EXISTING PRODUCT
This a creepy looking poster with the Michael Myers
mask directly at anyone who’s looking at it. The thing
that stands out the most, apart from the Michael
Myers is the words he’s back as the viewer will have
seen this films before with this being the fourth film.
The creepy old looking house at the effect that this is
the place that there’s returning to and if it would be
similar to yours then its would add a really creepy
effect. The font being simplistic and the whiteness
matching the mask shows a connection there. Also
the the return of the Michael Myers and the four are
in orange, which also connotates to Halloween with
it being the color of pumpkins and connects with the
title Halloween. The words “ ten years ago he
changed the face of Halloween” it’s acting like it’s
talking to the viewer that’s looking at the poster. If
you look closely at the house you can see a shadow
figure at the doorstep showing that he’s back and
has already arrived. The close up on the front
forward face shows the eyes and how the eyes blend
in with the darkness but are looking directly at you
EXISTING PRODUCT
This is a still from a horror/comedy called Shaun of the dead, where you can see the genre in both
films with the creepy dark shadow behind them but them smiling at each other to give it a cheerful
light humor as they are not taking it very seriously. The dark shadowy street as well as the smoke
coming off the car in the background gives it a very dangerous, giving the viewer the thought that
Shaun and Ed (two people in the scene still) shouldn't’t be there. The smirk they are both giving with
the thinking that it’s a drunk in the middle of the street and not a zombie because it’s a more realistic
approach. As a viewer they know what they have come to see, so they know something that the
character don’t and that is really not a drunk. The makes the viewer want to carry on watching as
they consider their reaction to a zombie standing the distance to be funny and it not being the same
as anybody else reaction.
EXISTING PRODUCT This a pretty cool t-shirt with it being black shows
that it is a horror movie with the dark being a thing
that people fear. The white simple font of Halloween
matching the Michael Myers mask shows that his
characteristics match with the word Halloween by
definition, of them both being known for the
supernatural. The broken rusted effect with the
mask and the title being broken shows how old they
are and how both subjects live on. The slight damp
of redness (rust effect to add to its age or it could
blood with that being a horrifying thing by it’s self)
shows it almost looking like its dripping down his
face to add tot the horror. The darkness of the
background of shirt covers half of his face to show
that his hiding in the shadows, giving a creepy effect
to anyone looking at it. The angle of face looking
face forward and not even to aside gives the effect
that he’s looking at you. This makes the person
interested with the guy on the shirt, thinking that it’s
a pretty creepy effect to have the face looking
directly at them. The eyes even though they are
usually blacked out they are still giving out that scary
effect.
EXISTING PRODUCT
The analysis of this poster shows Michael Myers in
darkness which shows the blade of the knife he’s
carrying a lot more noticeable. With him resting on
the banister with he’s emotionless face looking
down at the person who’s looking at the poster
shows that he looks more superior to that person.
The white font with the red background
surrounding it shows that its is a horror film, with
both films having connection with Halloween. The
words “everyone is entitled to a good scare” shows
that this is a film that is everyone would want tot
watch because they would want tot be scared by it.
The blade of the knife shining through the darkness
is giving a creepy effect as is contrary's well as to
who it would be aimed at would be the person who
went to see the film at the cinema.
RESEARCH ANALYSIS
• What common features do the researched products have?
• The dark shadowy effect each of them is brought with to add more mystery to
what it is you’re looking at.
• The face forward position being common one with villain often looing at the
viewer to scare them.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• Out of all the products I have researched upon my research I think that the mask
along with the dark shadow effect is pretty cool, along with the mask and the
blacked out eyes to match with background and give the poster I’m doing a rust
effect to make it look more terrific with a old and battered look.

INTERVIEW 1
Luke Headland
Questions)
1. What do you like about horror movie trailers and why?
2. What do you think the key features are in a horror movie poster?
3. If you were or are affected by the music in a horror movie trailer, what type of music would it be and why?
4. Does the main villain of a horror film have to be extremely powerful to make you enjoy or only a little bit so that they kill people just?
5. Have you got any phobias, and if you don’t which one could you imagine you having and why?
Answers)
1. "I like horror movie trailers because they give you an insight on the film before it has been released. You can also judge the horror movie by the trailer and
you decided if it appeals to your own interests.”
2. “I think that a key feature for a horror movie poster would have to be the thing that links between the meaning of the film but it would have to be scary.”
3. “ If I was to be affected by a horror movie trailer it would have to be low pitch, intimidating and sinister. The reason I picked these was because it can be
quite climatic, leading you to the unknown.”
4. “I prefer it when the main villain is just a normal killer that goes round killing and not to be all powerful by killing a loads of people by ease.”
5. “Yes I do have a phobia, I have arachnophobia (fear of spiders) . I don’t know why this but its just a natural reaction.”
INTERVIEW 1
• Observation: through this observation there key pieces to focus on such as
there are certain elements in a trailer or a poster that should be linked
towards the main threat but without giving to much away. Also the audience
member prefers it when the villain is a psychopath going around killing
people, not anything too supernatural.
• What this says about my audience: this says that the key basis of horror
movies is iconic figures being based upon how just normal people can turn
mad.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will appeal to this
audience as it shows a whole bunch of psychopaths in group going around
killing people. I am also going to do a poster and a trailer but with them both
being simplistic without giving to much away.

2. “The main key features to have in a horror movie poster is to have the main villain staring directly at the person looking at the poster.”
3. “Music that would affect me when watching a horror movie trailer would be iconic classical music but with a added twist to make it slower or gloomier.”
4. “ Anything really with the villain being powerful altogether or not really powerful is just creepy enough for me as the villain will always creep me out.”

focused at looking at the audience when in the poster, and in a trailer have a
slow suspenseful beginning then a jump-scare at the end. Also when the

  • 2. EXISTING PRODUCT This a creepy looking poster with the Michael Myers mask directly at anyone who’s looking at it. The thing that stands out the most, apart from the Michael Myers is the words he’s back as the viewer will have seen this films before with this being the fourth film. The creepy old looking house at the effect that this is the place that there’s returning to and if it would be similar to yours then its would add a really creepy effect. The font being simplistic and the whiteness matching the mask shows a connection there. Also the the return of the Michael Myers and the four are in orange, which also connotates to Halloween with it being the color of pumpkins and connects with the title Halloween. The words “ ten years ago he changed the face of Halloween” it’s acting like it’s talking to the viewer that’s looking at the poster. If you look closely at the house you can see a shadow figure at the doorstep showing that he’s back and has already arrived. The close up on the front forward face shows the eyes and how the eyes blend in with the darkness but are looking directly at you
  • 3. EXISTING PRODUCT This is a still from a horror/comedy called Shaun of the dead, where you can see the genre in both films with the creepy dark shadow behind them but them smiling at each other to give it a cheerful light humor as they are not taking it very seriously. The dark shadowy street as well as the smoke coming off the car in the background gives it a very dangerous, giving the viewer the thought that Shaun and Ed (two people in the scene still) shouldn't’t be there. The smirk they are both giving with the thinking that it’s a drunk in the middle of the street and not a zombie because it’s a more realistic approach. As a viewer they know what they have come to see, so they know something that the character don’t and that is really not a drunk. The makes the viewer want to carry on watching as they consider their reaction to a zombie standing the distance to be funny and it not being the same as anybody else reaction.
  • 4. EXISTING PRODUCT This a pretty cool t-shirt with it being black shows that it is a horror movie with the dark being a thing that people fear. The white simple font of Halloween matching the Michael Myers mask shows that his characteristics match with the word Halloween by definition, of them both being known for the supernatural. The broken rusted effect with the mask and the title being broken shows how old they are and how both subjects live on. The slight damp of redness (rust effect to add to its age or it could blood with that being a horrifying thing by it’s self) shows it almost looking like its dripping down his face to add tot the horror. The darkness of the background of shirt covers half of his face to show that his hiding in the shadows, giving a creepy effect to anyone looking at it. The angle of face looking face forward and not even to aside gives the effect that he’s looking at you. This makes the person interested with the guy on the shirt, thinking that it’s a pretty creepy effect to have the face looking directly at them. The eyes even though they are usually blacked out they are still giving out that scary effect.
  • 5. EXISTING PRODUCT The analysis of this poster shows Michael Myers in darkness which shows the blade of the knife he’s carrying a lot more noticeable. With him resting on the banister with he’s emotionless face looking down at the person who’s looking at the poster shows that he looks more superior to that person. The white font with the red background surrounding it shows that its is a horror film, with both films having connection with Halloween. The words “everyone is entitled to a good scare” shows that this is a film that is everyone would want tot watch because they would want tot be scared by it. The blade of the knife shining through the darkness is giving a creepy effect as is contrary's well as to who it would be aimed at would be the person who went to see the film at the cinema.
