A step by step tutorial on the editing techniques i used on day 2 of editing.

1. EDITING DAY 2

2. The first thing I did day 2 of editing, was explored the
colour correction tool in effects. Many of the shots we
filmed had too high key of lighting to match the mood
and feeling we were trying to give off. One exemplar
clip was the clips with the fake blood. As the blood was
fake, it was quite a bright red and wasn’t as realistic as
we thought it would be. To change this I dragged the
colour correction effect over the clip.
COLOUR CORRECTIONS
On the right hand side of the software the colour
correction colour board opened up. Here we were
able to change the colours, saturations and exposures
of a clip. I mostly played around with the exposure as
our problem was the clip was lighter than we wanted.

3. COLOUR CORRECTIONS
Here is a before screenshot of colour correcting the clip and an after
screenshot. It may not seem like too big of a difference but as you can
see the reds of the blood are a lot deeper than before, when they
seemed almost aluminous and vibrant. This slight colour correction
will give a realistic feel to the blood and also set the tone of the
trailer overall to be dark.

4. ACHIEVING A ‘GOING MENTAL’ CLIP
In my teaser trailer there is a shot of our character
with his hand on his head as if he was stressed or
going mental. To make this clip more interesting we
wanted to make the movement more obvious. To do
this, we had about 3 15secnd clips of him rubbing
his hand through his hair. I blade trimmed the clips
to be about 1-2 second long and re-arranged them
in a random order. I also layered the clips on top of
each other.
After layering the clips on top each other, I
changed the clips on the second and third tier of
the timelines opacity. Doing this allowed the clips
to play over each other whilst still being able to
see the original clip.

5. ACHIEVING A ‘GOING MENTAL’ CLIP
The end result from doing this looked something like this. It gives
the effect that our character is going mentally mad. I think it is a
really effective part of our sequence.
