Observation: The observation, I have made looking at my results is that 12.50% of the people that took part in my
survey were female, I have also observed that the highest number of people that took part in my survey were males
with this percentage being 87.50%.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that a large percent of my audience are male.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to this audience, because the colours I
will use in my short film will connect with a male audience more than a female audience.
Observation: The observation I have made, looking at my results is that 6.25% of people answered
“Adventure” as there favourite genre of film, 12.50% of people both answered “Comedy” and “Horror”
as there favourite film genre, 31.25% of people answered “Action” as there favourite genre of film and
the highest percentage of people answered “Sci-Fi” as there favourite genre of film, with the
percentage being 37.50%.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that Sci-Fi is the most popular out of every
genre, amongst young people.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal, because my short film will
be based on the horror genre and looking through the results that I have been given I can see this
audience enjoy the horror genre and therefore will be attracted to my product.

having good theme music in a horror film classifies it as good, 12.50% of people answered that having
good acting in a horror film classifies it as good and the highest percentage of people answered that
having a good storyline in a horror film classifies it as good, with the percentage being 68.75%.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that people enjoy a good storyline in a horror
film than anything else and to them that classifies it as good.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to his audience because,
when I come to produce my product I will ensure that my film has a good storyline to then attract this
audience.

that they look for professional use of sound effects when watching a horror film, 37.50% of people
answered that they look for professional use of acting when watching a horror film and the highest
percentage of people answered, that they look for professional use of angle shots when watching a
horror film, this percentage being 43.75%.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that overall people look for a professional
use of angle shots above anything else, when watching a horror film.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to this audience because
when I come to produce my product I will ensure I take good angle shots. Ultimately this will attract
this type of audience.
Observation: The observation I have made, looking at my results is that 43.75% of people answered “Yes” to
identifying with a male or female character from a horror movie, 56.25% of people answered “No” to identifying
with a character.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that a large percentage of people that answered this
question do not identify with a character from a horror movie, this also tells me that 43.75% of people do
identify with a character.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to this audience, because when I
come to produce my product I will ensure that the characters in my film connect with this audience by listening
to the feedback they have given me.
Observation: The observation I have made, looking at my results is that 25% of people both
answered that they identify with ditzy friend and the crowd favourite in a horror film, 12.50% of
people answered that they identify with the wise elder in a horror film and the highest percentage of
people answered, that they identify with the villain in a horror film, the percentage being 37.50%.
What does this say about my audience?: This tells me that a very large percentage of people
answered that they identify with the villain in a horror film.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to this audience because
when I come to produce my product I will ensure that this audience type connect with the characters
in my film.
Observation: The observation I have made, looking at my results is that I have been given a number of different responses
to this question, also that people like some of the most popular films.

also that they are interested in some of the most popular films made.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal to this audience, because when I come to
produce my product will look at this existing films and see how I can take ideas from them to put in to my own film.
Observation: The observation I have made, looking at my results is that 6.25% of people answered that they
preferred a happy ending to a horror film, 43.75% of people answered that they preferred a cliffhanger ending to a
horror film and the highest percentage of people answered that they preferred and un-happy ending to a horror
film, this percentage being 50%.

film, this also tells me that this audience least like a horror film to have a happy ending.
How will your product appeal to this audience?: My product will appeal will appeal to this audience, because
when I come to produce my product I will ensure look at all of the feedback I have been given and use it in my film.
 Research viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info. Look up article, features or
stories related to your potential audience
Below I have found an article, containing information about the short film festival located in York. The article expresses the
possibility of the film festival running for longer in future years due to its grow seen in recent years.
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/14027382.Aesthetica_Short_Film_Festival_in_York_could_grow_longer_after_record_figures_
for_2015_event/
Below I have found an article, containing information about sales of TV and Video revenue the current revenue stands at
$286.17bn worldwide. https://www.statista.com/topics/964/film/
Below I have found an article containing information and statistics based upon, cinema audience distribution in
the UK by age and gender.https://www.statista.com/statistics/296240/age-and-gender-of-the-cinema-audience-
uk/
 Below I have found an article containing information and statistics based on favourite movie/television genre
by gender, I believe this information I have found will be vital in my research process as it contains real life
statistics. https://www.statista.com/statistics/254115/favorite-movie-genres-in-the-us/
 Below I have found an article containing information and statistics, about the percentage of young people that
make up the audience in the movie industry. This is a great piece of information that I have found because this
pin-points exactly what I need to researchhttp://www.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/bfi-audiences-
2015-11.pdf
 Below I have found an article containing information and figures based on the most popular horror films, the
figures in this article have been gathered from the viewers of each film. https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-
list/the-most-utterly-terrifying-figures-in-film
 Looking at all of my secondary research, I have seen that my audience prefer an un-happy ending to a horror film, they
also look for professional use of angle shots above anything else when watching a horror film, I have also seen that they
enjoy watching the most popular horror films from the feedback I have been given, I have also seen that a large
percentage of my audience are male, judging from the feedback I have been given. I have also seen that my audience’s
favourite genre is Sci-Fi, above all of the others. I have also seen from the feedback I have been given is that my
audience don’t tend to identify with a character from a horror film.
 Having looked at British Board Of Classification (BBFC) I have chosen to
certificate my film a 12A, I have chosen this because I feel as if this is most
suitable age range, having looked at all of the content I wish to put in my film,
some scenes in my film my film
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fDzdDfviLI
 I have chosen this existing short film, because its relatable to the genre I want to base my on product on. This existing
product uses good use of angels, sound effects and uses a professional use of acting, there are many different
techniques I would like to take form this film to, inspire me for when I come to produce my own product. After watching
this short film, there are many elements that I like, the angles used, the sound effects also, they are very realistic, and
life like, I really feel as if they bring the film to life almost, and it really keeps the viewer on the edge of there seat. The
special effects also used in this film play a big part in bring the storyline and the whole film in general to life. When I
come to produce my product I will take away this films use of realistic sound effects and use it to inspire me when I
come to produce my own.
 I have chosen this existing short film because, I feel as if some of the elements used in the film will inspire me when I
come to produce my own product. The elements that I like are the use of good, professional sound effects this film has, I
also like the professional use of acting that you can clearly see when watching this film. Although this short film isn’t in
the horror genre category, it still has a lot of different elements that will be useful to me. This film also has quite a dark
feel to it, you can feel this when watching, and I think this is very much expressed in certain scenes, for example when
the woman opens up the closest, the music that’s played is designed to make the viewer feel on edge and make you
feel something bad is going to happen, you feel as if something, or someone may jump out. Other element I will get
inspiration from is the music used in this film, and how it has the power to make the viwer feel many different emotions.
 I have chosen this existing short film, because I feel as if this has some great professional elements that I think will
inspire me when I come to produce my product, the elements that I like from this existing product is its professional use
of sound effects and its use of professional acting, I also like the way this film starts, it makes the viewer think that
nothing bad is going to happen, then suddenly you hear noise. The acting in this film is exactly done and it really brings
the film to life, and makes the viewer feel as if they can connect with the actor because they in a way will be feeling the
same. I also like the use off different angles that are used within this film, throughout you are left on a cliff-hanger until
the end, the angles make sure that not everything is given away during the film, and this ultimately keeps the viewer
wondering “What’s going to happen?”.
EXPERIMENTS
Camera/Editing/Audio Experiments
Be prepared to add extra slides
 The tools I used during my filming process were, Premiere Pro, I
used this after I had filmed all of my footage, before I had started my
filming, I had to make sure I knew what I was going to base my
experiment on, to do this I had to plan a storyline I also completed an
Initial Plans, on this a produced a mood board and to different mind
maps. Before I started my filming we were placed in to groups,
everyone in the group had a certain role they would play in the
filming process.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
 After producing my experiments, and having done the filming process the elements I will take away from my
experiments are the different types of shots and angles I have created while filming. I think these shots and
angles would make my final product look very professional when I come to produce it. Another element I
would take away from my experiments are parts of the storyline I used, using parts of them in my final product
would go really well. If I had chance to do my experiments again, I’d want more time to make it better, add
more professional shots and, when it came to my audio process, I’d produce better sound effects on my Sean
Of The Dead experiment, I enjoyed making this experiment and producing the sound effects for it, I think if I
was given more time I could make the sound effects look more professional.
 The tools I used in my editing process
were Premiere Pro, after I had completed
the filming process, I then imported my
footage in to Premiere and began to use
different tool to edit my footage, I used the
razor tool to cut any unwanted footage I
didn’t need, I then imported any music or
sound effects that I thought were
impropriate. After I had finished my editing
process I exported my footage and audio,
then I uploaded it all as a video to Youtube,
then put it in my blogger.
 , I will also take away the different sound effects and music I have used, to use in my product if
I feel its appropriate. If I had been given more time to produce my experiments, I would have
spent more time on making my sound effects more professional, because on the day I went to
recoded my sound effects, I needed to go outside and get some sound of footsteps, this
become quite an issue as the weather wasn’t great, it was very windy and made the sound
effects sound poor.
 After filming and completing my filming process, I started my Audio
process, to do this I needed to create all the sound effects needed
for my two experiments. This began with being assigned in to
groups, I then got given a voice recorder, went to different locations
around college with a list of sounds. Once I had got all of the
sounds I needed, I then imported all of the sounds on to Premiere
Pro, I then began to cut and edit my audio, importing any music I
needed. Once I had finished my audio editing, I uploaded my
finished experiments to Youtube then posted the videos on Blogger.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
The different elements that will take any from my experiments, then use in my final product are I will use the same
editing approach to my audio. I will also take away the different sound effects and music I have used, to use in my
product if I feel its appropriate. If I had been given more time to produce my experiments, I would have spent more
time on making my sound effects more professional, because on the day I went to recoded my sound effects, I needed
to go outside and get some sound of footsteps, this become quite an issue as the weather wasn’t great, it was very
windy and made the sound effects sound poor. Overall I am pleased with the way my experiment has turned out.
 The constraints of production, I could experience during my production process could be that I
may not be able to access the equipment needed for my production, also I may not be able to
get the people needed for filming, this could then put me behind schedule. I could also not
have the correct software needed for the editing process of my production, I may not be able
to record the sound effects needed for my product because they may be unrealistic.

  • 11.  Looking at all of my secondary research, I have seen that my audience prefer an un-happy ending to a horror film, they also look for professional use of angle shots above anything else when watching a horror film, I have also seen that they enjoy watching the most popular horror films from the feedback I have been given, I have also seen that a large percentage of my audience are male, judging from the feedback I have been given. I have also seen that my audience’s favourite genre is Sci-Fi, above all of the others. I have also seen from the feedback I have been given is that my audience don’t tend to identify with a character from a horror film.
  • 12.  Having looked at British Board Of Classification (BBFC) I have chosen to certificate my film a 12A, I have chosen this because I feel as if this is most suitable age range, having looked at all of the content I wish to put in my film, some scenes in my film my film

  • 14.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fDzdDfviLI  I have chosen this existing short film, because its relatable to the genre I want to base my on product on. This existing product uses good use of angels, sound effects and uses a professional use of acting, there are many different techniques I would like to take form this film to, inspire me for when I come to produce my own product. After watching this short film, there are many elements that I like, the angles used, the sound effects also, they are very realistic, and life like, I really feel as if they bring the film to life almost, and it really keeps the viewer on the edge of there seat. The special effects also used in this film play a big part in bring the storyline and the whole film in general to life. When I come to produce my product I will take away this films use of realistic sound effects and use it to inspire me when I come to produce my own.
  • 15.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fje6_ou5RY  I have chosen this existing short film because, I feel as if some of the elements used in the film will inspire me when I come to produce my own product. The elements that I like are the use of good, professional sound effects this film has, I also like the professional use of acting that you can clearly see when watching this film. Although this short film isn’t in the horror genre category, it still has a lot of different elements that will be useful to me. This film also has quite a dark feel to it, you can feel this when watching, and I think this is very much expressed in certain scenes, for example when the woman opens up the closest, the music that’s played is designed to make the viewer feel on edge and make you feel something bad is going to happen, you feel as if something, or someone may jump out. Other element I will get inspiration from is the music used in this film, and how it has the power to make the viwer feel many different emotions.
  • 16.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_rB01TXWjI  I have chosen this existing short film, because I feel as if this has some great professional elements that I think will inspire me when I come to produce my product, the elements that I like from this existing product is its professional use of sound effects and its use of professional acting, I also like the way this film starts, it makes the viewer think that nothing bad is going to happen, then suddenly you hear noise. The acting in this film is exactly done and it really brings the film to life, and makes the viewer feel as if they can connect with the actor because they in a way will be feeling the same. I also like the use off different angles that are used within this film, throughout you are left on a cliff-hanger until the end, the angles make sure that not everything is given away during the film, and this ultimately keeps the viewer wondering “What’s going to happen?”.
  • 18.  The tools I used during my filming process were, Premiere Pro, I used this after I had filmed all of my footage, before I had started my filming, I had to make sure I knew what I was going to base my experiment on, to do this I had to plan a storyline I also completed an Initial Plans, on this a produced a mood board and to different mind maps. Before I started my filming we were placed in to groups, everyone in the group had a certain role they would play in the filming process.
  • 19.  What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?  After producing my experiments, and having done the filming process the elements I will take away from my experiments are the different types of shots and angles I have created while filming. I think these shots and angles would make my final product look very professional when I come to produce it. Another element I would take away from my experiments are parts of the storyline I used, using parts of them in my final product would go really well. If I had chance to do my experiments again, I’d want more time to make it better, add more professional shots and, when it came to my audio process, I’d produce better sound effects on my Sean Of The Dead experiment, I enjoyed making this experiment and producing the sound effects for it, I think if I was given more time I could make the sound effects look more professional.
  • 20.  The tools I used in my editing process were Premiere Pro, after I had completed the filming process, I then imported my footage in to Premiere and began to use different tool to edit my footage, I used the razor tool to cut any unwanted footage I didn’t need, I then imported any music or sound effects that I thought were impropriate. After I had finished my editing process I exported my footage and audio, then I uploaded it all as a video to Youtube, then put it in my blogger.
  • 21.  , I will also take away the different sound effects and music I have used, to use in my product if I feel its appropriate. If I had been given more time to produce my experiments, I would have spent more time on making my sound effects more professional, because on the day I went to recoded my sound effects, I needed to go outside and get some sound of footsteps, this become quite an issue as the weather wasn’t great, it was very windy and made the sound effects sound poor.
  • 22.  After filming and completing my filming process, I started my Audio process, to do this I needed to create all the sound effects needed for my two experiments. This began with being assigned in to groups, I then got given a voice recorder, went to different locations around college with a list of sounds. Once I had got all of the sounds I needed, I then imported all of the sounds on to Premiere Pro, I then began to cut and edit my audio, importing any music I needed. Once I had finished my audio editing, I uploaded my finished experiments to Youtube then posted the videos on Blogger.
  • 23.  What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product? The different elements that will take any from my experiments, then use in my final product are I will use the same editing approach to my audio. I will also take away the different sound effects and music I have used, to use in my product if I feel its appropriate. Overall I am pleased with the way my experiment has turned out.
  • 24.  The constraints of production, I could experience during my production process could be that I may not be able to access the equipment needed for my production, also I may not be able to get the people needed for filming, this could then put me behind schedule. I could also not have the correct software needed for the editing process of my production, I may not be able to record the sound effects needed for my product because they may be unrealistic.
