RESEARCH Harriet Smith
EXISTING PRODUCT
The location of the image seems to be in
some kind of (photography)studio. The
image is well-angled so you are able to
clearly see what the image is. The lighting is
well done as it reflects onto the product so
the image is clear but also gives it some kind
of effect as well. The image consists of two
photos, one black and white whilst the other
is coloured. The person holding the product
is holding it at an angle so you are able to se
both of the images in the portfolio clearly. It would appeal well with the audience because of the two different
contrasts on the photos. I think that the audience would prefer the
coloured photo rather than the black and white one since it adds
more detail to the photo making it look effective. I think the audience
would buy this product because of how all the photos are spread out
and presented neatly. They could also display the product somewhere
in their own home.
EXISTING PRODUCT
I’m unsure of where the location in this
photo is. But it appears to be in some kind of
garden. The photo is angled to create some
kind of effect. The image consists of multiple
photos in which all of them are black and
white. The lighting in the image is quite dark
but you are still able to see the photos either
way. It would appeal well with the audience
because the photos are intriguing.
I like the concept of this image because it’s quite simple. The overall contrast
of the image is good because of the simple black and white colouring. I like
how the image is sort of in motion, meaning that a person could have been
flipping through the portfolio as the photo was taken. This gives the image an
effective look which makes it more appealing and eye-catching. The audience
may want to buy these photos because they’re simple, meaning they won’t
attract too much attention if a person were to buy it and place it somewhere in
their house.
EXISTING PRODUCT
You are able to see the image clearly and see
where the location of the image is. The image has
an effect making it appear the be black and white.
The location of the image seems to be in some
kind of valley or forest. The whole image includes
a lot of landscape as well as a lot of nature, such
as flowers and trees. But it doesn’t include any
animals and/or people in the photo. The audience
may appear to this kind of photograph because
there’s a lot to look at as well as the effect of
black and white onto the image makes it appear
simpler rather than an image full of colour.
Because of the black and white effect, you are
unable to see if there is any natural light aside
from the sky.
EXISTING PRODUCT
The image is a painting of some kind
of garden of park, painted with
watercolours. The overall image is
quite bright because of the different
colours and shades used such as light
blue, green etc.. I think that an older
audience would appeal more the this
photograph (adults). A person would
buy this product because the
photograph is nice to look at because
of the light coloursThere is no offensive or inappropriate imagery/text in this image which
makes it look more appealing and would make people in other age groups
more interested in this product. The use of watercolours doesn’t give the
image an ‘off-putting’ vibe to it, instead it gives the image a more relaxing
vibe.
RESEARCH ANALYSIS
What common features do the researched products have?
oThey are all linked with the theme of photography/art. They all also
have the same theme e.g. landscape and wildlife.
What aspects of the research will you include within your
own work?
oI will include the same sort of aspects that these products have, such
as how they are presented and what colours are used. I’ve decided to
do this because I think that they match well with the theme I have
chosen and will help me to create a good-looking product in the end.
I will also use a range of colour and text to make my final prodict
look good.

AUDIENCE PROFILE
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
My primary
audience is from
the ages 16-25. My
secondary audience
is from the ages
25-40.
• I chose this particular age range because many
people from that category take photos and/or
like to look at them. The majority of this age
range also use social media, either to look at
photos or post their own.
Gender
Everyone. • My primary audience is both male and female
because I think that my product will appeal to
both male and female. But I also think that
certain images will appeal to different people,
such as a landscape photo, for example. It
could appear more to my male audience rather
than my female audience.
Psychographic
I think my main
type is ‘Belonger’
because it covers
things that are to
do with my
products.
• I chose this type of psychographic because I
think it suits my audience best. This is because
my audience may just prefer one kind of
image(s) that has a certain kind of effect on it
or something else to do with the photo itself.
I think my main • I chose this type of social status because I think
RESEARCH
EVALUATION
RESEARCH EVALUATION
Give an overview of how you conducted your research.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method.
 Product Research: I conducted my research by looking at
already existing products that are similar to mine and
compare the two with similarities and differences. I compared
my own product to another and write down the different
similarities and differences I found between the two products.
 Questionnaires: I conducted my research through
questionnaire by creating a survey that asks questions related
to my topic, ‘photography’, where I asked my audience
various questions such as “do you take photos on your phone
or camera?” or “do you edit your photos?”.
 Interviews: I conducted my research through interviews by
asking five different question around my chosen topic
‘photography, where I asked my audience various questions
such as “do you take photos on your phone or camera?” or
“do you edit your photos?”.
RESEARCH EVALUATION
oWhat sort of a response did you get?
I got quite a few responses from my survey, each of them
being a bit similar to the others e.g. most put ‘yes’ when the
question “Do you take photos?” was asked. I also found that
the majority of my audience were under the age of 18. When I
asked the question “Which do you prefer; Greyscale or
Bright/Vibrant?” the responses were divided half and half for
both options. This was the same for another question, “Do you
edit your photos?”.
oHow did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a
disadvantage.
I distributed by survey by sending it through email. An
advantage of this was that the people I sent it to almost
immediately replied to my email and doing the survey. A
disadvantage is that I could send it to people I knew. If I were
to post the survey onto social media I could’ve got more of a
spread out response. If I were to have gotten a more of a
spread out response

2. research

  • 2. EXISTING PRODUCT The location of the image seems to be in some kind of (photography)studio. The image is well-angled so you are able to clearly see what the image is. The lighting is well done as it reflects onto the product so the image is clear but also gives it some kind of effect as well. The image consists of two photos, one black and white whilst the other is coloured. The person holding the product is holding it at an angle so you are able to se both of the images in the portfolio clearly. It would appeal well with the audience because of the two different contrasts on the photos. I think that the audience would prefer the coloured photo rather than the black and white one since it adds more detail to the photo making it look effective. I think the audience would buy this product because of how all the photos are spread out and presented neatly. They could also display the product somewhere in their own home.
  • 3. EXISTING PRODUCT I’m unsure of where the location in this photo is. But it appears to be in some kind of garden. The photo is angled to create some kind of effect. The image consists of multiple photos in which all of them are black and white. The lighting in the image is quite dark but you are still able to see the photos either way. It would appeal well with the audience because the photos are intriguing. I like the concept of this image because it’s quite simple. The overall contrast of the image is good because of the simple black and white colouring. I like how the image is sort of in motion, meaning that a person could have been flipping through the portfolio as the photo was taken. This gives the image an effective look which makes it more appealing and eye-catching. The audience may want to buy these photos because they’re simple, meaning they won’t attract too much attention if a person were to buy it and place it somewhere in their house.
  • 4. EXISTING PRODUCT You are able to see the image clearly and see where the location of the image is. The image has an effect making it appear the be black and white. The location of the image seems to be in some kind of valley or forest. The whole image includes a lot of landscape as well as a lot of nature, such as flowers and trees. But it doesn’t include any animals and/or people in the photo. The audience may appear to this kind of photograph because there’s a lot to look at as well as the effect of black and white onto the image makes it appear simpler rather than an image full of colour. Because of the black and white effect, you are unable to see if there is any natural light aside from the sky.
  • 5. EXISTING PRODUCT The image is a painting of some kind of garden of park, painted with watercolours. The overall image is quite bright because of the different colours and shades used such as light blue, green etc.. I think that an older audience would appeal more the this photograph (adults). A person would buy this product because the photograph is nice to look at because of the light coloursThere is no offensive or inappropriate imagery/text in this image which makes it look more appealing and would make people in other age groups more interested in this product. The use of watercolours doesn’t give the image an ‘off-putting’ vibe to it, instead it gives the image a more relaxing vibe.

  • 23. AUDIENCE PROFILE Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range My primary audience is from the ages 16-25. My secondary audience is from the ages 25-40. • I chose this particular age range because many people from that category take photos and/or like to look at them. The majority of this age range also use social media, either to look at photos or post their own. Gender Everyone. • My primary audience is both male and female because I think that my product will appeal to both male and female. • 25. RESEARCH EVALUATION Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method.  Product Research: I conducted my research by looking at already existing products that are similar to mine and compare the two with similarities and differences. I compared my own product to another and write down the different similarities and differences I found between the two products.  Questionnaires: I conducted my research through questionnaire by creating a survey that asks questions related to my topic, ‘photography’, where I asked my audience various questions such as “do you take photos on your phone or camera?” or “do you edit your photos?”.  Interviews: I conducted my research through interviews by asking five different question around my chosen topic ‘photography, where I asked my audience various questions such as “do you take photos on your phone or camera?” or “do you edit your photos?”.
  • 26. RESEARCH EVALUATION oWhat sort of a response did you get? I got quite a few responses from my survey, each of them being a bit similar to the others e.g. most put ‘yes’ when the question “Do you take photos?” was asked. I also found that the majority of my audience were under the age of 18. When I asked the question “Which do you prefer; Greyscale or Bright/Vibrant?” the responses were divided half and half for both options. This was the same for another question, “Do you edit your photos?”. oHow did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage. I distributed by survey by sending it through email. An advantage of this was that the people I sent it to almost immediately replied to my email and doing the survey. A disadvantage is that I could send it to people I knew. If I were to post the survey onto social media I could’ve got more of a spread out response. If I were to have gotten a more of a spread out response
