into buying the game. This is one of the best ways to attract an audience because if they knew the answers the game wouldnt be worth
playing.
•
The Purpose of all of my products will be to advertise the main product. In my case the main product will be the cross over game. My trailers, shirts and etc will be designed to help sell the game. This
is the main purpose of most additional products.
•
I think on the trailer and any other 3D renders I create that I not spoil any of the plot and I will try and make sure everything is rendered to the highest quality I can make it. I want AO, Shadows,
Lighting, Surface Scattering, Bump map, Spec Maps and Illumination Maps. The last 3 are types of textures for 3D models. Most models come with the first 2 but most dont have illumination maps. I
will have to make them myself. Illumination Maps is a texture file that creates Glow on the 3D models. This is Really useful for Ships with windows or lights on it.
•
If I do any 3D on the poster I will render it with an alpha channel so it will have a transparent background and will not require me cutting out the image. This is very simple to do within after effects and
maya. It can make it look a lot more better than a cutting out and that will make it look a lot better to the audience which we want to attract with these products
•
I will make sure the shirt and other similar products have simple designs, with assets that can be reused for other products such as a phone case or mug. This is similar to what was done on the Star
wars the clone wars poster where the assets they used were reused on many other products such as game or magazine covers.
•
I will make sure non of the products I produce will spoil any of the plot from the main product. I will heavily make sure the trailer, shirts and other products I create do not spoil anything for the
viewers. Im sure this will help the players satisfaction with the product and they can get more enjoyment out of it.
•
I will make sure I use colour to set the emotion of the scenes. These will be colours like Blue for hope, Red or doom, danger or destruction, colours that we associate with an emotion. This will be easy
to do with lensflares, Colour Correction and Lighting effects to help make it all work together nicely and make the product look and feel a lot better.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
•
Observation: a majority of the people who took the survey are into turn based strategy games. But some of my audience are also
interested in first person shooters and mmo games. No one went for the other box.
•
What this says about my audience: it says my audience is more interested in some areas of types of games than others but this also
poses a risk because the main product I am creating additional products for might not be a turn based strategy game. This also shows
me that they like genres of game which are already out there.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make it appeal to the audience more by trying to intergrade a lot of aspects of the
game into the promotional products im working on. I will also make it appeal to them more by maybe making suggestions to the
developers of the game
Audience research
•
Observation: all of the people who took the survey are male. There was only 5 people who answered the survey. I know who is my
primary audience is but unfortunately I dont know my secondary audience is.
•
What this says about my audience: it shows me that my audience isn’t wide as its only been 5 people who have answered. My primary
audience is 100% male. It also says I need to gather more information from wider sources.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I might have to make the promotional material I am creating appeal more to men by
having more action and explosions and other Stereotypical things Geek men like
Audience research
•
Observation: most of my audience is under 18 so that is my primary audience.
•
What this says about my audience: this shows me that I have a wide primary audience between ages 16-24 my secondary audience is
and 45-54
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will have to make it appeal to these ages by including things they enjoy in similar
trailers for games that they like, but especially towards the primary audience where I need to make sure they are interested by my
products to go buy the products they advertsie.
Audience research
•
Observation: most of the audience don’t think highly of cross overs. But a small majority does. This is a disadvantage because the
product my promotional products are advertising is a cross over.
•
What this says about my audience: this says that the promotional product might not be for most of the people answered this survey. It
also shows that I might have to work harder to convince them to buy the game just from watching the trailer.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make sure it appeals to the people who aren't currently interested in cross overs
by using high quality work and animation. Im also going to make it different from existing products because that might be where they
get a bad idea about cross overs from.
Audience research
•
Observation: 60% of the people who answered the survey would buy promotional products.
•
What this says about my audience: it says they would be interested in shirts, posters, mugs, etc if they liked it.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: this means I wont have to work as hard to convince them to buy the products but it doe mean I have
to make sure they can be compared to whats already on the market. I will make it appeal to them more by making sure its better than what is
already being sold
Audience research
•
Observation: 20% of the people who took the survey are interested in buying posters. 40% would buy a hoodie and andother 40% choose Other.
•
What this says about my audience: it says that my audience isnt interested in many of the products I plan to offer but the survey did only cover 5
people making it very flawed
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I might have to change the products I plan on creating to fit this data from the survey. This will
hopefully make the audience more intrested
Audience research
•
Observation: a majority of the people who answered the survey do like star wars
•
What this says about my audience: it says my audience are a majority star wars fans and
maybe interested in the products I offer if I choose to include star wars.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: star wars will be included within the cross
over trailer.
Audience research
•
Observation: most of the people who answered the survey like mass effect. But 40% don’t like mass effect
•
What this says about my audience: it says the people who answered the survey might be more interested in the cross over
if its between star wars and mass effect so I will make the trailer about that.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: the cross over products will be about star wars and mass effect and that wil
hopefully attract the audience to buy the Products I am producing
Audience research
•
Observation: a majority of the people who answered the survey. Only 40% said yes.
•
What this says about my audience: it says my audience wouldn’t be interested in having stargate within the trailer and this might push people away
from buying the game I am advertising
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will not include stargate within my cross over promotional products.
Audience research
•
Observation: This shows me my primary audience is within the middle class and my secondary audience is lower and higher class.
•
What this says about my audience: it says there is a Varity of financial and Social status meaning it will be received by a wide audience who can afford
it.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: it will appeal to my audience because it will show the game is available for everyone.
Interviews
Interview 1

Interview 1
•
Observation: they would most likely buy a promotional product such as a hoodie or shirt. They like the idea of making a cinematic
trailer for the game. They like colours that stick out from each other like black and white. They would prefer to see existing characters.
They like detailed product designs for shirts and etc. They think I should draw inspiration from Borderlands when creating the
promotional products for the trailer. They think a Memorable line would be a really good selling point for the game .They think I
should include Easter eggs within the trailers.
•
What this says about my audience: It says the person being interviewed seems to agree with most of my ideas that I put forward in the
interview. This is good because it shows that what I would like to do might be what the customer wants to have. Unfortunately there
are a few points like easter eggs and taking inspiration from borderlands that might be more difficult but I will see what I can do.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make sure I create Hoodies and shirts as promotional products. I will Continue
with my idea to make a cinematic trailer. Within the trailer there will be existing characters within the universe’s. The product designs
will be detailed and there will be a memorable line that will be a selling point for the game and will be included in most material for
that promotes the game I am promoting.

Interview 2
•
Observation: this person would be interested in buying Clothing that was related to something they liked. This Person likes the idea of using a
cinematic trailer to promote the product. This person likes designs that cover all of the space available on the clothing. This person believes a mix of
original characters and existing characters would be a good choice to do for the promotional products. This person thinks I should draw inspiration
from Pikachu. This person doesn’t think a recurring line in the promotional material would be a good idea and it would be distracting
•
What this says about my audience: This shows that this persons ideas differ from mine but I can still do what I can do to try and improve it around
the observations I made form the interview where I can.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: The Promotional Material will appeal to this person because it will include clothing products. I will
continue to develop my idea to create a cinematic trailer and the designs will be varied and try to use up all the space available on the
product/clothing.
Interview 3Q1. what types of promotional products would you buy for something you like and why?
A statue/figure since they have beautiful detail on and represent the character perfectly
with the types of detail.
Q2. do you think an animated cinematic trailer would be the best way to go to promote a cross
over game between mass effect and star wars? Please explain your answer
Yes, since it allows the audience to get an idea of the different scenes that could take
place and further create the atmosphere to boost the influence of the cross over unlike a
magazine or a poster.
Q3. how do you like your designs on your promotional products? (on shirts, mugs, posters, Etc)
For logos I would say just on the chest area but for characters I’d say take up the entire
front area.
Q4. Do you think New Original characters should be at the center of the promotion or a
existing character? Or a mixture of the two (Please explain your answer)
Existing characters so people that already know about the specific series can be included
and already take a liking to the product.
Q5. are there any inspirations you think I should draw from?
Star wars, mass effect and pacific rim
Q6. Do you think the promotional products should be centered about a tagline similar to the
alien franchise? (”in space no one can hear you scream”) please explain your answer
Yes, since things people can relate to boosts the popularity of it and can allow for you to
create a unique line that people would like.
Q7. Do you have any other suggestions about the promotional products?
No
Interview 3
•
Observation: This person believes it would be a good idea to create toys and action figures as promotional products. This person
believes it is a good idea to create a cinematic trailer to advertise the game. They believe the logo designs should be placed on the
chest on wearable products and that other designs should try and take up as much area as possible. This person believes I should only
use existing characters. They believe that I should take inspiration from Star wars, mass effect and pacific rim. They believe it is a good
idea to center the promotional products around a tagline that is easy to remember.
•
What this says about my audience: it says that they relatively agree with me but things like creating toys and action figures and taking
inspiration from pacific rim might be more difficult. It also says that if the audience agrees with me on many points and that im
heading in the right direction.
•
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make sure that I wlll continue with my idea of creating the cinematic trailer. I will
make sure I offer a multiple designs for the promotional material and I will make sure I use existing characters. I will also take
inspiration from star wars and mass effect material. I will also create a tagline for the promotional material

Research Evaluation
Research EvaluationGive an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method
–Product Research
–Strengths
–I was able to look at existing Products and see the industry standard. This helped me know what was expected from my products and what they have to
contend with.
–The Existing Products helped inspire me on things I could do for my project. This helped me create a list of things that I could include or take inspirations
from in the project.
–Weaknesses
–I Don’t have the time, people or ability to make it up to the industry standard. However I will make it look the best it possibly can with the Professional
software I have at hand .
–Questionnaires
–Strengths
–It’s a good and free way to take an idea of where your audience is and what they might want from your product.
– Its Free. This is very good because you don’t have to waste money to get feedback or identify your target audience
–Results are easy to measure and are already measured into charts for you. This means less fiddling around and its easy to see what percent of your
audience said what.
–Weaknesses
–Some people don’t take it seriously. This can lead to a lot of stupid answers where people just muck about.
–There is nothing to stop people from answering twice on another computer. This could mean one person could have multiple answers for one question
that makes it uneven on what people might really want
–On survey monkey you only get 10 Questions for free. This limits what you can do and how many questions you can ask
–Not many people answered my survey. This is a problem because its not a wide enough spread or reliable information that will help you plan your
product.
–Its Anonymous and there is no way you can know that what they are saying is true. There is no way to confirm what people are saying so its impossible
to make sure that what they say is reliable
–Interviews
–Strengths
–A lot more detailed answers so you can understand what they mean a lot better than a tick box does.
–Not anonymous so people are more likely to take it seriously. This means what they say is a lot more reliable and you can trust what they say a lot better
–You can have as many questions as you would like but they are less likely to answer all of them if it takes too much of their time
–People cant answer twice. This makes what is said more reliable than the survey.
–Weaknesses
–Harder to look at every interview and put it into numbers. This means it’s a lot harder to turn that information into graphs and bar charts so that it will
be easier to view them all.
–You need to go out and find people in the real world willing to stop and answer your questions. This means you have to hire someone to do this and it
could take quite a while to get answers because people in the street probably have a reason why they are there and that is most likely because they have
somewhere to be. They wont want to stop if they are busy and it costs money to hire someone to stand out side with it.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
– I didn’t get a large response to my survey but a large amount of the response was mostly serious and were very varied. Varied responses can show that your picking a
wide audience but a audience that is too wide can be difficult to create content for that will appeal to everyone within that target audience. A large amount of
responses are good because it means that you know its more reliable. Its important that everyone takes the survey seriously so that you can trust the results that you
get from it. It was all around 16-20 but it was very limited because it was limited to the college. All 5 were men. Some agreed with most of my ideas and others mostly
disagreed. Most were not detailed responses but that was mostly down to the Yes and No Limits to the questions however some did go in-depth when they could but it
wasnt until the interviews that the Reponses became really detailed. I simplified the questions which were multiple choice to collect qauntative data which I could
measure in graphs. In depth questions would have been harder to turn into quantative data to compare. Most of the questions I asked were useful but others were in
place of what have could have been a better question to ask.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– Advantages of Survey Monkey
– Survey Monkey is online so anyone can answer it. This means your audience can be much wider than just the people around you.
– Because it gives you a link to share you can send the link anywhere electronically and they can answer it with a electronic device they have that is connected
to the internet
– Disadvantages of survey monkey
– Because its online you Cant Control who answers it or even if it will be the primary audience who you want to target your products towards.
– Cant be answered without internet. This means that people who dont have internet cannot answer the survey but pretty much everyone has internet these
days.
– Cant be answered without electronic devices. Again this is something a lot of people have but if they happen to not have any
– Advantage of distributing with email
– with emails people are more likely to take answer it than if its just left up on blackboard because its sent directly to them.
– You know whos answering it if you distribute through email and this might make people more serious about answering and they wont say silly things.
– Disadvantage of distributing with email
– With email its only sent to a limited number of people who you know the emails for. This means there wont be many people who can answer your survey
this way unless you know a lot of email addresses.
– Advantage of distributing with blackboard
– With Blackboard its seen by everyone in the group and it can reach more people. Reaching more people is a good way to have a more accurate survey.
– Disadvantage of distributing with blackboard
– With blackboard people are less likely to answer or give a serious or reliable answer because its anonymous and they most likely had to grind through all the
other surveys they did
– Other Possible ways of distributing.
– Social Media could have also been a good way to share the Link of survey monkey. Then it would be a public link people can select and not sent to a
individual and not a private group

Researching Mass Effect Andromeda Trailer

  • 2. Existing Product https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHCA8tK117c • The lighting is very well done and professional. It is important to have good lighting when animating so it looks more realistic. Even when its got a more cartoonish style. Making it look more realistic and detailed makes it look more professional. Looking professional is important when attracting players, viewers or customers. The more customers it can attract the more money it will make. • Opens with age rating then goes to bioware logo. The age rating is important because it’s a legal requirement so parents know not to get their underage child a game they shouldn’t be playing. The bioware and EA logo is important so that people know whos making it and the quality they can expect. This is expensive but it does vastly improve the quality as its all in the same style choice and they can make it look what ever way you want and are not confined to the already constructed models. Looking cinematic gives the viewer a really good first impression to the game or movie. A good first impression can make people very interested in the product and likely to buy. • Possibly Made by a 3rd party. This is an advantage because it allows the studio to work on the game or movie without having to worry about. However, it would probably cost them more money than producing the cinematic in house. Using a third party might not create it in the way you would like. Enjoying a product will increase the likely hood of a customer buying another or a similar product again. • Logo at the end. This makes sure people know what the trailer is for. People knowing the product and associating the good trailer with that will increase the likely hood of them buying the product. • Gives you a peak at what the game will be like without spoiling the game. As I said before this is an advantage because spoiling the story or product can ruin someone's enjoyment of it • Camera moves very well and very realistically. This makes it seem very well done and people like it when things look realistic and detailed. This can make people more interested • The trailer has a very Mysterious feeling to it. Because you don’t know who they are fighting or who these people are. Especially after the last game ended after you stopped the reapers. • Looks like it was all made in Maya or a similar 3D software. This software makes it look a lot better than something made in blender as it has a lot more tools and effects which can vastly improve the trailer to industry standard • The voice acting is done extremely well in this. Good voice acting can be as important as good animation. A poor performance can unimmerse people and remove the enjoyment. Enjoying the game is important because enjoying your product will most likely make the customer want more • Lens flares and other good lighting effects make the trailer and animation look so much better. The problem is it can be tempting to overuse lensflares. Overusing lesflares can detract from the experience. A good example of this is 2009 star trek where lensflares were way overused in an attempt to make it look futuristic, this was parodied and laughed at so much JJ then regretted overusing them and it became a joke. It would be best not to repeat this mistake on any products produced. If the customer is not immersed in the story it can take away from their enjoyment and they might not return to buy the next or another product from the same producers or developers. • The Costumes look really good and the animation really shows them off. Being digital it gives the developers a whole lot more freedom with what the characters can wear. It can be absolutely crazy or as unique as they would like. But being digital can also cost a lot and take a lot of time. Something as simple as walking can cost a lot more than getting someone and dressing them up in costume for a short scene. • The Weapons and props used in the trailer look unique but there are some things that can easily be recognized from the last game that have been recreated here. The M8 Assault rifle is just one of them. The new weapons very much look similar to the already established weapons but they go very well in the new artstyle of the mass effect brand that they went for. These weapons look very futuristic but still stays similar to something that could work in futuristic warfare that is inspired from real war in modern day. • The Artstyle looks beautiful. It tries to go for a semi realistic look with a cartoon, simplified side. I think this helps it feel very action packed but very fun and humorous at times. This is something that can only really be established in digital form because you cant really have an artstyle when recording something live action. Digital artstyles became a essential part of digital media because at the moment we cant 100% replicate how the real world looks like and a lot of the time to make things super realistic costs a lot of money. A lot of the time the artstyle can look and feel a lot better than a realistic look too. Looking good is important for many products because it helps persuade the customer to buy the product because of its charm. • The Colours look really good for this trailer and they are really well picked, each scene has its overall colour but it knows when it have a different colour from time to time. I find colours are more important than we know as they can overn change a scene based on what we associate with those colours. A sad scene can be overall blue where as an evil scene can be overall red. It can very much help sell the emotion of the scene and this can be really important for the enjoyment for the customer. As I keep saying the enjoyment is important because it will help decide whether they will buy the next product or if they will simply move on to something else • The Locations look unique. From the illusive mans base to tutanka, to horizon. Each scene looks different though horizon and tutanka have a similar colour palet in some areas. But the difference is in the changes from tutanka being surrounded by ancient ruins of a city, to the prefab abandoned buildings of the horizon coleny its very easy to tell the places apart. Telling the places apart helps the viewer or player identify and remember the location better so it doesn’t just blend in with all the other locations. Remembering parts of the game will help the player be more likely to come back to it for those good memories • The Fonts they went for in this is different. Especially in the logo. The logo uses a customized bold font at the top with a hole cut into it, bolder fonts are associated with sci-fi thanks to successful franchises like star wars, battlestar galatica and many more. But the lower half uses a more thinner font, thinner fonts are more used in medieval fantasy or magic thanks to successful franchises like harry potter, lord of the rings and the whitcher. The lower font is still different though, it still looks a little bold and it doesn’t have any charp edges that spike outwards in New roman times font kinda way. The logo/franchie name is unique and it defiantly helps it stand out from others • It very much tries to make people want to play the game by intriguing them into it by baiting them with things to try and interest them. This trailer is very effective at that • This trailer is very much for sci-fi gamers who havent played the previous game before. Targeting these people to try and tempt them to join the already existing fanbase. Expanding the fanbase is a very good idea because it increases the amount of people who will buy your products. • Uses lines recorded specially for the trailer. as I talked about before this helps the trailer not give away too much. Specially recorded lines can be very good but it will cost more than it would to re use lines from the product. For this cinematic trailer style though it works better than reusing audio because it gives them more freedom to do what they want and it very much adds to the scene.
  • 3. Existing Product https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY1uKLTWnC4 • Opens with the lucasfilm ltd logo. This is an advantage because it doesn’t spoil anything and leave the viewer to wonder and try to piece everything together in their heads until they see it. • Uses scenes from the upcoming season. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage depending on the way they use it. If they use it correctly it can be better than a cinematic trailer because because it makes people wonder about it if they don’t give too much away. As I said, the audience thinking about it a lot is a good thing; But, if they give too much away by accident, it can make the story predictable and ruin the enjoyment for the viewer, while also saving money. As said by the director of the show dave feloni ”each arc of the clone wars is like a self contained animated movie about stories in the galaxy during the clone wars era”. The next set of episodes will be another story including either the same or other characters and not many of the story arcs are In chronological order. One arc can be the umbaran arc about the clones who are under a general who is carless with their lives and turns out to be evil. Its also about following orders even when the clones know they are wrong, then the next arc can then be the Slaves of the republic arc which is about how the jedi have been so focused on the war they have lef the underworld to flourish the slave trade have risen again, it also touches on how the jedi and clones could also be counted as slaves and is seen as a development of the 4 main characters of the show, Ahsoka, Anakin, Obiwan and Captain Rex. The trailer takes parts from story arcs to tease the audience and the audience doesn’t know which parts of the trailer are from each arc over the season. • The trailer is action packed. This attracts the audience very well because it makes them more interested in whats going on and the context behind the battles seen and going on. • The trailer uses voice clips from the season to advertise the show. I don’t know if this is an advantage or disadvantage because I don’t know what else you could do other than use recordings from the show, you could get the voice actors to come in and record again but it would cost money and well what would they say? It’s a kinda advantage because as I said it teases the audience but I suppose it depends on how they use the voice clips and where. The voice clips could also be a disadvantage because it could give too much of the plot away, especially since these clips arent made in mind for the trailer, its made in mind for the impact of the show. • The trailer has beautiful and professional looking lighting, of course this is from the show but you can see there is a lot of talent behind creating the show. The lighting is very important when working in 3D because it has to look polished and realistic so the audience can believe the scene is real. It also goes to show how much love, effort and dedication went to making sure each scene was the best it could be to the budget they had. • The animation of the characters is extremely well done. You can tell the amount of time that went into making sure they moved perfectly, this talent is on par with industry giants like Monty Oum or even better than something disney would make. Having good animation works really well because it moves so smoothly the audience cant help but look in awe at how good the action is in the show. • The Beautiful explosions looks amazing, and this level of detail and work will defiantly attract the audiences attention. This will help people get more interested to watch the product. • Ends quietly after the action leaving the audience wanting more. This is a very effective though over used technique to try to make the audience desperate to come back to watch the whole thing, it acts more to tease than anything else . • Very well done camera work. As I found out while working on my own animations, shoddy camera work can ruin the quality, even when everything else is great. This just helps show that the camera work is as important as the special effects. Good camera work can also make things different to how they actually seem and can make something look huge and spectacular or small and pathetic. The camera works to immerse the people watching as much as possible. • Looks action packed. This action helps show they audience that they will enjoy this and makes them more likely to be attracted the to product. attracting the audience is very important because that is where the money will be coming from. The more money made from a project the more successful it is and the longer it can continue with boosting quality. • This trailer is very professional. You can tell how much time and effort the animators have put into this and they must have been payed a lot. Everything from the soundtrack to the near perfect animation, to the amazing voice acting helps sell this as a quality lucafilm production. Its easy to tell that nearly 1.5 million was spent of each 20min episode. Looking and sounding great does a good job of selling your product but the problem is that it might not be sustainable at the price tag of this level of quality. • The Unique art style cartoon like, dirty a bit roughed up look, looks very well in each scene its in. it also sells it very much as a anthology story about a full scale war between the factions of the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Indepenant Systems. This is very much different from the rest of star wars where its more about a rebellion and an uprising than a war. The rebellion isnt two sides clashing throwing the best they got at each other. They hit and run crucial targets. This is all helped by the different artstyles of the shows compared to each other. The artstyle also very much interests viewers, and it helps everything fits in well with each other and immerses the viewer and helps boost their enjoyment. • All the models for the show and all the assets are made specially for this show. This is an advantage because it allows them to create the objects and characters in their artstyle and in anyway they want. But this can be expensive, especially for high quality models. • The costumes of the characters look really good and well detailed. As I have said before in animation it allows them to do a lot more with the costumes than they can irl. This is an advantage because it allows you to be as crazy with them as you want. • The Props and scenes in the clone wars look really good within the artstyle. Instead of having constraints on how big the scene can be or how physics work they can make a lot of scenes and objects work better than what would require special effects or Greenscreen. Everything feels like it works and fits in and there is a lot of detail put in, especially in the Specular and bump maps that you never even really notice when watching but vastly impove the quality of the models and how light interacts with it. • To my knowledge the show is almost completely made in a professional software called MAYA. Maya allows for some very spectacular animations and effects. Its one of the best animation and 3D production software that you can get on the market. Though it can be difficult to learn and requires some very good hardware to do the best stuff • You can tell the show High budget by the quality that has been put into it. Having something so iconic to the franchise is a really good way to stay true to it. Bold fonts are associated with sci fi in large part because of star wars. • It makes the audience want to watch the serise because it tries to impress and intrigue the audience by impressing them with the animation and make them interested with the story
  • 4. Existing Product • Rendered models specially posed for this poster but the renders are used for other things like magazines. This is an advantage because it gives them more options for what they want to do with the poster. • Rendered with maya with alpha channel. This is an advantage because it doesn’t require to be cut out from the background. Cutting out from the background can have mistakes and makes the poster look really unprofessional and that’s bad when your trying to sell a professional product • Teases the series by showing the characters who are involved. This is an advantage because it makes it seems more interesting and action packed • Series title/logo in the center bottom of the poster. This is an advantage because people usually look at something from top to bottom; this means they see the action and the characters which interests them, then they see the logo so they know what it is • The Big bold font of the logo makes it stand out and the font is very iconic to star wars. • The angle of the camera is straight on towards them, it doesn’t seems to be rendered all at the same time, more like they rendered each image individually then put it together in photoshop. This is an advantage because they are able to control each character individually, it also makes it look more like the iconic star wars poster style because the way they made them was that they took photos and cut them out and posted them onto the image. This stays true to star wars iconic roots while being unique and new • The lighting is very good but because they are rendered separately the light doesn’t effect the other characters. The huge advantage of amazing and smooth lighting is it makes it look very professional, more professional looking products are more likely to gain good attention. • Looks impressive and grand so it makes it more appealing to the person who will be looking at it when they come across it. This is an advantage because if the poster can make someone look impressed and interested in it, that’s a new viewer for the show • A very Interesting and unique art style. This dirty, kinda painted with a brush and rough style fits very well with the fact that this is a war, compared to the show which came after it ‘star wars rebels’ which art style is very smooth and clean. This ‘War’ look is very good and interesting and gives the show more feeling and character. Plus It just looks amazing. • It makes the audience want to watch it more because of how impressive and action packed it looks. This is an advantage because the more people watching the more the money the show gets • The contrast between the colours works very well because they all stand out while not standing out too much and being so distracting it makes the viewer not interested
  • 5. Existing Product • The simple design is common in most shirts but it works really well here. Not only is it good but its also cheep to print this way. • Inspired from the SG1 patches from the series. The inspiration works well here and fans of the show will be really interested in this product. • Looks like they uses a fractal cloud to add texture to the image. This makes it look a lot better than a plain colour, and it adds texture and detail to the image improving the quality. • Slim font but iconic to the series. Since the first stargate movie the fonts have tended to be very slim despite being a Sci fi show. The slim font may come from the fact its based a lot of Egyptian legend and gods. It was intended to be a sci fi with no actual space or anything and its set in modern day. At least modern day in the time it was made • Looks like it was created in photoshop. Photoshop isnt a bad software and it can be used to make a lot of really cool things but with photoshop being so widely accessible its become a lot easier to identify something made in the software. • The image is all one part but the black parts are transparent and are not printed onto the shirt but the image is printed around it so it makes the text the game colour as the shirt itself and seems more professional as the printer doesn’t have to print a black on top of the already black background • Image is on the chest. Having the image centered on the chest is a good idea because that’s where a majority of the focus will be on. It makes it look a lot tidier too. • The contrast between the dark green and the black make it stand out very well. Standing out is important when you have a lot of lines of clothes in a store that look very much the same • It appeals to the audience because it appeals the the fans love of the stargate franchise. The fans are most likely going to be the people buying this product
  • 6. Existing Product The angle is front and center. This is the standard for most posters. Keeping everything facing the front. This angle looks well because it looks like its facing towards the viewer. This “connection” helps give the viewer a good impression as it looks like its reaching out to them to try and get them to see this film There are few effects in this poster but there is a snow effect in the background. This snow is most likely a stock image rather than a particle effect, as particle effects weren’t as good in the 90’s. There are not many lighting effects going on in the poster. This is because it’s a collection of images put together and not any 3D or any special effects going on in it. There is the title at the bottom, then the kid (main element), then a digitally created blue window, then the wet bandits(film characters), and then a background (interior scene from film). This teases the audience as to who the villains are. There are no props in the poster but the costumes look bland and not different or special in any way. The kids wearing a jumper, they are wearing robber outfits. Its hard to tell the location because you cant see much of what’s around them but it looks like the kid is inside a home and the bandits are outside of the house trying to get in The fonts used are kinda thin but the edges kinda stick out on the end of the letters. The main colours used here are red, blue black and a little yellow on the title. These colours are interesting colours to use. Red is a very festive colour for its Christmas theme. Im not sure how the yellow and blue fit in but it might just be because they are bright colours and they stand out from the red and the black night outside. This is meant to appeal to the audience by trying to peak their interest in the movie. Once the audience buy a ticket or the DVD of the movie the poster has achieved its purpose.
  • 7. Research Analysis• What common features do the researched products have • The 3D products had very good and very professional and realistic looking lighting. Lighting is surprisingly very important to how something looks, and the way it acts with the objects. A good looking 3D production is likely to attract a large audience • The fonts used tends to be big and bold to attract the attention of someone in the target audience. However some of the products had thinner writing and that may have to do with the style of the show. Fonts tend to be unique to certain shows or movies to help them stand out. • All of the products are very professional, this is very good because it shows how much effort that has been put into it and the effort and money shows. • The shirt designs normally are very simple, the one i looked at had two colours but then had a graduate fractal cloud ontop to add some depth to the simple image placed at the front of the shirt • They make sure it doesn’t spoil anything from the main product. This is something the client will oftern request so it doesnt decrease any enjoyment of the product while making sure it gets advertised • The trailers often have music going along with it as it plays, the scenes often change with the beats of the music.this keeps the audience more interested because it connects them better to the trailer • The posters tend to use colours with a good contrast to help it stand out from each other. But contrast is something you have to be careful with because having it too high can ruin the image. • They all try and intrigue the audience to watch or play the main product that it is advertising. This is the main Purpose of the product and they all do it very well • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? • I will try to make it as professional as possible, but i wont have the money or skill to make it as good as the clone wars TV series or the Mass Effect Cinematic Trailers. However I will be using high quality professional software such as Maya and After Effects. I will also be using high quality images and models where I can within the production of the trailer and the additional surrounding products. • I will try to make the camera movement as realistic as possible. Camera movement is more important than most people know. A small bump in the camera can make it look all too odd and the animators and VFX artists work very hard to try and make sure there are no bumps. I wont have as much time to make sure its as perfect but I will try to the best of my ability • i will try to make the animation as smooth and as realistic as possible. I want it to look the best it can be and the best of my ability. Smooth and realistic animation is important in 3D products because the viewers/players want it to look as realistic as possible. • the trailer will be action packed to intrigue the audience into buying the game. This is one of the best ways to attract an audience because if they knew the answers the game wouldnt be worth playing. • The Purpose of all of my products will be to advertise the main product. In my case the main product will be the cross over game. My trailers, shirts and etc will be designed to help sell the game. This is the main purpose of most additional products. • I think on the trailer and any other 3D renders I create that I not spoil any of the plot and I will try and make sure everything is rendered to the highest quality I can make it. I want AO, Shadows, Lighting, Surface Scattering, Bump map, Spec Maps and Illumination Maps. The last 3 are types of textures for 3D models. Most models come with the first 2 but most dont have illumination maps. I will have to make them myself. Illumination Maps is a texture file that creates Glow on the 3D models. This is Really useful for Ships with windows or lights on it. • If I do any 3D on the poster I will render it with an alpha channel so it will have a transparent background and will not require me cutting out the image. This is very simple to do within after effects and maya. It can make it look a lot more better than a cutting out and that will make it look a lot better to the audience which we want to attract with these products • I will make sure the shirt and other similar products have simple designs, with assets that can be reused for other products such as a phone case or mug. This is similar to what was done on the Star wars the clone wars poster where the assets they used were reused on many other products such as game or magazine covers. • I will make sure non of the products I produce will spoil any of the plot from the main product. I will heavily make sure the trailer, shirts and other products I create do not spoil anything for the viewers. Im sure this will help the players satisfaction with the product and they can get more enjoyment out of it. • I will make sure I use colour to set the emotion of the scenes. These will be colours like Blue for hope, Red or doom, danger or destruction, colours that we associate with an emotion. This will be easy to do with lensflares, Colour Correction and Lighting effects to help make it all work together nicely and make the product look and feel a lot better.
  • 9. Audience research • Observation: a majority of the people who took the survey are into turn based strategy games. But some of my audience are also interested in first person shooters and mmo games. No one went for the other box. • What this says about my audience: it says my audience is more interested in some areas of types of games than others but this also poses a risk because the main product I am creating additional products for might not be a turn based strategy game. This also shows me that they like genres of game which are already out there. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make it appeal to the audience more by trying to intergrade a lot of aspects of the game into the promotional products im working on. I will also make it appeal to them more by maybe making suggestions to the developers of the game

  • 12. Audience research • Observation: most of the audience don’t think highly of cross overs. But a small majority does. This is a disadvantage because the product my promotional products are advertising is a cross over. • What this says about my audience: this says that the promotional product might not be for most of the people answered this survey. It also shows that I might have to work harder to convince them to buy the game just from watching the trailer. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make sure it appeals to the people who aren't currently interested in cross overs by using high quality work and animation. Im also going to make it different from existing products because that might be where they get a bad idea about cross overs from.
  • 13. Audience research • Observation: 60% of the people who answered the survey would buy promotional products. • What this says about my audience: it says they would be interested in shirts, posters, mugs, etc if they liked it. • How will your product appeal to this audience: this means I wont have to work as hard to convince them to buy the products but it doe mean I have to make sure they can be compared to whats already on the market. I will make it appeal to them more by making sure its better than what is already being sold
  • 14. Audience research • Observation: 20% of the people who took the survey are interested in buying posters. 40% would buy a hoodie and andother 40% choose Other. • What this says about my audience: it says that my audience isnt interested in many of the products I plan to offer but the survey did only cover 5 people making it very flawed • How will your product appeal to this audience: I might have to change the products I plan on creating to fit this data from the survey. This will hopefully make the audience more intrested

But 40% don’t like mass effect • What this says about my audience: it says the people who answered the survey might be more interested in the cross over if its between star wars and mass effect so I will make the trailer about that. • How will your product appeal to this audience: the cross over products will be about star wars and mass effect and that wil hopefully attract the audience to buy the Products I am producing
  • 17. Audience research • Observation: a majority of the people who answered the survey. Only 40% said yes. • What this says about my audience: it says my audience wouldn’t be interested in having stargate within the trailer and this might push people away from buying the game I am advertising • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will not include stargate within my cross over promotional products.
  • 18. Audience research • Observation: This shows me my primary audience is within the middle class and my secondary audience is lower and higher class. • What this says about my audience: it says there is a Varity of financial and Social status meaning it will be received by a wide audience who can afford it. • How will your product appeal to this audience: it will appeal to my audience because it will show the game is available for everyone.

  • 28. Research EvaluationGive an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method –Product Research –Strengths –I was able to look at existing Products and see the industry standard. This helped me know what was expected from my products and what they have to contend with. –The Existing Products helped inspire me on things I could do for my project. This helped me create a list of things that I could include or take inspirations from in the project. –Weaknesses –I Don’t have the time, people or ability to make it up to the industry standard. However I will make it look the best it possibly can with the Professional software I have at hand . –Questionnaires –Strengths –It’s a good and free way to take an idea of where your audience is and what they might want from your product. – Its Free. This is very good because you don’t have to waste money to get feedback or identify your target audience –Results are easy to measure and are already measured into charts for you. This means less fiddling around and its easy to see what percent of your audience said what. –Weaknesses –Some people don’t take it seriously. This can lead to a lot of stupid answers where people just muck about. –There is nothing to stop people from answering twice on another computer. This could mean one person could have multiple answers for one question that makes it uneven on what people might really want –On survey monkey you only get 10 Questions for free. This limits what you can do and how many questions you can ask –Not many people answered my survey. This is a problem because its not a wide enough spread or reliable information that will help you plan your product. –Its Anonymous and there is no way you can know that what they are saying is true. There is no way to confirm what people are saying so its impossible to make sure that what they say is reliable –Interviews –Strengths –A lot more detailed answers so you can understand what they mean a lot better than a tick box does. –Not anonymous so people are more likely to take it seriously. This means what they say is a lot more reliable and you can trust what they say a lot better –You can have as many questions as you would like but they are less likely to answer all of them if it takes too much of their time –People cant answer twice. This makes what is said more reliable than the survey. –Weaknesses –Harder to look at every interview and put it into numbers. This means it’s a lot harder to turn that information into graphs and bar charts so that it will be easier to view them all. –You need to go out and find people in the real world willing to stop and answer your questions. This means you have to hire someone to do this and it could take quite a while to get answers because people in the street probably have a reason why they are there and that is most likely because they have somewhere to be. They wont want to stop if they are busy and it costs money to hire someone to stand out side with it.
  • 29. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? – I didn’t get a large response to my survey but a large amount of the response was mostly serious and were very varied. Varied responses can show that your picking a wide audience but a audience that is too wide can be difficult to create content for that will appeal to everyone within that target audience. A large amount of responses are good because it means that you know its more reliable. Its important that everyone takes the survey seriously so that you can trust the results that you get from it. It was all around 16-20 but it was very limited because it was limited to the college. All 5 were men. Some agreed with most of my ideas and others mostly disagreed. Most were not detailed responses but that was mostly down to the Yes and No Limits to the questions however some did go in-depth when they could but it wasnt until the interviews that the Reponses became really detailed. I simplified the questions which were multiple choice to collect qauntative data which I could measure in graphs. In depth questions would have been harder to turn into quantative data to compare. Most of the questions I asked were useful but others were in place of what have could have been a better question to ask. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – Advantages of Survey Monkey – Survey Monkey is online so anyone can answer it. This means your audience can be much wider than just the people around you. – Because it gives you a link to share you can send the link anywhere electronically and they can answer it with a electronic device they have that is connected to the internet – Disadvantages of survey monkey – Because its online you Cant Control who answers it or even if it will be the primary audience who you want to target your products towards. – Cant be answered without internet. This means that people who dont have internet cannot answer the survey but pretty much everyone has internet these days. – Cant be answered without electronic devices. Again this is something a lot of people have but if they happen to not have any – Advantage of distributing with email – with emails people are more likely to take answer it than if its just left up on blackboard because its sent directly to them. – You know whos answering it if you distribute through email and this might make people more serious about answering and they wont say silly things. – Disadvantage of distributing with email – With email its only sent to a limited number of people who you know the emails for. This means there wont be many people who can answer your survey this way unless you know a lot of email addresses. – Advantage of distributing with blackboard – With Blackboard its seen by everyone in the group and it can reach more people. Reaching more people is a good way to have a more accurate survey. – Disadvantage of distributing with blackboard – With blackboard people are less likely to answer or give a serious or reliable answer because its anonymous and they most likely had to grind through all the other surveys they did – Other Possible ways of distributing. – Social Media could have also been a good way to share the Link of survey monkey. Then it would be a public link people can select and not sent to a individual and not a private group
