This document discusses conventions of different media forms including teaser trailers, magazines, and film posters. It explains that teaser trailers are short advertisements used to promote upcoming films, giving just enough information to generate interest without revealing the full plot. Magazine conventions discussed include using bright colors and fonts to attract readers to the cover, including a recognizable header, and featuring a main model or star. Film poster conventions outlined are using an eye-catching central image to draw in audiences, displaying the title prominently, and including information like the release date and production details.

2. Teaser trailer
The term 'teaser trailer' refers to a form of advertising that is short and combined
and uses small advertisements. Teaser trailers are used to promote a bigger
campaign. Often they are used to create excitement about a film up to a year
before it is actually released.
A teaser trailer is normally very short, such as 30 to 60 seconds long. In that time
it will have shown the audience a basic outline of what the new film is about,
included text to ask you questions which could relate to what the film is about, or
just take your thoughts away from what the film could really be about.
The purpose of a teaser trailer is to make you aware of a new film which is still
being edited or produced. The audience are made aware that there will be a film
released soon, and if they like the trailer from the film, then they are more likely
to enjoy the real film. The reason it is called a ‘teaser’ is because it doesn’t give
away everything to the audience, but enough for them to know some parts of
what will happen and know if they will like it.
It is important that the audience get a sense of the genre of the film even if the
teaser trailer is very short.
3. Magazine conventions
The image of the magazine must fit the content and the target audience. The name of
the magazine or header must also do this. The colour scheme is also very important
too in appealing to the target audience.
The front cover of a magazine is its main advertisement. Because of this it has to be
representative of the magazine as a whole. It should be bright , interesting and eye-
catching to make the reader buy the magazine.
There tends to be a variety of fonts on the cover to make it visually interesting and
eye-catching, this is seen through the whole magazine but stick to the same ones
throughout to create your recognisable style.
The title and header are usually at the top of the page, this logo or header will also
create the brand image of the magazine and will make it instantly recognisable for my
audience. Sometimes a slogan is used under the header to explain the magazine
content or to make it stand out from its rivals.
One main model/star photographed either in close up or medium shot which would
give direct address to the audience.
4. Poster conventions
Film posters are another form of film promotion that tries to draw in their
target audience before the film airs.
It must be eye catching and captivating to the audience and there must be a
central picture that will draw in the audiences attention. The title is displayed
in a large, eye-catching font and it clearly defines the film’s genre.
The poster should be designed to attract the largest audience possible. There
is usually an indication of when the film is being released, either a date or
‘Coming Soon’, although they are sometimes less specific, for example they
might say ‘In CinemasThis Summer’.
Information on the Directors and Production Company is often displayed in a
billing block at the bottom of the poster. There could be reviews or titles of
other films that the company has made.
5. Conventions are the generally accepted ways
of doing something. There are general
conventions in any medium, such as the use
of interviewee quotes in a print article,
but conventions are also genre specific.
