The landscape image is
shot outdoors,
probably in the
countryside. The
picture was taken
during the sun either
rising or setting as you
can see that a shadow
is cast over the
mountain, which adds
a spooky effect to the
road at the bottom.
This type of
photography is
interesting to me
because at different
times of the day, the
landscape and scenery
can change. I really like
the contrast of light and
dark in images as it can
change your
interpretation of a place.
There aren’t any
costumes or props
used, maybe abit of
Photoshop to
improve the contrast
between light and
shadow. Also there
may be a use of
Photoshop to
enhance the
smoothness of the
hills.
Existing Product
The thing I like
most about the
picture is the
various colours in it
that make the
landscape so
beautiful to look at,
the reflection that
is shown in the
water adds beauty
to the scenery
outside.
The beauty of this picture is half of
the landscape is darker (left side)
and the other half is lighter (right
side). This creates a eerie picture but
can also represent something like a
person having two sides.
Existing Product
This photograph is
taken in a field of hay.
The photo is definitely
edited as the hay and
the sky’s colour has
been enhanced and
changed to look a lot
nicer.
The reason I picked this Photo is because
I really like the sunset and sunrise
because every one of them is different
and attractive in its own way. The
different colours of the clouds against the
sky compliment each other especially as
the clouds also have abit of shadow
against them.
Existing Product
This pictures looks
like it is taken in the
street of America.
Probably taken pre
1990’s because of
the black and white
camera and the very
distinct old fashioned
cars on the road.
The pictures is
generally in light
colours (white and
grey) apart from the
palm tree and the
shadows it casts on
the floor.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– They are all of landscapes, and are all edited to enhance the photo using
Photoshop or photo editor.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– I will take landscape photos that are of interest to myself and my audience
and I will use Photoshop to make them look more appealing to people
that see it. Maybe I could turn it into an almost fantasy world by adding in
effects and increasing or decreasing contrast.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation:
– My observation is that both male and female will view my product as an equal amount of males and
females took my survey!
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– My product will appeal to both genders because it is of landscapes around rural and urban areas of
York.
Audience research
• Observation:
– My audience is of a young age, between 0 and 17. I would have thought an older audience
would have taken my survey as well as most 18 to 24 year olds may also be interested in
photography.
• What this says about my audience:
– My audience are teenagers.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– My product will appear to this audience as most teenagers today like taking photos, wether its
an Instagram post or it’s a selfie for snapchat.
Audience research
• Observation:
– My audience like taking photos on holiday, probably to keep the happy memories somewhere on there phone so that
they could go back and remember that time.
• What this says about my audience:
– This says that my audience, just the same as me, like to take photos! Wether they are interesting or beautiful, they are
memories that can be shared with friends or sights that people can enjoy.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– My product is about the beautiful landscapes and nature that is around us, and when you go on holiday you may have
taken or will take photos of a landscape that you really enjoy which links into my project and why my audience will
like my photos.
Audience research
• Observation:
– My audience prefer original images
• What this says about my audience:
– This means that my audience like the photo as it is taken and not how you could change it to look more
appealing
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I don’t think my audience will like my idea of editing the photos on Photoshop. In my project I was planning
on changing the colours and mixing my photo’s up abit as well as varying the contrast in my photographs
Audience research
• Observation:
– My audience likes a variety of different things when it comes to what is in the photograph.
• What this says about my audience:
– Three people said that the most interesting thing to see in a picture is scenery, landscapes and
nature. Another thing that was mentioned is the subject being the main focus in the shot.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– My product will appeal to my audience as I am including landscapes and nature in the photographs I
take which is what the audience said is interesting.
Audience research
• Observation:
– The majority of my audience like urban photography
• What this says about my audience:
– Most my audience like urban photography, however they also like countryside and city photography.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– Most of my photos will be of landscapes of the city which is what some of my audience like. I can
also take urban photos and put them as a collage together.
Interviews
Interview
• So what do you like to see when taking photos?
– I love seeing landscapes and the beautiful scenery!
• Great, and do you like taking photos on holiday?
– Yes I do
• last question! Do you prefer pictures taken on
phones or a camera?
– I don’t have a preference. However, I think
photographs taken on cameras are much better
quality wise as the photo comes out a lot nicer.
Interview
• Observation: My observation is that a member of my
audience and probably a lot of other audiences like to
take photos and see photographs of landscapes and
nature. He also told me that he preferred pictures on a
camera as the photo is in better quality and a lot
clearer to pinpoint every little detail.
• What this says about my audience: My audience like
clear, good photography.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My
product is taken by a high definition camera of
landscapes such as rooftop photos including sunsets.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths
and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• I took 4 pictures off the internet and explained what was in it. For example, colour, shadow, editing
and that they are all of landscapes.
• Strength of this is that I get to see and get knowledge of what I could do when I take my pictures. Also
looking at the pictures I got, it will inspire me to find a picture that could be equal to how nice the
ones I found off the internet are.
• I don’t really know any weaknesses apart from the fact that doing this is time consuming.
– Questionnaires
• I used a website called survey monkey to create my Questionnaire. I thought of a total of 7 questions
that I wanted answering by my audience and sent the link via email and Facebook. I then collected my
responses and analysed them to show an overview of what everyone liked and disliked.
• The strength of this is that I got an overall idea of what my audience was into and what they didn’t like
at all. This meant that when it came to complete my final product I knew what would please my
audience.
• The disadvantage of this is that not everyone may answer the questions properly as they may not
want to take it. So, to make it quick, they just click the first thing they see before they actually consider
the question.
– Interview
• I made three questions that I asked one of my audience members. As he responded I wrote down his
reply word for word as I didn’t want to make it seem like I was making things up. I then transferred the
questions and answers from the paper onto the computer.
• Strengths of this is I get to listen and understand what people like by getting a response in person.
• I cant find any disadvantage of doing an interview apart from maybe finding the time to sort out an
interview may take time.
Research Evaluation
• What sort of a response did you get?
– I got a fairly good response as I got to find out what people enjoyed and what
people dislike. This meant that I could include more things to make more
people enjoy my photos.
• How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– I distributed my survey to my family and relatives. I asked them a series of
questions that had multiple choice answers. An advantage of this is that I can
get views and opinions from viewers of what they like and dislike so I can get
my project to make most people enjoy what they see.
– A disadvantage of a survey is that with multiple choice you only get a varied
answer. Also, the fact that a lot of people have different ideas and it can be
quite hard to please a lot of the people that take them if they want different
things.

2. research

  • 2. Existing Product The landscape image is shot outdoors, probably in the countryside. The picture was taken during the sun either rising or setting as you can see that a shadow is cast over the mountain, which adds a spooky effect to the road at the bottom. This type of photography is interesting to me because at different times of the day, the landscape and scenery can change. I really like the contrast of light and dark in images as it can change your interpretation of a place. There aren’t any costumes or props used, maybe abit of Photoshop to improve the contrast between light and shadow. Also there may be a use of Photoshop to enhance the smoothness of the hills.
  • 3. Existing Product The thing I like most about the picture is the various colours in it that make the landscape so beautiful to look at, the reflection that is shown in the water adds beauty to the scenery outside. The beauty of this picture is half of the landscape is darker (left side) and the other half is lighter (right side). This creates a eerie picture but can also represent something like a person having two sides.
  • 4. Existing Product This photograph is taken in a field of hay. The photo is definitely edited as the hay and the sky’s colour has been enhanced and changed to look a lot nicer. The reason I picked this Photo is because I really like the sunset and sunrise because every one of them is different and attractive in its own way. The different colours of the clouds against the sky compliment each other especially as the clouds also have abit of shadow against them.
  • 5. Existing Product This pictures looks like it is taken in the street of America. Probably taken pre 1990’s because of the black and white camera and the very distinct old fashioned cars on the road. The pictures is generally in light colours (white and grey) apart from the palm tree and the shadows it casts on the floor.
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? – They are all of landscapes, and are all edited to enhance the photo using Photoshop or photo editor. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? – I will take landscape photos that are of interest to myself and my audience and I will use Photoshop to make them look more appealing to people that see it. Maybe I could turn it into an almost fantasy world by adding in effects and increasing or decreasing contrast.
  • 8. Audience research • Observation: – My observation is that both male and female will view my product as an equal amount of males and females took my survey! • How will your product appeal to this audience: – My product will appeal to both genders because it is of landscapes around rural and urban areas of York.
  • 9. Audience research • Observation: – My audience is of a young age, between 0 and 17. I would have thought an older audience would have taken my survey as well as most 18 to 24 year olds may also be interested in photography. • What this says about my audience: – My audience are teenagers. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – My product will appear to this audience as most teenagers today like taking photos, wether its an Instagram post or it’s a selfie for snapchat.
  • 10. Audience research • Observation: – My audience like taking photos on holiday, probably to keep the happy memories somewhere on there phone so that they could go back and remember that time. • What this says about my audience: – This says that my audience, just the same as me, like to take photos! Wether they are interesting or beautiful, they are memories that can be shared with friends or sights that people can enjoy. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – My product is about the beautiful landscapes and nature that is around us, and when you go on holiday you may have taken or will take photos of a landscape that you really enjoy which links into my project and why my audience will like my photos.
  • 11. Audience research • Observation: – My audience prefer original images • What this says about my audience: – This means that my audience like the photo as it is taken and not how you could change it to look more appealing • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I don’t think my audience will like my idea of editing the photos on Photoshop. In my project I was planning on changing the colours and mixing my photo’s up abit as well as varying the contrast in my photographs
  • 12. Audience research • Observation: – My audience likes a variety of different things when it comes to what is in the photograph. • What this says about my audience: – Three people said that the most interesting thing to see in a picture is scenery, landscapes and nature. Another thing that was mentioned is the subject being the main focus in the shot. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – My product will appeal to my audience as I am including landscapes and nature in the photographs I take which is what the audience said is interesting.

I can also take urban photos and put them as a collage together.
  • 15. Interview • So what do you like to see when taking photos? – I love seeing landscapes and the beautiful scenery! • Great, and do you like taking photos on holiday? – Yes I do • last question! Do you prefer pictures taken on phones or a camera? – I don’t have a preference. However, I think photographs taken on cameras are much better quality wise as the photo comes out a lot nicer.
  • 16. Interview • Observation: My observation is that a member of my audience and probably a lot of other audiences like to take photos and see photographs of landscapes and nature. He also told me that he preferred pictures on a camera as the photo is in better quality and a lot clearer to pinpoint every little detail. • What this says about my audience: My audience like clear, good photography. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product is taken by a high definition camera of landscapes such as rooftop photos including sunsets.
  • 18. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research • I took 4 pictures off the internet and explained what was in it. For example, colour, shadow, editing and that they are all of landscapes. • Strength of this is that I get to see and get knowledge of what I could do when I take my pictures. Also looking at the pictures I got, it will inspire me to find a picture that could be equal to how nice the ones I found off the internet are. • I don’t really know any weaknesses apart from the fact that doing this is time consuming. – Questionnaires • I used a website called survey monkey to create my Questionnaire. I thought of a total of 7 questions that I wanted answering by my audience and sent the link via email and Facebook. I then collected my responses and analysed them to show an overview of what everyone liked and disliked. • The strength of this is that I got an overall idea of what my audience was into and what they didn’t like at all. This meant that when it came to complete my final product I knew what would please my audience. • The disadvantage of this is that not everyone may answer the questions properly as they may not want to take it. So, to make it quick, they just click the first thing they see before they actually consider the question. – Interview • I made three questions that I asked one of my audience members. As he responded I wrote down his reply word for word as I didn’t want to make it seem like I was making things up. I then transferred the questions and answers from the paper onto the computer. • Strengths of this is I get to listen and understand what people like by getting a response in person. • I cant find any disadvantage of doing an interview apart from maybe finding the time to sort out an interview may take time.
  • 19. Research Evaluation • What sort of a response did you get? – I got a fairly good response as I got to find out what people enjoyed and what people dislike. This meant that I could include more things to make more people enjoy my photos. • How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – I distributed my survey to my family and relatives. I asked them a series of questions that had multiple choice answers. An advantage of this is that I can get views and opinions from viewers of what they like and dislike so I can get my project to make most people enjoy what they see. – A disadvantage of a survey is that with multiple choice you only get a varied answer. Also, the fact that a lot of people have different ideas and it can be quite hard to please a lot of the people that take them if they want different things.
