Practical Production

For my practical production, I have chosen to work in print. I will be producing
four pages for a magazine or newspaper at a specific audience including the
front page. I have also decided that my audience will be teenage girls and
young women. I have chosen to do all of this because I’ve used print during
my other practical work and I feel that I work better using print rather than
moving imagery. Furthermore, I would like to learn more techniques in
Photoshop and I have a major interest in journalism, writing, photography,
reading magazines, celebrities and fashion which will help me to do this
project. I have skills in writing and using Photoshop and I hope to learn more
about the journalism industry during this project.

Target Audience - Burton, Hartley and Maslow’s theories.

My product, which is a magazine, will appeal to a specific target audience
and, according to Burton’s theory; they will be socially grouped according to
age and gender whilst also being media grouped. The specific target
audience will be teenagers and young adult females from the middle class
background or higher background as those are the stereotypical people who
would read magazines. In addition to this, my target audience will use my
magazine to explore and understand their interests and ambitions through
Hartley’s theory of self. There ambitions or interests would be fashion,
celebrities, music, boys and other things and these topics would be identified
in my magazine. Also, thanks to Abraham Maslow’s theory of needs, my
target audience’s need would be esteem as they will have the need to feel
good about themselves.

Audience Behaviour/Motivation – Richard Dyer’s theory.

My magazine will offer information on fashion and beauty tips, celebrity gossip
and interviews; whilst improving the audience’s lives on relationships and
friendship problems. Readers will have clarity about important issues but will
also be part of a wide community of readers. They will improve their self-
esteem as they will become more attractive thanks to the tips on fashion and
beauty. Furthermore, they will be able to see what’s in style and what other
people are wearing in the magazine which will make them go and buy it at the
shops. This will solve the problem of poverty and will make them feel more
attractive. Also, they will feel better about themselves as my magazine will
feature models and people of all shapes and sizes.

Target Audience

My magazine will appeal to teenagers and young women from the middle or
upper classes who are interested in classy fashion and beauty. They might be
more interested in fashion rather than celebrity gossip.
