2. The layered shots signifies that the
characters memories are blurring into one.
Further supports the narrative of
hallucinations.
The packet of medication
suggests further possibilities
of mental health problems.
This fits in with suggestion
that the girl is hallucinating.
The prop of the alarm clock suggests
that the character has a routine.
Whether she goes to school or has to
keep a strict routine because of her
mental illness.
3. The prop of a doctors enquiry form further supports that the character has mental
health issues. Layered with her taking a drug secures to the audience that the girl is
not mentally stable.
Further context- the girl is
questioning what's reality or
whether its just her mental
health. Suggesting that mental
health is almost a supernatural
occurrence. The kidnapper could
be seen to be in her thoughts as
his appearance remains hidden.
4. The costume of this character is very
sinister as the identity of the character
remains hidden. The pose of the
character is direct address as he is
looking directly at the camera. This
creates an uneasy feeling for the
audience as it seems as if he can see the
viewer but we can't see him. The fear of
the unknown; who's behind that mask?
What does he look like? Is he
dangerous?
The low key lighting creates sharp contrast in this shot. The shadows in the shot
are heightened which creates a mysterious tone on the shot. The audience
subconsciously connects the dark shadows to be hiding something mysterious and
unknown, just like the characters identity.
5. Tunnels have always been
interpreted to be sinister. They were
originally built as an aid to escape,
I.e. built in castles hundreds of years
ago. Placing the vulnerable, missing
girl in front of a tunnel can have
many meanings. It can either signify
that the girl is trapped with the
kidnapper with no escape. Or
alternatively it could be interpreted
that she is trying to escape from her
thoughts and hallucinations.
