Evaluation
Approach
• The evaluation is worth 20 marks.
• Answer each question in as much detail as possible.
• Your evaluation must contain evidence of audience
feedback! – questionnaires and focus groups are
obvious ways of doing this
• Do not just write an essay for each question.
• Use a combination of text and images to answer each
question.
• Use a range of different approaches:
– Prezzi
– Slideshare
Approach Continued
• Spread the work out. Do not leave every
question until the last minute! Aim to
complete a minimum of 3 questions per week.
• Analyse your finished pages in as much detail
as possible for question 1. Make reference to
the relevant technical terminology that you
learnt when you carried out your research.
• Explain your decisions carefully. Focus on the
“why” in as much detail as possible.
• Analyse each image in as much detail as possible.
• Explain decisions about language carefully – e.g.
why did you choose your masthead?
• Always compare your own pages to real music
magazine pages. Focus on the codes and
conventions that you have followed or
challenged.
• Use the examples of the pupil blogs as a model
for your own work. Do not just copy the work on
the blog – make your own evaluation as original
as possible.
• Make sure that all of your work is completed by
the May 3rd Deadline!
Question1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
• You should answer this question with detailed
analysis of your own pages.
• Make a list of codes and conventions that you have
used or challenged.
• Explain every aspect of your pages in as much
detail as possible.
• Make comparisons with real music magazine pages
where possible.
Question 2
How does the Media Product represent a
particular social group?
• This question focuses on representation.
• Explain how you have created representation
in each of the pictures that you have used.
– Costume, pose, composition, make up, body
language , etc.
• Language choices can also represent the social
group that you are targeting.
Question 3
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• You could use your knowledge of Bauer and
Frontline to answer this question.
• Remember to focus on different platforms.
• Remember to explain “why” you have chosen
a specific institution in as much detail as
possible.
Question 4
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
• This questions is different to question 2 because
it focuses on the reader of your magazine.
• You need to explain the target audience for your
product carefully.
• You could use a combination of images and text
to create a profile of your target audience.
• Use your audience feedback to answer this
question.
Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
• You need to explain how the different elements
of each of your magazine pages were designed to
appeal to your target audience.
• You should focus on the language and the images
used in your pages in order to explain how you
targeted your audience.
• Use the term Mode of Address in your response
to this question.
Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
• Explain how you have used each of the technologies in as
much detail as possible.
• Focus on the following:
– Indesign
– Photoshop
– Digital Camera
– Blogger
– Prezi
– PowerPoint/Slideshare
– Any other hardware or software that you have used.
Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression from it to the full
product?
• Explain how you have developed your skills
from the preliminary task to the main task.
• Compare your preliminary task to the main
task by focusing how you have improved the
construction of the pages.
• Explain why you think you have improved.
Final Deadline
Every question must be completed on your blog
by 11.59pm on:
Friday, 3rd May 2014
Any work that is posted on your blog after
this date will be ignored.
Presentation of Answers
• The following is a suggested way of methods
to present your answers on the blog:
– Question 1 – 1 Prezi for each of your pages
– Question 2 – Blog post
– Question 3 – Blog post
– Question 4 – 1 Prezi
– Question 5 – Slideshare – at least 6 slides
– Question 6 – Slideshare or blog post
– Question 7 – Prezi/Slideshare/Blogpost
Remember
Do not just describe your pages!
• You must reflect on your work by analysing
the pages carefully.
• Use the technical terminology that you have
learnt when you analyse your pages
• Explain the decisions that you made in as
much detail as possible.
