Anchorage/main image
 This image holds the purpose of
providing visual appeal to the poster, this
conventions as the central focus of the
product. This image conventionally
includes the presence of leading
characters, such as the film’s leading
protagonist and perhaps an identification
of the antagonist. This image is effective
in conveying the overall visual style of the
film, accomplished through the
manipulation and use of colour and mise
en scene. Thus making for an important
centre piece to the product, in regards to
providing aesthetic visual appeal as well
as conveying the overall atmosphere and
genre of the promoted film.
Tag line
 This is a sentence or slogan that summaries the
film. The nature of this conventions changes
depending upon the genre, in which this text holds
the purpose of informing potential audience
members of the basic outline of the promoted film’s
narrative concept; effective in emphasising the
intended atmosphere and themes within the film.
Film title
This convention is essential in informing
audiences of the name of the promoted
film, of which they can then associate this
name with the rest of the piece. A title is
effective in providing context to a media
text.
Actor/director names
 Informing the audience of the leading creator of
the film, of which can be useful in attracting
audience appeal if featuring the name of a well-
established film director.
 Also effective in informing audience’s of the film’s
featured actors (of which can gain similar appeal if
those featured are of celebrity status or perhaps
deemed as possessing visual appeal).
Critic review
 A positive extract from a critic’s reviewing
regarding the featured film. This can be useful
in solidifying an audience’s willingness to
consume the film, as this helps to emphasise
the appeal of the film by possessing critical
acclaim form a relevant film
figure/organisation.
Production blurb
 Otherwise known as a billing block, this holds
the purpose of crediting the leading actors
and creators within the featured film. This
often includes: screenwriters, director,
producers and actors.
Website
 This holds the purpose of presenting
audience members with the opportunity of
becoming more involved within the film’s
released, allowing audience’s to access a
greater degree of film information upon the
product’s official website.
Release date
 Holds the purpose of informing viewer’s of the
date of the film’s cinematic release. This can
be useful in raising audience excitement for
an upcoming film, as they began to anticipate
the product’s promoted release.

Film poster- Conventions

  • 2. Anchorage/main image  This image holds the purpose of providing visual appeal to the poster, this conventions as the central focus of the product. This image conventionally includes the presence of leading characters, such as the film’s leading protagonist and perhaps an identification of the antagonist. This image is effective in conveying the overall visual style of the film, accomplished through the manipulation and use of colour and mise en scene. Thus making for an important centre piece to the product, in regards to providing aesthetic visual appeal as well as conveying the overall atmosphere and genre of the promoted film.
  • 3. Tag line  This is a sentence or slogan that summaries the film. The nature of this conventions changes depending upon the genre, in which this text holds the purpose of informing potential audience members of the basic outline of the promoted film’s narrative concept; effective in emphasising the intended atmosphere and themes within the film.
  • 4. Film title This convention is essential in informing audiences of the name of the promoted film, of which they can then associate this name with the rest of the piece. A title is effective in providing context to a media text.
  • 5. Actor/director names  Informing the audience of the leading creator of the film, of which can be useful in attracting audience appeal if featuring the name of a well- established film director.  Also effective in informing audience’s of the film’s featured actors (of which can gain similar appeal if those featured are of celebrity status or perhaps deemed as possessing visual appeal).
  • 6. Critic review  A positive extract from a critic’s reviewing regarding the featured film. This can be useful in solidifying an audience’s willingness to consume the film, as this helps to emphasise the appeal of the film by possessing critical acclaim form a relevant film figure/organisation.
  • 7. Production blurb  Otherwise known as a billing block, this holds the purpose of crediting the leading actors and creators within the featured film. This often includes: screenwriters, director, producers and actors.
  • 8. Website  This holds the purpose of presenting audience members with the opportunity of becoming more involved within the film’s released, allowing audience’s to access a greater degree of film information upon the product’s official website.
  • 9. Release date  Holds the purpose of informing viewer’s of the date of the film’s cinematic release. This can be useful in raising audience excitement for an upcoming film, as they began to anticipate the product’s promoted release.
