3. Research
The research was helpful because I could look at the key
features of my documentary poster . This was helpful
because it shows how the poster for a similar product like
the one I intended to create, this is helpful because I get to
see and understand the different techniques they use on
there poster, such as: Location, angle, effect, post
production, lighting, composition, mise en scene,
costume, props, colours, font and audience appeal. I did
this four different times for four different products similar
to mine and overall it was helpful. I then found it more
helpful by doing questionnaires to see what to put in my
final product. I them analysed what feedback I got and
made the poster on what ideas other people gave me.
The research was unhelpful because it slowed me down to
put more detail on over slides. This would mean I would of
got higher grade, if I had more time on the other parts of
the project. The effect of this is that I lose marks on the
project. Another problem was that it was confusing and
didn’t give clear questions on what to do. The effect is that
I couldn’t make clear answers and achieve a clearer
answer.
4. Planning
• The planning I did for my final product was to
choose a style of font and colours that would go
amazingly with the documentary poster, therefore
grabbing the readers attention. I then collected
images that were similar or inspired me to do the
documentary poster I wanted to achieve. I then
created the layout plan for the documentary
poster and DVD cover, this helped me dramatically
as I knew/gave me a idea of what the layout was
going to be for my final product poster and DVD
cover. The strengths of my planning where to find
the right colours and font style. This improved my
final product by grabbing the viewers attention. I
then found myself being great at choosing the
right images as this would achieve a better mark
for my final product as it would help me and
educate me to make it better.
• The weakness of my planning was spending to
much time on the style sheet this effected other
parts of the planning as I didn’t have much time
on the layout and location and prop slides as I was
confused on what to do for the style sheet.
5. Time Management
• I did not mange my time well as I wished I had do more work and detail on
other parts. I do think if I were to do this again I would successfully
complete many projects on time and be well detailed. For example I
focused more on the graphic design experiment than making the real
thing. I do think if I were to do this again I would defiantly focus on the
more important projects as this would greatly improve my grade,
therefore I would of added better effects to the real thing. Overall if I
would had additional time I would have made better designs and better
effects to the overall piece.
6. Technical Qualities
The background is
similar as the
forest/nature look
refreshing and eye
opening.
Both posters are to do
with nature however
mine is to survival and
nature.
My poster is different
as the bird is holding
the metal plate with
the documentary
name on it. On the
other poster the bird is
not holding anything.
This tells us the other
poster is more about
nature than survival
They both have birds
which tell us how
adventurous the
documentaries each
are.
My poster is different
as the birds are not
the same species and
in my poster the bird is
flying, where in the
other one its not. This
tells the viewer how
amazing and exciting
my poster is.
In my poster the title
has a different font
and colour as the
other poster. This is
because mine font
and colour grabs the
viewers attention.
In my poster you
can see a snakes,
however in the
other poster it
does not have
different animals.
This tells me its
not about survival
of the fittest
where my poster
is.
In my poster it has
a camp fire where
the other one it
does not. This tells
mine is about
survival where the
other one is not.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
My work looks inspiring and delightful to the human eye. This shouts to the
viewer its about a documentary. I do think its creative as it shows how wild
and vast the wilderness can be. My favourite visual is the DVD cover as it
shows how dangerous yet so kind. It also seems soft and warm to the eye.
The specific image I like is the camp fire as it brings warmth and safety to the
documentary poster. I feel I could improve the design of the animals by
making a better edge. I could do this by using the magic wand tool to create a
smoother and sharper image that would stand out to the viewer. I do feel it
could improved by making the house appeal more to the audience. I could of
done this by selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous
and enjoyable the outside can be. I do think the work needs improving as the
eagle has not been cropped sharply and smoothly as I hopped. I would of
used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it would make it sharper
and bolder to the audience therefore making them want to know more. The
strengths are that it tells the audience how adventurous and unique the
outdoors can be.
8. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to 16-34, the reason I have chosen this target market is because its
channels 4s target market. For my audience research I created a questionnaire in which
they told me what type of audience I should aim at, for example the age and social status
(the persons specific personality). I believe I have appealed to my target audience because
I have focused on aiming at 16-34 years old and focused on aiming at the personality of
people interested in discovery and survival. My audience was interested in the idea of me
stopping in a forest over night, I intended to do this to appeal to my target audience
however due to bad weather on the day I intended to film it I was unable to.
According to my audience they wanted me to under go a difficult hard-core survival task
and I intend to do so on my final project however for this project I was unable to appeal to
them in this respect due to bad weather on filming on the day. My audience also ask for on
the questionnaire that I am a companied by other people in order to make surviving the
night more interesting, I had all this prepared and organised people to go with me how
ever I was unable to do so because of bad weather.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– “I like the age rating as it tells me who the target audience
is and like the idea of different animals on the cover as it
gives you a glimpse of what to expect to see.”
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• “I think the the DVD cover should have a back cover
like all normal DVD covers do however it doesn't’t and
doesn't’t follow a template for one that doesn't’t mean
its not good it could jut make it better”
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– “what I like about this product are the fabulous
settings that create a atmosphere the creatures shows
what will be included in the film”.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– “I think the title should be more improved and more
professional”.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– “I think that the product is amazing and screams
survival as it, represents mother nature.”
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• “You need to add more smooth edges and
more different variants of animals”.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I do agree with having more smother edges and a better variant as this
would scream survival and a better poster to grab the viewers
attention. I do agree that putting a age rating was amazing and helped
the viewer understand what age the documentary will be about. I do
agree that I need a back cover for the DVD cover as this would help
the viewer understand what the documentary will be about as this
would make the viewer more interest in my documentary.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I disagree about improving the title, because its great as it grabs the
viewers attention and therefore makes them want to buy it. I also
disagree that its targeted at younger audiences as it is for both
genders and for 16-34 year olds because it’s the same as channel 4
which my documentary will be based around their guide lines.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
I will change the DVD cover as it would have a back cover explaining what the
documentary will be about. This will make the viewer to buy it as it will show how
dangerous and nightmarish the outdoors can be. This will make them want to learn on
how to build fires and how to eat the right foods. I will also change the design of the
animals by making a better edge. I could do this by using the magic wand tool to create a
smoother and sharper image that would stand out to the viewer. I feel It would do a
great job of advertising to the viewer as it would grab their attention. I will change the
poster by making the house appeal more to the audience. I could of done this by
selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous and enjoyable the outside
can be. I will also change the eagle because he has not been cropped sharply and
smoothly as I hopped. I would of used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it
would make it sharper and bolder to the audience therefore making them want to know
more. Overall I the feedback gave extraordinary opinions and ideas that helped me
achieve a great documentary poster and DVD cover.
