1. The Double Page Spread
You must pay attention to the following details
when you create your double page spread:
• The Headline – font, size, position, colour, etc.
• The Image(s) – size, position, effects, etc.
• Columns – 2 or 3 is conventional
• Text – font, size, colour
• Branding – make sure that the name or logo
of your magazine appears on the article

2. • Drop caps – the enlarge letter at the beginning
of the opening paragraph
• Pull-quote –an enlarged quotation from the
article can appear in the text or on the image
• Page numbers (with branding) to match the
numbers on the contents page
• Website details at the bottom of the page
• Subscription information at the bottom of the
page
• Captions should be used to label images

3. • References to the section of the magazine that
the article appears in – e.g. The Q Interview
• Conventional language – e.g. Exclusive
• Credits – e.g. Q uses the phrase “Words” for
the text and “Portrait” for the image
• Conventional layout – e.g. The opening
paragraph came sometimes be in capital
letters, etc.
• The quality of your image(s) is very important.
