Sean recorded an audio script for an experiment in a college stairwell using a DR05 microphone. He imported the audio file into Adobe Audition for editing. He edited out pauses and stutters, applied effects like noise gate, compressor, reverb and EQ to improve sound quality. He exported the file as a .WAV as specified. For his final product, he plans to use Audition for editing, apply the same audio effects to boost quality, record in a better environment with a better mic, and cut out pauses and stutters.
2. Process
Script:
I get up and jump out of the bed then
walking down stairs at 6am. When I get
downstairs I have my breakfast of cornflakes
and a glass of water before messaging my
girlfriend before she goes to bed. Shes
normally finishing up some art work that
shes working hard on. I go back upstairs to
put my contacts in and brush my teeth. I
pack my bag and lunch which consists of a
sandwich, yogurt and apple then walk to the
bus stop to wait for the bus to arrive at 7:10
take me to college for my day of work.
• First I wrote the script for the audio and made many edits before
going out to record my lines. I had to make sure my lines took up
the amount of time required for in my project.
• Went to the college stairwell to record the audio. Unfortunately I
had to keep restarting my recording as people kept walking
through and the stairwell had an echo decreasing the sound
quality
• Recorded with a DR05 given by the college. I was able to use the
microphone to pick up good quality sound which I could use for
my experiment.
• I recorded my scripted lines and I imported them onto the mac
PC I was working on.
3. Process
Once I transferred it to the mac computer I imported the file into CC
Audition. I used audition because it’s a professional and dedicated
sound editing software. I also think that I will use this for my final
product.
I Edited and cut away and pauses or stutters to improve the way it
flowed and to make it sound better. This worked well as it sounds
more professional without the stutters And improved the overall
quality, so ill have to do this in my final product
I used a Noise gate to get rid of unwanted ambiance and noises from
the audio clip. This worked very well in improving the sound quality
because now there is no hissing background sound. This makes it
seem very professional and will have to be something I do in my final
product because it was very helpful
Compressor, reverb and graphic EQ 10 band to shape the sound this
made S’s and T’s which would have been harder for the mic to pick
up louder so the audience can hear it, the Reverb also helped change
it to make it sound like it was in a different room. All these things
helped improve the overall sound quality and made it a lot better to
use and made it less annoying to hear. It most products its important
to sound professional. These audio tools will be something I have to
use in my final product as they greatly boosted the audio quality
Exported with effects applied to the file as a .WAV because that’s the
format project brief specified I will also have to output them in this
format for my final project
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I want to use CC audition because it was very good for what I wanted to do with my final product, its
easy to use and user friendly with lots of tools at your disposal
– I want to use the Audio effects I used in CC audition these effects really boosted the quality of the
recording and helped a lot in what I wanted it to sound like. This also made it seemed very
professional and these effects are defiantly something I want to bring back for my final product
– I want to cut out the pauses and stutters, this is quite important as it shortened down the time, it
makes it more appealing to the audience and makes it more professional which is a good thing for
what I want to make in my final product
– I want to write my script and record my lines Like I did in my experiment but I want to do it in a
better environment with a better mic.
