Barcode- A common item used on the front cover in order for
the consumer to purchase the product.
Product
placement- this
could be used to
show the reader
what will appear
later on into the
magazine. Usually
used when the
product is trying to
be sold to the
audience and
attract the attention
of people to get the
magazine.
Masthead- The masthead is yellow and large so
that it stands out from the blue background and
attracts the attention of the reader. Use of images
actually show
you what the
texts are
describing to
give you an
exact
overview of
what the
product looks
like. It also
makes the
page look
more
interesting.

The light
blue/turquoise colour
which was taken from
the colour of the
ocean in Barbados is
a perfect contrast to
the all black
background. This
instantly attracts the
audience to read the
information provided.
The different colours
are used to show
different categories of
things that will be
involved in the Dive
Fest.
The website at the
bottom is used to give
people a place to get
more information from
like location of where
everyone is going to be
diving, fishing and rules
and regulations of the
competition mentioned in
the poster.
Directly under the title is
the dates that the dive
fest is happening. This is
essential information for
the reader to notice them
when they should go to
meet new people and
have fun.

Barcode- A
common
convention used
on
the front cover in
order for the
consumer
to purchase the
media product.
Date and price- This is a
common
convention you would
expect in all
magazines. When the
price is displayed in
smaller font, it is usually a
sign that the company
doesn’t want it standing
out as it is not as
appealing to the
audience.
Masthead- The
masthead is a
golden yellow colour
which contrasts the
white background
from the ridge. It
also stands out from
the dark blue colour
of the ocean.
All the colours of the
text that are used in
this front cover are
relevant to diving as
they are all seen when
diving. For example
the gold is a symbol
for the sand, the blue
is the water and the
white could be the
bubbles or the rock
that the guy is in
between.

This style of double page
spread is very common
amongst magazines that
want to show things off
because it attracts a lot of
attention.
The thing that I don’t
like about this product
however is that the
word “Size” is very hard
to read with the white
colour in the
background. The yellow
writing is extremely
hard to read and I don’t
think the circle with text
inside was necessary or
eye catching.
This page is really good
because it shows you about
what the writer is talking
about through an image as
well as the good amount of
detail describing and
talking about the sharks.
The writing is kept short
and simple in paragraphs
aligned in a 2 by 3 grid
keeping the writing
compact yet filling the page
with an equal amount of
space.
The double page spread
overall is a nice concept
with detailed writing and a
nice picture to go with it
but I do not like the first
page because it doesn’t
stand out to me as
something that had a lot of
time and effort put into it
and it is hard for me to
read.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– They are all related to diving. They all use the colour blue (even
in different shades).
– The two front covers both have a Gold/yellow title with white
writing underneath it.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your
own production work?
– I intend to use the colours you usually see underwater for my
text colour.
– I might also add some small side images to the front cover to
showcase what is inside the magazine.
– For a Poster I will use a dark background followed by a
contrasting colour of light blue to make it stand out. This is a
good way to attract the attention of customers.
