3. Research
Surveys
• Strengths: The survey helped me decide on what I should do for my products by them answering my
questions
• Weaknesses: Some of the answers for the questionnaires weren’t helpful because they tied and left
me without an answer. An example of this is there to the right, we have a survey that I conducted
where I asked a question “what special effect should I do first”. As you can see lightning and star field
had tied and there for I was unable to make a decision which to produce first.
• In questionnaires I don’t know if they answered the questions truthfully.
Audience Profile
• Strength: The audience profile helped me think about what my target audience willbe.
• Weaknesses: I probably should of thought of more things to write about in audience profile e.g. Age
Range and Social Status.
Experiments
• Strengths: The Production Experiments helped me improve my final product because it made me
understand how to do these effects and improve upon them. I used all the techniques for the lightning
effect that I learned ie: blending options, filter>render, inverting colours, layer blending, colour
overlay ect. I realized that this effect was simple enough to make. I also made a note that
when I make the final lightning effect I should try to make it more straight to make it look
more realistic so I did that.
• Weaknesses: I only had time to make 1 experiment.
Interviews
• Strengths: Interviews can be helpful to get a personal opinion from your target audience
• Weaknesses: In the interviews, I asked questions that I weren’t going to use in products. The questions
were about what superhero and villain should I use for my product.I did not write much in the
interviews. I also didn’t use anything that I got from the interview because I decided not to do a hero
theme
4. Planning
• Strength:
• The mind maps I created are very detailed helped me list out any possible ideas
• The mood board helped me to decide on what special effects I should do first. I wanted to do all of them
but the ones that were chosen are the ones I really wanted to do
• The informal proposal helped me think of what my target audience would be
• The mood board influence my final products because I wanted my work to be artistic
• The layout of the lightning effect on my pre production helps draws your eyes in to the image with the
lightning striking the building
• Props & Locations in preproduction helped me to remind myself on what software I needed to use and where I
could use them at
• I feel that I covered all possibilities in health and safety and since that I didn’t get hurt during my production I feel
like I succeeded
• Weaknesses:
• I did not complete discounted ideas either because I forgot or had memory stick issues
• My schedule may have been the weakest part of my pre production because the evaluation took longer
then expected
• The style sheet doesn’t have enough colours for me to talk about. I couldn’t think of any more colours that
I’d probably use either
•
5. Time Management
• I have kept up with my schedule all the way through because I did do some
work at home as well
• If I had more time I would have made more special effects such as:
Motion blur, smoke, face swap,
• Also, if I had more time I would have improved the shape of the star field
effect because to me it doesn’t look natural enough. Mine has hard edges
while the professional one does not
• As well as shape, I also would change
some of the colour because I’m not
overly happy with the colours I've chosen
6. • Most of my target audience are male so I slightly geared towards them by making the
images use actiony and cool looking special effects. The female audience would also like
my product because the special effects I used also looks very pretty (apart form the
banana, that’s just funny)
• The age of my target audience is 8-27, to appeal to this audience I used very interesting
and modern special effects. The dispersion splatter effect image also uses a character
from a game called Destiny to appeal to the young and older audience
• My social grade audience are C1,C2,B because they have enough disposal income to
spend on art works.
Target Audience Appeal
7. Technical Qualities
We roughly used
the same colour
for our lightning
effect
Their lightning effect
is in the center of the
image while mine is
slightly to the left
Red = Differences
Blue = Similar
We both used a
darkish background
to highlight the
lightning
The background of my
image is a castle
mansion hybrid thing
while their background
is a graveyard
Each building has a
very gothic feel to it
My lightning effect
looks more wild while
theirs is more straight
8. Technical Qualities
We both used the
lens flair effect
represent the sun
My star field effect
has a harder edge
then theirs
The colours I used
are slightly different
compered to theirs
Red = Differences
Blue = Similar
We used the space
concept for our
star field effect
We both use a starry
background to show
this is space
My effect looks
bigger while theirs’
looks longer by
going of the screen
9. Technical Qualities
Red = Differences
Blue = Similar
Mine has a symbol in
the background while
theirs only has a
white background
We both used an
action pose to
make our special
effect stand out
We both used a
“character” to show
of our dispersion
splatter effect
In my design I also
made a reflection for
style but they don’t
have one probably
because he's jumping
Both of our
characters
has a prop in
their hands
My guy looks like he's about to kill the
basket baller before he scores XD
The brushes that
we used to make
the effect are
slightly different
10. Technical Qualities
In mine there is only one
thing on fire which is the
banana but they have 3
things on fire, the guitar
and 2 speakers
We both used a
black background
so the fire effect
will be more visible
We both also
made smoke to
make the fire look
more realistic
Their fire effect
looks brighter
then mine
Mine image is
probably more
funny then theirs
We both have the
same concept. An
object on fire
11. Aesthetic Qualities
Fire Effect:
• I like this image because it looks really
random and funny. I would actually
buy it if it was on a t-shirt
• Is creative because no one ever
thought about making an image of a
banana on fire
• If I had to improve anything I think it
would be the fire. The resolution of
the fire doesn't look as good as the
resolution of the banana plus you can
tell that I the fire is somewhat
reflected so I would change the fire
with a better one and try not to make
it look reflective
Dispersion Splatter Effect:
• Out of all the special effect that I’ve
done I think this is my favourite one
because of how it looks
• I like how the effect instantly makes
the the image looks arty
• I also like how the character looks like
he crumbling away from existence
• The background adds something very
appealing to the image but I don’t
know what
• If I had to improve something I would
have made the under part disappear
as well
Star Field Effect:
• I think that this might be the most technical
effect out of all the products that I made
probably because of it doesn’t require an
image to make it
• I do like how the lens flair effect represents
the sun
• I like the star field because I makes he image
look interesting and nice to look at
• I think the thing to improve of is the shape of
the star field because to me the shape of the
field doesn’t look very natural
• I also think I should have change the colours
of the star field because I'm not overly happy
with the ones I’ve chosen
Lightening Effect:
• I like the picture that I’ve chosen
because it looks suitable too the
effect I did
• The lightning effect looks very cool
and probably realistic
• I like how the lighting makes the
image looks like that it was taken
when a storm happened
• The one thing I would improve upon
might be to find a image with a bigger
sky because I was told that lightning
strikes at the highest point and since
my lighting wasn’t striking the highest
point so it made the picture look
unrealistic
Before
12. Audience Appeal
The effects appeals to
my age range (8-27)
because the effects
that I made are very
modern
The images I made will appeal to
both genders because all the images
has something the each gender
would like such as: the star field
effect appeals to the male audience
since it looks very sci-fi while the
female audience would like it
because of the pretty colours used,
The male audience would like the
dispersion effect because of how
the character looks and the female
audience would like the images
because of the effect
This will appeal to my
psychographic (Balance)
because the effects looks
new and different
compered with others
and this would appeal to
them because they are a
mixture of achievers and
socially conscious groups
My social status targets
(C1,C2,B) will buy my
work because I would sell
the images at a good
price since they have
enough disposable
income to buy them
14. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like how you have a range of different things. You haven’t just done the same thing over and
over again. I like the banana photo as even though it is quiet simple when looking at it I like
how bight the colours are even the banana is still bright in colours even though its got the fire
above it. So this way you can still clearly see the banana through the fire. I like the galaxy
photo as you can tell that a lot of work has gone in to making it how it is. I would also say that
it really does look like the galaxy. But I also like how you have a glare on it as well even though
I would say it is a little hard to see. With the lightning effect I like how it really stands out from
everything else on the page. As that seems to be the only thing apart from the grass but even
then the lightning is a lot brighter with colour. So I like how much it stands out. Then finally I
like the dispersion splatter because I think you’ve done the fading of it really well, you’ve
made sure that it doesn't just randomly cut off. It also doesn't all just start I them place.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I really only have one improvement and that is for your galaxy I think the flare is quiet hard to
see. But apart from that I don’t really have any improvements for your work I think everything
you have done you’ve done it well. You can tell that you’ve really taken your time you haven’t
rushed the work that you have done. You’ve taken your time and made sure it’s the best that
you could make it.
15. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I really liked the dispersion splatter image because I really liked the
way that the colour was displayed, the contrast in colour was excellent
and the effect left trailing behind the character looked equally brilliant
– I feel these aspects helped to add a strange (but good) sign of mystery
– I also really liked the stars image an I liked the way that the brighter
and bigger lights did not stop you from wanting to analyse and
appreciate the whole image
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I would have liked to see a little more experimentation in the banana
fire image although it was still a fantastic image
16. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– The haunted house – I like how you put the lightning in it
because it really suits the genre( horror). Also I like how you
made the picture dark. I also like you put crows in the
background to make it suspicious.
– Banana fire- I never seen this before but when looked I thought
it was interesting and funny. Also I like how you put a dark
background to make the banana fire stand out with its bright
colours.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– nothing I thought it was interesting and funny.
17. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree with all the positive feedback that I got with the peer feedback
in particular: “I think you’ve done the fading of it really well”, “I never
seen this before but when looked I thought it was interesting and
funny”, “I really liked the dispersion splatter image because I really
liked the way that the colour was displayed, the contrast in colour was
excellent and the effect left trailing behind the character looked
equally brilliant”. I am pleased that they agreed with me because I like
the dispersion splatter effect the most as well
– I agree that I needed to experiment with the fire banana effect more
because I wanted to make the fire look less reflective
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I do not understand by what they meant by “I really only have one
improvement and that is for your galaxy I think the flare is quiet hard
to see”. I don't really think the flair effect is hard to see at all
18. Peer Feedback Summary
– The one thing I would is to experiment more with
the banana fire effect by either making it look less
reflective and maybe changing the fire colour to
blue or something else
