Production Process Evaluation
Research
The strengths of my research are the design, detail and layout that’s been put in. The research
was helpful because I could look at the key features of my documentary poster, documentary
trailer, and DVD cover. This was helpful because it shows how the poster for a similar product like
the one I intended to create, this is helpful because I get to see and understand the different
techniques they use on there poster, such as: Location, angle, effect, post production, lighting,
composition, Mise en scene, costume, props, colours, font and audience appeal. I did this four
different times for four different products similar to mine and overall it was helpful. I then found
it more helpful by doing questionnaires to see what to put in my final product. I then analysed
what feedback I got and made the poster on what ideas other people gave me.
The research was unhelpful because it slowed me down to put more detail on over slides. This
would mean I would of got higher grade, if I had more time on the other parts of the project. The
effect of this is that I lose marks on the project. Another problem was that it was confusing and
didn’t give clear questions on what to do. The effect is that I couldn’t make clear answers and
achieve a clearer answer. The questionnaire was boring and in my opinion useless as it didn’t
really get my point across to the audience. The reason because of this my audience became
confused and overall didn’t understand most of the questions. If I were to improve these
weaknesses it will effect my product as it will develop a better understanding when creating my
final product as I will have more useful and relevant information to use. It will also effect the
product as well as the design as If I were to improve the research the design may have be even
better than the one I created, therefore achieving a better grade/marks.
Planning
I then did planning my final product was to choose a style of font and colours that would go
amazingly with the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover, therefore
grabbing the readers attention. I then collected images that were similar or inspired me to
do the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover I wanted to achieve. I then
created the layout plan for the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover,
this helped me dramatically as I knew/gave me a idea of what the layout was going to be
for my final product poster, documentary trailer and DVD cover. The strengths of my
planning where to find the right colours and font style. This improved my final product by
grabbing the viewers attention. I then found myself being great at choosing the right images
as this would achieve a better mark for my final product as it would help me and educate
me to make it better.
The weakness of my planning was spending to much time on the style sheet this effected
other parts of the planning as I didn’t have much time on the layout and location and prop
slides as I was confused on what to do for the style sheet. By doing improvements my
product will change as the product will be overall better if I made a full proof plan as there
will be hardly any problems when I was making the final product. My product will also
change as I will also know what I am doing and also I will save time as I would of know what
to do.
Time Management
I did not mange my time well as I wished I had do more work and detail on other parts. I do
think if I were to do this again I would successfully complete many projects on time and be
well detailed. For example I focused more on the graphic design experiment than making
the real thing. I do think if I were to do this again I would defiantly focus on the more
important projects as this would greatly improve my grade, therefore I would of added
better effects to the real thing. Overall if I would had additional time I would have made
better designs and better effects to the overall piece. However I did mange my time well in
some cases, for example I managed to finish the DVD cover in a day which gave me more
time working on different areas of my FMP. Therefore this resulted in me in gaining more
marks, and maybe possible a better grade. The initial plans PowerPoint took a significant
amount of time as I didn’t know what my final major project was going to be and some of
the questions on the initial plans where confusing and down right fiddly, when it came
down to it.
Another PowerPoint that I spent a lot of time on was Production experiments as it didn't
know what to experiment with and what ideas to come up with, as my planning and
research were terrible for my final major project. The PowerPoint Pre-Production did not
slow me down as I knew what to do as I I had perfect planning for this occasion, which
meant I knew what I was doing and what I was going to write for the Pre-Production
questions. This also helped me to focus on more detail as I had more time to write and
improve my work.
Technical Qualities
The similarities of the posters are the theme of survival as both are evolved in documentary shot image.
Another similarity is the design as it shouts hard core nature and recourses. However there are differences
as the old poster with Bear Grllys has destruction and despair in the background, where the newer poster is
peaceful and calming to look at. Another difference is the layout as in the older poster it has the logos at the
bottom of the page where the newer poster has the title in bold and high up, so that its clear and visible to
see among the audience passing by. Another similarity is the text and other information is located on both
poster at the bottom of the page. This useful as it will tell the viewer/reader information about the
documentary, E.G. when its coming out and where its going to be played.
Old Poster New Poster
Technical Qualities
The similarities of the posters are the layout as you can see the title is basically in the same place as the
older DVD cover. Another similarity is the style of the font its both clear and recognizable, therefore it will
stand out more to the audience. Another similarity you can see is the location of the images as they are
presented shamelessly to the audience , as they need to be the center of attention to the walking customers
passing by. However there are differences as the tone is completely different as well as the colours. You can
see that the older DVD cover is dark and gloomy where the newer DVD cover is light and friendly to the
audience. The reason they have different tones and colouring is because they are different genres, therefore
targeting different audiences.
Old DVD New DVD
Technical Qualities
Older Premiere Pro Newer Premiere Pro
There are many similarities such as the titles and tools as you can can see that I used the exact same tools to make the project, because of this
the layout of the audio and video clips are nearly the exact same. There is another similarity and that is the time length of each of the projects as
they both end around the minute mark. They also start with a opening title card which have similar text font and text colour. However there are
differences as the tone is completely different as well as the colour of the background. You can see that the older premiere pro is dark and
gloomy where the newer premiere pro is light and friendly to the audience. The reason they have different tones and different coloured
backgrounds is because they are different genres, therefore targeting different audiences.
The struggles with these different types of version where confusing as they weren't compactable with each other as this led to countless time
walking back and forth to change the data on the old version to the newer version. Once I have changed the data and save I couldn't’t work In
certain lessons as I would have to do it all over again. The Pre-production process was that I needed to make a story board, style sheet, survival
poster. The process took longer as I had more problems with the different versions.
Technical Qualities
Existing product My Project
The title colour and font style are similar as I wanted to address to the audience what the documentary is about and who’s going to host/star it.
However I have noticed differences between the products as there are more audio effects seen in my product/project, for example sound effects
and audio transitions. Where as in the existing product you can see there are fewer audio effects but there are more video effects, such as video
transitions. Another similarity is the way the both the documentary trailers are shot, as we both have used long shot, close up, short shot,
upwards shot and down ward shots are seen throughout my existing shot and my project. Another difference is the length of the existing product
which is around the 30 minute mark, where my product is around the 30 second mark. We both are aiming at a similar audiences as my product
is aimed for people who want to learn survival skills and existing product does this as well. However there are differences such as the place and
atmosphere are different, for example the existing product has a lonely and serious tone, where my product has a silly fun atmosphere. My
product and the existing product are similar, as they both are the same type of documentary, which is a reflexive documentary which is a
personal documentary where the film maker might do pieces to camera. The reflexive Documentary shows the film makers experiences through
his journey and throughout the documentary.
Aesthetic Qualities
My work looks inspiring and delightful to the human eye. This shouts to
the viewer its about a documentary. I do think its creative as it shows
how wild and vast the wilderness can be. My favourite visual is the DVD
cover as it shows how dangerous yet so kind. It also seems soft and
warm to the eye. The specific image I like is the mountains as it brings
realism and danger to the documentary DVD cover. I feel I could
improve the design of the images by making a better edge. I could do
this by using the magic wand tool to create a smoother and sharper
image that would stand out to the viewer. I do feel it could improved by
making the house appeal more to the audience. I could of done this by
selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous and
enjoyable the outside can be. I do think the work needs improving as
the eagle has not been cropped sharply and smoothly as I hopped. I
would of used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it would
make it sharper and bolder to the audience therefore making them
want to know more. The strengths are that it tells the audience how
adventurous and unique the outdoors can be. The improvements will
effect my product by that the designs of the images as they will have
better edges and better quality. More improvements will change my
product as the I would have more detailed images as I would of saved
loads of time if I would of used the wand tool as it was easy to use and
relatively easy to understand how to use it. My product will also change
as the house will be more appealing, resulting it getting more attention
as it stand out more. My product will engage the audience because the
landscape and the freshness of the background show the audience how
amazing and yet beautiful the outside will be. The text will also engage
the audience as it will present them with ideas of what to expect to see
when watching this film.
Audience Appeal
I will appeal to 16-34, the reason I have chosen this target market is because its
Channels 4’s target market. For my audience research I created a questionnaire
in which they told me what type of audience I should aim at, for example the
age and social status (the persons specific personality). I believe I have appealed
to my target audience because I have focused on aiming at 16-34 years old and
focused on aiming at the personality of people interested in discovery and
survival. My audience was interested in the design of the documentary and
overall finish to it. I then intended to do this to appeal to my target audience
however due to bad weather on the day I intended to film I was unable to, until
the nest day. According to my audience they wanted me to undergo a difficult
hard-core survival task and I intend to do so on my final project however for this
project I was unable to appeal to them in this respect due to bad weather on
filming on the day. My audience also ask for, on the questionnaire, that I am
accompanied by other people in order to make surviving the night more
interesting, I had all this prepared and organised people to go with me however I
was unable to do so because of bad weather. I will also appeal to needs Driven
type of people because my product is great for people who act of instinct at the
documentary is all about acting on instinct. Another psychographic that my
product that can target is Type A as they will be resourceful and can relate to my
documentary

– I disagree that the music doesn’t seem to fit the footage as the music sounds too powerful like
as if it was a action movie or a superhero movie.
Peer Feedback Summary
I am going to change the DVD cover as it would have a back cover explaining what the
documentary will be about. This will make the viewer to buy it as it will show how peaceful and
refreshing the outdoors can be. This will make them want to learn on how to build fires and how
to eat the right foods. I will also change the design of the images by making a better edge. I could
do this by using the magic wand tool to create a smoother and sharper image that would stand
out to the viewer. I feel It would do a great job of advertising to the viewer as it would grab their
attention. I will change the poster by making the images more appealing to the audience. I could
of done this by selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous and enjoyable the
outside can be. I will also change the text because he has not been cropped sharply and smoothly
as I hopped. I would of used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it would make it
sharper and bolder to the audience therefore making them want to know more. Overall I the
feedback gave extraordinary opinions and ideas that helped me achieve a great documentary
poster and DVD cover. I will then improve the music as it doesn’t seem to fit the footage as the
music sounds too powerful like as if it was a action movie or a superhero movie. I also improve
the overall video being longer as it seems to short for a documentary trailer. These improvements
will effect my product by making the DVD cover with more detail, this will in turn make the DVD
cover more understandable to the customer/audience. Another improvement that will effect my
product will be cropping as this will improve the overall design of the quality of the image, as this
will make the product more smoother and overall soft to the eyes.

7. fmp evaluation

  • 3. Research The strengths of my research are the design, detail and layout that’s been put in. The research was helpful because I could look at the key features of my documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover. This was helpful because it shows how the poster for a similar product like the one I intended to create, this is helpful because I get to see and understand the different techniques they use on there poster, such as: Location, angle, effect, post production, lighting, composition, Mise en scene, costume, props, colours, font and audience appeal. I did this four different times for four different products similar to mine and overall it was helpful. I then found it more helpful by doing questionnaires to see what to put in my final product. I then analysed what feedback I got and made the poster on what ideas other people gave me. The research was unhelpful because it slowed me down to put more detail on over slides. This would mean I would of got higher grade, if I had more time on the other parts of the project. The effect of this is that I lose marks on the project. Another problem was that it was confusing and didn’t give clear questions on what to do. The effect is that I couldn’t make clear answers and achieve a clearer answer. The questionnaire was boring and in my opinion useless as it didn’t really get my point across to the audience. The reason because of this my audience became confused and overall didn’t understand most of the questions. If I were to improve these weaknesses it will effect my product as it will develop a better understanding when creating my final product as I will have more useful and relevant information to use. It will also effect the product as well as the design as If I were to improve the research the design may have be even better than the one I created, therefore achieving a better grade/marks.
  • 4. Planning I then did planning my final product was to choose a style of font and colours that would go amazingly with the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover, therefore grabbing the readers attention. I then collected images that were similar or inspired me to do the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover I wanted to achieve. I then created the layout plan for the documentary poster, documentary trailer, and DVD cover, this helped me dramatically as I knew/gave me a idea of what the layout was going to be for my final product poster, documentary trailer and DVD cover. The strengths of my planning where to find the right colours and font style. This improved my final product by grabbing the viewers attention. I then found myself being great at choosing the right images as this would achieve a better mark for my final product as it would help me and educate me to make it better. The weakness of my planning was spending to much time on the style sheet this effected other parts of the planning as I didn’t have much time on the layout and location and prop slides as I was confused on what to do for the style sheet. By doing improvements my product will change as the product will be overall better if I made a full proof plan as there will be hardly any problems when I was making the final product. My product will also change as I will also know what I am doing and also I will save time as I would of know what to do.
  • 5. Time Management I did not mange my time well as I wished I had do more work and detail on other parts. I do think if I were to do this again I would successfully complete many projects on time and be well detailed. For example I focused more on the graphic design experiment than making the real thing. I do think if I were to do this again I would defiantly focus on the more important projects as this would greatly improve my grade, therefore I would of added better effects to the real thing. Overall if I would had additional time I would have made better designs and better effects to the overall piece. However I did mange my time well in some cases, for example I managed to finish the DVD cover in a day which gave me more time working on different areas of my FMP. Therefore this resulted in me in gaining more marks, and maybe possible a better grade. The initial plans PowerPoint took a significant amount of time as I didn’t know what my final major project was going to be and some of the questions on the initial plans where confusing and down right fiddly, when it came down to it. Another PowerPoint that I spent a lot of time on was Production experiments as it didn't know what to experiment with and what ideas to come up with, as my planning and research were terrible for my final major project. The PowerPoint Pre-Production did not slow me down as I knew what to do as I I had perfect planning for this occasion, which meant I knew what I was doing and what I was going to write for the Pre-Production questions. This also helped me to focus on more detail as I had more time to write and improve my work.
  • 6. Technical Qualities The similarities of the posters are the theme of survival as both are evolved in documentary shot image. Another similarity is the design as it shouts hard core nature and recourses. However there are differences as the old poster with Bear Grllys has destruction and despair in the background, where the newer poster is peaceful and calming to look at. Another difference is the layout as in the older poster it has the logos at the bottom of the page where the newer poster has the title in bold and high up, so that its clear and visible to see among the audience passing by. Another similarity is the text and other information is located on both poster at the bottom of the page. This useful as it will tell the viewer/reader information about the documentary, E.G. when its coming out and where its going to be played. Old Poster New Poster
  • 7. Technical Qualities The similarities of the posters are the layout as you can see the title is basically in the same place as the older DVD cover. Another similarity is the style of the font its both clear and recognizable, therefore it will stand out more to the audience. Another similarity you can see is the location of the images as they are presented shamelessly to the audience , as they need to be the center of attention to the walking customers passing by. However there are differences as the tone is completely different as well as the colours. You can see that the older DVD cover is dark and gloomy where the newer DVD cover is light and friendly to the audience. The reason they have different tones and colouring is because they are different genres, therefore targeting different audiences. Old DVD New DVD
  • 8. Technical Qualities Older Premiere Pro Newer Premiere Pro There are many similarities such as the titles and tools as you can can see that I used the exact same tools to make the project, because of this the layout of the audio and video clips are nearly the exact same. There is another similarity and that is the time length of each of the projects as they both end around the minute mark. They also start with a opening title card which have similar text font and text colour. However there are differences as the tone is completely different as well as the colour of the background. You can see that the older premiere pro is dark and gloomy where the newer premiere pro is light and friendly to the audience. The reason they have different tones and different coloured backgrounds is because they are different genres, therefore targeting different audiences. The struggles with these different types of version where confusing as they weren't compactable with each other as this led to countless time walking back and forth to change the data on the old version to the newer version. Once I have changed the data and save I couldn't’t work In certain lessons as I would have to do it all over again. The Pre-production process was that I needed to make a story board, style sheet, survival poster. The process took longer as I had more problems with the different versions.
  • 9. Technical Qualities Existing product My Project The title colour and font style are similar as I wanted to address to the audience what the documentary is about and who’s going to host/star it. However I have noticed differences between the products as there are more audio effects seen in my product/project, for example sound effects and audio transitions. Where as in the existing product you can see there are fewer audio effects but there are more video effects, such as video transitions. Another similarity is the way the both the documentary trailers are shot, as we both have used long shot, close up, short shot, upwards shot and down ward shots are seen throughout my existing shot and my project. Another difference is the length of the existing product which is around the 30 minute mark, where my product is around the 30 second mark. We both are aiming at a similar audiences as my product is aimed for people who want to learn survival skills and existing product does this as well. However there are differences such as the place and atmosphere are different, for example the existing product has a lonely and serious tone, where my product has a silly fun atmosphere. My product and the existing product are similar, as they both are the same type of documentary, which is a reflexive documentary which is a personal documentary where the film maker might do pieces to camera. The reflexive Documentary shows the film makers experiences through his journey and throughout the documentary.
  • 10. Aesthetic Qualities My work looks inspiring and delightful to the human eye. This shouts to the viewer its about a documentary. I do think its creative as it shows how wild and vast the wilderness can be. My favourite visual is the DVD cover as it shows how dangerous yet so kind. It also seems soft and warm to the eye. The specific image I like is the mountains as it brings realism and danger to the documentary DVD cover. I feel I could improve the design of the images by making a better edge. I could do this by using the magic wand tool to create a smoother and sharper image that would stand out to the viewer. I do feel it could improved by making the house appeal more to the audience. I could of done this by selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous and enjoyable the outside can be. I do think the work needs improving as the eagle has not been cropped sharply and smoothly as I hopped. I would of used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it would make it sharper and bolder to the audience therefore making them want to know more. The strengths are that it tells the audience how adventurous and unique the outdoors can be. The improvements will effect my product by that the designs of the images as they will have better edges and better quality. More improvements will change my product as the I would have more detailed images as I would of saved loads of time if I would of used the wand tool as it was easy to use and relatively easy to understand how to use it. My product will also change as the house will be more appealing, resulting it getting more attention as it stand out more. My product will engage the audience because the landscape and the freshness of the background show the audience how amazing and yet beautiful the outside will be. The text will also engage the audience as it will present them with ideas of what to expect to see when watching this film.
  • 11. Audience Appeal I will appeal to 16-34, the reason I have chosen this target market is because its Channels 4’s target market. For my audience research I created a questionnaire in which they told me what type of audience I should aim at, for example the age and social status (the persons specific personality). I believe I have appealed to my target audience because I have focused on aiming at 16-34 years old and focused on aiming at the personality of people interested in discovery and survival. My audience was interested in the design of the documentary and overall finish to it. I then intended to do this to appeal to my target audience however due to bad weather on the day I intended to film I was unable to, until the nest day. According to my audience they wanted me to undergo a difficult hard-core survival task and I intend to do so on my final project however for this project I was unable to appeal to them in this respect due to bad weather on filming on the day. My audience also ask for, on the questionnaire, that I am accompanied by other people in order to make surviving the night more interesting, I had all this prepared and organised people to go with me however I was unable to do so because of bad weather. I will also appeal to needs Driven type of people because my product is great for people who act of instinct at the documentary is all about acting on instinct. Another psychographic that my product that can target is Type A as they will be resourceful and can relate to my documentary
  • 13. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – I like how you have edited the video in to each video clip, You’ve also have made the transitions very smooth and professional, that fit well together • What improvements could have been made to the product? • Make the overall video longer as it seems to short for a documentary trailer.
  • 14. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – I liked the first production logo at the beginning and the time its on screen for. I like the way that the footage all fits together and slight parts of dialogue in it. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – I think the music in the product needs improvements so that it fits it better.
  • 15. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – I like the comedy aspect to it as it gives a positive vibe throughout. It is also unique for a documentary. – The footage is great as it clearly shows that you are surviving in the wild • What improvements could have been made to the product? – The music doesn’t seem to fit the footage as the music sounds too powerful like as if it was a action movie or a superhero movie.
  • 16. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? – I agree that I have edited the video in to each video clip and I also agree that I have made the transitions very smooth and professional, that fit well together. – I agree that the comedy aspect to it as it gives a positive vibe throughout. It is also unique for a documentary. – I agree that the footage is great as it clearly shows that you are surviving in the wild • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? – I disagree that the overall video being longer as it seems to short for a documentary trailer. – I disagree that the first production logo at the beginning and the time its on screen for. I disagree the way that the footage all fits together and slight parts of dialogue in it. – I disagree that the music in the product needs improvements so that it fits it better. – I disagree that the music doesn’t seem to fit the footage as the music sounds too powerful like as if it was a action movie or a superhero movie.
  • 17. Peer Feedback Summary I am going to change the DVD cover as it would have a back cover explaining what the documentary will be about. This will make the viewer to buy it as it will show how peaceful and refreshing the outdoors can be. This will make them want to learn on how to build fires and how to eat the right foods. I will also change the design of the images by making a better edge. I could do this by using the magic wand tool to create a smoother and sharper image that would stand out to the viewer. I feel It would do a great job of advertising to the viewer as it would grab their attention. I will change the poster by making the images more appealing to the audience. I could of done this by selecting a better image. The image tells me how adventurous and enjoyable the outside can be. I will also change the text because he has not been cropped sharply and smoothly as I hopped. I would of used the magic wand tool if I were to do this again as it would make it sharper and bolder to the audience therefore making them want to know more. Overall I the feedback gave extraordinary opinions and ideas that helped me achieve a great documentary poster and DVD cover. I will then improve the music as it doesn’t seem to fit the footage as the music sounds too powerful like as if it was a action movie or a superhero movie. I also improve the overall video being longer as it seems to short for a documentary trailer. These improvements will effect my product by making the DVD cover with more detail, this will in turn make the DVD cover more understandable to the customer/audience. Another improvement that will effect my product will be cropping as this will improve the overall design of the quality of the image, as this will make the product more smoother and overall soft to the eyes.
