1. Target Audience
After narrowing down the type of magazine I want to mimic I did research into the
target audience of the magazines that appealed to me the most.
6. Attracting audiences
Barthes
Other factors to take into consideration are hermeneutic codes (Barthes) when
designing my magazine. These are frequently used in magazines to entice and attract
readers, such as article headlines and snippets giving an idea of what is inside of the
magazine to make the reader want to read on. I will use hermeneutic codes
throughout my magazine to keep it interesting and the reader engaged.
Uses and grats
Images and shot types will be a key feature in my production. I want to do a mid shot
so they are able to be close enough to see the details of my model but I also want the
top half of her body to be since so the reader can see the clothes she's wearing
fashion is going to be a part of my magazine. I want my model to look into the camera
to create a direct mode of address as it creates a relationship with the audience
7. Attracting audiences
Dyer & Lippmann
Dyer’s star theory promotes the idea that an image of a person is the selling point in a
production. The audience more likely to feed into this ideology is stereotypically young
people as they’re generally more interested in celebrities etc, that is why I will include a
model on my front cover.
Target Audience
My target audience is going to be aimed at 18-35 year olds, who enjoy fashion, fun events
out, food and interior design. I will aim towards both genders but mostly female as females
gravitate more towards the regional magazines that I have researched and have been
interested in. Due to this being my audience I will reflect this in my magazine e.g by having a
young women on my front cover, to act as a role model or representative for the target
audience.
